  53. 2:32people they love while helping others
  54. 2:34around them do the same life book is the
  55. 2:37coolest hippest and quite possibly the
  56. 2:39most powerful concept ever in personal
  57. 2:42development it is a complete life
  58. 2:45development system for creating your
  59. 2:47very best life during the program you're
  60. 2:50guided step by step as you define your
  61. 2:53very best future create a detailed plan
  62. 2:56to accomplish it then implement your
  63. 2:59plan inside an accountability system
  64. 3:02with all the tools support and guidance
  65. 3:04you need unprecedented in its width
  66. 3:07depth and aesthetics life book is a
  67. 3:10completely new paradigm in the
  68. 3:12self-improvement world so why is this
  69. 3:17interview so unique there's a couple of
  70. 3:21reasons number one I actually don't do
  71. 3:24the interview John Sutton Jordan does
  72. 3:27the interview and the reason is John is
  73. 3:30a very private guy who really doesn't do
  74. 3:33interviews you cannot believe how
  75. 3:35excited I was to have John on the
  76. 3:37program let me explain to you about life
  77. 3:42book a little bit here's some here's
  78. 3:44some background to all this so I have
  79. 3:48been setting goals since I was 15 to be
  80. 3:51on the all-star team for baseball and
  81. 3:55I've been writing them down since I was
  82. 3:5718
  83. 3:57but life book was the first time in my
  84. 4:01life that it was broken down into twelve
  85. 4:06categories and also within each category
  86. 4:12was a premise vision purpose and
  87. 4:16strategy for achieving the best life
  88. 4:19possible now with my partners dr. Noda
  89. 4:23Koya and dr. Wanda Lee McPhee
  90. 4:25you know the mission
  91. 4:27of beyond your wildest genes is to
  92. 4:31educate and empower and inspire our
  93. 4:34community this is why we want to share a
  94. 4:37life book with our community because it
  95. 4:41had that great and impact on us that our
  96. 4:44spouses actually went through the
  97. 4:46program as well so from that point
  98. 4:49forward my life changed dramatically
  99. 4:53once you put this stuff pen to paper it
  100. 4:57takes on energy and that is a life of
  101. 5:02its own and I have over the years
  102. 5:05maintained my life book and I look at it
  103. 5:09and I update it and it has truly been a
  104. 5:14life changing experience and this is why
  105. 5:17we want to share it with you now at the
  106. 5:20end of the interview I will give you and
  107. 5:23it will be included in the show notes
  108. 5:25the information if you're interested and
  109. 5:29I highly recommend that you go to the
  110. 5:32site take a look at life book and I
  111. 5:35really believe the message that John
  112. 5:38lays out for you will resonate with you
  113. 5:41and I hope to see you go through life
  114. 5:44book and tell us about your experience
  115. 5:46[Music]
  116. 5:50[Applause]
  117. 5:57[Applause]
  118. 6:05hello podcast listeners this is Jordan
  119. 6:07River and I'm here with founder of life
  120. 6:09book John butcher hello everybody
  121. 6:11thanks for coming in man I appreciate it
  122. 6:13I'm so glad to be here and I want to do
  123. 6:15a shout out to dr. Michael dr. Noah and
  124. 6:18Wanda leave from beyond your wildest
  125. 6:20genes we love you guys we love what
  126. 6:22you're doing and we're really excited to
  127. 6:24record this podcast for you today
  128. 6:26absolutely well life book is a
  129. 6:29transformational personal development
  130. 6:31program unlike anything else in the
  131. 6:33personal development world mmm-hmm
  132. 6:35can you tell us the main focus of the
  133. 6:37life book process sure a life book we
  134. 6:40deeply explore the 12 most important
  135. 6:43categories of your life so we've we've
  136. 6:46broken the entire human life experience
  137. 6:48up into twelve different areas your
  138. 6:50health and fitness your love
  139. 6:52relationship your career your financial
  140. 6:55life etc and a life book we help you
  141. 6:59think deeply about these 12 areas define
  142. 7:01what you want in each of them like
  143. 7:04clearly get a clear vision for each
  144. 7:07category and then help you figure out
  145. 7:08how to get what you want in each of
  146. 7:10these these areas so we've been
  147. 7:12researching and studying the twelve life
  148. 7:15categories for almost 25 years now about
  149. 7:18twenty three or so and we've been
  150. 7:21collecting data on them from thousands
  151. 7:24and thousands of people for more than a
  152. 7:25decade so you know we've helped a lot of
  153. 7:28people really figure their life out and
  154. 7:30we've learned a lot about these twelve
  155. 7:32categories I've seen that I've seen that
  156. 7:35with the people going through life book
  157. 7:36man it really is amazing thank you well
  158. 7:38you want to run through the categories
  159. 7:39just real quick yes I'd like to do that
  160. 7:42and today what I want to talk about is I
  161. 7:45want to share the single most important
  162. 7:48thing that we've learned in our 25 years
  163. 7:52of research study and experience in each
  164. 7:55of the twelve life categories so you can
  165. 7:58consider these success secrets or the
  166. 8:01equations of success or the most
  167. 8:04important principles but what I want to
  168. 8:06do is take you through the most
  169. 8:09important things that we've learned the
  170. 8:11most important things that you need to
  171. 8:12know the most important things you need
  172. 8:14to do in order to create an
  173. 8:16extraordinary
  174. 8:18for yourself if you're able to master
  175. 8:20these 12 principles and they're
  176. 8:22relatively simple some of them are a
  177. 8:24little bit more difficult than others
  178. 8:27but they're they're pretty easy to wrap
  179. 8:29your head around if you're able to
  180. 8:31master these principles these equations
  181. 8:34you'll automatically have an amazing
  182. 8:37life easier said than done of course and
  183. 8:39we've got to work we got to work hard on
  184. 8:41these things and the other side of it is
  185. 8:44if you fall short in any of these areas
  186. 8:48it can derail your entire life what
  187. 8:52we've learned about the 12 categories is
  188. 8:54these are not electives they're all
  189. 8:56mandatory to living a great life so let
  190. 8:58me just give you an example you can have
  191. 9:00your life just firing on all cylinders
  192. 9:02except your health and fitness you know
  193. 9:05and I say a hundred pounds overweight or
  194. 9:08you're a smoker and you've you're jacked
  195. 9:10up in this in this area well that
  196. 9:13derails your entire life you can have
  197. 9:15everything working really really well in
  198. 9:17your life but have a compromised love
  199. 9:19relationship that can create a
  200. 9:21tremendous amount of pain for you and
  201. 9:23your children and and you know all the
  202. 9:25people around you that's the cliche is
  203. 9:27the successful businessman who doesn't
  204. 9:29have time for his wife and kids
  205. 9:30that's exactly right now on the other
  206. 9:32hand you can have a great relationship
  207. 9:33with your wife you can have your health
  208. 9:35and fitness completely dialed in and
  209. 9:37have your financial life be a wreck and
  210. 9:39so you have to live sort of in lack and
  211. 9:42scarcity all your life that's no way to
  212. 9:44live either so what we've learned about
  213. 9:46these twelve categories you know
  214. 9:48fundamentally is they are all mandatory
  215. 9:51none of them can be left behind or left
  216. 9:55to chance they've all got to be handled
  217. 9:56so life book is really the how to do
  218. 10:01life book that's what we do is help
  219. 10:04people really think through a vision for
  220. 10:06their entire life in every important
  221. 10:08area that's great well let's explore
  222. 10:10those twelve areas man you are ready to
  223. 10:12get started I'm ready to get started
  224. 10:13okay okay here we go so we're gonna
  225. 10:16start with health and fitness that's the
  226. 10:17first category that we that we explore
  227. 10:20in life book and I know this is a
  228. 10:22category that Michaels audience is
  229. 10:23familiar with now if there's anything
  230. 10:26that characterizes the world of health
  231. 10:28and fitness it's that it can be very
  232. 10:30complex
  233. 10:31and confusing in the 21st century
  234. 10:33there's so much noise out there
  235. 10:35there are so many contradictory points
  236. 10:38of view from the experts right you know
  237. 10:41nobody agrees on anything really out
  238. 10:43there it's it's information overload and
  239. 10:46as a result many people are just
  240. 10:50overwhelmed in this category they have a
  241. 10:52hard time figuring out how to navigate
  242. 10:54this incredibly important area of their
  243. 10:57of their lives so it might come as a
  244. 10:59little bit of a surprise to learn that
  245. 11:01the fundamental equation for your health
  246. 11:06and fitness is actually simple and
  247. 11:08here's what it is what you put into your
  248. 11:12body
  249. 11:13consistently Plus how you use your body
  250. 11:16consistently equals your level of health
  251. 11:20and fitness
  252. 11:21generally mm-hmm two things to focus on
  253. 11:24so let's start with what you put into
  254. 11:26your body you know most people view food
  255. 11:29as you know pleasure they what they care
  256. 11:33about is taste right and that's the
  257. 11:35whole primary thing every meal has to be
  258. 11:38this you know epic sensual experience
  259. 11:41but what the best way to look at food if
  260. 11:44you want to be really healthy is food is
