- 0:00Oh, take all my blood.
- 0:01>> [laughter]
- 0:02>> This is Eloise Leland, 81 years old. At
- 0:05this moment, she believes she's one step
- 0:07ahead of the investigation.
- 0:09>> I haven't done anything.
- 0:11>> What she doesn't realize is that
- 0:12detectives have already uncovered
- 0:14something she never expected.
- 0:16>> There was there was some more that went
- 0:18on in that meeting.
- 0:23>> Before this investigation unfolded,
- 0:25Eloise had already come to the attention
- 0:27of law enforcement. Just months earlier,
- 0:30around January 16th, 2025, animal
- 0:33control officers visited her Hernando
- 0:35property during a routine welfare check.
- 0:38Several dogs were found suffering from
- 0:40obvious medical conditions, and Leland
- 0:42was given notice to correct the
- 0:43violations. When officers returned a
- 0:46week later, they found conditions had
- 0:48deteriorated even further. A wolf hybrid
- 0:50named Phoenix had died from severe
- 0:52malnutrition, while several other
- 0:54animals were found dead or living in
- 0:56neglect. The following day, authorities
- 0:59removed 90 dogs from the property in one
- 1:01of the largest animal seizures in Citrus
- 1:03County history. Leland, then 79 years
- 1:06old, was arrested on one felony count of
- 1:08aggravated animal cruelty and five
- 1:11misdemeanor counts of animal neglect.
- 1:13The case kept her on the radar of local
- 1:15law enforcement. Nearly a year later, on
- 1:18January 7th, 2026, investigators
- 1:21received confidential information from a
- 1:23man named Michael Grove, who had been
- 1:25working for Eloise.
- 1:27This time, the allegations had nothing
- 1:30to do with animals. What he revealed
- 1:32would take the investigation in an
- 1:34entirely different direction.
- 1:37>> It started a couple of months ago.
- 1:40And then, uh, a few months later, and
- 1:41then I had the surgery.
- 1:44And then, when I came out of the
- 1:46surgery, um,
- 1:47she was always coming over like she was
- 1:49concerned about my welfare.
- 1:51>> Mhm.
- 1:51>> But she just wanted to see if I was
- 1:53healthy enough to
- 1:55carry out this task.
- 1:57After after the function down and
- 2:00she called me up. She's like, "Are you
- 2:01busy?" I said, "No." She said, "Meet me
- 2:03by late."
- 2:05I walked up. She's like, "Man, I need
- 2:07you to do me a favor." I said, "What's
- 2:08that?" She said, "I need you to kill my
- 2:09brother." I said, "What?"
- 2:11I said, "Stanley?" She said, "Yeah,
- 2:13man." And now she told me, she said, "If
- 2:16you can't do it, find somebody that
- 2:18will. I'll take care of it."
- 2:20And um
- 2:23Like I said, everybody that I ever
- 2:25worked with hated Stan,
- 2:27but uh
- 2:28I stood up to him. So, it was kind of a
- 2:31mutual respect there.
- 2:33Everybody was scared of him and ran when
- 2:35he came there.
- 2:37But uh
- 2:39Uh she said, "Hey, if you find someone,
- 2:41then make him pay
- 2:43because Stan's in good shape. He rides
- 2:45bikes like 7 [music]
- 2:477 miles a day and
- 2:48and uh he's got some issues."
- 2:52>> As deputies listened, Michael explained
- 2:54that Eloise wanted her brother dead over
- 2:56a dispute stemming from a deal they had
- 2:58made years earlier.
- 2:59Stanley had helped Eloise purchase a
- 3:01valuable piece of property under a
- 3:03verbal agreement that the proceeds would
- 3:05be split equally once it was sold. But
- 3:07when the property was eventually sold,
- 3:09the agreement became the center of a
- 3:11bitter dispute. Eloise no longer wanted
- 3:13to share the money. She believed that if
- 3:15Stanley died, his share of the proceeds,
- 3:18along with his other assets, would pass
- 3:20through probate, leaving her in a
- 3:21position to benefit [music] financially.
- 3:24Michael then outlined what he believed
- 3:25was Eloise's plan. If the killing went
- 3:28ahead, she and John would leave early
- 3:30that morning and stay away until later
- 3:32that night or even the following day.
- 3:34Once it was over, she planned to leave
- 3:36the country and move to Ireland.
