- 0:00Hello. Well, we made it. Ubisoft has
- 0:03finally graced us with a remake of one
- 0:05of their games. Though, it’s unclear
- 0:06why it had to be the fourth part.
- 0:08It’s not that old, and it still plays
- 0:10pretty well even today. Unlike, for
- 0:12example, the Ezio trilogy or the first
- 0:14game, which had a lot cut out of it at
- 0:16release. But, whatever, Assassin's
- 0:18Creed 4 is also a respected and beloved
- 0:20game of mine. Actually, you could
- 0:22rightfully say, "Dude, didn't you
- 0:23already make a video on the fourth
- 0:24Assassin's?" Well, I'll say that, first
- 0:26, running a channel for people with
- 0:28Alzheimer's is awesome, and second, if
- 0:30Ubisoft can do it, why can't I? Exactly
- 0:32. Actually, I’ve had a few ideas for
- 0:34a long time to replay some games and
- 0:35remake videos about them. And,
- 0:37ironically, Assassin's Creed 4 wasn't
- 0:39on that list. But I still want to play
- 0:41the remake, because, as I said, I love
- 0:43the original. Plus, I heard that
- 0:45Ubisoft did add some new content, and
- 0:47what’s more, there's something else
- 0:49linked to Assassin's Creed 4. The video
- 0:51for this game was my first video that
- 0:53got any sort of halfway decent views.
- 0:56And, you could say it was the starting
- 0:58point for my career as a world-famous
- 1:00[ __ ] who plays video games and then
- 1:01dumps it all onto the internet. Because
- 1:04if it weren't for this game, everything
- 1:05might have turned out differently, and
- 1:06I wouldn't be sitting here right now.
- 1:08Oh, no. I would be somewhere in Monaco,
- 1:11maybe even in San Francisco, sitting on
- 1:13a yacht, sipping champagne in the
- 1:15company of Ana de Armas. But instead, I
- 1:18decided to play Assassin's Creed.
- 1:21Ruined my whole life. Alright, as I
- 1:23said, today we'll be looking at the
- 1:24remake of the fourth installment. And
- 1:26I'll say right away, even though I
- 1:28already did a video on its plot, I'm
- 1:29still going to tell it in full. Well,
- 1:31because otherwise, it would look a bit
- 1:34strange. So, without further ado, get
- 1:36comfortable. Fill up your trough, hop
- 1:39on the Telegram, I'll be glad to have
- 1:41you. Naturally, enjoy the show,
- 1:43everyone. But before we start, I think
- 1:45it's no secret to many that the
- 1:47protagonist of Assassin's Creed: Black
- 1:48Flag, Edward, really wanted to earn
- 1:50some money. That’s basically the
- 1:52reason he even became a pirate in the
- 1:53first place. Thankfully, everything is
- 1:55simpler now. No need to plunder ships,
- 1:57get sick with scurvy, or whatever else
- 1:59pirates did back then. Everything is
- 2:01different now. You can save money in a
- 2:03more civilized and modern way. And the
- 2:05Black debit card from T-Bank will help
- 2:07with that perfectly. It’s basically
- 2:10magical, because you spend money and
- 2:12get up to 3,000 rubles back in cashback
- 2:14. with real, tangible money, not some
- 2:18random bonuses that technically exist,
- 2:20but where to spend them is anyone's
- 2:22guess. Payments and transfers are free,
- 2:25with 24/7 support via chat and phone
- 2:28faster than a Formula 1 pit crew. Cash
- 2:30withdrawals are free from 3,000 rubles.
- 2:33at any ATM. And the best part is,
- 2:35they'll bring the card right to you. A
- 2:37courier will come to your home or work,
- 2:39or even your dad's garage, and activate
- 2:41everything so you don't have to run
- 2:42around town. So, sign up for a Black
- 2:44debit card from the bank using the link
- 2:47in the description and get real
- 2:48cashback in rubles. Basically, the game
- 2:50, just like the original, starts at sea
- 2:52. The ship our protagonist, Edward, was
- 2:55sailing on was attacked by some, excuse
- 2:57my language, [ __ ], including this
- 2:59guy in a hood. No time to dither, so I
- 3:01had to take the wheel, pull some
- 3:03maneuvers, and quickly blast everyone
- 3:04with the cannons. And it seems I
- 3:06handled that well. I want to say, "
- 3:08Hooray, victory." But fate had other
- 3:10plans. Gunpowder exploded on the hero's
- 3:12ship. Then that assassin guy finished
- 3:14off the captain. In a word, total
- 3:16disaster. While Edward is floating in
- 3:18the deep sea, a flashback occurs. And
- 3:20by the way, get ready for that. They
- 3:21will be constant throughout the game.
- 3:23And yes, I know you already know this,
- 3:25since you've played through the fourth
- 3:26installment more than once, but listen,
- 3:27damn it, try to understand my position
- 3:29too. Let's just play along, like we're
- 3:30all seeing this for the first time.
- 3:32Okay. Actually, in these flashbacks, we
- 3:34are introduced to Edward's wife,
- 3:36Caroline. At the moment, Caroline, like
- 3:38a proper woman, is riding Edward's ass
- 3:39about why the hell he wants to be a
- 3:41privateer. "Join the Royal Navy, it’s
- 3:44got a salary, rank, this, and, damn it,
- 3:46that." But Eddie is against it, arguing
- 3:49that he’s not about to break his back
- 3:50for peanuts or serve some captain. But
- 3:53privateering, that's a solid gig. You
- 3:55can move up, Edward can become a
- 3:57captain himself and earn a ton of money
- 4:00. This sort of answers the question of
- 4:02how Edward ended up in this pirate life
- 4:04. And it's all very simple. Old boy
- 4:06wanted money to provide a decent life
- 4:08for himself and his wife. Yes, in case
- 4:10you were wondering, a privateer is
- 4:11something like a legalized pirate.
- 4:13Meaning, they are pirates who received
- 4:15a license from a state, and that very
- 4:17state allowed them to capture and loot
- 4:18ships of countries with which they had
- 4:20conflicts. Uh, just keeping you in the
- 4:23loop. In the present, the hero washed
- 4:25up on an island, and by a happy
- 4:27coincidence, the assassin who attacked
- 4:28the ship ended up there too. This guy
- 4:30is wounded, and from a brief dialogue,
- 4:32it turns out he urgently needs to get
- 4:34to Havana. It's a town. Edward was
- 4:36about to shake him down for a few coins
- 4:38for his help, but Duncan pulled out a
- 4:40piece and, shouting "I'll shoot you,
- 4:42prick," ran off somewhere. Not for long
- 4:44. Edward caught up to him and beat him
- 4:46up a little. Duncan had a letter on him
- 4:48saying he had made a deal to meet the
- 4:50Governor of Havana. And very
- 4:52conveniently, that very governor had
- 4:54never seen Duncan in person. So Edward
- 4:56decided to pose as Duncan. Maybe this
- 4:59little venture would rake in some cash.
- 5:01But that’s not all, because a
- 5:03merchant ship was also parked at this
- 5:05island. Need to quickly take out the
- 5:07guards and rescue the ship's owner from
- 5:09captivity. Meet Stede Bonnet, a
- 5:11merchant, sailor, and, by the way, a
- 5:13real historical figure. As it turned
- 5:15out, he and our hero were headed the
- 5:17same way. Bonnet’s ship driver had
- 5:18fed him to the fish, so Edward kindly
- 5:20offered to help. The boys set sail for
- 5:22Havana together. And what do you think?
- 5:24Ubisoft presents Assassin's Creed 4:
- 5:26Black Flag. How to pronounce this word,
- 5:29I have no bloody clue. Oh, right, the
- 5:32men arrived in Havana, and now we're
- 5:34having the prologue. And you know, I
- 5:36can't stand it. As is the custom with
- 5:38Ubisoft, the prologue in the game is
- 5:40very long. And since the remake follows
- 5:42everything literally scene by scene,
- 5:44watching all this bustle in Havana
- 5:46isn't exactly interesting. No, like,
- 5:48the first time you play it, it's okay.
- 5:51But I personally have this problem:
- 5:52when I think about replaying Black Flag
- 5:54, I want to, well, obviously, fight on
- 5:56ships, swim for treasure, capture forts
- 5:58, but, goddamn it, you're back in
- 5:59Havana, you have to catch a pickpocket
- 6:01again, show off assassin tricks for
- 6:03Templars again, protect some old man
- 6:05from assassins again, and so on. I
- 6:07don't give a crap about any of that. Be
- 6:09it a remake, VR, or 5D immersion,
- 6:11playing through all this more than once
- 6:12is a total pain in the ass. I’ll play
- 6:14through it all, of course. I’m a
- 6:15whiner, not a weakling, so I’ll
- 6:17manage, but you’ll get tired of
- 6:19hearing how miserable I was during the
- 6:20process. So let's keep it brief. Anyway
- 6:23, Edward stumbled into the estate where
- 6:25the governor lives, and Ed was suddenly
- 6:26received with honors. They say: "Come
- 6:28on in, dear friend, you’ll be our
- 6:29guest. Everyone has been waiting for
- 6:31you." And "everyone," as you can
- 6:32imagine, means the Templars. Here’s
- 6:34this guy named Julien du Casse. He’s
- 6:36a smuggler and supplies the local
- 6:38cross-bellies with weapons. And the
- 6:39freak with the scar is Woodes Rogers. A
- 6:42pirate hunter and some kind of bigwig
- 6:44at the English King’s court. In short
- 6:46, the cream of local society. And to
- 6:48amuse these pricks, I have to show off
- 6:50my assassin skills. Understood? It will
- 6:52be done. The monkey is going to dance.
- 6:55Tra-la-la. The governor is this old guy
- 6:58named Laureano Torres. As it turns out,
- 7:00Duncan Walpole wasn't just heading to a
- 7:02meeting. He was supposed to deliver
- 7:04maps showing the locations of Assassin
- 7:06hideouts and this piece of glass junk.
- 7:08Why? They're about to explain.
- 7:09Basically, there's this thing called
- 7:11the Observatory. And inside this very
- 7:14Observatory, there's a device that lets
- 7:16you track any person on Earth. You just
- 7:18need to put a drop of their blood into
- 7:20this cube, then put the cube into the
- 7:22device, and that's it—easy as that.
- 7:24However, there is a problem. My new
- 7:25friends don't know where this
- 7:27Observatory is located. According to
- 7:29legends, only a Sage can find the way
- 7:31there. What kind of crap that is, I'll
- 7:32explain later. By the way, you can
- 7:34actually meet this Sage here and, so to
- 7:36speak, get a piece of him. As it turns
- 7:39out, the Templars found him, and in the
- 7:40very next mission, you have to relocate
- 7:42him to Torres's estate while fighting
- 7:44off Assassins. And after that mission,
- 7:47Edward thought, "Damn, if this
- 7:49Observatory is so important and the
- 7:51Sage knows how to get there, maybe it's
- 7:53better to steal him and sell him to
- 7:54someone else, since the Templars didn't
- 7:56exactly fill my pockets." So, under the
- 7:59cover of night, Edward carefully snuck
- 8:01into the prison where the Sage was
- 8:03being held. But then, an unexpected
- 8:05twist occurred. The Templars, those
- 8:07bastards, were prepared. They figured
- 8:09out that Edward wasn't Duncan Walpole
- 8:11at all. Just some Eddie, a nobody. And
- 8:14it also turned out that someone had
- 8:15beaten Edward to it, and the Sage had
- 8:17already been snatched. The Templars,
- 8:18naturally, blamed our hero, so they
- 8:20dragged him onto a ship and threw him
- 8:22in the hold. And then, what happens?
- 8:24That's right, a flashback. Edward's
- 8:26wife fell ill, and Edward decided to
- 8:27spoil her a little. He brought her some
- 8:29hot chocolate. To be honest, I don't
- 8:32remember this scene in the original,
- 8:34but it actually looks funny and shows
- 8:36the huge wealth gap between Caroline
- 8:37and Edward.
- 8:55Gentlemen, this is pure cinema. This,
- 8:58guys, is something you have to see.
- 9:00This isn't just you messing around with
- 9:01some nonsense. Through this scene, they
- 9:04show us that Caroline is a fairly
- 9:06wealthy lady, and Edward is just some
- 9:08street kid. Just a stray vagabond, for
- 9:12whom the word "chocolate" is mainly a
- 9:15shock. That's our Edward, you know—
- 9:18without a penny to his name, not a dime
- 9:21in his pocket. Actually, all jokes
- 9:23aside, I really like these flashbacks,
- 9:24and I'm really annoyed that Ubisoft
- 9:26didn't add more of them here. And back
- 9:28in the present, everything is like the
- 9:30original. Edward is in prison again.
