9. 0:16modern ethics we'll go through all of

65. 2:02of my work i defend a liberal position
66. 2:05about early abortion so i defend the
67. 2:08view that there's nothing morally bad
68. 2:10about early abortion so a lot of people
69. 2:12think well it's permissible to have an
70. 2:14abortion but something bad happens when
71. 2:16the fetus dies
72. 2:17and i think if a fetus hasn't ever been
73. 2:20conscious it hasn't ever had any
74. 2:21experiences and we aborted at that stage
75. 2:24that actually nothing morally bad
76. 2:25happens what i think is that actually
77. 2:28among early fetuses there are two very
78. 2:31different kinds of beings so james when

80. 2:36you were an early fetus all of us
81. 2:39i think that we already did have moral
82. 2:41status then but we had moral status in
83. 2:44virtue of our futures in future of the

106. 3:31know whether it will be born you do not
107. 3:33know whether it will live to be 30 or 70
108. 3:36you don't know whether it will be hit by
109. 3:38a car when it's two years old or whether
110. 3:39it will die in childbirth you don't know
111. 3:41any of those things because you don't
112. 3:42know any of those things it has no moral
113. 3:44status but it would have retroactively
114. 3:46had moral status if you could go back in
115. 3:48a time machine
116. 3:49from now
117. 3:50to 30 years ago when you were a fetus
118. 3:53then you had moral status
119. 3:54or alternatively you're just speaking
120. 3:56absolute gobbledygook because
121. 3:58that's crazy it makes no damn sense
122. 4:01either the fetus has moral status or
123. 4:03does not have moral status and the moral
124. 4:04status of the fetus is not dependent on
125. 4:06going 30 years into the future to see
126. 4:08what happens to the baby especially when
127. 4:09the killing that you are doing is
128. 4:10happening right now also i love how she
129. 4:12just conflates miscarriage and abortion
130. 4:14as though these are the same thing the
131. 4:15spontaneous abortion of a fetus by the
132. 4:17human body is not the same thing as you
133. 4:19deliberately killing a healthy human

310. 10:10demonstrates they don't want to talk
311. 10:12about the issue because when they talk
312. 10:12about the issue people immediately get
313. 10:14uncomfortable and they get uncomfortable
314. 10:15because deep down in the human soul
315. 10:17something knows that there is something
316. 10:18deeply wrong with a society that allows
317. 10:20the killing of one million unborn
318. 10:22children every year out of a perverse
319. 10:24sense of authenticity and entitlement