  261. 11:47your medicine and food is your fuel so
  262. 11:50you got to learn the difference between
  263. 11:51what's good to put into your body and
  264. 11:53what's not good to put in your body and
  265. 11:54you want to maximize the good and
  266. 11:57minimize the bad if you don't know the
  267. 11:59difference you've got to learn the
  268. 12:00difference so that's first and then food
  269. 12:04as fuel the primary thing you want to
  270. 12:07focus on here is balancing what you
  271. 12:10consume with what you burn if you are
  272. 12:13able to relatively balance what you
  273. 12:16consume with what you burn you're not
  274. 12:18going to have a lot of waste on your
  275. 12:19body and if you can't balance relatively
  276. 12:24what you consume with what you burn
  277. 12:26you're gonna get into trouble so that's
  278. 12:29the first component what you put into
  279. 12:31your body consistently second component
  280. 12:34how to use your body you got to exercise
  281. 12:37period you just you got to exercise
  282. 12:38use-it-or-lose-it
  283. 12:40you need to sweat that's how you clean
  284. 12:42your
  285. 12:43largest organ which is your skin you've
  286. 12:46got to get your heart rate up exercise
  287. 12:48that muscle that incredibly important
  288. 12:50muscle you got a stretch you've got to
  289. 12:52make your body strong and you've also
  290. 12:55got to get good rest that's hugely
  291. 12:57overlooked in today's so true we don't
  292. 12:59teach our kids about it that's right we
  293. 13:01don't we don't do anything when it comes
  294. 13:03to sleeps it's like you're weak if
  295. 13:05you're taking a nap a sign of weakness
  296. 13:06but in reality it's great for our brains
  297. 13:09oh it's it's great for everything you've
  298. 13:11got to to alternate activity with rest
  299. 13:16and rejuvenation so you may need to
  300. 13:18learn some sleep strategies so at the
  301. 13:21end of the day you know there are a
  302. 13:22million other things we could focus on
  303. 13:23in health and fitness and chiropractic
  304. 13:25is one of them chiropractic is so
  305. 13:26incredibly important but fundamentally
  306. 13:29you're on a desert island and you got it
  307. 13:32you got to figure out how to how to live
  308. 13:34in a healthy way what you put into your
  309. 13:36body plus how you use your body
  310. 13:38consistently will equal your level of
  311. 13:41health and fitness so for most people
  312. 13:43for most people this will allow them to
  313. 13:46take control of their health and fitness
  314. 13:48at a pretty high level it's about 80 to
  315. 13:5190% of the game so that's the
  316. 13:53fundamental equation in this category
  317. 13:55that makes sense and I like how health
  318. 13:57and fitness is category number one oh
  319. 13:58yeah
  320. 13:59that's huge everything's based on it
  321. 14:00that's the bottom of the pyramid I like
  322. 14:02that a lot it's exactly right that's
  323. 14:03your that's your foundation well let's
  324. 14:05move on to the second category it is
  325. 14:07intellectual life that's correct your
  326. 14:09intellectual life so the fundamental
  327. 14:12premise here is that as human beings our
  328. 14:15minds are our basic tool of survival
  329. 14:17it's our ability to think that keeps us
  330. 14:21alive and defines us as a species and
  331. 14:25individually our ability to think is
  332. 14:27going to determine how high we rise as
  333. 14:30individuals I mean our minds is what it
  334. 14:33is with human beings everything in our
  335. 14:36civilization began with a thought every
  336. 14:39great work of art began with a thought
  337. 14:41every building every invention and in
  338. 14:44the exact same way everything in our
  339. 14:46lives as individuals began with the
  340. 14:48thought the career we chose the our
  341. 14:51choice of spouse the school we went to
  342. 14:54everything begins with a thought
  343. 14:56so your thoughts are creative your
  344. 14:58thoughts are causative your thoughts
  345. 15:00expand and create your life now most
  346. 15:03people live their lives with their
  347. 15:05thoughts on autopilot
  348. 15:07they don't take control of the process
  349. 15:09they've just they you know kind of react
  350. 15:12exactly as a result their lives sort of
  351. 15:15unfold by chance sort of randomly the
  352. 15:18big thought in this category is this if
  353. 15:21you take control of your thinking you
  354. 15:24take control of your world if you take
  355. 15:27control of your thinking you take
  356. 15:28control of your your world and the way
  357. 15:30to do that is first of all you need to
  358. 15:34choose to think because thinking is a
  359. 15:36choice thinking doesn't happen
  360. 15:38automatically in just about any
  361. 15:40situation you can choose to think about
  362. 15:42it or you can choose just not to bother
  363. 15:44you know to ignore it or just you
  364. 15:46completely blank out right you can make
  365. 15:50your consciousness brighter or dimmer
  366. 15:52when it comes to any subject well that's
  367. 15:55an incredibly interesting responsibility
  368. 15:57that Nature has given us right thinking
  369. 16:00is an active volition secondly you need
  370. 16:03to choose what to think about and how to
  371. 16:05think about it so thoughts become things
  372. 16:10thoughts are very very powerful they
  373. 16:13expand and create your life and the
  374. 16:16attitude that you bring to your thinking
  375. 16:18is so incredibly important is one of the
  376. 16:21most important things that we've learned
  377. 16:22over the last 25 years about the
  378. 16:23intellectual category and I love the
  379. 16:26Henry Ford quote if you think you can't
  380. 16:28or if you think you can you're probably
  381. 16:31right Wow killer quote yeah that's
  382. 16:34powerful and how does that work well
  383. 16:36here's how it works if you think you can
  384. 16:40do something you're gonna see
  385. 16:43opportunities you're gonna believe that
  386. 16:44you can do it and your brain is going to
  387. 16:46be on the lookout for opportunities to
  388. 16:48take advantage of and you're probably
  389. 16:50gonna make progress you're probably
  390. 16:51gonna move forward you think you can't
  391. 16:54what you're gonna see is obstacles
  392. 16:56you're gonna see challenges you're gonna
  393. 16:58expect them you're gonna be ready for
  394. 17:00them and you probably won't move in the
  395. 17:03situation you probably won't progress
  396. 17:05well we're talking about the exact same
  397. 17:07situation diff
  398. 17:09thought-process completely different
  399. 17:11results just because of the way that you
  400. 17:15think and of course then you multiply
  401. 17:17that times every situation every day of
  402. 17:20your life and you end up with a
  403. 17:23completely different life if you bring
  404. 17:25positivity versus negativity if you if
  405. 17:29you bring a can-do attitude versus a
  406. 17:32can't do attitude now there are no
  407. 17:36guarantees on anything in life there's
  408. 17:37no guarantees on success or happiness or
  409. 17:39fulfillment or anything else right
  410. 17:41there's no like magic formula this isn't
  411. 17:45a guarantee that if you you know think
  412. 17:47about getting getting rich you're gonna
  413. 17:49win the lottery but this much is certain
  414. 17:52if you take control of your thinking if
  415. 17:55you begin thinking deliberately and
  416. 17:58guiding your thoughts and actions toward
  417. 18:00a clearly defined vision for your life
  418. 18:02it is absolutely no doubt going to stack
  419. 18:06the deck in your favor
  420. 18:07definitely right salutely yes and others
  421. 18:11say that life book is one of the best
  422. 18:12tools that you can have to take control
  423. 18:14of your thoughts because what life book
  424. 18:16helps you do is think down your entire
  425. 18:18life really get clear on what you want
  426. 18:21so you can hold that in the forefront of
  427. 18:23your mind
  428. 18:24and that makes a big difference yeah and
  429. 18:26this perfect category number two is that
  430. 18:28as literally it's almost like category
  431. 18:31two is life books first step consciously
  432. 18:33thinking deciding to think that's that's
  433. 18:36where life book begins that's exactly
  434. 18:37right
  435. 18:38Jordan life book is an intellectual
  436. 18:39process you say you nailed that on the
  437. 18:42head that is an intellectual process
  438. 18:44you're bringing a tremendous amount of
  439. 18:46thinking and consciousness to your
  440. 18:47entire life and really dialing in the
  441. 18:51kind of existence you want to have as a
  442. 18:52human being it's great it's great stuff
  443. 18:55well category three is emotional life
  444. 18:57obviously also very important can you
  445. 19:00tell us tell us a little bit about that
  446. 19:01okay well let's start with a definition
  447. 19:03of emotions we consider emotions at life
  448. 19:06book we consider emotions body wisdom
  449. 19:08emotions are signals from deep inside of
  450. 19:11us and they come up in in response to
  451. 19:14some aspect of reality they're they're
  452. 19:17basically
  453. 19:19non-intellectual internal evaluations
  454. 19:22right you're there automatic evaluations
  455. 19:26of what's going on around you and they
  456. 19:29can be your best friend or they can be
  457. 19:31your worst enemy so if you've got
  458. 19:33emotional intelligence versus if you
  459. 19:36don't have emotional intelligence that's
  460. 19:38just a completely you know that's that's
  461. 19:40a game-changer so without emotional tell
  462. 19:43intelligence you're at the mercy of your
