- 0:00What it takes to
- 0:00print nice 3D figure?
- 0:02Well, first of all,
- 0:03we need 3D model.
- 0:04And you might be
- 0:05under the impression that
- 0:06it's very easy and
- 0:07you can generate it
- 0:08and print it right
- 0:09away.
- 0:09Well, that might be
- 0:10true, but only for
- 0:12some small models that
- 0:13fit your printer printing
- 0:15area.
- 0:15So the second thing
- 0:16you usually need is
- 0:17to deassemble 3D figure
- 0:19for printing.
- 0:20And here things start
- 0:21to get complicated.
- 0:22But today I'm bringing
- 0:23good news for you
- 0:24guys, because we have
- 0:25crazy update from one
- 0:27of the best 3D
- 0:28AI for 3D printing
- 0:29specifically that helps not
- 0:31only split model into
- 0:33the parts, but to
- 0:34create right connectors and
- 0:35even arrange it for
- 0:37your printer.
- 0:38And all together, it
- 0:39allows us to approach
- 0:403D printing fast as
- 0:42never before.
- 0:43Let me show you
- 0:44the whole workflow and
- 0:45also give you some
- 0:46tips how you can
- 0:47address any issue and
- 0:49get it ready to
- 0:503D printing in no
- 0:51time.
- 0:52And right before we
- 0:52start, hit that like
- 0:53button and subscribe.
- 0:54Thanks in advance and
- 0:56let's get started.
- 0:57So for this video,
- 0:58I'm going to create
- 0:59this amazing mecha, which
- 1:00is from my favorite
- 1:02anime of all time,
- 1:04Gurren Lagann.
- 1:04And this guy basically
- 1:05is Gurren Lagann.
- 1:07And what's good about
- 1:08it is that I
- 1:09have to create it
- 1:10in parts because I
- 1:11want it relatively big
- 1:13and I actually want
- 1:14the drill to be
- 1:14bigger.
- 1:15I'm going to change
- 1:16it in the later
- 1:17stages and it's 100
- 1:18% not fitting my
- 1:19printing area.
- 1:20I'm using Elegoo Ultra
- 1:2216K.
- 1:23It has relatively small
- 1:24printing area, especially for
- 1:26big figures.
- 1:27So we're going to
- 1:27need to split it
- 1:28in parts, but first
- 1:29we need to generate
- 1:30it.
- 1:31For generation, you might
- 1:32know a lot of
- 1:323D AI, but my
- 1:34favorite still is Hightem
- 1:353D, which has recently
- 1:37renamed themselves into Hi3D.
- 1:39A bit of historical
- 1:40information from me is
- 1:42that these guys were
- 1:43actually the first to
- 1:44introduce 1536P resolution for
- 1:47mesh one year ago,
- 1:49releasing Spark 3D.
- 1:50And that time that
- 1:51was revolution.
- 1:52Right now, the quality
- 1:53alone is not what
- 1:54stands out, but they
- 1:55decided to make a
- 1:57great focus on 3D
- 1:58printing, which is amazing
- 1:59for us.
- 2:00And they released the
- 2:01tool called Split to
- 2:02Print, which we're going
- 2:03to use.
- 2:04So I already prepared
- 2:04all my reference and
- 2:06we're going to use
- 2:06Multiview.
- 2:07Here we have some
- 2:09image enhancement and remove
- 2:10backgrounds, use them on
- 2:12demand.
- 2:12That works pretty fine,
- 2:14but I used to
- 2:15prepare my reference to
- 2:16get 100% of
- 2:17control.
- 2:17I do have separate
- 2:18video about references.
- 2:20If you struggle with
- 2:21them, take a look.
- 2:22For the model type,
- 2:23of course we go
- 2:23with quality because we're
- 2:25going to split it
- 2:26and I want each
- 2:27part to have as
- 2:27much details, but we
- 2:29do not need really
- 2:30a texture.
- 2:31So we're going to
- 2:31go for geometry, right?
- 2:32For us, for 3D
- 2:33printing, that's not really
- 2:34needed.