- 3:38>> So, what did she you made an injection
- 3:41motion with Stan. What did she want you
- 3:43to do to Stan?
- 3:45>> Yes.
- 3:46>> She want you to inject him with insulin?
- 3:48>> He's not a diabetic.
- 3:50>> He's not diabetic?
- 3:51>> No.
- 3:51>> So, where where would the insulin come
- 3:53from?
- 3:54>> You asked me because I am a diabetic,
- 3:56but I don't take insulin.
- 3:57>> However, her plan to kill her brother
- 3:59wasn't entirely unexpected to Michael.
- 4:02From everything he had come to know
- 4:03about Eloise, she wasn't someone who
- 4:05could be described as impulsive or
- 4:07unimaginative. She had been married four
- 4:09times, including to an airline pilot.
- 4:12She'd worked as a professional model,
- 4:14competed in motocross, and spent time
- 4:16white water rafting through the rapids
- 4:18of Montana. Those experiences painted
- 4:20the picture of someone who was
- 4:22adventurous, resourceful, [music] and
- 4:23accustomed to thinking beyond the
- 4:25ordinary. That breadth of life
- 4:26experience made the level of planning
- 4:28seem believable. With the investigation
- 4:31reaching a critical stage, detectives
- 4:33chose not to confront Eloise just yet.
- 4:36Instead, [music] they spent the next
- 4:37week preparing one final move, one
- 4:39designed to reveal far more than a
- 4:41formal interview ever could. On January
- 4:44[music] 16th, 2026, investigators went
- 4:47to Eloise's home. With her brother and a
- 4:49friend present, they calmly asked her to
- 4:51step outside. What followed made [music]
- 4:53it clear they hadn't come simply to ask
- 4:55questions.
- 4:56>> How long you been living here?
- 4:58>> Oh, man, I'm just a sitter for them.
- 4:59>> Oh.
- 5:00>> I own the house next door, but I got
- 5:02tenants in there. I sold property I had
- 5:05for 20 years. I sold that.
- 5:07>> Where was that at?
- 5:08>> That was just um I was raising dogs
- 5:10then. That was just um
- 5:12I'm good at dog fostering.
- 5:14>> Not very busy tonight. You know what I
- 5:16mean?
- 5:17>> Well.
- 5:18>> Eloise, are you the only one home?
- 5:19>> No, no. My brother and my friend are in
- 5:22the house.
- 5:22>> Your brother and your friend are in the
- 5:23house?
- 5:24>> Yes.
- 5:24>> What's your friend's name?
- 5:26>> My My friend's name is John.
- 5:28>> John?
- 5:28>> John Collier.
- 5:29>> Okay.
- 5:30Hang out for a minute with these guys.
- 5:32>> Sure.
- 5:35So, this is all very bizarre.
- 5:37>> Um put your hands just like this.
- 5:41>> What's this about?
- 5:44>> Is there a duffel right here?
- 5:45>> Yeah.
- 5:46This is very bizarre. What's this about?
- 5:49>> Do you have any pockets or anything like
- 5:50that?
- 5:50>> take that.
- 5:51>> I don't have anything in any pockets.
- 5:54>> Before anyone left the property,
- 5:55investigators took a moment to explain
- 5:57the situation to Eloise, giving her an
- 5:59opportunity to understand what they had
- 6:01uncovered and what would happen next.
- 6:04>> All right, Ms. Wayland.
- 6:05Um, I've got some news I got to break to
- 6:07you, okay?
- 6:08Uh
- 6:09we're all here today because there's an
- 6:10active warrant for your arrest. Okay.
- 6:13Uh it is for conspiracy to commit
- 6:15first-degree murder.
- 6:16And uh we're going to be going for a
- 6:17ride, okay? I'd like to get you back to
- 6:20a facility where it's a little bit
- 6:21warmer so we can sit down and try and
- 6:22talk all this out. If it's a
- 6:23misunderstanding, this [music] is your
- 6:24one and only opportunity to clear your
- 6:25name. Okay?
- 6:26>> I have no idea what this
- 6:28>> I I understand that. You're probably
- 6:29eager to find out what we know and and
- 6:32what we want to talk about. So, we're
- 6:33going to put you in one of these cars
- 6:34here with the detective.
- 6:35>> you have the right person?
- 6:36>> Yes, ma'am.
