- 0:10All righty. Welcome to episode 260 of
- 0:13Tqua's Ask Us Anything. As usual, it's
- 0:17been a pretty busy news week.
- 0:20Tesla's Model Y has become the first EV
- 0:22in Australian automotive history to top
- 0:25monthly sales across all fuel types. At
- 0:275,605 sales in May, the Model Y beat out
- 0:31Ford Ranger and Toyota's Hilux and RAV 4
- 0:34with 4,474,
- 0:3745, and 3,865
- 0:40sales, respectively.
- 0:43Tesla has announced the imminent release
- 0:45of its vehicle to load adapter featuring
- 0:47an esoteric upside down 15 amp
- 0:49single-phase outlet. The adapter's
- 0:51maximum rated power at 230 volts is 3 12
- 0:55kW.
- 0:57And that was this week's news.
- 1:08Indeed, it was. And once again, welcome
- 1:10to the program. Uh, as is customary, if
- 1:13there is anyone who is new and is
- 1:15comfortable in doing so, please unmute
- 1:17and say hello.
- 1:23>> Probably will have a go. Tim here.
- 1:26>> Tim, welcome.
- 1:29>> Uh, yeah, I've just um first time and
- 1:33I've got a 2015 Model S. Um,
- 1:39>> a classic
- 1:40>> going quite well. Um, however, the
- 1:43battery did fail a couple of years ago.
- 1:46Um, I replaced the 85 kWh with a 90. Um,
- 1:52and my reason for coming on tonight.
- 1:55I've got a few technical questions I'll
- 1:57uh ask in due course.
- 1:59>> Yeah, no worries. All right. Well,
- 2:01welcome after I mean, you're the full
- 2:03bottle on Teslas, that's for sure, cuz
- 2:04you've had one for long enough. Um, in
- 2:08fact, you you've got one that's
- 2:09pre-autopilot.
- 2:11Well,
- 2:12>> yeah, it's
- 2:13>> classic new autopilot. It's it's the uh
- 2:16the old um what's the name? Mobile Eye.
- 2:18>> Yeah. Yeah, I think it has a Well, it's
- 2:22got it's got the upgraded MCU 2, but um
- 2:25yeah, look, I I didn't have it from from
- 2:28new, so it's probably I've had it
- 2:29probably seven or eight years, but um
- 2:31yeah, look, it's going going well.
- 2:33>> Fantastic. All righty. Um, is there
- 2:36anyone else who is new that would like
- 2:37to say hello?
- 2:44All right. Perhaps a little bit later
- 2:46on. Um, just quickly, I'm probably going
- 2:50to bang on this, bang on about this for
- 2:52the next few weeks, but if I can get
- 2:56this working, uh, this is the current
- 2:58tally for the Supercharger voting.
- 3:02And you can see that thankfully
- 3:05Baladonia is well out in front and we've
- 3:07got Seduna not far behind and then
- 3:10Norman Bay, Denmark etc. Now it really
- 3:14is important if we look on this map. So,
- 3:19by the way, all you do to vote now,
- 3:20please, anyone that is in the room right
- 3:23now or watches this on uh YouTube or X
- 3:26later on and you have a Tesla account,
- 3:29please, please log in and vote.
- 3:34And I'm going to ask you repeatedly to
- 3:37vote strategically. So, if we just zoom
- 3:40out on this map, you can see there are a
- 3:42whole lot of places where you can vote.
- 3:44Um, but notably most of them are in
- 3:47suburban areas which is literally
- 3:50pointless. It's great if you live in
- 3:52that suburb. Um, and I can include with
- 3:56that things like Mandari. Actually,
- 3:59there's not many in Perth and you've got
- 4:01Mandura. You know for a fact that these
- 4:03are going to be done. The same as Jurian
- 4:06Bay because Geraldton is a previous
- 4:08winner. You absolutely know that Tesla
- 4:11will not just install Geraldton. They
- 4:13will by necessity at the very minimum
- 4:16install Jurian Bay and possibly another
- 4:18one at um Greenhead or somewhere Leman
- 4:22somewhere similar. The same as when
- 4:25Southern Cross won there was no doubt
- 4:28that Meridan and probably Norom were
- 4:31going to get filled in as well as well
- 4:33as probably Calguli.
- 4:36There's also no doubt that with
- 4:38Esperence being last quarter's winner,
- 4:40they Tesla will put a supercharger
- 4:44probably at Ravens Thorp and another one
- 4:46at Jeramonga. So you can go between
- 4:48Albany and Esperence, which is a very
- 4:50common tourist route.
- 4:53Um the real gain to be made is between
- 4:58Perth and the eastern states and that
- 5:01necessitates closing the the massive gap
- 5:04in supercharges between Port Augusta and
- 5:07what would be Southern Cross and will
- 5:09become Esperence and the only two places
- 5:12you can do that is either at Baladonia
- 5:15or Sjuna.
- 5:18So, please, please, if you do nothing
- 5:20else with your Tesla account, log in to
- 5:23vote. You just have to to tap on the you
- 5:26just go into tesla.com and you'll see uh
- 5:29under charging, you can see supercharger
- 5:32voting. Click on that. Log in with your
- 5:35Tesla account and place two votes, one
- 5:40for Belladonia and one for Sjuna because
- 5:43it doesn't matter which end wins.
- 5:47both ends win because what it means is
- 5:50the the
- 5:52desolate trip across the nullore becomes
- 5:55that much easier. So yeah, once again um
- 5:59please please if you haven't already
- 6:00voted, please vote. Now, also um
- 6:06I don't want anyone to take this the
- 6:08wrong way, but please don't vote for
- 6:09Norman because Norman is already going
- 6:12to get done because if Belladonia gets
- 6:14done, Norman has to be done. So, voting
- 6:18for Norman just gives Tessa the
- 6:20opportunity to sort of say, well, you
- 6:23know, Norman got more votes and we'll
- 6:26just do the lowhanging fruit, which is
- 6:27this little loop. We don't just want
- 6:29loops. We want entire routes across the
- 6:32country. So please, just because there
- 6:36are five votes that you can use, you
- 6:38don't have to use all of them.
- 6:39Unfortunately, you can't use multiple
- 6:42votes at one location. It's only one
- 6:44vote, one location. Or should I say one
- 6:46location, one vote. But um yeah, please
- 6:50anyone that watches this or sees this,
- 6:53if you've got friends that have Tesla
- 6:54accounts, please encourage them to vote
- 6:58for both
- 7:00and Sjuna. We want them, we have
- 7:02thousands of Teslas in Western
- 7:04Australia. We want, you know, wouldn't
- 7:06it be lovely to have a thousand plus
- 7:08votes for Baladonia and Sajjuna and send
- 7:12Tesla charging a real message that we
- 7:16want nation building infrastructure
- 7:18because sadly many other governments
- 7:22have
- 7:24tragically failed, specifically failed
- 7:27in providing reliable infrastructure,
- 7:29which we know Tesla will do. All right,
- 7:32enough of that. Um, hi horse. Um, all
- 7:35right. Has anyone got any opening
- 7:37questions or comments? And Tim will
- 7:39definitely get to your Model S questions
- 7:41um, shortly.
- 7:46>> Oh, actually Steve, we've got a casual
- 7:48meetup coming up in Dun Craig, I think.
- 7:53>> Yep. Dra, the Rocky Ridge Tap House.
- 7:57>> Yep.
- 7:58>> Next Sunday, midday.
- 8:02The details are on the Facebook event
- 8:04that's been created and also the email
- 8:07that you pushed out as chair.
- 8:09>> Yep. Cool. Very good. All right. Look
- 8:12forward to seeing everyone there on
- 8:14Sunday.
- 8:16>> Talk about we can talk about
- 8:17supercharger voting as well.
- 8:20>> Well, and we shall too.
- 8:24>> Absolutely. Excellent. And
- 8:25>> and Steve, I checked it out for you
- 8:27today for lunch, so I can tell you the
- 8:30cider and the ribs are good. So,
- 8:32>> what about the vegetarian options?
- 8:34>> Uh, the wife had that, so she had the
- 8:37pumpkin hummus or something. So, that
- 8:40was apparently pretty good, too.
- 8:42>> Good. Excellent. Thank you, Paul.
- 8:44>> You're welcome.
- 8:45>> Very good. All right. Well, with that
- 8:47little bit of housekeeping out the way,
- 8:50uh, let's go to back to opening
- 8:52questions or comments.
- 9:00You happy if I go there, Harold?
- 9:01>> Yeah, we might as well, Tim, because we
- 9:03got a quiet bit. Sometimes the show's a
- 9:05bit slow to start and then sometimes it
- 9:06really revs up towards the end when
- 9:08we're trying to go to bed. But yeah, go.
- 9:10>> Um, yeah, my question is just, um, for
- 9:13anyone who might have familiarity with
- 9:15the Tesla toolbox software, uh, and has
- 9:19used it. And I'm looking at just getting
- 9:21a day use. I think it's $115 for one day
- 9:25use. And the reason being um I mentioned
- 9:29I had the battery failure probably about
- 9:31a year and a half ago. The um Tesla
- 9:35replaced it um with the with the 90 kWh.
- 9:40>> Um they went to the trouble of changing
- 9:43the decal on the boot to from 85 to 90.
- 9:47>> Yes.
- 9:47>> But they didn't change the software to
- 9:50reflect the uh 90 the internal software.
- 9:54So, I still have a 85
- 9:56on the uh on the onscreen display on the
- 9:59menu. Um,
- 10:01>> yes. Now, I've seen an online video um
- 10:04where the guy uses his um Tesla toolbox
- 10:08and he's just a third party repairer who
- 10:11uses his uh Tesla toolbox to and he just
- 10:15puts the he puts in a he put in a 100
- 10:18kilowatth battery for this particular
- 10:20YouTube video
- 10:22and it's just a drop-own box in the
- 10:24software where you decide whether you
- 10:26whatever size battery you put in. Then
- 10:28that sets the internal car software to
- 10:31reflect the battery size. Yep.
- 10:34>> Now Tesla will do this for me for
- 10:38$1,027.
- 10:41>> So hang on. Is this actually increasing
- 10:44the capacity? So you they both did did
- 10:48you get the battery under warranty?
- 10:51>> It was done under warranty. Yes, it was
- 10:55the it was done as a goodwill. It was
- 10:57out of warranty, but it was
- 10:59>> Did you pay Okay, I'll rephrase it. Did
- 11:00you Did you pay for it?
- 11:02>> No,
- 11:03>> they they they did a Goodwill
- 11:05replacement.
- 11:06>> Yep.
- 11:06>> And the good goodwill replacement um was
- 11:10free. Uh, so I don't have any recourse
- 11:13to sort of jump up and down. Um, because
- 11:18>> So, and did they tell you that they
- 11:21Sorry, they did tell you that they they
- 11:23replace the 85 kWh pack with a 90 kWh
- 11:27pack,
- 11:28>> correct?
- 11:28>> Did they tell you that they
- 11:31software limited the capacity of the
- 11:34battery to be 85 kilwatt hours in line
- 11:36with the battery they replaced?
- 11:39They didn't say precisely what it is
- 11:43limited to. Only only I do know that the
- 11:46range at the moment with 90 kilwatt
- 11:48hours is about 402
- 11:51kilometers. That's what it's telling me
- 11:53now with a 90. Um, and I'm not sure
- 11:57whether that's reflective of an 85 or a
- 12:0090, but it's it's really just a um case
- 12:03of having the screen software look nice.
- 12:07And I'm not sure whether the BMS is
- 12:09actually seeing um the 90 kilowatt hour
- 12:12regardless. I think I I suspect I'm
- 12:14actually getting 90 kilwatt hours of
- 12:17kilwatt hours of range, but what I don't
- 12:20have is a screen that shows me a a 90
- 12:23kilowatt hour. Um it doesn't say 90D,
- 12:26for example. Tim Tim, if I can just cut
- 12:29in here for for a sec because I've got a
- 12:31a 2015 85D and we get 345ks
- 12:36of range at Oh, yeah.
- 12:42>> Do you know what? I'm going to come back
- 12:43to you and just uh just fact check this.
- 12:46So, you saying that's 100% you get 402,
- 12:49>> correct? Yep.
- 12:50>> Okay. All right. I'll I'll just uh I'll
- 12:52just check what we get.
- 12:54Um, so I think one of the biggest issues
- 12:56is
- 12:59you didn't pay for it. So unfort like
- 13:02Well, actually what I'd do is I would
- 13:03ask Tesla. So you said that Tesla
- 13:05offered to change the wording
- 13:09on the screen, which is your software
- 13:12screen, which shows your car and its
- 13:13name.
- 13:15Uh, they they've they've said that will
- 13:17cost you a So was it $1,000, $1,100,
- 13:20whatever? Over $1,000, right? I guess
- 13:23the question to ask is what are you
- 13:25getting for the $1,000?
- 13:28>> If all you're getting is a font, let's
- 13:31call it a um a text change on the
- 13:35software screen only. Bearing in mind
- 13:38that the technical description of your
- 13:40car is a model S.
- 13:44Sorry, is it a P or is it just an 85D?
- 13:47>> 85D. That's its model name.
- 13:50>> So that's it. In fact, that's its legal
- 13:52name under the registration papers.
- 13:55Although they might it might have just
- 13:56said Model S under your Rejo papers
- 13:59under model, but it's it's effectively
- 14:02the designator
- 14:05of the car is model S85D.
- 14:09That's what Tesla used to call those
- 14:11kind of cars.
- 14:13>> Also matched to the VIN,
- 14:17>> right? Yep.
- 14:18>> Yeah. So, um,
- 14:21>> so I guess the the real question is what
- 14:23are you trying to gain by changing the
- 14:26the lettering? Now, if all you're
- 14:27gaining is the difference of two numbers
- 14:30for $1,100, that's just pointless. If
- 14:33what you would if what Tesla is saying
- 14:35is it's costing $1,100 because they are
- 14:38going to unlock the extra 5 kilwatt
- 14:40hours of usable because
- 14:44uh they at their well basically because
- 14:46they don't have any 85 packs they put in
- 14:48the larger pack and rather than giving
- 14:51you a freebie they've said no if you
- 14:53want that extra capacity to be unlocked
- 14:57as additional range or usable range then
- 15:00um that's going to cost you $1,100. $00.
- 15:04By way of comparison, I think I paid
- 15:07several thousand on my wife's
- 15:11S60
- 15:13rear wheel drive car because it was
- 15:16actually a cheaper sold as brand new.
- 15:19That option was cheaper than buying a
- 15:23S75
- 15:25and it was I think three grand roughly
- 15:28for the extra software to to uncorp the
- 15:32software limiting or software limitation
- 15:35of removing 15 kW hours of usable just
- 15:39to sell the car for less. So, it sounds
- 15:43to me if it's $1,000 per 5 kW hours,
- 15:45that's kind of the going rate of what
- 15:47Tesla used to do for software
- 15:49limitations or uncawking them. And you
- 15:52need to ask Tesla,
- 15:54>> is the,000
- 15:55plus dollars giving you the extra 5 kW
- 15:58hours usable? In which case, it's up to
- 16:00you whether to use it. One pro tip is,
- 16:03and by all means, do lots of Googling
- 16:05about this and look in the forums.
- 16:08If it is the case that they are limiting
- 16:10the
- 16:14um
- 16:15the top,
- 16:18it it could mean that you could just
- 16:19charge your car at closer to 100% rather
- 16:23than 90%.
- 16:24>> That's that's the query I have as well
- 16:27because I I actually asked them
- 16:28specifically. I said, "What am I getting
- 16:30for $1,000? Are you opening up the extra
- 16:335 kwatt hours?" and he said, "Oh, you'll
- 16:35probably get about 10 kilometers of
- 16:37range." Which didn't really gel with
- 16:40with 5 kilwatt hours I think is I worked
- 16:43out. I think that was about 30.
- 16:46What was it? Yeah, I think it's an extra
- 16:4830ks
- 16:49uh for 5 kwatt hours.
- 16:51>> Yeah.
- 16:52>> But it didn't quite make sense to me
- 16:53what he said that we might might unlock
- 16:55an extra 10 km of range. So, I'm I
- 16:58couldn't get a straight answer out of
- 17:00them. They didn't actually really know.
- 17:01I don't actually I sense that they
- 17:03didn't really know, but they said they
- 17:05couldn't unlock the 90 because of the
- 17:09the big brother nature of Tesla systems
- 17:12is as soon as they went into their
- 17:13laptop and they um added that 5 kW
- 17:16hours, it it obviously um ticked off
- 17:20alarm bells. Well, it basically meant
- 17:22that they they had to they had to
- 17:24charge. So, he said he couldn't do it.
- 17:27>> Yeah. Yeah. So, okay. So that does sound
- 17:29to me like it is actually removing the
- 17:32software limitation for which Tesla
- 17:35headquarters is
- 17:38well from a shareholders point of view
- 17:39rightly saying well if we're going to
- 17:40give someone extra value we'd like to
- 17:42extract it extract some money for that
- 17:46value. Um, I think in hindsight with my
- 17:49wife's car, although I mean it's been
- 17:50sold, you know, many years ago and
- 17:53whatever is
- 17:56often the unlocking the software
- 17:58unlocking I think you can just basically
- 18:01move the slider up to 100% instead and
- 18:03use use the battery that way because in
- 18:07the Model S's your your recommendation
- 18:09is I think still 90%.