  463. 19:44emotions all the time they can
  464. 19:46completely sweep you away again just
  465. 19:48kind of drifting exactly or worse they
  466. 19:51can really take you take you down to a
  467. 19:53bad place so what we've learned about
  468. 19:56emotional intelligence at life book over
  469. 19:59all these years is it's it's not
  470. 20:02something you're born with
  471. 20:03it's something that you can develop over
  472. 20:06time and the great equation for doing
  473. 20:09that is the following
  474. 20:12emotional insight plus emotional control
  475. 20:16equals emotional intelligence emotional
  476. 20:19insight plus emotional control equals
  477. 20:22emotional intelligence so let's break
  478. 20:24this down
  479. 20:25emotional insight simply means being in
  480. 20:28touch with your emotions being conscious
  481. 20:30of them accepting them when they come up
  482. 20:33is as opposed to you know trying to
  483. 20:34ignore them or push them down seeking to
  484. 20:37understand what they're trying to tell
  485. 20:39you again they come up in response to
  486. 20:42some aspect of reality there are
  487. 20:44automatic internal evaluations what are
  488. 20:47they there for what are they trying to
  489. 20:48tell you
  490. 20:49emotional insight entails learning from
  491. 20:52your emotions when they come up and then
  492. 20:55emotional control means the ability to
  493. 20:58process and release the emotions that
  494. 21:03you don't want in your life like say
  495. 21:05anger fear resentment you don't ignore
  496. 21:10them or push them down those negative
  497. 21:12emotions you got to listen to them
  498. 21:13they're there to tell you something so
  499. 21:15you listen to them you learn from them
  500. 21:18you process them you integrate them you
  501. 21:22thank them and then you release them
  502. 21:25once they've done their job you have to
  503. 21:26walk around angry and resentful all the
  504. 21:28time it's
  505. 21:29right so true and then the other side of
  506. 21:31emotional control is the ability to
  507. 21:34generate the positive emotions that you
  508. 21:38want in your life on a daily basis so if
  509. 21:41you want more joy in your life there are
  510. 21:43things that make you feel joyful what
  511. 21:45are they do more of those things if you
  512. 21:47want more passion there are things that
  513. 21:49make you feel passionate find out what
  514. 21:51they are there's a recipe for that you
  515. 21:53want to be more peaceful more tranquil
  516. 21:55learn what makes you feel that way is it
  517. 21:58spending time in nature is it just
  518. 22:00reading a book and relaxing is it
  519. 22:02meditation and do more of that stuff
  520. 22:05there is a recipe for every emotional
  521. 22:08state and when you understand this it
  522. 22:10can be hugely powerful because all of a
  523. 22:12sudden you can start to generate the
  524. 22:14emotions that you want to feel on an
  525. 22:15ongoing basis and release in a healthy
  526. 22:18way the emotions that you don't want to
  527. 22:21be part of your life which you know
  528. 22:24doesn't mean that you're some kind of a
  529. 22:26superhero robot who can program every
  530. 22:29aspect of how you feel it simply means
  531. 22:32that you've got a healthy relationship
  532. 22:33with your emotions you seek to
  533. 22:36understand them and you try to get
  534. 22:39better and better at guiding them
  535. 22:41consciously so that you're not at their
  536. 22:44mercy although all the time you know
  537. 22:46they don't sweep you away
  538. 22:47instead you Alma you treat them as tools
  539. 22:51of awareness and you've harnessed their
  540. 22:53power and that is a big deal Wow that is
  541. 22:57powerful stuff man yeah thank you
  542. 23:00the next category is a little bit more
  543. 23:02abstract the first three are pretty
  544. 23:04clear-cut the fourth category is
  545. 23:06character yeah
  546. 23:08character oh my god you know when I was
  547. 23:10sitting down really trying to sequence
  548. 23:13the categories you know you start off by
  549. 23:15saying health and fitness is the perfect
  550. 23:17first category well I wanted to get the
  551. 23:19foundational category first and you know
  552. 23:21how these categories are sequence in the
  553. 23:23life book program is important because
  554. 23:24this work builds on itself you start
  555. 23:27from the beginning you go all the way
  556. 23:28through the end right and it builds on
  557. 23:30itself there is an argument to be made
  558. 23:32the character should be the first
  559. 23:34category because what controls your
  560. 23:36health and fitness good pointer controls
  561. 23:38everything in your life your
  562. 23:40character is the sum total of your
  563. 23:42personality traits it's your inner
  564. 23:45nature it's who you are inside and that
  565. 23:49determines how you're gonna live outside
  566. 23:50so like everything stems from and flows
  567. 23:55from your character and just like with
  568. 23:59your emotional life we've learned a life
  569. 24:00book that a good character is definitely
  570. 24:02not something you're born with a good
  571. 24:04character has to be nurtured and
  572. 24:06developed over time time is an
  573. 24:09incredibly important part of the
  574. 24:11equation for a good character so the
  575. 24:14great equation for developing a stellar
  576. 24:19character comes to us courtesy of
  577. 24:22Aristotle yeah perfect one of the big
  578. 24:27guys and here's what Aristotle said
  579. 24:28about your character he said good
  580. 24:30character happens when we're able to
  581. 24:33turn virtues into habits when we're able
  582. 24:37to turn virtues into habits and that's
  583. 24:39literally the equation in this category
  584. 24:40step one is to choose a virtue what
  585. 24:44virtue do you want to literally build
  586. 24:46into your life do you want more you know
  587. 24:49self-discipline in your life do you want
  588. 24:51to be a more reliable person do you want
  589. 24:53to be a more compassionate person choose
  590. 24:56the character trait that you want to
  591. 24:58sort of install into your into your life
  592. 25:01and then create a habit around it
  593. 25:04because a person of good character just
  594. 25:07doesn't exercise virtues like honesty or
  595. 25:10integrity or reliability or whatever you
  596. 25:13want to you know build into your life
  597. 25:15sometimes like you're not a
  598. 25:17compassionate person if you're like a
  599. 25:19compassionate person twice a year yeah
  600. 25:21totally you've got to turn that virtue
  601. 25:24into a habit and you've got to practice
  602. 25:26it on an ongoing basis so what you have
  603. 25:29to ask yourself is all right if I if I
  604. 25:32choose self responsibility or so or self
  605. 25:36discipline as a character trait how can
  606. 25:38I practice that on an ongoing basis well
  607. 25:41can I you know maybe maybe my workout is
  608. 25:45a good opportunity and I'm going to be
  609. 25:47disciplined about my workout and I'm
  610. 25:49gonna do it every severai I say I'm
  611. 25:52gonna do I'm gonna do it or if I want to
  612. 25:54practice compassion how can I do that on
  613. 25:57a daily basis and turn this virtue into
  614. 26:01a habit because if you exercise a virtue
  615. 26:04over and over and over it's gonna
  616. 26:06eventually become who you are and in
  617. 26:09this way you can shape and mold yourself
  618. 26:11into the person that you've consciously
  619. 26:14chosen to be and I mean I mean that's
  620. 26:17just about its noble of an objective as
  621. 26:20a human being concept for themselves
  622. 26:22right that is what life book is exactly
  623. 26:24that is literally what it is turning
  624. 26:26your thoughts into a habitual occurrence
  625. 26:29it's exactly right the first thing you
  626. 26:30got to do is get conscious of what you
  627. 26:32wanted to build into your life and then
  628. 26:34you got to figure out how to do it
  629. 26:36Benjamin Franklin actually had a really
  630. 26:39cool system he defined thirteen virtues
  631. 26:43that he wanted to build into his life he
  632. 26:44heustis famous for this and he had a
  633. 26:46little book of these thirteen virtues
  634. 26:49and it was like a little diary and he
  635. 26:51would he would just go down the list and
  636. 26:54and practice one virtue every single day
  637. 26:57today I'm gonna practice temperance
  638. 26:58today I'm gonna practice you know I
  639. 27:00forget what they what they are but but
  640. 27:02literally he would like practice yeah
  641. 27:05every one of the thirteen over thirteen
  642. 27:07days and then start over at the top of
  643. 27:09the list he did that for years it's like
  644. 27:10a religion religious and that's a good
  645. 27:13segue into the next category your
  646. 27:18spiritual life yeah number five all
  647. 27:20important number five and this is one
  648. 27:22that I didn't struggle with but it was
  649. 27:25really profound to have to sit down and
  650. 27:28think hard about it you mean in a life
  651. 27:30book when you went through a life book
  652. 27:31yes when I went through the life book
  653. 27:32program yeah this one's tough Jordan
  654. 27:35this one doesn't behave like the other
  655. 27:36categories this one has been a little
  656. 27:39bit difficult for me over the years to
  657. 27:42really
  658. 27:44I don't want to use the term pinned down
  659. 27:46but spirituality is it's different than
  660. 27:50the other categories in that you know
  661. 27:52it's been acknowledged in one way or
  662. 27:54another by every culture in human
  663. 27:56history humans have been talking about
  664. 27:58spirituality and writing about it for
