Full transcript
- 0:00It's a good question.
- 0:00>> 20 minutes of traps.
- 0:02>> [laughter]
- 0:03>> That's what this is.
- 0:04>> Here we go. Let's get to it, everyone.
- 0:06So, here's where I want to start. I
- 0:07understand from the Russos that just two
- 0:10of you got the full script. Is that
- 0:12right?
- 0:14Did the rest
- 0:14>> No, I don't know. I didn't bother to
- 0:16read it.
- 0:18Cuz I knew it was going to change.
- 0:19>> Oh, well.
- 0:20>> I got two scripts and threw them away.
- 0:22>> So, you ad-libbed the entire thing.
- 0:24That's
- 0:25understandable. Why not? But here's
- 0:26here's what Well, has So, have any of
- 0:28you seen the movie yet then?
- 0:30No one has seen a cut of the film.
- 0:32What? Well, maybe Oh, maybe.
- 0:35>> I'm on the inside track and it is
- 0:39absolutely fantastic.
- 0:42>> Is it as good as that Hall H trailer we
- 0:44just saw?
- 0:45>> It's like that except extra. And I'll
- 0:48I'll sidebar with all of you.
- 0:50>> Yes. Fill everyone in on it. Yeah.
- 0:52>> I think we may redeem ourselves yet.
- 0:54>> But for those of you who did not get the
- 0:55full script at this point, do you know
- 0:57what happens or you're all still in the
- 0:58dark?
- 0:59>> Wait, who didn't get the full script?
- 1:01>> We all got the full script.
- 1:02>> The Russos are lying to you to create
- 1:03some kind of story.
- 1:04>> Yeah, we have 50 versions.
- 1:07>> Oh, so that's the thing. Okay.
- 1:09>> Which script? Which one are you talking
- 1:10about?
- 1:11>> 49.
- 1:12>> [laughter]
- 1:12>> 49? Yeah, no. I
- 1:14Okay.
- 1:16>> We know what happens. We're not going to
- 1:18tell you.
- 1:19>> No, no. I'm not asking you to. I'm just
- 1:21curious like how much you know.
- 1:23>> Every single one of us.
- 1:25>> All right. [laughter]
- 1:26I That's just what I'm curious how much
- 1:28you guys get to know what everyone else
- 1:30is doing.
- 1:31>> if like we didn't know? Like what what
- 1:33is the
- 1:33>> Maybe a little bit.
- 1:34>> Yeah, I know. I think that's the thing.
- 1:35>> Yeah, maybe a little bit. No, but
- 1:36>> I didn't get the script.
- 1:38>> Perfect. Thank you. Glad to know someone
- 1:40does not know what's happening in this
- 1:41movie. No, so um but Robert, considering
- 1:44you're you're playing Doom, what
- 1:46noticeable similarities are there
- 1:48between Doom and Tony Stark? Like is
- 1:51there a through line between these guys?
- 1:53>> I I mean, there's the the science thing
- 1:56and then they're considered, you know,
- 1:58pretty brilliant guys.
- 2:01Um
- 2:01but Tony had the the trauma that kind of
- 2:04turned him into a hero, and and Doom's
- 2:07got the exact opposite to where it takes
- 2:11the prowess of all of these folks to go
- 2:14up against him, and it was uh it was a
- 2:17joy to behold. It was really weird being
- 2:19on the other side of a bad guy mask
- 2:21because it's just such a isolated vibe,
- 2:23and I'm seeing them all like socializing
- 2:26and stuff, and I'm I'm the enemy.
- 2:28>> Well, [snorts] that's
- 2:29right. Well, I was going to ask because
- 2:30you guys you've shared so many of these
- 2:32films together and had, I would assume,
- 2:34a very different working dynamic on this
- 2:36than those.
- 2:38>> You know, I was saying earlier it was
- 2:39almost like going back to 2011 on the
- 2:42first Avengers cuz at the beginning of
- 2:44that, you know, you're you're kind of
- 2:45the new kid on the block, and you're
- 2:46excited to even be there, and I would
- 2:47find myself during that movie
- 2:50uh watching. You know, you're in the
- 2:51scene, but then you're just like,
- 2:53you know, Robert Downey Jr. is playing
- 2:55Tony Stark, and oh, I have a line.
