- 0:00When looking up the best password
- 0:02manager apps, four names always pop up.
- 0:04But, you don't need four password
- 0:06managers, you need one that suits you
- 0:08the most. That's why in this Bitwarden
- 0:11versus NordPass versus 1Password versus
- 0:13LastPass comparison, I'm going to break
- 0:15down all the unique elements of each
- 0:17provider and help you find the best pick
- 0:20for you.
- 0:25To have the top password managers
- 0:27compared, the best place to start is
- 0:29security. The first requirement is
- 0:31encryption. All password managers have
- 0:33this, and each is extremely secure.
- 0:36Plus, every version is end-to-end
- 0:38encrypted, meaning at no point in
- 0:40transit is your data exposed to third
- 0:42parties. However, NordPass's version,
- 0:44XChaCha20,
- 0:46is just faster. It's newer and performs
- 0:48better on mobiles and browsers. All four
- 0:50providers also maintain a zero-knowledge
- 0:53architecture by not having any access to
- 0:55user data or accounts, and independent
- 0:58audits have confirmed that for each
- 1:00provider. There's also an emergency
- 1:01access feature of some sort for each
- 1:03password manager.
- 1:05So far, everything is very similar.
- 1:07Although, differences arise when we talk
- 1:08about unique security layers. Like,
- 1:111Password is special here, since it
- 1:13combines a secret key with a master
- 1:15password to ensure that only you can log
- 1:18in to your account, while others use a
- 1:20single security key by default.
- 1:22Comparing 1Password versus Bitwarden,
- 1:24the latter has an emphasis on
- 1:26transparency thanks to its fully
- 1:27open-source apps. Transparency is vital
- 1:31when it comes to breaches, as well. But,
- 1:33most of the providers here have no prior
- 1:35breaches or leaks at all, except for
- 1:37LastPass. You might remember all the
- 1:39controversy surrounding it back in 2022.
- 1:42A long time has passed since then, so I
- 1:43am reevaluating if anything has changed.
- 1:46And if you do want to give one of these
- 1:47providers a try, check the description.
- 1:49That's where I've left links with the
- 1:51best password manager discounts. Just
- 1:52click one of them, and you'll get the
- 1:54best deal. All right, going back to the
- 1:56differences. There's a lot to say when
- 1:57it comes to the UI and design of
- 2:00password manager apps. That's because
- 2:02the only similarity here is that these
- 2:04providers have apps for all major OS and
- 2:07extensions for browsers. But how those
- 2:09look and feel, that's completely
- 2:11different. NordPass for one has a very
- 2:14clean, beginner-friendly design with a
- 2:16somewhat minimalistic UI. It's easy to
- 2:18get used to and offers clear
- 2:20explanations for features.
- 2:22Getting to the Bitwarden versus NordPass
- 2:24comparison, the former has a pretty
- 2:26sleek design as well. That said, I did
- 2:29find it less straightforward than
- 2:30NordPass. It can be a bit complicated
- 2:32for beginners. On the plus side though,
- 2:35Bitwarden has the broadest browser
- 2:37support covering even obscure browsers
- 2:39like Tor or Vivaldi.
- 2:41Going one step further to a NordPass
- 2:43versus Bitwarden versus 1Password
- 2:45comparison, we get to the real premium
- 2:47level. 1Password has a really polished
- 2:50feel. It might be a bit less
- 2:52beginner-friendly, but it makes up for
- 2:54it with an emphasis on experienced
- 2:56users, offering plenty of customization
- 2:58options and advanced settings for family
- 3:00plans. As for LastPass, I can't look at
- 3:04this UI without slight bias.
- 3:07It just looks messy and outdated at this
- 3:10point. It just hasn't had any UX
- 3:11improvement in years and it shows.
- 3:14Still, if you're looking for a
- 3:15beginner-friendly password manager with
- 3:17a polished and minimalistic UI, NordPass
- 3:20fits the bill. While more experienced
- 3:21users chasing versatility should give
- 3:241Password a try. All right, moving on
- 3:25with this four password manager
- 3:27comparison, time for essential features.
- 3:29All right, let's start with something
- 3:30all providers offer, autofill. The
- 3:33concept is easy, install the extension,
- 3:35try to log on to one of your accounts
- 3:37and have all the forms filled
- 3:39automatically. Granted, the feature
- 3:41doesn't work exactly the same. Comparing
- 3:431Password versus NordPass, the former is
- 3:46more customizable, while the latter has
- 3:48the fastest form filling. The same can
- 3:50be said about password generation. While
- 3:52you get a strong, unique password in one
- 3:54click with either provider, 1Password is
- 3:56the only one that has the most
- 3:58versatility and lets me craft the most
- 4:00memorable passphrases. Not to say that
- 4:02the other three are bad, but 1Password
- 4:05is just built [music] differently.
