- 0:00Hello, welcome back to the channel,
- 0:02everyone. Can you guess where I am?
- 0:04I’ll just tell you: I’m in Can Tho.
- 0:07I’ve been down here visiting for
- 0:09several dozen days now. During this
- 0:14time, I’ve been running back and
- 0:16forth, exploring the city, everyone.
- 0:21It’s been a very new experience for
- 0:23me. And there is one thing that made me
- 0:28have to speak up and film this video
- 0:30today: my god, why are the roads in Can
- 0:32Tho so bad and terrible? Especially the
- 0:38part where I enter the city, coming
- 0:40from my hometown to Can Tho along the
- 0:42road called National Route 91B. Just
- 0:48about ten kilometers before reaching
- 0:49the city, I already see digging
- 0:51everywhere, guys. Yeah, digging, like
- 0:54excavators and backhoes, they’re just
- 0:56digging it all up. Since I’ve been
- 1:01traveling from my home to Can Tho from
- 1:02June until now, I’ve gone back and
- 1:04forth many times, but I notice they
- 1:06just dig it up and leave it there, they
- 1:07don’t fill it back in. And all the
- 1:13way into the city center, at the
- 1:14intersection between 3 Thang 2 Street
- 1:16and Nguyen Van Linh Street, if you’re
- 1:18coming from any direction and want to
- 1:20get to the center, you’re definitely
- 1:21going to have to pass through that spot
- 1:23. That area is basically the face of
- 1:27the city, everyone. But guys, I really
- 1:31don't understand why they keep digging
- 1:33things up in Can Tho and then just
- 1:34leave them there without finishing.
- 1:39They bring in excavators, backhoes,
- 1:41pipes, and all sorts of construction
- 1:43materials, just piling them up
- 1:45everywhere. That intersection has so
- 1:50many large stores, like Mobile World or
- 1:52electronics shops, it’s a very major
- 1:55intersection. And they just dig it up
- 2:00and leave it exactly like that. Just
- 2:06the other day, I was online checking
- 2:07out reviews around Can Tho, and I
- 2:09happened to stumble upon a post from a
- 2:11girl who said that last year, as a
- 2:13freshman entering Can Tho University,
- 2:15she was new to the city, but now that
- 2:16she’s in her second year, that
- 2:18construction site is still exactly the
- 2:20same, nothing has changed; they just
- 2:22dug it up and left it sitting there
- 2:24like that. And it's not just that one
- 2:29single intersection of 3/2 Street and
- 2:31Nguyen Van Linh Street, either. Pretty
- 2:34much everywhere I go throughout Can Tho
- 2:36city, I constantly see this situation
- 2:38where they dig things up and leave them
- 2:40be, or sometimes they dig them up to
- 2:42install sidewalk railings. They just
- 2:45pile up these bulky, uneven concrete
- 2:47blocks everywhere. As for the inside,
- 2:49they haven't laid any bricks, they
- 2:51haven't poured any cement, they haven't
- 2:52done anything at all; they just leave
- 2:54it in a mess like that. And I've
- 2:56noticed so many streets are just like
- 2:58that, you guys. I remember back in high
- 3:00school, around 2017 or 2018, I visited
- 3:02Can Tho, and this is the first time
- 3:04I've returned since then. That’s
- 3:06because I never really had any reason
- 3:08to come back to this city. But coming
- 3:14here today to visit my friend, I can
- 3:16see that Can Tho has improved in some
- 3:18ways, showing signs of modernization,
- 3:20with many famous brands arriving to
- 3:22develop the F&B scene, which seems to
- 3:24be building Can Tho into a very
- 3:26bustling place. However, personally,
- 3:32from the perspective of someone from
- 3:34Long Xuyen like me, I feel that Can Tho
- 3:36isn't any different from Long Xuyen.
- 3:38And Long Xuyen isn't really any
- 3:39different from Can Tho, either. Even
- 3:41though when people mention tourism in
- 3:43the Mekong Delta or think of the region
- 3:44, they immediately think of Can Tho.
- 3:46Because Can Tho is the big brother of
- 3:48the Mekong Delta, right? But when it
- 3:51comes to the roads and the overall
- 3:52aesthetics and such, I honestly think
- 3:54Long Xuyen is better, guys. Because
- 3:59when talking about the pace of street
- 4:01repairs and road construction, I find
- 4:03that if you compare the speed, Long
- 4:04Xuyen is faster. Of course, there are
- 4:09some things in Long Xuyen that might be
- 4:11slow, but they aren't as slow as in Can
- 4:13Tho. They just keep digging things up
- 4:15and leaving them there, and I’m left
- 4:17wondering who to even ask about it. I
- 4:20think Can Tho is a very beautiful place
- 4:22, but it’s only beautiful in certain
- 4:24sections. It's like it only has certain
- 4:28patches here and there; it’s not an
- 4:29entire area that’s beautiful.