- 18:11>> So you can just slide your slide to 100
- 18:13and use it use the capacity anyway.
- 18:16Yeah,
- 18:16>> because it doesn't really matter what
- 18:17the total capacity is. It's what the
- 18:19dayto-day usable is that really counts.
- 18:23>> And is it worth a thousand bucks?
- 18:26>> You got something for nothing. I mean,
- 18:28you get nothing. You you got it replaced
- 18:30under warranty and now you've got a
- 18:32better pack than you had before.
- 18:34>> Yeah.
- 18:35>> So, so Tim, I I can't actually find um a
- 18:38recent screenshot of when we last had
- 18:40the car at 100%. But I'm pretty sure we
- 18:42get about 390 ks now at 100. Yeah, 100%.
- 18:47And it's got 160,000 ks on it. So it
- 18:50doesn't sound like there's that much in
- 18:51it really. If you've been driving
- 18:53slightly more efficiently, I'd say
- 18:55that's still within the same similar
- 18:56ballpark.
- 18:58>> Yeah. Right. I just uh uh for those who
- 19:01have seen that that's I've got the cable
- 19:03that's the cable with the uh the LAN
- 19:06connection at the end. But um that
- 19:09particular cable is 12 bucks or
- 19:12something online. But um yeah, I'm sort
- 19:14of half tempted to have a red hot go
- 19:16with um getting this test Tesla toolbox,
- 19:19but I just wanted to see if anyone had
- 19:21might have played around.
- 19:22>> So and was this to try and to tweak it
- 19:24up to get the higher capacity, you mean?
- 19:27>> Yes. Yeah.
- 19:28>> Uh, look, it's you've already you've
- 19:30already described that Tesla themselves
- 19:32said that if they try anything at the
- 19:34workshop that head office will quickly
- 19:37shut that down.
- 19:39>> Yeah. So,
- 19:40>> there's no reason to believe that
- 19:41somehow if you do it that there'll be a
- 19:43different result. Um, look,
- 19:46>> it's your car. You own it. You can have
- 19:48a red hot crack.
- 19:50>> Uh, do all the Googling. Look at, you
- 19:52know, people like Rich Rebuilds who do
- 19:54all sorts of interesting things.
- 19:55inverted commas of Teslas.
- 19:58I guess you've got very little to lose
- 20:01probably. Um,
- 20:04yeah, that's that's about the the depth
- 20:08of the knowledge we have here as far as
- 20:10things like that. Um,
- 20:14yeah, I Yeah, look, give it a crack if
- 20:16you're curious, and if not,
- 20:18>> yeah,
- 20:18>> you've still got a great pack. Um,
- 20:21>> it might it might cost meundred $115 for
- 20:24a day's use of uh Tesla toolbox and I
- 20:27might just end up uh no no difference.
- 20:30Anyway,
- 20:31>> um what might be useful is
- 20:35if you've got um
- 20:39I remember with the old Model X I had a
- 20:42um OBD connector adapter that plugs in.
- 20:46And it's under Yeah, it's where you I
- 20:48think it's where you plug in the
- 20:49Ethernet thing. Very similar very
- 20:51similar uh uh setup where you can then
- 20:54hook up a dongle and have a look at what
- 20:57your battery pack's actually doing. And
- 20:59that might be quite instructive,
- 21:01especially when it comes to charging it
- 21:03to say 100% as opposed to 90%. And you
- 21:06might actually work out for yourself
- 21:09that you're just better off just
- 21:10sweeping the the charge. Actually, do do
- 21:13this experiment on all cars that really
- 21:16do need to be at 90% for the old S's and
- 21:18X's or at 80% for the 3es and Y's, the
- 21:22long range 3es and Y's.
- 21:24>> Do the experiment. Do you still see the
- 21:26daily and the trip tick marks on your
- 21:30battery charging slider under the
- 21:33charging um menu?
- 21:35>> Yep. Yep.
- 21:36>> Right. So, it still says daily and trip.
- 21:38>> Yes.
- 21:40>> Okay. Then try to slide it to 100% and
- 21:43see if it gives you the warning that
- 21:45says you should only use this for trips.
- 21:48>> Yeah. Although I'll have to check that
- 21:50because I um my wife's got a model Y so
- 21:53I might be mistaking that. What what the
- 21:55SL
- 21:56>> So do that experiment. So because uh
- 21:59Richard Chapman, you're still in the
- 22:00house. I think you're still there. Yes,
- 22:02you are. your your your X and S still
- 22:05says 90% for for daily
- 22:10Richard
- 22:11who will come back to us later. Uh we'll
- 22:13we'll follow.
- 22:14>> No, I'm here. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:17Absolutely. Bang on. Yeah. So it's Yeah.
- 22:1990% is the
- 22:20>> Still 90, right?
- 22:22>> Yeah. It's the appropriate um charge
- 22:24level on a daily for that chemistry.
- 22:26>> Perfect. So, so Tim, I highly recommend
- 22:30you while you're charging the car, slide
- 22:32the slider to 100 and see what it says.
- 22:34If it stays silent,
- 22:37then there's literally no point in
- 22:40paying the money because you've already
- 22:42got the usage by charging to the 100%
- 22:45which is similar to 90% if the whole
- 22:48capacity was shown to you.
- 22:50>> Yes. Yeah. So, um,
- 22:52>> well, that's that's you gave me a good
- 22:54idea because I do have that um uh that
- 22:57dongle, the OBD MX Plus already with the
- 23:02>> then
- 23:04do the slide.
- 23:06>> Yep. Then do the slide and also uh chuck
- 23:10in the dongle and have a look with scan
- 23:12my Tessa or whatever and um
- 23:15>> that way you'll have a good look to see
- 23:17what the battery is really doing.
- 23:19>> Yeah. Yeah, that's great. Great. I
- 23:21appreciate that. Thank you.
- 23:23>> No worries. All righty. Anyone else got
- 23:25any questions or comments?
- 23:33>> All right. Well, thanks for joining us.
- 23:35Um Pete, how would you uh
- 23:38>> No,
- 23:39>> I was going to say um
- 23:41>> how how does this all go with the uh
- 23:45version 14? I think there's 33 cars in
- 23:48Australia or something. or did you bring
- 23:50that up at the start?
- 23:52>> No. So, I'm going to get dig out the
- 23:55email that uh was sent to everyone who
- 23:59has FSD or wanted to
- 24:03subscribe to FSD.
- 24:05>> Got it in front of me if you need it.
- 24:07>> Yeah. No, I got it. Um, okay. So, I'll
- 24:10just got to check there's nothing uh
- 24:13until
- 24:15uh so I can put it up.
- 24:18Uh it's got my email address, but no one
- 24:21really cares about that. Uh I just got
- 24:23to check something. Yeah, let's zoom in
- 24:26a little bit.
- 24:27>> So, basically, it's got uh we're
- 24:30reaching out with an update regarding
- 24:32full self-driving supervised activation
- 24:33on your Model Y. This will also apply,
- 24:36by the way, to anyone that's got a very
- 24:37recent model 3. FSD supervised V14 for
- 24:43hardware for vehicles is in its final
- 24:46stages of local development and testing.
- 24:48This release represents a meaningful
- 24:50step forward in performance and
- 24:52capability, and we want to ensure your
- 24:54experience reflects that from the moment
- 24:58it's available on your vehicle. While we
- 25:00don't have a confirmed date to share
- 25:02just yet, please know that our team is
- 25:04actively working on development and
- 25:07you'll be notified as soon as an update
- 25:09is ready to install on your vehicle. For
- 25:11subscription customers, billing will
- 25:13again h sorry, billing will begin
- 25:16automatically once the software has been
- 25:18installed. Thanks for your patience. Now
- 25:21what's the big news thing is
- 25:24without uh relying on any inside
- 25:26information. If you read this as is
- 25:29written, it's basically implying that
- 25:32the only way you'll get FSD supervised
- 25:36on these recent cars is for it to be
- 25:39version 14. So what that if you read
- 25:43between the lines, what it's saying is
- 25:45version 13, which all of the older cars
- 25:48have with real FSD, is not compatible
- 25:52with these new cars. So that's the
- 25:55interpretation as you read between the
- 25:57lines.
- 25:59So really, it's just an update from the
- 26:01email that we all got as purchasers of
- 26:05these new cars prior to them arriving is
- 26:09we got the warning that said that um
- 26:11FSC, it didn't explain why, but this
- 26:13email basically, if you read between the
- 26:15lines, is saying that for whatever
- 26:17reason, the software incompatibility
- 26:20with these vehicles is such that Tesla
- 26:23is only running version 14 through them.
- 26:26And obviously, they're working on it.
- 26:28So that's that's the big story as far as
- 26:31and and I guess the good news then
- 26:33therefore means that once all of these
- 26:35new cars that have been deprived of FSD
- 26:38get FSD then the older cars namely the
- 26:42Highland Model 3s and the Juniper and
- 26:46some of the classic Model Y's the
- 26:47younger ones will also get um FSD
- 26:53version 14 which is great.
- 26:57It also
- 26:58>> fabulous
- 26:59>> model Y L. Yeah.
- 27:02>> Uh it's for well it's a Model Y L. So we
- 27:04know Model Y L is from Shanghai. We know
- 27:08that the
- 27:10performance Model Y from Berlin are also
- 27:14affected and we know the Model 3s which
- 27:18are also from Shanghai. um we don't get
- 27:21any cars from any other of the
- 27:23factories, but we definitely know that
- 27:25Shanghai and this is something that
- 27:27happened
- 27:28in the last few months
- 27:32um for for brand new cars that I I know
- 27:38for example my wife's um let's call it
- 27:41refreshed juniper or enhanced juniper,
- 27:44standard juniper long range that came
- 27:48out about in November.
- 27:50October, November last year that had to
- 27:53wait a little while but that got what we
- 27:55call now classic FS well the current FSD
- 27:58version 13 something. So between back
- 28:03then and a month or two ago there's been
- 28:07a change in the way Tesla set up these
- 28:09cars. And like I said, reading between
- 28:11the lines, it's basically saying that
- 28:13these cars will not use anything less
- 28:15than version 14,
- 28:18which they're working on. And something
- 28:20that's definitely official is that Tesla
- 28:23is working on its own version of FSD for
- 28:28Australian conditions. This is not a
- 28:31mirrored American version or right
- 28:34lefthand drive version. This is a an
- 28:36Australian
- 28:38trained specific
- 28:41right-hand drive version for Australian
- 28:43conditions.
- 28:45>> So, what's going to be interesting is
- 28:48what version 14 actually brings uh to
- 28:51Australia. So, whether we get the true
- 28:54pointto-oint, the car park to car park,
- 28:57whether that's one of the enhancements
- 29:00or I mean personally I'd just be happy
- 29:03if the reliability
- 29:05>> anything up
- 29:07>> basically true. Uh but yeah, I mean if
- 29:10it um the most of the mistakes seem to
- 29:13be from being in the wrong lane. So
- 29:16incorrect lane selection seems to be at
- 29:19the uh that and and car parks seem to be
- 29:23at the root of most of the um safety
- 29:27interventions that I've been doing. So
- 29:30yeah, if they can iron that out, that
- 29:32would be awesome. Uh if we get car park
- 29:35to car park that would be a very nice
- 29:38bonus.
- 29:40Um if we get to pick um your
- 29:44destination. So if you can say well you
- 29:47know I'm not just going to Lakeside
- 29:49Junop shopping center, I'm going to the
- 29:51Hoits car park or I'm going to the um
- 29:54Australia Post car park or what have
- 29:56you. That would be u that would be
- 29:58pretty cool. Um, but I don't think we'll
- 30:01get
- 30:03uh options for the different um driving
- 30:07modes, you know, like Mad Max and sloth
- 30:10and whatever. I think we'll just stay
- 30:12with the default one.
- 30:14>> In America, the the defiance of posted
- 30:18speed limits is normal behavior.
- 30:22Uh, and that's something that that is
- 30:25just not tolerated in Australia. So,
- 30:28>> but but even even an Australian version,
- 30:31I don't think we'll even get an
- 30:32Australian version of the different
- 30:34profiles, I think.
- 30:35>> No, no, because because our version will
- 30:37just do the speed limit because Mad Max,
- 30:40I think definitely speeds and stays with
- 30:43traffic and is more aggressive. I mean,
- 30:45the aggressiveness is is fine, but I
- 30:47think it definitely goes faster than the
- 30:50posted speed limits. And like I said, in
- 30:52Australia, that's just forbidden by
- 30:54definition. But you know how on osteo
- 30:58we've got um
- 31:01I forget what the names are because I
- 31:03haven't used it for so long. Uh you know
- 31:06how there's is it Mad Max? I think Mad
- 31:09Max is still one.
- 31:11>> Yeah.
- 31:12>> So the different profiles. So I don't
- 31:14think we'll get those profiles on the
- 31:17true supervised with city streets on
- 31:21hardware for I think we'll just yeah be
- 31:24stuck on that default one.
- 31:26>> We got Shane and Sarah joining us.
- 31:28>> Yeah. Yeah. They've been they've been
- 31:29with us for a little while and they're
- 31:31in a model. What what version FSD are
- 31:33you guys using?
- 31:35>> We haven't got one.
- 31:36>> We haven't we haven't even got premium
- 31:38connectivity in this thing.
- 31:39>> We're having to use Bluetooth for music.
- 31:43>> All right. So you got So you only got
- 31:44autopilot. Crappy autopilot.
- 31:46>> Only got autopilot. Yeah strikes along
- 31:49the way.
- 31:49>> Had a couple of strikes. Yeah.
- 31:52>> Yeah. At least they wear off fairly
- 31:53quickly. Um le autopilot sticks to the
- 31:56speed limit. Shane,
- 31:59>> this one this one only lets you go 10ks
- 32:01over.
- 32:03>> And the regular traffic is doing maybe
- 32:0620 25 over.
- 32:08>> And that's including the trucks like the
- 32:10semis and whatnot. They're doing 25ks
- 32:13over the limit
- 32:15>> because in Canadia they they they drive
- 32:18like the Americans.
- 32:21>> They're a bit crazy. Yep.
- 32:22>> Especially in the cities.
- 32:23>> So, whereabouts are you guys?
- 32:27>> Halfway across. Nearly. We're nearly in
- 32:29Winnipeg today.
- 32:30>> So, Oh, yes.
- 32:32>> Where actually are we?
- 32:34>> So, you're on the TransCanadian Highway.
- 32:36>> Yeah.
- 32:36>> Correct. Yeah. Cool.
- 32:37>> Yeah. We're
- 32:39>> This is the Can you see that? Canadian
- 32:41Tire. This is their Bunnings.
- 32:43>> Oh, hang on. Let me just uh let me just
- 32:46uh spotlight you so you can
- 32:50>> Canadian.
- 32:53>> Yeah, it's kind of like their Bunnings
- 32:54over here. They're they're sort of like
- 32:56>> sort of a Bunnings, but they're sort of
- 32:58everywhere
- 32:58>> and everywhere you go.
- 33:02>> Look at that.
- 33:03>> Bloody superchargers everywhere.
- 33:06$6 supercharger at Bunnings
- 33:09>> and at Bunnings and every little every
- 33:12little
- 33:13>> 150 200k max. It's
- 33:15>> just crazy.
- 33:16>> So So there were three Canadians that
- 33:18that took a Tesla without any
- 33:20intervention
- 33:22uh from east to west.
- 33:25And it's funny because a few people have
- 33:29been posting towards me on X saying,
- 33:32"Oh, you know, when are you going to do
- 33:34a a uh you know, Australia's first
- 33:36interventionless
- 33:39um lap around Australia
- 33:41>> intervention?"
- 33:42>> And
- 33:44>> oh, no intervention like not touching
- 33:46anything. Oh,
- 33:47>> like just hitting go on FSD. And this is
- 33:51including charging because because in
- 33:53America and and in um Canadia um the
- 33:57cars will reverse to a supercharger
- 34:00store. You don't have to for park. They
- 34:02do they do the whole lot right
- 34:04everything. Now in Australia I can
- 34:06guarantee you for the next 10 years I
- 34:08will never be able to do an
- 34:09interventionless
- 34:11um lap around Australia. Cuz how the
- 34:14hell do I tell my car to go around the
- 34:16back of Sandfire Roadhouse and park next
- 34:19to the next to the crappy unknown WV
- 34:22network tridium that probably won't be
- 34:24working anyway? So, or um how many
- 34:28kangaroos have you seen on the
- 34:29TransCanadian um highway lately?
- 34:32>> Actually, we haven't even seen any
- 34:34roadkill.
- 34:35>> I've seen nothing.
- 34:36>> No, because there's so much traffic and
- 34:39so many so many road trains or
- 34:41semi-trailers or whatever. It's it's
- 34:43like going on the eastern seabboard
- 34:45between say Sydney and um Brisbane.
- 34:49>> Yeah, there's bush and stuff, but
- 34:50there's no roadkill because there's no
- 34:52wildlife either left or they've got
- 34:54fences that are, you know, 8 foot fences
- 34:57>> that fence them in or fence them out,
- 34:59should I say.
- 35:00>> But in Australia where you got cattle
- 35:02going across the road
- 35:03>> with gay abandoned,
- 35:05>> there's all these all these warning
- 35:07signs for moose.