  665. 28:00thousands of years but it's still very
  666. 28:02difficult to agree on and to understand
  667. 28:05exactly what the concept means I could
  668. 28:07mean something different to everybody
  669. 28:09who uses the word because spirituality
  670. 28:13is about the non-material right it's
  671. 28:14about the intangible it addresses issues
  672. 28:17that are very hard to put into words
  673. 28:19that's why this category is so elusive
  674. 28:21it's inherently elusive as exactly what
  675. 28:23I was just gonna say that's right and
  676. 28:24another thing about spirituality is it's
  677. 28:26deeply personal so it's it's it's about
  678. 28:29a personal experience it's different it
  679. 28:32means something different to everybody
  680. 28:33who explores it so no one can hand you a
  681. 28:37formula for this category you gotta you
  682. 28:41know go out there and discover it I feel
  683. 28:44there's probably a lot of similarities
  684. 28:45if you look at people's health and
  685. 28:47fitness categories of their life books
  686. 28:48there's probably a lot of similar
  687. 28:50picture as spirituality I'm sure it's a
  688. 28:52total all bets are off yeah all bets are
  689. 28:55off literally so the great equation in
  690. 28:58the spiritual category has to do with
  691. 29:01receiving and expressing so it's like
  692. 29:06input and output there's two very very
  693. 29:09clear sighs no matter what your religion
  694. 29:12is no matter what your spiritual path is
  695. 29:15these two components are always in play
  696. 29:18I'm gonna start the receiving end of the
  697. 29:23equation with a quote from who was it
  698. 29:26who said this it was Henry David Thoreau
  699. 29:28I love this quote is so profound and
  700. 29:31much more profound that it'll hit you
  701. 29:32the first time you got to think about
  702. 29:34this a little bit the quote is only
  703. 29:37through leisure time can one cultivate
  704. 29:40the soul's estate only through leisure
  705. 29:43time
  706. 29:44can one cultivate the soul's estate and
  707. 29:46what that means is you can't even feel
  708. 29:50your soul you can't even feel your
  709. 29:51spiritual life if you're on email 24/7
  710. 29:54and covered up with stress and nose to
  711. 29:56the grindstone in
  712. 29:57and you know on the hamster wheel and
  713. 29:59and and just you know working and and
  714. 30:02stressed out you can't even feel your
  715. 30:05spiritual life you've got to open up
  716. 30:07some some open space some quiet time you
  717. 30:10know the bible talks about that still
  718. 30:12small voice it's a still small voice you
  719. 30:17can't hear that still small voice if
  720. 30:19your life is full of noise spirituality
  721. 30:23is about connecting with your spirit and
  722. 30:25in order to connect with your spirit
  723. 30:26you've got a disconnect from a lot of
  724. 30:30stuff going on in the material world so
  725. 30:32what is that for you is it prayer if
  726. 30:35this is why people go to church it's
  727. 30:37it's a it's a chance to break their
  728. 30:40pattern to get off of the treadmill to
  729. 30:42disconnect to be around other
  730. 30:45like-minded people and to to really feel
  731. 30:48their souls you'll explore their beliefs
  732. 30:50exactly yeah for some people it's it's
  733. 30:53time in nature for some people it's
  734. 30:55meditation what do you need to do to
  735. 30:59disconnect from the physical world so
  736. 31:01that you can receive what is out there
  737. 31:04for you to receive and really feel your
  738. 31:06soul and fill your spirit yeah only
  739. 31:09through leisure time
  740. 31:10can one cultivate the soul's estate that
  741. 31:13beautiful it's a powerful powerful
  742. 31:15quality killer life book is full of
  743. 31:17power it's all about powerfulness thanks
  744. 31:20and and then the other side of that of
  745. 31:22course is expressing your spirit
  746. 31:26expressing your soul you know for me I
  747. 31:30that's painting sometimes it's writing
  748. 31:33it's when you're in that flow for some
  749. 31:36people it's dancing for some people it's
  750. 31:37prayer for you know for Michael Jordan
  751. 31:41it literally might be playing basketball
  752. 31:43that's when he's plugged in mm-hmm
  753. 31:44absolutely he's you know it's one that
  754. 31:47that basket looks like a hula hoop to
  755. 31:49him it's so big and he can just hit I
  756. 31:50mean he is in he's plugged in and he's
  757. 31:53expressing himself so that becomes an
  758. 31:56incredibly important part of the
  759. 31:58equation too you just don't sit and
  760. 32:00listen all the time you want to do
  761. 32:02something with that you
  762. 32:04with that beautiful energy that's coming
  763. 32:06through you chiropractors put their
  764. 32:08hands on people and heal them it's that
  765. 32:11the you know the amazing spiritual power
  766. 32:15coming through them like a conduit and
  767. 32:17going into somebody else's body to heal
  768. 32:19them that is a spiritual expression as
  769. 32:22far as I'm concerned so those are the
  770. 32:25two the aspects of spirituality the
  771. 32:27equation that we've found over a lot of
  772. 32:30years of study is that you've got a
  773. 32:32quiet yourself enough to receive and
  774. 32:34then you've got a responsibility to
  775. 32:36express and make the world a better
  776. 32:38place that's great man that's great I
  777. 32:40feel this next category is maybe the
  778. 32:43most dynamic has the widest range love
  779. 32:47relationships so people probably come
  780. 32:49into life book very distraught in this
  781. 32:53category and I bet there are also
  782. 32:55couples who come into life book who are
  783. 32:57way ahead of the curve on this category
  784. 32:59am I right about that you're right about
  785. 33:00that and this is one of the categories
  786. 33:02that is a game-changer for people who go
  787. 33:05through life book it's true there are a
  788. 33:07few major I'd say there's probably four
  789. 33:09or five categories that are the big like
  790. 33:12transformational categories that people
  791. 33:15experience massive growth and movement
  792. 33:18and breakthrough and this is one of them
  793. 33:19for sure love relationship is
  794. 33:22interesting this category is where the
  795. 33:26most pain or the most pleasure in your
  796. 33:30life lives right yeah if you've got an
  797. 33:33awesome love relationship it's gonna be
  798. 33:36your greatest source of pleasure in your
  799. 33:37entire life I can I'm speaking from
  800. 33:39personal experience here this is our
  801. 33:42category of strengths my wife and I if
  802. 33:46you have if you have a compromised love
  803. 33:50relationship it's where you can
  804. 33:51experience the most pain that's what
  805. 33:53we've we found over the years and it was
  806. 33:57it was difficult for me to really zero
  807. 34:02in on the great equation for this
  808. 34:05category because there's so much that
  809. 34:06can be said about it
  810. 34:08but at the end of the day I feel pretty
  811. 34:10good about defining what I consider to
  812. 34:13be the absolute fundamental it's summed
  813. 34:17up with a quote from jean-paul Sartre a
  814. 34:20who said in love one plus one equals one
  815. 34:25that's okay so here's here's there's two
  816. 34:27aspects to it here's what extraordinary
  817. 34:30love relationships would require the
  818. 34:33first thing an extraordinary love
  819. 34:35relationship requires is two
  820. 34:37extraordinary people you can't make
  821. 34:40anything good without good ingredients
  822. 34:44right you can't have an extraordinary
  823. 34:46love relationship if you're a depressed
  824. 34:50dysfunctional miserable human being it's
  825. 34:53impossible you know
  826. 34:55you've got to have something to bring to
  827. 34:56the party yes something you've got to be
  828. 34:58a good person to be in a relationship
  829. 35:00with exactly see categories one through
  830. 35:02five those personal categories are so
  831. 35:05incredibly important right so you know
  832. 35:08too many people complain about the fact
  833. 35:10that they they can't find the ideal
  834. 35:11partner or they're not with the ideal
  835. 35:13partner they can't find mr. right they
  836. 35:16can't find mrs. right yet they've given
  837. 35:17very little thought to the challenges of
  838. 35:20making themselves an ideal partner
  839. 35:22mm-hmm so you know if you're looking for
  840. 35:24mr. right out there you want you might
  841. 35:26want to ask yourself a mine this is
  842. 35:27right if you're looking for the perfect
  843. 35:29woman you might want to ask yourself am
  844. 35:31I the perfect man we have to turn
  845. 35:34ourselves into what we're hoping to find
  846. 35:37and that's one of the biggest challenges
  847. 35:39of romantic love you have got to bring
  848. 35:42something to the table you know you
  849. 35:45can't make anything good without good
  850. 35:47ingredients you can't make good wine
  851. 35:49without good grapes you can't have a
  852. 35:50great sports team without great athletes
  853. 35:53and you can't have a great relationship
  854. 35:54if you are a miserable person you got to
  855. 35:58have you got to be a good person to be
  856. 36:01in a relationship with yeah so that's
  857. 36:04the first the first part Jordan airy
  858. 36:06love requires two extraordinary people
  859. 36:08who then the second part commit to
  860. 36:12creating something great together
  861. 36:14creating one great thing
  862. 36:17extraordinary love requires an
  863. 36:19extraordinary commitment and I will go
  864. 36:22as far as to say that I believe that