- 9:31There, he meets Adéwalé. They escape
- 9:34captivity, rescue the other sailors,
- 9:35and eventually, after commandeering one
- 9:37of the ships, they hit the gas while
- 9:39they’re distracted and head off into
- 9:40the sunset. In the end, Edward and his
- 9:43new crew managed to fight off the
- 9:44English fleet and survive a storm. And
- 9:47so, it turns out that the hero now has
- 9:49both a ship and a crew. So now he’s
- 9:52the captain. Adéwalé certainly made
- 9:55an impact, but, how should I put it, he
- 9:57was born in the wrong year, damn it, so
- 9:59he won’t be captain, but as a
- 10:00quartermaster? By all means. And now
- 10:03Edward and his crew are off to Nassau.
- 10:06A paradise for pirates, privateers,
- 10:08thieves, and other fine upstanding
- 10:10members of society. Nassau is an island
- 10:12that is completely controlled by
- 10:14pirates. And not just controlled; they
- 10:16decided to set up their own separate
- 10:18republic there, where the laws of kings
- 10:19don’t apply and where you can just
- 10:21drink, fight, and do absolutely nothing
- 10:23. But that’s not important right now.
- 10:25What’s far more important is that the
- 10:26game, goddamn it, has finally begun.
- 10:28Yes, there will be another 3 hours of
- 10:29tutorials, but at least now you can
- 10:31sail around and do all sorts of things.
- 10:32And before I started playing, I saw
- 10:34some shorts—actually, a few shorts—
- 10:36where guys showed gameplay of the
- 10:37remake and inserted moments from
- 10:39Ratatouille. And you know, yeah, when I
- 10:41launched this game, I had the same
- 10:43reaction as in Ratatouille. That moment
- 10:45when the critic tries the ratatouille
- 10:46himself. Oh, by the way, here’s a fun
- 10:47fact in case someone doesn't know:
- 10:48Ratatouille isn’t the name of the rat
- 10:50, it’s the name of the dish. He’s
- 10:51thinking: "Holy hell, did he just eat a
- 10:53rat? Damn." Anyway, my point is that
- 10:55it’s time to really dig into this.
- 10:56The plot, as I said, hasn’t been
- 10:58touched. It’s exactly the same as in
- 10:59the original. And so the question is:
- 11:01did Ubisoft even put anything new in
- 11:02here at all? Actually, yes. But it
- 11:05mostly concerns side activities. So, in
- 11:07fact, it’s the same game, just,
- 11:09let’s say, a director’s cut. All
- 11:11the things that entertained us before
- 11:14are still there, like forts, assassin
- 11:16contracts, hunting Templars, ship
- 11:18contracts, legendary ships, hunting sea
- 11:20monsters, underwater exploration, and
- 11:22so on. Ubisoft expanded the quest for
- 11:24upgrading the estate. Now it’s
- 11:26actually a quest, not just some
- 11:27[ __ ] meant to generate passive
- 11:29income. They added a few missions about
- 11:31the main character’s friends. They
- 11:32also added a couple of story characters
- 11:34here. These are officers who will serve
- 11:36on Edward’s ship, and there are
- 11:38quests involving them too. And at the
- 11:40end, there will even be, let’s call
- 11:41it, a grand overarching quest that’s
- 11:42quite long. Thank the gods, Ubisoft
- 11:44removed the entire No-Name storyline in
- 11:46the Animus. In the original, it really
- 11:48pissed me off and kept distracting me.
- 11:49Thankfully, it's not here, but they
- 11:51replaced it with these glitches. They
- 11:54do have some Animus-related content,
- 11:56but honestly, it’s such boring crap,
- 11:58just forget it. And the best new
- 12:00feature: Ubisoft slightly reworked the
- 12:02missions. If you remember, there used
- 12:04to be a shitload of tailing and forced
- 12:06stealth. That’s gone now. You can
- 12:08play however you want. Hack, slash, do
- 12:10whatever feels good to you. And for
- 12:13that, a huge thank you. The rest is
- 12:14just purely technical stuff. I mean,
- 12:17they updated the parkour, it’s become
- 12:18smoother, changed the combat, which
- 12:20I'll talk about later, touched up the
- 12:22graphics, and yadda-yadda,
- 12:23blah-blah-blah. So, as I said, this is
- 12:25the Director's Cut of Black Flag on a
- 12:27modern engine. Personally, I don't see
- 12:29a problem with that, and on the
- 12:30contrary, I think some games shouldn't
- 12:32be changed. I talked about this in my
- 12:33video about the Gothic remake. So I
- 12:35decided to read a bit of what people
- 12:37are writing online. And you know,
- 12:39it’s a very funny situation, because
- 12:41I’ve seen comments like: "Ubisoft
- 12:42didn't change anything.""Ubisoft didn't
- 12:45change anything." And you know what,
- 12:47thank [ __ ] they didn't. Thank them for
- 12:49that, because, well, we know what
- 12:51Assassin's Creed has turned into. And I
- 12:54wouldn't want to see one of my favorite
- 12:56parts of the series. Like this, or that
- 12:59? No, no, no, no. Anyway, Nassau itself
- 13:02. Welcome to the pirate paradise. And I
- 13:04must admit, Edward is not just some
- 13:06nobody in Nassau. The local bigwigs are
- 13:08his buddies. Edward "Blackbeard" Thatch
- 13:11and James Hornigold, with no nickname.
- 13:14Before the events of the game, they
- 13:15were privateers in the service of
- 13:16England. At that time, England and
- 13:18Spain were at war, but the guys later
- 13:20decided not to give up the trade and
- 13:22continued to rob everyone. As you can
- 13:24understand, you’ll be hanging out
- 13:26with these esteemed gentlemen. Besides
- 13:28them, there’s also a lad named James
- 13:30Kidd. He's this young adventurer,
- 13:33definitely not a woman in disguise.
- 13:35Edward, apparently, figured it out too.
- 13:36Look, he even raised his "tentpole"
- 13:38under his cloak, damn it. And how could
- 13:39I forget about her? The red pearl of
- 13:42this island, the jewel of our sausage
- 13:45fest. A woman no pirate would ever
- 13:48refuse. Well, because a pirate would
- 13:49even...well, you know. Bonny. All of
- 13:52these characters are actual pirates who
- 13:53existed during the Golden Age. And even
- 13:55Nassau, you'll be shocked, wasn't just
- 13:57made up by Ubisoft out of thin air.
- 13:59Actually, in all fairness, Ubisoft
- 14:00translated the lives of these
- 14:02historical figures quite accurately. Of
- 14:04course, their lives are described in
- 14:06just one book, and it's called
- 14:07something like "The History of Piracy
- 14:09in the Golden Age." And I don't really
- 14:11know much about its historical accuracy
- 14:12. To be honest, I couldn't care less.
- 14:15Even if these are some semi-mythical,
- 14:16semi-fictional dudes, it's still
- 14:18well-made and interesting to watch.
- 14:21Good job. And, by the way, listen, I
- 14:22remember reading there was some kind of
- 14:24micro-scandal, you know, saying: "They
- 14:26made Anne Bonny ugly." Well, you know,
- 14:28she wasn't exactly a beauty in the
- 14:30original either. And they brought her
- 14:32over here quite well. So, you know,
- 14:33don't scare off Ubisoft. At least they
- 14:36drew some boobs. Just be thankful it's
- 14:38not some blue-haired landwhale. And you
- 14:40know, while running around the map, I
- 14:42ran into this little cobra here. And
- 14:45I'll tell you, for this alone, I'm
- 14:46ready to forgive Ubisoft for everything
- 14:48—it's just a cheap trick. Okay, even
- 14:51though the game has started, since
- 14:53Assassin's Creed 4 is a game from
- 14:54Ubisoft's golden age, what do we need
- 14:56to do? We need to learn properly. And
- 14:59here, the tutorial is, so to speak,
- 15:01integrated into the main plot, because
- 15:02for the next couple of hours you'll be
- 15:04hanging out with the guys from Nassau,
- 15:06and they'll teach you important
- 15:07gameplay mechanics like shooting from
- 15:09the ship, boarding, upgrading your
- 15:11vessel, robbing warehouses, and all
- 15:12that. And you know, all this gives the
- 15:16impression that Edward lied a little
- 15:17bit about having known Blackbeard and
- 15:18Hornigold for a long time and that they
- 15:20had sailed together. Why the hell don't
- 15:22you know how to do anything then?
- 15:23Everything has to be explained to you,
- 15:25you [ __ ]. Anyway, Ed had a few drinks
- 15:27with the boys, and a classic "man talk
- 15:29over beer" kind of conversation started
- 15:32. Something like, you know, "Boys, we
- 15:34need to start a business." Pumping
- 15:36septic tanks at summer cottages. That's
- 15:39a gold mine. Guys, I want to buy myself
- 15:41a crossbow. Sounds about right. Listen,
- 15:43if you could suck your own dick, would
- 15:45that be considered gay or not? Huh? But
- 15:47then the men decided to discuss
- 15:48business. Edward decided to share info
- 15:51with the boys about the Observatory,
- 15:53saying you could make a killing from it
- 15:55. And as it turned out, the others had
- 15:57heard of it. Kidd, for example, called
- 15:58it a tall tale. Thatch also noted that
- 16:00it's a pretty mediocre gamble. Chasing
- 16:03after fairy tales—what the [ __ ] for,
- 16:04when you can just squeeze the Spanish
- 16:06for cash and live worry-free? And after
- 16:08the drinking session, Hornigold decided
- 16:10to share his experience, so to speak.
- 16:12And yes, the tutorial. I, naturally,
- 16:14won't be talking about that. The only
- 16:15thing is, there are two important
- 16:17points here. The first is Hornigold
- 16:19himself. You can spend some time with
- 16:21him, chat, and get used to him. And
- 16:23he’s kind of a, you know, strange
- 16:25little dude, I’d say, a total [ __ ]
- 16:27ferret. I mean, you can tell he’s sly
- 16:29, just not exactly a likable guy. And
- 16:31secondly, of course, there’s Edward
- 16:33himself. Say what you will, but as a
- 16:35protagonist, I honestly think he’s
- 16:36the best character in the series. I
- 16:38mentioned this in my video on all the
- 16:40Assassin’s Creed games, but watching
- 16:42Edward is just a damn pleasure. After
- 16:44all those idiots brainwashed by the
- 16:45Assassin ideology, Edward is a breath
- 16:47of fresh air—a guy who just doesn't
- 16:49give a [ __ ] about any of that and just
- 16:51wants to live a decent life. And it’s
- 16:53really cool how it all turned out in
- 16:54the game and how it ended. He’s truly
- 16:56the highlight of the game, and the
- 16:58whole series, really. There aren't many
- 17:00highlights in it anyway, so let Edward
- 17:03be one. After all the plundering and
- 17:05nonsense, you’ll need to meet up with
- 17:07Kidd. There’s a tutorial here too,
- 17:09but more interestingly, the bro gave us
- 17:11the so-called rope dart. In the
- 17:13original game, I barely used it because
- 17:15, first of all, why bother, and second,
- 17:17well, hanging enemies from trees looks
- 17:18cool, but its effectiveness is
- 17:20questionable. Well, here, the rope dart
- 17:23is a fully-fledged tool, and you can
- 17:25and should use it in fights. By the way
- 17:27, they’ve changed those a bit, too.
- 17:29And you know, in my opinion, the combat
- 17:31in this remake is basically the best
- 17:32system in the whole series. And if you
- 17:34remember, the original played like
- 17:36you’d hit one dude and then could
- 17:38one-shot every enemy until they were
- 17:40all dead. And they’ve changed that
- 17:41here. This chain has been limited to a
- 17:43maximum of four guys. This stat, by the
- 17:45way, has been tied to the weapons. And
- 17:47now fighting has become a bit more
- 17:48difficult and a bit more interesting.
- 17:50The combat itself is roughly like in
- 17:52the latest Shadows, but without the
- 17:53levels. Basically, an enemy has a guard
- 17:55. You can either break it with normal
- 17:56attacks to one-shot the target, or
- 17:58break it with a parry and finish them
- 18:00off as well. Plus, they added four
- 18:02abilities here. They don’t cost mana
- 18:04or anything else. They have practically
- 18:07no cooldown. And suddenly, they’re
- 18:09all useful. With a kick, you can knock
- 18:11enemies off ledges or just kick them
- 18:13into a wall to break their guard.