- 35:09>> Um but we're we well We wound up we
- 35:13wound up let's
- 35:14>> not jinx it.
- 35:14>> We wound up staying at a random
- 35:16Canadian's house last night just because
- 35:19long story
- 35:20>> the road was closed.
- 35:21>> Um
- 35:22>> there's only one road
- 35:23>> but we we're talking to them. We're
- 35:24saying about all these moose signs where
- 35:27where are all the moose? We haven't seen
- 35:29any.
- 35:30>> And um yeah, apparently that's not
- 35:32really a thing. Whereas in Australia if
- 35:35you see if you see a cow sign or a
- 35:37kangaroo sign you bloody obey it. Yeah,
- 35:40they are fair.
- 35:42Oh, very good.
- 35:43>> The charger charger network over here
- 35:44has just been a revelation. It's so
- 35:47good.
- 35:48>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If you wanted to
- 35:50imagine towing a car, imagine towing
- 35:51your caravan.
- 35:53>> Yeah.
- 35:54>> The TransCan Canadian Highway. I mean,
- 35:55it would just be so easy.
- 35:57>> A Y with a big a big van yesterday on
- 35:59it. We didn't get chance to chat to them
- 36:01actually.
- 36:01>> And we spoke to a Cyber Truck guy with a
- 36:03big caravan as well.
- 36:04>> He's only getting what was he 180 range
- 36:06out of his
- 36:06>> something like that. Yeah. Not much.
- 36:08>> Yeah. Not much. No, that's right. Oh,
- 36:11very good. So, you guys are halfway
- 36:12through your trip then.
- 36:14>> Yeah,
- 36:14>> pretty much. Awesome.
- 36:15>> Heading to the mountain.
- 36:17>> Um,
- 36:17>> yes, that'll be good.
- 36:19>> Fantastic.
- 36:20>> All right.
- 36:21>> One one thing that we did did do right
- 36:22in Australia is all have the same
- 36:24>> Oh, yeah.
- 36:25>> All the same plugs.
- 36:27>> Yeah. There are about four different
- 36:28types of plugs. Um,
- 36:30>> so superchargers are fine, but any other
- 36:32DC you need an adapter.
- 36:34>> Yes, that's right.
- 36:36>> Don't come with a higher car. Yeah, it's
- 36:38it's been great being in a familiar car,
- 36:41even if it's on the other side of the
- 36:42car, another side of the road.
- 36:44>> It it is. No, it and and even with
- 36:47ordinary autopilot, it just takes away
- 36:49that
- 36:50>> it does just that extra level of
- 36:51thinking,
- 36:52>> that minutia, it just Yeah, it lets your
- 36:54brain relax for a while and you get used
- 36:56to your sitting position and stuff. So,
- 36:59>> yeah. and just jumping in, you know,
- 37:00you're on a plane for 27 hours, jump in
- 37:02your high car and it will set to your,
- 37:04you know, all of the easy easy kind of
- 37:07things.
- 37:08>> Kind of funny. You scan the little QR
- 37:10code in the car and it sets your um it
- 37:13sets all your mirror positions in
- 37:15everything but everything's backwards.
- 37:18So, your mirrors your mirrors don't
- 37:20exactly work cuz they're backwards.
- 37:24>> Ah, well, there you go. There's a
- 37:26feature request. Who would have who
- 37:28would have funked it that um Hey Tesla,
- 37:30you need to mirror the mirror.
- 37:31>> Check which country we're in, please.
- 37:33>> You need to invert the mirror in the C
- 37:35position. Yeah.
- 37:36>> Well, yeah, the premium connectivity is
- 37:37a bit of a pain. So, I don't know if
- 37:38anyone there's got any suggestions for
- 37:40us because
- 37:42>> and if it involves,
- 37:45>> forget it.
- 37:46>> Forget talking to Herz. It's pointless.
- 37:48Um
- 37:49>> Yeah. The only thing you can do is is uh
- 37:52uh spot uh spot thingy off your um
- 37:56mobile
- 37:56>> hotspot off the phone.
- 37:58>> Hot hotspot off your phone. That's all
- 37:59you can do.
- 38:00>> Yeah,
- 38:00>> unfortunately.
- 38:01>> That's a shame. That's a shame.
- 38:03>> In hindsight, you could have had a
- 38:04Starling You could have bought a
- 38:05Starling Mini with you and that for a
- 38:08month you get the same service.
- 38:10>> I think we had we were
- 38:12>> I think we're pretty much on our baggage
- 38:13limit.
- 38:13>> Yeah, we were 500 g short of baggage
- 38:15anyway. So, it wasn't happening.
- 38:18Yeah, that's it. All right. Well, it's
- 38:21great that you guys are having fun.
- 38:22>> Yeah. Yeah. Do keep going. And uh good
- 38:25to see you.
- 38:25>> Start today.
- 38:26>> Yeah. It was 10 7 in the morning
- 38:28yesterday. Wednesday morning. So,
- 38:31>> this morning. It's tonight.
- 38:32>> Yeah. Where where you from?
- 38:34>> 7 a.m. this morning.
- 38:36>> Yeah.
- 38:37>> Well, we can tell you that lunch lunch
- 38:39was good. So, you got lunch to look
- 38:40forward to. There's no dramas.
- 38:42>> Keep driving. Keep driving. You'll get
- 38:43there.
- 38:44>> And dinner was great. By by dinner time,
- 38:47you should be uh several hundred miles
- 38:49down the road.
- 38:50>> Oh, we will. The And the roads have been
- 38:52great and we've been lucky with the
- 38:53weather. So,
- 38:53>> yeah.
- 38:54>> Yeah. Fantastic.
- 38:55>> So far,
- 38:56>> happy day.
- 38:56>> Awesome. Enjoy. All right. Good to see
- 38:59you guys. Take care. Cheers.
- 39:03>> All righty. Uh that little interlude.
- 39:06Has anyone got any other questions or
- 39:07comments?
- 39:08>> Uh with regard to um the update, will
- 39:12they fix the speed? cuz we've just stood
- 39:15across Australia and the speed has been
- 39:18appalling where it's just you set it at
- 39:20110 115 and it just does 100.
- 39:27>> Mine used to do 90.
- 39:28>> Yeah, it does. Sometimes it drifts right
- 39:30the way down to 90 and you think why it
- 39:34is that all the things it might you
- 39:36could understand them getting wrong. I
- 39:38can't understand why the speed just
- 39:39drifts down.
- 39:42Yeah.
- 39:44I thought 115 that might actually keep
- 39:46you 105. It didn't. It just
- 39:48>> No. So when you do that on FSD on on the
- 39:52um proper FSD,
- 39:55it's as you approach that limit, it's
- 39:58actually a maximum speed which is
- 40:00hardcoded into the software.
- 40:03So the car will not basically go above
- 40:06that that speed. And if you invoke it to
- 40:08slow it down to that maximum, it the car
- 40:11will quite quickly respond and go down
- 40:13to that to be no more than that speed.
- 40:16>> But it unfortunately doesn't take it as
- 40:19like a suggestion of where it you want
- 40:21it to be. It's just a hard limit. So
- 40:24it's uh
- 40:25>> it doesn't even kick. I mean it's 110
- 40:27speed limit or even 130 in the Northern
- 40:29Territory and it was going down to 100
- 40:32>> in the end. I just got used to driving
- 40:33around at 100. Just like I'll stuff it.
- 40:35It's just a lot easier to just like
- 40:37cruise along at 100.
- 40:38>> Just tap your just tap your right foot.
- 40:40You get a sore toe, but you just keep
- 40:43helping it with the accelerator.
- 40:44>> It just Yeah, but then you it perfects
- 40:46your economy because you're constantly
- 40:47going up and down and up and down. If
- 40:49you just keep 100, your economy goes
- 40:51really good.
- 40:52>> So, it's just a pain.
- 40:55>> Yeah. Well, yeah. It's a It's a classic
- 40:58first world tested problem with FSD. Um,
- 41:01which hopefully they will. Yeah, but it
- 41:03should if you set 110 and it's 110, it
- 41:05should stick 110. It did did with
- 41:08autopilot.
- 41:11>> Now, there's actually a good segue with
- 41:13um Shane and Sarah who are in Canada or
- 41:17so uh Canadia, which is not that far
- 41:20from Route 66.
- 41:22>> Well, it is actually. It's a long it's
- 41:23it's thousands of miles from Route 66.
- 41:26But the reason why 66 is a is an
- 41:29important number is because that's the
- 41:33rank of Mark and Shirley who just came
- 41:37back from a successful circumnavigation
- 41:39of Australia. They are the 66th
- 41:43>> uh uh around Australia um lap in a pure
- 41:47EV.
- 41:49>> So beaten beaten by James 65th.
- 41:52>> No. Uh, no. There was James. James and
- 41:55Janine were 64.
- 41:57>> And then Rod O'Donnell uh in Aza was uh
- 42:0265.
- 42:03>> That's it.
- 42:04>> So 66 66 67 68.
- 42:08Just need two more people to go around.
- 42:11Just two more. Um
- 42:15>> Tesla. I want FSD soonish.
- 42:18>> Yes. I would like to be 42.
- 42:21>> Yeah. Uh, who was 42?
- 42:24Who was 42? Uh, Tim Dero in a uh highend
- 42:30Kona.
- 42:31>> Tim's Tim's a a sand graer from Harvey.
- 42:34So, he was 42.
- 42:37>> So, there you go. So, how was it? Um,
- 42:39Mark, um, tell us a little bit about
- 42:41your lap because I don't I can't
- 42:43remember. You haven't been on the
- 42:44program for a long time. So,
- 42:47>> no, no, because we wait for 10 weeks.
- 42:48Spent 10 weeks doing it. Not not 10
- 42:50days. Good. Your your your 10 days be 10
- 42:53weeks.
- 42:55>> That's a great way of doing it. Just
- 42:56quietly. 10 weeks would be awesome.
- 42:59>> It was It was very very good. Very very
- 43:01enjoyable. Brilliant. And um what's it
- 43:04full self-driving saved us from one of
- 43:07the the Brahman cow cows up there.
- 43:10>> Yep. Driving along really narrow road.
- 43:13Bush fairly close in either side.
- 43:15Warnings of cattle.
- 43:17>> Saw some cattle up ahead. Slowed down
- 43:19for the cattle. watching in left hand
- 43:21side all the side and one came out from
- 43:23the right which I never saw. The first
- 43:25thing I knew about it was the car was
- 43:26breaking. I saw it and hit the brakes. I
- 43:29missed it by six foot.
- 43:31>> Yes. Yeah. Unlike someone else I know
- 43:33who didn't.
- 43:36>> Yes. But that was autopilot.
- 43:39>> Yeah,
- 43:39>> that was autopilot. And it was dark as
- 43:41well when you I was in daylight at
- 43:43least.
- 43:44>> Yeah. And there was a guy in a Subaru
- 43:46facing the other way with his LED light
- 43:48bar blinding everything. But um never
- 43:51mind.
- 43:53>> It was absolutely brilliant. Really
- 43:54really enjoyed it.
- 43:57>> Fantastic. Um so would you recommend
- 43:59>> was a game changer.
- 44:01>> Well, would you recommend anyone else
- 44:02does it anytime soon?
- 44:04>> Oh yes, definitely. If if you've got the
- 44:06time, you got the money, just do it.
- 44:09>> I wonder where we passed you, Mark. Cuz
- 44:11um
- 44:12>> I don't know where you passed it. If you
- 44:14went around the other way.
- 44:16>> Yeah.
- 44:17>> I mean, you you literally you literally
- 44:18live three three or four streets away
- 44:20from us.
- 44:21>> Yeah.
- 44:22>> If you were going around one, we were
- 44:23going around the other.
- 44:25>> Sorry, Mark. I haven't been
- 44:28>> Is that a full lap you did? Sorry,
- 44:30James.
- 44:30>> Yeah, full lap. Yeah.
- 44:31>> Oh, awesome. Sorry.
- 44:33>> But we did we did the full lap and we
- 44:35went we took Rob's advice and took the
- 44:37Savannah way up at the top there. who
- 44:39went a bit higher up Queensland and
- 44:41across the top and that was a bit of a
- 44:43pain
- 44:45>> because how did why why was it a pain
- 44:48there?
- 44:49because uh we've got one day where we've
- 44:51got 476
- 44:53KS I think it was to do
- 44:56um may have been just a bit less than
- 44:58that and um as we're going across there
- 45:01was a detour
- 45:04100k detour
- 45:07and no refueling spot and eventually I
- 45:09ended up limping into the uh place with
- 45:142% left on the battery
- 45:16>> and what's more what's more I had
- 45:18street. I had to go across about an 8 in
- 45:22probably
- 45:2440 50 m we across
- 45:29thing and this was this was a a um done
- 45:33by the roads department. This was the
- 45:36detour that everyone was supposed to go
- 45:38down and going up the other side was
- 45:40like he was
- 45:42I I just looked at it and went this is
- 45:45the four-wheel drive and this is not for
- 45:46a Model Y but I had no battery to turn
- 45:50around. I had no option. I had to go
- 45:52forward and that's where tech actual the
- 45:55software and everything was telling me
- 45:56to go and that was a roads thing. In
- 45:58fact, at one point there was a grader
- 45:59coming the other way. We had to move
- 46:01over to let the grader pass because they
- 46:03were still making it trackable.
- 46:07So, um
- 46:10I guess yeah, it's a bit like that Star
- 46:12Treking Star Treking song, always moving
- 46:15forward cuz we can't find reverse. So,
- 46:17for you, there was no reverse. It was
- 46:19just
- 46:19>> because there was no option. I didn't
- 46:21have any only way I could go was
- 46:22forward. All I do is keep going slower
- 46:24to ek out my range to get in.
- 46:28>> And how did you get that sort of tip?
- 46:30Where' you where' you find that
- 46:32information as a test drive? There's a
- 46:34couple of old guys I know who've done it
- 46:36before.
- 46:36>> Well, there's a show called Ask Is
- 46:38Anything where it's like, and this is
- 46:40why we bang on that EVs are great
- 46:43because you're in a bind.
- 46:46>> Yeah.
- 46:48>> Unbelievable source. The whole lot of
- 46:50you are all unbelievable source
- 46:52>> and thank you very much for your help.
- 46:55>> Oh, no. It's the club. It's it's all of
- 46:57us in in the in the ones anything that
- 47:00that Yeah. contribute to the to the um
- 47:03to that knowledge that you know if
- 47:05you're really in a pickle just slow down
- 47:07if you really have to because you'll
- 47:09just stretch your range and
- 47:11>> it was it was amazing what a difference
- 47:12it made.
- 47:14>> Yep.
- 47:14>> It really blew me away what a difference
- 47:16it made.
- 47:17>> Yep. And with 2% you probably had an
- 47:19extra 15ks you could have driven anyway
- 47:22or or 10ks.
- 47:24>> So you know you you romped it in. You
- 47:27know you could have sped up towards the
- 47:28end.
- 47:32Excellent. Oh, that's cool. That's
- 47:34>> It was good.
- 47:35>> Well, congratulations number 66. That's
- 47:37twothirds the way to the century.
- 47:40>> So,
- 47:41>> and you know, the first the first uh
- 47:43person to go round was Glenn George in
- 47:452011.
- 47:47>> Incredible that with 33 kW battery.
- 47:50>> Yep. And uh it took another 5 years for
- 47:55Richard McNeel from Sydney to be number
- 47:58two in September 2016.
- 48:01>> So really in let's call it 10 years
- 48:04we've had 65 people go around or 65 cars
- 48:07go around.
- 48:08>> So
- 48:09>> how accurate is that do you think? You
- 48:10think it's pretty accurate for the
- 48:11amount of people?
- 48:12>> This is accurate. the the early ones are
- 48:14dead accurate because we know because
- 48:17>> um
- 48:20>> everyone posted in the old days on plug
- 48:22share I mean it was unavoidable you
- 48:24basically everyone did because there was
- 48:25so few
- 48:27>> um look in modern times there might be a
- 48:30bit of error
- 48:31>> but we're doing the best we can
- 48:33>> but sadly it's not dozens and dozens out
- 48:38it's probably only a handful if that
- 48:40tops
- 48:42>> um so it's still a very good indicator
- 48:44of what's going on. And I guess that's
- 48:46the point as a relative measure. What we
- 48:49want to see is, you know, um I mean,
- 48:52look, if we if we just open I'll just
- 48:55put up the um screen. So Glenn George
- 48:582011 then you know you've got September
- 49:0116, November 16, that's kind of the
- 49:04driving season but then there was
- 49:06nothing until Sylvia you know 18 months
- 49:09later you know 2018 2018 2018 then you
- 49:13got 2019 2019 you've only got a handful
- 49:16a year in 2020 obviously the co the co
- 49:19era
- 49:20>> and then you know it slowly sort of
- 49:23starts ramping up but it's you know
- 49:26happily towards the bottom. We're
- 49:27starting to get, you know, we've got
- 49:30three this year so far and we've got
- 49:33quite a few in 2025, which is really
- 49:36great. You know, you got more than a
- 49:38dozen in 25. But
- 49:40>> um we really want to see exponential
- 49:42growth. But again, sadly, and that's and
- 49:45that's why I'm going to bang on again.
- 49:47We need the
- 49:48>> the only way to cross the nullore
- 49:50reliably
- 49:53>> um is is for is to do it the same way as
- 49:57you cross the eastern seabboard reliably
- 50:00which is with Tesla superchargers.
