- 0:00mmm yeah there were some official
- 0:04directions from headquarters that we
- 0:07should take certain things and and it
- 0:11ended up that there was a medallion for
- 0:15Yuri Gagarin and for car Komarov had
- 0:21been killed in a space accident and
- 0:24there was a patch from the Apollo 1 crew
- 0:29it wasn't a battalion and then there was
- 0:32a silicon disk and that was quite
- 0:37special and I think it's been pretty
- 0:41well publicized it had itched into it
- 0:44real fine messages from 75 leaders
- 0:49around the world and of course they had
- 0:53lists of what they said but you couldn't
- 0:56read it because it was edge since and so
- 0:59fine and that was there and I felt that
- 1:03there was something else they could have
- 1:07gone in there wasn't scheduled because I
- 1:11thought the symbolic thing about our
- 1:14patch it sure it was the eagle lunar
- 1:18surface and Earth's in the background
- 1:20but the olive branch was when it was
- 1:23quite significant so I went to a local
- 1:25jeweler and had picked out little pins
- 1:31it looked like olive branches so I got
- 1:34four of them one for each of the crew
- 1:37and their wives and they won that we
- 1:41would leave on the moon so that was also
- 1:43put in there so there were I guess four
- 1:47four things and I was given the great
- 1:51honor of doing that well instead of
- 1:55carrying them in a pocket sort of loose
- 1:57I said well let's put them in a little
- 2:00pouch so then I can just leave that it
- 2:07it didn't appear as though a real
- 2:12significant ceremony ought to be set
- 2:15aside for for leaving those on the moon
- 2:18on the surface so there was a pocket in
- 2:22the spacesuit up here sometimes you put
- 2:26sunglasses or pencils and so I put that
- 2:29pouch up there because I didn't have
- 2:32other pockets that were obvious so we
- 2:37went through all our activities and I
- 2:39start going up the ladder and you know
- 2:44what when we were talking back and forth
- 2:46everybody heard what we were saying and
- 2:50so Neil I'm not sure what what the word
- 2:57was appropriately he didn't say hey
- 3:01busted you what are you gonna do about
- 3:04that he said did you forget something
- 3:08and I thought oh yeah okay so I reached
- 3:12up have that little packet that was the
- 3:16ceremoniously depositing
- 3:20you