- 2:35License, private and in
- 2:37advanced options, we can
- 2:38pretty much keep everything
- 2:40as is.
- 2:40I will only uncheck
- 2:42UV unwrap since again,
- 2:43we do not do
- 2:44texturing and that's pretty
- 2:46much it.
- 2:46So I did few
- 2:47generations and here are
- 2:49some options.
- 2:51And also Hi3D offers
- 2:52free retries up to
- 2:53three times, 100%
- 2:55use them.
- 2:56Generative AI is generative.
- 2:58So for something complex,
- 2:59you might want to
- 3:00do free retries.
- 3:01Then here are the
- 3:02options that you get,
- 3:03split parts, texture edit,
- 3:05but we don't really
- 3:06need that.
- 3:06So you can download
- 3:08it here or you
- 3:09can keep it here
- 3:10and we need to
- 3:11go to next feature.
- 3:12The next feature and
- 3:13the reason of this
- 3:14video is split to
- 3:15print.
- 3:15So we're going to
- 3:16go here and there
- 3:17are two modes.
- 3:18The first one is
- 3:19character and there are
- 3:21presets.
- 3:22You can select the
- 3:22model you created here.
- 3:24If you prefer generation
- 3:25and union, triple, you
- 3:26can bring it here
- 3:27and process, which is
- 3:29great, but my character
- 3:31is a bit more
- 3:31complex than this and
- 3:33I definitely want to
- 3:34split more parts.
- 3:35So let's find my
- 3:36character in upload.
- 3:38Okay.
- 3:38The model is selected.
- 3:39Now I'm going to
- 3:40choose professional mode.
- 3:41There is a tutorial
- 3:42that will help.
- 3:43And for segmentation, I'm
- 3:45going to go with
- 3:46low.
- 3:46Actually, low and medium
- 3:47is more than enough
- 3:48for printing because high
- 3:50really splits into a
- 3:51lot of parts.
- 3:52And then we're going
- 3:53to generate mask.
- 3:54So the mask is
- 3:55stepped before splitting into
- 3:56the parts so you
- 3:57can confirm amounts of
- 3:58parts.
- 3:58So it looks like
- 3:59this quite simple.
- 4:00And what do we
- 4:01need to do here
- 4:02is that I want
- 4:04to first separate the
- 4:06drill and also the
- 4:08shields on the shoulders.
- 4:10Well, not shoulders, but
- 4:11arms really, we also
- 4:12going to need to
- 4:13separate.
- 4:13So there are a
- 4:14bunch of tools here
- 4:14like LASO, splits and
- 4:17merge.
- 4:17Here in the instruction,
- 4:18you can see what
- 4:19they does.
- 4:20Basically LASO helps to
- 4:21add new parts like
- 4:23this.
- 4:23Split allow you to
- 4:24select one part that
- 4:26is already separated and
- 4:27split it like this.
- 4:29And merge is to
- 4:30select two parts and
- 4:31merge them by pressing
- 4:32the confirm.
- 4:33In my case, I
- 4:34just need to split
- 4:35parts because mostly it's
- 4:37all good.
- 4:37So we're going to
- 4:38need to split the
- 4:39drill and then we're
- 4:40going to need to
- 4:41split shields on the
- 4:42arms.
- 4:43If you did something
- 4:44wrong, you can always
- 4:45press mask record and
- 4:46revert.
- 4:47Well, that's pretty much
- 4:48it.
- 4:49We do have all
- 4:50the parts and we're
- 4:51ready to hit the
- 4:51generate.
- 4:52And here we go.
- 4:53Here's the result.
- 4:54There is a explode
- 4:55mode and we can
- 4:56review the result.
- 4:57And overall, the amount
- 4:59of parts is exactly
- 5:00as in.
- 5:00There are a few
- 5:01things that we need
- 5:02to address here is
- 5:03that there are some
- 5:05floating pieces that are
- 5:06separated with mask.
- 5:08But what we're going
- 5:09to need to do
- 5:10is just select them
- 5:11and join them with
- 5:12the object that they
- 5:13belong.
- 5:14So let's say in
- 5:15my case, it will
- 5:16be the object like
- 5:16this.
