  1. 0:07Mr. President, before we left off, I
  2. 0:10asked you to characterize your
  3. 0:11relationship with Mr. Epstein. I asked
  4. 0:13you if you considered him to be a
  5. 0:15friend. You said you did not. Is that
  6. 0:18right?
  7. 0:19I'd say we were friendly. We had a
  8. 0:21cordial relations, but I didn't know him
  9. 0:23well enough.
  10. 0:25Because we had almost no contact beyond
  11. 0:27what I described.
  12. 0:29At this time, I'd like to introduce what
  13. 0:31will be marked as majority exhibit 13.
  14. 0:35This is Bates marked House Oversight
  15. 0:37000126.
  16. 0:41And while it's being passed out, this is
  17. 0:43a letter from a book of letters which
  18. 0:45was for Mr.
  19. 0:46>> birthday. Jeffrey Epstein's 50th
  20. 0:48birthday. Questions.
  21. 0:51Yeah.
  22. 0:53Mr. President, do you recognize this
  23. 0:54letter?
  24. 0:56>> And for the record, does this appear to
  25. 0:58be your handwriting and signature?
  26. 1:00>> And
  27. 1:02why did you write this letter?
  28. 1:05Why did I?
  29. 1:06Because I was requested to
  30. 1:09contribute a nice letter for his
  31. 1:11birthday book.
  32. 1:13And who asked you to write the letter?
  33. 1:16I don't know. I don't remember.
  34. 1:18Would Miss Maxwell have asked you?
  35. 1:20>> know. I think maybe someone on my staff
  36. 1:22asked me.
  37. 1:25Now,
  38. 1:26there's a word that
  39. 1:29our committee has not been able to
  40. 1:30identify and in our defense, the Wall
  41. 1:33Street Journal has not been able to
  42. 1:35identify.
  43. 1:36>> Imagine being on his staff. Can you
  44. 1:37please read the letter for the record?
  45. 1:41Yes.
  46. 1:43It's reassuring, isn't it? Good luck so
  47. 1:46long across all the years
  48. 1:48of learning and knowing, adventures and
  49. 1:50errors.
  50. 1:52And still the happier childlike
  51. 1:53curiosity, the drive to make a
  52. 1:56difference and the solace of friends.
  53. 2:02Not a bad list.
  54. 2:04And because we haven't been able to
  55. 2:07identify that word until now, what did
  56. 2:09you
  57. 2:10>> Which word was it that you could not
  58. 2:11>> Solace, you couldn't
  59. 2:12>> No, no, errors.
  60. 2:14Errors.
  61. 2:17What do they all mean? Anybody who's
  62. 2:19lived 50 years
  63. 2:21and done anything has made mistakes as
  64. 2:23well as progress. Done things.
  65. 2:25But for the record, you weren't
  66. 2:26referring to errors in judgment that Mr.
  67. 2:29Epstein had related to his
  68. 2:32inappropriate activities involving you.
  69. 2:34>> Absolutely not. I knew nothing about
  70. 2:36that.
  71. 2:42Did you ever see the birthday book
  72. 2:43compiled together?
  73. 2:44I don't think so.
  74. 2:49And you mentioned previously
  75. 2:52you were friendly with Mr. Epstein.
  76. 2:56Did you typically send birthday wishes
  77. 2:59to individuals that you didn't consider
  78. 3:01be friends though?
  79. 3:04No, I I'm I send out literally hundreds
  80. 3:07and hundreds of birthday letters every
  81. 3:08year to people that have been my
  82. 3:10friends.
  83. 3:12And
  84. 3:13but if somebody's doing a special
  85. 3:16I've sent birthday letters of
  86. 3:18congratulations to people I've met two
  87. 3:20or three times.
  88. 3:21Or their 70th birthday, their 80th
  89. 3:24birthday, their you know, 50th wedding
  90. 3:27anniversary.
  91. 3:29I do it. And I found I told you I
  92. 3:32thought Epstein was
  93. 3:33interesting and curious. So I wrote a
  94. 3:36letter that I thought reflected that.
  95. 3:38Can you elaborate on what made him
  96. 3:40interesting and curious?