  865. 36:26extraordinary love requires each person
  866. 36:30in the relationship to put the other
  867. 36:32first I put Missy first and I put her I
  868. 36:36put her ahead of everything else in my
  869. 36:37life and she puts me first ahead of
  870. 36:39everything else in her life now it's a
  871. 36:41little bit hard core to think about you
  872. 36:43know putting putting your spouse in
  873. 36:46front of your kids in front of your
  874. 36:47career in front of everything else
  875. 36:49doesn't mean you love your kids any less
  876. 36:51that you know one of the great things
  877. 36:53about love is that you can turn it up to
  878. 36:55a hundred percent and give it to
  879. 36:56everybody there's no yeah there's no
  880. 36:58bottom to that well right totally
  881. 37:00Yeah right so you're not taking anything
  882. 37:01away by loving somebody more but to me
  883. 37:05putting Missy first means that her needs
  884. 37:08must be attended to as my primary
  885. 37:11responsibilities I put her ahead of my
  886. 37:14career and a lot of men don't do that
  887. 37:17we're like what I said earlier it's the
  888. 37:19same thing exactly she puts me in front
  889. 37:22of her children and a lot of women don't
  890. 37:24do that and you know what Jordan you can
  891. 37:27tell me whether you agree with this or
  892. 37:28not I think it's a wonderful thing for
  893. 37:30children to see parents doing that they
  894. 37:33feel stability they see that example
  895. 37:37being set they feel safe I think that's
  896. 37:39the most important thing a kid can feel
  897. 37:42and I've heard that I'm not making that
  898. 37:44up this isn't my that's what I've heard
  899. 37:45a secure home between two with two
  900. 37:47loving parents
  901. 37:49exactly I'm basically all they need
  902. 37:51there's your foundation exactly there's
  903. 37:52your foundation so I'm gonna spend just
  904. 37:55a little bit more time on this than most
  905. 37:57of the categories because this is a
  906. 37:58super important one we did a research
  907. 38:01study at lifebook and we identified
  908. 38:04twenty-something couples with that means
  909. 38:08a total of 20 not couples in their
  910. 38:10twenties I think I was twenty four
  911. 38:13couples participated in this study and
  912. 38:16what we did is we went out there with a
  913. 38:18with a survey and identify identified
  914. 38:21lifebook couples who had what we
  915. 38:23consider to be an extraordinary
  916. 38:24relationship which we defined clearly
  917. 38:27and we did interviews we did deep
  918. 38:31research we did our introspect
  919. 38:33assessment on these these 24 or so
  920. 38:36couples and we had a very very
  921. 38:39interesting result there were two pieces
  922. 38:41of data that were outlier pieces of data
  923. 38:44which completely validate what I just
  924. 38:47said I'm not an extraordinary I love
  925. 38:48relationships the first piece of data
  926. 38:50was that of all the 12 life categories
  927. 38:53every single one of these of the people
  928. 38:57the individuals in this study their
  929. 39:00character category was above their
  930. 39:04relative mean it was the only category
  931. 39:06of all 12 that was above the the average
  932. 39:10score in every single participant which
  933. 39:14indicates these are great people mm-hmm
  934. 39:17where we're dealing with 24 great
  935. 39:19individuals here separate from their
  936. 39:21love relationship so that validates the
  937. 39:23first premise that extraordinary love
  938. 39:25requires extraordinary people and then
  939. 39:28the second piece of outlier data I gotta
  940. 39:30say this even surprised me I was shocked
  941. 39:33by this actually if you take a look at
  942. 39:35the 12 categories we we quantify what we
  943. 39:40call the category of strengths so the
  944. 39:42category that you have the highest score
  945. 39:43under introspect assessment is your
  946. 39:45category of strengths and usually
  947. 39:48categories of strengths are going to be
  948. 39:50pretty well evenly distributed across
  949. 39:53the population in this study eighty
  950. 39:56seven point five percent of our
  951. 39:59participants had the same category of
  952. 40:02strengths which is that's an outlier
  953. 40:03piece of data that number should be
  954. 40:05twelve right fifteen percent it was 87
  955. 40:09point five percent the category of
  956. 40:11strengths was life vision oh and so
  957. 40:14here's what that means
  958. 40:15that means that these couples were not
  959. 40:18only extraordinary people they had spent
  960. 40:21a tremendous amount of time dialing in
  961. 40:24their life vision they knew exactly the
  962. 40:26kind of life they were trying to create
  963. 40:27together they were on the same page
  964. 40:30they'd committed to creating this
  965. 40:33extraordinary love affair and not only
  966. 40:36that but they knew what they wanted in
  967. 40:37their health
  968. 40:38fitness and their parenting in a career
  969. 40:40in financial life they were an agreement
  970. 40:42they'd thought it down they had created
  971. 40:44one thing so at the end of the day the
  972. 40:48equation for an extraordinary love
  973. 40:49relationship is two great people with
  974. 40:52one singular compelling life vision and
  975. 40:56that's the great equation in the love
  976. 40:59category that's amazing and I like
  977. 41:01hearing that because we will get on to
  978. 41:02light fission later on but that's one of
  979. 41:05my stronger categories so that makes me
  980. 41:06that makes me feel good about myself but
  981. 41:09for now let's move on here to category 7
  982. 41:11is parenting okay so parenting is is
  983. 41:15just a phenomenal category and again
  984. 41:17there's so many things that you could
  985. 41:19say about the parents in category my
  986. 41:21goodness and you know everybody sort of
  987. 41:23has a different version of how they want
  988. 41:25to raise their kids but there are
  989. 41:26certain fundamentals that apply across
  990. 41:28the board in this category there's one
  991. 41:31thing that stands out above all other
  992. 41:34things the example that you set as a
  993. 41:37human being not necessarily even as a
  994. 41:39parent the example you set as a human
  995. 41:42being by how you live your life and the
  996. 41:44kind of person you are is far greater
  997. 41:48than any parenting strategy that you
  998. 41:51could ever employ so there are all kinds
  999. 41:55of great parenting strategies important
1000. 41:57parenting strategies research shows one
1001. 42:00of the most important things for a child
1002. 42:02to feel is safe a child needs to have a
1003. 42:04stable safe environment a child needs to
  1004. 42:07feel loved
1005. 42:08there are a lot of things that go into
1006. 42:10creating great environment in which to
1007. 42:12raise a child and there are a lot of
1008. 42:13important strategies like how are you
1009. 42:15can educate your your kid you know
1010. 42:17there's a lot of things that we could
1011. 42:18talk about but one thing eclipses all
1012. 42:22other things and that is that the person
1013. 42:24that you are and the life that you live
1014. 42:26is everything to your child you are
1015. 42:29their world you are all they see you are
1016. 42:32the example of what being a human being
1017. 42:34means you are their provider you are
1018. 42:36their care giver you are everything they
1019. 42:38want to be you you know they're gonna
1020. 42:41look to not what you say they're gonna
1021. 42:43look to who you are and what you do
  1022. 42:44that's what they're around 24/7 so if
  1023. 42:48you smoke you're giving them permission
  1024. 42:49to smoke if you're overweight
1025. 42:51it doesn't matter what you say about
1026. 42:52sugar or junk food or being unhealthy
1027. 42:54you're given them permission to be
  1028. 42:56overweight every single day if you're a
1029. 42:59courageous person who steps up to life
1030. 43:02and who's not afraid to set goals and go
1031. 43:05after them and they see that which they
  1032. 43:06will while you're giving your child
  1033. 43:09permission to be courageous if you've
  1034. 43:11got a fantastic relationship with your
  1035. 43:13spouse you're showing them every day
1036. 43:15what a proper relationship looks like if
  1037. 43:19you've got a jacked-up relationship with
1038. 43:21your spouse if you're fighting all the
1039. 43:23time and constantly full of stress
1040. 43:25they're looking at that and thinking
  1041. 43:26well that's what a relationship is you
1042. 43:28are their world the most important
1043. 43:30responsibility that we have as parents
1044. 43:32is literally to live great lives and be
1045. 43:36great people the best education a kid
1046. 43:39could ever have is to see their parents
  1047. 43:41living a happy successful stable
1048. 43:44fulfilling life so in this category it's
1049. 43:48not always say as who we are that will
  1050. 43:50affect our child's lives more than
1051. 43:52anything else so again just like with
1052. 43:55love relationship all the life book
1053. 43:57categories are important here you know
1054. 43:59the most important thing you can do is
1055. 44:01really get those personal life
1056. 44:02categories in life lying get your love
1057. 44:04relationship in line get your financial
1058. 44:06life and career in line and and then
1059. 44:09from there you work on your relationship
1060. 44:11with your kid in your parenting
  1061. 44:13strategies well that's an important
1062. 44:15commonality that I see which is working
1063. 44:18on yourself work on yourself for the
1064. 44:21role of relationship work on yourself to
1065. 44:23be an example for the kids we do so much
1066. 44:25finger pointing and externalizing and we