- 5:17And don't worry about
- 5:18holes.
- 5:18We're going to fill
- 5:19them because they're a
- 5:19special function.
- 5:21First, we're going to
- 5:21merge regions and make
- 5:23sure we do not
- 5:24have floating stuff left.
- 5:26Okay, all done.
- 5:27And now we have
- 5:28everything fine.
- 5:29No floating stuff, just
- 5:30the pieces that we
- 5:31need.
- 5:32And we can actually
- 5:33hit the fill face
- 5:34button that will actually
- 5:36cap holes in a
- 5:37very nice and smooth
- 5:38way.
- 5:38You can preview the
- 5:39results.
- 5:40In my case, everything
- 5:41is fine.
- 5:42And we finally can
- 5:43move to this new
- 5:44cool feature, which is
- 5:46configure connectors.
- 5:47It's available right from
- 5:48here.
- 5:49And don't worry, this
- 5:50progress will be saved.
- 5:51And you can always
- 5:52restart if you do
- 5:53something wrong.
- 5:53And this is an
- 5:55amazing tool.
- 5:56So first of all,
- 5:56you can see it
- 5:57show you the list
- 5:58of parts, you can
- 5:59explode them and review
- 6:00and we can start
- 6:01adding connectors.
- 6:02I'm going to press
- 6:03add all connectors and
- 6:05we can review them.
- 6:06There are three types
- 6:07of connector supported ball
- 6:09joints, pin and dovetail.
- 6:11Most of the time
- 6:12I use dovetail and
- 6:13not only you can
- 6:14set the shape but
- 6:15you can control scale,
- 6:16assembly fit, connection depths
- 6:18and angle.
- 6:19You can control them
- 6:20all at once or
- 6:22do it one by
- 6:23one and add it
- 6:24like individually with individual
- 6:26settings like angle.
- 6:28Let's say in this
- 6:29part, I want to
- 6:30connect it like this,
- 6:31then you can hit
- 6:32generate.
- 6:33And for arm, let's
- 6:34say I want ball
- 6:35joint.
- 6:35That's also possible.
- 6:37And you can do
- 6:37the settings that you
- 6:38really need here.
- 6:39Let's say I want
- 6:40it like this.
- 6:41And maybe I want
- 6:42it like bigger or
- 6:42smaller and stuff.
- 6:43And you cannot imagine
- 6:45how much time you
- 6:47can potentially save if
- 6:48you use this tool.
- 6:49In my case, I'm
- 6:50going to choose dovetail
- 6:51for all of the
- 6:53connections and hit generate
- 6:54button.
- 6:55Great.
- 6:55Here we go with
- 6:56the results.
- 6:57We can assemble it.
- 6:58Also, there is another
- 6:59preview mode, which is
- 7:01x-ray and we
- 7:02can actually see how
- 7:03tight the connectors go.
- 7:05You can control assembly
- 7:06fit parameter.
- 7:08If you choose loose,
- 7:09the hole will be
- 7:10basically bigger than the
- 7:11connector and the opposite.
- 7:13The tight will make
- 7:14it like one to
- 7:15one.
- 7:15I personally advise to
- 7:16keep some space because
- 7:18after printing, there might
- 7:19be some painting job,
- 7:21etc.
- 7:21And now we can
- 7:22see there's some extra
- 7:23space in x-ray
- 7:24mode.
- 7:25So from here, if
- 7:26you're happy with the
- 7:27result, definitely do the
- 7:28save and you're pretty
- 7:29much ready to do
- 7:30the printing.
- 7:31You can download it
- 7:32in any format that
- 7:33you want.
- 7:34Or if you use
- 7:35Bamboo Studio, Orca Slider,
- 7:36Elegoo Slicer, you can
- 7:37actually send it directly.
- 7:39I use Cheeto books,
- 7:40so I'm a little
- 7:41bit unlucky, but I
- 7:42definitely recommend it to
- 7:43try.
