  1. 0:01ABBY LEE MILLER (VOICEOVER): Previously on "Dance Moms,"
  2. 0:03CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Abby Lee draws on abs?
  3. 0:04We have real abs.
  4. 0:05Did you stand in the wings and watch the group from Cathy's?
  5. 0:07The bigger one in the middle, that's who you're up against.
  6. 0:09ABBY LEE MILLER: Your kids look really old.
  7. 0:10MELISSA GISONI: And she doesn't seem like she
  8. 0:12was from Cathy's studio at all.
  9. 0:13Exactly.
  10. 0:14She's at least 15.
  11. 0:15How old is Erica and her date of birth?
  12. 0:17Erica is 14.
  13. 0:18WOMAN: Correct.
  14. 0:19She is in the wrong age division.
  15. 0:21I look like an idiot, that I just
  16. 0:22can't win on our own talent.
  17. 0:24CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: All right, listen, Nose.
  18. 0:26You've done nothing-- - I didn't want to--
  19. 0:27[interposing voices]
  20. 0:28Complain about her, Abby.
  21. 0:29Be gone, witch! CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: I called--
  22. 0:30[interposing voices]
  23. 0:31You have no powers here!
  24. 0:32[suspenseful music]
  25. 0:33ABBY LEE MILLER: Things are going to be a little bit
  26. 0:34different this time.
  27. 0:35Maddie and Chloe will go head to head.
  28. 0:37CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: We have our nemesis here again.
  29. 0:41Boo.
  30. 0:41The Abby Lee Dance Company.
  31. 0:43Boo.
  32. 0:44I know you like to dance, but could be something new
  33. 0:46if you're over it.
  34. 0:47Yell out your colors.
  35. 0:49Panthers blue and gold.
  36. 0:51ABBY LEE MILLER: She should have opened her mouth
  37. 0:53and said, Abbty, that is a mature 13-year-old.
  38. 0:56We're trying to stand behind Brooke in her decision.
  39. 0:59And we want--
  40. 1:00Right there, you're an [bleep]
  41. 1:03[theme music]
  42. 1:06THEME SONG: Get up.
  43. 1:07Get on the floor.
  44. 1:09My world is with my girls.
  45. 1:12Living on the dancefloor.
  46. 1:16[tires whirring]
  47. 1:18ABBY LEE MILLER: Girls! Come on.
  48. 1:19Let's go.
  49. 1:20Let's have a big round of applause.
  50. 1:23I think we made applesauce, don't you?
  51. 1:26[laughing]
  52. 1:27Now, the group won.
  53. 1:28They won the overall.
  54. 1:29But you know what?
  55. 1:31That was one competition.
  56. 1:32For this week, we are going to Starbound in New Jersey.
  57. 1:35We walk into Starbound, you need to be those national champions.
  58. 1:39All right, on the bottom, Nia, simply because of the mistake
  59. 1:44in the choreography.
  60. 1:46[muted music]
  61. 1:48[intense music]
  62. 1:49And that dance is easy.
  63. 1:51It's simple.
  64. 1:53NIA SIOUX (VOICEOVER): I'm sad that I'm last this week
  65. 1:55because I worked really hard to get to the top,
  66. 1:57and I went back to the bottom.
  67. 2:00ABBY LEE MILLER: Next I have Kendall.
  68. 2:03You need to learn to read music, and you need
  69. 2:05to learn to hear the music.
  70. 2:07Kendall did a big no-no in the group dance.
  71. 2:11Totally off the music.
  72. 2:12She started four counts ahead of everyone else.
  73. 2:14I'm going to keep her on probation.
  74. 2:17Until I hand her that jacket, she's still proving herself.
  75. 2:21Paige, I've seen you do the press better.
  76. 2:23I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.
  77. 2:25I thought you did a nice job.
  78. 2:27Next, MacKenzie.
  79. 2:30This week, you are not in the group.
  80. 2:33You are going to do a solo.
  81. 2:35All right.
  82. 2:36Next I have Maddie.
  83. 2:41You were the highest scoring number
  84. 2:44in the entire competition.
  85. 2:45Why do you think you're not on the top?
  86. 2:47MADDIE ZIEGLER (VOICEOVER): I actually
  87. 2:48want someone else to be on the top
  88. 2:50because I want someone else to see what that feels
  89. 2:53like, and be really happy, and getting the star of the group
  90. 2:57dance.
  91. 2:58ABBY LEE MILLER: I want you to stop resting on your laurels.
  92. 3:01I want you to keep improving for the next 20 years,
  93. 3:04not for one competition.
  94. 3:06Do you understand?
  95. 3:07So, you impressed them.
  96. 3:09I want you to impress me.
  97. 3:10Maddie really should have been on top of the pyramid
  98. 3:12this week because she won.
  99. 3:13I feel that Abby just wants to give other kids a chance
  100. 3:16on the pyramid.
  101. 3:18She had to, of course, make a little comment to Maddie,
  102. 3:20but I'm sure it had nothing to do with her dance skills.
  103. 3:23Next I have Chloe.
  104. 3:26Chloe, you didn't do a solo last week.
  105. 3:27You were great in the group.
  106. 3:29People are recognizing you from the video,
  107. 3:31but I want them to recognize you for your dancing.
  108. 3:33Understood?
  109. 3:34CHRISTI ZOOK LUKASIAK (VOICEOVER):
  110. 3:36This is the first time Chloe has ever been above Maddie
  111. 3:37on the pyramid.
  112. 3:38So it's like, celebration day.
  113. 3:40Ice cream for everyone!
  114. 3:41And on top of the pyramid this week is Brooke.
  115. 3:45You went out there.
  116. 3:46You proved yourself.
  117. 3:47I mean, you went from worst to best in one week.
  118. 3:50I think being at the top means something to Brooke.
  119. 3:52I mean, I think it means something
  120. 3:54to every one of those kids.