- 18:15There’s a trip move, and that’s
- 18:16pretty obvious: knock them down and
- 18:17finish them off. A quick pistol shot,
- 18:19also pretty self-explanatory. And the
- 18:21rope dart, which you can use to pull a
- 18:23target toward you, just like Scorpion
- 18:25from Mortal Kombat. They tweaked the
- 18:26swords a little bit. As I understand it
- 18:28, there are, let’s say, three classes
- 18:30of weapons. There’s the weapon with
- 18:32pistols, which will blast away from a
- 18:34distance on a heavy attack. Broadswords
- 18:36that just deal area damage with heavy
- 18:38attacks, and fast rapiers with piercing
- 18:40strikes. This doesn't really impact
- 18:42gameplay that much, but hey, it's cool
- 18:43to have different animations. They also
- 18:45added these little trinkets with
- 18:47various passive bonuses. And honestly,
- 18:49I really enjoyed the combat. Finally,
- 18:52no need to grind levels, spend half an
- 18:54hour whittling down high-level enemies,
- 18:55constantly farming for decent gear, or
- 18:57shooting at weak points. I don't need
- 19:00that crap. I came here for a shootout
- 19:02with real men. I'm not interested in
- 19:05obsessing over these numbers. So I just
- 19:06had a blast fighting everyone and went
- 19:08on with my business. Anyway, I liked
- 19:10this combat system. It's slightly less
- 19:12casual than the original. It isn't
- 19:14cluttered with all that garbage like in
- 19:15modern Assassin's Creed games. It's
- 19:17great. As a downside, I'd say I
- 19:19would've liked more finisher animations
- 19:21. There’s a real lack of them. And to
- 19:23whoever removed the ability to pick up
- 19:25enemy weapons: you’re an [ __ ]. No
- 19:27offense, but that’s a fact. In the
- 19:29original, I loved shooting muskets or
- 19:30picking up a two-handed axe and
- 19:32throwing it at someone. It was fun and
- 19:35made the combat feel more, I don't know
- 19:37, free-form, maybe? You fight like
- 19:39Jackie Chan: bam, picked up a musket,
- 19:41fired, stabbed a couple of guys,
- 19:42bang-bang with the pistols, then tossed
- 19:44an axe. That’s awesome. But you can't
- 19:46do that now. And that’s a drawback. I
- 19:47still hope they add that capability in
- 19:49future patches. It's really missed. The
- 19:51final mission in this mind-blowing
- 19:53tutorial will be with Blackbeard. It
- 19:56all starts, as usual for pirates, with
- 19:57a drinking session. The situation is
- 19:59that Nassau is in trouble. Since the
- 20:02locals are mostly slackers and drunks,
- 20:04nobody thought about fortifications.
- 20:06Because if the King's men attacked
- 20:07right now, they'd wipe everyone out
- 20:09without a problem. So, Thatch suggests
- 20:11seizing a Spanish galleon. That way,
- 20:13their chances of survival will
- 20:15definitely go up. Very conveniently,
- 20:16Thatch knows exactly where to find such
- 20:18a galleon. So yeah, now we have to
- 20:20capture that very galleon alongside
- 20:22Blackbeard. By the way, a small
- 20:24off-topic thought. There's this TV show
- 20:27called "Black Sails." It’s also about
- 20:29pirates in Nassau. And in that show,
- 20:31Blackbeard was a chick with thick black
- 20:33hair down there. Ah, anyway, I couldn't
- 20:36steal the galleon, so I quickly smacked
- 20:38some enemies around and ran away with
- 20:39my tail between my legs. However,
- 20:41Blackbeard hasn't given up on the idea
- 20:43of swiping the ship. But there’s a
- 20:45catch, because Ducasse is stationed at
- 20:46the fort where the galleon is docked.
- 20:48So, besides the ship, we'll also have
- 20:50to take out Ducasse. And that’s a
- 20:52pleasure in itself. By the way,
- 20:53there’s one more cool addition here.
- 20:55Even though I like the fourth
- 20:57installment, the original had two
- 20:58problems: trailing missions and
- 21:00mandatory stealth. It was incredibly
- 21:02annoying, considering that most of the
- 21:04missions were exactly like that. You
- 21:07had to tail people in cities, in
- 21:08villages, and even, damn it, on ships.
- 21:11But in the remake, they changed it.
- 21:12Trailing was only in two or maybe three
- 21:14missions, I think, which is nice. And
- 21:16as for mandatory stealth, forget about
- 21:18it. You can just run in guns blazing
- 21:19and cut down every piece of junk that
- 21:21gets in your way. And that, I'll tell
- 21:22you, is great. Leave that primitive,
- 21:24stupid, amateur stealth for those who
- 21:26like it. Real pirates just walk out,
- 21:28pull their guns, and start blasting
- 21:30openly. Ubisoft did just that. Good job
- 21:32. By the way, the stealth itself wasn't
- 21:34really changed, but the AI is still a
- 21:36bit better than in the original.
- 21:38Enemies are much more observant now,
- 21:39they see you from half the map away and
- 21:41have even started reacting to noise.
- 21:43But it's still default Ubisoft stealth,
- 21:45just better than in the 2013 game.
- 21:48Anyway, here is how I handled it. I
- 21:49killed all the scum, made it to some
- 21:51estate, and treated the friends there
- 21:53to some surprises too. And Ducasse?
- 21:55What about Ducasse? The bastard was
- 21:57hiding on the ship, but that didn't
- 21:59help. The cove is ours. Victory. After
- 22:01that, there was another flashback of
- 22:03drunk Edward crawling on the floor,
- 22:04listening to Caroline's father
- 22:06demoralizing him, saying, "What a
- 22:07disgrace, just look at him." He's the
- 22:09lowest form of life on earth, right?
- 22:11He's not even a human being. But Edward
- 22:13is fine, he's just chilling and having
- 22:15a good time, you get the picture, right
- 22:16? He's like a 16 th-century hustler. He
- 22:18promises his girl. I'm about to pull
- 22:21off a big job. Damn, we're gonna live
- 22:24like kings, man. Just lend me a dozen
- 22:26doubloons until Friday, as a bro. All
- 22:28right. The fort, as you can see, was
- 22:30captured by pirates, and now it belongs
- 22:31to Edward. And yes, this is a hub that
- 22:34you need to develop, build all sorts of
- 22:36crap there, and pocket a percentage
- 22:38from it. They also showed a few side
- 22:40quests. And it's all classic stuff here
- 22:42. Do the chores, loot everything. Loot
- 22:43keys from Templars to get cool armor,
- 22:45loot that too. Hunt for money on ships,
- 22:48collect art objects. Damn, just let me
- 22:50play the game. And while Ed was
- 22:51wandering around the island, Stede
- 22:52Bonnet was with him. And just before
- 22:54leaving, the buddy said that the outfit
- 22:56wasn't quite right, uncle, not quite up
- 22:58to status, you know. Edward noted that
- 22:59the guy is hiding something and knows
- 23:01more about the observatory than he's
- 23:03telling. That’s true. And if Edward
- 23:05wants answers, the whale suggested
- 23:07meeting somewhere at the edge of the
- 23:09map in a couple of weeks. That's an
- 23:11assassin quest. Since the tutorial is
- 23:14officially done, I decided I'd do, damn
- 23:16it, anything but that. In the original,
- 23:19I absolutely hated these tasks because
- 23:21they distracted from the pirate content
- 23:22and were, well, kind of meh. And then,
- 23:25suddenly, a new feature. Adewale said,
- 23:27"Look, brother, this is all well and
- 23:29good, but we need more people for the
- 23:31crew." For example, a guy to keep order
- 23:33on the ship, as well as a carpenter.
- 23:35And them, as you can imagine, we'll
- 23:37need to go find. But for now, I
- 23:38couldn't care less about any of that.
- 23:39It's time to roam the seas. To sail.
- 23:42And, of course, new quests for the crew
- 23:44. The new crew quests, by the way, are
- 23:47not bad. Especially the last one, but
- 23:49more on that later. Right now, I've
- 23:50arrived at an island where some fella
- 23:52is sitting who will keep things in
- 23:53order on the ship. In the past, he was
- 23:55some kind of wild, reckless pirate who
- 23:57retired and changed his line of work a
- 24:00bit. He became a priest. So, Edward
- 24:02waltzes in and says, "Old man, damn it,
- 24:04I need you, you get it? Why are you
- 24:06just sitting here cutting pork?""Come
- 24:07with me, and instead of pork, you'll be
- 24:10cutting people." The principle is the
- 24:11same. I even read that a pig carcass is
- 24:13anatomically close to a human. Anyway,
- 24:15enough of this. Let's go. But, the
- 24:17Padre refused. Saying that all of that
- 24:18is the work of the devil. Besides,
- 24:19I’ve quit that life. You’d better
- 24:21help out a bit instead. Go hand out
- 24:22some food to the people. I did it.
- 24:24However, the Padre asked for one more
- 24:26favor. It turned out he's being
- 24:27tormented by the men of the late
- 24:29Ducasse. They are camped nearby, and
- 24:30the old man asked Edward to find out
- 24:32what they're planning. Well, okay. I
- 24:34ran to their camp and found a letter
- 24:35there detailing a plan to attack the
- 24:37village where the Padre lives. Edward
- 24:39headed back, and well, the situation
- 24:40there was, to put it mildly, bad. Oh,
- 24:42the horror. As you can imagine, the
- 24:45Padre is burning with righteous
- 24:46vengeance. Especially since it turned
- 24:48out the mastermind behind the attack
- 24:50was the bishop who led the Padre to the
- 24:52path of faith. Edward expressed his
- 24:53sympathy, promised protection to the
- 24:55surviving villagers, and vowed they
- 24:57would definitely take revenge on
- 24:59Ducasse's men. And that's it, hell yeah
- 25:01, it's a deal. Abel Galvão, welcome to
- 25:03the crew. By the way, with this guy's
- 25:06arrival, a new ship ability unlocked.
- 25:08You can slam head-first into ships to
- 25:10ram them. Pretty cool. Next up in the
- 25:12program is a carpenter, or rather, a
- 25:14female carpenter, Lucy. Adewale told me
- 25:16about her, saying...She is a master of
- 25:18her craft. However, there is a problem.
- 25:20She's being transported for execution
- 25:22right now, so first, we'll have to
- 25:23rescue our friend from captivity. At
- 25:25night, Edward swam up to the English
- 25:27ship, snuck inside carefully,
- 25:29slaughtered everyone not-so-carefully,
- 25:31and saved the girl. After another ship
- 25:33battle, we'll be able to have a word
- 25:35with her. As it turns out, her story
- 25:37isn't so simple. It became clear that
- 25:39Lucy comes from a wealthy family. After
- 25:40her mother's death, she was raised by
- 25:42her grandfather. And this very
- 25:43grandfather left Lucy a massive fortune
- 25:45. And now the lady is asking for help
- 25:47in claiming her inheritance. Well,
- 25:49you’ve come to the right place,
- 25:50friend. I am a man with a higher legal
- 25:53education. I aced my inheritance law
- 25:55exam with a very strict professor. So,
- 25:57I know my stuff. To get the inheritance
- 25:59, you have to be first in line.
- 26:02Therefore, there shouldn't be any other
- 26:05claimants to the estate.
- 26:07Get it?
- 26:08However, there is a nuance to this
- 26:09whole situation. Lucy’s father wants
- 26:11to get the grandfather's inheritance.
- 26:13And together with his lawyer, they
- 26:14intend to snatch the property. While we
- 26:16sail to the grandfather's estate and
- 26:18run around there, Lucy will whine
- 26:20incessantly about her father, how he
- 26:22tormented her in childhood, what a
- 26:24tyrant and jerk he was, and that he
- 26:26won't leave her alone. Well, I’ll
- 26:28tell you, it's clear from her behavior
- 26:30that she has daddy issues. Honestly, I
- 26:33expected fun adventures here, but
- 26:34instead got a conversation with a drunk
- 26:36woman at a bar who pours her heart out
- 26:38about how her father was a scumbag,
- 26:39beat her mother, didn't love her, and
- 26:41hit her too. And now I'm going to go
- 26:43suck off this guy in the bathroom just
- 26:45to get revenge on him. Though here, of
- 26:47course, it's justified. The father is a
- 26:48real piece of work. Because in the
- 26:50house, Edward found a letter which
- 26:52revealed that the dad killed the
- 26:53grandfather, forged the inheritance
- 26:55papers so it would all go to him, and
- 26:57had his own daughter thrown in jail to
- 26:58rot. Right here, by the way, the hero
- 27:01met Lucy’s father in the flesh. And
- 27:03after a short dialogue, our friend shot
- 27:06him. But that’s not the end, because
- 27:08we still need to whack the lawyer and
- 27:10take the original will from him. Bam.
- 27:12Best of luck. In the end, the heroes
- 27:14dug up the chest and took the documents
- 27:16. And if you actually care, it turns
- 27:18out Lucy's dad also did away with her
- 27:20mom for good measure. What a lovely
- 27:23family. But a carpenter is a carpenter.
- 27:25But then I went off the deep end. I
- 27:27tried literally every type of
- 27:29entertainment there is in this game.
- 27:31Fought on ships, looted resources,
- 27:33weapons, costumes, explored the map,
- 27:35did side quests, and hunted ships. If
- 27:37you're wondering, the gap between this
- 27:40mission and the assassin mission is
- 27:42almost 7 hours. I just couldn't be
- 27:44bothered to go to them. I’ve played
- 27:45computer games before, I know how it
- 27:47goes. Although removing mandatory
- 27:48stealth definitely made the game more
- 27:50pleasant to play, given that I actually
- 27:51like the combat system. So, I'm always
- 27:53happy to get into a fight whenever I
- 27:54get the chance. Anyway, Edward arrived
- 27:56at the island, and soldiers were
- 27:58roaming all over the place. He had to
- 28:00fight his way deeper into the island,
- 28:01where Edward happened to meet Kidd and
- 28:03the Assassins. The dimwits in hoods,
- 28:05naturally, weren't thrilled about the
- 28:06protagonist's company. The head
- 28:08Assassin, named Ah Tabai, started
- 28:09coming at him. Like, not only did
- 28:11Edward off Duncan, which is fine enough
- 28:13. He really screwed them over by giving
- 28:15the Templars Duncan's documents, which
- 28:17had the Assassins 'bases marked,
- 28:18causing big problems for the latter.