- 7:44You might think that's
- 7:44all, but no, there
- 7:45is one more cool
- 7:46thing, which is smart
- 7:47arrangement, which can help
- 7:49you to prepare your
- 7:50parts according to your
- 7:51printing area and do
- 7:53the distribution in the
- 7:54maximum efficient way.
- 7:55For example, for any
- 7:56resin printing, support minimization
- 7:58can be actually very
- 7:59useful.
- 8:00That of course can
- 8:01be handled by most
- 8:02of the slicing software,
- 8:04but to have it
- 8:05as an extra option
- 8:06is absolutely great.
- 8:07Okay, now let's go
- 8:08back to our saved
- 8:09model.
- 8:10And before we export,
- 8:11I want to show
- 8:12you one more thing
- 8:13is that here right
- 8:14away, you can add
- 8:14the base and they're
- 8:16pretty cool actually.
- 8:17So that's exactly what
- 8:18I'm going to do.
- 8:19I'm going to choose
- 8:19base 19 and we're
- 8:21going to put it
- 8:22on the bottom like
- 8:23that.
- 8:23And we're going to
- 8:24export it all together.
- 8:25And here, by the
- 8:26way, some other cool
- 8:26examples that are generated.
- 8:28This crocodile is absolutely
- 8:30sick guy.
- 8:30And yeah, you can
- 8:31see how I actually
- 8:33split it.
- 8:33You can generate it
- 8:34together with the base.
- 8:36That's not a problem.
- 8:37I just forgot to
- 8:38do that.
- 8:38And I just simply
- 8:39add it with a
- 8:40high 3D.
- 8:41Now let's export this
- 8:42guy and we're not
- 8:44going to start printing.
- 8:46Why?
- 8:46Because technically, yes, you
- 8:47can, but since this
- 8:48still is generative AI,
- 8:50there might be some
- 8:51imperfection that you want
- 8:52to address.
- 8:53And for this, I
- 8:54really recommend Blender since
- 8:56there's a free tool
- 8:57and there is a
- 8:58sculpting mode, which is
- 8:59absolutely insane, super easy
- 9:00and fun.
- 9:01And you can address
- 9:02any issue.
- 9:03Let me show you.
- 9:04So we're going to
- 9:04bring it to Blender.
- 9:05And by the way,
- 9:06we're going to need
- 9:07to create connectors for
- 9:09the legs.
- 9:09We're going to review
- 9:10that all the connectors
- 9:11are here and I
- 9:12just move parts and
- 9:14you can see everything
- 9:15is here.
- 9:16Everything as promised.
- 9:17It's absolutely great, but
- 9:19there will be always
- 9:21some stuff that we
- 9:22want to address.
- 9:23And as I said,
- 9:24we're going to go
- 9:24to sculpting mode.
- 9:26The first brush that
- 9:27I use almost all
- 9:28the time is smooth
- 9:30brush that can help
- 9:31you to address some
- 9:32imperfection.
- 9:33Let's say I don't
- 9:33really need this lines
- 9:35here, just smooth it.
- 9:37And by the way,
- 9:37before we continue, guys,
- 9:38if you're new to
- 9:39Blender, I have videos
- 9:40specifically for you.
- 9:42It's made for complete
- 9:43beginners.
- 9:44And just after one
- 9:45evening, you'll be quite
- 9:46good with Blender.
- 9:47Link is here.
- 9:48So as I said,
- 9:49smooth brush is what
- 9:50I use 50%
- 9:51of time.
- 9:52And also you can
- 9:52access it when you
- 9:53work in any other
- 9:55brush by holding shift.
- 9:57All buttons that I
- 9:58press, you can see
- 9:59here on the screen.
- 10:00Now, this also can
- 10:00help to smooth some
- 10:02creases like this.
- 10:03My second favorite brush
- 10:05is definitely grab or
- 10:07elastic wrap.
- 10:08There are both brushes
- 10:09that are so cool
- 10:10to use.
- 10:11Basically, it's like working
- 10:13with clay.
- 10:13Let's say I want
- 10:14to adjust the lines
- 10:16here on the drill
- 10:17and I just select
- 10:18the right size.
- 10:19Again, you can select
- 10:20the right size here
- 10:21in radius, or you
- 10:22can press F hot
- 10:24key and control the
- 10:25size.