  121. 3:55You know, Brooke felt proud of herself
  122. 3:57for finally making it to the top.
  123. 3:59And that really made me feel happy.
  124. 4:02You're the oldest person in this group.
  125. 4:03You need to be the role model.
  126. 4:05And that needs to continue.
  127. 4:06Abby wants me to be a role model for all the other girls,
  128. 4:09but I really don't know if I want
  129. 4:11to be a role model for them.
  130. 4:12MacKenzie, you're doing a routine called My Parade,
  131. 4:16and it's all about you, kiddo.
  132. 4:18You're going to March out from that corner
  133. 4:19like you're the leader of the big parade.
  134. 4:22Maddie, this week you're going to be doing a jazz routine
  135. 4:25to Lights Camera, Action.
  136. 4:27Chloe, you're going to be doing a lyrical routine to Don't
  137. 4:31Catch Me.
  138. 4:32Things are going to be a little bit different this time.
  139. 4:34Maddie and Chloe will go head to head,
  140. 4:35so there's a lot at stake.
  141. 4:38Chloe's so happy she's having a lyrical solo.
  142. 4:40CHRISTI ZOOK LUKASIAK (VOICEOVER):
  143. 4:41So once again, you know, my daughter's
  144. 4:44put head to head with Maddie.
  145. 4:45But Chloe can beat Maddie.
  146. 4:47If she would just go out there and perform the piece as we
  147. 4:50know she can, she will be fine.
  148. 4:52Now, the group dance that everybody's in except MacKenzie
  149. 4:56is Born to Dance, and it's about a child being born.
  150. 5:00There's a little mystery to it.
  151. 5:02These are little girls, and I'm not sure
  152. 5:04that we should be bringing up the birds and the bees.
  153. 5:06That's health class, not dance class.
  154. 5:08Brooke, you're going to be featured in this number,
  155. 5:10but you should be the glue that's holding it together.
  156. 5:13And Maddie has been the glue that's holding it together.
  157. 5:16You need to be the most advanced one in the group,
  158. 5:17not looking around to see what these two are doing.
  159. 5:20Understood?
  160. 5:22Brooke, don't let me down.
  161. 5:25Moms, please go.
  162. 5:27Girls, stretch out.
  163. 5:28Let's go.
  164. 5:28[dance music]
  165. 5:34[MUSIC - NIKKO LOWE - "SENTIMENTAL"]
  166. 5:35That's what I want to see.
  167. 5:36MUSIC: First smile-
  168. 5:38Smile!
  169. 5:41Walk back up!
  170. 5:42ABBY LEE MILLER (VOICEOVER): This week's group routine
  171. 5:44is called Born to Dance.
  172. 5:46It's kind of provocative, yet beautiful and wondrous,
  173. 5:52and it's all done very artistically.
  174. 5:55I want their costumes and the dancers
  175. 5:57to appear as if they're just being born.
  176. 5:59Go on your stomach.
  177. 6:01It doesn't-- she didn't really say what--
  178. 6:03[interposing voices]
  179. 6:04CHRISTI ZOOK LUKASIAk: Oh my God, Brooke's
  180. 6:05in fetal position!
  181. 6:06[screaming]
  182. 6:07MELISSA GISON: Oh my gosh.
  183. 6:08[laughing]
  184. 6:09Electricity!
  185. 6:09Did you see that?
  186. 6:10Bring back electricity!
  187. 6:11She just came out of the vagina.
  188. 6:13She went like this.
  189. 6:16Can I come out?
  190. 6:18CHRISTI ZOOK LUKASIAK: Oh my God.
  191. 6:20I really worry that our girls don't need to be exposed
  192. 6:24to things too early.
  193. 6:25I like that they're young, and they're innocent,
  194. 6:27and they're naive.
  195. 6:28And there's no need to rush that.
  196. 6:30ABBY LEE MILLER: Five, six, seven, go.
  197. 6:32Now, you need to plie, Chloe.
  198. 6:35You do.
  199. 6:37Saute and saute.
  200. 6:39And run, run, [inaudible] grande jete.
  201. 6:43Bah-ah.
  202. 6:44I know you try to pretend like, you know,
  203. 6:47everything's OK, but you're not upset at all that Maddie wasn't
  204. 6:49at the top after doing such a good job?
  205. 6:52Maddie had the highest score of the day,
  206. 6:54but Brooke was fabulous.
  207. 6:56And I can't take that away from her.
  208. 6:58KELLY HYLAND: But her and Brooke were only one point apart.
  209. 7:00Oh, I know that.
  210. 7:01Oh, I know that.
  211. 7:02I guess I'm a little perturbed.
  212. 7:04I think it's not fair, but I want to give another kid
  213. 7:07another chance.
  214. 7:08It's definitely not a fair thing.
  215. 7:09So that's why I don't think the pyramid is a fair thing.
  216. 7:11I think the pyramid sucks.
  217. 7:13My daughter's a natural.
  218. 7:14And let's just see what happens.
  219. 7:16That's the furthest down Maddie's
  220. 7:18ever been on the pyramid.
  221. 7:19I think this is a little hard on Melissa.
  222. 7:20Melissa is used to Maddie being the best.
  223. 7:23She lets us know that Maddie is the best at every chance she
  224. 7:25gets.
  225. 7:26And right now, Brooke's the best.
  226. 7:29ABBY LEE MILLER: Up, up!
  227. 7:30Roll, Brooke.
  228. 7:31Plie, plie.
  229. 7:32Lock the back of your knee, Brooke.
  230. 7:33[inaudible] Swing it through.
  231. 7:34I really appreciate that Abby put me on top of the pyramid
  232. 7:36this week, but Abby's being really hard on me.
  233. 7:39One, two, three, four.
  234. 7:42Where are your feet?
  235. 7:43Look at your feet, Brooke.
  236. 7:45Ball change, plie.
  237. 7:47The lower you plie, and get your butt underneath you, Brooke.
