  1. 0:00Hello after like 58,000 years. The
  2. 0:03truth is that I've recorded a lot of
  3. 0:05videos. I have too many videos in stock
  4. 0:07to show you. The problem is that I want
  5. 0:09to do everything. I mean, I have a
  6. 0:11jewelry brand, I want to learn more
  7. 0:13about jewelry, I want to have a social
  8. 0:15life. Hello, how are you? Welcome to my
  9. 0:27channel, welcome to Beca Joyería. For
  10. 0:29those who are new, here we talk about
  11. 0:31jewelry, we make jewelry and everything
  12. 0:33that has to do with jewelry and costume
  13. 0:35jewelry. Today I wanted to show you
  14. 0:38something new, something that has also
  15. 0:39been new to me. I've already tried it
  16. 0:42out and that's why I think I'm ready to
  17. 0:44show you what gold plating is, or
  18. 0:46rather gold plating, because in this
  19. 0:48case we are going to plate it. I know
  20. 0:51that for many it has been like what the
  21. 0:54difference is, how it's done, like the
  22. 0:56general process in the jewelry world,
  23. 0:58in the world of costume jewelry, is not
  24. 1:00very well explained and I understand
  25. 1:02that. I mean, it's also been very
  26. 1:05confusing for me, but, uh, it's
  27. 1:08something that has helped me a lot by
  28. 1:10doing it, both to have, uh, more pieces
  29. 1:13in my jewelry line, and also for me to
  30. 1:16be able to explain to, uh, customers
  31. 1:19and to be able to explain, uh, how long
  32. 1:22it lasts; because, obviously, it's not
  33. 1:25solid gold as such, but it is a gold
  34. 1:27bath. Uh, also how it's done. Also, if
  35. 1:31you want to make this investment in
  36. 1:33what I'm going to show you, which are
  37. 1:35the liquids and the machine, uh, well,
  38. 1:37it's quite an investment and it's
  39. 1:39something that's worth it. And if you
  40. 1:41simply want to watch this video to
  41. 1:43learn more or to be able to explain it
  42. 1:45in your jewelry store or simply because
  43. 1:47you want to learn in the future, that's
  44. 1:49great. I think we'll go this way and
  45. 1:51let's get started. And well, I hope
  46. 1:53it's useful to you. Also, if you've
  47. 1:56done it and done it differently because
  48. 1:59I know there are other ways to do it,
  49. 2:01let me know. I hope to answer all your
  50. 2:03messages. I know I haven't answered you
  51. 2:06lately, precisely because of what I'm
  52. 2:07telling you, I've been overwhelmed with
  53. 2:09work and I'm not getting it done, but I
  54. 2:11hope someone helps me very soon and,
  55. 2:13well, someone helps me with my social
  56. 2:15networks and editing, because social
  57. 2:17networks are also an issue. But anyway,
  58. 2:19let's get to this section. I haven't
  59. 2:22shown you the table yet because it's
  60. 2:24very low, but I wanted to quickly
  61. 2:25explain. I sent all these liquids to be
  62. 2:27formulated by a chemical engineer. I'd
  63. 2:30be happy to do it if you're from, well,
  64. 2:33Mexico or Mexico City, he supplies the
  65. 2:35entire country. Hey, I can give you the
  66. 2:38contact information, send me a DM on my
  67. 2:40Instagram, on social networks and I'll
  68. 2:41answer faster, especially on Instagram.