- 50:02>> Yeah.
- 50:02>> It's sadly the only way
- 50:04>> and the same at the top end there across
- 50:07the top end is still switching it
- 50:09especially the vandalized ones. Even the
- 50:11ones that supposed to be they're just
- 50:13vandalized. They just they just don't
- 50:14work. So, where did you overnight? Um,
- 50:17Mark, did you overnight at Fitzroy River
- 50:19Lodge?
- 50:21>> No,
- 50:23we went to the inn. It's a lovely place
- 50:26>> at Fitzroy Crossing.
- 50:28>> Yeah, Fitzroy Inn. I
- 50:30>> think it's called Fitzroy Inn.
- 50:32>> It's a little bit around the corner from
- 50:34the Fitzroy Lodge.
- 50:35>> It's a fantastic place.
- 50:38>> You pull in there and
- 50:41>> it's a very, very rough donga. very very
- 50:44rough. We went to the bar
- 50:47and was just full of um indigenous
- 50:50people. Fair enough. No, no problem with
- 50:52that. Went up to the bar. Yeah. Want to
- 50:55drink? Oh, shows your driving license.
- 50:57Show his driving license.
- 50:59>> You have to blow first.
- 51:01>> Then you had to blow in a breathalyzer
- 51:04before they would tell you what they got
- 51:06to drink. And when you asked them what
- 51:07they got to drink, all they had were
- 51:08tins of beer. Didn't you have any draft
- 51:10beer? Didn't have any wine. Just tins of
- 51:13beer. That's all you can get. You have
- 51:14to blow a breathalyzer before they give
- 51:16you a drink.
- 51:17>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:18>> First time ever.
- 51:20>> But they don't ever get you to blow
- 51:21again. It's really funny. It's You blow
- 51:23the first time, blow zero the first time
- 51:25and then you can have as many as you
- 51:27like
- 51:28>> and you swap can for can. So you you
- 51:30have one can out, one can in.
- 51:33>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:35>> Yeah. Right. So what's disappointing is
- 51:37>> well
- 51:37>> the only place to charge on threephase
- 51:41at Fitzroy crossing is at the Fitzroy
- 51:44River Lodge.
- 51:45>> That's the only source of three-phase
- 51:47charging because if you looked at it's
- 51:50now been removed off plug share. We got
- 51:52it removed.
- 51:53>> But at the BP uh the three-phase plugs
- 51:56just been smashed to pieces.
- 51:58>> Yeah.
- 51:58>> And um Holes Creek is not much better.
- 52:01You've got the the the um three-phase
- 52:04working. Yeah,
- 52:05>> but the camp power has been smashed to
- 52:07pieces and is not working.
- 52:09>> Yeah.
- 52:10>> Um the one good thing about the lodge
- 52:12was uh not the lodge, sorry. The uh the
- 52:16thing I think it's called the Fitz Roy
- 52:17in Fitzroy Motel or something
- 52:20>> and um that that one um they did let us
- 52:22use the caravan socket
- 52:24>> and that was enough. That's all I
- 52:26needed. I got enough charge when we
- 52:27arrived in to just use that and that
- 52:29just topped us up and that gave us
- 52:30enough to get on. So you filled up at
- 52:33the uh Mueller ranges.
- 52:35>> Yeah, I filled right the way up. Yeah.
- 52:38>> Yeah.
- 52:38>> And then when I got there, I'd got to
- 52:39things I just managed to use the 15 amp
- 52:41and um just kept it under 15 amp just so
- 52:44it didn't trip.
- 52:45>> Yeah.
- 52:45>> And that was more than enough
- 52:47>> to get exact exactly the same. We filled
- 52:49fully up at Mueller range.
- 52:51>> Yeah.
- 52:51>> We're rear wheel drive um 2022.
- 52:54>> Yeah. All credit to you was it to do it
- 52:56with a shorter range because there's a
- 52:58few places I used every bit of range up
- 53:00of ours. And we went to the um we went
- 53:02to the the lodge though, didn't use the
- 53:05tree phase. We got in there about 8:00
- 53:07at night, plugged in, showered, went to
- 53:10bed, woke up, and we woke up on 90 on
- 53:1399%. So,
- 53:14>> wasn't I wish I wish we could have done,
- 53:16but the lodge the lodge was full. They
- 53:19got a coach trip going through
- 53:21>> and so that the night we wanted, we
- 53:23couldn't get.
- 53:24>> Oh, we were camping in the car though,
- 53:25so that's all right.
- 53:27>> Caravan site.
- 53:28>> Yeah.
- 53:30Very good. Oh, he did well there.
- 53:32>> We went stupid. We're about to go um
- 53:34because we didn't go to far north
- 53:36Queensland because of the cyclone.
- 53:39>> Oh, yes. Yeah.
- 53:39>> So, we skipped that.
- 53:41>> Yeah.
- 53:42>> So, next school holidays we're leaving.
- 53:44We were driving to Cans and back. Not
- 53:47doing a lap, just going to Can back.
- 53:48>> Yeah. All right.
- 53:50>> And Mark, guess what? Guess what?
- 53:52They're doing it in
- 53:53>> what?
- 53:55>> James.
- 53:56>> No. No. We're doing it in our rear wheel
- 53:58drive. A new one will not arrive.
- 54:00>> Will not arrive unfortunately.
- 54:02>> Oh, what if you got ordered?
- 54:04>> Ordered.
- 54:05>> Yep.
- 54:08>> Wow.
- 54:09>> Cuz the score in four four weeks time.
- 54:12>> What have you got ordered, James?
- 54:14>> We got a Sorry, James. I thought I think
- 54:15we're going to do it in September
- 54:16holidays.
- 54:17>> Uh we were, but other things in the
- 54:19family have come up and we won't be able
- 54:20to go on those holidays.
- 54:21>> Yeah. Okay, cool. So if anyone is not
- 54:24taking delivery of their Y, we are happy
- 54:26to swap order in the queue because we
- 54:28really like to not have to stop that
- 54:31extra few times.
- 54:33>> Yeah.
- 54:33>> Right. Uh good luck with that ambition
- 54:35there, James. Um
- 54:38>> yes.
- 54:38>> Oh, Model Y. That
- 54:40>> someone can lend you a model. How
- 54:42>> does that go? That about 620 or
- 54:44something like that now.
- 54:45>> Yeah. Well, it's funny. Um cuz when we
- 54:47hit a kangaroo on the way back on the
- 54:49way back.
- 54:49>> Oh, you didn't, did you? Yeah, we did in
- 54:52broom.
- 54:52>> Um bit of caffer tape, some drip ties,
- 54:54all good. Um we got a loan car from
- 54:58Tesla. Um because they do the $85 a day
- 55:01covered by insurance. And when I picked
- 55:03it up, it was um he said, "Oh, we need
- 55:07your car for 10 days." I said, "Oh,
- 55:08what's the kilometer range on this? How
- 55:10many kilometers are we allowed to do?"
- 55:11He said, "Oh, don't worry about it. It's
- 55:12a petrol car. There's no limit." And
- 55:14then he turned around and said, "How far
- 55:16could you go in 10 days?
- 55:21accepted.
- 55:26>> Well, they got a they got an hour at Sky
- 55:28Bridge Road. Just go and test drive it
- 55:30and bring it back in 10 days.
- 55:37>> Oh, dear me. Yes.
- 55:39>> Can I borrow for the weekend, please?
- 55:41>> Yes. Yes. Very good. Oh, that's great,
- 55:45um, Mark, that you got back safely. And
- 55:47like I said, uh, congratulations number
- 55:5066.
- 55:51>> And, um, yeah,
- 55:54>> I did send you an email. I've got you
- 55:56the cons cable stuff still. I've got the
- 55:58spare wheel.
- 55:59>> Oh, sorry. No, you sent me sent me a
- 56:01text and I I was just super busy and I
- 56:03just didn't get round to it.
- 56:04>> It's all right. So, it's all right if I
- 56:05give you that back on Sunday. Are you
- 56:06there on Sunday?
- 56:07>> Uh, I'll probably be there. So, bring it
- 56:10with you and
- 56:11>> if I'll grab it off you need I need it
- 56:13in a few weeks
- 56:16>> if that's the case. Yeah. and you can
- 56:17back into your office.
- 56:19>> Can I
- 56:20>> um
- 56:20>> Hello.
- 56:21>> Yes, Stefan.
- 56:23>> Yeah, look, I've got a totally different
- 56:25question and then I'll leave alone. Um
- 56:29I've got a wall charger which I got with
- 56:32my first Tesla. I now got a Model Y.
- 56:35Anyway, my wife's probably getting an MG
- 56:39S5 electric car, which I think also has
- 56:44the right charging connector. Is it
- 56:47possible with this small charger that
- 56:49I've got to charge that car?
- 56:53>> It depends. So,
- 56:56has it got You got to look at the
- 56:59instructions for the charger. If it's
- 57:01the
- 57:03if it's the very oldest one, which it
- 57:05won't be if it's
- 57:07>> No, my I got my I got my wall charger in
- 57:112019.
- 57:13>> I think it's in in the danger period.
- 57:15So, the correct answer will be you
- 57:18probably won't be able to know until you
- 57:20try it
- 57:22>> if it's compatible. if you've still got
- 57:24the instruction manual for it. Or you
- 57:26can just look up
- 57:28take a photo of the side panel which has
- 57:32got the
- 57:34um product code, the model code. Yeah.
- 57:38And Google the instructions for it. Some
- 57:41of them had like a rotary switch or No,
- 57:44no. Yeah, they had a rotary switch to
- 57:46set the current limit and then they had
- 57:49a couple of um dip switches to set the
- 57:53mode and on one
- 57:57uh span of them, so for a certain number
- 57:59of months or a year or whatever, that
- 58:02particular model had the option of
- 58:04having Tesla only or all EVs as a manual
- 58:08setting.
- 58:10>> Well, well, this one, this one has got
- 58:12nothing. Absolutely nothing.
- 58:13>> No, no, no. It's inside. No, no, no.
- 58:14It's inside. You won't see it on the
- 58:16outside. This is inside
- 58:18>> where the actual physical connection,
- 58:20electrical connections are made to the
- 58:22to the circuit board. There there will
- 58:25be a a rotary switch and there may or
- 58:28may not be a couple of dip switches, a
- 58:30little little mini switches. M
- 58:33>> um so do look at the model number for it
- 58:37and Google the instructions if you don't
- 58:40still have them and just check to see
- 58:42whether there's the option for that to
- 58:44charge non-Tesla EVs because Tesla uses
- 58:49a different communications protocol than
- 58:52normal cars when it comes to talking to
- 58:54their own wall connectors.
- 58:58Um, so the very oldest ones were
- 59:01compatible with everything. There was a
- 59:03middle range version that was not
- 59:05compatible with non-Teslas and then that
- 59:08compatibility returned as a selectable
- 59:11option. And the very modern ones now
- 59:13that you can buy for about $800.
- 59:16Uh, there's a software option which you
- 59:20set under a web page that can absolutely
- 59:23open it to all EVs. So Stefan, the the
- 59:26the correct answer is we don't know, but
- 59:29you should be able to find out by
- 59:31looking at the um the model name or
- 59:34model number and Google the
- 59:36instructions. And then it's if in if it
- 59:39does come to pass that it can be done,
- 59:41you've just got to um take the the front
- 59:45fascia off, which is there's a Torx um
- 59:50screw at the bottom of that main silver
- 59:53sort of plate that covers up the LEDs.
- 59:57At the very bottom, there's a single
- 59:58screw that holds that in place. You can
- 1:00:02then lift it off and then you'll find
- 1:00:04about
- 1:00:05a dozen screws underneath that that hold
- 1:00:09the the main physical ceiling sort of
- 1:00:12lid which then gets you access to the uh
- 1:00:15switches inside.
- 1:00:17>> Okay. All right. I shall It's not a big
- 1:00:20deal because the car comes with its own
- 1:00:23charger which you can just plug into the
- 1:00:25wall anywhere.
- 1:00:26>> Yeah. Do do you have singlephase or
- 1:00:28three-phase power?
- 1:00:29>> No, single phase. Yeah. See, that would
- 1:00:32work perfectly then for your wife's car
- 1:00:33because that will have a singlephase
- 1:00:35charger, which means you you'd be on 32
- 1:00:38amps single phase, which is
- 1:00:40>> that's what my wall charger is.
- 1:00:43>> Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Now, if it comes to
- 1:00:45pass that that that wall charger that
- 1:00:49you've got is not compatible,
- 1:00:52then a good value proposition is to get
- 1:00:55Tesla's new one and that will charge
- 1:00:58both cars seamlessly.
- 1:01:01Okay. All right.
- 1:01:02>> Um otherwise, you've got to fuff around.
- 1:01:04I mean, look, if your wife doesn't drive
- 1:01:05a car very much, you could just use the
- 1:01:0810 or 15 amp
- 1:01:10um
- 1:01:12wall connector or something like that
- 1:01:14that comes with the car, it'll just take
- 1:01:16a lot longer to charge. But if she
- 1:01:18doesn't use it very much compared to say
- 1:01:20your main car, then that's probably a
- 1:01:22viable solution, too.
- 1:01:24>> Okay. All right. Thank you very much.
- 1:01:26>> Well, good luck with that. All the best
- 1:01:28with it. Um, all righty. Any other
- 1:01:30questions or comments?
- 1:01:34>> I got an a question. I've just noticed
- 1:01:37on my Tesla
- 1:01:40uh door trim where I normally just put
- 1:01:42my arm up and hold the steering wheel
- 1:01:44couple of fingers while it's on SSD,
- 1:01:47there's a a big dent.
- 1:01:49>> Yep.
- 1:01:49>> Where my elbow sits on the door. So
- 1:01:52Terry, you you must have learned the
- 1:01:54same lesson from your father as I
- 1:01:56learned from mine, which is the best way
- 1:01:59to keep your car driving straight is to
- 1:02:01hold Yeah.
- 1:02:02>> uh your right hand onto the steering
- 1:02:04wheel and just lean your elbow on the
- 1:02:06side and then that way when you turn
- 1:02:08your head, if you're manually driving,
- 1:02:10you don't Yeah. the car doesn't follow
- 1:02:12the direction of your head. So my
- 1:02:17all my cars as soon as I drive a single
- 1:02:20lap within 2 or 3 days there's a full-on
- 1:02:23dent there on the on the what? It's just
- 1:02:25what happens Terry.
- 1:02:27>> I'm not happy I'm taking that in. I want
- 1:02:28it fixed. So they shouldn't dent surely.
- 1:02:32It's not that much pressure.
- 1:02:35>> I'm questioning the Tesla anyhow. So
- 1:02:38>> yeah, good luck with that. Um I've seen
- 1:02:40it. It's very common. Yeah. And I mean,
- 1:02:42look, yeah, all the all the best for for
- 1:02:45seeing what happens. I don't know what
- 1:02:47they can do about it to be perfectly
- 1:02:49honest because they're all built, all
- 1:02:50those cars are built the same and
- 1:02:52they've done that dent.
- 1:02:54>> My
- 1:02:56my brand new Y L hasn't got the dent
- 1:02:58much because actually when you're
- 1:03:00driving on FSD,
- 1:03:02proper FSD, which I haven't yet, um
- 1:03:06there is no dent because you don't have
- 1:03:08to hold your hand that way anymore. You
- 1:03:09don't have to hold the steering wheel
- 1:03:10for that matter. But on autopilot you
- 1:03:13do. Um, and yeah, all my cars, my
- 1:03:17classic Model Y did it. My
- 1:03:21uh Model X, can't remember, but the
- 1:03:24wires I've had have all done it. And my
- 1:03:27my brand new YL is developing one
- 1:03:30because I haven't got FSD yet. So, I do
- 1:03:32hold my hand in that position all the
- 1:03:35time.
- 1:03:36>> When I told the service division, they
- 1:03:37were bamboozled. They said, "Let's bring
- 1:03:39it in. We want to have a look." So, you
- 1:03:42never know.
- 1:03:42>> Oh, tell him tell him that Harold said
- 1:03:45he got it within three days of of his
- 1:03:47first lap in in each of those cars.
- 1:03:50>> Shouldn't be there.
- 1:03:53>> Yeah. But only thing, Terry, is if they
- 1:03:55replace if they replace the trim, I bet
- 1:03:59everything that I've own that it'll come
- 1:04:01right back because it's just what
- 1:04:03happens. It's
- 1:04:06>> Yeah.
- 1:04:07>> Oh, that's the bad.
- 1:04:09>> Good to see. Yeah. Did someone notice it
- 1:04:11ahead of me off it? No, it's natural.
- 1:04:14>> Yeah, I don't I didn't think I ever
- 1:04:15bothered to take a photo of it, but No,
- 1:04:16no, seriously. Um, on my on my blue
- 1:04:20juniper, I got it after day three. Not
- 1:04:24even it wasn't even maybe it was the
- 1:04:25second day on my lap. I think I was I
- 1:04:28don't know on the way to broom and I
- 1:04:29noticed it. It It forms very quickly.
- 1:04:32>> Yeah, but my out of didn't do it. Didn't
- 1:04:35happen. And I had it for two years.
- 1:04:39Yeah, I've had it on the performance Y.
