  1. 0:00gender roles for children are important
  2. 0:02gender is connected with biology why is
  3. 0:05it that primates like chimpanzees hey
  4. 0:08males and females act differently and
  5. 0:10have different genders is that because
  6. 0:12of the patriarchy the monkey patriarchy
  7. 0:14was it because of that
  8. 0:15well apparently according to the BBC the
  9. 0:17answer is yes according to the BBC all
  10. 0:18gender is connected with social
  11. 0:20stereotyping and so what they're going
  12. 0:21to do is torture a few kids to make sure
  13. 0:23that you know that you are actually a
  14. 0:25sexist so they cut a video over at BBC
  15. 0:28I'm so I'm sure taxpayers in Britain are
  16. 0:30super thrilled that this is what they
  17. 0:31spend time on here is here's the BBC
  18. 0:34reporting on taking a couple of kids one
  19. 0:36who's a boy and one is a girl and
  20. 0:37switching their clothing and then
  21. 0:39watching as adults treat them
  22. 0:40differently right because adults are not
  23. 0:42stupid enough to believe that boys and
  24. 0:43girls are the same
  25. 0:46[Music]
  26. 0:48this is Edward who's dressed as a girl
  27. 0:54actually that Sophie is Edward ah change
  28. 0:59anything I maybe thought this is a
  29. 1:01little girl so I have to give a little
  30. 1:04girl things fellow men hugely dominant
  31. 1:07career is prising maths spatial
  32. 1:09awareness
  33. 1:09our boys learn better at these or is it
  34. 1:11nature or is it nurture the answer is
  35. 1:14its nature if I tell you that he is
  36. 1:18actually a girl really yes oh I like I
  37. 1:22like the ladies look of disapproval like
  38. 1:24why would you do it suppose it's because
  39. 1:25of the stereotype and then that changed
  40. 1:28your behavior a child it's it and your
  41. 1:31behavior was quite narrative surprise
  42. 1:34sale automatically win for there the
  43. 1:36pink being fluffy toy because as soon as
  44. 1:38the girls though so docile stereotyping
  45. 1:40okay this is so stupid
  46. 1:42this is so stupid stop forcing okay stop
  47. 1:44this is so stupid oh I wish I would I
  48. 1:46thought I was more open-minded I
  49. 1:47immediately went for the gender
  50. 1:49stereotype toy you know why because
  51. 1:50babies I have a girl I have a boy you
  52. 1:52know what they prefer different toys
  53. 1:53they prefer different toys my boy
  54. 1:55prefers a lightsaber and smacking his
  55. 1:56sister with it my girl
  56. 1:58prefers actually sitting there and
  57. 1:59reading books and playing with dolls
  58. 2:00okay
  59. 2:01every so often shall grab the sword and
  60. 2:03smack a brother back but that's not
  61. 2:04because but that's not because she
  62. 2:07prefers that kind of toys there's such
  63. 2:08there's deep social science about toy
  64. 2:11preference okay it's so funny that they
  65. 2:12at
  66. 2:13Hasbro at one point tried a
  67. 2:15gender-neutral dollhouse they tried a
  68. 2:17gender-neutral dollhouse and you know
  69. 2:18what they found what they actually found
  70. 2:20is that the girls were taking the
  71. 2:21dollies and putting them to sleep there
  72. 2:22be all nice to the little dollies and
  73. 2:23the boys were taking dollies and
  74. 2:25catapulting them off the roof of the toy
  75. 2:27house because boys and girls are
  76. 2:29different the only reason my boy ever
  77. 2:31wants to play with anything that my
  78. 2:32daughter has is because my daughter has
  79. 2:33it that's legitimately the only reason
  80. 2:35now is it bad to reinforce these natural
  81. 2:40inclinations of children no would be the
  82. 2:42worst thing in the world my kid want to
  83. 2:43play the Dalton my boy no why would I
  84. 2:44possibly like try and steer him in the
  85. 2:47direction of playing with dolls when
  86. 2:48that's not something he wants number one