- 2:58>> [laughter]
- 2:58>> And on this one, I felt that a little
- 3:00bit again, just kind of watching you do
- 3:02this
- 3:03thing that I couldn't wait to see. I was
- 3:05like, all right, what's
- 3:07let's see it, you know, and
- 3:08and just kind of being uh a fan.
- 3:11>> Mhm. Does it Does the film, do the
- 3:13characters, do you all acknowledge that
- 3:15he looks like Tony Stark? Like, does
- 3:17that add emotional stakes to the action
- 3:20here that you're
- 3:21>> touch that. Just FYI, we can't touch
- 3:23that.
- 3:23>> Can't touch this.
- 3:24>> Uh please, you can continue singing. No.
- 3:27Uh okay, understood. All right, got it.
- 3:29Uh so, the answer's yes.
- 3:31Um no. Um
- 3:32Okay. Um
- 3:33Pedro, for you,
- 3:35Doom is what from the footage that we
- 3:38got to see today, Doom is from the
- 3:40Fantastic Four universe. Sue talks about
- 3:42him. They knew him. She thought she
- 3:43could help him. So, do the Fantastic
- 3:45Four feel a like a personal
- 3:47responsibility in any way for him being
- 3:50kind of unleashed on the world.
- 3:54>> No.
- 3:55>> [laughter]
- 3:58>> But you had to think about it.
- 3:59>> question.
- 4:01>> [laughter]
- 4:02>> I did have to think about it and the
- 4:03answer is no.
- 4:04>> Think about it because you don't want a
- 4:06sniper to take you out or really there's
- 4:08it's more complex than that.
- 4:09>> understand that we're all responsible
- 4:11for ourselves.
- 4:16>> [laughter]
- 4:18>> You're catching us at the end of a press
- 4:20day.
- 4:20>> [laughter]
- 4:22>> This is going to be fun.
- 4:23>> The world that we're in
- 4:24>> Uh-huh.
- 4:25>> and the way that I understand it through
- 4:27Reed at least um is very singular to um
- 4:32to to to
- 4:35the relationship that I have to Doom and
- 4:38and I guess there is a big barrier
- 4:40between the context that we all have as
- 4:43audience members to the experience of
- 4:45Avengers and the incredible way that all
- 4:48of it is threaded together as we have
- 4:51X-Men sitting with us um within this
- 4:53group but it's very easy for me to be
- 4:56very kind of like single focused um
- 5:00through the through the perspective of
- 5:02the characters as it relates to somebody
- 5:04like
- 5:05Victor von Doom.
- 5:08>> I just want to remind I just want to
- 5:10remind you to look into the camera as
- 5:12you're answering these questions.
- 5:13>> verging on filibuster. Would you like
- 5:15another one?
- 5:16>> [laughter]
- 5:17>> That was great.
- 5:18>> Yeah, no that was fantastic. Thank you.
- 5:19>> Did you
- 5:20I didn't I didn't catch I didn't catch
- 5:22Could you repeat it?
- 5:23>> [laughter]
- 5:24>> What did you
- 5:25>> I tried
- 5:25>> Just give me the short answer.
- 5:27>> No, but it was a great answer.
- 5:28>> Um for for you two guys in the in the
- 5:30footage um there's kind of a montage of
- 5:33the Avengers with their kids.
- 5:35Um
- 5:36are we safe in making an assumption that
- 5:40those kids are being highlighted because
- 5:42they might be a target in any way?
- 5:46>> I think we can't touch that question
- 5:48either. I'm really I mean
- 5:50>> I think you have the hardest job of all
- 5:51of us.
- 5:51>> I was going to say, since it's a really
- 5:52tough question that you have
- 5:54because I it's it's a good question.
- 5:56>> Okay.
- 5:57>> It's a good question.
- 5:57>> 20 minutes of traps.
- 5:59>> [laughter]
- 6:01>> That's what this is. But
- 6:04probably
- 6:05Doom wants to Doom wants to go after
- 6:07people where it hurts most. Is that a
- 6:11okay way of putting it?