- 28:20And on top of that, he also killed
- 28:22several members of the Order in Havana.
- 28:24The hero would've been put to rest
- 28:25right there. However, Kidd stood up for
- 28:27him. Saying, "Boss, don't judge too
- 28:29harshly, just look at him.""He's got'
- 28:31total [ __ ] 'written all over his face,
- 28:32a complete loony, honestly, you can't
- 28:33expect much from him.""Plus, Edward has
- 28:35Eagle Vision, and that must mean
- 28:37something—what exactly, I have no
- 28:39clue, but, you know, cut the little guy
- 28:42some slack, yeah." Ah Tabai backed off,
- 28:44and now it's time to take a stroll
- 28:45through the temple with Kidd. And here
- 28:47we have a little lore room. During the
- 28:49walk, Kidd will gently try to psyop
- 28:51Edward, like, "Listen, buddy.""
- 28:53Assassins are good people, they have
- 28:55the rules of the Creed.""They are on
- 28:58the right side and serve the good." But
- 29:00Edward replied that he couldn't care
- 29:01less about all that. "Guys, I’m not
- 29:03here for ideals, I’m in it for the
- 29:05money.""So, uh, let's keep the nonsense
- 29:07to a minimum." In this temple, by the
- 29:09way, the Aztecs or whoever lived here,
- 29:11they, like, built a huge mug of the
- 29:12Sage. Listen, just how wise do you have
- 29:15to be to have your face carved out of
- 29:17some lapis lazuli in a puzzle temple?
- 29:19What could he have possibly told the
- 29:20natives? "Boys, water is wet, fire is
- 29:22hot, so, you know, watch out.""And if
- 29:25you see idiots in iron shirts offering
- 29:27to trade pearls for blankets, don't
- 29:29agree.""No, don't do it." In short,
- 29:32Kidd explained that the Sage is needed
- 29:34to find the Observatory. And under no
- 29:35circumstances should we let the
- 29:37Templars get their hands on him. Ugh,
- 29:39well, alright then. By the way, while
- 29:41we were walking, it got dark, and the
- 29:43devils attacked the Assassins' hideout.
- 29:45And since Edward had screwed up and
- 29:46exposed everyone, he had to help those
- 29:48jerks and save all the Assassins. But
- 29:50honestly, their Order really confuses
- 29:52me. Even the reward from the chest here
- 29:54is questionable. But what is this? I
- 29:56found a closet in a chest. Why the hell
- 29:58did you hide a closet in a chest? In
- 29:59the end, I killed everyone. However,
- 30:01the leader of the soldiers managed to
- 30:02slip away. That is a certain Laurens
- 30:04Prins, a slave trader, and we’ll meet
- 30:06him a bit later. And Ah Tabai replied
- 30:08that Edward is a talented kid, but just
- 30:11too dumb, forget it. But so be it, the
- 30:13Assassins will forget about what he has
- 30:15done. Though if anything, he’s not
- 30:17welcome here. Yeah, screw you. After
- 30:19this mission, Kidd continued to feed
- 30:21Edward full of crap. Like, bro, we’re
- 30:25fighting the Templars. Got it. We are
- 30:29the good guys. Good. Bro. Is there the
- 30:32word "bro" in the word "Templar"? No.
- 30:34And is there one in the word "Assassin"
- 30:36? No. But there is the word "suck." So
- 30:39what is it? Well, here’s to us. Fine.
- 30:41In all seriousness. Basically, the
- 30:42foundation of the conflict between the
- 30:44Assassins and Templars was laid out
- 30:45here, about their struggle, goals, and
- 30:47blah-blah-blah-blah-blah. A couple of
- 30:48months later, we are moved to Nassau.
- 30:51Rumors that pirates had built their own
- 30:53republic here and were living the high
- 30:55life spread across the world, and other
- 30:57scum began flocking to Nassau from all
- 30:58over. Right now, we are graced by the
- 31:01presence of gentlemen Charles Vane and
- 31:03Jack Rackham. More pirates who actually
- 31:05existed in real life. In the game, they
- 31:07are some kind of, well, total weirdos,
- 31:09as we will see later. Actually, the
- 31:10guys arrived with some good news. They
- 31:13said there’s a fort nearby where a
- 31:15rich governor has arrived. So we can
- 31:17make some good money. And yes, the next
- 31:19mission will be about that. By the way,
- 31:21I liked how before the attack on the
- 31:23fort, Ed goes: "Yo, Adewale, you're
- 31:24about to make some cash, and then what?
- 31:26Don't you want to go back to Africa?"
- 31:28Well, back to your home. Damn, that
- 31:41Edward, of course, is really like a
- 31:43buddy. He’s a complete idiot, but
- 31:45there’s something relatable about him
- 31:46. He just tells the guy: "Why the hell
- 31:48not, let's go to your home in Africa,
- 31:50man, I was born here." Oh, come on,
- 31:52don't feed us that line. Alright, after
- 31:54a minute of multicultural jokes, we
- 31:56need to destroy the fort. Honestly,
- 31:58playing it before, I didn't really like
- 32:00it, but now, maybe I missed it or
- 32:02something. But it was actually fine,
- 32:04and I even did it a few times
- 32:06off-camera. And here, guys, mortars
- 32:08just decide everything; open fire on
- 32:10the damn fort, and it’s a blast. And
- 32:12after all the fortifications are broken
- 32:14, you need to sneak inside and take
- 32:15everyone out. Once again, with modern
- 32:17graphics, everything looks super sexy.
- 32:19And even by Assassin's Creed standards,
- 32:21there is scale and epicness. Suddenly,
- 32:23props to Ubisoft. They really did a
- 32:25great job. And in general, you’re all
- 32:26legends. All this side activity looks
- 32:29beautiful and is also fun to play. Well
- 32:32done. Actually, inside the fort, Edward
- 32:34and the boys found Torres. The old man
- 32:36started acting tough at first, saying
- 32:37he wouldn't say a thing. But after
- 32:40Edward threatened to turn him into a
- 32:42lipless freak, the old guy folded
- 32:44quickly and spilled that they’d been
- 32:45hunting for the Sage for two years and
- 32:47had finally found him. At the moment,
- 32:50he is being held captive by Laurens
- 32:52Prins. Now that’s some good news. A
- 32:54bit later, the boys sailed to a city
- 32:56named after my RAM. That’s XPG Lancer
- 32:59, by the way. Alright, Kingston,
- 33:01that’s exactly where Prins lives. So,
- 33:02what’s the plan? We decided to send
- 33:05Torres to see the Prince so he could
- 33:06strike a deal to buy the Sage. And once
- 33:09Torres buys the Sage, our heroes will
- 33:11swipe him and make a run for it. But
- 33:13there’s a problem, because Kidd
- 33:15showed up. He wants to take the Prince
- 33:16out. Edward talked him down, saying, "
- 33:19Bro, hold off, let's wait, there's a
- 33:20chance to snag the Sage." And what do
- 33:23you think? We were watching this whole
- 33:24scheme unfold. It looked like Torres
- 33:26had almost closed the deal. However,
- 33:28the Prince said, "I'm not selling you a
- 33:29damn thing.""And besides, you old fool,
- 33:31you led a tail right to me." Yes, the
- 33:33heroes were spotted, Torres and the
- 33:35Prince took off, and Edward had no
- 33:36choice but to bail before his face got
- 33:38smashed in. A bit later, you can meet
- 33:40up with Kidd. And my bro started jawing
- 33:42, saying, "Because of you, you dumb
- 33:44prick, we didn't manage to kill anyone,
- 33:46so like it or not, you owe me help
- 33:48taking out the Prince." And yeah,
- 33:50we’re going to have to help. Before
- 33:51heading out, we can chat one more time
- 33:53on the mill roof. And there, having
- 33:55cooled off, the heroes decided that
- 33:57they could just do this fair and square
- 33:59. Edward will grab the Sage and kill
- 34:01the Prince at the same time. However,
- 34:03he’s still going to need some help.
- 34:04And get ready, there’s going to be a
- 34:06plot twist. A twist, I’d even say,
- 34:08not just unexpected—it's fantastic.
- 34:10Not even a twist, it’s a full-on
- 34:12drift. Kidd cut his finger, put on some
- 34:14lipstick, and it turns out Kidd had
- 34:16been a woman the whole time. This
- 34:18lady’s real name is Mary Read. And
- 34:21now, with my new girlfriend, we need to
- 34:23sneak into the estate, find the Prince,
- 34:26and, let’s say, alternatively
- 34:27reanimate him. In other words, kill him
- 34:30like a dog. Make sure that piece of
- 34:33garbage he calls a heart stops beating,
- 34:36so he dies in agony, damn it, so the
- 34:39life slowly leaves his body. I pulled
- 34:42the whole thing off cleanly, found the
- 34:44old man, and retired him for good.
- 34:46After the classic scene where the
- 34:48Templars put Edward down, saying he's a
- 34:50degenerate without ideals or principles
- 34:52, Edward suddenly found the Sage, who
- 34:54had Mary at gunpoint. Coming to an
- 34:56agreement with Mr. Roberts didn't work
- 34:57out. Mary broke free. And the weirdo
- 34:59shot the alarm bell and ran away. And I
- 35:01, you know, decided not to stand around
- 35:02like an idiot either, so I bolted for
- 35:04the exit. And we had kind of an
- 35:06unexpected plot twist here. It’s easy
- 35:08for you, having played this 13 years
- 35:09ago, sitting there with your smart
- 35:11faces, knowing everything. Oh, Mary is
- 35:13a woman. I don’t get why all the
- 35:15dames in Edward’s life have to nag
- 35:17him so much. What about his nagging
- 35:18wife? What about Mary? "Have you ever
- 35:20thought about joining the Royal Navy?""
- 35:22Have you ever thought about shutting
- 35:23your trap?" Well, Edward made his point
- 35:25too, saying he’d be a loser in life
- 35:26otherwise, but this way he’ll make
- 35:28some cash. His wife didn't care about
- 35:30that at all, but he’s firmly
- 35:32convinced she’ll be happy when he
- 35:33comes back with pockets full of gold.
- 35:35Some time later, we’re taken to
- 35:37Nassau. And there’s a surprise: the
- 35:39men are arguing. As it turns out, the
- 35:41English showed up and gave the pirates
- 35:43a choice. Either you stop with this
- 35:45criminal crap and get a pardon, or
- 35:47it’s death. Hornigold suggests laying
- 35:49low and not robbing anyone for a while,
- 35:51so as not to provoke the King.
- 35:53Blackbeard, on the contrary, says screw
- 35:54the King; we should kick their asses
- 35:56instead. However, there’s a new
- 35:58problem here. People are getting sick.
- 35:59Nassau has been hit by some kind of
- 36:01epidemic, and as you can imagine,
- 36:02there’s no medicine. And so, Teach
- 36:04suggests attacking a ship to seize the
- 36:06medicine. Hornigold is against it. But,
- 36:08naturally, Edward makes the final call.
- 36:10He agrees that they need the medicine
- 36:11and that they should pull it off
- 36:13quietly. First, there’s another
- 36:15tutorial, this time for underwater
- 36:17swimming. But that didn't lead to
- 36:18anything, as the medicine on the sunken
- 36:20ship was long expired. And since doing
- 36:22it quietly didn't work, we’ll act in
- 36:24the open, following Teach’s plan. By
- 36:26the way, our old acquaintance Stede
- 36:28Bonnet has joined his crew. Generally,
- 36:30from his talks with Edward, Stede also
- 36:32got fired up about roaming the seas and
- 36:34being a pirate. It weighed on him that
- 36:36he left his wife and daughter back in
- 36:37England. And here is what Edward told
- 36:39him in the dialogue: As you can tell,
- 36:56our chubby bro decided to listen to his
- 36:58cool friend’s advice and become a
- 37:00pirate. Now he’ll be sailing with
- 37:02Blackbeard on his ship. By the way,
- 37:04that’s exactly how it was in reality.
- 37:05And suddenly this mission got a lot
- 37:07more fun, because you have to scrap not
- 37:09just with a dinghy, but with a real,
- 37:11solid ship. That’s always a pleasure.
- 37:13In the end, we won and even looted the
- 37:15medicine. However, it’s not enough.