  69. 2:44And if you're outside of Mexico, I
  70. 2:46honestly don't know how to tell you,
  71. 2:48but I would say that you should look
  72. 2:50for someone who is specifically
  73. 2:52dedicated to formulating for gold
  74. 2:54plating, a chemical engineer, someone
  75. 2:56who has worked in the jewelry industry
  76. 2:58and who can do it for you. It's a big
  77. 3:00investment, really, but it's 1000%worth
  78. 3:03it. I'm in front of a window because
  79. 3:05it's good to have some air. I don't
  80. 3:08know, this has certain odors, not very
  81. 3:10strong, but just in case, it's good to
  82. 3:13have some ventilation. And now, let's
  83. 3:16get to work. I'm going to show you now,
  84. 3:18so come over here. I'll show you our
  85. 3:20beautiful work table. Now I'll explain
  86. 3:22the liquids, but first of all, we're
  87. 3:24going to see the power source. It turns
  88. 3:26on from the back and you can see the
  89. 3:28bowls from above. This is the positive
  90. 3:30current output, which is the red one,
  91. 3:32and the negative current output, which
  92. 3:34is the black one. These stainless steel
  93. 3:37plates are called anodes. They provide
  94. 3:40the positive current source to the
  95. 3:42solution. In this case, we're going to
  96. 3:44put it in the degreaser. We'll stir it
  97. 3:45well so the solution doesn't stagnate.
  98. 3:47This is the nickel anode, which is made
  99. 3:50of titanium and has a little nickel
  100. 3:52inside, so we're using filter paper.
  101. 3:55Here I'm showing you that I've written
  102. 3:57down how the voltage and time are going
  103. 3:59to work. This is a fish tank heater,
  104. 4:02since we need our nickel a little warm.
  105. 4:05And here I am touching it to see if it
  106. 4:07is ready. The gold solution. The gold
  107. 4:09solution is formulated so that with
  108. 4:11different voltages we can give it tones
  109. 4:13of 24, 18 and 14 carats. Here I show
  110. 4:16you that I also wrote it down and it
  111. 4:18also needs its stainless steel anode. I
  112. 4:20also move it a little so that it does
  113. 4:22not stagnate. I tell you that for each
  114. 4:24of the formulations we need two rinses.
  115. 4:27It would be degreasing, water, water
  116. 4:29which is potable water, acid. After the
  117. 4:32acid we leave it there for a minute and
  118. 4:34it would also be water, water and then
  119. 4:37we take it to the nickel. The nickel,
  120. 4:40uh, as I had already told you, needs to
  121. 4:43be hot, the water or the rinse and then
  122. 4:46we take it to the gold. Uh, it really
  123. 4:50is very simple, you will see it now and
  124. 4:52its rinses finally. We can also put
  125. 4:54lacquer on it so that the plating lasts
  126. 4:56longer. This depends on each person. So
  127. 4:59I'll show you the pieces that we're
  128. 5:00going to plate or gild. These earrings
  129. 5:02that I was commissioned to make, this
  130. 5:03little pendant, and this chain that is
  131. 5:05already gilded, but we're going to
  132. 5:06improve it. And I'll tell you that
  133. 5:08we're going to use copper. This already
  134. 5:10looks gilded because we've already used
  135. 5:12it, but it's copper. This copper is
  136. 5:14going to be used for the negative
  137. 5:16cathode and the anode is the positive.
  138. 5:19These never touch each other, that is,
  139. 5:21the anode or the cathode. And what else
  140. 5:24? Uh, I used insulating tape and made
  141. 5:26it like an octopus-style hook. Now
  142. 5:29you'll see what I'm showing you this
  143. 5:30for. It's literally a normal electrical
  144. 5:33wire and I made it like an octopus so
  145. 5:36that the pieces can be easily grabbed,
  146. 5:38just as you can see. And this is what
  147. 5:42we're going to connect to the black
  148. 5:44cable, which is the negative. And I
  149. 5:47remind you that this should not touch
  150. 5:50the anodes. So, we're going to
  151. 5:52introduce this to the solutions. Now,
  152. 5:54let's get started. Let's put the
  153. 5:56voltage on the six. Let's introduce it
  154. 5:58to the degreaser. Why degrease first?
