- 0:00Can you use eight pieces to form a
- 0:02square? This is a puzzle from 1860. As
- 0:05you can see, the puzzle has eight
- 0:07uniquely shaped pieces, each of which
- 0:09can be placed in different positions. It
- 0:12can be placed like this. It can also be
- 0:15placed like this with no clues telling
- 0:17us where it should be placed. These
- 0:19pieces have hundreds of misaligned
- 0:21arrangements. But the puzzle has only
- 0:24one correct solution. You must find the
- 0:27exact position of each piece which will
- 0:29be very difficult. If even one piece is
- 0:31placed incorrectly, the square formed
- 0:34will be incomplete. So what is the
- 0:36solution? All you have to do is first
- 0:39combine these two pieces together. Then
- 0:42place the third piece here. Place the
- 0:44fourth piece here. Then place another
- 0:46piece here. Now five parts are
- 0:49assembled. Then place this piece in the
- 0:51corner. Place the other piece at the
- 0:53top. Finally, place the last piece here.
- 0:56And we get a perfect square.