- 6:37Yes, ma'am. So, we're going to go and
- 6:39get loaded up and uh head down to the
- 6:41office and sit there in the in the
- 6:43warmth and have a little conversation,
- 6:44okay?
- 6:45We're going to leave those handcuffs in
- 6:46front of you. We're not, you know,
- 6:48normally they go behind you, but uh
- 6:50you don't seem like you're going to
- 6:52be mean and fight and try and run away,
- 6:54so.
- 6:54>> I don't think I did very much.
- 6:56>> Well, as soon as we get there, I'll pull
- 6:58those off of you and we'll we'll be able
- 6:59to have a conversation, okay?
- 7:03>> As expected, Eloise appeared confused by
- 7:05the encounter, insisting there had to be
- 7:07some kind of misunderstanding. What she
- 7:10didn't realize was that investigators
- 7:12had already gone far beyond Michael's
- 7:13account. They had obtained evidence that
- 7:16would fundamentally change the
- 7:17conversation they were about to have.
- 7:19>> There is some more that went on in that
- 7:21meeting.
- 7:23You tell me that.
- 7:25>> Once inside the sheriff's office,
- 7:26detectives [music] took an approach
- 7:28Eloise likely wasn't expecting. Before
- 7:30asking about the allegations, [music]
- 7:31they reached for a single photograph and
- 7:33slid it across the table. What happened
- 7:36next [music] would shape the rest of the
- 7:37interview.
- 7:38>> Eloise,
- 7:40it's kind of hard to see.
- 7:43>> What?
- 7:43>> Do you know that gentleman right there?
- 7:45>> I don't know who he is.
- 7:47>> You don't know who he is?
- 7:50>> Well, who is he?
- 7:53What's going on with him?
- 7:56>> How do you know him?
- 7:57>> I saw him I'm just No, I'm just saying
- 7:58are his hands behind his back?
- 8:00>> Yes, he's being put in the back of a
- 8:01patrol car.
- 8:02>> For what?
- 8:03>> How do you know him?
- 8:05>> I I mean
- 8:06I don't know him at all. Now, he could
- 8:09be that some
- 8:11that a friend of mine
- 8:13said he needs to get a car and I said,
- 8:15"Well, my brother's
- 8:16car um
- 8:18that the car is sitting there for 3
- 8:20years now.
- 8:22And do you know what?
- 8:24Maybe you could make a deal with him,
- 8:25but that was I mean, it looks like him.
- 8:27That's what I'm saying.
- 8:28>> Mhm.
- 8:28>> This was this afternoon, but I don't
- 8:30know if that's the same person or not.
- 8:33And why in the world is
- 8:36Is he
- 8:38>> All right, there's one thing that I
- 8:39always like to lay out for anybody that
- 8:40I talk to in this room, whether they're
- 8:42a victim, a suspect, or a witness, or
- 8:43anything of that nature. Um
- 8:46our time is important just the same as
- 8:47your time is important. You would not be
- 8:49here if there was no certain information
- 8:51that we felt was compelling enough to
- 8:52bring you into this room.
- 8:53>> Well, I see that they don't
- 8:54>> me just let me finish up there, okay? Um
- 8:58I know that you've got some knowledge of
- 9:00who that man is.
- 9:01And this is your opportunity
- 9:03>> I guess he he A friend of mine has known
- 9:05him for a lot of years.
- 9:06>> Just let me finish up there, okay?
- 9:08>> If that is the same person
- 9:09>> This is the opportunity for you to be
- 9:12forthcoming and [music] truthful with
- 9:14what you know.
- 9:15Um
- 9:16and if I get the impression that you're
- 9:18not being honest with us, I'm just going
- 9:20to end the interview, okay? So, I would
- 9:22just ask that for the sake of not
- 9:24wasting your time or mine, please just
- 9:25be honest with me and I'm going to give
- 9:27you that same courtesy, [music] okay?
- 9:28>> Okay. That is the person that I talked
- 9:30to this morning.
- 9:31>> Okay.
- 9:32>> I don't know why he's in handcuffs.
- 9:33>> Do you know what his name is?
- 9:36>> I don't remember.
- 9:36>> It's a friend of
- 9:37>> Okay. Who's Who's the mutual friend?
- 9:40>> Mutual friend is His name is Michael.
- 9:43>> Okay. Do you know Michael's last name?
- 9:45>> Oh my
- 9:45goodness.