- 6:12You want to He wants to get their
- 6:14attention in a in a
- 6:15very high-stakes way.
- 6:18>> Oh, man.
- 6:20>> We We Should we talk about the Odyssey?
- 6:23>> We can.
- 6:24>> [laughter]
- 6:24>> Actually, I haven't seen it.
- 6:25>> Who has seen it?
- 6:26>> Don't say anything yet.
- 6:26>> No, oh, you don't know how it ends.
- 6:29Oh.
- 6:30Okay.
- 6:30>> Tell them you're doing something really
- 6:31different. He's really nice.
- 6:33>> [laughter]
- 6:34>> Yeah, that'll work. That'll work. Okay,
- 6:36Rebecca.
- 6:36>> Yeah.
- 6:37>> Yes. Um, a lot has changed over the
- 6:39years with superhero makeup and and what
- 6:42can be done to transfer or transform
- 6:45someone um, in the way that you do
- 6:47specifically for Mystique. How different
- 6:49was it for you this time?
- 6:52>> Uh, apparently they were no longer
- 6:54interested in waiting for actors to be
- 6:56processed. So, it was much faster.
- 6:59>> Okay.
- 7:00>> Yes.
- 7:00>> Okay.
- 7:01>> Uh, that said, the original
- 7:03transformation that I went through for
- 7:04those first three X-Men movies was
- 7:06really imperative to that character for
- 7:08me. It really put me in just the right
- 7:10headspace to play somebody as angry as
- 7:13Mystique.
- 7:14>> [laughter]
- 7:16>> That makes a lot of sense. Yeah. Um, I
- 7:18it seems like from what we've seen in
- 7:20the trailer, there are some echoes of
- 7:21your classic uh, Mystique Wolverine
- 7:24fight sequence uh, from the original
- 7:26X-Men in your Doomsday fight sequence
- 7:28with with uh, Florence Pugh. How How do
- 7:31they compare, those fights?
- 7:33>> Uh, well, one's with Yelena and one's
- 7:36with Wolverine. So.
- 7:38>> That's
- 7:39>> Mhm. But, in terms of scale, in terms of
- 7:41>> You know, because we were with a
- 7:42different we were with Fox and these
- 7:44these are now a different studio. So
- 7:46actually Misty had a slightly different
- 7:50fight style back then
- 7:52than now.
- 7:53But I mean just as fierce.
- 7:56Just
- 7:57you know, it was really fun working with
- 7:59Lawrence and um
- 8:01I mean I think it's
- 8:02the secret's out it's out, right? It's
- 8:03in the trailer. I think we can say that.
- 8:05>> It was a big moment and you and and
- 8:08Kelsey being back. I have to say we just
- 8:10nerded out and I think it
- 8:13lit up this constellation of like
- 8:15excitement and like this couldn't have
- 8:17been easy to pull off. The story
- 8:18encompasses it and again having seen
- 8:22everything that I won't talk to you
- 8:23about it's it's just incredible.
- 8:26Incredible.
- 8:27>> Well, for the two of you thank you for
- 8:29teeing them up. Um you know, yeah.
- 8:31>> Thank you for that.
- 8:32>> The the original
- 8:34No, of course. Of course. I don't want
- 8:36you to either. But the original X-Men
- 8:37really paved the way for modern
- 8:39superhero movies. So
- 8:41what what is different about superhero
- 8:43movies now from when you helped launch
- 8:46them?
- 8:48>> Boy, I wish I could really answer that
- 8:50question. I
- 8:52I really enjoyed being an X-Man. I I
- 8:54really enjoyed being Beast. I love the
- 8:56character. I I love him. I
- 8:58I have a sense of this kind of nobility
- 9:01about him that he carries himself with a
- 9:04a deep respect for all life. So that I
- 9:07think translates into
- 9:09the superhero universe. I mean honestly
- 9:11I think that's what we're all here for.
- 9:13And
- 9:14it's extraordinary that the these
- 9:16characters have taken on
- 9:18a role in our society that actually
- 9:19reflects the same thing.