1067. 44:28need to turn in towards ourselves more
  1068. 44:31often than not it's called taking
1069. 44:32responsibility and it puts you in the
1070. 44:35driver's seat it puts you in the
  1071. 44:36Empowered position when you're
  1072. 44:38finger-pointing you can't control how
  1073. 44:40other people behave you can't do
1074. 44:41anything about that you're not in charge
1075. 44:43of that you're only in charge of
1076. 44:44yourself but taking responsibility for
1077. 44:48yourself it's you know going back to
  1078. 44:51character for just a second self
1079. 44:53responsibility is the primary character
  1080. 44:56trait no question about it here's a
1081. 44:58little bonus you know in in the
  1082. 45:00character category taking responsibility
  1083. 45:03is
1084. 45:03the character trait from which all other
1085. 45:06character traits flow you deciding that
1086. 45:10you are going to be the decision maker
1087. 45:12at the center of your own existence the
1088. 45:14primary driving force behind your own
1089. 45:17life and of course that's what life book
1090. 45:19is all about yeah it really is well
1091. 45:23let's just keep plowing ahead here a
1092. 45:24category number eight this is one that I
1093. 45:25struggle with or you know what I used to
1094. 45:27struggle with and then you know
  1095. 45:30partially thanks to life book I've
1096. 45:31really come around in this category
1097. 45:32category eight your social life yeah you
1098. 45:35know this was this was our weakest
  1099. 45:37category - Missy and I because we've got
1100. 45:39lots of kids we've got you know what
  1101. 45:42twelve brothers and sisters 13 nieces
1102. 45:45and nephews giant family we run you know
  1103. 45:49multiple companies we've got very busy
1104. 45:52lives we we like to spend as much time
1105. 45:54as we can together alone together we're
1106. 45:56were like you know really very guarded
1107. 46:00with our time and this category always
1108. 46:04seemed to be the the low category on the
1109. 46:07totem path for us and for a lot of years
  1110. 46:09we didn't bring a whole lot of
1111. 46:11consciousness to it kind of you know
1112. 46:13whoever walked through the front door of
1113. 46:14our lives became our friends we didn't
1114. 46:18have any kind of a conscious strategy
1115. 46:19until we really started developing our
1116. 46:21life book and and and realizing that
1117. 46:24this category is hugely important so the
1118. 46:29great equation in this category is super
  1119. 46:31simple and here's what it is a stellar
1120. 46:36social life requires that you choose
1121. 46:39good friends and that you are a good
1122. 46:42friend so it focuses on other people
1123. 46:46that you want to bring into your life
1124. 46:47and how you relate to those other people
1125. 46:50so on the choose good friends side you
1126. 46:56know you become like your friends I
1127. 46:58forget who said it at Peter Diamandis or
1128. 47:00somebody smart that you are the average
1129. 47:06of the five people that you spend most
1130. 47:08time the the most of your time with
  1131. 47:11friendships create a huge gravitational
1132. 47:13pull you sink or rise to the level of
1133. 47:17the people that you spend most time with
1134. 47:19is just the case you know you spend a
1135. 47:21lot of time around a bunch of negative
1136. 47:22people that just gets on you it's true
1137. 47:24right totally true all of a sudden you
1138. 47:27find yourself start acting like that
1139. 47:29I'll never I'll never forget I was in my
1140. 47:31early 20s and I had my first trade show
1141. 47:33in New York right so I go to New York to
1142. 47:37set up this trade show booth and I
1143. 47:39worked the trade show and tore it down I
1144. 47:40was in New York for two weeks by the end
  1145. 47:42of that time I was a New Yorker I always
1146. 47:44liked the yelling at people I was they
  1147. 47:46you know I was I was talking like that I
1148. 47:48was moving like that you just you you
1149. 47:50absorb the qualities of the people that
1150. 47:54you you spend time with
  1151. 47:55everything's contagious I think you told
  1152. 47:57me that everything's contagious grabber
1153. 48:00thing that you're around so if you want
1154. 48:02fantastic friendships that enhance your
1155. 48:04life and that energize and stimulate and
1156. 48:07inspire you you've got to choose people
1157. 48:09that are like that now one of the things
1158. 48:12that Missy and I realized probably eight
1159. 48:15or ten years ago is we we literally went
1160. 48:19through a contact list and we said we
1161. 48:20got to delete some friggin contracts
1162. 48:22here in contacts we have to you know
1163. 48:25that doesn't mean we need to read the
1164. 48:27riot act to people and tell them that
1165. 48:29they're no longer welcome in our life it
1166. 48:31just means maybe let's lose this phone
1167. 48:33number and you know it's just sort of I
1168. 48:37would say sort of compassionately move
1169. 48:40away a little bit we had some people in
1170. 48:43our lives that were not good for us
  1171. 48:44that's the bottom yeah
1172. 48:45I'm not judging them is wrong everybody
1173. 48:47knows someone in their life like that
  1174. 48:49that's right
1175. 48:49systems it's hard it is it is this is a
1176. 48:52tough thing to do it doesn't mean that
1177. 48:55you need to make them wrong and make
1178. 48:57them evil it just means that you you
  1179. 48:59make a decision that that you just don't
1180. 49:02want to spend time with them it doesn't
  1181. 49:04need to be a big judgmental thing it's
1182. 49:06that you want to put your energy
  1183. 49:07elsewhere and and we've done it a couple
1184. 49:10times consciously going through our
1185. 49:12contact list and saying do we really
1186. 49:13want this person to be in our life
1187. 49:16doesn't mean you don't take their phone
1188. 49:17calls it just means that you don't
1189. 49:19necessarily actively reach out and
1190. 49:22make dinner appointments or whatever
  1191. 49:23just take a step back he's right yeah
  1192. 49:25that's good
  1193. 49:26so we've done that a couple times we're
1194. 49:28very very conscious of who we choose his
  1195. 49:30friends now very conscious and that's
  1196. 49:32made a massive difference yeah
1197. 49:34our friends have pushed our lives
  1198. 49:37forward in indescribable ways as a
1199. 49:40matter of fact I got to tell you just
1200. 49:42about every best practice we use in our
1201. 49:44lives and just about any category has
1202. 49:46come from the life book community the
  1203. 49:48amazing people that we've we've you know
1204. 49:51met over the last 10 years because of
  1205. 49:54this program they've they've added so
1206. 49:56much richness to our life it's crazy the
1207. 49:58life book community is awesome and what
  1208. 50:00kind of I mean I'm sure this was
  1209. 50:02somewhat intentional but unintentionally
1210. 50:04happened is they all connect with each
  1211. 50:06other right interact with each other's
1212. 50:08right end up working with each other
1213. 50:10professionally yep these are all like
  1214. 50:12sharing best practices we've been
  1215. 50:14talking about what's working and what's
1216. 50:15not working supporting each other
1217. 50:17through hard times it's awesome so all
  1218. 50:19of a sudden we've got this incredible
1219. 50:21social network that we never that we
1220. 50:23never had before and we've realized the
1221. 50:25value of this category and then the
1222. 50:28other side of it is that you got it be a
1223. 50:30good friend friendships require energy
  1224. 50:33period you know you you can't have a
  1225. 50:36great friendship if you're never gonna
1226. 50:37put time in it my friend Devers brandon
1227. 50:41says that the minimum requirement for a
1228. 50:44for a good friendship is two dinners per
1229. 50:47year you know like you know you're lousy
  1230. 50:50you're a lousy friend if you don't if
1231. 50:52you don't do at least that yeah totally
1232. 50:54all right moving ahead here and this
1233. 50:56makes sense building off the social you
1234. 50:58you really put a lot of time into
  1235. 51:00organizing category 9 your financial
  1236. 51:03life mm-hmm yeah financial is a
  1237. 51:07wonderful category I think a lot of
  1238. 51:09people have a lot of conflicting
1239. 51:11feelings and beliefs about this category
1240. 51:13they you know because I feel like the
  1241. 51:15way that we're we're taught you know
1242. 51:17that money or the love of money is the
1243. 51:20root of all evil the way rich people are
1244. 51:23viewed in our society is having sort of
1245. 51:25you know hurt people on the way to the
1246. 51:26top or taking advantage of people I
1247. 51:29that from a very young age the beliefs
1248. 51:33that we have around money that deeply
  1249. 51:35permeate our society represent a major
1250. 51:38emotional hurdle for a lot of people
1251. 51:41they got a they got to get over some of
  1252. 51:43their disempowering and frankly
1253. 51:45incorrect beliefs around money and we
1254. 51:48just get to Ground Zero it's true to be
1255. 51:50able to start building their financial
1256. 51:52life I mean to claim that the love of
1257. 51:54anything that loving anything is the
  1258. 51:56very root of evil that's it that's a
1259. 51:59frightening assertion especially in the
  1260. 52:01mind of a child and that's when we're
  1261. 52:02taught it's when we're kids right it's
1262. 52:04very confusing it twists you all up and
1263. 52:06then it does you have to undo all that
1264. 52:08when you become an adult right you know
1265. 52:10the weird thing is that a lot of people
1266. 52:13view money is the root of all evil but
1267. 52:15just about everybody wants more money
1268. 52:17exactly right yeah and so I think that
