BigTreeTech Octopus v1.1 Klipper Install & Printer Configuration — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00right at this point i've got everything
- 0:01wired up and now i'm ready to configure
- 0:03clipper
- 0:03and just kind of get everything
- 0:05connected with the raspberry pi
- 0:07okay i've actually found using the voron
- 0:09instructions very helpful for installing
- 0:11clipper and mainsail
- 0:12so i'm just going to go ahead and follow
- 0:14that for at least for
- 0:16getting uh you know clipper installed on
- 0:18my raspberry pi
- 0:19there are several different front ends
- 0:21that you can run clipper with
- 0:22and i prefer mainsail i think it's
- 0:24really easy to use
- 0:26fluid is also very similar and then if
- 0:28you're more of an octoprint kind of
- 0:29person
- 0:30uh you know you can use that too but i
- 0:32find that it's pretty heavy weight
- 0:34and way more than what you would want
- 0:36just to run clipper
- 0:37another benefit to using mainsail or
- 0:39fluid is that you can run it off
- 0:40something like a pi
- 0:42zero because it's so lightweight but i'm
- 0:44actually using a
- 0:45raspberry pi 3 for mine okay the first
- 0:47step is to be
- 0:48to download mainsail os so i'm going to
- 0:51go ahead and grab
- 0:52the latest zip here in order to flash
- 0:54the image that you just downloaded
- 0:56you're going to want to
- 0:57use this baleno etcher and just download
- 0:59that it's available on either
- 1:01mac os or for windows and now i'm going
- 1:03to flash from file
- 1:05the image that i just downloaded and
- 1:07unzipped
- 1:10and then i go ahead and hit flash after
- 1:12you get done with the etching
- 1:14uh you have to go in here and update
- 1:16your
- 1:17your wpa supplicant file and what you're
- 1:20going to put in here is your network
- 1:22ssid that's case sensitive so make sure
- 1:24you put it in
- 1:26exactly how you spell it
- 1:30okay my next step is to power up the
- 1:32raspberry pi
- 1:33with the flashed card in it for clipper
- 1:36and mainsail i've got my power cable
- 1:39here
- 1:40now if i wanted to i could wire my pi to
- 1:43my board but i think for now
- 1:44i'm just going to power it this way uh
- 1:47after i get everything flash and a
- 1:48firmware file generated
- 1:50then i'm going to take an sd card and
- 1:52i'm going to have to flash
- 1:54it here and i'll go through that step as
- 1:56well okay so i'm going to use a program
- 1:58called putty
- 1:59to connect to mainsail
- 2:02and it's going to give me the security
- 2:04error just go ahead and hit yes
- 2:06and for password you're going to enter
- 2:08raspberry
- 2:09and before we're going to do much with
- 2:10the clipper menu config we want to go
- 2:12ahead and
- 2:13make sure clipper is updated so the
- 2:15first thing we're going to do
- 2:17is run a few commands one is to change
- 2:19the directories to clipper if you're not
- 2:21already there
- 2:22then you're going to run sudo
- 2:25system ctl
- 2:31stop clipper
- 2:35that's going to make sure that the
- 2:36clipper is not running
- 2:38and then we're going to go get pull this
- 2:41is going to pull the latest down
- 2:45and then we're going to go we're going
- 2:46to go ahead and start it up
- 2:50okay now we're ready to run to do the
- 2:52make menu config command which i have
- 2:54typed there
- 2:57now you should have all the options that
- 2:59you need so i've already kind of gone
- 3:01through this but
- 3:03you're going to you're going to hit
- 3:04enter or space and then pick
- 3:06stm32 you're going to make sure you pick
- 3:09the stm32f446
- 3:13bootloader you want 32 kib boot loader
- 3:17um clock reference you want 12 megahertz
- 3:19crystal
- 3:21communication for interface this depends
- 3:23on how you're going to be running it in
- 3:25my case it'll be over usb
- 3:27but if you're going to use one of the
- 3:29uart pins you can do that as well
- 3:32um and that's pretty much what all you
- 3:35need
- 3:35so once you're done you're going to hit
- 3:37quit and then if you had to save it you
- 3:39would hit yes
- 3:41and in order to compile everything hit
- 3:43make clean
- 3:44and then hit type in make and hit enter
- 3:48and everything should start compiling
- 3:52and the very last step it should say
- 3:53creating hex file out clipper bin
- 3:56as you can see at the very bottom here
- 3:58and we're just going to go ahead and
- 3:59confirm it's there by changing directory
- 4:01into the out
- 4:02and then looking to see for our clipper
- 4:04min file now the next thing we're going
- 4:06to need to do is copy that bin file
- 4:08to an sd card that we can then insert
- 4:10into the octopus board
- 4:12i'm going to use a program called winscp
- 4:16so i'm going to go ahead and load that
- 4:17and then i'm going to type in my
- 4:19hostname
- 4:20which is mainsail os
- 4:24and then my username is pi password
- 4:28is raspberry
- 4:32and then i should be able to go ahead
- 4:33and hit log in
- 4:35i can pick any just leave it on sftp
- 4:40um just go ahead and say add
- 4:44and now you should be able to browse to
- 4:46the clipper directory
- 4:48to the out and then download clipper.bin
- 4:53i'm just going to go ahead and click
- 4:54download
- 4:56and it doesn't really matter where you
- 4:59download it
- 5:00but i will go ahead and put it in my
- 5:02downloads folder
- 5:07um so overwrite the local file
- 5:10yeah why not okay so i went ahead and
- 5:13downloaded it
- 5:14you're going to need to rename it to
- 5:16firmware.bin
- 5:19because that's what the octopus board is
- 5:20going to read