- 9:21It's this this goodwill.
- 9:23The the hope that actually there is
- 9:24goodness in all of us and and that good
- 9:26still triumphs. That's
- 9:29>> Yeah.
- 9:29>> pretty great.
- 9:30>> Well, you recently got to reprise your
- 9:33perhaps most iconic role Frasier. Did
- 9:35you ever think a day would come that
- 9:37this would circle back in your life?
- 9:39>> not, no. But it did break my heart 22
- 9:42years ago.
- 9:43>> Sure.
- 9:44>> And
- 9:44I, you know, whatever. My heart I still
- 9:47wear it on my sleeve.
- 9:48>> The public requires you.
- 9:49>> There you go. Right like that. Thank
- 9:51you.
- 9:51>> I heard it here first.
- 9:52>> Love it.
- 9:53Letitia, huge news with David Johnson
- 9:56joining the MCU as Black Panther in the
- 9:59third movie. A lot of people excited
- 10:00about that.
- 10:01We'd love to hear your reaction to his
- 10:03casting as Do we call him
- 10:05>> T'Challa Jr.? What What can we call him
- 10:06here? And
- 10:08>> Prince T'Challa exactly, yeah. And And
- 10:10what will that relationship be like with
- 10:12Shuri?
- 10:12>> Uh firstly, the news was really
- 10:14beautiful to hear
- 10:16because I I have a personal connection
- 10:19to to David.
- 10:20Um
- 10:21and
- 10:22just a special special person. Um good
- 10:25heart.
- 10:27And just to see the full circle of that
- 10:30today. I'm still living in it, you know,
- 10:32and we're both still like
- 10:35checking in with each other about it,
- 10:37but
- 10:39in terms of what Shuri means to him, you
- 10:42know, Shuri's gone through so much, you
- 10:44know, and in this film Doomsday, we see
- 10:47her growth. We see her,
- 10:49you know, fully in this position.
- 10:52Um
- 10:53as as Black Panther, but also like just
- 10:56a just a just a renewed woman, you know,
- 10:58and and powerful and and strong. And
- 11:02that leadership quality that she's
- 11:04she's grown up around, you know, with
- 11:06Ramonda, her mother,
- 11:08T'Challa, her brother.
- 11:10Um she now has that that mantle to pass
- 11:13on and those guidance and
- 11:15that wisdom to pass on. So it's it's
- 11:18beautiful to see the arc of this
- 11:19character. 2018 starting as this
- 11:22beautiful scientist in the lab just
- 11:24trying to help her big brother out to
- 11:26just elevating and growing and now being
- 11:29like
- 11:30a source of wisdom for, you
- 11:33for for her young
- 11:35her her young nephew is is beautiful. Um
- 11:38so, yeah, I'm going to have a a really
- 11:40good time, a lot of fun, and I'm going
- 11:42to pick on him so much.
- 11:45>> Did you guys know the news of David
- 11:46before today or did you find out pretty
- 11:49much
- 11:49>> very secretive on this camp.
- 11:51>> Yeah. Reaction from anyone else?
- 11:53About David? Yeah.
- 11:54>> I'm bananas over it.
- 11:56>> Yeah.
- 11:56>> I think it's amazing. I think he's
- 11:58amazing. I think he's joining an amazing
- 12:00amazing
- 12:01cast. Mhm.
- 12:03>> family
- 12:04>> Yeah.
- 12:04>> Yeah.
- 12:05>> Uh David and Louis, now that the new
- 12:09Avengers, as you guys are called, are
- 12:11you know, joining forces with the old
- 12:13Avengers, is there a is there like a is
- 12:15there a hierarchy? Is there a power
- 12:17ranking? How how do they their worlds
- 12:20blend?
- 12:23>> I mean, there's trouble, for sure. Like,
- 12:25we definitely approach things
- 12:27differently
- 12:28than those guys. And we have different
- 12:29ideas about how to do things. I mean,
- 12:32clearly,
- 12:33we are right,
- 12:35>> [laughter]
- 12:35>> but not everyone agrees with us.