- 37:17So Edward decided they should sail to
- 37:19Charles-Towne. Where, so to speak,
- 37:20there’s medicine out the wazoo and
- 37:22plenty of good loot to be had. By the
- 37:25way, after this mission, Stede Bonnet
- 37:26got himself his own ship and set off
- 37:28with his crew on a free voyage in
- 37:30search of adventure and riches. Oh,
- 37:33damn. No, not this mission, for f*** 's
- 37:36sake. Honestly, in the original, I
- 37:38remember it as super tedious crap,
- 37:40because you had to stealth your way
- 37:42through some shitty swamp under the
- 37:43cover of night. And it's basically the
- 37:46same thing, but there's no forced
- 37:48stealth here, so it's tolerable. In the
- 37:49end, the guys looted everything they
- 37:51needed, and that's it. Nice, Blackbeard
- 37:53is satisfied. But there is some sad
- 37:55news ahead. Teach decided to leave
- 37:57Nassau, leave his friends, to loot a
- 37:59bit of cash so he could spend his
- 38:00remaining years in comfort. That's it,
- 38:03the old man is retiring. Flashback.
- 38:05Caroline packed her bags and is leaving
- 38:07Edward. When asked why the hell she's
- 38:09doing that? Caroline replied, "You fool
- 38:11, you were paid well on the farm, but
- 38:13for some reason, you left and headed
- 38:15back out to sea again." Edward tried to
- 38:18brush it off, saying, "What are you
- 38:19talking about? They were paying me
- 38:20miserable pennies, for [ __ ] sake.""Do
- 38:22you want to be a peasant's wife?" But
- 38:24his girlfriend was already fed up with
- 38:25all of this—Edward and his schemes,
- 38:27and the fact that he couldn't stay home
- 38:28. So she left. But, by the way, I
- 38:30understand Edward in this moment.
- 38:32Between the sea and shoveling pig [ __ ],
- 38:34I'd choose the sea 100 out of 100. We
- 38:36return to Nassau, and it's suddenly a
- 38:38nightmare. Quite unexpectedly, Woodes
- 38:41Rogers arrived on the island with a
- 38:42bunch of English soldiers. They
- 38:44allegedly came to personally negotiate
- 38:46with the rulers of the island: Charles
- 38:48Vane, Hornigold, and Teach. Hornigold
- 38:50went out to talk. As you can imagine,
- 38:52we need to follow him. And as it turned
- 38:54out, the prick personally arrived to
- 38:56recruit pirates under the king's wing.
- 38:59To say: "Men, let's wrap this [ __ ] up,
- 39:01quit this business, we'll give you a
- 39:03pardon and you'll live well.""Just, you
- 39:06know, without the crime." Oh, and by
- 39:07the way, whoever among the pirates
- 39:09doesn't agree, well, they're [ __ ].
- 39:11Hornigold, accept the pardon. Agreed.
- 39:13Two random nobodies agreed, too. The
- 39:15only ones who put their foot down were
- 39:17Vane and Rackham. Those are my boys.
- 39:19But that's not all, because the British
- 39:22didn't just come for a visit; they put
- 39:24Nassau under blockade. So Edward and
- 39:25Vane have to try and somehow get the
- 39:27hell out of the city. There won't be
- 39:29any big surprises here, just a couple
- 39:30of prep missions. We need to steal
- 39:32gunpowder barrels, and then take them
- 39:34out to sea on a boat toward the English
- 39:36ships. Blow everything up there, and
- 39:38while the commotion is going on,
- 39:39quickly get away. Somehow or other, we
- 39:41managed to pull this off. And now all
- 39:44this riff-raff will be hanging out at
- 39:46Edward's villa. We're being moved there
- 39:47, by the way. The main character, as
- 39:49expected, is sprawled out on the table
- 39:51with a girl like a total pig. Oh, why
- 39:53are you nagging me, you [ __ ]? Why
- 39:55can't you just leave it be? And
- 39:57why are you starting this, Cobra? Ah,
- 39:59actually, at this point, Assassin's
- 40:00Creed 4 starts shifting from light
- 40:02adventure nonsense into something with
- 40:04a bit more drama. Friends have betrayed
- 40:07him, the Pirate Republic is failing,
- 40:08the Feds are terrorizing everyone, and
- 40:10this Cobra is busting my balls, too.
- 40:12Ugh, what’s happening here? Even the
- 40:13few people who still stuck with Edward.
- 40:16They’ve started to get bothered by
- 40:18his obsession with money. Adéwalé is
- 40:20distancing himself, and Mary is arguing
- 40:23, those jerks. By the way, Edward is
- 40:25still fired up about the idea of a
- 40:27Pirate Republic, where no one will boss
- 40:28them around or tell them what to do. So
- 40:31, he intends to revive Nassau, and for
- 40:33that, he’ll need the help of the
- 40:35so-called Blackbeard. That’s exactly
- 40:37who our hero headed off to see.
- 40:39Blackbeard, you know, just doesn't give
- 40:40a damn anymore. He politely brushed off
- 40:42his former friends, saying, "Look, boys
- 40:44, I’m done sailing, leave me the hell
- 40:46alone, for God's sake." I just want to
- 40:48live a good life. To celebrate his
- 40:50retirement, Blackbeard threw a party.
- 40:52By the way, during the dialogue, Thatch
- 40:54mentioned he’d heard a rumor that the
- 40:56Sage was seen on a ship called the
- 40:58Princess. And things seem just fine.
- 41:00Time for a booze-up. After all, Thatch
- 41:02is heading off to a well-deserved
- 41:04retirement. However, Edward was
- 41:05distracted by a suspicious dude in the
- 41:07crowd. The hero followed him, and it
- 41:09turns out, the [ __ ] was a plant. A
- 41:11little saboteur who brought the English
- 41:13to the island. So, what now? They
- 41:15couldn't have picked a worse time to
- 41:16attack. Total chaos broke out;
- 41:18everything is burning, exploding,
- 41:19it’s a nightmare. Had to jump on the
- 41:21ship as fast as possible and join the
- 41:23fight. I took everyone down pretty
- 41:24quickly. I was just starting to get
- 41:26happy. That’s it, victory. All that
- 41:27was left was to successfully board them
- 41:29. But then the terrible thing happened.
- 41:31During the slaughter on the deck,
- 41:33Blackbeard was shot. Edward couldn’t
- 41:34reach him in time, and in the end,
- 41:36Thatch was stabbed by some devil. And
- 41:38Edward was thrown overboard. [ __ ], what
- 41:41a disaster. Everyone is drinking and
- 41:43feeling down. And the only thing left
- 41:45of Blackbeard is his hat. Edward, of
- 41:48course, gave a speech, saying
- 41:49Blackbeard was the terror of the seas
- 41:51and would live forever in our hearts.
- 41:53Let’s promise we won’t forget him.
- 41:55But everyone is still feeling pretty
- 41:57sad. The protagonist included. There he
- 41:59sits, moping to the sad song of Anne
- 42:01Bonny. Suddenly, inside Thatch's hat,
- 42:03Edward discovered some kind of map. And
- 42:05, by the way, this scene wasn't in the
- 42:06original. Ubisoft added a few extra
- 42:07quests with his buddies here. And,
- 42:09honestly, this is a very good decision,
- 42:11because the quests are truly touching.
- 42:14For instance, with Thatch, you have to
- 42:16sail to some coordinates, where there's
- 42:18a stash he hid his treasures in. I
- 42:20found that chest, and suddenly, instead
- 42:22of gold and jewels, there were various
- 42:24tools and a letter inside. In it,
- 42:26Blackbeard wrote that Edward most
- 42:28likely found this chest after catching
- 42:30the scent of gold. It sucks, of course,
- 42:32that Thatch disappointed him, but this
- 42:34is also treasure in a way. After all,
- 42:37with these tools, you can cultivate the
- 42:38grand settlement that pirates always
- 42:40dreamed of. So Thatch asks Edward to
- 42:43build a place just like the one on
- 42:45Nassau. And Edward did exactly that.
- 42:47Back at the hub, those tools were put
- 42:49to use, and now the little island has
- 42:51crops and workers who, well, are doing
- 42:53something there. Cool. A bit later, the
- 42:57hero met Vane, and Charles suddenly
- 42:59joined Edward's quest to find the
- 43:00Observatory. So then the heroes sailed
- 43:03off to find the ship with the Sage.
- 43:05However, things didn't go quite so
- 43:06smoothly. The bastards attacked and
- 43:08sank Vane's ship. Luckily, he managed
- 43:10to scramble onto the Jackdaw. And while
- 43:12we were busy fighting the enemies and
- 43:14boarding their ship, a betrayal
- 43:16occurred. That piece of [ __ ] Jack
- 43:18Rackham and his men decided to seize
- 43:20the Jackdaw, leaving Vane and Edward on
- 43:22the sinking ship, and just sailed away.
- 43:24Some time later, we are transported to
- 43:26an uninhabited island, where Edward and
- 43:29Vane try to survive. And while the hero
- 43:30, by and large, didn't lose his mind,
- 43:32the same can't be said for Vane. He
- 43:34completely cracked up. The prick
- 43:36doesn't want to work together and keeps
- 43:38firing his pistol at Edward whenever he
- 43:40gets close. I'll have to sneak around
- 43:42him carefully and then kick his ass in
- 43:44a fair fight. Even though Edward didn't
- 43:46kill Vane, he decided not to help him
- 43:48either. And then, suddenly, a ship
- 43:50appeared on the horizon, black screen,
- 43:52and bam, Edward is back on his island.
- 43:54Rackham got caught, and as it turned
- 43:55out, he didn't even manage to cause
- 43:57much trouble. He messed around for two
- 43:59months and crawled back to Nassau to
- 44:01beg for a pardon. And since Edward was
- 44:03missing for a while, it means that,
- 44:05right, it’s been a long time since
- 44:07he’s been scolded. Yeah, if only your
- 44:09talent was put to good use. You are
- 44:12smart, but lazy. By the way, Edward
- 44:15hadn't given up on the quest for the
- 44:17Sage. He continued to actively search
- 44:19for him. He even sailed to Kingston and
- 44:20started questioning people there. And
- 44:23at this point, Adewale started
- 44:24complaining that Edward is, goddamn,
- 44:26obsessed. Both Adewale and the crew
- 44:28were tired of chasing the hero's dreams
- 44:30. Edward replied that he was almost
- 44:32there. He had just about grasped
- 44:34success by the tail. Especially since
- 44:36Hornigold and Rogers were nearby. Those
- 44:38bastards definitely know something. And
- 44:40yes, they are indeed nearby, but all
- 44:42they know is that Edward is following
- 44:44them. Well, okay, not just that. Edward
- 44:46also overheard that the Sage is
- 44:47currently in Africa. So, the next step
- 44:49is to sail there. However, before that,
- 44:52Edward received a little letter. Stede
- 44:55Bonnet wrote: "Brother, I’ve gotten
- 44:57into a bit of a mess. The governor’s
- 44:59men caught me, and I’m currently in
- 45:01prison." But that’s not really a
- 45:02problem. I’ll likely be released soon
- 45:04. However, there is some gathered loot
- 45:06on my ship. The ship itself is located
- 45:08near an island. And what the crew might
- 45:10do without a captain, I don't know. So,
- 45:12brother, as a personal favor, not just
- 45:14a service. Be so kind as to go check on
- 45:16the boys. And then we’ll meet up,
- 45:19just like in the good old days. And
- 45:21we’ll talk everything over there.
- 45:23This wasn't in the original either, so
- 45:24I went to see what Ubisoft had come up
- 45:26with. As it turned out, Stede’s ship
- 45:29had run aground. There’s a short
- 45:30mission here where you have to help the
- 45:32remnants of the crew and cut down the
- 45:34other part of the crew. In the end,
- 45:35Edward will find a key, go down to
- 45:37Stede’s cabin, and a letter from
- 45:38Stede was waiting for him there. on the
- 45:47I imagined facing death like you sword
- 45:50drawn full of gusto instead I found
- 45:52myself begging and weeping at the
- 45:54governor's feet I fear your advice was
- 45:57wasted on a constitution like mine I
- 46:00should have left pirating all together
- 46:02sailed home to my wife and children.
- 46:06That was the gift you gave me. I’m
- 46:16being absolutely serious right now.
- 46:18This quest is better than everything
- 46:20Ubisoft has done in the last few years.
- 46:21Wait, eight. It’s actually dramatic.