  238. 7:49BROOKE HYLAND (VOICEOVER): I'm just
  239. 7:50wondering if I should go off and do other things,
  240. 7:53like cheerleading.
  241. 7:54ABBY LEE MILLER: And one.
  242. 7:55Developpe two.
  243. 7:56[intense music]
  244. 7:58[marching band playing]
  245. 7:59[cheering]
  246. 8:02I ended up going to the football game after rehearsal,
  247. 8:05but Abby's yelling at me a lot, saying
  248. 8:08that I have to stay focused and don't worry
  249. 8:11about missing football games and stuff.
  250. 8:14CHEER MOM: So, are you gonna try out?
  251. 8:16For what?
  252. 8:17CHEER MOM: For cheer.
  253. 8:18The real ticket?
  254. 8:19CHEER MOM: School cheer.
  255. 8:20I don't know.
  256. 8:21I know you like to dance, but could be something new
  257. 8:24if you're over it.
  258. 8:25- Mm-hmm. - Mm-hmm?
  259. 8:26Totally.
  260. 8:27Dancing is hard because you have to go
  261. 8:29to rehearsal every single day.
  262. 8:31And I'm always missing all the parties and, like, the football
  263. 8:34games and stuff, but all my friends get to go
  264. 8:36and they're all cheerleaders.
  265. 8:37So it's just really hard.
  266. 8:39CHEER COACH: Girls, spread out!
  267. 8:41CHEER SQUAD: F R H S we are!
  268. 8:45BROOKE HYLAND (VOICEOVER): I'm curious to see if cheerleading
  269. 8:47is going to be something fun for me.
  270. 8:49I might be able to hang out with my friends more.
  271. 8:51And it could be something that I'd love to do.
  272. 8:53[music playing]
  273. 8:59KELLY HYLAND: What are you doing, Peanut?
  274. 9:00BROOKE HYLAND: My homework.
  275. 9:01Cheerleading tryouts are coming up.
  276. 9:03When are the tryouts?
  277. 9:05The same day as the competition.
  278. 9:07You're at the top of the pyramid this week.
  279. 9:09I didn't schedule them.
  280. 9:10So not only do I have to tell her
  281. 9:11you're going to cheerleading tryouts,
  282. 9:12but you have to skip the competition.
  283. 9:14I don't ever want her to come back to me and say,
  284. 9:16you made me go away for the dance competition
  285. 9:19so I didn't get to try out for cheerleading.
  286. 9:20And I regret not doing anything like that in my high school
  287. 9:24years.
  288. 9:25So I need Brooke to make that decision.
  289. 9:27You're like the lead in the dance, for once in your life.
  290. 9:30Do you realize, like, she's going to kill us?
  291. 9:33I really don't want to ruin our group number
  292. 9:35and hurt my team, but also cheerleading could be something
  293. 9:38that I'm really interested in.
  294. 9:39You do realize, though, that if I tell Abby that you're not
  295. 9:42going because you're going to cheerleading,
  296. 9:43she probably won't let you back in the studio.
  297. 9:45[dramatic music]
  298. 9:52[dance music]
  299. 9:53ABBY LEE MILLER: Clean it up.
  300. 9:54Ready?
  301. 9:55And go.
  302. 9:56One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
  303. 10:00I'm excited that I have a solo this week.
  304. 10:03Big!
  305. 10:04ABBY LEE MILLER (VOICEOVER): McKenzie really proved herself
  306. 10:06in the group dance, so she's being rewarded with a solo.
  307. 10:09It's called Showtime, but it's about the leader of the band.
  308. 10:13She has her own parade, she's coming down the street.
  309. 10:16It's adorable.
  310. 10:17I just hope she remembers it.
  311. 10:22MacKenzie, do you understand that last year you
  312. 10:24were like a little baby?
  313. 10:26This is for the Abby Lee Dance Company.
  314. 10:27Everybody's going to know that you're my student.
  315. 10:29And you're the youngest one I'm taking.
  316. 10:31Get it?
  317. 10:32Don't let me down.
  318. 10:34I am totally ready to dance with the big girls.
  319. 10:37[playful music]
  320. 10:42Cheers!
  321. 10:43It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?
  322. 10:47I talked to Brooke last night.
  323. 10:49She's just had it with Abby, telling her how she's not
  324. 10:52the leader of the group.
  325. 10:53And I mean, I know she's on the top of the pyramid this week,
  326. 10:56but she just keeps downgrading her.
  327. 11:00And she's at the point that she wants
  328. 11:02to try out for cheerleading.
  329. 11:05The problem is our competition this Saturday.
  330. 11:09I feel like if I don't send her, that she's going to blame
  331. 11:12me and be like, you know, I wanted
  332. 11:14to try out for cheerleading.
  333. 11:15You wouldn't let me.
  334. 11:17But then on the other hand, I feel bad for the group.
  335. 11:19If Maddie came to me and said she wanted to pursue something
  336. 11:22else besides dance, I wouldn't allow her to do it
  337. 11:24in the middle of any season.
  338. 11:26It lets down the group if you are not
  339. 11:28committed to the whole season.
  340. 11:30I personally don't think she's going to like it,
  341. 11:32but I need her to find that out on her own.
  342. 11:35Abby is going to cream you.
  343. 11:37And I'm prepared for that, as long as I'm
  344. 11:39doing what's right for my kid.
  345. 11:40Absolutely.
  346. 11:41Well, we'll be there to support you.
  347. 11:43Then you're making the right decision.
  348. 11:44[MUSIC - ANALOGUE REVOLUTION, "LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION"]
  349. 11:46(SINGING) Lights, camera, action.
  350. 11:50Lights are flashing.
  351. 11:51Swagger down the runway--
  352. 11:53My solo this week is called Lights, Camera, Action,
  353. 11:56and it's a jazz dance.
  354. 11:58I don't really have jazz solos, so I don't really
  355. 12:01know what it's like.