- 1:04:41I've had it on the standard range Y that
- 1:04:45um that uh James Mland's got and Pete
- 1:04:49Petroski
- 1:04:51>> I think still has. Uh I got that on my
- 1:04:53lap of that as well. I because my elbow
- 1:04:56does not move from that one position.
- 1:04:58It's always exactly the same position.
- 1:05:00>> So we're the only two that's happened to
- 1:05:01you. No one else.
- 1:05:02>> We're the two we're the we're the two
- 1:05:03idiots that listened to our fathers and
- 1:05:05took their advice.
- 1:05:07Oh god.
- 1:05:09>> Everyone else drives two and two and 10,
- 1:05:11don't they? That's what that's how they
- 1:05:13drive.
- 1:05:14>> We just go We just go 230 with on the on
- 1:05:17the el. That's it. You know,
- 1:05:19>> I've I've got I've got my dents on top
- 1:05:21of my thighs because that's where I had
- 1:05:24my
- 1:05:25>> the back of my hands.
- 1:05:27>> Yeah. Right. Yeah. No,
- 1:05:29>> but interestingly, I I developed that
- 1:05:31with FSD supervised.
- 1:05:33>> Yeah. Now that I'm driving autopilot
- 1:05:36again, I'm still doing it. Still holding
- 1:05:39the steering wheel the same way
- 1:05:42>> because I with my autopilot, I do what
- 1:05:45Pete did. But then if I take it out
- 1:05:47autopilot, I go back to the same as you
- 1:05:49guys
- 1:05:53>> don't have because I don't have it all
- 1:05:55the time.
- 1:05:55>> It's not what I wanted to hear, but I'm
- 1:05:57going to go and fight for fight.
- 1:06:00>> That's right. Um,
- 1:06:03>> big big shout out to the Tesla service
- 1:06:05guys. Don't listen to Terry. He's just
- 1:06:07trying to hoodwink you.
- 1:06:09>> We It's It's a known issue.
- 1:06:12>> Take a six-pack or something and then
- 1:06:14have a chat to them. You know,
- 1:06:15>> I'm even taking a bottle of CC. That's
- 1:06:17fine. I can't see.
- 1:06:18>> The only thing The only thing, Terry, is
- 1:06:20like I said, even if they for whatever
- 1:06:22reason change your trim, I'll bet London
- 1:06:24to a brick it'll come right back if you
- 1:06:26do the same maneuver. It'll It's just
- 1:06:29the way it's made. Yeah, they like to
- 1:06:32see me complain any. I said, give them
- 1:06:33something to do.
- 1:06:35>> Well, I can ask you how your um new
- 1:06:37screen's going if it's just as good as
- 1:06:40it was.
- 1:06:40>> After a while, you just see it a lot
- 1:06:42clearer. You don't worry about the size
- 1:06:45too much, but it's the clarity of
- 1:06:47>> Yeah, that's true.
- 1:06:49>> It's a lovely screen.
- 1:06:50>> I reckon it's worth it. Yeah,
- 1:06:52>> it is. It is.
- 1:06:55>> They'll probably tell they'll probably
- 1:06:56tell you it's a safety feature. It
- 1:06:58prevents your elbow sliding away and
- 1:07:00stops you losing control.
- 1:07:04>> They do it on purpose. Yeah,
- 1:07:06>> exactly.
- 1:07:07>> I put um Someone's got a hand up, but I
- 1:07:09put a post in for the um for a uh my new
- 1:07:11idea of a um Tesla accessory.
- 1:07:14>> Uh we're going to go straight to John in
- 1:07:16two seconds. I'm just going to uh click
- 1:07:18on this, which why is that not working?
- 1:07:21It is coming up. There it is.
- 1:07:24Um,
- 1:07:28Tesla elbow pad.
- 1:07:34>> That's dents in the door armrest because
- 1:07:37your elbows have feelings and so does
- 1:07:39your Tesla.
- 1:07:40>> Paint pending.
- 1:07:44>> Interesting.
- 1:07:45>> Very good. Very good.
- 1:07:48Excellent. All righty. Um John, you got
- 1:07:52your hand up.
- 1:07:54>> Yeah. Um previous um episodes we've
- 1:07:58we've discussed um the merit of having
- 1:08:01um a grill on the front um for air
- 1:08:05intake, but I wanted to also well I
- 1:08:09wanted to discuss and just see what the
- 1:08:11thoughts are on some other accessories
- 1:08:14related to air intake. I've got um well,
- 1:08:18namely the first one is um like the air
- 1:08:20intake um under the under the hood which
- 1:08:24is for the air conditioning.
- 1:08:26>> I can put a maybe an image in the chat.
- 1:08:31>> No. Oh yeah. Yeah. Put in the chat.
- 1:08:32Yeah. Yeah. Um I've never used one.
- 1:08:35Don't know if anyone else has. It's
- 1:08:37>> I have.
- 1:08:39>> Yep. Yep. I have.
- 1:08:40>> Cool. And I have
- 1:08:42>> Have Mark and Have Mark and Mike and
- 1:08:45Steve found it useful or was it just
- 1:08:47>> Yes, mine was actually full of
- 1:08:50butterflies um going around the lap.
- 1:08:52Absolutely full of them. And those would
- 1:08:54have all been remember you said you
- 1:08:56filled up near your fan one time by all
- 1:08:58the stuff going in that bottom intake
- 1:09:00and getting shoved through.
- 1:09:01>> No, no, that's
- 1:09:02>> No, no, no, Mark. No, no. It means the
- 1:09:04um air con intake which is at the top
- 1:09:06part of it's at the back part of your
- 1:09:07bonnet. So if you lift your bonnet back
- 1:09:10Yeah. I when I bought that I bought one
- 1:09:12of those as well.
- 1:09:13>> Yes. But did you find any detritus? Have
- 1:09:16you found anything?
- 1:09:17>> I haven't I haven't really found much on
- 1:09:18that one at all now. In all fairness.
- 1:09:21>> Yeah.
- 1:09:21>> It wasn't that one either.
- 1:09:29>> Yeah. I'm just saying that it didn't
- 1:09:30cost much. Um but I haven't found it
- 1:09:34anything caught on it either. So
- 1:09:37>> dollar each way on that one.
- 1:09:39>> Yeah. Yeah, mine. I bought the bottom
- 1:09:41grill and the bottom grill, but it was
- 1:09:43only a matter of about 10 bucks extra
- 1:09:45and you got that thrown in with it. So,
- 1:09:46I got the two together.
- 1:09:48So John, it sounds like the consensus is
- 1:09:53>> it's nowhere near as useful, actually as
- 1:09:56essential as the bottom one, as the main
- 1:09:59intake, which is
- 1:10:00>> I I actually think every I think Tesla
- 1:10:02should just have them as a as an
- 1:10:04accessory full stop because
- 1:10:08>> that the these our cars, the S, sorry,
- 1:10:11the three and the Y are basically filter
- 1:10:14feeders and all the air that goes goes
- 1:10:18through any object that goes along with
- 1:10:20it just gets filtered by the radiator
- 1:10:22and never leaves. It never goes. It
- 1:10:24stays there until it's manually removed.
- 1:10:27>> And
- 1:10:28>> yeah, it's essential. But but the air
- 1:10:30con one at the top at the back of the of
- 1:10:33the um of the bonnet much less
- 1:10:36essential.
- 1:10:37>> Can you see the image I've put up?
- 1:10:39>> Um
- 1:10:41>> just for
- 1:10:41>> Yes. So
- 1:10:42>> everybody can see it.
- 1:10:44>> Just trying. Yep. The top one does
- 1:10:46depend on what vehicle you've got and
- 1:10:49how frequently you park under trees and
- 1:10:52such.
- 1:10:53>> Yeah, that's what I've got.
- 1:10:56>> And and the second image I've put up is
- 1:10:59um what they call a um front trunk cowl
- 1:11:03water seal and hood. So it looks like
- 1:11:06it's like a it bridges the gap between
- 1:11:10like there's a opening
- 1:11:12um y
- 1:11:14>> in between the on the left and the right
- 1:11:16probably for the airflow to come in.
- 1:11:20>> Yep.
- 1:11:23Um,
- 1:11:23>> now I just wonder whether that would
- 1:11:25actually be a disadvantage and whether
- 1:11:26it actually would restrict or even one
- 1:11:29or both of them would restrict the air
- 1:11:31flow,
- 1:11:33>> but it's primary objective is to prevent
- 1:11:36leaves and water coming in, but or would
- 1:11:38that be? Look, there's no doubt that the
- 1:11:40bottom one the the bottom the main
- 1:11:42intake
- 1:11:44technic well not technically actually
- 1:11:45does restrict the air flow by maybe I
- 1:11:48don't know 5% maybe maybe a little bit
- 1:11:51more but it's vastly preferable to have
- 1:11:54a permanent 5% odd restriction on the
- 1:11:58front air flow then a cumulative up to
- 1:12:0190% restriction over time depending on
- 1:12:04circumstance.
- 1:12:06Um, look, those other two accessories
- 1:12:09I'd be much more um,
- 1:12:13look, you can give it a crack. I don't
- 1:12:15even know if you'll know there's going
- 1:12:16to be much of a difference to be honest
- 1:12:18because the air con system works in in
- 1:12:20auto mode most of the time. So, you
- 1:12:24probably hardly notice whether it's
- 1:12:25making it job harder or easier or look,
- 1:12:29no one I've never in and the furthest
- 1:12:32I've driven in a car except for the
- 1:12:34Model X was the my performance Model Y
- 1:12:37and that's 194,000 KS and I've never
- 1:12:40seen any leaves or anything insects,
- 1:12:43nothing at that top aircon intake. No,
- 1:12:48>> we certainly get a lot of um insects
- 1:12:49that well not insects um just sort of
- 1:12:51debris from trees like blossom and
- 1:12:54little little bits and twigs and they
- 1:12:58always seem to catch
- 1:12:59>> um you know they probably land on the
- 1:13:01windscreen and then and then sort of
- 1:13:03slide down and then sort of catch in
- 1:13:04that sort of air intake sort of zone um
- 1:13:08probably before it gets into the bonnet.
- 1:13:10So I guess if could they just make their
- 1:13:13way further towards the in them,
- 1:13:18>> if that makes sense.
- 1:13:20The only thing when you're driving, you
- 1:13:21know, it's going to go up the windscreen
- 1:13:22and over, but when you're parked, they
- 1:13:25can clip there where the the wipers are,
- 1:13:27and then depending on the wind, they'll
- 1:13:28blow in. Now, in mine, I found quite a
- 1:13:32bit of pieces of bark and leaves down in
- 1:13:35that air intake down the bottom of the
- 1:13:37elbow
- 1:13:38>> down here.
- 1:13:39>> And as Harold said, the reality is it's
- 1:13:41going to make stuff all difference. It's
- 1:13:42just a tidiness thing if you're anally
- 1:13:45retentive like that. And I just put
- 1:13:48actually some stainless steel fly screen
- 1:13:50over mine and just bent it to shape. And
- 1:13:53that was that. And I have found a few
- 1:13:55leaves stuck in the top of it
- 1:13:57occasionally.
- 1:13:59So it's not a big deal. It depends how,
- 1:14:02as I say, keen you are to keep it clean.
- 1:14:05>> I've had a lot of leaves in that area.
- 1:14:08But um whether that um screen would
- 1:14:12actually stop them going well it will
- 1:14:14stop them going in but whether they'd
- 1:14:15fall in without it I doubt it.
- 1:14:19>> Yeah mine did lot there was quite a lot.
- 1:14:21There was a handful and some bark if
- 1:14:23that makes sense. A fistful.
- 1:14:25>> But were they going inside or were they
- 1:14:27just sat on top?
- 1:14:28>> No no they were in in down the tube. So,
- 1:14:30you know, if you take your So, I've got
- 1:14:32a 22 Model 3, so it's a slightly
- 1:14:35different shape, but if you if you take
- 1:14:38that piece at the top off,
- 1:14:41>> not the whole trunk plastic, but just
- 1:14:43that top piece.
- 1:14:44>> Yeah.
- 1:14:44>> Then in that downward spout that leads
- 1:14:48into the air intake for the air con.
- 1:14:51>> Yeah.
- 1:14:52>> Um, yeah, there was all leaves and stuff
- 1:14:54in the bottom.
- 1:14:55>> Yeah. All right. In that case, it sounds
- 1:14:56like it is worthwhile getting one of
- 1:14:58those.
- 1:14:58>> It depends on where you park. Yeah.
- 1:15:00>> Keep parking under trees and stuff
- 1:15:01despite telling them not to.
- 1:15:03>> Yeah. If you're doing something if
- 1:15:04you're doing something like a lap, you
- 1:15:05haven't got the options sometimes.
- 1:15:07>> Yes.
- 1:15:09>> But it's not, as Harold said, it's not
- 1:15:11it's not going to there won't be enough
- 1:15:13in there to detract from your flow. So,
- 1:15:16it's just whether you like to do it or
- 1:15:18not.
- 1:15:20>> Cool. Um, I'm not sure.
- 1:15:24>> No worries, John. Okay. Go Trev.
- 1:15:28Just a couple of
- 1:15:32>> Oh,
- 1:15:34>> you just went Y.
- 1:15:36>> Must have double tapped it. Um, just a
- 1:15:39couple comments. I first one is a bit of
- 1:15:41a brag, I suppose. Um, changed the tires
- 1:15:44today. Got 98,000 out of them. Probably
- 1:15:47I was going to have a crack at 100 just
- 1:15:49to say that I did it, but unfortunately
- 1:15:51had some bad news as well, which cut me
- 1:15:53short. Um, we learned the hard way over
- 1:15:56the weekend through the storm that the
- 1:15:58Tesla has a active bonnet and when my
- 1:16:02misses ran into a tree that just dropped
- 1:16:03on the road in front of her, it shot the
- 1:16:06bonnet up into the air and uh thinking
- 1:16:08that it was saving a pedestrian. So,
- 1:16:11yes, we've got to go up to Perth now to
- 1:16:13get that reset, but I was thinking that
- 1:16:14must happen a bit when people hit
- 1:16:15kangaroos. Is that would that be a
- 1:16:18pretty fair assumption?
- 1:16:20>> Don't know, Trev. I firstly hoped the MS
- 1:16:22was all right and no doubt she was she's
- 1:16:24in the safest car on earth so
- 1:16:26>> scared the [ __ ] out of her but no
- 1:16:28>> yeah no doubt
- 1:16:30>> um so when I hit a cow that would have
- 1:16:32been a classic time for the bonnet
- 1:16:35doodad to go off but the classic Y
- 1:16:37performance didn't have those
- 1:16:41bonnet um pyotanics so
- 1:16:45>> um don't know yet uh in fact actually on
- 1:16:49that image that was shown in there. It's
- 1:16:52It's actually right there. You can see
- 1:16:54it right there.
- 1:16:57>> So, um yeah. Um do definitely report
- 1:17:01back once you find out how much that
- 1:17:03cost.
- 1:17:05>> Yeah.
- 1:17:10>> Couple photos up in the chat.
- 1:17:15>> Oh, yeah. Sorry. You you got crappy
- 1:17:18internet there, uh Trev. Um, I've got
- 1:17:20videos, but it won't let me put it in
- 1:17:21the chat. But, uh, yeah, if you want to
- 1:17:23have a look.
- 1:17:24>> Uh, yeah, I haven't seen it. Haven't
- 1:17:27seen it yet. It might still be
- 1:17:28propagating.
- 1:17:29>> Okay.
- 1:17:30>> But, uh, once it comes through,
- 1:17:33um, I think this is
- 1:17:37whose side who's who put up the model Y?
- 1:17:41Oh, no, that would be James. No,
- 1:17:44who put up this image? That was just as
- 1:17:46an aside to the cover.
- 1:17:49Yes,
- 1:17:50>> James.
- 1:17:51>> James,
- 1:17:52>> that's why you need that filter
- 1:17:56>> because every one of those butterflies
- 1:17:58would have just been on the just
- 1:17:59covering your your um air con uh sorry,
- 1:18:02your um main radiator
- 1:18:04and it's just a matter of time before it
- 1:18:06gets fully clogged, especially
- 1:18:08butterflies cuz they're almost like the
- 1:18:09perfect um shade cover for your uh
- 1:18:12intake. Um, so
- 1:18:17Trev. Oh, hang on. No, we do. Oh, there
- 1:18:20we go. Uh,
- 1:18:24that photo and then we're going to go
- 1:18:26that photo.
- 1:18:28Oh jeez, that was a pretty minor impact.
- 1:18:31Bloody hell,
- 1:18:33that's a bummer. So, um,
- 1:18:36so yeah, you can see basically what it
- 1:18:38does is it it sort of latches apart and
- 1:18:40pops up,
- 1:18:42>> but jeez, there's not much front damage.
- 1:18:44It's a little bit there, I guess.
- 1:18:46>> It's hard to see. Yeah. On the other
- 1:18:48side, it's actually punctured through
- 1:18:49the bonnet, uh, through the bumper and
- 1:18:51it's crushed all the foam behind it. Um,
- 1:18:54maybe broken a couple of screws for the
- 1:18:56radiator.
- 1:18:57>> Yeah. Right.
