  1. 0:01what's going on YouTube
  2. 0:03um this is going to be like the first
  3. 0:04face-to-face video I've actually done
  4. 0:06with you guys but I decided I'm gonna
  5. 0:08make a video on these P2 Volvos
  6. 0:12um why you should or shouldn't buy one
  7. 0:15um basically I'm gonna tell it just how
  8. 0:17it is
  9. 0:18um whether people get mad offended
  10. 0:20whatever I'm gonna talk about my
  11. 0:22experience with them whatever else so
  12. 0:24let's get into it so first off I want to
  13. 0:26start out by saying anyone who doesn't
  14. 0:27know who I am I basically gained the
  15. 0:30name the nickname T5 Tyrell from always
  16. 0:34buying um S60 t5s and then heavily
  17. 0:37modifying them
  18. 0:39um as far as P2 cars go I will admit all
  19. 0:41I've owned are p2s60 t5s but I've worked
  20. 0:45on more than just
  21. 0:47um S60 t5s for P2 cars
  22. 0:51um so what I want to start out by saying
  23. 0:54is
  24. 0:55these are Euro Cars
  25. 0:58um this basically goes for most Euro
  26. 1:00Cars in general anyway just keeping it
  27. 1:03real
  28. 1:04um but this isn't your Honda Toyota as
  29. 1:07we all know especially the older ones
  30. 1:08these older Hondas and Toyotas they're
  31. 1:11super reliable you know I've I've known
  32. 1:14I've I've even known someone personally
  33. 1:16who didn't do an oil change for a
  34. 1:18hundred thousand miles car kept going
  35. 1:20you know made it to 200 000 miles
  36. 1:22whatever but like it's not your Honda or
  37. 1:25your Toyota where you could just neglect
  38. 1:27doing maintenance keep driving it keep
  39. 1:29driving it and then the car just lasts
  40. 1:31you and be good and not blow up or not
  41. 1:33have any problems with that being said
  42. 1:37um these cars can be reliable they can
  43. 1:41be reliable not cause you issues but the
  44. 1:45big problem I will say with these cars
  45. 1:47like both Euro Cars is especially since
  46. 1:49they're older now people get enticed by
  47. 1:51the price they see oh I could get in
  48. 1:54this car for three four maybe five grand
  49. 1:57and that's how it is for as far as most
  50. 1:59P2 Volvos they range anywhere from about
  51. 2:02three grand all the way up to about you
  52. 2:06know Seven Grand on average if you're
  53. 2:08talking about like a newer like maybe a
  54. 2:11newer S60 T5 that's you know well
  55. 2:14specced out lower mileage with
  56. 2:16maintenance records that might be
  57. 2:18upwards of that price but for the most
  58. 2:19part on average even with this inflated
  59. 2:22car market you're getting these P2
  60. 2:24Volvos for like
  61. 2:25you know four or five grand maybe and
  62. 2:29um the r's are a whole nother ballpark
  63. 2:31those could be on average I see them for
  64. 2:34about
  65. 2:34you know Seven Grand on average all the
  66. 2:37way up to about 12 Grand on the high end
  67. 2:40if we're talking about like a fully
  68. 2:42specced out you know s60r manual
  69. 2:45transmission low mileage service records
  70. 2:47you know with a you know nicer rare
  71. 2:50paint job on the exterior maybe rare
  72. 2:52like interior color like the auto comma
  73. 2:54or something like that but um in general
  74. 2:57these P2 cars are cheaper to buy if
  75. 3:00we're looking outside of ours
  76. 3:02and
  77. 3:04with that like most Euro Cars people see
  78. 3:07the cheap price they buy them whatever
  79. 3:09and they either don't thoroughly look
  80. 3:11over them or they don't understand it
  81. 3:13just because the cars cheap to buy that
  82. 3:16does not mean it's cheap to maintain and
  83. 3:19I say that because
  84. 3:21um for two reasons one
  85. 3:23the parts for these cars are expensive
  86. 3:25that's without a doubt that's there's no
  87. 3:27arguing that if we're comparing a price
  88. 3:29you know of parts for this car versus a
  89. 3:33a non-euro car especially or versus your
  90. 3:36you know average commuter car you're
  91. 3:38gonna pay more the parts cost money if
  92. 3:41you're not willing to spend the money
  93. 3:43for genuine parts or OE Replacements
  94. 3:46that are known to be credible there is
  95. 3:49no point in buying these cars buying
  96. 3:51China cheap
  97. 3:52um maintenance parts off eBay and you
  98. 3:55know all that garbage it's not going to
  99. 3:57work out in your favor you know
  100. 3:59especially if it's anything engine or
  101. 4:01sensor related just stay away
  102. 4:05um but
  103. 4:07there's only I would say there's really
  104. 4:09only two major big maintenance items
  105. 4:12there are maintenance items you need to