  87. 2:50and number two when I think it is very
  88. 2:51important to reinforce gender
  89. 2:52stereotyping I think some gender
  90. 2:54stereotyping is quite good not about
  91. 2:56what you can do and what you can't my
  92. 2:57daughter can be a scientist my daughter
  93. 2:58can be a doctor her mommy is but it is
  94. 3:00important to recognize that men and
  95. 3:02women are not the same and trying to
  96. 3:04undermine this by confusing a child is
  97. 3:06the stupidest thing I've ever seen but
  98. 3:08I'm sure it makes you feel better about
  99. 3:09yourself to believe that you have this
  100. 3:11much control over the world but you
  101. 3:12actually don't it turns out that men and
  102. 3:15women are very different in a variety of
  103. 3:17ways that extend beyond genitals and the
  104. 3:20fact that the left continues to propose
  105. 3:22this anti scientific nonsense that boys
  106. 3:24and girls are completely the same and
  107. 3:25that if we just retrain woman's who'd be
  108. 3:27more interested in engineering than
  109. 3:29suddenly the gap would disappear it's
  110. 3:30just not true it's just not true you
  111. 3:33know they've been trying this stuff in
  112. 3:34the Nordic countries and it's been
  113. 3:35failing dramatically there's no evidence
  114. 3:37that any of it works because in the end
  115. 3:40nature will end up winning it's it's
  116. 3:42it's all it's ridiculous and to do this
  117. 3:44to small children to dress up a boy as a
  118. 3:46little girl just so you can show parents
  119. 3:47oh my gosh look at you look at you're
  120. 3:49stereotyping why don't you just dress
  121. 3:51the boy in boy clothes because he's a
  122. 3:52boy it's important it's important now
  123. 3:55it's interesting people have this whole
  124. 3:57thing now about cross-dressing well why
  125. 3:58do you care if your boy wears a dress
  126. 4:00why do you care for doctor wears a white
  127. 4:02coat why do you care if you're a police
  128. 4:03officer
  129. 4:04wears a police uniform why do you care
  130. 4:06if you walk into the office dressed like
  131. 4:07a normal human being or dressed as a
  132. 4:08slob it turns out that clothes actually
  133. 4:10means something to give off social cues
  134. 4:12and not only do they give off social
  135. 4:13cues they also give you a uniform to
  136. 4:15identify with it is good that boys
  137. 4:17should identify with other boys it is
  138. 4:19good that girls should identify with
  139. 4:20other girls it is good that sexes
  140. 4:22understand the differences between the
  141. 4:24sexes and it is not bad
  142. 4:26to reinforce those things again this is
  143. 4:27not nothing to do with reinforcing lies
  144. 4:29about the capacity of women or anything
  145. 4:31of that sort but - but to suggest that
  146. 4:34it's good if a girl cross dressers or a
  147. 4:36boy cross dress it makes them more
  148. 4:37sensitive no it makes them more confused
  149. 4:39it gives social cues to people they
  150. 4:40should treat the boy as a girl and boys
  151. 4:42and girls are not exactly the same in
  152. 4:43treating them exactly the same you're a
  153. 4:44bad parent if you do if I treated my
  154. 4:46girl these act away I the same way I did
  155. 4:48the boy we know and I'd be a garbage
  156. 4:49parent because they don't want the same
  157. 4:51things they're not interested in the
  158. 4:52same things and it would be me being me
  159. 4:54me being selfishly stupid to do that
  160. 4:56turning everybody into these faceless
  161. 4:58widgets is the dumbest nonsense ever all
  162. 5:00these individualistic lefties who want
  163. 5:01to turn babies into widgets so they can
  164. 5:03treat them all as genderless neutral
  165. 5:04beings they're not these balls of slime
  166. 5:07that you can mold into any shape you
  167. 5:08want the idiots