- 9:47I don't remember. I've I've known him
- 9:48for years and years.
- 9:50>> The [music] The reason uh for your
- 9:53awesome introduction.
- 9:54>> Michael's been telling me that that this
- 9:57This is the first time I've seen this
- 9:58friend.
- 9:58>> Mhm.
- 9:59>> But he's telling me he's been
- 10:01He works for a He's a long-haul driver
- 10:04or something. He's got a house here and
- 10:05he's out of town and his
- 10:07his wife
- 10:09Anyway, he's
- 10:11problems with his wife and he's selling
- 10:13He's selling the house now and anyway, I
- 10:15just
- 10:17just that he asked me to help get him I
- 10:19just He just borrowed some money from me
- 10:20to give to this friend, he said.
- 10:22>> And who borrowed the money from you?
- 10:25The Mike Your Your friend Michael did?
- 10:27>> Yeah. I mean to
- 10:28>> borrowed money from you to give to his
- 10:29friend.
- 10:30>> Yeah.
- 10:31>> And his friend is the one that you're
- 10:32saying you met this morning. That's the
- 10:33fellow in the picture.
- 10:34>> I guess that is. I guess that is.
- 10:36>> Okay. You can look at the picture again
- 10:37if you want to see it.
- 10:40>> So,
- 10:42our deputies
- 10:44stopped him earlier.
- 10:47And he had a story to tell us.
- 10:50>> They stopped him?
- 10:51>> Yes.
- 10:52>> Where was he?
- 10:52>> Earlier this afternoon. I'm not sure
- 10:54>> Why is he Why is he
- 10:56>> Well,
- 10:59that's a different story as to why he's
- 11:02in handcuffs.
- 11:02>> Yeah, cuz
- 11:03>> Okay?
- 11:04But
- 11:07while he was in those
- 11:09he explained a story to us about his
- 11:12meeting with you today.
- 11:17You want to tell us about that?
- 11:21>> Like I said, he's
- 11:22My friend uh
- 11:24Michael has just talked about him saying
- 11:26all the things.
- 11:27>> Mhm.
- 11:27>> All the prob- problems [music] he's been
- 11:29going through.
- 11:30>> So, went to pick him up at the airport
- 11:33and hit a deer in his car and
- 11:35wrecked his car. I mean, it was just
- 11:38>> What kind of What kind of car was he
- 11:39driving today?
- 11:40>> I don't know cars.
- 11:41>> You don't know cars. You know what color
- 11:42it was?
- 11:45>> I think it was a
- 11:46I don't I'm sorry. I don't know.
- 11:49>> He said he he
- 11:50I don't even know
- 11:51whose car it was.
- 11:52>> Okay.
- 11:53>> Because he said that uh
- 11:55>> He He told us all about the meeting he
- 11:58had with you today.
- 12:00>> Okay.
- 12:00>> He said he and I I told him my brother
- 12:02has this car that's been sitting there
- 12:04for 3 years. He said he had to
- 12:07He's going to need a car and I said,
- 12:08"Well, it's been sitting there for 3
- 12:09years."
- 12:10>> Mhm.
- 12:11>> So, I don't know.
- 12:13>> There was There was some more that went
- 12:15on in that meeting.
- 12:17>> He told me that
- 12:19>> Detectives then turned their attention
- 12:21to what they believed was driving her
- 12:23actions. They laid out the motive they
- 12:25had uncovered, connecting it to the
- 12:26weeks of investigative work that had
- 12:28brought them to this moment.
- 12:30>> What you told Michael was BS
- 12:34about the property being sold and you
- 12:37getting his half of the proceeds.
- 12:39>> What? I never said that.
- 12:41>> Well, there's a written agreement
- 12:42between you and and your brother that
- 12:44talks about the money that was invested
- 12:46in the dog farm, the wolf dog farm. Um
- 12:50that that money, should the farm ever be
- 12:52sold, that y'all are going to split it.
- 12:53>> I've never seen it. What do you mean?
- 12:55I've never heard that.
- 12:55>> There's There's an agreement between you
- 12:57and your brother.
- 12:58>> Where is that agreement? I've never seen
- 13:00that.
- 13:01>> And that is why you want him dead
- 13:03>> [music]
- 13:03>> so that you can get your half and his
- 13:05half.
- 13:05>> written agreement.