- 46:24I felt sad in Assassin's Creed, damn it
- 46:27, in a game about mindless idiots. And
- 46:53this quest fits perfectly into Edward's
- 46:55story, like it was meant to be. And it
- 46:58adds a little more depth to him as a
- 47:00character. Because if before Edward was
- 47:03just some reckless bandit and all his
- 47:04friends paid the price for it, now it
- 47:06adds that he didn't just act like an
- 47:08idiot and a criminal himself, he also
- 47:10dragged some random guy into it. And
- 47:12indirectly, because of the hero's fault
- 47:14, he was executed. And even Edward
- 47:16himself realizes this. Nah, you could
- 47:26have come to that conclusion in the
- 47:28original too, but there were fewer
- 47:30details there, and, well, you didn't
- 47:32really pay attention to it. And you
- 47:33know, it’s already being discussed
- 47:35that the Black Flag remake is selling
- 47:37well. Already 3 million copies in just
- 47:39a couple of weeks. Just so you know,
- 47:41that’s almost 200 Shadows total. The
- 47:42game has high ratings from critics and
- 47:44players, and in general, people praise
- 47:45it, yeah. And, like, holy [ __ ], if a
- 47:48game has a decent plot, people suddenly
- 47:52like it. If a game has interesting
- 47:55characters, and they do this, this,
- 47:57this, this, this, this, this, then, wow
- 47:59, suddenly it's fun to play. It can't
- 48:04be that if the game's plot isn't
- 48:06interrupted by meaningless garbage like
- 48:08clearing out checklists, but flows
- 48:10evenly and explains everything
- 48:12gradually, well, it can't be that
- 48:14people like that. Where the [ __ ] is
- 48:17that supposed to go? How is that even
- 48:20possible? Alright, Africa, naturally, I
- 48:23couldn't just catch the Sage here,
- 48:25because there was a sudden ambush. The
- 48:28Portuguese, I had to kill them all.
- 48:30However, on a small island, the hero
- 48:31noticed a camp. He stumbled right into
- 48:33it. And as luck would have it,
- 48:35Bartholomew Roberts was right there.
- 48:36Why are you pointing a gun at Edward?
- 48:38So Eddie told him, look old man, don't
- 48:40trip, let's talk. There’s no need for
- 48:42us to be enemies. I only need the
- 48:43Observatory, all these Templars,
- 48:45Assassins, and whatever else. They're
- 48:47just freaks, damn it, totally
- 48:48brainwashed. Look at them, it’s like
- 48:50someone opened their skulls and took a
- 48:52[ __ ] inside. I'm a simple man, we’ll
- 48:54definitely reach an agreement. In
- 48:55principle, my buddy is ready to
- 48:57cooperate, but he needs some help.
- 48:59Remember those two nobodies who
- 49:00accepted a royal pardon? They need to
- 49:03be, so to speak, uninstalled. But the
- 49:05problem is, as my Spanish friends say,
- 49:07me gusta tocar guitarra, me gusta tocar
- 49:10al son, y me gusta mi compañera cuando
- 49:12canta una canción. In short, Burgess
- 49:15and some guy named Cockram are dead.
- 49:17What did you expect? Sorry guys,
- 49:19that’s just how it is. We were
- 49:20sailing the sea, the wind was blowing
- 49:22the masts. Captain Douchebag jumped
- 49:24ship. And so now Roberts and I are
- 49:27friends. And yes, he gave me the
- 49:28coordinates of where to sail. There
- 49:29will be a couple more tasks here where
- 49:31you have to loot blood samples. The
- 49:33Templars had been collecting them the
- 49:34whole time, but forget it, the mission
- 49:36is pretty mediocre. In the end, I got
- 49:38everything, and with all that [ __ ], we
- 49:39sailed to the Observatory. On the way,
- 49:41by the way, Adewale started acting up
- 49:43again, like, "Hey man, you're really
- 49:44doing some [ __ ] now, you know." But
- 49:46those aren't all the surprises.
- 49:48Hornigold appeared, and now I have to
- 49:50clash with an old friend on the ships.
- 49:53And you know, I’ll say that I don't
- 49:55even understand how he became a terror
- 49:56of the seas, because he isn't even
- 49:58sailing a schooner, it feels like he's
- 49:59on some [ __ ] motorboat. So I hit him
- 50:02with one mortar shell. And that’s
- 50:03goodbye. Tail between his legs, the
- 50:06bastard tried to hide on the island,
- 50:07but no, bro, I'll catch you there too.
- 50:10And suddenly, Hornigold was completely
- 50:12soaked in Templar romanticism. He said
- 50:14that Edward was an idiot and chose the
- 50:15path of an assassin instead of the
- 50:17truth. And he made a claim, like: "You
- 50:19betrayed our philosophical life for a
- 50:20bunch of [ __ ]." The ones we've
- 50:22always hated? Hornigold replied that
- 50:24the Templars are different. Edward just
- 50:26doesn't understand that, and soon he'll
- 50:28be left all alone and end his days on
- 50:30the gallows. That’s it, the
- 50:32Observatory. We arrived there together
- 50:34with Roberts. Edward made it inside.
- 50:36And before the chaos begins, a few
- 50:38words about Bartholomew Roberts, or
- 50:40rather, about the Sage. So, the Sage is
- 50:42, essentially, a reincarnation of one
- 50:44of the Isu, or, as they were called at
- 50:45the time of the original release, the
- 50:47Precursors. Such a reincarnation is
- 50:50born consistently every 50-60 years,
- 50:52and it reincarnates the Isu named Aita.
- 50:56Honestly, I don't really have the
- 50:57desire to dig into all this stuff,
- 50:58because personally, I've always
- 50:59considered the content in Assassin's
- 51:01Creed about the Isu or the Precursors,
- 51:02in short, as just, you know, [ __ ]
- 51:04terrible content. I'll put it this way:
- 51:07Aita was a scientist back in his Isu
- 51:09state, he conducted various experiments
- 51:11, and he was the one who built the
- 51:12Observatory to track Pieces of Eden
- 51:14across the globe. As you can understand
- 51:17, only he knew where the Observatory
- 51:18was located. That is exactly why only
- 51:20his reincarnations can find the way to
- 51:23it. By the way, the Sage mentioned his
- 51:24love a couple of times, and you can
- 51:26even find various notes around the
- 51:28world. As I understand it, they were
- 51:29written by previous Sages. Basically,
- 51:31the catch is that Aita's wife is Juno,
- 51:33that [ __ ] who brainwashed Desmond at
- 51:35the end of the third part. Uh, so
- 51:37there's that. Bartholomew Roberts
- 51:39himself is just a pirate. Yes, a
- 51:42skilled, cool, scary, and famous person
- 51:45who really existed, and who, I think
- 51:47you know, created a specific code for
- 51:49his crew. Actually, Roberts showed how
- 51:52this tracking device works. You have to
- 51:54insert the blood-soaked trinket into
- 51:56the skull, and place the skull into
- 51:57some rings. And in this way, the device
- 51:59shows a projection of what the target
- 52:01person sees with their own eyes. And
- 52:03here comes an unexpected plot twist.
- 52:05Edward’s help is no longer needed, so
- 52:07Roberts punched the hero in the face
- 52:09and threw him into the water. Now he
- 52:11has to get out of the temple. But
- 52:12here’s the problem. Falling from the
- 52:14mountain, Edward got injured, and
- 52:16besides, his ship sailed away. The crew
- 52:18decided to ditch the hero and left him
- 52:20in Roberts' clutches, and he, in turn,
- 52:21decided to turn the hero over to the
- 52:23English, since there is a bounty on his
- 52:24head. Flashback. Edward is arguing with
- 52:27his wife. Caroline has a gut feeling
- 52:29that Edward will 100%get hurt and she
- 52:31won't survive it. The hero replies: "
- 52:33Chill out, I'll just go on this one
- 52:35voyage, and then we'll live together."
- 52:36Yeah, just like kings. And then, damn
- 52:38it, the mother-in-law outside the door
- 52:40starts croaking that it's over, leave
- 52:41him, don't torture yourself. Caroline,
- 52:43by the way, listened to her and said
- 52:45that Edward just wants to chase the
- 52:46wind, and he doesn't give a damn about
- 52:48his wife. Next, we are taken to a court
- 52:51hearing. During Edward's absence,
- 52:53something funny happened, because Mary
- 52:54and Anne decided to do a little
- 52:56pirating themselves. And, as you can
- 52:58see, they were caught and are about to
- 52:59be executed. However, the ladies played
- 53:02their trump card and said, "Aah, we're
- 53:03pregnant, you can't hang us." This, by
- 53:06the way, actually happened in real
- 53:07history too. Edward was sitting right
- 53:08there at the trial. The Templars jumped
- 53:10him and said, "Oh, what a surprise,
- 53:13buddy. Tell us where the Observatory is
- 53:15, or else that's it. No more head."
- 53:17Edward didn't crack, and they marinated
- 53:19him in prison for 4 months. That's
- 53:21exactly where the next mission starts.
- 53:23Edward is in the slammer shaking the
- 53:24cage and annoying the guards. It's very
- 53:26fortunate that Ah Tabai stopped by with
- 53:28the Assassins to save Mary and Anne.
- 53:30And, as a bonus, Edward too. But
- 53:32naturally, this doesn't come for free.
- 53:34You'll have to help save the girls.
- 53:36Well, how exactly to help? By beating
- 53:38the hell out of everyone solo, while Ah
- 53:40Tabai just stands there AFK. And then
- 53:42the terrible thing happened. Anne and
- 53:44Mary were actually pregnant. How they
- 53:46managed to give birth in 4 months, uh,
- 53:48history doesn't say, but it doesn't
- 53:50matter, because Edward finds Mary in
- 53:51critical condition. She can't even walk
- 53:54properly. While the hero was carrying
- 53:56her, Mary kept saying to drop her,
- 53:58leave her here, but no way, he went all
- 54:00the way. In the end, Mary was really in
- 54:02bad shape. Before dying, she said she
- 54:04had fulfilled her duty, unlike Edward.
- 54:07The hero said he couldn't do it without
- 54:09Mary, and his friend replied that she
- 54:11would always be with him and then
- 54:12passed away. Brutal. With Mary's body,
- 54:15Edward reached the shore where his
- 54:16mates were, and that was it. Now he is
- 54:18officially on total tilt. Edward
- 54:20doesn't know what to do. There is no
- 54:22plan. Looks like this is the end. All
- 54:24that's left is to booze it up and
- 54:26wallow in the mud like a [ __ ] pig.
- 54:27And, by the way, Edward is excellent at
- 54:29that. Now comes a classic Ubisoft
- 54:31mission, where the hero wanders around
- 54:33in his delirium and sees all sorts of
- 54:35hallucinations. But, I must admit,
- 54:36unlike a dozen other similar moments,
- 54:38in this game it actually works. It
- 54:40shows Edward's regret. He will crawl
- 54:43along the beach, while listening to
- 54:44demoralizing words from his dead
- 54:46friends. Then demoralizing words from
- 54:47the Templars, that he is an idiot who
- 54:49only cared about money and nothing more
- 54:51. And in the end, you have to sail on a
- 54:53ship and listen to accusations first
- 54:54from Caroline, and then from Mary.
- 54:56They’ll say that Edward is a fool. He
- 54:58did everything out of spite and greed.
- 55:00He just couldn't live a quiet life, the
- 55:02bastard. He can only destroy everything
- 55:04around him. Change your damn course
- 55:06before it's too late. And so, our main
- 55:08character wakes up on the shore.
- 55:10Adewale happened to be there, too. Even
- 55:12though he ran off with the crew like a
- 55:14rat, Edward holds no grudge. Besides,
- 55:15Adewale is done; he won't be a pirate
- 55:17anymore. The old man found his calling
- 55:19elsewhere; to be precise, he joined the
- 55:22Assassins. On the ship, Anne will take
- 55:24his place. You can chat with her later
- 55:26at the Assassin camp. And, by the way,
- 55:29they had a very touching dialogue. As
- 55:30it turned out, the child didn't survive
- 55:32. If she had stayed in prison, perhaps
- 55:34they could have saved him. And from all
- 55:36this, she concluded that she wasn't
- 55:38ready to be a mother living this life.
- 55:41In fact, all of them—Edward, Thatch,
- 55:43Hornigold, and the rest—face the same
- 55:46end: death. Everyone except Edward and
- 55:48Anne died. And she admitted that she
- 55:50misses their friends very much. Just as
- 55:53Edward does. Yeah. As my friend Arthur
- 55:56Morgan used to say, you can't live a
- 55:58bad life and expect a happy ending. The
- 56:01hero also started to realize that he
- 56:03was living his life all wrong, and you
- 56:05can chat with Oppong on the island. In
- 56:08the dialogue, it’s clear that Edward
- 56:09already wants to join the Assassins and
- 56:12understand their ideology. I see it as
- 56:14a form of redemption for him. By the
- 56:17way, after this scene, Edward wrote a
- 56:18letter to his wife. Basically saying, "
- 56:20My love, that's it, this time I'm
- 56:22firmly coming home soon." Just a few
- 56:24loose ends to tie up, and that's it. So
- 56:26just wait. I could go finish the story
- 56:29now, especially since there are only a
- 56:31couple of missions left. However, I
- 56:33thought, "Well, okay, they showed an
- 56:35epilogue for Thatch and Bonnet, so to
- 56:37speak." Therefore, since Mary died,
- 56:40they should give us some content about
- 56:42her, too. Especially since there was a
- 56:44clear hint that she loved Edward.
