1. 0:00the news of the week is uh that the
2. 0:02major league baseball
3. 0:03has uh pulled the all-star game out of
4. 0:06uh georgia and put it in
5. 0:08uh to colorado you know brett you've
6. 0:11been out of the game
7. 0:12i think it's 10 years since you retired
8. 0:15right and
9. 0:16are you surprised to see sports in
10. 0:19general becoming this political
11. 0:21yeah and i think uh both sides
12. 0:26for the most part want to see it
13. 0:29just remain about the sport
14. 0:33not about politics uh at least that's my
15. 0:37interpretation i i know when i turn on a
16. 0:40game
17. 0:42i want to watch a game i want to watch
18. 0:44players play
19. 0:45and teams win
20. 0:49lose uh come from behind i want to watch
21. 0:51all the
22. 0:53you know the important parts to the game
23. 0:55not what's going on
24. 0:57outside of the game and i think the the
25. 1:00general
26. 1:01fan uh feels the same way
27. 1:05you know you were always known as a big
28. 1:07locker room guy
29. 1:08a leader of men type you played
30. 1:12look so many of the great american
31. 1:14athletes are are black guys
32. 1:16you played with some of the greats
33. 1:17reggie white and antonio friedman and
34. 1:19all this
35. 1:20when you were in the locker room was
36. 1:22this was there the kind of tension
37. 1:23there now seems to be i mean a lot of
38. 1:25the politics as american politics always
39. 1:27does it revolves around race
40. 1:28did you see that in the locker room when
41. 1:30you were playing absolutely not
42. 1:32in fact that was sort of the
43. 1:35um our protected space if you will
44. 1:40um where we could kind of let our guard
45. 1:43down
46. 1:44um we were we were in something together
47. 1:47we fought together we won together we
48. 1:49lost together
49. 1:51um and we we truly were a family
50. 1:54um so yeah
51. 1:58to answer your question we we absolutely
52. 2:00didn't have
53. 2:02issues that i i i don't know what issues
54. 2:05there
55. 2:06if any in the locker room that they're
56. 2:08facing now other than what
57. 2:11i hear or assumptions so um
58. 2:15if there are problems within the locker
59. 2:17room uh you know that's too bad
60. 2:21yeah eric you know you you've obviously
61. 2:23made your name as a commentator but you
62. 2:25were a big
63. 2:26uh financial guy you started out in in
64. 2:28the financial world
65. 2:30is this all part i mean the nfl is big
66. 2:32business is this all part of
67. 2:33andrew this is i started on baseball
68. 2:37first i was
69. 2:37playing for the pirates and then went
70. 2:39into into business world and i got into
71. 2:41politics and
72. 2:42and unfortunately politics is now
73. 2:44overriding everything
74. 2:46sports used to be uh you kind of used to
75. 2:48be a a firewall that
76. 2:50whatever happened in dc in in this
77. 2:52political world never
78. 2:53made it over the firewall into the
79. 2:55stadium it's what's going on
80. 2:57right now
81. 2:57rob manfred the major league baseball
82. 2:59commissioner pulled
83. 3:00the all-star game remember the all-star
84. 3:02game means
85. 3:04guys coming from all over the country it
86. 3:06means tourism will come to the to the
87. 3:08area wherever the all-star game is being
88. 3:10played a hundred million dollars in
89. 3:11revenue
90. 3:12is going to be pulled from cobb county
91. 3:14georgia because of that one
92. 3:16move of of rob manfred and we just found
93. 3:19out today that
94. 3:20the likely new stadium that they're
95. 3:22going to play the all-star game in is
96. 3:23going to be in denver colorado
97. 3:25look at the two voting rights this is an
98. 3:27issue over voting rights that manfred is
99. 3:29caving to the cancel
100. 3:30culture mob over voting rights in
101. 3:33colorado
102. 3:33are more restrictive than they are in
103. 3:35georgia where manfred is pulling the
104. 3:37major league baseball game out of
105. 3:39the other issue marco rubio yesterday
106. 3:41wrote a letter and it was
107. 3:42terrific like him or not i'm not a huge
108. 3:45fan of marco rubio i think he's a little
109. 3:46bit too
110. 3:47right fake conservative i'm a real
111. 3:50conservative
112. 3:51don't like him but he wrote a letter to
113. 3:52directed to to
114. 3:54mlb commissioners saying by the way you
115. 3:56pulled the game out of the state of