  155. 6:01We want to clean the piece really well
  156. 6:03of any imperfections or grease that it
  157. 6:06has. We put our positive on the anodes,
  158. 6:09on either one, which is the red one,
  159. 6:11and we put the negative, which is the
  160. 6:14black one, on our copper wire, where
  161. 6:17our pieces are. This degreaser is a
  162. 6:20soapy solution for metals, so it will
  163. 6:23clean our pieces really well. They are
  164. 6:25already quite polished, but for
  165. 6:27anything that needs cleaning here, we
  166. 6:29already introduce it and now what I
  167. 6:31love to see the most is going to begin.
  168. 6:34We can see a slight bubbling that is
  169. 6:36caused by the electric current that
  170. 6:38passes from the anode to the piece of
  171. 6:40jewelry. This is an alkaline solution
  172. 6:42that cleans chemically. We shake the
  173. 6:45pieces well and introduce them to the
  174. 6:47rinse. We use two rinses, which are
  175. 6:50really drinking water, bottled water so
  176. 6:53that it is super clean and there are no
  177. 6:55residues left. I forgot to tell you
  178. 6:58that this should be in the degreasing
  179. 7:00process for 1 to 2 minutes. After
  180. 7:03degreasing, it goes into the rinse
  181. 7:05cycle, rinses, and then we leave it in
  182. 7:07the acid for one minute. This is a 10%
  183. 7:09sulfuric acid solution. And once it's
  184. 7:13been there for a minute, we rinse it
  185. 7:15twice again to make it super clean. The
  186. 7:18next step is nickel plating. We have to
  187. 7:21lower the voltage to about 2.5 or 3
  188. 7:25depending on how much we want it to
  189. 7:27shine, well, how many pieces we have
  190. 7:28and how much we want it to shine. I'm
  191. 7:30going to put 2.5 on it to see how it
  192. 7:32looks. And we leave it there for 1 to 2
  193. 7:37minutes. Remember that the anode is the
  194. 7:41one that carries the positive and the
  195. 7:43cathode is the negative. This means red
  196. 7:46is positive and black is negative. And
  197. 7:48we move it around a lot so that it
  198. 7:51adheres well. Nickel plating is not
  199. 7:54mandatory, but it penetrates much more
  200. 7:56into the pieces. I recommend it for
  201. 7:58brass pieces. Well, now we rinse it
  202. 8:02again. As you can see, the nickel water
  203. 8:04is green, so we rinse it again. I like
  204. 8:07to put it back in the degreaser, now at
  205. 8:09the voltage that was for the nickel.
  206. 8:12Just about 30 seconds so that it cleans
  207. 8:14any nickel residue that it had. And
  208. 8:17after its 30 seconds I rinse it, I
  209. 8:19rinse it and I have to put it back in
  210. 8:22the acid for a minute. And after that,
  211. 8:24now we are going to give it the gold
  212. 8:26bath, well, the gold plate. For the
  213. 8:29gilding part, now the voltage depends a
  214. 8:32lot on the color tone. I realized that
  215. 8:35at 2.35, 2.45 voltage it gives me a
  216. 8:38fairly light tone that is what I like
  217. 8:41for my pieces. It's up to each person
  218. 8:43to decide. And remember that again for
  219. 8:46the anode we put the positive and for
  220. 8:48the cathode the negative, which is red
  221. 8:51positive, black negative. So we rinse
  222. 8:54the acid and now we put the pieces. You
  223. 8:58can leave it for 2 or 3 minutes, and
  224. 9:00depending on the number of minutes you
  225. 9:02leave it, the microns of gold it will
  226. 9:04absorb. We move the pieces so that it
  227. 9:07absorbs well and remember that the
  228. 9:09cathode and the anode should not touch
  229. 9:11each other because if not, it will go
  230. 9:13to your power source. And here you can
  231. 9:15see how it bubbles again. I love this
  232. 9:18part. And you know what I love the most
  233. 9:19, that the gold is already starting to
  234. 9:21appear. I leave the pieces for a minute
  235. 9:24and a half, 2 minutes, depending on how
  236. 9:26much gold you want to add, literally.