- 4:06Significantly fewer differences arise
- 4:08with cross-device sync, as well as
- 4:11storage options for info other than
- 4:13passwords, credit cards, personal info,
- 4:15notes, and files. It's practically the
- 4:18same thing with a slightly different
- 4:19flavor. But, if you want to use
- 4:21passkeys, the new passwordless login
- 4:24method, it's 1Password's reign once
- 4:26more. This was the first password
- 4:28manager to fully embrace passkeys, and
- 4:30it even keeps a passkeys directory,
- 4:33helping you figure out which of your
- 4:34accounts can switch to passkeys. Of
- 4:37course, Bitwarden, NordPass, and
- 4:38LastPass also support passkeys, but at
- 4:41this point, it's more like catching up.
- 4:43So, if you want the best performance
- 4:44from the most essential password manager
- 4:46features, I do think 1Password provides
- 4:49that experience, with NordPass coming as
- 4:51a close second. But, essential features
- 4:53are not the only ones that you should
- 4:54care about. There are also so-called
- 4:56extras that often shape your experience.
- 4:59For instance, password health and breach
- 5:01monitoring. These features exist to
- 5:03ensure your passwords are not outdated,
- 5:05weak, or have been found in a data
- 5:07breach somewhere on the dark web. All
- 5:09four providers offer some version of
- 5:11these features. NordPass has password
- 5:13health and data breach scanner,
- 5:151Password the Watchtower with great
- 5:17insights and analytics, Bitwarden the
- 5:20Vault Health Reports, which is a bit
- 5:22less polished than alternatives, and
- 5:24LastPass's Security Dashboard is the
- 5:27most dated option with less advanced
- 5:30insights.
- 5:31All right, moving on, we get more unique
- 5:32features per provider. Bitwarden, for
- 5:35one, allows self-hosting, letting me run
- 5:38my own server for maximum privacy and
- 5:40control. 1Password offers Travel Mode,
- 5:43letting me hide specific passwords or
- 5:45vaults while I'm abroad. So, even if I
- 5:47lose my device, no sensitive data can be
- 5:50accessed from the password manager.
- 5:51There's also a difference in how family
- 5:53features work for each provider with one
- 5:55password offering the most flexible
- 5:58family management, password sharing, and
- 6:00complete control over which data gets
- 6:02shared. As you might have noticed, one
- 6:04password offers the most additional
- 6:06features making it the most versatile
- 6:08pick. All right, now that we know
- 6:09everything each password manager offers,
- 6:11time to see if they are worth the price.
- 6:14Check this out. These are the prices
- 6:16we're dealing with and you can see right
- 6:17away that some password managers are
- 6:19more affordable than the others.
- 6:21NordPass is easily the cheapest here
- 6:23with Bitwarden and LastPass a bit ahead.
- 6:26And then 1Password is the priciest,
- 6:28which makes sense considering how many
- 6:29features it includes. Overall, NordPass
- 6:31is clearly the best price to value
- 6:33option, but for optimal versatility,
- 6:351Password is a better option, especially
- 6:38if you take a look at the specials deal.
- 6:39Just click the link in the description
- 6:41to get the best discount. All right, to
- 6:42summarize this best password manager
- 6:442026 comparison, what should you pick?
- 6:46Well, NordPass will fit most users. If
- 6:49you need an affordable password manager
- 6:51fit for beginners with plenty of
- 6:52flexible features and sleek modern UI,
- 6:54yeah, that's the pick for you.
- 6:561Password, it is better for people
- 6:57valuing customization, flexibility, and
- 7:00the most robust security. Bitwarden is
- 7:02good for people trying out self-hosting
- 7:04with open source apps and low cost. It's
- 7:06perfect for users valuing control of
- 7:08their apps. And comparing LastPass
- 7:11versus 1Password and all the other
- 7:12providers, yeah, left me frankly
- 7:14disappointed. I was willing to give it a
- 7:16second chance after the old
- 7:17controversies, but even with that, it's
- 7:19just not good enough to recommend. Which
- 7:22one do you prefer? Let me know in the
- 7:23comments and while you're there,
- 7:24consider leaving a like and a subscribe.
- 7:27Thanks for watching. Hope you made your
- 7:28choice and I'll see you in another
- 7:29video. Bye.