- 5:22so once you rename that you can then
- 5:24copy it over to your
- 5:25sd card
- 5:29okay so i went ahead and copied it over
- 5:31and i renamed it to firmware.bin once i
- 5:34got to my sd card
- 5:36so the next step is simply um you're
- 5:39going to
- 5:39unload your or eject your card from your
- 5:42computer
- 5:43and once you pull out your card which i
- 5:46have here
- 5:47you're going to take this and put it in
- 5:48the octopus board okay so i'm over here
- 5:50at the octopus board now
- 5:52i'm going to go ahead and insert that sd
- 5:53card that i just copied the firmware bin
- 5:55file to
- 5:56so that should be good as you can see
- 5:58i've got the card in
- 5:59you can either power it up with your
- 6:00power supply
- 6:02or you can power it up with your
- 6:04raspberry pi which is how i'm going to
- 6:06do it
- 6:07so i'm just going to take my raspberry
- 6:10pi
- 6:10cable and plug it in
- 6:14so i went ahead and plug that in now
- 6:17and it should be applying that firmware
- 6:20so this is one way that you know how
- 6:21your firmware been was successful
- 6:23is when you run the ls command the lsdev
- 6:26serial by id
- 6:27right here you should get something that
- 6:29looks like this with a very specific
- 6:31uh you know identifier here um and it
- 6:35should
- 6:35read your chip that you just configured
- 6:38so mine looks good
- 6:39um now now that was probably the easy
- 6:41part now we got to do the
- 6:42printer.config file what you can verify
- 6:45it is by removing your
- 6:47um your your sd card from the
- 6:50octopus and checking for the presence of
- 6:52this firmware.cur file now i'm going to
- 6:54go ahead and suggest
- 6:56uh you know starting with this voron2
- 6:58config file even though
- 7:00i'm not running a boron there's probably
- 7:01a lot of similarities here with how i
- 7:03have things set up
- 7:05so i'm going to go ahead and use this as
- 7:06my starting point something that you're
- 7:08definitely going to want to look at
- 7:10as you go through this configuration is
- 7:12the pin out for the big treetech octopus
- 7:14board
- 7:15and you can find that in the github
- 7:16location in their documentation folder
- 7:20okay here you can see i've highlighted
- 7:22the diagram so you can
- 7:23get an idea of how this works so look at
- 7:26the hot end pins
- 7:27and then you can see it says he 0 which
- 7:29is where you physically connect it
- 7:31where the air is pointing and then
- 7:32there's another arrow pointing to the
- 7:34right
- 7:35and you can see that it's pa2 is the
- 7:37actual pin you're going to use okay one
- 7:39of the first things you're going to need
- 7:40to do
- 7:41is change whatever line they have in
- 7:43there
- 7:44with whatever line you have when you did
- 7:46your ls command
- 7:48so if you don't have a line that looks
- 7:49like this it probably means your
- 7:51firmware is not applied properly here
- 7:54you can see a close-up of my clipper
- 7:56printer configuration file
- 7:58and the first thing that i need to do is
- 7:59add the printer section and under there
- 8:01it has
- 8:02kinematics core xy which is needed for
- 8:04my core xy build
- 8:06and then i just change the velocity and
- 8:08acceleration
- 8:10here you can see that i'm configuring
- 8:11the xy motors
- 8:14and i need to make sure that the pin out
- 8:15matches
- 8:17which in this case it's motor zero
- 8:21something else that i'll point out is
- 8:22that i'm also marking the end stop pin
- 8:24and setting that to
- 8:26pg9 as you can see there so that's uh
- 8:29the proper pin number for the x endstop
- 8:31and i had to do the same thing
- 8:32for the y as well here you can see i've
- 8:36done something very similar for the y
- 8:39and i've confirmed that the pins are
- 8:41correct based on the motors that i have
- 8:43it connected to
- 8:44so in this case it's motor one you'll
- 8:46also see here that i've
- 8:48changed the full steps per rotation
- 8:51setting to 400 because i'm using
- 8:530.9 degree stepper motors instead of the
- 8:56standard 1.8
- 8:57if you're using 1.8 the default would be
- 9:00200
- 9:00and you don't even need to change it so
- 9:03something else that i didn't mention on
- 9:05the previous screen was the position max
- 9:08so my cube is a 300 by 300 by 400
- 9:11so i went ahead and filled in 300 both
- 9:14here and
- 9:15in the past setting on the x as well
- 9:20and here are the settings for my z
- 9:21stepper as you can see i
- 9:23once again confirmed the motor pin and i
- 9:26i really did look at the uh
- 9:28pin out in order to confirm this the
- 9:30other thing you'll notice is that
- 9:32i i went ahead and commented out where
- 9:34it says zero stepper front left
- 9:36so there's actually two motor ports and
- 9:38i'm running a dual z so that works out
- 9:40really well i just plug the plug one
- 9:42into the one
- 9:43and one into the other it doesn't matter
- 9:45which side is which the other thing that
- 9:47i put on here is a position max of about
- 9:49385
- 9:50and i did set the position endstop to
- 9:530.05
- 9:54that gives me a little bit of lift above
- 9:56the z it's like an offset
- 9:58and under each of the stepper sections
- 10:00you're going to see this tmc2209
- 10:03so what i did if you remember in the
- 10:04previous video i copied down my settings
- 10:06for motor current
- 10:08so in in my case it was uh 1000 for z so
- 10:12in clipper it's a 1. so i just went
- 10:14ahead and filled that out as well
- 10:16and now we're in the extruder section
- 10:18and here i once again confirmed
- 10:20and i'm using e0 which is on my motor 3.
