- 0:00What’s it like to be chased by a
- 0:01twisted-mouthed flatfish? This coconut
- 0:07octopus is in danger. Despite having
- 0:09some of the highest intelligence in the
- 0:11animal kingdom, it lacks the top-tier
- 0:12camouflage skills of other octopuses.
- 0:14Using just these tentacles to get away
- 0:16definitely won't work. The pursuer
- 0:18behind it is an ocean master of
- 0:20disguise. A flatfish. Although the
- 0:23flatfish knows it can’t swallow the
- 0:25whole octopus, snagging a tentacle for
- 0:27breakfast would be a treat. Even though
- 0:30an octopus can regrow lost tentacles,
- 0:32with nine brains, it’s not about to
- 0:34let the flatfish succeed. Its eyes dart
- 0:38around, frantically searching for
- 0:40anything nearby to use. Huh?
- 0:42>> There’s a coconut shell ahead. It
- 0:55quickly dives in, only to realize this
- 0:57shell is just a half, offering no real
- 0:59protection. The octopus keeps scanning
- 1:06and spots a large clam shell nearby. It
- 1:09dives right in, using hundreds of
- 1:11suckers to latch on and snap the two
- 1:13halves shut, creating an ironclad
- 1:15shield. The frustrated pursuer circles
- 1:18around, checking for any gap, but is
- 1:20left helpless. The shell is locked
- 1:22tight from the inside. At this point,
- 1:24the fish can only swim away in a grumpy
- 1:26, lopsided rage. Its dream of fresh
- 1:29octopus sushi for breakfast has just
- 1:31gone up in smoke.