- 10:26And as simple as
- 10:27this, I can easily
- 10:28adjust the shape.
- 10:29There's another brush called
- 10:30pinch that is made
- 10:32perfectly for these cases
- 10:33that will help to
- 10:35pinch and make these
- 10:36holes more narrow.
- 10:38And one more cool,
- 10:39cool brush that I
- 10:40want to show you
- 10:41called pose.
- 10:42And yeah, you might
- 10:43guess it helped to
- 10:45pose some stuff.
- 10:46It understands the shape
- 10:47of the object.
- 10:48And let's say I
- 10:48want to move the
- 10:49arm a little bit
- 10:50to the side and
- 10:52here I can see
- 10:53it draw the line
- 10:54and we can easily
- 10:55move it like this.
- 10:56Really helpful.
- 10:57Sometimes when you work
- 10:58in sculpting mode, you
- 10:59might face the situation
- 11:00when there are some
- 11:01stuff that you can
- 11:02not remove or smooth,
- 11:03or you can not
- 11:04make holes or draw
- 11:06on the mesh.
- 11:07Well, that happens because
- 11:08the mesh might be
- 11:09a limited by the
- 11:10polygons.
- 11:11And if we go
- 11:12to the polygon mode,
- 11:13you can see there's
- 11:14not much polygons to
- 11:15do some operations.
- 11:16That's totally fine because
- 11:18here in blender, there
- 11:19is remesh.
- 11:20All you need is
- 11:20to come up with
- 11:22the right voxel size
- 11:23and it will sort
- 11:24of recalculate the mesh.
- 11:25And then it will
- 11:26be easier to work
- 11:27with the mesh.
- 11:28Okay.
- 11:28If you want more
- 11:29details, just get the
- 11:31resolution lower, but don't
- 11:32go too low because
- 11:33it can freeze your
- 11:34computer.
- 11:35If you try to
- 11:36recalculate it into millions
- 11:37of polygons.
- 11:38And the last thing
- 11:39I want to show
- 11:39you is how to
- 11:40create connectors manually, just
- 11:43in case you need
- 11:44it.
- 11:44And so you see
- 11:44how much time we
- 11:46save using item.
- 11:47We're going to need
- 11:48to create box and
- 11:49the top part, we're
- 11:50going to scale it
- 11:52a little bit.
- 11:53Now it looks like
- 11:55a connector.
- 11:56Again, this size is
- 11:57up to you to
- 11:58select the right size
- 11:59that you think is
- 12:00more suitable.
- 12:01What we're going to
- 12:01need to do is
- 12:02to press control a
- 12:04and apply rotation and
- 12:06scale.
- 12:06That's going to be
- 12:07needed because we're going
- 12:08to use Boolean operations.
- 12:10And now we're going
- 12:10to need to place
- 12:11it in the right
- 12:11position.
- 12:12The trick here will
- 12:13be to create a
- 12:15duplicate of the same
- 12:16cube later and scale
- 12:18it a little bit.
- 12:19So the bigger cube
- 12:20basically will be a
- 12:21hole and the smaller
- 12:22cube will be a
- 12:23plug.
- 12:24And now we're going
- 12:24to need to add
- 12:25modifier called Boolean.
- 12:27So for the smaller
- 12:27cube, we're going to
- 12:28use a Boolean with
- 12:30a union and join
- 12:31it with the base.
- 12:33So it actually makes
- 12:34one object right now.
- 12:35And for the bigger
- 12:36cube, we're going to
- 12:36choose difference.
- 12:37Now, when we disabled
- 12:38the cube, we can
- 12:39see that there is
- 12:40a hole and don't
- 12:41forget to apply the
- 12:42Boolean modifier.
- 12:44So it's baked into
- 12:45the mesh.
- 12:45Well, pretty much that's
- 12:46it.
- 12:47Now we have connector.
- 12:48If you want to
- 12:49know more about this
- 12:50workflow in Blender, no
- 12:51worry.
- 12:52There is a video
- 12:52on my channel explaining
- 12:54exactly this workflow in
- 12:56more details.