- 1:18:58>> So, I had
- 1:18:59>> So, that's the tree. So, I had to race
- 1:19:01back down there um with a chainsaw and
- 1:19:04by the time I got down there, someone
- 1:19:06else had hit it. Um so, yeah, we got it
- 1:19:09off the road. But yeah, she's um Oh,
- 1:19:12I've got the videos. And there was
- 1:19:14virtually no warning. The emergency
- 1:19:15braking went off immediately, but there
- 1:19:18was debris all across the road from
- 1:19:19where it exploded when it hit the road,
- 1:19:21so she couldn't really avoid it.
- 1:19:23>> No.
- 1:19:25No. Trees are buggers. Uh and you can
- 1:19:27see that that tree was an old one. Yeah.
- 1:19:30And she she'd gone through there uh 11
- 1:19:33minutes earlier and there was nothing on
- 1:19:34the road and she'd picked something up
- 1:19:35from the shops, turned around and hit
- 1:19:37it.
- 1:19:38>> Bloody hell. Yep. Yep. Skinny road, too.
- 1:19:42Well, you know, not not not a wide um
- 1:19:46urge
- 1:19:48shoulder.
- 1:19:50That's a bummer. So, yeah. So, you're up
- 1:19:52for those two um pyrochnic doodads. So,
- 1:19:55that they're basically miniature
- 1:19:56airbags. They got the same sort of um
- 1:19:59thingy inside that pops them up to
- 1:20:02basically, as you can see on the image,
- 1:20:03it pops the bonnet up so that when a
- 1:20:06pedestrian hits their legs and then
- 1:20:07slaps their their their torso and head,
- 1:20:11it's much more um spongy because
- 1:20:14>> you're riding on the you're riding on
- 1:20:16the suspension rather than sitting on
- 1:20:18hinges.
- 1:20:19>> Yeah. Yep. Yep. So, so basically your
- 1:20:22head will sort of smack into the metal
- 1:20:24work and dent it, but it'll have room to
- 1:20:27give. It's got that, you know, a few
- 1:20:29extra inches of give
- 1:20:32>> about one in of it by hand.
- 1:20:34>> Yeah. Yeah. And I believe these things
- 1:20:37you just reset manually. You can just
- 1:20:38like
- 1:20:39>> I think there might be like little knobs
- 1:20:42that it just resets back in. I think
- 1:20:44>> the the detonators can't um won't
- 1:20:47release back down. So, I think they need
- 1:20:49to be replaced. And then yes,
- 1:20:50>> the hinges need to be removed off the
- 1:20:52bonnet because
- 1:20:54>> um there's actually fingers that go
- 1:20:56through a little slot and they normally
- 1:20:58stay inside the slot, but once the
- 1:20:59detonators go on, it forces them out.
- 1:21:02>> Yes. So they can't reset back. Yeah.
- 1:21:04>> Now you take the hinge off, push it back
- 1:21:06through the fingers and then bolt it
- 1:21:07back down again.
- 1:21:08>> Yep. Yep. Yep.
- 1:21:11>> But the hinge stayed connected at the
- 1:21:13front. The the latch stayed connected at
- 1:21:15the front. So um it's still been
- 1:21:17drivable. So I ran it down. I thought I
- 1:21:19was going to get 2,000 extra KS on the
- 1:21:21tires to say so, but decided I'm going
- 1:21:23to change the tires just in case the
- 1:21:25insurance gets a whiff that there's a
- 1:21:26little bit of a scuff on the inside.
- 1:21:28>> So, is the bonnet okay? Bonnet was okay.
- 1:21:31>> I drove it today. I got it up to 100ks.
- 1:21:33Just made sure everything stays together
- 1:21:35and um just because um I got to take it
- 1:21:39up to Bibra Lake from Bumbrey to get it
- 1:21:41fixed. So, I was looking at whether I
- 1:21:44towed it or drove it. And um the manual
- 1:21:46said that um a lot of cars can be driven
- 1:21:49to the nearest service center.
- 1:21:51>> Yeah.
- 1:21:52>> As long as um there's no other injuries
- 1:21:54to the car. So,
- 1:21:55>> yeah. Right. Wow. That's um that's
- 1:21:58pretty impressive
- 1:22:00>> and pretty funky looking. People be
- 1:22:01going, "What's wrong with that electric
- 1:22:02car?"
- 1:22:03>> Can't even keep his bonnet down.
- 1:22:04>> Coming out of the tire shop today,
- 1:22:06everyone was like, "Do I tell that guy
- 1:22:07that his bonnets's up or not?"
- 1:22:10>> You go, "No, mate. It's all good.
- 1:22:11dislodged.
- 1:22:14>> What are you talking about?
- 1:22:15>> If this happens in the middle of
- 1:22:17nowhere, you know, miles from anywhere,
- 1:22:19can you manually remove the detonators
- 1:22:22and put the bonnet back down to safely
- 1:22:24get back or is that
- 1:22:25>> I don't think you could, J. Well, you
- 1:22:28could probably do some MacGyver work on
- 1:22:29it if you had to, but um the way it
- 1:22:32drove today going to and from the tire
- 1:22:34shop, I wouldn't be concerned if I had
- 1:22:36to drive it for four or 500ks to get it
- 1:22:38to somewhere else.
- 1:22:40It is very stable. I've tried pushing
- 1:22:42and pulling on it before I drove it. Um,
- 1:22:45and yeah, I think as long as the front
- 1:22:46didn't um, you know, dislodge that latch
- 1:22:50assembly, then I think you'd be fine to
- 1:22:51drive it as it is.
- 1:22:54>> Yeah. And if you had like a angle
- 1:22:56grinder or something, a battery powered
- 1:22:58one, you could probably just cut the the
- 1:23:00>> You could probably bend it. If you had
- 1:23:02to that that longer finger, if you bent
- 1:23:04that straight down, it would go past.
- 1:23:07>> Yeah. You'd have to bend it out. So, it
- 1:23:09then goes under here, doesn't it? Goes
- 1:23:11>> That's what it wants to do. And then
- 1:23:12there the um the bracket that's broken
- 1:23:15on the right hand side. They're just
- 1:23:16aluminium rivets,
- 1:23:17>> but pretty decent size ones cuz I found
- 1:23:19them in the frunk.
- 1:23:21>> Yeah. Right. Oh, I gotcha. So, that's
- 1:23:24actually held that's retained by a rivet
- 1:23:26that is frangible. Yeah.
- 1:23:27>> Yeah. About six mil or seven mil rivets,
- 1:23:30aluminium rivets, and they've just
- 1:23:31sheared off.
- 1:23:32>> Yep. Yep. Yep. Done their job.
- 1:23:34>> Yeah. You can just see just next to that
- 1:23:36long finger, there's a little bit of
- 1:23:37chrome, which is the detonator that shot
- 1:23:40that
- 1:23:42>> that fires up and breaks the hinge. It
- 1:23:44took the paint off where it hit.
- 1:23:46>> Yep. Yep. Wow. I mean, the good thing I
- 1:23:49mean, not Well, it's it's still a shame
- 1:23:52that you had damage at all, but what a
- 1:23:54great demonstration of what it does
- 1:23:56without actually hurting anyone.
- 1:23:57>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:24:00>> Oh, that's a very good image. That's
- 1:24:01very cool.
- 1:24:04All righty. Uh Paul, you got your hand
- 1:24:07up. And then and then we're going to
- 1:24:08welcome someone new to the H.
- 1:24:12>> That sounds good. Uh
- 1:24:14>> Paul,
- 1:24:15>> yeah, I was going to say I felt like
- 1:24:16Russell last week not being here and
- 1:24:18then watching it the next day as hearing
- 1:24:21hearing my name in
- 1:24:22>> Did you get frustrated? Did you go
- 1:24:24>> There was a couple of things where I was
- 1:24:26like, "Oh, no, no, no. That's not
- 1:24:27right." But anyway, it was quite funny.
- 1:24:29I was thinking, "Oh, I'm I'm I'm
- 1:24:31Russell. That's every that's that's
- 1:24:33Russell's every Thursday morning is
- 1:24:35exactly you idiot. You said this and you
- 1:24:37said you should have said that and
- 1:24:39whatever.
- 1:24:40>> But I was going to say Starling's
- 1:24:41brilliant. We had the storms and [ __ ]
- 1:24:43and it worked really well. So, you know,
- 1:24:46the brick didn't fly off the roof or any
- 1:24:48of that sort of [ __ ] So, it was really
- 1:24:50good. I was pretty impressed. I meant I
- 1:24:53meant to ring my kid at my mother's
- 1:24:55house and see if the Starlink that was
- 1:24:56just sitting on it tripod on the pagola
- 1:24:59moved. You know, he didn't he didn't
- 1:25:01ring me to say the internet's not
- 1:25:02working very well. And it's like, yeah,
- 1:25:04maybe you should turn the Starink
- 1:25:05upright and it might work better.
- 1:25:08>> Yeah, exactly. Oh, and I was going to
- 1:25:10bring up um uh with Comse with the
- 1:25:14SpaceX IPO coming up. I got an email
- 1:25:17saying that they're going to be the guys
- 1:25:19running the IPO for Australia. Oh,
- 1:25:22sorry. Yeah, I thought you meant I
- 1:25:25thought you meant an email today.
- 1:25:27>> Yeah. Yeah. No, no, no. Change sort of
- 1:25:29stuff. So, um, so have international.
- 1:25:33>> Sounds like comse is the lead manager,
- 1:25:36but there's another manager or other
- 1:25:39>> Yeah.
- 1:25:39>> Um, but you have to have the
- 1:25:41international account, so you got to
- 1:25:43fill out forms and stuff. It doesn't
- 1:25:45take too long, but if you're going to do
- 1:25:46it, it's probably going to be next week
- 1:25:48anyway. Oh yeah.
- 1:25:49>> So what I So what I found out yesterday
- 1:25:52was it actually takes a surprisingly
- 1:25:54short amount of time to get a
- 1:25:57international comse account
- 1:25:59>> because I've got no comse account
- 1:26:01whatsoever. Um
- 1:26:04when you go on their website it sort of
- 1:26:06says we'll start from your phone and um
- 1:26:10that process was surprisingly painless.
- 1:26:13So you you just download this is for
- 1:26:15anyone who's interested in general or in
- 1:26:18particular for SpaceX or anything else.
- 1:26:20I mean as a matter of fact Anthropic is
- 1:26:22has released their confidential sorry
- 1:26:25submitted their confidential S1 form
- 1:26:28which is some American IPO form uh to
- 1:26:32the securities commission
- 1:26:35in the last 24 hours I think. Um, so the
- 1:26:39way you do it if you're interested in
- 1:26:41getting a comse account is you just
- 1:26:43download the first thing you do is
- 1:26:46download the comse sorry the com bank
- 1:26:50app
- 1:26:52and then you register if you haven't got
- 1:26:54a comwalth bank account you register and
- 1:26:56get a whatever that number reference
- 1:26:58number is then you can get the comse sec
- 1:27:02app and you can log in the com comse app
- 1:27:07with your Commonwealth Bank username and
- 1:27:11password. And then you say you want to
- 1:27:14set up a share trading account. And
- 1:27:16that's pretty easy. You either use your
- 1:27:18passport or your driver's license. You
- 1:27:21enter in all the details from your
- 1:27:22mobile phone app and it'll actually get
- 1:27:25you to take a selfie using the phone to
- 1:27:28verify that the image is you. Um,
- 1:27:33that worked really well. Then you got to
- 1:27:35because you want an then you got to
- 1:27:37apply for an international trading
- 1:27:38account and for that you need to do a
- 1:27:41tax declaration
- 1:27:43mainly for America I think and that one
- 1:27:46was one I had a little bit of trouble
- 1:27:47with whereby it had all this then it
- 1:27:50said do you agree and by basically
- 1:27:53pressing the button which is in a web
- 1:27:55page inside your phone cuz it jumps out
- 1:27:58of the app um press the button the
- 1:28:01screen just went white like just the
- 1:28:04plain screen and then I kind of tapped
- 1:28:06it again and then that same page came
- 1:28:08back with the same button to press to
- 1:28:11confirm you agree and I press it again.
- 1:28:14Screen went blank and then it rinsed and
- 1:28:17repeated several times and then I kind
- 1:28:19of went oh this isn't working. I kind of
- 1:28:21got out of that. I thought I'll try on
- 1:28:23my PC instead. And then the PC said
- 1:28:26sorry we can't verify you using this
- 1:28:28means or some something like that. And
- 1:28:31then I went back to my phone and it said
- 1:28:33the same thing. And then I went, "Oh,
- 1:28:35bloody hell." Um, so I rang the helpline
- 1:28:38and it said, "Oh, we have um greater
- 1:28:41than usual uh inquiries at the moment.
- 1:28:44Um, this phone call will take 30
- 1:28:46minutes." So then I went for a drive uh
- 1:28:51somewhere north. I forget where it was.
- 1:28:53Oh yeah, it was Aussie Park. and um
- 1:28:56finally got it got through and I said,
- 1:28:58"Look, I'm having problems getting this
- 1:28:59international thing happening." And the
- 1:29:01lady said, "Oh, just refresh your
- 1:29:03screen." And I did and it was there. So,
- 1:29:06it had worked the first time. It's just
- 1:29:07a little glitch. So, that's a very long
- 1:29:10way of saying if you don't have a comse
- 1:29:13account or an international one, it only
- 1:29:16takes a matter of minutes to get one if
- 1:29:18you want. And what the lady said on the
- 1:29:21other line was, you don't need funds in
- 1:29:25your account to apply for shares, but
- 1:29:28you obviously do need the funds in your
- 1:29:30account to get them once they've been
- 1:29:32approved. And Paul, I don't know if you
- 1:29:34got any inside not inside information,
- 1:29:36but I think it take it'll take a few
- 1:29:38days between applying and getting a
- 1:29:40result, won't it? Surely it it'll take
- 1:29:42some time.
- 1:29:43>> Yeah.
- 1:29:45Who knows when we're going to find out
- 1:29:47about it all cuz um SpaceX did a S on
- 1:29:52their S1. They did an amendment.
- 1:29:55>> Yes.
- 1:29:55>> Today. So I think hopefully that's the
- 1:29:59last amendment. So then hopefully
- 1:30:02at least by next week we should have
- 1:30:05have the users.
- 1:30:08>> There's not much time because they're
- 1:30:09supposed to be listing on the 12th of
- 1:30:11June, aren't they?
- 1:30:12>> I know. Yep. in about 11 days.
- 1:30:15>> The Australian perspectives is it hasn't
- 1:30:17even been lodged with ASICH as yet.
- 1:30:19>> No.
- 1:30:20>> So, you know, it's going to be like a
- 1:30:23week to
- 1:30:25apply for shares to um find out how many
- 1:30:30you got and then transfer your funds and
- 1:30:33have them take your funds, have the
- 1:30:35funds clear and get confirmation that
- 1:30:38you got shares in the IPO.
- 1:30:40>> Yeah. the concept um app stuff is very
- 1:30:45quick
- 1:30:46like it's a lot better than the old days
- 1:30:48which used to take two weeks to do
- 1:30:50anything
- 1:30:52now it's just like yeah good
- 1:30:53>> it's very fast
- 1:30:56>> so there you go so um as far as whether
- 1:30:58it's a good idea to buy shares or not
- 1:31:01none of this is financial advice
- 1:31:04>> me personally I thought ah I wasn't
- 1:31:06going to buy any Tesla uh any SpaceX
- 1:31:09shares but I thought I might get some
- 1:31:10for fun. Even though me personally, I
- 1:31:13believe that
- 1:31:15the same amount of money put into Tesla
- 1:31:17shares at the same time would probably
- 1:31:19get a better result in the short term.
- 1:31:21But that's only my personal feeling
- 1:31:24based on nothing in particular. But
- 1:31:27still, um, SpaceX will be going to the
- 1:31:30moon literally and metaphorically and
- 1:31:33beyond.
- 1:31:35um
- 1:31:36literally in rockets and probably in
- 1:31:39market cap eventually, but you know,
- 1:31:42that's only a personal opinion and not
- 1:31:44financial advice.
- 1:31:48And it's going to be the biggest IPO in
- 1:31:50history.
- 1:31:53So, uh they're going to float
- 1:31:55approximately 4% of their market cap,
- 1:31:58which is probably one of the thinner
- 1:32:00IPOs as well. or maybe it's not but um
- 1:32:034% about 75 billion US on a market cap
- 1:32:08approaching$2 trillion.
- 1:32:14>> So there you go. Um
- 1:32:18welcome back Jared in the house.
- 1:32:20>> How you going?
- 1:32:22>> All right. You going to you going to buy
- 1:32:24some SpaceX shares Jared?
- 1:32:25>> Uh yeah I'm not too sure about that one
- 1:32:28yet. So, um, no, I'm not, uh, I'd rather
- 1:32:31just stick my money back into Tesla, I
- 1:32:32think,
- 1:32:34at the moment.
- 1:32:35>> Possibly. Possibly a good move. Possibly
- 1:32:37a good move.
- 1:32:38>> Yeah.
- 1:32:39>> Have you been fishing, Jared? It's a
- 1:32:41long time since you've been.
- 1:32:43>> Yeah. Yeah. Been uh been uh fishing.
- 1:32:46Yes, that's it. Fishing. I'm a big
- 1:32:48fisherman. Uh, coming very big
- 1:32:50fisherman. There you go.
- 1:32:52>> Right. Yep.