- 10:23so you can see all the pin settings
- 10:26there
- 10:26one other thing that you see here is the
- 10:28rotation distance and i had to calibrate
- 10:30my extruder and there's a formula
- 10:33for coming up with that it's basically
- 10:34running 120 millimeter
- 10:36filament test through the extruder and
- 10:39you know you go you do that a few times
- 10:41and you eventually come to a number
- 10:43so for me that was 7.2 and i'll put a
- 10:45link in the description on how to do
- 10:46that
- 10:48the other thing that you'll notice here
- 10:49is that i've got a heater pin setting
- 10:50which is where my thermistor is plugged
- 10:52into
- 10:53once again on the pin out and that's pa2
- 10:56and then you also see
- 10:58the sensor pin and the sensor type and
- 11:00those are important to get correct
- 11:02and there are some different settings
- 11:04that you can look up to see what
- 11:06values you should use for sensor type
- 11:08and there's also a
- 11:10tmc2209 section for the extruder
- 11:12and here i set my run current and hold
- 11:15current
- 11:16set them the same which is uh so in
- 11:18marlin it was 1100
- 11:20and here it's going to be 1.1 and that
- 11:22seems to be
- 11:23a good value for my particular hymera
- 11:25setup it's a little high
- 11:26but it does work really well okay and
- 11:29here you can see i've got the heater bed
- 11:31uh settings and basically the first very
- 11:34first thing there is the pin
- 11:35that's going to power the bed so ssr pin
- 11:38bed out
- 11:39and then the sensor type which is the
- 11:42thermistor
- 11:43and then the sensor pin which is uh the
- 11:45pin thermistor is going to use
- 11:47something else i'll note here is the max
- 11:49power if you don't want your bed to
- 11:51just go full power you can change this
- 11:53to a value less than one
- 11:55um in my case i've got a fairly low
- 11:57wattage ac bed so one is fine
- 12:00the reason that you might want to change
- 12:01that is if you have a higher wattage bed
- 12:04in some cases if you heat the bed too
- 12:06fast it can talk to the bed or basically
- 12:08change the
- 12:09you know the the flatness of it okay and
- 12:12now we're in the fan control section of
- 12:14the file
- 12:15and here you can see i've got two fans
- 12:17to find the first one is the print
- 12:19cooling fan
- 12:20and that's once again confirming with
- 12:21the pin out pe5 to where i have it
- 12:23plugged in
- 12:24and then i'm making sure that it's set
- 12:26to max power and i'm just using a
- 12:28default settings here for the kickstart
- 12:31and then i've also got my hot end fan
- 12:33below that
- 12:34and i want that only to turn on when the
- 12:37temperature of the
- 12:39thermistor is 50 c or above okay this
- 12:42last section here
- 12:43is the safe z home and what you're going
- 12:45to see here is the home x y position
- 12:47which is important
- 12:49and after that you're going to see a
- 12:51speed and a z-hop
- 12:52so when it does do a home it's going to
- 12:54use that speed and it'll hop
- 12:56every time you do a home for any axis
- 13:00x or y and the very last thing you see
- 13:03on the screen
- 13:03is the input shaper and please don't put
- 13:06that in your
- 13:07file if you're watching that is
- 13:08something that you want to calibrate in
- 13:10tune
- 13:11and that also happens to be the topic of
- 13:13my next video
- 13:14i'm going to walk through how i tuned
- 13:16input shaper and basically eliminated my
- 13:18ghosting
- 13:19so please stay tuned and thanks for
- 13:21watching