- 12:57So check it by
- 12:58the link here and
- 12:59I wish you a
- 12:59nice creations.
- 13:00I, of course, going
- 13:01to do the same
- 13:02exact thing for the
- 13:03left leg and pretty
- 13:05much that's it.
- 13:06One last thing is
- 13:07to, I going to
- 13:08scale it to exact
- 13:10sizes that I going
- 13:11to print it.
- 13:12In my case, we're
- 13:13going to go for
- 13:1330 centimeters.
- 13:15Okay.
- 13:15So I going to
- 13:16add the measure here
- 13:17and scale it like
- 13:19this.
- 13:19Amazing.
- 13:20And final step before
- 13:22hitting the export button,
- 13:23select all the models,
- 13:25click control A and
- 13:27apply rotation and scale.
- 13:28That's very important.
- 13:29So your slicing software
- 13:31sees the exact size
- 13:32that you desire.
- 13:34Done.
- 13:34Now this size is
- 13:36it original size.
- 13:37Let's export each object
- 13:39as STL and get
- 13:40started with printing.
- 13:42Finally, technically, if you're
- 13:43printing something simple, you
- 13:44can completely skip the
- 13:46Blender parts, but I
- 13:47just want you to
- 13:48have full control.
- 13:48If something small goes
- 13:50wrong, I going to
- 13:51do resin printing, but
- 13:52same workflow works for
- 13:53filament printer.
- 13:54I would say even
- 13:55with filament, it's sort
- 13:56of easier to do,
- 13:57but here we go.
- 13:58I going to drop
- 13:59all of this in
- 13:59my slicer software.
- 14:01I use Cheeto box,
- 14:02but pretty much you
- 14:03can choose any other.
- 14:04I use the Cheeto
- 14:05box.
- 14:05I like the simplicity
- 14:06around it.
- 14:07I almost all the
- 14:08time now use automatic
- 14:10support generation.
- 14:11I really hate that
- 14:12process and it might
- 14:14take quite a while,
- 14:15but the bigger figures
- 14:16are the easier it
- 14:17goes.
- 14:18And yeah, after a
- 14:19while of figuring out,
- 14:20I cannot imagine how
- 14:22difficult it was like
- 14:23four or five years
- 14:24ago to do that.
- 14:25I'm relatively new to
- 14:273D printing.
- 14:27My background is more
- 14:283D.
- 14:29I can prepare anything
- 14:30in any way, but
- 14:31printing, well, there's a
- 14:33lot of details, how
- 14:34you place this support,
- 14:35how you're going to
- 14:36remove them later.
- 14:37Then basically we're going
- 14:39to start printing process.
- 14:40In my case, everything
- 14:41goes very smooth.
- 14:43Then we do the
- 14:44curing, cleaning, et cetera,
- 14:46et cetera.
- 14:46So you can see
- 14:47all the process.
- 14:48After that, the longest
- 14:50part of all of
- 14:51this is painting because
- 14:53I really want it
- 14:54to look very, very
- 14:55nice.
- 14:55Painting goes in two
- 14:56steps.
- 14:57First, we need to
- 14:58put the base and
- 14:59after the base is
- 15:00dried, then we can
- 15:01do the actual painting.
- 15:02This is my favorite
- 15:03anime from my childhood.
- 15:05And we're going to
- 15:06put some effort.
- 15:07Well, not me really,
- 15:08but my girlfriend helped
- 15:09me a lot with
- 15:10this one while I
- 15:11was working on another
- 15:12video.
- 15:13So don't forget to
- 15:13subscribe.
- 15:14It takes around few
- 15:15days to complete it
- 15:17in the most nicest
- 15:18way.
- 15:18And after that, we
- 15:20can enjoy this amazing
- 15:21results.
- 15:22Here we go.
- 15:23Really want to know
- 15:23what you think about
- 15:24the process.
- 15:25Drop the comments.
- 15:26I read all of
- 15:27them, guys.
- 15:28That was Steph.
- 15:29Like and subscribe.
- 15:30See you in the
- 15:30next one.