- 1:32:54>> Um, yeah. So
- 1:32:57>> very good, very good. Um,
- 1:33:01uh, one of the things is, uh, people are
- 1:33:03talking about is that at the moment in
- 1:33:06SpaceX, Elon Musk has 82%
- 1:33:10of the vote in SpaceX and in Tesla, he
- 1:33:15has less than 20% at the moment. And I
- 1:33:20think it's going to increase if the
- 1:33:23uh all the trenches of the 2025 CEO
- 1:33:26compensation plan get um are achieved
- 1:33:29within the next
- 1:33:32several years.
- 1:33:34I think it's next 5 years or so or maybe
- 1:33:36it's 10, I can't remember. Uh then his
- 1:33:39his control of Tesla voting shares could
- 1:33:41go up as much as approaching 30%.
- 1:33:45Um,
- 1:33:47so there's sort of talk or speculation
- 1:33:50that, you know, maybe SpaceX will
- 1:33:54merge with Tesla and whether or not
- 1:33:56that's a merger of equals or whatever.
- 1:33:59The only one thing as a person of my age
- 1:34:03who who is similarly age to Ilan Musk is
- 1:34:06the only risk I see at all. There's no
- 1:34:09risk with Elon Musk having control
- 1:34:11voting control of of any company that he
- 1:34:14he has built because he is really the
- 1:34:17most key person to the entire thing. My
- 1:34:20only slight thought was
- 1:34:24that um if Elon Musk was to um die or
- 1:34:28become incap incapacitated,
- 1:34:31what would happen to those voting rights
- 1:34:34and how would they pass on to his
- 1:34:36successes and who has control of what
- 1:34:39those successes do and who are they and
- 1:34:42how does that get handled?
- 1:34:45So I think he I think he addressed this
- 1:34:48at some point a couple of years ago uh
- 1:34:51when people started talking about keyman
- 1:34:53risk etc. And he basically said that a
- 1:34:58successor has been identified but has
- 1:35:00not been made public.
- 1:35:02>> No no no uh sorry Pete I don't mean um
- 1:35:05>> oh you mean his
- 1:35:06>> professional successor. No no no I don't
- 1:35:09mean his his professional successor.
- 1:35:12I mean, who inherits his shares, his
- 1:35:17voting shares, his um super voting
- 1:35:21shares?
- 1:35:22>> If it's his kids, I'd be concerned.
- 1:35:25>> Yeah. No, you would think it would be um
- 1:35:28whoever the successor for Tesla or
- 1:35:31SpaceX, whoever the nominated
- 1:35:34>> successes are.
- 1:35:35>> No, I don't I don't know. No, because it
- 1:35:38would go to his beneficiaries in his
- 1:35:39will. And then the point is if it was
- 1:35:42under Australian law, we know that no
- 1:35:45matter what you write in your will,
- 1:35:46that's only a serving suggestion because
- 1:35:49ultimately it is something contestable
- 1:35:51in in a court of law and it is the
- 1:35:54courts that will decide ultimately upon
- 1:35:58objections
- 1:36:00of um
- 1:36:03like WA there is a succession law sorry
- 1:36:05a inheritance law and it has certain
- 1:36:08guiding principles you children, blah,
- 1:36:10blah, blah. Spouses, second wives, etc.,
- 1:36:14etc.
- 1:36:15>> It doesn't matter what it is in
- 1:36:16Australia. What is it in the US
- 1:36:18>> precisely? So, what I'd like to know,
- 1:36:20and I'm not trying to be negative,
- 1:36:21please don't think I'm being negative.
- 1:36:25And like I said, Musk is similarly aged
- 1:36:27to me. So, I don't care if he dies the
- 1:36:30day after me or the week or a year
- 1:36:32before me because hopefully we'll both
- 1:36:35be old and it won't matter because in 20
- 1:36:37years time Tesla would have x number of
- 1:36:40bagged from today's levels and it
- 1:36:42doesn't really matter. My only slight
- 1:36:45concern is Elon Musk sadly is one bullet
- 1:36:48or one stroke or one heart attack away
- 1:36:51from not being in control of his shares.
- 1:36:55And my only question is who gets the
- 1:36:57control? not so much of the ordinary
- 1:37:00shares of the super voting shares
- 1:37:02>> the voting rights basically
- 1:37:04>> the voting rights
- 1:37:05>> because in space he has 82% of those
- 1:37:08rights
- 1:37:09>> yeah so I would think it would be
- 1:37:10logical that those in his will he would
- 1:37:14have something to say that those voting
- 1:37:16rights go to whoever is made the
- 1:37:20successor uh and the successor has
- 1:37:22already been named but hasn't been named
- 1:37:25so publicly and he said for obvious
- 1:37:27vious reasons because they would be
- 1:37:29head-h hunted. So
- 1:37:32>> yeah, that's my only question is if if
- 1:37:35it was to be that those super voting
- 1:37:37rights upon his demise
- 1:37:39get diluted
- 1:37:41and then some of them pass on to his um
- 1:37:44legal successes, his familial or
- 1:37:46whatever you want to call it, um
- 1:37:48inheritant inherited successes, then
- 1:37:51that's fine. Um, but I'd be concerned if
- 1:37:55>> well,
- 1:37:56>> you know, I don't know. I don't know how
- 1:37:57I mean, how many children does he have
- 1:37:58and how many of them are in 12?
- 1:38:00>> Well, maybe 14. You could have a board.
- 1:38:02>> It was 12. He's a busy boy.
- 1:38:05>> No, he's up to 14 now.
- 1:38:07>> Yeah. So, look, if it was 14, you could
- 1:38:09say that that would be a mini separate
- 1:38:11board of of in but I mean, some of these
- 1:38:13are infants and toddlers and children. I
- 1:38:18mean, not adults. So anyway, that's the
- 1:38:21only that's my only wrinkle is um
- 1:38:25>> well, you would you would think
- 1:38:26logically he would have set it up the
- 1:38:29way he would want it to be set up. So if
- 1:38:33he was um you know, we we know what he
- 1:38:36wants him as being at the helm of Tesla
- 1:38:40and SpaceX.
- 1:38:42Um well um the CEO of SpaceX is um
- 1:38:47>> Gwen Shotwell. Gen,
- 1:38:49>> chief operating officer.
- 1:38:50>> Yeah. CEO. So, but um yeah, so he would
- 1:38:56he would want it to be set up for the
- 1:38:58new successor the way he wants it set up
- 1:39:02now. So, you would think those voting
- 1:39:05rights would go to the successor because
- 1:39:08that's what he wants now.
- 1:39:09>> Where's the documentation? Where's the
- 1:39:11That's where
- 1:39:12>> none of these Well, not even the
- 1:39:13successor has been made public and they
- 1:39:16make them public.
- 1:39:17>> Yeah. Okay. I I just think I would be
- 1:39:19look Elon Musk could get assassinated
- 1:39:21tonight.
- 1:39:23>> It's not unplausible because
- 1:39:27look at the current president has had
- 1:39:29multiple assassination attempts
- 1:39:31>> at least three or four now. Yeah. So
- 1:39:33>> so so Elon Musk you know people die
- 1:39:36suddenly in their 50s
- 1:39:38of either you know lead poisoning or
- 1:39:41heart attacks or um you know strokes and
- 1:39:46other things. Yeah.
- 1:39:47Um, and that's my only concern is what
- 1:39:50could possibly happen.
- 1:39:54It would be great if it was if it was if
- 1:39:56that was publicly stated
- 1:39:58because it is a concern that that not
- 1:40:01Elon Musk but his successes
- 1:40:04being familial successes determined by a
- 1:40:06court of law ultimately
- 1:40:09have super duper voting majority over
- 1:40:12SpaceX. That's my only concern and
- 1:40:15that's maybe that's my irrational
- 1:40:16personal concern notwithstanding I'm a
- 1:40:19similar age to Musk. So if he dies at a
- 1:40:21similar time to me then I won't
- 1:40:22literally care because it won't matter.
- 1:40:25But you know if you're a lot younger, if
- 1:40:26you're a 20-year-old you definitely know
- 1:40:29that by the time you're in middle age
- 1:40:30Elon Musk will be dead. He's not going
- 1:40:32to live forever because that hasn't been
- 1:40:34cracked yet. Well, but just because it
- 1:40:37hasn't been cracked yet doesn't mean
- 1:40:39it's not going to be cracked in 10 time
- 1:40:43fittest cat in the in the the fittest
- 1:40:46dog in the kennel. Just quiet.
- 1:40:47>> He told Ron Baron that he reckons it'll
- 1:40:49be crack
- 1:40:53neural might actually suck his brain out
- 1:40:55and he's actually put it into a Optimus.
- 1:40:58>> Optimus.
- 1:40:59>> Musky in a bottle. Musky in an Optimus.
- 1:41:02>> Precisely.
- 1:41:03Well, um, Damo, they reckon that, um,
- 1:41:07already for every 12 months of time that
- 1:41:11passes,
- 1:41:13um, the advances in AI and medicine and
- 1:41:19surgical procedures and what have you
- 1:41:21and life extension mean that for every
- 1:41:2412 months that passes, there's something
- 1:41:26like
- 1:41:27um, you know, 13 months of,
- 1:41:32you know, like The advances contribute
- 1:41:34to 13 months of extra life for the
- 1:41:36average person. So essentially for every
- 1:41:4012 months you're really now only aging
- 1:41:4311 months on average you know as far as
- 1:41:45the population is concerned and that
- 1:41:48will uh accelerate and uh I forget who
- 1:41:53it was that
- 1:41:55um
- 1:41:58yeah I forget who it was that who
- 1:42:00forecast or predicted that by 2035
- 1:42:05um that 11 months was going to be down
- 1:42:08to like one or two months. So for every
- 1:42:1112 months that your age, you're really
- 1:42:14only aging one or two months because for
- 1:42:16every 12 months that your age, you're
- 1:42:18adding, you know, I don't know how many
- 1:42:20years to your expected life uh to your
- 1:42:23life expectancy. So
- 1:42:25>> yeah, and they're sort of talking in
- 1:42:26terms of you might be able to achieve
- 1:42:28effectively escape velocity whereby the
- 1:42:31rate at which they reverse aging is is
- 1:42:34faster than you age. So therefore, you
- 1:42:36go backwards or you don't you don't age
- 1:42:38any further. So then you might live
- 1:42:40forever, which would be worse because
- 1:42:42then you'd be scared of walking across
- 1:42:44the street for want of dying by accident
- 1:42:48because you you can still be killed by,
- 1:42:50you know, being blown up or get lead
- 1:42:52poisoning or, you know, other things.
- 1:42:55>> Is that high velocity lead poisoning?
- 1:42:57>> Yes, that is exactly high velocity lead
- 1:43:00poisoning.
- 1:43:03>> Yes, that's true. Yes, that is with
- 1:43:06elemental lead, not um lead oxides or
- 1:43:08whatever you call it. Lead what was it?
- 1:43:11Lead in petrol. Yeah, whatever. Lead
- 1:43:13lead
- 1:43:14carbonate or something. Anywh who, but
- 1:43:18anyway, that wasn't my only concern of a
- 1:43:20super duper voting majority is not what
- 1:43:23Musky does if he shares or with his
- 1:43:25companies for that matter because, you
- 1:43:27know, he is singularly driven. He's
- 1:43:30always said he wants to just be as
- 1:43:32useful to humanity as he possibly as
- 1:43:34useful as possible during his life and
- 1:43:37that's a very honorable thing. I'm just
- 1:43:39concerned personally as what might
- 1:43:42happen afterwards because no matter what
- 1:43:45Musky
- 1:43:47if it all gets down to what happens at
- 1:43:49the process of inheritance then that is
- 1:43:52not actually of his control because by
- 1:43:55definition the states will have very
- 1:43:57similar laws to us
- 1:43:59>> which is the court will ultimately
- 1:44:00decide and we all know what courts can
- 1:44:03do
- 1:44:05anywh who um but yes So SpaceX, it'll be
- 1:44:09not next week's episode, but the one
- 1:44:12after. I guess it'll be all done.
- 1:44:15>> Yeah.
- 1:44:16>> I think it's Friday next week. Friday,
- 1:44:19Saturday next week.
- 1:44:21>> Yes. Which Larry Goldberg said that a
- 1:44:24Friday is the very worst day to have an
- 1:44:26IPO. The best day is actually a Tuesday
- 1:44:29>> because
- 1:44:31it gives you three clear trading days
- 1:44:33after the IPO for the the markets to
- 1:44:35sort of settle down. He goes, "The
- 1:44:37Monday is not usually not good. There
- 1:44:39was some technical reason for Oh,
- 1:44:41because the market on a Monday is kind
- 1:44:44of directionless because it's had the
- 1:44:46weekend off and it doesn't really know
- 1:44:47what its trend is." So, Tuesday is a
- 1:44:50best day, Wednesday is a good day,
- 1:44:52Thursday's not that great, and Friday is
- 1:44:56terrible. So, according to Larry
- 1:44:58Goldberg, who's done three IPOs,
- 1:45:01launched three IPOs, he said that, yeah,
- 1:45:04he didn't believe that Friday would be
- 1:45:05the day. So then I presume that means
- 1:45:08things are more likely to get delayed
- 1:45:10than come early. So maybe it'll be later
- 1:45:13later on. But um
- 1:45:17anyway, we'll see what happens. All
- 1:45:19righty. Um at about
- 1:45:233/4 into this program, I think that's
- 1:45:25right. Maybe it's more than that.
- 1:45:28>> Um I think it's seven quarters 78,
- 1:45:30sorry,
- 1:45:31>> of this program. If we got any solid
- 1:45:35>> seven quarters divided by two. Seven
- 1:45:38quarters divided by two. Um,
- 1:45:41that's probably right. Um, we got any
- 1:45:44closingish questions or comments
- 1:45:53or anyone that might be curious about
- 1:45:56anything else or whatever else that's
- 1:45:57happened. Uh great one. What's
- 1:46:01>> sorry T wear?
- 1:46:05>> Yes.
- 1:46:05>> What's people's experience with um
- 1:46:08tower? Because it looks like I've gone
- 1:46:09through my rear too in uh 24,000
- 1:46:14>> on the inside edge again.
- 1:46:18>> Whoa. Whoa. So, you've got a juniper
- 1:46:20>> juniper
- 1:46:22last year
- 1:46:24>> and I've done 20 under 25,000 and
- 1:46:27apparently my inside edges are getting
- 1:46:29pretty close to being worn through.
- 1:46:32>> So, Mark,
- 1:46:33>> and trekking before I went.
- 1:46:35>> Didn't you have that problem?
- 1:46:37>> So, I sold my Glacia Blue Juniper
- 1:46:43when I the day I got my Model Y L. It
- 1:46:47had done 56,000 kilometers. It had never
- 1:46:51had its wheels rotated, nor its
- 1:46:56uh wheel alignment checked at all. And I
- 1:47:00was shocked at how much meat was left on
- 1:47:02all the tires. Um I was literally, in
- 1:47:06fact, I just wonder if I've got I'll
- 1:47:09just see if I've got those images.
- 1:47:12Uh,
- 1:47:15I don't. Um, I was gobsmacked at how
- 1:47:20good they were. I'll see if I can very
- 1:47:22quickly bring them up. So, you've got an
- 1:47:25anomaly because you've got exactly the
- 1:47:27same car I had, Mark. And
- 1:47:29>> well, mine's just a few months months
- 1:47:31younger, but it's the same generation of
- 1:47:34the Model Y.
- 1:47:38>> Oh, sorry. Yes. Younger. Yes. Yes. So
- 1:47:40yeah, yours is a launch edition.
- 1:47:43>> No, it's not launch edition. Mine's June
- 1:47:46June 25. Yours was late 24, was it?
- 1:47:50>> I'm pretty
- 1:47:53No, it was it was June. We got it I got
- 1:47:55it in the end of May
- 1:47:582025.
- 1:48:00>> Oh, right. So mine's June 2025.
- 1:48:03>> Yeah. No, if yours is not the launch
- 1:48:06edition, it'll be a bit older. Yeah,
- 1:48:08>> I think because there was a time there
- 1:48:10was a time when he could only get the
- 1:48:12launch.
- 1:48:13>> Yes, you got you got the launch and mine
- 1:48:15was the first of the non-launch.
- 1:48:17>> Yours would be younger, not older.
- 1:48:19>> Yeah, younger.
- 1:48:20>> And I'm just trying to find my tires. I
- 1:48:25was shocked, Mark. I was truly
- 1:48:27>> Yeah, I've got loads of meat on them. If
- 1:48:28I put my fingers through loads of meat,
- 1:48:31but apparently the inside edges of them
- 1:48:33are actually getting quite worn. Not the
- 1:48:36inside. The Yeah, the inside. You have
- 1:48:39to put your hands right inside.
- 1:48:41>> So, uh, I'm going to upload this. I'll
- 1:48:46just be two seconds. Um,
- 1:48:49>> but I was I was I I was convinced cuz
- 1:48:52I've done 56,000 KS, driven around
- 1:48:54Australia twice,
- 1:48:56>> and so all on the same roads you've been
- 1:48:58on. Well, most of the same roads
- 1:49:01>> and um
- 1:49:03>> are in such good condition. I reckon I
- 1:49:05could get I could probably ek out close
- 1:49:07to 100. Certainly 90 easy. And that's
- 1:49:11without even rotating them. Um
- 1:49:15>> so I would get yours your wheel
- 1:49:18alignment checked.