  237. 9:29But obviously, the longer you leave it,
  238. 9:31the more gold you will add, so the more
  239. 9:33expensive your piece will be. We rinse
  240. 9:35it well in water number one and water
  241. 9:37number two. The gold water is very
  242. 9:40specific, do not mix it with anything
  243. 9:42because it is gold, so you will recycle
  244. 9:45it. And finally, we go to the drying
  245. 9:48part. You can do it with a dryer, not
  246. 9:51too hot, or we can dry it with sawdust
  247. 9:53if you have it. We leave it there.
  248. 9:56Sorry the picture isn't so pretty
  249. 9:58because it was already very dark, but
  250. 10:00here you can see how they are already
  251. 10:02golden and beautiful, ready to ship.
  252. 10:04Let's go with a mini summary of
  253. 10:06everything to make the following pieces
  254. 10:08. Remember, for degreasing, set the
  255. 10:11voltage to six, the anode to red and
  256. 10:14the cathode to black. We degrease the
  257. 10:17pieces for one or two minutes, put them
  258. 10:20in water number one and in water number
  259. 10:22two and leave them in the acid for one
  260. 10:25minute. While it's in the acid, we
  261. 10:27change the voltage for the nickel.
  262. 10:29We're going to put it at 2.5 arox and
  263. 10:32put the red back on the anode, that is,
  264. 10:35the positive, and the black, the
  265. 10:38negative, on the cathode. We leave it
  266. 10:40for a minute and a half, two, depending
  267. 10:42on how many pieces there are. And water
  268. 10:44number one for nickel and water number
  269. 10:47two for nickel. As I mentioned, I like
  270. 10:51to degrease it again for just 30
  271. 10:53seconds and with a voltage of just 2.5
  272. 10:56so that there is no nickel residue.
  273. 11:00After degreasing, we rinse it again
  274. 11:02with water number one, water number two
  275. 11:04. And I leave it in the acid for
  276. 11:07another minute. Now, it's ready to
  277. 11:10plate. You'll see that the more you do
  278. 11:12this process, the more you realize that
  279. 11:14it's super easy. It's simply voltage
  280. 11:17and time. Once it's in the acid, we
  281. 11:22rinse it again once, twice and change
  282. 11:26the voltage to 2.35, 2.40, 45 for gold.
  283. 11:32Remember that red is positive on the
  284. 11:34anode and black is negative on the
  285. 11:36cathode. We can see how the piece is
  286. 11:39starting to turn gold. We leave it for
  287. 11:41a minute and a half or two and observe.
  288. 11:44It looks beautiful. We're done. We
  289. 11:47rinse it and dry it. Very good. Well,
  290. 11:51we're done. Basically, all I needed was
  291. 11:54the lacquer, which was just waiting for
  292. 11:57the piece to dry well. We put it in for
  293. 12:00a minute or two and then take it out
  294. 12:02with tweezers, let it dry. Don't touch
  295. 12:05it too much so that it doesn't leave
  296. 12:06marks from your finger. And that's it.
  297. 12:08And well, it's a super nice, super easy
  298. 12:11process. I really love it. I feel like
  299. 12:14it gives a lot of value to the silver
  300. 12:16plating by giving it a gold bath and I
  301. 12:18don't know, I hope it's been useful to
  302. 12:20you. If you want more videos like this,
  303. 12:22let me know. If you want more videos
  304. 12:24like this about the soldering part,
  305. 12:26there's one coming soon about fretwork,
  306. 12:29so wait for more videos and those who
  307. 12:31comment, I really read all your
  308. 12:33messages. Sometimes I just haven't
  309. 12:35taken the time to answer all of them,
  310. 12:37but I want to answer them. Cover
  311. 12:38everything very well, turn everything
  312. 12:40off and just don't let any dust fall
  313. 12:43into the liquids, especially the gold
  314. 12:45one. And I think that's it. See you
  315. 12:48very soon. Bye.