  356. 12:01But I actually like this one.
  357. 12:03MUSIC: Before the stars come out at night.
  358. 12:05ABBY LEE MILLER: Uh uh. Uh uh.
  359. 12:06You're going to the corner.
  360. 12:07Wake up.
  361. 12:08MADDIE ZIEGLER (VOICEOVER): I'm nervous to compete
  362. 12:10against Chloe again because she's a really good dancer,
  363. 12:13but I'm not intimidated by anyone.
  364. 12:16MUSIC: Fabulous.
  365. 12:17Oh, oh.
  366. 12:19ABBY LEE MILLER: That's enough for tonight.
  367. 12:21MELISSA GISONI: Maddie and Chloe are always
  368. 12:22competing against one another.
  369. 12:23They both want to win first place and say,
  370. 12:25I won first place and you didn't.
  371. 12:27But Maddie is definitely dancing at a higher level
  372. 12:31than she did last year.
  373. 12:32She has a good opportunity at this competition.
  374. 12:34[suspenseful music]
  375. 12:36[MUSIC - KADIE HODGES, "DON'T CATCH ME.]
  376. 12:38This week I'm doing a solo called Don't Catch Me,
  377. 12:41and it's lyrical, and I really like it.
  378. 12:43MUSIC: Don't catch me now.
  379. 12:47This week, Maddie and I are competing in the same age
  380. 12:50category, and I have a lot of confidence in myself
  381. 12:53because I'm doing a lyrical routine
  382. 12:55and she's doing a jazz routine.
  383. 12:57I think I have a good chance of winning.
  384. 12:59MUSIC: Keep on falling.
  385. 13:03I think that Chloe can out-dance Maddie.
  386. 13:05I think she is going to give her a run for her money.
  387. 13:09[suspenseful music]
  388. 13:11Tomorrow we're leaving for competition.
  389. 13:13We have 45 minutes to work on this dance, and that's it.
  390. 13:16You will be on stage.
  391. 13:17Understood?
  392. 13:18All right, let's go.
  393. 13:19[music playing]
  394. 13:22Head up.
  395. 13:23Kendall, you're right behind Chloe.
  396. 13:24You should be beyond her.
  397. 13:27Stop!
  398. 13:28Where's Brooke?
  399. 13:33I'm really not sure if Brooke wants
  400. 13:35to be part of our group still.
  401. 13:36She'll sometimes say, I hate dance.
  402. 13:39Depends what day it is.
  403. 13:40I think that's what being a teenager is all about.
  404. 13:43Hello ladies.
  405. 13:45DANCE MOMS: Hi!
  406. 13:47Well, we filled Holly in.
  407. 13:49I'm shocked just finding out that Brooke isn't going
  408. 13:52to be here for this number, and I know Abby doesn't know that,
  409. 13:55and I can only imagine once Abby finds out,
  410. 13:58she is going to lose it.
  411. 14:00Oh!
  412. 14:02She's gonna be really mad.
  413. 14:04I've never seen you back down to Abby.
  414. 14:06Absolutely.
  415. 14:08Maddie, turn the leg out!
  416. 14:11What is wrong with you?
  417. 14:13Oh my God.
  418. 14:14You better get down there before it gets worse.
  419. 14:16Brooke!
  420. 14:17KELLY HYLAND: What's she yelling?
  421. 14:18- Uh oh, she's calling Brooke. - Brooke!
  422. 14:19Brooke!
  423. 14:21We have a standing rule for our competition team members:
  424. 14:24you must be present at the rehearsal
  425. 14:27before the competition.
  426. 14:29So whatever that final rehearsal is,
  427. 14:31the last time we run that number,
  428. 14:33that's how we're going to do it on stage.
  429. 14:35Let me go find out where Brooke is.
  430. 14:37I'm going to chew her mother out.
  431. 14:39Kelly?
  432. 14:40Yeah?
  433. 14:41ABBY LEE MILLER: I need to know what's going on with Brooke.
  434. 14:45You're too high.
  435. 14:46Don't pick them up that high.
  436. 14:47Where is Brooke?
  437. 14:48Well, that's what I want to talk to you about.
  438. 14:50I don't think she's coming this weekend.
  439. 14:52[intensifying music]
  440. 14:55We had a long discussion, and there's something that came up
  441. 14:58at school that she wants to do.
  442. 15:01And I'm going to allow her to do it.
  443. 15:03Uh oh.
  444. 15:03Wait a second.
  445. 15:05Uh huh.
  446. 15:06So she's out.
  447. 15:07You're making a decision for me and for everybody
  448. 15:10in this group.
  449. 15:11You're letting a 13-year-old kid dictate
  450. 15:14my future and their future.
  451. 15:17But I'm letting my 13-year-old dictate her future.
  452. 15:21She knew when she was at the top of the pyramid.
  453. 15:23And this is where it's bad parenting, Kelly.
  454. 15:26She should have opened her mouth and said, Abby, let somebody
  455. 15:29else be at the top of the pyramid this week.
  456. 15:30That Is a mature 13-year-old.
  457. 15:34Not screwing everybody and stabbing them in the back.
  458. 15:37But I don't think she's screwing any of them.
  459. 15:39She's screwing me.
  460. 15:40I can feel it.
  461. 15:42Uh oh.
  462. 15:43OK now she's going at it.
  463. 15:44Oh, she's pissed.
  464. 15:45You're gonna do your solo.
  465. 15:46And you're going to do a solo.
  466. 15:47You're staying home, staying home, staying home.
  467. 15:49That's it.
  468. 15:51You're dismissed.
  469. 15:51You're dismissed.
  470. 15:52You're dismissed.
  471. 15:53Run the solo.
  472. 15:54Run the solo.
  473. 15:55Get the senior company in here.
  474. 15:56Let's go.
  475. 15:57Thank you, Kelly.
  476. 15:58So in true Abby spirit, she has decided
  477. 16:00to handle the situation by eliminating the group number
  478. 16:04as a whole.