- 13:06>> By this point, detectives [music] made
- 13:08it clear the interview was about to take
- 13:09a different direction. Before revealing
- 13:12what they had, they gave Eloise one last
- 13:14chance to speak.
- 13:15>> And that's going to be your last
- 13:17opportunity
- 13:21to explain your side of all this.
- 13:24If If you don't do that,
- 13:27the next time your story is told,
- 13:30it's going to be to a jury,
- 13:33and it's going to be on that video
- 13:36with you in the car
- 13:39drawing this map
- 13:43to where your brother's bedroom is.
- 13:48So, that Mike can go in
- 13:51and kill him
- 13:53and get the van as payment.
- 13:56>> That's That's But, that doesn't seem to
- 13:57make much sense, though.
- 13:58>> I don't Okay.
- 14:00>> It doesn't make any Does not make any
- 14:01sense that a van that's
- 14:04my brother paid
- 14:05$500 for
- 14:073 years ago,
- 14:09drove out to California, drove back,
- 14:11that somebody's
- 14:14Does that make any sense to you?
- 14:18>> Did it make any sense to you?
- 14:20>> Since Eloise refused to change her
- 14:21position, detectives made it clear they
- 14:23were prepared to let the case move
- 14:25[music] forward. Before ending the
- 14:27interview, however, they revealed one
- 14:29final piece of the investigation,
- 14:31something she never expected them to
- 14:32know.
- 14:33>> When you talked to Mike on the phone,
- 14:36Mike was sitting right in that room, and
- 14:37we were all listening.
- 14:39>> Well, I was talking to him.
- 14:41To Michael, what do you mean?
- 14:42>> Yes.
- 14:43>> My friend Michael.
- 14:44>> Yes.
- 14:45Michael has a conscience. Michael's a
- 14:47human. He has a conscience.
- 14:50He's not going to kill somebody for you.
- 14:53>> Well, then why is he not What's all this
- 14:55saying, then?
- 14:56About?
- 14:56>> Because Michael
- 14:58>> Oh, wait.
- 14:58>> found his buddy Mike, the truck driver.
- 15:01And you asked Mike to do it.
- 15:03>> I didn't know.
- 15:04>> How did you ask Mike
- 15:05>> I never even
- 15:06>> What did you tell Mike how you wanted
- 15:08him to kill
- 15:10>> This doesn't make any sense, now.
- 15:13How many Mikes are there?
- 15:14>> There's two.
- 15:16But, the other Mike is a police officer.
- 15:19How did you
- 15:20>> The one Okay.
- 15:21>> The guy you talked to today
- 15:23>> is a police officer.
- 15:24>> How did you want him to kill Stanley?
- 15:26>> Nothing was going to happen. Nothing.
- 15:28>> How did you want him to kill Stanley?
- 15:32>> He wasn't going to do anything.
- 15:35>> No, cuz he's a good person.
- 15:38But you wanted him to.
- 15:40You asked him to.
- 15:42How did you ask him to do it?
- 15:45>> He kept telling
- 15:46>> Pick one of four cuz you gave up four
- 15:48different ways.
- 15:49>> I didn't.
- 15:51>> Yes, you did.
- 15:53The words came out of your mouth,
- 15:55Eloise. We all heard them.
- 15:58You showed that guy
- 16:01You showed that guy how to get in the
- 16:03house, how to get to Stanley's room
- 16:08so he could kill him.
- 16:11How did you tell him to kill him?
- 16:13>> was going to happen.
- 16:14>> tell him to kill him?
- 16:15>> What Eloise didn't know was that after
- 16:17telling Michael to find someone else if
- 16:19he wouldn't do it, detectives quietly
- 16:21expanded the investigation beyond Citrus
- 16:23County.
- 16:24They brought in an undercover officer
- 16:26from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's
- 16:28Office, nearly 250 mi away, reducing the
- 16:31chances that Eloise would recognize him
- 16:33or trace him to the investigation.
- 16:35He posed as the person Michael had
- 16:37found.
- 16:38That undercover operation gave
- 16:40investigators the evidence they needed
- 16:42to move the case forward. Eloise Leland
- 16:44was charged with solicitation to commit
- 16:47first-degree murder and booked into the
- 16:48Citrus County Detention Facility, where
- 16:51she was held without bond. Detectives
- 16:53determined that no other individuals
- 16:55were involved and Stanley was removed
- 16:57from the environment and taken to a safe
- 16:59location.
