2. 0:02sometimes we do things we shouldn't do
3. 0:04and it was awful what I did this morning
4. 0:10former President Bill Clinton opening up
5. 0:13about it is affair with then intern
6. 0:15Monica Lewinsky including when he told
7. 0:17his wife about it I told her exactly
8. 0:20what happened when it happens I said I
9. 0:26feel terrible about it I was so you know
10. 0:31personally just hurt and you know I
11. 0:36can't believe this I can't believe you
12. 0:38lied she said well you have to go tell
13. 0:41your daughter she said that's worse than
14. 0:43me and so I did that which was awful the
15. 0:53former president blaming anxiety in
16. 0:55office for his transgressions you've
17. 0:58been in a 15-round prizefight it was
18. 1:02extended to 30 rounds and here's someone
19. 1:07take your mind off of it for - oh wow
20. 1:10they're revealing comments part of the
21. 1:12new Hulu documentary Hilary focused on
22. 1:16her life and career in the spotlight I
23. 1:18defended and stood by him because I
24. 1:21thought the impeachment process was
25. 1:23wrong but that wasn't the necessary
26. 1:26answer to what I would do with my
27. 1:28marriage
28. 1:28but Clinton's candid revelations
29. 1:30following years of scrutiny after bills
30. 1:32actions with Monica Lewinsky looking
31. 1:35back on what happened then through the
32. 1:36lens of me - now do you do you think
33. 1:39differently or feel more responsibility
34. 1:43no I felt terrible then and I came to
35. 1:47kiss with it in 2018 at Clinton speaking
36. 1:50to Craig about Lewinsky
37. 1:51saying he wouldn't have done anything
38. 1:53differently I do I I do know I've never
39. 2:01talked to her
40. 2:02but I did say publicly on more than one
41. 2:04occasion that I was sorry I eventually
42. 2:06kind of came to this point where I just
43. 2:08I had to realize that I couldn't run
44. 2:10away from what happened to me last
45. 2:12October
46. 2:13Linsky told savannah how she's
47. 2:15transformed her own pain into an
48. 2:17anti-bullying crusade feel like in that
49. 2:20moment to come out and reclaim your
50. 2:23story well it was terrifying I think
51. 2:27that it I it really could have gone
52. 2:29differently and I'm so incredibly
53. 2:31grateful for how things have changed
54. 2:33Clinton now saying it was unfair
55. 2:36Lewinsky's name became synonymous with
56. 2:38scandal I feel terrible about the fact
57. 2:41that Monica was his life was defined by
58. 2:43it unfairly I think you know over the
59. 2:48years I've watched her trying to get a
60. 2:50normal life back again but you got to
61. 2:54decide how to define normal stuff so we
62. 3:03heard the former Secretary of State
63. 3:04they're defending her husband in part by
64. 3:06saying the impeachment process was wrong
65. 3:09but said she was unsure about whether to
66. 3:11stay in the marriage what else did she
67. 3:12say about that decision to stay in the
68. 3:13marriage
69. 3:14what's interesting she draws this real
70. 3:15distinction between those two decisions
71. 3:17one decision whether or not to defend
72. 3:19him which she did during the impeachment
73. 3:21process and the other deciding whether
74. 3:23or not they still had a marriage after
75. 3:25all this he said that they went through
76. 3:27counseling what they described a Hillary
77. 3:29Clinton described it as painful
78. 3:30counseling and then Bill Clinton says it
79. 3:33was one of the hardest things that he
80. 3:34ever did obviously in the end they
81. 3:36stayed together
82. 3:36yeah it's remarkable to hear them speak
83. 3:39so emotionally about this moment they
84. 3:41also open up about a moment with Chelsea
85. 3:44Clinton after the revelations tell us
86. 3:46about that yeah this is actually an
87. 3:47iconic piece of video from from that
88. 3:49time it's the day after Bill Clinton
89. 3:52comes out and admits to having this
90. 3:54affair with Monica Lewinsky and they
91. 3:56were on their way to Martha's Vineyard
92. 3:58and Hillary I'm in Chelsea Clinton
93. 4:00stands between them she's only 18 at the
94. 4:03time and grabs both of their hands you
95. 4:06see it in the video there and Hillary
96. 4:08Clinton says at that moment she was so
97. 4:10struck by her daughter and how strong
98. 4:12her daughter was and how she knew that
99. 4:15that's exactly what they needed in that
100. 4:17moment pretty remarkable that
101. 4:19documentary by the way out on Hulu today
102. 4:21just really quickly what was their
103. 4:23motivation do we know why they decided
104. 4:24to to do this now
105. 4:26one of the things that Hillary Clinton
106. 4:27says is that she's not running for
107. 4:29anything so it was an opportunity to be
108. 4:32open I know there are a lot of people
109. 4:33out there that sort of wished that kind
110. 4:35of openness happened a while ago but
111. 4:38it's out there now really great point a
112. 4:40lot of people weren't gonna want to see