  479. 16:05Can we talk to you for a moment?
  480. 16:07Certainly.
  481. 16:07OK, Thank you Abby.
  482. 16:09Well, we just wanted to clarify because we noticed
  483. 16:11that Kendall, Nia, and Paige were--
  484. 16:12ABBY LEE MILLER: Dismissed.
  485. 16:13They are dismissed.
  486. 16:15You will not be traveling this weekend.
  487. 16:17Well, Melissa and I aren't going for a solo.
  488. 16:20I do not want to go back to a competition that we won,
  489. 16:23the Nationals, without my best foot forward.
  490. 16:26We're trying to stand behind Brooke in her decision and we--
  491. 16:30Well, I think you're an [bleep] You're an ass.
  492. 16:34Why would you stand behind Brooke in her decision?
  493. 16:35Because- because--
  494. 16:37You're teaching a kid to break a contract.
  495. 16:38No.
  496. 16:39Yes, you are.
  497. 16:41No, we're teaching our kids that you support your friends.
  498. 16:43Well, when your kid gets a full scholarship to Harvard
  499. 16:45and Brooke's going to community college like her mother,
  500. 16:48go with her and support your friends.
  501. 16:50Christi opens her mouth.
  502. 16:52Oh well, we support her decision.
  503. 16:55Yeah, because you want your kid to get the lead, Christi.
  504. 16:58We know!
  505. 16:58We know how you work.
  506. 17:00That feels ridiculous.
  507. 17:01We're saying we're a team.
  508. 17:03Well, you can go be a team at another dance studio,
  509. 17:05because at this studio, it's my way or the highway.
  510. 17:09[suspenseful music]
  511. 17:16CHRISTI ZOOK LUKASIAK: We're saying that we're a team, and--
  512. 17:19Well, you can go be a team in another dance studio,
  513. 17:21because at this studio, it's my way or the highway.
  514. 17:23That's it.
  515. 17:24I've made up my mind.
  516. 17:26If we can't walk in there national champions
  517. 17:28with a number that I know can win, then I don't want to go.
  518. 17:32So, we are the National winners.
  519. 17:34I don't want to tarnish that reputation.
  520. 17:36Maddie is their national title winner.
  521. 17:38I don't want her to look bad.
  522. 17:40And Gianna is going to go.
  523. 17:41My name will not be on the number.
  524. 17:43So first it was, the group was not going.
  525. 17:45Now the group is going, but the group can only
  526. 17:47go if her name is removed and she's not
  527. 17:50doing any choreography.
  528. 17:52And that's the ultimate slap in the face for the girls.
  529. 17:54Gianna is willing to come in tomorrow morning
  530. 17:57and rehearse for four hours before you get on the bus.
  531. 17:59The mothers have made it quite clear
  532. 18:01that they think that their kids are amazing
  533. 18:03with or without Brooke.
  534. 18:04If Gianna wants to get up in the morning
  535. 18:06and come here and work on this number, that's fine.
  536. 18:09Because I cannot let Brooke hold back these other dancers.
  537. 18:14I would never let my child shake her pompoms for some boy
  538. 18:19to go to college for free.
  539. 18:20I know that, Abby, and I need her to make that decision
  540. 18:22on her own.
  541. 18:24You make a commitment in the beginning of the year,
  542. 18:25you see it through til the end of the year.
  543. 18:27If you don't want to do it again next year, that's fine.
  544. 18:30There's integrity there.
  545. 18:32Brooke should have come and told me.
  546. 18:34Would I have been angry?
  547. 18:35Yes, but it would have been the right move
  548. 18:38on her part and her parents.
  549. 18:41Enough said.
  550. 18:41[suspenseful music]
  551. 18:46[MUSIC - NIKKO LOWE - "SENTIMENTAL"]
  552. 18:47GIANNA: In, out.
  553. 18:48Releve.
  554. 18:49Leg high.
  555. 18:50I don't really think it's that stressful not having Brooke.
  556. 18:53She finally got a chance to be like the star of the group
  557. 18:57dance.
  558. 18:58And now I feel bad because I'm doing it.
  559. 19:02I feel bad that Brooke has to make this decision,
  560. 19:05but I'll support her any way she wants
  561. 19:08to go because she's my sister.
  562. 19:10Thank you, Gia.
  563. 19:11Where did you want our tag?
  564. 19:12Keep believing this, Abby.
  565. 19:14We can pull it off and we'll win, still.
  566. 19:16[inspirational music]
  567. 19:18Hey, girls!
  568. 19:19How was rehearsal?
  569. 19:20Gianna leading the troops.
  570. 19:22I arrive at the studio to go on the bus.
  571. 19:24There's no Abby.
  572. 19:25I'm feeling pretty relaxed.
  573. 19:28This could work out OK.
  574. 19:30Move that bus!
  575. 19:30[laughing]
  576. 19:31Move that bus!
  577. 19:33But why can't you let me sit?
  578. 19:35Mom, come back through.
  579. 19:37[screaming]
  580. 19:38[dramatic music]
  581. 19:39Wait, Abby's here!
  582. 19:40MELISSA GISONI: No way!
  583. 19:43Oh my gosh!
  584. 19:44MADDIE ZIEGLER: Pretend you're sleeping!
  585. 19:45[yelling]
  586. 19:48Oh, why's she here?
  587. 19:50Oh, that just ruined my weekend.
  588. 19:52Give me your [inaudible].
  589. 19:52Hello, everybody.
  590. 19:53Hi Ab.
  591. 19:55I have decided to go because you have no idea what it's
  592. 19:59going to be like in New Jersey, number one.
  593. 20:01I really didn't want to get on the bus,
  594. 20:04but I could not throw Gianna to the wolves.
  595. 20:06She does not deserve that.
  596. 20:08Kelly is not here?
  597. 20:11You really know what person is important in your house,
  598. 20:13don't you?