116. 3:58georgia over there voting for new voting
117. 4:00rights law
118. 4:01are you sir rob going to pull yourself
119. 4:04out of
120. 4:04the augusta national golf course because
121. 4:06you're a member there so
122. 4:08if you have a problem with georgia with
123. 4:10the w in sport and
124. 4:11in kind of promoting sports in georgia
125. 4:13which you represent mlb
126. 4:15how about you you live you you walk the
127. 4:18walk next to
128. 4:18not just talk the talk well this is the
129. 4:21strange thing to me i mean i've been an
130. 4:22nfl fan for
131. 4:24well as long as i can remember and this
132. 4:26this year is the first year i could not
133. 4:28bring myself to watch a game because of
134. 4:29the politics
135. 4:31you know brett you you actually caused
136. 4:32some controversy when you tweeted at one
137. 4:35point that you were going to vote for
138. 4:36donald trump it all seems to be on one
139. 4:37side
140. 4:38uh you said both sides and and i can
141. 4:40understand that but it all seems to be
142. 4:42i mean it's controversial for you to
143. 4:44support donald trump but it's not
144. 4:45controversial for
145. 4:46teams to for instance kneel during the
146. 4:49national anthem
147. 4:50doesn't it seem that it all goes one way
148. 4:54absolutely it's very lopsided and
149. 4:56whatever happened to
150. 4:58um you know uh
151. 5:03your ideas your thoughts your beliefs
152. 5:06being yours
153. 5:08and not wrong
154. 5:11that that's that's that seems a distant
155. 5:14past
156. 5:15um you know i think the people who know
157. 5:17me in fact i know
158. 5:19the people who know me players that i
159. 5:21played with especially those who i
160. 5:23played with for
161. 5:24quite a long time black and white
162. 5:27hispanic
163. 5:28um family and friends would would
164. 5:30certainly
165. 5:31uh attest to it as well that uh
166. 5:36you know by no means or any others
167. 5:38perfect
168. 5:39but um
169. 5:42you know i'm the furthest thing from a
170. 5:46racist
171. 5:47um i think i'm a pretty good guy who
172. 5:51who you know cares about other people as
173. 5:54well
174. 5:55and you know i i knew that it was going
175. 5:58to create a firestorm
176. 6:00um by first of all playing golf with the
177. 6:02president which i thought was an
178. 6:03honor regardless of who that president
179. 6:06is
180. 6:07um and and by tweeting um
181. 6:11my support for then president trump i
182. 6:14knew that that would create some
183. 6:16some more issues but you know
184. 6:19again i go back to the people who know
185. 6:21me know me and uh
186. 6:23would would speak on on my behalf in a
187. 6:26positive light
188. 6:28and you know
189. 6:31i i really don't worry about it a whole
190. 6:33lot but
191. 6:34i mean it's a shame it's really a shame
192. 6:38uh that we've come to this
193. 6:41um but you know what the old saying it
194. 6:44is what it is
195. 6:46you know i just find it tough i got to
196. 6:48be honest the thing that i found really
197. 6:50tough was the stuff about the national
198. 6:51anthem and the flag
199. 6:53uh you know i understand we all
200. 6:55understand there are always problems in
201. 6:57our country and we got to talk to one
202. 6:58another and work them out
203. 6:59but the flag is kind of what unites us
204. 7:02all and it's sort of
205. 7:03absolutely i mean do you do you find
206. 7:06this to be
207. 7:07when you talk to players when you talk
208. 7:08to guys
209. 7:10does anybody feel that this is a good
210. 7:11thing that that there should be
211. 7:13anti-national anthem
212. 7:15protest i
213. 7:18i personally have not really
214. 7:21had an in-depth conversation with any
215. 7:24present player
216. 7:25or for that matter former players or
217. 7:29teammates
218. 7:31you know it's it's it's been talked
219. 7:33about more
220. 7:34in passing um i i guess the jury is out
221. 7:39on whether or not
222. 7:40it will be a good thing or not
223. 7:43i think it's created more turmoil than
224. 7:47good um but i andrew i i
225. 7:51agree with you 100 i think something has
226. 7:54to unite us
227. 7:56and the game or games uh or sport
228. 8:01in in the past has been some kind of a
229. 8:03unification
230. 8:05um now it's almost like a division um
231. 8:08i can't tell you how many people uh
232. 8:10including yourself have