  97. 3:42No more than I've already said.
  98. 3:46At this time I'd like to introduce what
  99. 3:48we mark as majority exhibit 14.
  100. 3:51And while it's being handed this is an
  101. 3:53article published by the New York Times
  102. 3:55on August 5th, 2025 entitled A look
  103. 3:59inside Epstein's Manhattan lair.
  104. 4:02And once you receive the article, I will
  105. 4:04just direct your attention to page 10.
  106. 4:08Where is that? They haven't brought it
  107. 4:10yet.
  108. 4:14>> [clears throat]
  109. 4:18>> Thank you very much, gentlemen.
  110. 4:23And we're specifically
  111. 4:26looking at a framed photo on a wooden
  112. 4:29table alongside multiple other framed
  113. 4:31photos.
  114. 4:33And we're focusing on the photo in the
  115. 4:34middle,
  116. 4:36which appears to have a golden frame.
  117. 4:43What page is it? I think two more pages.
  118. 4:48Right there.
  119. 4:54Not the page with the book.
  120. 4:56Yeah, okay. I see it.
  121. 4:58Page 10? Is that what we're on? Page 10.
  122. 5:02Mr. President, do you recognize yourself
  123. 5:04in this photo? I do. And it appears that
  124. 5:07the man on the right of the photo is
  125. 5:10Jeffrey Epstein, is that correct?
  126. 5:11>> I think so. Have you seen this
  127. 5:13photograph before today?
  128. 5:16Only in this picture.
  129. 5:19And for the record, what is happening in
  130. 5:21in this photo?
  131. 5:23He's
  132. 5:25smiling at me. Looks like he's talking
  133. 5:26to me.
  134. 5:28This is one of the friendly interactions
  135. 5:30that you're describing earlier?
  136. 5:31>> Yes.
  137. 5:32And can you describe the circumstances
  138. 5:34surrounding this photo?
  139. 5:35>> Are you asking him if he recalls this I
  140. 5:37do not. I have no idea.
  141. 5:40I see Richard Branson in the back and
  142. 5:45Okay. Other people have told me.
  143. 5:50But I don't remember anything about it.
  144. 5:53And
  145. 5:54you appear to be comfortable with Mr.
  146. 5:55Epstein in this photo. Would you
  147. 5:56disagree with
  148. 5:58that characterization?
  149. 5:59>> you're creating a characterization. He's
  150. 6:00already responded to your question about
  151. 6:02the picture.
  152. 6:03I'm comfortable with all the I'm
  153. 6:05comfortable here.
  154. 6:06I'm not happy, but I'm comfortable.
  155. 6:08>> [laughter]
  156. 6:17>> And my conscience is clear. That helps.
  157. 6:37Is that
  158. 6:39Can I see it?
  159. 6:50Okay.
  160. 6:55Mr. President, [clears throat] we have
  161. 6:56about 5 minutes remaining in the
  162. 6:58majority's first hour. So I just want to
  163. 7:01ask you some questions related to
  164. 7:05the crimes committed by Mr. Epstein and
  165. 7:08Ms. Maxwell.
  166. 7:11Did you ever witness Mr. Epstein
  167. 7:14sexually abuse or assault young women or
  168. 7:16girls?
  169. 7:17>> No. Did you ever witness Mr. Epstein
  170. 7:19receive massages from young women or
  171. 7:21girls?
  172. 7:23Not that I recall.
  173. 7:25Did Mr. Epstein ever discuss sexual acts
  174. 7:28of any kind with you? No.
  175. 7:33Did you ever have any sexual contact
  176. 7:36with young women or girls in the

  178. 7:42No.
  179. 7:45Did you ever have sexual contact with
  180. 7:47any young woman or girl introduced to

  182. 7:52>> No.
  183. 7:56Mr. President, with the benefit of
  184. 7:58hindsight,
  185. 8:00were there
  186. 8:01things you witnessed that could have
  187. 8:02suggested
  188. 8:04that Epstein was trafficking and
  189. 8:06sexually abusing young women and girls?
  190. 8:16I do not believe so.