  599. 20:15Those feelings of euphoria were short-lived.
  600. 20:18What a way to start a trip.
  601. 20:22ABBY LEE MILLER: Bus driver Jim!
  602. 20:24Are we there yet?
  603. 20:27- --I think right there. - What do you want to do, like--
  604. 20:28- Just put a line. - Like here?
  605. 20:30Yep.
  606. 20:31MELISSA GISONI: This is Cathy from Candy Apple that's
  607. 20:32calling me.
  608. 20:33ABBY LEE MILLER: No!
  609. 20:34JILL VERTES: No!
  610. 20:35No way!
  611. 20:36MELISSA GISONI: Second time.
  612. 20:37ABBY LEE MILLER: Do not give her any information.
  613. 20:39Why is she calling you?
  614. 20:40That is so unethical.
  615. 20:42Hi!
  616. 20:43How often does she call her?
  617. 20:45Melissa gets this phone call from Cathy of all people.
  618. 20:47Why does Cathy have your number?
  619. 20:53OK.
  620. 20:54Sounds good.
  621. 20:55I can't believe that Melissa is talking to her like that.
  622. 21:03MELISSA GISONI: Are you going to a competition?
  623. 21:10MELISSA GISONI: Oh, you are.
  624. 21:12I am livid because Cathy's on her way to New Jersey,
  625. 21:14and she's going to show up again with these older kids who
  626. 21:18are more Brooke's age than they are Maddie's age.
  627. 21:21And Brooke won't be there.
  628. 21:23MELISSA GISONI: OK.
  629. 21:24Bye!
  630. 21:25ABBY LEE MILLER: Do not let her know that Brooke is not
  631. 21:28in this number, because she will have a field day with that.
  632. 21:31Of all weeks for Brooke to go for cheerleading tryouts,
  633. 21:34you know the Candy Apples, they're coming for blood.
  634. 21:36They want to beat us.
  635. 21:37And this may be an opportunity for them
  636. 21:39because we were blocked getting on the bus.
  637. 21:42I hate to say it, but this could be Cathy's week.
  638. 21:45I'm telling you one thing.
  639. 21:46That Candy Appple lady, I don't care what she does.
  640. 21:49She better not beat you.
  641. 21:50Because you think I'm mad at Brooke now, just wait.
  642. 21:53If that woman wins, Brooke's hide'll
  643. 21:55be hanging off the top of that balcony at that studio.
  644. 21:57[suspenseful music]
  645. 22:03[energetic music]
  646. 22:05ABBY LEE MILLER: We're traveling to Starbound in Nutley, New
  647. 22:07Jersey.
  648. 22:08[inaudible]
  649. 22:10We are the reigning national winners.
  650. 22:12That's what we won at Lake Tahoe.
  651. 22:13There are people at Starbound who are expecting to see more.
  652. 22:18Ready to do some dancing?
  653. 22:20ABBY LEE MILLER: We need to walk in there
  654. 22:21and show them that we've grown.
  655. 22:23So there's a lot at stake.
  656. 22:25Want her to wear those?
  657. 22:26OK.
  658. 22:26Perfect.
  659. 22:30HOLLY FRAZIER: I think it looks nice and sophisticated plain.
  660. 22:32Thank you.
  661. 22:33All right, girls, remember, this is Starbound.
  662. 22:35You are their national winners.
  663. 22:38You can't be any less than that, do you understand?
  664. 22:41Remember, Brooke never existed.
  665. 22:43They have no idea we're missing a dancer.
  666. 22:45We cannot and will not have little mistakes like that.
  667. 22:50You cannot afford it this weekend.
  668. 22:52Does everyone--
  669. 22:53The pressure on the girls this week is tremendous.
  670. 22:55They're going to need a back brace by the end of the week
  671. 22:57with all the pressure Abby is putting on their shoulders.
  672. 22:59Like, you must win.
  673. 23:00You must be fabulous. You must be.
  674. 23:01You must be.
  675. 23:01You must be.
  676. 23:03We have our nemesis here again this week.
  677. 23:08How did that happen?
  678. 23:10Boo.
  679. 23:10The Abby Lee Dance Company.
  680. 23:12Boo.
  681. 23:13We cannot get beat by a hokeypokey number again.
  682. 23:16It's just not going to be good for us.
  683. 23:19Do not talk to them backstage.
  684. 23:21Do not let her psych you out.
  685. 23:24So, lucky us, we get to see those Candy Apples again.
  686. 23:27I'm not going to start anything with Cathy,
  687. 23:29but certainly if Cathy starts with me,
  688. 23:31I'm not backing down from Cathy.
  689. 23:32JILL VERTES: I just don't appreciate all the low blows
  690. 23:34she did with MacKenzie.
  691. 23:35She did low blows with Chloe.
  692. 23:37She's a low blower.
  693. 23:38Like, if- if my nose is so--
  694. 23:40She's a low blower!
  695. 23:41She is a low blower.
  696. 23:43Is Mackenzie ready?
  697. 23:44ABBY LEE MILLER: Yes, Mackenzie's ready.
  698. 23:46Straight legs, pointed feet, shoulders down.
  699. 23:48If you forget, stay backstage.
  700. 23:50Don't come out.
  701. 23:51Because I'm going to chop your head off.
  702. 23:53[crowd cheering]
  703. 23:54[intense music]
  704. 23:58I'm very nervous that MacKenzie's
  705. 24:00going to forget her solo on stage,
  706. 24:02and I don't think she's just going to ad lib.
  707. 24:04I think she'll just run off the stage if she forgets.
  708. 24:10There's one part in my dance that's really hard.
  709. 24:12It's a round of back handspring.
  710. 24:14I'm going to show everyone that I'm the best.
  711. 24:17ANNOUNCER: [inaudible] next up to the stage.
  712. 24:18Ages 7 and 8, number 321.