233. 8:12said to me i don't watch anymore um
234. 8:15it it it's not about the game anymore
235. 8:18and
236. 8:19i tend to agree um
237. 8:22you know again it's a shame
238. 8:25it's too too bad you know but um
239. 8:30you know like you said you know there's
240. 8:32there's there's
241. 8:34differences always there's always been
242. 8:36differences
243. 8:37um there's always been issues within the
244. 8:40world within the country within our
245. 8:42states
246. 8:43um but again something has to unify us
247. 8:46and
248. 8:48i i felt like the flag standing
249. 8:51patriotically because blacks and whites
250. 8:54and hispanics have fought for this
251. 8:56country
252. 8:57have died for this country um
253. 9:00and um it is too bad
254. 9:05eric you know you guys have this uh
255. 9:07podcast uh bowling with favre
256. 9:09great name by the way but uh you know
257. 9:11you and you talk about trying to
258. 9:13to keep it light trying to find the
259. 9:14funny things and the good things about
260. 9:16sports
261. 9:16are you finding that difficult i mean
262. 9:18even when you were speaking before you
263. 9:19sound like
264. 9:20i can hear this there's anger there i
265. 9:22feel it too
266. 9:23is it hard to enjoy sports at this point
267. 9:25or do you still find a way in
268. 9:27you know we we still find there's a lot
269. 9:29of fun stories still in sports and
270. 9:31you know brett is so right when when you
271. 9:34look at that flag
272. 9:36you you see red white and blue blue you
273. 9:38don't see black white brownies
274. 9:39you don't see those colors you see red
275. 9:41white and blue and people on
276. 9:43of every single race have died
277. 9:45protecting what the meaning of that flag
278. 9:47meant so it's it's just very hard to see
279. 9:50athletes disrespected i come from an age
280. 9:52and i think everyone here comes from an
281. 9:54age where
282. 9:55it didn't matter on the sports field
283. 9:56what color you were if you were the best
284. 9:58pitcher you're the best quarterback
285. 9:59you're the best
286. 10:00third baseman you you're the best uh
287. 10:03defensive hockey player
288. 10:04doesn't matter what color you are you're
289. 10:06going to get the job and
290. 10:07unfortunately now everything is
291. 10:09everything is race
292. 10:10i mean everything how in the world that
293. 10:13we get to a world
294. 10:14where every single issue has become a
295. 10:17racial issue
296. 10:18if you uh recite the pledge of
297. 10:21allegiance it's now racist i have to
298. 10:24somehow apologize for being white
299. 10:26because of something that
300. 10:27may or may not have probably happened 50
301. 10:3070 100 years ago it's just
302. 10:32crazy i i just i'm blown away and i
303. 10:36just i'm angry right now andrew we do a
304. 10:39fun podcast we have a lot of fun we talk
305. 10:41about kardashians we talk about
306. 10:42everything that's going on we talk about
307. 10:44sports we we had dr phil on a couple
308. 10:46weeks ago
309. 10:47just had some had some fun but i have to
310. 10:49point something out because this this
311. 10:50mlb thing hits home
312. 10:52so hard to me as a former player um
313. 10:55again major league baseball took the
314. 10:58game out of atlanta which is i believe
315. 11:00i'm right in saying it's 50
316. 11:02african americans in cobb county if i'm
317. 11:04if it's not cobb county it's it's
318. 11:05atlanta
319. 11:06georgia and took and brought it into the
320. 11:09city that
321. 11:09that is in denver where the where the
322. 11:11ball field the coarse field in denver is
323. 11:13which is
324. 11:14less than 10 african american now this
325. 11:17whole thing is all about voting rights
326. 11:19and african americans believing
327. 11:20that this new georgia law will prohibit
328. 11:23african americans from getting to the
329. 11:24voting
330. 11:25booth but you're gonna you're gonna
331. 11:27punish a city that's 50
332. 11:28african-american and reward one that's
333. 11:30less than ten i think it's 9.7 percent
334. 11:33african-american it makes absolutely no
335. 11:35sense and you know i i
336. 11:37i'm going to say here for the first time
337. 11:38i'm going to say it again on tv a little
338. 11:39bit later today
339. 11:41mlb is blm black lives matter backwards
340. 11:44and that's exactly what they're doing to