- 56:46It’s not entirely clear, though, what
- 56:48kind of love that was. And a quest like
- 56:50that would have been the perfect place
- 56:52to explain it. But, damn it, there is
- 56:55no such quest. The question is: why,
- 56:58Ubisoft? Are you kidding me? Are you
- 56:59serious? Even in the original, Mary's
- 57:01death was touching in its own way. And
- 57:03in the story, she was almost the only
- 57:05character who steered the hero toward
- 57:07the right path. She didn't just voice
- 57:09doubts, she flat-out said, "Hello, wake
- 57:11up, you're heading in the wrong
- 57:12direction." Plus, as I said, she loved
- 57:14Edward, and he didn’t give a damn
- 57:16about her either. And since they added
- 57:19new quests about friends here, well,
- 57:20damn it, they should’ve added one
- 57:22about Mary after Stede. It just begs to
- 57:25be done. Yeah, yeah, there is a rift
- 57:28mission that shows what if Mary wasn't
- 57:30an assassin, but that's total crap and
- 57:32there’s no drama there at all. It's
- 57:34more of a warm-up to make the idiot in
- 57:36the Animus renounce the Assassin Creed.
- 57:37Where the hell is the quest? It’s a
- 57:39shame, I’ll be honest. A personal
- 57:41quest for Mary felt like something they
- 57:42were obligated to do. Or at least a
- 57:45simple note where she’d write
- 57:47something to Edward, or finding some
- 57:49hideout where she lived with a portrait
- 57:51of Edward by her bed. Just something,
- 57:54damn it. So, if there won't be a DLC
- 57:56about her or a DLC about her life or
- 57:58something related to her, Ubisoft, well
- 58:00, that's a massive screw-up on your
- 58:02part. Although Ubisoft did make up for
- 58:04their mistake a little, since they
- 58:06brought in something new. Firstly, you
- 58:08can finish Padre’s quest, meaning
- 58:10find the bishop and take revenge on him
- 58:12. Well, skip that, there are no
- 58:13revelations there. And secondly, they
- 58:15added not just a quest, but an entire
- 58:18chapter. So, Edward was sitting in a
- 58:21tavern on his island and sipping some
- 58:23booze. When suddenly this, damn it,
- 58:26apartment-building-sized ship docked,
- 58:28and some Englishmen led by this mister
- 58:31disembarked. Meet Robert Maynard. A
- 58:34real historical figure who, in history,
- 58:37killed Edward Teach. In the game, as
- 58:39you understand, he did the same thing.
- 58:41They showed him to us a little earlier.
- 58:43So, this freak arrived with the goal of
- 58:45threatening Edward. Or, to be more
- 58:47precise, once again giving him a choice
- 58:48. Either stop plundering and get a
- 58:50pardon, or you guys are screwed. A bit
- 58:53later in the captain's cabin, Edward
- 58:54decided to discuss with Anne what to do
- 58:56next. His friend isn't really eager to
- 58:59tangle with Teach’s killer, but
- 59:00attacking head-on won't work, since
- 59:02Maynard is backed by nothing less than
- 59:04the Royal Navy. And so Edward proposes
- 59:06a plan: first, head to Kingston, find
- 59:08out what else Maynard wants and what
- 59:10his strength is, and then we’ll see.
- 59:13Well, okay, I went to his warehouse,
- 59:14looked for info there, and it turns out
- 59:16Maynard is building his own armada to
- 59:18end the pirates forever. And on top of
- 59:21that, some insanely cool pirate gunner
- 59:23is hanging out on his ship, creating
- 59:25powerful weapons. Oh, now that’s a
- 59:27conversation. Edward thought the same,
- 59:30so in the next mission, we'll need to
- 59:31sneak onto Maynard's ship, find the
- 59:33gunner there, and maybe the cash being
- 59:35delivered to him to build his armada.
- 59:38Actually, sneaking onto the ship didn't
- 59:40work out, so we had to smash it in a
- 59:42fair fight and board it, but naturally,
- 59:44there was no money there. However, we
- 59:47did find that very gunner. They had
- 59:48shoved him into a crate. And honestly,
- 59:50his appearance, to put it mildly,
- 59:52leaves a lot to be desired. A bit later
- 59:53, we all headed to the hub, and the
- 59:55heroes held a small party there. It’s
- 59:58, you know, a small breather before the
- 1:00:00big showdown against Maynard. While
- 1:00:02everyone is drinking and having fun,
- 1:00:04Edward decides to chat with his new
- 1:00:06friend, who goes by the nickname "
- 1:00:07Deadman." He’s a very shady character
- 1:00:09, let's say, and it's clear he's seen
- 1:00:11some serious [ __ ]. For instance, even
- 1:00:13here, Edward finds Deadman just as
- 1:00:15he’s digging his own grave. So our
- 1:00:17hero says: "Brother, I need you. Join
- 1:00:19us, and everything will be fine." Damn,
- 1:00:23Deadman agreed and even gave his real
- 1:00:25name, Tobias Smith. At the end of the
- 1:00:27party, Edward introduced the new member
- 1:00:29to the crew and laid out the plan. We
- 1:00:31need to beat the hell out of Maynard.
- 1:00:33To do that, we first need to cut off
- 1:00:34his funding, which means finding the
- 1:00:36treasurer who's sponsoring the
- 1:00:38construction of his armada. Then we
- 1:00:40need to destroy as many of his ships as
- 1:00:42possible, and only then can we take
- 1:00:44down Maynard himself. Everyone agree?
- 1:00:46So let's move. First up, the treasurer.
- 1:00:48Lucy will help Edward with that. She
- 1:00:50found out that the treasurer is hiding
- 1:00:52somewhere in Nassau. We barged in there
- 1:00:53together. Took the target out for good.
- 1:00:55Excellent. Everything seems to be going
- 1:00:57well. Edward found out where Maynard's
- 1:00:59treasury was moved to. So there's a
- 1:01:01solid chance to swipe his money.
- 1:01:02Magnificent. Meanwhile, Padre made a
- 1:01:05deal with his Spanish friends and
- 1:01:06talked them into joining the brawl
- 1:01:08against Maynard's armada. And yes,
- 1:01:11there's going to be a really cool and
- 1:01:12intense clash against a dozen ships
- 1:01:13with varying degrees of armor. I don't
- 1:01:16even know what to say, because it's
- 1:01:18simply impossible to describe it all
- 1:01:19without using the word "awesome." But
- 1:01:21that's not all. Obviously, that wasn't
- 1:01:23the whole armada. We just thinned their
- 1:01:25ranks a bit and took out the treasurer.
- 1:01:27We're still a long way from the end.
- 1:01:28Next, Lucy and I decided to try and
- 1:01:30steal Maynard's treasury anyway. It was
- 1:01:32moved somewhere to Tortuga. We went
- 1:01:35there. However, it was a trap. Edward
- 1:01:37found a letter there where Maynard
- 1:01:39wrote something like, "Kenway, you
- 1:01:41idiot, I played you so well, suck it."
- 1:01:43We had to run away with our tails
- 1:01:44between our legs. A bit later, we can
- 1:01:46chat with Anne, and she'll say
- 1:01:47something like, "Brother, are you up to
- 1:01:49your old tricks again?" Caught the
- 1:01:50scent of money and that's it, damn it.
- 1:01:52Barbossa moved in my pants and my brain
- 1:01:54shut off. Hello, can you hear me?
- 1:01:55Forgot that my boys are in the grave
- 1:01:57because of this. But that's not all. As
- 1:01:59it turned out, the treasury wasn't on
- 1:02:01Tortuga, but in Port Royal. So the
- 1:02:03whole gang got together and started
- 1:02:05deciding what to do. And, like,
- 1:02:06everyone agreed that attacking Maynard
- 1:02:08in Port Royal would be a good move.
- 1:02:10We'll swoop in suddenly, swipe
- 1:02:12everything, and take him out while
- 1:02:13we're at it. Sounds good. A bit later
- 1:02:15we arrived at the port, and here we
- 1:02:17have to work with all the Jackdaw
- 1:02:19officers. Together with Adéwalé, we
- 1:02:21need to free the captured pirates. With
- 1:02:23Thatch, destroy the cannons and other
- 1:02:24defensive crap, and with Anne, blow up
- 1:02:26the powder stores. Then Edward snuck
- 1:02:29onto Maynard's ship and blew up the
- 1:02:31powder there too. The plan was to
- 1:02:33finish there, jump on the ship together
- 1:02:35, and sail away. However, Edward
- 1:02:37remembered that Maynard had a treasury
- 1:02:39stashed somewhere, so he left his boys
- 1:02:41on the shore and ran to loot the money.
- 1:02:44But, naturally, it was a trap, and a
- 1:02:46ton of enemies jumped the hero. You
- 1:02:49have to kill them all and, like a
- 1:02:50scared loser, run back to the ship. But
- 1:02:53we're screwed, because the sneaky
- 1:02:55Maynard caught the hero's friends, put
- 1:02:57them on his ship, and even fired a
- 1:02:58volley at the town. Amidst the
- 1:03:00explosions, screams, and fires, we have
- 1:03:03to escape to the Jackdaw and then—yes
- 1:03:05, yes, damn it, yes—there will be a
- 1:03:07battle against Maynard's remaining
- 1:03:08armada. But that's not all, because in
- 1:03:11the end, there will be a boss fight.
- 1:03:13It's a new legendary ship, which, as
- 1:03:14you understand, is controlled by
- 1:03:16Maynard, guys. Well, I don't know.
- 1:03:18Ubisoft is my favorite company. I have
- 1:03:20never said a single bad word about them
- 1:03:23. Just geniuses. That damn gold is so
- 1:03:26stupid. I mean, was that really so hard
- 1:03:28? And, by the way, unlike the other
- 1:03:31legendary ships that can really kick
- 1:03:33your ass, the Ipswich is definitely
- 1:03:34simpler. Although my ship was almost
- 1:03:37fully upgraded by then, the fight is
- 1:03:39still super cool, and you'll appreciate
- 1:03:42it—in the rain, against such a beast.
- 1:03:44Well, it's pure sex, guys, pure sex. I
- 1:03:46can only express respect to Ubisoft for
- 1:03:48this chapter alone. The new quests in
- 1:03:50this game are, in principle, the best
- 1:03:52thing you've managed in the last 10
- 1:03:54years. Cool. At the end, of course,
- 1:03:56there will be a boarding, where you'll
- 1:03:58have to test your strength against
- 1:04:00Maynard. And check this out, his
- 1:04:01friends are locked in the hold, which
- 1:04:03is slowly filling with water. There's
- 1:04:05also money on the ship here. And after
- 1:04:07I defeated Maynard, he gave Edward a
- 1:04:09choice. The money or the key to the
- 1:04:12hold to save his friends. Maynard threw
- 1:04:14the key into the water and escaped
- 1:04:15himself. Edward hesitated for a bit, of
- 1:04:17course, but naturally chose his buddies
- 1:04:19. In the end, everyone was saved, but
- 1:04:21Maynard fled and the money was lost.
- 1:04:23Later, Edward went off to drink alone,
- 1:04:25and there was a scene where he talked
- 1:04:27to Thatch in his head. The latter told
- 1:04:29him it's better to hang out with
- 1:04:30friends than to be alone with a fat
- 1:04:32wallet. It's a shame they both realized
- 1:04:35it too late. Cool. And you know, I
- 1:04:37don't understand at all why this
- 1:04:39chapter wasn't included in the main
- 1:04:40plot. It's interesting, the missions
- 1:04:43are fun, the crew members are involved,
- 1:04:45we all worked together on the missions,
- 1:04:48and it fits perfectly into Edward's
- 1:04:50story, showing his transition from a
- 1:04:52greedy bastard to a normal human being.
- 1:04:55By the way, that's not all. You have to
- 1:04:57help Tobias get revenge on the captain
- 1:04:59who shoved him in a crate and find his
- 1:05:01wife's grave. The missions are
- 1:05:03generally not bad and even touching in
- 1:05:05their own way, but I personally found
- 1:05:07his character a bit creepy and goofy.