  713. 24:21[intense music]
  714. 24:23[music playing]
  715. 24:58[crowd cheering]
  716. 25:02MacKenzie nailed her side aerials
  717. 25:05and, you know, she nailed that back handspring, too.
  718. 25:07So she's really come a long way in a short amount of time.
  719. 25:11You know, ladies, that this row was reserved for us, just
  720. 25:14FYI.
  721. 25:15You were supposed to have this row
  722. 25:16and we were supposed to have this row.
  723. 25:17Well, until I see a plate on the back of this chair
  724. 25:20with your name on it that you bought it, I'm not moving.
  725. 25:22MACKENZIE ZIEGLER (VOICEOVER): I guess
  726. 25:23I'm having more confidence in myself, because backstage
  727. 25:27I'm not as nervous anymore.
  728. 25:30My nerves are more settled.
  729. 25:31I just go over the dance and kind of have fun.
  730. 25:35This week, I think I'm going to be [inaudible]..

  788. 28:43Oh, oh.
  789. 28:44[crowd clapping]
  790. 28:48Maddie looked like the entertainment that was paid,

  808. 29:13[inaudible] You noticed, Justice?
  809. 29:15Yeah, well maybe they're realizing
  810. 29:17that Abby isn't the spectacular end-all that she claims to be.

  824. 29:47CHEER TRYOUT COACH: Pick it up!
  825. 29:48If Abby didn't treat Brooke the way
  826. 29:50she treats her all the time, and knocked her down year

  828. 29:55want to do cheerleading.
  829. 29:56Number 3, may I see your jump?
  830. 30:00Thank you.

  848. 30:40If I don't make the cheer team,

  850. 30:44down.
  851. 30:46All right girls, these are the girls who made it.
  852. 30:47You are just going to stand up when you make it.

  860. 31:11I'm so excited to get my uniform and pompoms.
  861. 31:13Girls that made it, congratulations.
  862. 31:15We're going to have a great year.
  863. 31:16Are you excited? - Yeah.
  864. 31:17CHEER TRYOUT COACH: OK.
  865. 31:18You have a lot to learn.
  866. 31:19I am so happy for Brooke.
  867. 31:21She really deserves this.
  868. 31:22But another part of me is upset because she's walking away
  869. 31:26from something that has been part of her entire life.
  870. 31:34[intense music]
  871. 31:35ANNOUNCER: The top Junior petite soloist today,
  872. 31:40it's going to 321!
  873. 31:41Bigger isn't better!
  874. 31:43It's Makenzie from Abby Lee Dance!
  875. 31:48MacKenzie won her age division, seven to eight.
  876. 31:50My little girl did fabulous.
  877. 31:52You excited?
  878. 31:53Yeah.
  879. 31:54I felt great when they said that the winner is me.
  880. 31:58I think I'm going to win a lot of complications like Maddie.
  881. 32:02McKenzie has definitely improved this year,
  882. 32:04and she wants to dance.
  883. 32:06That's what's making all the difference in the world.
  884. 32:08ANNOUNCER: Top 10 Junior Soloists.
  885. 32:11Third place.
  886. 32:15324, "Lights, Camera, Action" from Abby Lee.
  887. 32:22Maddie came in third place this week.
  888. 32:23She was actually flawless.
  889. 32:25Something was definitely off with these judges.
  890. 32:28I definitely think she was gypped.
  891. 32:30ANNOUNCER: Second place, Junior Soloist.
  892. 32:35"If You Believe."
  893. 32:36It's Eunice from Dancers in Motion.
  894. 32:39[cheering]
  895. 32:41ANNOUNCER: Our top soloist, it's Chloe from Abby Lee Dance!
  896. 32:47[cheering]
  897. 32:49Chloe came in first, and it was just such a proud moment
  898. 32:54for me.
  899. 32:55It really was.
  900. 32:56I've wanted that for her.
  901. 32:57I've wanted her to just believe in herself.
  902. 33:00And it was such a good feeling.
  903. 33:02This is based on dancing.
  904. 33:04And Chloe danced the best today.
  905. 33:07How do you feel about that score?
  906. 33:08Awesome.
  907. 33:10It felt really good to get overall first place.
  908. 33:12There was a lot of good girls at the competition,
  909. 33:15so I was really surprised and happy at the same time.
  910. 33:19I really don't care that Chloe beat Maddie.
  911. 33:22I am not pissed that she didn't win.
  912. 33:24She won in my eyes.
  913. 33:26But Abby told me the reason she didn't win
  914. 33:28was because she looked professional.
  915. 33:30She didn't look like the amateurs that
  916. 33:32were dancing against her.
  917. 33:33ANNOUNCER: Take a bow for your audience.
  918. 33:35ABBY LEE MILLER: Maddie was pretty amazing.
  919. 33:37Chloe screwed up this big turn section that she
  920. 33:40does to lunge on the floor.
  921. 33:41I want Chloe to have confidence, but I want that confidence
  922. 33:45to come from within, not from winning trophies.
  923. 33:47[cheering]
  924. 33:53[suspenseful music]
  925. 33:59Girls, come here.
  926. 34:00Now, listen to me.
  927. 34:02I wasn't going to come because I was so
  928. 34:04aggravated with this routine.
  929. 34:05Not only do you have to prove Brooke wrong,
  930. 34:07that she's worthless and doesn't mean anything,
  931. 34:10everyone's replaceable.
  932. 34:11The way I choreographed the routine is the way it should
  933. 34:14have been competed.
  934. 34:16We all make choices.
  935. 34:17And we have to live with those choices.
  936. 34:19So let's go.
  937. 34:22Thank you.
  938. 34:23[inaudible] stage.
  939. 34:24You're ready to head backstage and warm up backstage,
  940. 34:25all right? - OK.
  941. 34:26Just stay clean.
  942. 34:29CANDY APPLE DANCER: You guys did good.
  943. 34:30Good job.