  106. 4:13do you need to make sure done but the
  107. 4:15two biggest ones for the survival of the
  108. 4:17car is the PCV system and the timing
  109. 4:20belt if the car is over a hundred
  110. 4:22thousand miles and it has not has had
  111. 4:24these two items done
  112. 4:27um
  113. 4:28I would you definitely need to get a
  114. 4:30discount on the price of the car
  115. 4:32um timing belts life or death for these
  116. 4:35cars
  117. 4:36um their interference engines timing
  118. 4:37belt snaps or skips timing for some
  119. 4:39reason the engine is more than likely
  120. 4:42done
  121. 4:43PCV could be life or death too because
  122. 4:46it's the crankcase ventilation system
  123. 4:48when it gets clogged up or it's not
  124. 4:50functioning at a hundred percent the way
  125. 4:51it should what happens is it has nowhere
  126. 4:54to release that pressure so what does it
  127. 4:56do it ends up pushing out a cam seal and
  128. 4:59from my personal experience it's always
  129. 5:01the intake cam seal or at least that's
  130. 5:03what it's been on my t5s and I've had
  131. 5:06you know this PCV experience experience
  132. 5:08with it pushing out a cam seal happened
  133. 5:10to me more than once even after
  134. 5:12replacing the system so what I want to
  135. 5:14get into with that is
  136. 5:17pre-facelift cars if you're getting a
  137. 5:19pre-facelift car there is a issue with
  138. 5:21the PCV system that will not be fixed
  139. 5:23even when you buy a new kit so when you
  140. 5:26decide to replace the PCV system on
  141. 5:29these cars
  142. 5:30you need to buy
  143. 5:32the updated banjo bolt there's an
  144. 5:34updated banjo bolt part for these cars
  145. 5:37with a check valve in it you need to get
  146. 5:39that if you have a pre-facelift car so
  147. 5:41buy the PCV kit but make sure you get
  148. 5:43that updated banjo bolt the one that
  149. 5:46comes standard in these cars and I'll
  150. 5:49post a picture later on the video if I
  151. 5:51got it does not have the check valve in
  152. 5:54it
  153. 5:55and the reason why that's a problem is
  154. 5:57because not having that check valve
  155. 6:00basically allows boost to pressurize the
  156. 6:02system which will end up blowing out a
  157. 6:04cam seal resulting in a major oil leak
  158. 6:07and possibly Rod knocks soon after as
  159. 6:10you'll see on the screen soon on the
  160. 6:12right that's the banjo bolt with no
  161. 6:14check valve the left is the one with the
  162. 6:15check valve that you want and basically
  163. 6:18as long as like I said all the timing
  164. 6:20components have been done and replaced
  165. 6:22the PCV system has been done those are
  166. 6:25two major maintenance items outside of
  167. 6:27that the upper engine mount will more
  168. 6:29likely be blown out when you're buying
  169. 6:30these cars front end links as well which
  170. 6:33will cause that clunking and sometimes
  171. 6:35the spring seats outside of that these
  172. 6:37cars are really easy to work on and the
  173. 6:40only other things it's just simple
  174. 6:41things you got your spark plugs coil
  175. 6:44packs fuel filter which is underneath
  176. 6:47the car easily accessible turbo control
  177. 6:49valve is something else that's specific
  178. 6:51to these cars
  179. 6:53um
  180. 6:54serpentine belt and then you got you
  181. 6:56know
  182. 6:57um the two vv2 or one depending on the
  183. 7:00engine
  184. 7:01um VVT solenoid or solenoids on top of
  185. 7:04the engine those will sometimes go out
  186. 7:06130 000 miles plus outside of that um I
  187. 7:10would stay away from all o1 cars and I'd
  188. 7:13stay away from the S80 T6 and the XC90
  189. 7:15T6 terrible transmission issues on those
  190. 7:18cars keep going out my black T5 I bought
  191. 7:22high mileage from a car flipper with no
  192. 7:25service records big mistake it um since
  193. 7:28the beginning it wasn't the most
  194. 7:29reliable car and even after putting
  195. 7:31thousands of dollars into it you're
  196. 7:32trying to make it more reliable the car
  197. 7:34was still causing me some issues and it
  198. 7:37wasn't the most reliable car people
  199. 7:39might say it's because I modified it and
  200. 7:41while that is true that is not the full
  201. 7:44story and the car like I said since I
  202. 7:47got it which was when it was bone stock
  203. 7:49was still causing the issues so buying
  204. 7:51low mileage service records and keep up
  205. 7:53on maintenance and you should be good
  206. 7:55hope this video helps