- 1:05:10So, I went through them neatly, got
- 1:05:12some new pistols, and thought: "So what
- 1:05:14? Like it or not, Assassin's Creed
- 1:05:18Black Flag is ending, so it's time to
- 1:05:19play the final chapter." As you
- 1:05:22remember, Edward visited the Assassins
- 1:05:24'island, where he basically confessed,
- 1:05:26admitted he had been acting wrongly,
- 1:05:27and wants to make things right for
- 1:05:29Mary's sake and help the Assassins. He
- 1:05:31doesn't fully understand their ideology
- 1:05:33and all that, but he will still make an
- 1:05:34impact. In short, we have to eliminate
- 1:05:37the remaining Templars, because the
- 1:05:38game suddenly remembered it's called
- 1:05:40Assassin's Creed. So let's go. The
- 1:05:42first in the Crazy Boss Rush is Woodes
- 1:05:45Rogers. He is in the city at some fancy
- 1:05:47party. You'll need to sneak in
- 1:05:49unnoticed and take the guy out. By the
- 1:05:52way, they suddenly had a dialogue where
- 1:05:54both guys agreed that the Observatory
- 1:05:57is truly dangerous and it's better not
- 1:05:59to use it. So if Rogers tells him where
- 1:06:02Roberts, the Sage, is hiding, Edward
- 1:06:04promised to stop him. Well, Rogers told
- 1:06:07him, thanks. The next stop, basically,
- 1:06:09is in Africa. There, you need to find
- 1:06:12the Sage on an island, then fight him
- 1:06:13on ships, and take that bastard out
- 1:06:15during the boarding. Here, he'll start
- 1:06:17yapping again about his love for his
- 1:06:19girl. And in that, he and Edward are
- 1:06:21similar. With one difference: Edward
- 1:06:23will return to his wife, but Roberts is
- 1:06:25dead, sucks for him. Edward took the
- 1:06:27surveillance skull from his body, and
- 1:06:29only the final touch remained. Torres,
- 1:06:31I have to head to Havana, where that
- 1:06:33very piece of work resides. However, it
- 1:06:35was a setup. They sicced six Templars
- 1:06:37in heavy armor on Edward. As you can
- 1:06:40guess, you have to take them out, while
- 1:06:41Torres himself headed to the
- 1:06:42Observatory. This is the final mission,
- 1:06:44and there are no revelations here at
- 1:06:45all. You have to fight your way to the
- 1:06:47Observatory, then fight inside it,
- 1:06:49break some three gizmos protecting the
- 1:06:51old man, and take him out too. Before
- 1:06:54dying, Torres said that Edward had been
- 1:06:55haunting and meddling with him the
- 1:06:57whole time, to which the hero replied
- 1:06:58that he was damn right to do so,
- 1:07:00because Torres wanted to lock all of
- 1:07:01humanity in a prison devoid of the
- 1:07:03spirit of freedom. Torres noted that
- 1:07:05Edward is firm in his convictions, it
- 1:07:07suits him, and with that, he kicked the
- 1:07:09bucket. In the end, Edward and his
- 1:07:11friends returned the device to its
- 1:07:13place and decided that the Observatory
- 1:07:15must be sealed and the key destroyed so
- 1:07:17that no one enters until a new Sage
- 1:07:19appears. And, by the way, Edward
- 1:07:21received a letter from England. And the
- 1:07:23letter, judging by the hero's reaction,
- 1:07:26is sad. A little later, you can chat
- 1:07:28with your friends. Anne asks about his
- 1:07:30future plans, and Edward says that in
- 1:07:31time he will settle down among the
- 1:07:33Assassins. We'll see what happens after
- 1:07:34that. And then a ship appeared on the
- 1:07:37horizon. Anne Bonny started to sing.
- 1:07:39Edward saw all his fallen friends and,
- 1:07:41as the singing continued, slowly walked
- 1:07:42down to the pier where his daughter had
- 1:07:44arrived. During the credits, you have
- 1:07:46to sail the sea with her. Jenny
- 1:07:48revealed that her mother, Caroline, had
- 1:07:50died long ago from an illness. To all
- 1:07:52this, Edward said that he was very
- 1:07:54sorry he wasn't there, but now they
- 1:07:56would travel together. In the
- 1:07:58post-credits scene, we are shown Edward
- 1:08:00about 10 years later. He is at the
- 1:08:02theater from the third game, hanging
- 1:08:04out with a grown-up Jenny and his
- 1:08:06second child, the boy Haytham. Cool.
- 1:08:09That's it, the end. What a [ __ ]
- 1:08:12awesome game, guys. Of course, for the
- 1:08:14most part, if not entirely, this is to
- 1:08:16the credit of the original, because the
- 1:08:18fourth Assassin's Creed is very cool on
- 1:08:19its own. And even people who don't like
- 1:08:22the series about idiots in white rags
- 1:08:23respect the fourth installment. The
- 1:08:26game is just really cool and fun by
- 1:08:28itself, so the remake had very little
- 1:08:29chance of screwing up, even if they
- 1:08:31didn't add a damn thing. No, of course,
- 1:08:34we know Ubisoft's talent; they could
- 1:08:35have managed to screw it up and drag a
- 1:08:37grind and level system into all this,
- 1:08:39like in the modern entries. But, thank
- 1:08:41God, they didn't. I won't ramble on for
- 1:08:43too long here, I'll say a couple of
- 1:08:45words about the new features, and then
- 1:08:46I'll draw a conclusion about the game
- 1:08:48as a whole. Everything they added here,
- 1:08:50except maybe the fishing, in my
- 1:08:51personal opinion, is just top-tier.
- 1:08:53They removed the tedious and
- 1:08:54unnecessary crap involving forced
- 1:08:55stealth and tailing missions, which
- 1:08:57made the missions much more interesting
- 1:08:58to play. They added officers just for
- 1:09:00the sake of it, and while their quests
- 1:09:02aren't exactly "wow," they’re
- 1:09:03perfectly fine. And the final quest
- 1:09:05about the showdown with Maynard is
- 1:09:06genuinely cool. It has scale, it’s
- 1:09:09interesting, fun, and it fits perfectly
- 1:09:11into Edward's story. And, of course,
- 1:09:14these epilogue missions about his
- 1:09:16friends. These missions are honestly
- 1:09:17some of the best quests I've ever seen
- 1:09:19in the Assassin's Creed series. I’ll
- 1:09:21agree, it doesn’t take much
- 1:09:22intelligence to be the best among
- 1:09:24garbage. But both missions turned out
- 1:09:26interesting and touching, especially
- 1:09:28the one with Bonnet. And importantly,
- 1:09:30these missions don't just tug at the
- 1:09:31heartstrings; they fit perfectly into
- 1:09:33the game's overall mood. Because, if
- 1:09:35you’ve noticed, from a certain point,
- 1:09:37Black Flag turns from a fun adventure
- 1:09:40into a real drama, and the whole game
- 1:09:42is soaked in a kind of sadness mixed
- 1:09:44with something warm and soulful. I mean
- 1:09:46, you remember all the fun and chaos
- 1:09:47from the beginning of the game? And
- 1:09:49then it hits you that the characters
- 1:09:51who took part in that have already died
- 1:09:53. And these missions, among other
- 1:09:55things, evoke those exact feelings. And
- 1:09:57I'll honestly admit, I can't even
- 1:09:59perceive the game without them now. It
- 1:10:01feels like they should have been there
- 1:10:02all along. Yes, Ubisoft messed up a bit
- 1:10:04by not making them for all of the
- 1:10:05hero's friends. They could have come up
- 1:10:07with something for Vane, or Hornigold,
- 1:10:09even if he was a traitor. I already
- 1:10:11mentioned Mary. That is a massive
- 1:10:13oversight. But even what’s there is
- 1:10:15really cool. Otherwise, it’s the same
- 1:10:17game in a modern shell. It plays,
- 1:10:19naturally, much smoother than the
- 1:10:21original. And there’s not really much
- 1:10:23to say here. The world is beautiful,
- 1:10:24the graphics are better, and the
- 1:10:25controls are more convenient. They may
- 1:10:27have dropped the ball slightly by
- 1:10:28removing the ability to pick up weapons
- 1:10:30, but overall, it's not critical. Naval
- 1:10:32battles still give me the exact same
- 1:10:34stiffy as they did 13 years ago. And
- 1:10:37considering that over these years, no
- 1:10:39truly cool pirate game has come out
- 1:10:41that doesn't look like some cartoony,
- 1:10:43drawn [ __ ], but instead has decent
- 1:10:45everything and is somewhat realistic,
- 1:10:47Black Flag is still great in this
- 1:10:49aspect. And maybe I just missed it, or
- 1:10:52I've gotten used to seeing Assassin's
- 1:10:54Creed look like absolute trash. But I
- 1:10:56enjoyed literally everything in this
- 1:10:58game. Both in terms of story and
- 1:11:00gameplay, I had a blast like a total
- 1:11:02addict. Just so you know, after
- 1:11:04finishing it, while I was writing the
- 1:11:05script, I played some more, and I ended
- 1:11:07up grinding the game to almost 100%. I
- 1:11:10have completed absolutely everything
- 1:11:11that is possible. Only the final
- 1:11:13touches remain. And you know, I
- 1:11:15complained a lot that in their recent
- 1:11:17games, Ubisoft forces you to grind and
- 1:11:19suffer through all kinds of
- 1:11:20uninteresting garbage. And what a
- 1:11:22surprise: if a game is interesting, you
- 1:11:25actually want to play it. And even
- 1:11:27after finishing the main story, you
- 1:11:29don’t want to urgently uninstall it
- 1:11:31and get drunk to forget it all as soon
- 1:11:33as possible, but rather keep running
- 1:11:34around and doing various side
- 1:11:36activities. And that’s because the
- 1:11:38game has a cool story, great characters
- 1:11:40, and decent side quests, some of which
- 1:11:41are actually quite interesting. And
- 1:11:43after finishing it, you want more. You
- 1:11:46don't need to be forcibly saddled with
- 1:11:48grinding and mindless looting. You’ll
- 1:11:49do it yourself with pleasure. And not
- 1:11:52just to kill time, but because you want
- 1:11:54to know what happens if I upgrade the
- 1:11:56ship to the max. What kind of reward
- 1:11:58will there be for upgrading your
- 1:11:59hideout? And what gear did I miss? Will
- 1:12:02there be cool stuff for finding all the
- 1:12:04treasures? Oh, and there are also
- 1:12:06legendary ships and so on. In terms of
- 1:12:10the plot, even though I had played the
- 1:12:11game and remembered it pretty well,
- 1:12:12listen, it felt like I was playing it
- 1:12:14for the first time. Assassin's Creed 4
- 1:12:16is basically a crew story about pirates
- 1:12:18, and that’s [ __ ] awesome. Even
- 1:12:20one more time, it was interesting to
- 1:12:22watch it all unfold. And, in fact, my
- 1:12:24opinion hasn't really changed.
- 1:12:25Everything involving the Assassins
- 1:12:27looks a bit out of place, but it's okay
- 1:12:29overall. Everything where pirates
- 1:12:31feature is magnificent. And it's
- 1:12:33surprising, if you look at it that way.
- 1:12:34Black Flag is, even compared to the
- 1:12:36Assassins games that came out before it
- 1:12:37, well, smaller in scale. You aren't
- 1:12:39hunting the Pope or famous crusaders
- 1:12:42here, you aren't collaborating with
- 1:12:44famous generals and warlords; you spend
- 1:12:46the whole game poking around islands
- 1:12:48with some half-hobo pirates, but it's
- 1:12:50still super interesting. Like, the game
- 1:12:53doesn't try to show off, it just does
- 1:12:55what it needs to. It tells you a simple
- 1:12:57, yet interesting story with cool
- 1:12:59characters who also participate in all
- 1:13:01this action. The game has a lot of
- 1:13:03drama. And, of course, the main
- 1:13:05character. Edward is just top-tier.
- 1:13:09Charismatic, cheerful, just a simple
- 1:13:11guy who was heading for success, but
- 1:13:12ended up losing all his friends,
- 1:13:14realized a few things, and got his act
- 1:13:16together in time. Again, I’ve already
- 1:13:18talked about all of this. I really like
- 1:13:20Black Flag, and I’m glad the remake
- 1:13:22came out and I can play with beautiful
- 1:13:24graphics and comfortable controls. Even
- 1:13:26taking into account that there aren't
- 1:13:27many new features, I don't really need
- 1:13:29them. The main thing is that they
- 1:13:30didn't ruin it. And honestly, I would
- 1:13:31love to see remakes of some
- 1:13:33installments, but only the ones that
- 1:13:34truly deserve them. Just imagine
- 1:13:37running around Florence or Rome with
- 1:13:39modern graphics and smooth controls—
- 1:13:41that would be fire. And I really, f***
- 1:13:44ing hope that Ubisoft does it, that
- 1:13:46they see the reaction to this remake
- 1:13:48and use it as a guide: both for
- 1:13:50creating remakes and developing new
- 1:13:52installments; that they cut the
- 1:13:54artificial padding, the mandatory grind
- 1:13:56, the crappy loot scavenging, and other
- 1:13:58such garbage from their games; and that
- 1:14:00all of that becomes just optional, side
- 1:14:02entertainment. And first and foremost,
- 1:14:06there will be decent scripts and decent
- 1:14:08characters, just like in the early
- 1:14:10games and like in AC. And it's not even
- 1:14:13about nostalgia. It's just that one is
- 1:14:15a game with a story, while the other is
- 1:14:17bulls**t you use to kill time after
- 1:14:19work. I don't need that. What, what?
- 1:14:21And there are time-killers everywhere
- 1:14:23these days, tons of them. But
- 1:14:25lighthearted, occasionally silly, yet
- 1:14:27fun action-adventure games in various
- 1:14:28historical settings—there are
- 1:14:30precious few of those. That’s why I
- 1:14:33sincerely hope Ubisoft understands
- 1:14:35something and draws the right
- 1:14:36conclusions. Assassin's Creed: Black