  944. 34:32I think the Candy Apples would do pretty good this week
  945. 34:35because last week their group number was pretty good.
  946. 34:38I'm a little worried about them at the competition,
  947. 34:40but I'm just going to hope for the best, do my best,
  948. 34:43and see what happens.
  949. 34:45ANNOUNCER: Next up, number 460, Mermaids.
  950. 34:50[cheering]
  951. 34:57[music playing]
  952. 35:30Candy Apples turned into mermaids.
  953. 35:32Jumped, kicked, leaped, turned.
  954. 35:33Jumped, kicked, leaped, turned.
  955. 35:34[inaudible] on.
  956. 35:35[inaudible] off.
  957. 35:36Same old, same old.
  958. 35:37[music playing]
  959. 35:48[cheering]
  960. 35:50I just hope that the judges realize that Vivianne was used
  961. 35:54as a human prop to bring the age level down,
  962. 35:56and those girls should not be competing in 9 and 10.
  963. 36:00I'm very confident that we get to compete against Candy
  964. 36:03Apples.
  965. 36:04I have no fears.
  966. 36:05I want to show them what we've got.
  967. 36:11[music playing]
  968. 36:13WOMAN: (SINGING) What would you do if I told you
  969. 36:20I just knew, that somehow you changed me in some special way?
  970. 36:34Would you say I was silly?
  971. 36:41A sentimental fool?
  972. 36:44Or would you say I was hoping and praying
  973. 36:54for someone like you?
  974. 37:08I guess that's just something, something that I'll never know.
  975. 37:22[cheering]
  976. 37:29This group went to a competition
  977. 37:31with a routine that was designed specifically to feature Brooke,
  978. 37:35and that group succeeded without her.
  979. 37:37Check this out- Junior Groups.
  980. 37:41Candy Apples isn't going to beat us.
  981. 37:43They're not taking us down.
  982. 37:45We're taking them down.
  983. 37:46Eighth place, with a score of 279,
  984. 37:50it's the Mermaid's, Candy Apples Dance.
  985. 37:55[music playing]

  987. 38:02Top overall Junior group, Born to Dance, Abby Lee Dance
  988. 38:07Company.
  989. 38:09Make some noise!
  990. 38:12[cheering]
  991. 38:15Born to Dance won the entire thing.
  992. 38:19So we not only beat Cathy and her Candy Apples,
  993. 38:22but we also beat everybody else that was at the competition
  994. 38:25at Nutley, New Jersey.
  995. 38:26Tell everybody what studio you're from.
  996. 38:29Abby Lee Dance Company!
  997. 38:32There is your top junior overall group.
  998. 38:35Take one more bow for your audience.
  999. 38:37Thank you very much, ladies.
  1000. 38:39[cheering]
  1001. 38:44[excitedly screaming]
  1002. 38:46Yay, girls!
  1003. 38:48Woohoo!
1004. 38:51Cathy was sitting right behind me.
1005. 38:54She did not know what to do.
1006. 38:55Abby, did she congratulate you?
1007. 38:57She never said congratulations to me.
1008. 38:59So as a sign of good sportsmanship, come on,
1009. 39:01we're going to go tell her that our kids did a great job.
1010. 39:04I went to the dressing room to see Cathy because I want
  1011. 39:08the bee costume back.
  1012. 39:10Hello!
1013. 39:13All right, we just wanted to tell you all congratulations.
1014. 39:16I thought you did a great job.
  1015. 39:18I don't know what happened.
1016. 39:19But anyway, do you have my bee costume?
1017. 39:22You mean, hold on, the ugly bee costume that Vivi wore?
1018. 39:26Yes. It was her first solo.
1019. 39:27I gave it to the Goodwill.
  1020. 39:32That was $300.
  1021. 39:33Bill me.
  1022. 39:34It's a memory.
  1023. 39:35It's irreplaceable.
1024. 39:37Listen, disco ball, I'm not talking to you today.
1025. 39:40This is between Abby and I, so pipe down.
  1026. 39:42You need--
  1027. 39:43Disco ball.
1028. 39:44Cathy is just a rude, mean little woman.
  1029. 39:47She is a nasty, old bat.
1030. 39:50By the way, Christi, Whoville called
1031. 39:52and they want your nose back.
1032. 39:54Oh my God, Cathy, listen.
1033. 39:55When you have a better insult, something that is--
1034. 39:58I'm not listening to you anymore.
1035. 39:59When you have a better insult that's at least--
1036. 40:01Please, get out of my face.
1037. 40:02Oh, no, I'll get right in your face.
  1038. 40:04Oh no you won't, disco ball.
  1039. 40:06Bring it, bitch.
1040. 40:07You know, that's wonderful that you talk like that
1041. 40:10in front of your kids, but we don't talk like that in front
1042. 40:12of ours, do we, moms?
  1043. 40:13I know.
1044. 40:14Well, you know what, Cathy?
1045. 40:16The dog pound is calling.
1046. 40:17- Move along. - Oh my God.
1047. 40:18Do not put your hands on me.
1048. 40:19Get out of my face.
1049. 40:21Your Payless shoes need to walk out of here.
1050. 40:23Oh my God, all you care about is money.
1051. 40:25I'm not talking about money!
1052. 40:26Oh my God, that's all you talk about.
  1053. 40:28You obviously a complexity issue.
1054. 40:31I'm talking about style, and you have none.
1055. 40:33Take your hand off of me.
  1056. 40:34You know what?
1057. 40:35Take your hand off of me.
1058. 40:37Cathy brought that icy cold, bony little hand around me.
1059. 40:41It was like the grim reaper was holding onto my wrist.
  1060. 40:43Ugh.
  1061. 40:44Move along, disco ball.
1062. 40:46Oh my God, you wish!
1063. 40:48Guess what, Cathy, you can't beat us.
  1064. 40:50So go home.
  1065. 40:51Stop trying.
  1066. 40:52Give up.
  1067. 40:52[dramatic music]
