- 0:06early one morning in november of 2003
- 0:09bethany hamilton went to makua beach on
- 0:12kauai in hawaii to go surfing a 13 years
- 0:15old competitive surfer hamilton often
- 0:17went surfing with her best friend and
- 0:19fellow competitor alana blanchard on
- 0:22this morning bethany and alana were
- 0:24joined by houlton byron blanchard
- 0:26alana's dad and brother at about 7 30
- 0:29a.m a tiger shark probably 3.6 to 4.5
- 0:33meters in length suddenly bit off
- 0:35hamilton's left arm just below the
- 0:37shoulder after hamilton was attacked
- 0:40instead of panicking and possibly
- 0:41drowning she used her one arm to paddle
- 0:44over to her friends
- 0:45along the way she even made sure to warn
- 0:48other surfers and swimmers nearby
- 0:50shouting that there was a shark
- 0:52many of hamilton's friends and family
- 0:54attest to her quiet strength pointing
- 0:56out that she has never cried about the
- 0:57incident even her doctors were surprised
- 1:00at her determination
- 1:02her story was come true and to hew own
- 1:04book soul surfer a true story of faith
- 1:06family and fighting to get back on the
- 1:08board and at the hollywood film soul
- 1:10surfer 2011.
