Can you Edit a Full 3D Documentary on a Flight? — Transcript

- 0:00That's me, distracted, postponing the
- 0:02one edit that's been on my to-do list
- 0:04for days. And the deadline? Well,
- 0:06tomorrow. Which is kind of a problem
- 0:09because tomorrow I'm also flying to
- 0:11Barcelona. So, that leaves me with
- 0:13exactly 3 hours in the plane.
- 0:18Now, you might wonder what edit is worth
- 0:22all this stress. So, I host an editing
- 0:24challenge every single month and every
- 0:26month I'm always a little bit jealous of
- 0:29the people that participate. So, this
- 0:31time I'm going to join my own challenge
- 0:33under a fake name. And my flight boards
- 0:36in half an hour. I can still download
- 0:37some footage because there's no Wi-Fi.
- 0:39Why did I do this again? I don't know.
- 0:41All right, I really need to go to the
- 0:42gate, but I downloaded a few models, so
- 0:45I hope they're enough.
- 0:47Just need to go with this. Here's the
- 0:49real problem. Members have watched me
- 0:51edit for years. They know my style, my
- 0:53transitions, my pacing. So, if I use my
- 0:55own style, I'm cooked. So, not only do I
- 0:58have to win, I have to win while editing
- 1:00like a complete stranger. And I'll be
- 1:02honest with you, I need to win this
- 1:04because win or lose, I'm telling the
- 1:06community it was me. And if the guy who
- 1:08runs the challenge loses his own
- 1:10challenge, it looks kind of stupid,
- 1:12right? Let's board the plane. Once I sat
- 1:14my ass down in the plane, I directly
- 1:16went to work. 5 minutes in and I hear
- 1:18this.
- 1:19>> Good afternoon, dear passengers. I have
- 1:20a very good morning from flight 831. We
- 1:22have to wait
- 1:23about
- 1:2445 minutes before we get started again.
- 1:26>> Normally I would absolutely hate hearing
- 1:28that there is a delay, but this is the
- 1:31first and probably the last time I
- 1:32actually enjoyed the sweet words of 40
- 1:35extra minutes in the plane. But then,
- 1:37plot twist, they found a spot for us to
- 1:40still go. So, I had to close my laptop
- 1:42for the takeoff. A much-needed hydration
- 1:45break and we're off again, literally. I
- 1:48was struggling a lot. Not only my
- 1:50trackpad, but also my keyboard. You see,
- 1:53I've got a lot of shortcuts set up on my
- 1:55numpad, which this keyboard doesn't have
- 1:58and I completely forgot about that. And
- 2:00this editing challenge was extra
- 2:02difficult for a specific reason because
- 2:04it was a fern 3D documentary style
- 2:06editing challenge. Let's see what I
- 2:08think of this while being in a tiny ass
- 2:10airplane toilet. All right, I'm making
- 2:12progress, but
- 2:14I don't think I'm going to make it. Or
- 2:16maybe at least two scenes, that would be
- 2:18amazing. The thing I'm struggling with
- 2:20the most now is that is in Blender.
- 2:23Normal editing challenges are in After
- 2:25Effects or Premiere Pro,
- 2:27but this one is in Blender and I'm
- 2:28struggling and my laptop is too.
- 2:31>> I was flying. Get it? Flying. But then a
- 2:35crash and another and another one. But I
- 2:37finished the first scene and quickly
- 2:39went on to the next one until a much
- 2:42needed breakfast break came by.
- 2:51>> I'm not the best at Blender, but
- 2:53I hope that my story telling in my city
- 2:56of dark people will help me with this to
- 2:58at least make the scene look nice.
- 3:00>> I added some animation to the camera,
- 3:02moved the models around, I changed the
- 3:04materials and set up the render
- 3:06settings.
- 3:07>> For landing. For landing and I got this
- 3:10scene and this other scene already done.
- 3:12>> The only thing that was left was the
- 3:13render itself, which I'll do when I
- 3:15land. Is that unfair? I don't know. I'm
- 3:17setting the rules anyway. By this time,
- 3:19I didn't really know if this was good
- 3:21enough. I didn't know who was going to
- 3:22participate. I of course also didn't
- 3:24know what they were going to come with
- 3:26and a lot of members in the community
- 3:28are getting so good. I finally felt what
- 3:30others feel when they're participating
- 3:32in this editing challenge. A mix of fear
- 3:35and excitement. And then we landed.
- 3:42>> Just got off the plane and I think I
- 3:45finished two scenes. I need to render
- 3:47them and look at them, which should be
- 3:48enough to participate in the editing
- 3:51challenge.
- 3:51>> Plot twist, Ronald is me.
- 3:52>> I participated under Ronald because I
- 3:54was like uh why not?
- 3:56No way. No way. Inception part two.
- 4:00So there was no risk of losing. No, I'm
- 4:02sorry Axel. Kept you on on edge the
- 4:05whole time. If you want to see the end
- 4:07result, click in the top right. That
- 4:08will lead to the editing challenge.
- 4:10Don't forget to subscribe and I'll see
- 4:12you in the next one. Bye-bye.