1269. 52:20the great equation in this category when
1270. 52:22you really understand where wealth comes
1271. 52:24from which most people don't and what
1272. 52:27money actually is which most people
1273. 52:29don't and this by the way is I think the
1274. 52:32single most profound category of life
1275. 52:35book is this is the category where
1276. 52:37possibly the most transformation happens
1277. 52:41in this program the great equation in
1278. 52:43this category is creating value for
1279. 52:46others inside of a financial model that
1280. 52:50works is how to create abundance for
1281. 52:52yourself so people can cheat people can
1282. 52:57steal people can be parasites and and
1283. 53:01they can get money that way but the
1284. 53:04bottom line is that at some point all
1285. 53:06wealth is created by producers producers
  1286. 53:12who created a product or a service that
1287. 53:16makes people's lives better or safer or
1288. 53:19easier something that creates value for
1289. 53:21the people around them before you can
1290. 53:24have a stock that you can short and you
1291. 53:26can have options on and you can trade
1292. 53:28and you can circulate before that whole
  1293. 53:30world is even possible
1294. 53:32somebody had to start the company that
1295. 53:35sells the product that people want and
1296. 53:38need that makes their lives better and
  1297. 53:39creates value for people that's where
  1298. 53:41all wealth
1299. 53:42from is human beings creating value for
1300. 53:46others period that is the fundamental of
  1301. 53:50wealth that most people don't realize
1302. 53:52so creating values creating value for
1303. 53:56others inside of a financial model that
  1304. 53:58works for you
  1305. 53:59so I've I've done probably let's see
1306. 54:02I've started at least 20 companies in my
  1307. 54:04life I've had big successes I've had big
  1308. 54:07failures and I've had everything in
1309. 54:08between and I've had the experience some
  1310. 54:11times where I've created a company
  1311. 54:14that's created a product or a service
  1312. 54:15that creates a tremendous amount of
1313. 54:17value for the people around me but
  1314. 54:19because I didn't have the the financial
  1315. 54:22model wired it didn't create abundance
1316. 54:25for me you've got to make sure that that
1317. 54:28not only do you create value for other
1318. 54:30people but that you at the end of the
1319. 54:32day have something left for you to to
1320. 54:34reward you what you deserve for creating
1321. 54:37that value for other people a fair price
1322. 54:39like you says right you deserve it's
  1323. 54:41exactly right so that's the fundamental
1324. 54:43equation for your financial life you
1325. 54:46want to get rich create as much value as
1326. 54:48you can for the people around you and do
1327. 54:51it in a way that rewards you at the same
1328. 54:52time the number of people you serve
1329. 54:55times the amount of value you create for
1330. 54:58them will come back to you if you just
1331. 55:02make sure that you've got that financial
1332. 55:04model in place that rewards you for your
1333. 55:07hard efforts to financial category in my
1334. 55:10mind is very very tied to spirituality
1335. 55:14because in order to create the most
1336. 55:18value in the world you've got to
  1337. 55:20understand what your talents are you've
1338. 55:22got to understand what your purpose in
1339. 55:23life is you got to reach down in your
1340. 55:25soul and find out what were you put here
1341. 55:27to do what's the best and highest use of
1342. 55:29you and then how can you express that in
1343. 55:32the world for the benefit of the people
1344. 55:33around you and yourself that's how that
  1345. 55:36how it's supposed to be mm-hmm
1346. 55:37right so those two categories financial
1347. 55:40and spiritual are very very closely tied
  1348. 55:43to
1349. 55:43for me well you know what else is
1350. 55:45closely tied to financial is category 10
1351. 55:47that's earlier career is career is huge
1352. 55:49yes well career is how you turn on your
1353. 55:52financial life right career is how you
1354. 55:54define yourself what do you do well
  1355. 55:55that's true what are you it's it's
1356. 55:58interesting and odd caster exactly what
  1357. 56:01are you you know I'm a personal
  1358. 56:03development dude I'm an entrepreneur I'm
1359. 56:05a CEO or whatever it is you know we in
1360. 56:08our society we spend so many hours doing
1361. 56:11our career that people literally refer
1362. 56:13to it as what we do yeah they do a lot
1363. 56:16of yeah I do a lot of different stuff
  1364. 56:17man I like to cook I work out I like to
1365. 56:20hang out with my cat like so here's the
1366. 56:24great equation in in career and this is
1367. 56:29kind of cliche it's kind of simple and
1368. 56:30everybody knows it but it doesn't make
1369. 56:33it any less profound what you want to do
1370. 56:35with your career to have a to have a
  1371. 56:37incredibly fulfilling rewarding career
1372. 56:40is you want to choose work that you love
1373. 56:42and you want to choose work that you're
1374. 56:45good at that's it so if you choose work
1375. 56:49that you love you're going to want to
1376. 56:52spend time doing it which is going to
1377. 56:54make you good at it right and if you
  1378. 56:57choose work that you're good at you're
1379. 56:59going to be successful doing it so the
1380. 57:00the combination the equation for
  1381. 57:04creating a successful career is to
1382. 57:06choose work that you love and you're
1383. 57:07passionate about and choose work that
1384. 57:09you are good at now that doesn't mean
  1385. 57:12you're gonna have a financially
  1386. 57:14successful career that's a different
1387. 57:16story in order to have a financially
1388. 57:18successful career you've got to hook up
1389. 57:20work that you love and you're good at
1390. 57:22with the financial equation of create
1391. 57:25value for others and do it inside of a
1392. 57:28financial model that works so if you
1393. 57:30want the whole package you will figure
1394. 57:33out how to do work that you love that
1395. 57:36you're good at that creates a tremendous
1396. 57:38amount of value for others and that is
1397. 57:41done instead of a financial model that
1398. 57:43works for you that's the career in
1399. 57:45financial package that is absolute with
  1400. 57:47a magical formula for abundance it's
  1401. 57:50awesome let me see here a podcaster I
  1402. 57:51got a good
1403. 57:52okay little financial model oh no we're
  1404. 57:57gonna hook better that's powerful stuff
  1405. 58:00I love it I love it we're almost we're
1406. 58:03coming to close here actually category
  1407. 58:0511 and this one's a little bit abstract
1408. 58:07to quality of life quality of life is
1409. 58:11abstract how we define your quality of
1410. 58:14life in life book is first and foremost
1411. 58:17it's the other 11 categories that we
1412. 58:20just went over right if if your health
1413. 58:22and fitness is highly compromised how
1414. 58:25much of a quality of life can you have
1415. 58:27if your love relationship is jacked up
1416. 58:29you know or if you haven't ever been
1417. 58:32able to figure out how to create
1418. 58:33financial abundance for yourself your
1419. 58:35quality of life is compromised so we
1420. 58:38have to assume that you've got the other
1421. 58:40eleven life book categories relatively
1422. 58:43in line before we even go into the
1423. 58:45quality of life category but then once
  1424. 58:47you've attended to the other 11
  1425. 58:50categories that we've just covered
1426. 58:51quality of life really entails the
1427. 58:54things that you want in your life you
  1428. 58:57know I collect art I collect wine I'm
  1429. 59:00passionate about contemporary art I love
1430. 59:04nice things I love quality things it has
1431. 59:09to do with the environment that you
1432. 59:11surround yourself by your home how nice
1433. 59:14is your home how much do you love being
  1434. 59:16in the environment you've created for
1435. 59:18yourself and the experiences that you
1436. 59:20want in your life world travel or you
1437. 59:23know cultural experience is like going
1438. 59:26to plays and things like that that's
1439. 59:28what we focus on a life book and and and
1440. 59:32you know I think Jordan that one of the
1441. 59:35challenges that we run into
1442. 59:38is a lot of people have a lot of guilt
1443. 59:41around having nice things they have
1444. 59:44emotional sort of dissonance yeah right
1445. 59:48around around driving a nice car and
1446. 59:51living in a nice home and and and
1447. 59:53spending the money that they have earned
1448. 59:56that they deserve on things that are
1449. 59:58nice for them yeah it's true so one of
1450. 1:00:00the things that we really try to do is
1451. 1:00:02we try to help people we try to you know
1452. 1:00:05get people to give themselves permission
1453. 1:00:07to enjoy the fruits of their labor well
1454. 1:00:11that's a good point you just said there
1455. 1:00:13that's kind of what it seems correct me
  1456. 1:00:14if I'm wrong but it's almost like
1457. 1:00:15quality of life is what we're working
  1458. 1:00:17towards exact we're working towards that
1459. 1:00:19vacation to go see that play you've got
  1460. 1:00:21it
1461. 1:00:21what we say in life book is quality of
1462. 1:00:24life is what it all adds up to exactly
1463. 1:00:26your quality of life is the barometer of
1464. 1:00:29how well you're doing in all the life
  1465. 1:00:32category it's a good point and this is
1466. 1:00:34one of my absolute favorite categories
1467. 1:00:36you know this is the fun one is the fun
1468. 1:00:39one is the reward at the end of the day
1469. 1:00:41for working so hard on ourselves so for
1470. 1:00:45me the most important thing is to give
