- 0:11more now on the news that Facebook
- 0:13failed to protect the information of
- 0:15millions of its users a former Cambridge
- 0:18analytic research director sounded the
- 0:21alarm on the harvesting of information
- 0:23from millions of Facebook users without
- 0:25their permission
- 0:26he spoke with our Charlie d'Agata in
- 0:29London about who he thinks is to blame I
- 0:32take a share of responsibility in this
- 0:34because I was a research director and
- 0:37you know I I worked on this program so
- 0:39I'm gonna start by saying I'm taking
- 0:41responsibility I'm owning up this is why
- 0:44I'm talking to you in terms of other you
- 0:49know who else needs to take
- 0:51responsibility cambridge analytically it
- 0:54funded the program it approved the
- 0:55program and you know it it you know as
- 0:59an entity it create this is this is what
- 1:01ultimately became the foundation of what
- 1:03cambridge analytic is so of course
- 1:06cambridge analytic had needs to take
- 1:08responsibility for this you know
- 1:10facebook i I last week offered to help
- 1:14Facebook and work with Facebook and
- 1:16their lawyers confirmed that they wanted
- 1:18to work in a collaborative manner when
- 1:21all of this came out I then got banned
- 1:24you know they they decided that actually
- 1:27the whistleblower is the person that
- 1:28they want to apparently go after and
- 1:30they you know deleted my existence off
- 1:33of Facebook and Instagram because
- 1:36apparently you know me going on
- 1:38Instagram and looking at curated
- 1:39pictures of avocado toast is somehow a
- 1:42threat to their their user community but
- 1:46yeah they they shut you down they shut
- 1:49me down and this was after I had spoken
- 1:52and my lawyers had spoken with them and
- 1:54we agreed that we were going to
- 1:56collaborate on this issue you know in in
- 1:59in in in a cooperative manner I am NOT
- 2:03out to attack Facebook I think Facebook
- 2:05still brings a lot of value you know not
- 2:08just to social networks but also to the
- 2:10democratic process as a platform that we
- 2:11can engage and talk about
- 2:13there's obviously you know a lot of
- 2:15issues that need to be discussed and
- 2:17thought through in terms of you know its
- 2:19its role in you know the information
- 2:22battle space that we that we see you
- 2:25know emerging now in in modern politics
