Astrophysicist Avi Loeb on Pentagon's 4th UFO files release — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Well, the Pentagon today released a new
- 0:03trove of UFO files and of the 40 new
- 0:06files, 19 of them are videos. They're
- 0:09coming from the Pentagon, NASA, the CIA,
- 0:12the FBI, and the Energy Department. So,
- 0:15let's bring in Avi Loeb who now leads
- 0:17the White House UAP Council. Avi, what
- 0:20can you tell us? What's What's in these
- 0:22files? What are we looking at here?
- 0:24>> Well, first then thank you for having
- 0:26me. We see documents dating back to
- 0:291948-49
- 0:31when a conference took place in Los
- 0:33Alamos
- 0:35led by Edward Teller that was involved
- 0:38in the Manhattan Project earlier.
- 0:40And it involves quite distinguished
- 0:43physicists talking about green
- 0:45fireballs that they cannot figure out,
- 0:48some objects moving horizontally.
- 0:50And so, these objects remained
- 0:54unresolved. And then we're seeing a
- 0:57number of videos
- 0:58from recent years where
- 1:01unidentified objects appear.
- 1:04For example, there is an object that
- 1:07makes a 90 degrees
- 1:09change in its trajectory, very abrupt,
- 1:12and becomes a very thin line on the
- 1:15image. It's unclear what this object
- 1:17what this object is. Then there is
- 1:19another one that looks like a formation
- 1:21front of a multiple objects
- 1:24moving together through the clouds and
- 1:26we can't really tell what these objects
- 1:29are. Um and um
- 1:31you know, there are a number of those
- 1:33that look like real objects, but there
- 1:35is not enough information. And of
- 1:37course, one objective of the council
- 1:39that I'm leading that serves as an
- 1:41advisory
- 1:43council to the US government is to
- 1:45suggest new instruments, new sensors
- 1:48that would allow us to collect new data
- 1:50in the future that will get to the
- 1:52bottom of it, figure out what the nature
- 1:54of of objects
- 1:56is because, you know, if these are
- 1:58technological objects, there are two
- 1:59possibilities. Either they were sent by
- 2:02adversarial nations, in which case they
- 2:04are a matter of national security, or
- 2:07this is the biggest discovery ever made
- 2:09in science. We see technological
- 2:12artifacts that is that are of non-human
- 2:15origin. So, in both cases, we have to
- 2:18figure it out, and of course, the best
- 2:20way to do that is by getting better
- 2:22data. And, you know, these releases
- 2:25follow the directive from President
- 2:27Trump a few months ago, and
- 2:31it's a great blessing both to national
- 2:33security and to science, and I'm really
- 2:35happy to partner with government in
- 2:37trying to figure them out.
- 2:39>> I think Avi Loeb puts the untrained eye
- 2:41when you look at some of these videos,
- 2:42they all kind of start to look the same.
- 2:44They're kind of grainy, it's sort of
- 2:46this odd-looking either balloon object,
- 2:49or the sort of weird orb there in the
- 2:51sky. And I'm curious, are you seeing
- 2:54stark differences between what was
- 2:56released today and say files that were
- 2:58released in the past? The one that
- 3:00stands out to me, I will tell you, is
- 3:02the one that sort of is that Star
- 3:03Trek-looking
- 3:05object thing. We were joking that it
- 3:07looks like something out of Superman,
- 3:08that maybe he flew down from Krypton on.
- 3:11Anything else that sort of sparked your
- 3:13interest that says, "Oh, wait, we might
- 3:15have something here that maybe prove
- 3:17some of these theories, or maybe
- 3:19disprove them?"
- 3:21>> No, at this time, there is no single
- 3:24video image, or any other data that
- 3:27indicates a non-human origin for any of
- 3:29these objects. The star-looking object
- 3:32that you mentioned could be just a
- 3:33diffraction pattern that is often found
- 3:36in the optics of cameras. So,
- 3:39I would say at the moment, there is no
- 3:41conclusive evidence, but the good news
- 3:43is that
- 3:44the best is yet to come, that that there
- 3:47is
- 3:47classified data that probably is much
- 3:49richer and more convincing. You know, a
- 3:51high-resolution image of one of these
- 3:53objects would be very revealing. And the
- 3:56fact that the US government, those
- 3:57people in the White House, the Office of
- 4:00the Director of National Intelligence,
- 4:02the Pentagon, and the Intelligence
- 4:04Community, and the FBI, the fact that
- 4:06they are reaching out to scientists like
- 4:08myself to try and help them figure it
- 4:11out implies, in my mind, that
- 4:14they believe that some of these objects
- 4:16cannot be human-made. Cuz otherwise,
- 4:18they would put the report in a
- 4:21classified memo to the Secretary of War,
- 4:23Pete Hoekstra, they would not ask me as
- 4:26a scientist to help them figure it out.
- 4:29So, I think we are heading in a an
- 4:31interesting direction and
- 4:33into the future. The future is better
- 4:34than the past and we will figure it out
- 4:38using the scientific method by
- 4:40collecting more evidence. It's not a
- 4:42matter of opinions. We should not pay
- 4:44attention to social media. You know,
- 4:46this is a scientific matter trying to
- 4:48figure out the nature of these objects
- 4:50and we'll get to the bottom of it. And
- 4:52this is much more inspiring than the
- 4:55script of Steven Spielberg in the recent
- 4:58movie Disclosure Day because over there,
- 5:01the government fights scientists and
- 5:04crashes their car against the moving
- 5:06train. My car is completely intact and I
- 5:09feel privileged to help the US
- 5:10government, you know, as an American
- 5:12citizen
- 5:14at the very least fulfill its mission in
- 5:16maintaining national security.
- 5:19>> Well, I hope we can talk to you each
- 5:20time these batch of files are are
- 5:22released to help us make sense of it.
- 5:24Avi Loeb, thank you so much.
- 5:26>> Thanks for having me.