- 4:32That’s just the way I perceive it.
- 4:35When you go a little bit away from the
- 4:37center, you’ll see the difference
- 4:38immediately. I’m not a local of Can
- 4:41Tho, so I’m just sharing my own
- 4:43personal perspectives and opinions
- 4:45about Can Tho province. If anyone finds
- 4:49that what I’ve said is a bit
- 4:50exaggerated or incorrect, please feel
- 4:52free to comment in a civilized way to
- 4:54offer suggestions or corrections. Now,
- 4:59the second thing I want to talk about
- 5:01in this video is the tourist area at
- 5:03Ninh Kieu Wharf, everyone. I remember
- 5:08back in June, when I returned to Can
- 5:09Tho for the first time in many years, I
- 5:11was in the very excited mood of a
- 5:13tourist. I mean, I was a tourist after
- 5:16all. I had a friend down here, so I
- 5:18asked them to take me to Ninh Kieu
- 5:20Wharf since it had been such a long
- 5:22time since I’d been back. They said
- 5:25something to me right away that really
- 5:27left an impression on me. They said "
- 5:29There's nothing at Ninh Kieu Wharf,"
- 5:31and I was like "What? When people think
- 5:34of Can Tho, they have to go to Ninh
- 5:36Kieu Wharf." I thought it would have
- 5:38been invested in for professional
- 5:40tourism or had something truly
- 5:41beautiful. But after so many years,
- 5:44when I returned to Ninh Kieu Wharf, I
- 5:46found it was exactly the same, everyone
- 5:48. There was no difference at all.
- 5:49That’s just my personal feeling. The
- 5:51way tourism is handled in Can Tho isn't
- 5:53very professional yet. It’s like
- 5:57it’s still too local, and there’s
- 5:59something about it that isn’t really
- 6:00smooth yet, everyone. Last night I went
- 6:04down to Ninh Kieu Wharf to hang out,
- 6:06and one thing really struck me: Why is
- 6:10it so dark, everyone? I went down there
- 6:13and was completely surprised. I think a
- 6:18city landmark like this should be
- 6:20carefully maintained and well-invested
- 6:22in, especially since I see many
- 6:23tourists from other regions and plenty
- 6:25of Western visitors here too. But when
- 6:32I went down to Ninh Kieu Wharf
- 6:34yesterday—it was Monday, the start of
- 6:36the week, so it was a bit quiet—but
- 6:38could we please have some lights? There
- 6:42were no lights, everyone; it was pitch
- 6:44black. Yet when I looked up, I saw so
- 6:47many light bulbs meant for illumination
- 6:49. The parks and the areas for walking
- 6:52toward the footbridge—I don’t know
- 6:53if they didn’t turn the lights on,
- 6:55forgot to, or if the wires were cut. It
- 6:58was completely dark. The only lights
- 7:01came from the cruise boats. Only the
- 7:04places where people were singing and
- 7:05eating had lights. But the entire
- 7:07square area leading up to the
- 7:09footbridge had no power at all. The
- 7:12only lights were on the footbridge, and
- 7:14those were just color-changing lights,
- 7:15not actual streetlights for people to
- 7:17walk by. Then I pulled into a parking
- 7:20spot at the foot of the bridge, looked
- 7:22up, and thought, "My goodness, why is
- 7:24it so dark?" It was as deserted as an
- 7:26abandoned temple; I couldn't believe it
- 7:28was a famous tourist spot. Standing
- 7:31there looking up at the footbridge at
- 7:33Ninh Kieu Wharf, I kept thinking back
- 7:35to the images of Nha Trang, everyone. I
- 7:40thought, "My goodness, why is Nha Trang
- 7:42able to manage tourism so smoothly and
- 7:44effectively?" From the food and dining
- 7:50services, the local shops, to the
- 7:52hotels, taxi services, and even walking
- 7:54along Tran Phu beach. Everything there
- 7:59is so smooth and absolutely perfect. I
- 8:05think if there's any place that others
- 8:07should follow in terms of how they
- 8:08handle tourism, I believe Nha Trang
- 8:10should be the leader in the tourism
- 8:11industry. I haven't been to Da Nang yet
- 8:15. I haven't been to Da Nang, so I
- 8:16cannot make a comparison. I've only
- 8:18been to Nha Trang. So I think if you
- 8:20compare Can Tho with Nha Trang, that's
- 8:22a really lopsided comparison, everyone.