- 12:39>> Yeah. No, well said. It's it's Yeah,
- 12:41it's definitely kind of a uh
- 12:43unexpected route to get to the same
- 12:45destination, but it's it's extra fun.
- 12:49>> Sure. Um
- 12:50I No, I
- 12:54>> Right. Here we go.
- 12:55Here we go. Thank you, Rob.
- 12:56>> Um
- 12:57Paul, if you [snorts] could answer this
- 12:59one for me. If you think about like
- 13:01Infinity War was this kind of race
- 13:03against the clock, this extreme game of
- 13:05hot potato, Endgame you could kind of
- 13:08compare to a heist movie, this really
- 13:10huge, you know, final showdown, then
- 13:12what is Doomsday? Is there a genre we
- 13:14could kind of look at to that?
- 13:16>> Yeah. No, no, thanks.
- 13:18>> [laughter]
- 13:20>> Um yeah, it's
- 13:22well,
- 13:24is there a genre? I don't know, maybe,
- 13:25but it's
- 13:27it does feel
- 13:28>> Rom-com.
- 13:29>> [laughter]
- 13:30>> Between you two.
- 13:31>> It
- 13:31It does feel unique. Like this one is
- 13:33like, "Oh, this has
- 13:35I haven't seen this.
- 13:38And I'm excited to see the film because
- 13:41I I know reading it and being there and
- 13:43working on it, it's like, "Oh, this this
- 13:45feels
- 13:47The enormity of it was apparent and
- 13:51and it felt just very fresh and and a
- 13:54little bit Like kind of what Chris was
- 13:55saying. It's like, "Oh, wow, this I I
- 13:58feel like it's my first day of school
- 14:00and um
- 14:02look at all of these people." And when I
- 14:04would watch scenes and things that were
- 14:05going on, it's like, "Wow, I haven't
- 14:07seen this before and this is really cool
- 14:08to be here." So,
- 14:10um what genre that is, I don't really
- 14:12know, but it's it's it's a good one.
- 14:14>> Yeah. Yeah. Um you guys have
- 14:17I guess of them all of you the most
- 14:19movies together, of course you two
- 14:21several, but when you started on this
- 14:23journey, did you feel Did you go into it
- 14:26feeling like there might be like an
- 14:27expiration date for when you would want
- 14:30to be done or was it kind of open-ended
- 14:33for you? We'll see what comes.
- 14:36>> Evans, that's got to go to you. You
- 14:38didn't even want to do it to begin with.
- 14:40>> It happened.
- 14:41Um
- 14:42Hm.
- 14:43Um
- 14:44you know, I I I don't know about an
- 14:45expiration date, but I certainly you
- 14:47when we finished Endgame in 2018, Lou
- 14:49and Kevin took me to dinner and they
- 14:51were like, "We'd love to keep doing
- 14:52movies with Steve Rogers as Nomad." And
- 14:54I said, "Okay."
- 14:56What do you got? And they they showed me
- 14:57a pitch and it was a great pitch.
- 14:59Um but for whatever reason, it just
- 15:00didn't feel right at the time. I kind of
- 15:02wanted to I was a little precious. I
- 15:04wanted to preserve it, but I just said,
- 15:06"Please keep pitching."
- 15:08Um and over the course of, you know,
- 15:10eight years, I probably heard at least a
- 15:11dozen pitches and and
- 15:14um they were all wonderful. It just
- 15:15never quite felt right and and you do
- 15:17start thinking, "Maybe this maybe this
- 15:19the expe- well, whatever it is, maybe
- 15:21this
- 15:22it's not right cuz it's just not right.
- 15:24And then I got a
- 15:25phone call from my team saying there's a
- 15:26rumor Downey's talking to Marvel. And I
- 15:29was like, "Uh-oh. What what does this
- 15:31mean?" And
- 15:32And
- 15:33all of a sudden it felt right. You know,
- 15:35Joe gave me the pitch and Downey was
- 15:36paying and it's just all of a sudden it
- 15:38was like this is
- 15:39this is it. So, I guess it's a never say
- 15:41never, but but
- 15:43you know, certainly not willing to just
- 15:44jump back in for anything cuz I think
- 15:46everyone here is precious with their