1471. 1:00:48yourself permission to surround yourself
1472. 1:00:51with nice nice things to have a
1473. 1:00:53beautiful home to set it up just the way
1474. 1:00:56you want it to to have amazing
1475. 1:00:59experiences with people you love what
1476. 1:01:02are we here for if we're not here to
1477. 1:01:04enjoy ourselves to make the world a
1478. 1:01:06better place for them for the people
  1479. 1:01:07around it total it doesn't mean it's
1480. 1:01:08selfish the quality of your life that
  1481. 1:01:11doesn't that's not a selfish thing at
1482. 1:01:12all you know that quality is is for
1483. 1:01:16everyone I'd go so far as to say well
1484. 1:01:18I'm not gonna put this on everybody but
  1485. 1:01:20here's the way I feel about it I have a
1486. 1:01:23moral responsibility to live the best
1487. 1:01:25possible quality of life that I can like
1488. 1:01:28for myself and and and the people that I
1489. 1:01:31love the bottom line is I was given the
1490. 1:01:33gift of life I need to take this amazing
1491. 1:01:36gift that I've been given and live it to
1492. 1:01:39its fullest yeah I want people to look
1493. 1:01:41at me and how I live and I want that to
1494. 1:01:44be an inspiration that's that would make
1495. 1:01:46me very very proud if I could help
  1496. 1:01:49inspire other people
1497. 1:01:51to live better to make the world a
1498. 1:01:54better place by doing so so I think
1499. 1:01:56that's the most important thing in this
1500. 1:01:59category that we've run into is trying
1501. 1:02:02to smooth out the resistance to living a
1502. 1:02:09high quality of life and once you do
1503. 1:02:12that you got the other 11 categories in
1504. 1:02:14place you just flow right into an
  1505. 1:02:17incredibly enjoyable experience that's
  1506. 1:02:20huge
1507. 1:02:21all right we're wrapping it up here
1508. 1:02:22number 12 I like this one this is what
1509. 1:02:25life books all about its life vision
  1510. 1:02:27that's right
1511. 1:02:28well you know the Bible says without a
1512. 1:02:30vision the people perish and after we've
1513. 1:02:34gone deep into the 11 categories of life
1514. 1:02:36book and explored you know our
1515. 1:02:37fundamental beliefs in each category
1516. 1:02:40explored precisely with clarity what we
1517. 1:02:43want in each of these categories of our
1518. 1:02:45lives why we want it what's the purpose
1519. 1:02:48behind our desires and what our strategy
1520. 1:02:51is exactly what we need to do to make
1521. 1:02:54that happen in our lives to bring that
1522. 1:02:56into our lives across 12 categories what
1523. 1:02:59we do next is a really interesting
1524. 1:03:01exercise where we we take all of those
1525. 1:03:05desires that we've just defined and we
1526. 1:03:07ask ourselves okay what is all of it add
1527. 1:03:09up to what does it all look like what
1528. 1:03:12does that life look like what is my life
1529. 1:03:15vision what precisely kind of a life do
1530. 1:03:19I want to be living five years from now
1531. 1:03:21if everything that I just wrote in my
1532. 1:03:23life book came true if I'm able to bring
1533. 1:03:27all of that into reality how does that
1534. 1:03:29look five years from now and what we
1535. 1:03:33found is that that is your North Star
1536. 1:03:36that is your guiding light you you have
1537. 1:03:40to do all the work in the eleven
1538. 1:03:41categories even to be able to get there
1539. 1:03:43in the first place but once you get
1540. 1:03:46there and you can bring it all together
1541. 1:03:48and you go through this exercise of
1542. 1:03:51defining exactly what your life looks
1543. 1:03:52like five years from now
  1544. 1:03:54now you've got the plan you've got the
1545. 1:03:58Northstar you've got you know for your
1546. 1:04:00compass is is headed north and yeah
1547. 1:04:04you'll you might drift from time to time
1548. 1:04:07you can always come back to Center and
1549. 1:04:09what that does Jordan is a really really
1550. 1:04:12interesting thing what it does is it
1551. 1:04:16allows you to transcend making decisions
1552. 1:04:20in your everyday life from the
1553. 1:04:23standpoint of pleasure and pain which is
1554. 1:04:26how you know all the other animals on
1555. 1:04:28this planet make their decision it's the
  1556. 1:04:30Pavlov's dog thing is it's a pleasure
1557. 1:04:33and pain so instead of you know the meal
  1558. 1:04:37that I'm getting ready to eat it's gonna
  1559. 1:04:38be all about short-term pleasure
1560. 1:04:41I can transcend that now because I know
1561. 1:04:43exactly the kind of life that I want to
1562. 1:04:45live and that that life vision is so
1563. 1:04:48compelling and the gravitational pull of
1564. 1:04:50that is so powerful to me that I'm
  1565. 1:04:52willing to sacrifice a little pleasure
1566. 1:04:54in the moment for that long-term joy and
  1567. 1:04:58fulfillment of the life that I'm
1568. 1:05:01creating on this planet and that goes
1569. 1:05:03for how you treat your spouse that goes
1570. 1:05:06for how you raise your children
1571. 1:05:07that goes for how you work out everyday
1572. 1:05:10for your level of health and fitness
  1573. 1:05:12when you've got this crystal clear
  1574. 1:05:15compelling life vision that's pulling
1575. 1:05:17you forward you can literally transcend
1576. 1:05:20the pain pleasure response and live at a
1577. 1:05:22completely different level than most
  1578. 1:05:25people around you you're on a different
1579. 1:05:28programs do you know exactly what it is
1580. 1:05:31that you're trying to create in your
1581. 1:05:32life that is a huge life lesson that
  1582. 1:05:35most people probably never learn mm-hmm
1583. 1:05:38yeah most people are tossed around
1584. 1:05:41wherever the tide of life happens to
  1585. 1:05:43take them they don't have a clear vision
1586. 1:05:45for their life they don't know you know
  1587. 1:05:47it's interesting it's like there is a
  1588. 1:05:50there's a passage from Alice in
  1589. 1:05:52Wonderland that I love it's when the
1590. 1:05:55Cheshire Cat is talking to Alice and
1591. 1:05:57Alice is talking to the Cheshire Cat and
1592. 1:06:00she says to him he's sitting up in the
  1593. 1:06:02tree I'll never forget this I love that
1594. 1:06:04book she says Cheshire Cat can you
1595. 1:06:06please tell me where I ought to go
1596. 1:06:08from here and he says well that depends
1597. 1:06:11a good deal on where you want to get to
  1598. 1:06:13and she says well I don't much care
1599. 1:06:16where I get to and he says well but it
1600. 1:06:20doesn't matter which way you go and she
1601. 1:06:22says but I want to get somewhere and he
1602. 1:06:25says well you're sure to do that if you
1603. 1:06:27walk long enough Wow and that sums up
1604. 1:06:30how most people live their lives they're
  1605. 1:06:32real they just they don't have a road
  1606. 1:06:34map they don't know they don't have any
1607. 1:06:36clear compelling vision for their life
1608. 1:06:37which is why they need life book that's
1609. 1:06:39why they need life look I want to say
1610. 1:06:41this before we go you you know you're
1611. 1:06:43not gonna come out and say this but it's
1612. 1:06:45true life book has saved marriages it
1613. 1:06:47may have saved life it's saved health
1614. 1:06:50and fitness probably saved life sure you
  1615. 1:06:53know it's brought people out of
  1616. 1:06:54spiritual crisis it's allowed people who
1617. 1:06:56were very successful just to get their
1618. 1:06:58stuff in order you know here's that
1619. 1:07:02here's the thing about life book you
1620. 1:07:04can't bring this much consciousness to
1621. 1:07:07your life and not transform you you
1622. 1:07:10can't think this deeply about every
1623. 1:07:13aspect of your life and not shake
1624. 1:07:15something loose somewhere that gives you
  1625. 1:07:18that big breakthrough that you've been
1626. 1:07:19looking for and and just opens up the
1627. 1:07:22path to the life that you know you
1628. 1:07:25should be living but have never been
1629. 1:07:27able to reach and the person that you
1630. 1:07:29know you should become but I've never
1631. 1:07:31quite gotten there so so yeah you're
  1632. 1:07:34right Jordan and it's not you know it's
1633. 1:07:37not a new magical formula everybody has
1634. 1:07:39this inside of themselves life book is
1635. 1:07:42not some magical magical thing what it
1636. 1:07:46does is it helps each individual person
1637. 1:07:48really think through the life that they
1638. 1:07:51want to live on this planet the person
1639. 1:07:53that they want to become and design
1640. 1:07:56their own unique recipe for getting
  1641. 1:07:58there and I just I got to tell you I'm
  1642. 1:08:00just so incredibly grateful
1643. 1:08:03and appreciative that this came through
1644. 1:08:06me and that I was chosen to bring this
1645. 1:08:09to the world I am eternally grateful and
1646. 1:08:13humbled for that good man you should be
1647. 1:08:15you should be it's very powerful what
1648. 1:08:17you did it's helped a lot of lives it
1649. 1:08:19saved lives like I said everybody can
1650. 1:08:21get something out life book thank you
1651. 1:08:23well one of the things I think about
1652. 1:08:25life book that is is so authentic and
1653. 1:08:27and unique is that Missy and I had our
1654. 1:08:30life book for almost 15 years before we
1655. 1:08:33ever showed it to anybody we invented
1656. 1:08:36this for us we use this as a tool for
  1657. 1:08:38over a decade to create our
1658. 1:08:40extraordinary life and it was amazing
1659. 1:08:42and it was you know it wasn't until 12
1660. 1:08:46or 14 years after we started this
1661. 1:08:50process that we realized holy cow this
1662. 1:08:55is something that could help a lot of
1663. 1:08:56people you know a few of my friends
1664. 1:08:59asked me to you know if I could help
1665. 1:09:01them make one of these amazing books and
  1666. 1:09:05I said I don't know