- 8:25Very lopsided. And I think Can Tho
- 8:29needs to push for much more development
- 8:31. Even though it's known as the "big
- 8:34brother" of the Mekong Delta, I find
- 8:36it's no different from my hometown,
- 8:38Long Xuyen. It just has more large
- 8:42organizations and major offices, like
- 8:44VTV Can Tho or a bus station with more
- 8:46routes. And it has Can Tho airport,
- 8:51that's all. Besides those things, I
- 8:53think my hometown Long Xuyen probably
- 8:55doesn't lag behind Can Tho at all. But
- 9:00one thing I really want Can Tho to
- 9:01speed up and change immediately is the
- 9:03roads, everyone. Because when tourists
- 9:10from other places flock here, the first
- 9:12thing that hits their eyes are the
- 9:13roads and the urban landscape, which I
- 9:15don't want to say looks terrible. But
- 9:20when I experience driving on those
- 9:22roads, I find it very frustrating and
- 9:24annoying, everyone. So, one thing I
- 9:28currently see that Can Tho needs to
- 9:30address is the issue of road
- 9:32infrastructure. As for the people here,
- 9:37they are perfect, and I am a Westerner
- 9:39myself. So when someone from one part
- 9:42of the Mekong Delta moves to another,
- 9:43it's pretty much the same thing,
- 9:45everyone. I am very proud to be from
- 9:47the Mekong Delta. And I really like Can
- 9:49Tho. The second thing Can Tho needs to
- 9:51improve is the tourist area at Ninh
- 9:53Kieu Wharf, everyone. When I talk to
- 9:59foreigners, they say that when they
- 10:00want to travel to the Mekong Delta,
- 10:02either they go to My Tho, or they go to
- 10:04Ninh Kieu Wharf. Well, I haven’t been
- 10:10to My Tho, so I don’t know how they
- 10:12handle tourism there, but I think Can
- 10:14Tho should really promote Ninh Kieu
- 10:16Wharf more, everyone. Regarding the
- 10:24lighting, the aesthetics, the urban
- 10:25landscape, and the services, they
- 10:27really need to improve and do better
- 10:29marketing to help boost tourism in the
- 10:31Mekong Delta. Every time I ask my
- 10:38friends, "Hey, take me to Ninh Kieu
- 10:40Wharf for a walk," they just give me
- 10:42such a bored look. They even tell me, "
- 10:44What is there to do in Can Tho?" Even
- 10:48my aunt, when I invited her to go to
- 10:50Ninh Kieu Wharf the other day, she just
- 10:52said, "Why would I want to go down
- 10:53there with you? It's flooded." Do you
- 10:58guys know why? The high tide rises, the
- 11:00water comes up, and the whole area is
- 11:02flooded in the early morning; it
- 11:04doesn't fully recede until about 8:00,
- 11:069:00, or 10:00 AM. The roads are very
- 11:09wet, and when I happened to pass by
- 11:11around 9:00 or 10:00 the other day, I
- 11:13found it to be quite smelly. So, since
- 11:16it’s the rainy season now, I feel
- 11:18like there are fewer tourists around. I
- 11:23think it might be busier in other
- 11:25seasons, but if possible, I think Can
- 11:27Tho should invest more in the
- 11:28appearance of Ninh Kieu Wharf to
- 11:30attract more tourists, everyone. As a
- 11:35traveler and a visitor from afar, these
- 11:37are just my own observations and
- 11:39reviews. Can Tho is a very dynamic and
- 11:43youthful city. So many people come here
- 11:45to study at Can Tho University, the
- 11:47University of Medicine and Pharmacy,
- 11:48Tay Do University, and Nam Can Tho
- 11:50University. That’s why whenever I go
- 11:51out on the streets, I see nothing but
- 11:53students everywhere. It’s a very
- 11:56dynamic, young city with that distinct
- 11:58Western Vietnamese charm, and I really
- 12:01love it. Everything I’ve mentioned in
- 12:07today’s video reflects my personal
- 12:09opinion, the perspective of a visitor
- 12:10who has lived here for about a month,
- 12:12so I’m sharing these insights. If
- 12:18there is anything I said that was wrong
- 12:20, incomplete, or lacking, I invite
- 12:21everyone, especially the people of Can
- 12:24Tho, to please leave a civilized
- 12:25comment, share your feedback, and guide
- 12:27me. Please don't bash me; I’d really
- 12:30appreciate your kindness. Anyway, thank
- 12:32you all for watching the video.