- 1:49:19>> Well, they didn't check before we went.
- 1:49:21>> Uh well, did they change it though? Who
- 1:49:24who did it? Was it Tesla or someone
- 1:49:26else? No, it was I got it um Bosit um
- 1:49:30tire power in June and they checked I
- 1:49:33got them to check the tire thing and I
- 1:49:34rotated them just before I went just in
- 1:49:36case.
- 1:49:39>> The only thing I'm going to say is look
- 1:49:42if the tires are wrecked I go I'd take
- 1:49:45it to Tesla and get them to do the
- 1:49:48alignment. Yeah,
- 1:49:49>> I was shocked because I believed that
- 1:49:52the rear
- 1:49:54>> camber
- 1:49:56>> was fixed and unadjustable and is what
- 1:49:58it is basically pretty much.
- 1:50:00>> And I know people like Tie Power will do
- 1:50:02things like they'll pull in they'll give
- 1:50:04the backs a little bit of extra tow in
- 1:50:06to try and roll the tires so that you
- 1:50:09compensate for the inner wear cuz it
- 1:50:11kind of tries to
- 1:50:13>> put that wear to the outside. Um, but I
- 1:50:18should be able to have I should have
- 1:50:19these uh images up in two seconds. And I
- 1:50:24just couldn't believe how good these
- 1:50:26these tires were. And they were
- 1:50:29>> that they weren't the factory tires.
- 1:50:31They were the um
- 1:50:35Handcook ion
- 1:50:38Evo ion as
- 1:50:40>> Yeah, they were actually designed for
- 1:50:41this type. this car,
- 1:50:43>> the Juniper.
- 1:50:45>> It was.
- 1:50:46>> Yeah, but I put the different wheels on
- 1:50:48though. I put the um the um classic
- 1:50:52Model Y um Apollo wheel caps and stuff.
- 1:50:57They were different wheel. They were
- 1:50:58different tires.
- 1:50:59>> Oh, right. I've done the handcuffs that
- 1:51:01came with the car.
- 1:51:03>> Yes. Yes. But I had no sign of inner
- 1:51:07wear. I'm just trying to get this thing
- 1:51:08to update.
- 1:51:10Um,
- 1:51:15sorry, it's just taking a little bit of
- 1:51:17uh time.
- 1:51:19Just bear with me for a second.
- 1:51:22Downloaded to a Oh, here we go. 58
- 1:51:24seconds ago. Um,
- 1:51:32sorry, Windows is just a pain.
- 1:51:35But yeah, I I get them I get tested to
- 1:51:37to check it out just in case.
- 1:51:39>> Yeah.
- 1:51:41>> Um
- 1:51:43because my experience was completely
- 1:51:45different.
- 1:51:49>> Um while I'm doing that, yeah. Anyone
- 1:51:51else got any other questions or
- 1:51:52comments? Um
- 1:51:54>> before we wrap this?
- 1:51:55>> Um I'm I must admit that Tesla haven't
- 1:51:59really changed their um high standards
- 1:52:01of delivery. Um after speaking to the
- 1:52:05management of uh Okconor, they were
- 1:52:08telling me that my car is coming in
- 1:52:10September the 16th. Um and it's still
- 1:52:14coming on September the 16th. And then a
- 1:52:17gentleman asked me today, he said,
- 1:52:18"When's your car coming, Jared?" And I
- 1:52:19said, "Oh, hang on. Let me just check
- 1:52:21the app. I'm pretty sure it's the 16th."
- 1:52:23And then on the app, it had changed to
- 1:52:27in 29 days. Actually, 25 days. So down
- 1:52:3125 days.
- 1:52:33>> Um that's of course it's you know coming
- 1:52:35from Germany so it's having to stop at a
- 1:52:38few other countries and you know go
- 1:52:40through the straight and all that sort
- 1:52:42of stuff. So um yeah.
- 1:52:45>> So Jared that that will get it in this
- 1:52:48quarter if that's still what they do for
- 1:52:50reporting sales. That's that's exactly
- 1:52:52why I'd say it's coming because when I
- 1:52:54spoke to them on Monday, it wasn't
- 1:52:55coming till September the 16th, but now
- 1:52:58uh it's coming on in 29 days or 25 days.
- 1:53:03So, um
- 1:53:04>> Wow, that's cool.
- 1:53:06>> Jared Jared, what are you getting?
- 1:53:09>> Performance Model Y.
- 1:53:10>> Oh, nice.
- 1:53:11>> Yeah, silver. The silver color.
- 1:53:13>> Oh, the quick silver. That's wicked,
- 1:53:15Jared.
- 1:53:17>> Yeah. Very excited. Very excited. I've
- 1:53:19been waiting since March.
- 1:53:21>> So, you know,
- 1:53:23>> such a long time to wait.
- 1:53:24>> I know. It's crazy. It's spent something
- 1:53:27like uh I don't know 50 days on the
- 1:53:29boat. I don't know where it went, but
- 1:53:30maybe they do a banana run. They drop
- 1:53:33off bananas and other stuff.
- 1:53:34>> Yeah, they probably went to the Dutch
- 1:53:36East India company and got some herb or
- 1:53:38some spices and then went back the other
- 1:53:40way and, you know, had to set sail for a
- 1:53:42bit. And
- 1:53:43>> when my car left, cuz they told me it's
- 1:53:45left, I think they just were designing
- 1:53:48the Model Y. And my
- 1:53:50>> Yes.
- 1:53:53They're great.
- 1:53:54>> Um these these are the wheels. The you
- 1:53:58can see these are the um Gemini. So the
- 1:54:01Apollo uh rims
- 1:54:04>> which have the Gemini wheel caps. This
- 1:54:06is the the uh the driver's side rear and
- 1:54:10that's the inner one. Wow.
- 1:54:11>> It's like I was shocked. And then the
- 1:54:14next the next image is that's the left
- 1:54:17rear. And again, just look at like even
- 1:54:21on the edge.
- 1:54:22>> Yeah.
- 1:54:23>> It's just And this is after 56,000
- 1:54:26kilometers. This is the front.
- 1:54:28>> I mean, just look at that. It's it's
- 1:54:30like the front's like it's untouched,
- 1:54:33>> you know? And um you know you know why
- 1:54:36that is, Harold? cuz you've been driving
- 1:54:39on FSD supervised the whole time.
- 1:54:42>> No, no, I wasn't on the first lap. No,
- 1:54:45no, not the first lap, Pete. And the the
- 1:54:47original ones, um, Mark, were the
- 1:54:49Michelins.
- 1:54:50>> Yeah.
- 1:54:51>> So, these the these are the factory ones
- 1:54:53I took off on the second day I got the
- 1:54:56car. I took them off, put them in
- 1:54:58storage, put my old um Apollo rims on
- 1:55:03with brand new um Hancock ion
- 1:55:08um as but that's the condition after
- 1:55:1156,000 KS never being rotated.
- 1:55:16>> So if you if I did a sneaky and I'd
- 1:55:18actually put these backwards on the
- 1:55:20rims, I'd easily get 100,000 KS on them.
- 1:55:23Easy easy peasy. I mean, look how much
- 1:55:25meat there is. It's just ridiculous.
- 1:55:28>> Remember, you only do clockwise laps.
- 1:55:30>> So why do you go anticlockwise?
- 1:55:33>> Yeah.
- 1:55:33>> And undo all the damage. That's right.
- 1:55:37In fact, if I go backwards, I'll
- 1:55:38probably pick up all the rubber as well.
- 1:55:42>> Well, I've done 48,000 and I've only had
- 1:55:45two tires
- 1:55:47changed. I have to do the other two this
- 1:55:49year.
- 1:55:50>> Ah, yes.
- 1:55:51>> And then Michelin. So,
- 1:55:54>> the thing is Michelin's
- 1:55:56>> Yeah. Sorry. Go, go, come.
- 1:55:58>> No, no, I only did two last year because
- 1:56:00they said he was okay till this year.
- 1:56:03>> Yeah. Yeah. Michelins are are have got a
- 1:56:06great reputation of being very safe
- 1:56:08tires. They're very sticky and uh
- 1:56:10grippy, but one of the penalties you pay
- 1:56:13for that is they they do wear a little
- 1:56:15bit faster than some of the harder car
- 1:56:17harder tires. But yeah, that's still
- 1:56:19great. Like I said, I was personally
- 1:56:21shocked because in my experience, my my
- 1:56:24performance Model Y, the old one, was so
- 1:56:27bad, I resorted to getting a camber kit
- 1:56:30for the back cuz I was just sick of of
- 1:56:33having tires worn out to nothing. Um, in
- 1:56:37fact, I've got an image of a new of a
- 1:56:40New Zealand hire car I had that um these
- 1:56:45ones these are the photos taken on the
- 1:56:47car itself. Did you end up getting your
- 1:56:50money, Harold, out of them?
- 1:56:52>> Yeah, I did. Yeah.
- 1:56:53>> Yeah.
- 1:56:54>> Yeah, I did in the end. Um, okay. This
- 1:56:56was this was the New Zealand higher car.
- 1:56:59That was one tire.
- 1:57:02So, that's kind of bad.
- 1:57:04>> Yeah.
- 1:57:04>> And then
- 1:57:06>> these are the all these images are taken
- 1:57:08on the tire. That's another one.
- 1:57:11And then that's the third one. And then
- 1:57:14that's the fourth one.
- 1:57:16>> So, the iners, it's the classic on the
- 1:57:17iners. it just strips out
- 1:57:20>> to the point where one of these tires
- 1:57:21was slowly deflating.
- 1:57:24Um probably because one of the um
- 1:57:26snapped off
- 1:57:28uh steel belts was poking into the
- 1:57:30bladder and then basically it was just
- 1:57:34deflating one of the tires.
- 1:57:36So um
- 1:57:38>> that's my experience with the classic
- 1:57:40model wise. But yeah, Mark, it's such a
- 1:57:42shame that I look I I get
- 1:57:45>> I only found out because I got I got a
- 1:57:47puncture and it was text picked up a
- 1:57:50text screw and when they actually said
- 1:57:51it, it said you're getting really worn
- 1:57:52down on the inside edge of those rears.
- 1:57:54When I feel it, it feels all right, but
- 1:57:57when you look
- 1:57:57>> Y
- 1:58:01>> what are you doing with the car you
- 1:58:03have?
- 1:58:04>> I sold it um just when the fuel prices
- 1:58:08went crazy. Um, I got a a really good
- 1:58:11deal. So,
- 1:58:12>> yeah.
- 1:58:13>> Um, what model did you have?
- 1:58:16>> Uh, Model 3 performance.
- 1:58:18>> Performance. And
- 1:58:19>> yeah, 2021.
- 1:58:20>> Share. How much you sold that for?
- 1:58:22>> Uh, 47,000.
- 1:58:24>> And what what year?
- 1:58:26>> 2021.
- 1:58:28>> Because my insurance says that my car,
- 1:58:31which is 2020,
- 1:58:33>> Yeah.
- 1:58:34>> it's worth 18,000.
- 1:58:37>> Yeah. I think with you these uh the red
- 1:58:39book, black book, all these different
- 1:58:41kind of books, uh you get all kinds of
- 1:58:44speculation. I was just lucky. Uh I I
- 1:58:47think I was
- 1:58:48>> very good price.
- 1:58:50>> Yeah. Well, I had dealers ringing me up
- 1:58:51offering me uh 25,000 30,000 one of
- 1:58:56them. Um just all these dealers ring you
- 1:58:59up constantly. And then I had a guy ring
- 1:59:01me up and said, "Look, I'll give you
- 1:59:0347,000 for it." And I said, "Yep, no
- 1:59:05worries." And I had it advertised for
- 1:59:0743. So I was a bit confused why he
- 1:59:09offered me 47, but I wasn't okay. That's
- 1:59:11what you're going to pay.
- 1:59:12>> Yeah. Well,
- 1:59:13>> that's Yeah. I mean, the fuel fuel was
- 1:59:16going crazy. Um, and Pete was predicting
- 1:59:19doom and gloom for the world and I was
- 1:59:21backing him.
- 1:59:22>> And how many KS?
- 1:59:24>> Uh, uh, I can't remember. I think it was
- 1:59:2725.
- 1:59:28>> Oh, okay.
- 1:59:29>> It wasn't It wasn't many. Maybe 25, 30,
- 1:59:32maybe. Real low. Yeah. Um, and it was
- 1:59:35immaculate. There was wasn't a scratch
- 1:59:37on it. Had a beautiful
- 1:59:39>> Still good. It's still very good.
- 1:59:41>> Yeah. It's cost me about $30,000 in fuel
- 1:59:44to run my Hilux for the last three
- 1:59:46weeks, four weeks. Um, you know, but um,
- 1:59:49you know, I can't wait for my car to
- 1:59:52come back, my new car. So,
- 1:59:53>> yeah. But Jared, those volatile organic
- 1:59:55compounds as you're filling it up and
- 1:59:57you're getting all the diesel fumes and
- 1:59:58the petrol fumes, it's just it just
- 2:00:01>> it's just great. you know, you you know
- 2:00:02you're alive when you're slowly
- 2:00:04marinating to death.
- 2:00:05>> I think well the real thing is when you
- 2:00:07get to go to Atlas Fuel and you get in
- 2:00:09the line of 6,000 cars because it's 4
- 2:00:12cents cheaper. Um I love working with
- 2:00:15people and you know the the the bonding
- 2:00:17that you create with people in that in
- 2:00:20that environment is just fantastic. And
- 2:00:22the way they get to express their
- 2:00:23feelings to the tendant behind the
- 2:00:25counter, you know, it's so welcoming,
- 2:00:27you know.
- 2:00:28>> So
- 2:00:28>> yeah. Yeah. I hope I never go to a
- 2:00:30petrol station again, but I can see me
- 2:00:32doing it again. But yeah, and it's, you
- 2:00:34know, and between here and up the road
- 2:00:37and in in the middle of a, you know, up
- 2:00:40up towards uh Geraldton and past
- 2:00:42Geraldton and Northampton, it can it
- 2:00:44just it just goes up by 80 80 cents.
- 2:00:47It's just crazy. So,
- 2:00:49>> so apart from car sales.com, if you
- 2:00:51wanted to buy
- 2:00:53>> That's Yeah, that's who I put my car on.
- 2:00:55Carsales.com.
- 2:00:57>> Yeah. But if you wanted to buy one at a
- 2:01:00good price for all my uh huge amount of
- 2:01:04grandkids.
- 2:01:06>> Yeah.
- 2:01:06>> Uh all wanting to buy cars, where would
- 2:01:09you go?
- 2:01:11>> Oh, that's that's a good question. I'm
- 2:01:14I'm really
- 2:01:14>> I'm talking about an a Tesla.
- 2:01:17>> Yeah.
- 2:01:17>> Um don't don't uh discount going to
- 2:01:21Tesla themselves.
- 2:01:23They often have relatively good pricing
- 2:01:27these these days because what they'll do
- 2:01:30is they'll buy it off
- 2:01:34um
- 2:01:36they'll they'll take in a trade in and
- 2:01:38if that trade in let's say has had FSD
- 2:01:42purchased on it and it's traded in with
- 2:01:45it they'll take it off but they'll just
- 2:01:48give you enhanced autopilot
- 2:01:52>> uh or vice versa, if it's uh come in
- 2:01:54with no FSD on it, they'll add enhanced
- 2:01:58autopilot. So that means that if you do
- 2:02:02subscribe to FSD, rather than paying the
- 2:02:05$150 a month, you pay about half of that
- 2:02:08$75 a month because it's worth, you
- 2:02:10know, it was worth roughly about five
- 2:02:12grand when it was available. So they do
- 2:02:16it. It doesn't cost them anything. Um,
- 2:02:19and but it gives you a little bit of
- 2:02:21extra value. Okay.
- 2:02:23>> They also do I don't know how many
- 2:02:25points safety check and they say they
- 2:02:28only take on the better cars. If they're
- 2:02:30no good, they sell them in the uh
- 2:02:32wholesale market to other dealers or
- 2:02:35what have you. So, you know, worthwhile
- 2:02:38having a look.
- 2:02:39>> Yeah. If they're talking about 20,000 uh
- 2:02:43for 2020, why why buy anything else?
- 2:02:48Tesla offered me um I think it was
- 2:02:4933,000
- 2:02:51>> okay
- 2:02:52>> for my car which I thought was you know
- 2:02:54>> bit low
- 2:02:55>> too low way too low but you know uh of
- 2:02:58course you know 3 weeks later the world
- 2:03:00went volatile with fuel so I was just a
- 2:03:03lucky time I mean I probably would end
- 2:03:05up getting 40 maybe 38 for my car um
- 2:03:09that's probably where I thought it was
- 2:03:11probably going to end up but I was just
- 2:03:12lucky that's all it's all it was just a
- 2:03:15case of fuel was going crazy. Everyone's
- 2:03:18buying BYDs. Um, you know, it's going
- 2:03:20through the roof and you know, that was
- 2:03:22it. So,
- 2:03:24>> so at the moment, uh, for Model 3s,
- 2:03:26there are three in as certified
- 2:03:28pre-owned,
- 2:03:30>> varying from 47,000 up to 58.
- 2:03:33>> Uh, that's a high.
- 2:03:36>> Yeah. So, 40 47 is the lowest they've
- 2:03:39got for a 2022.
- 2:03:41>> None of those prices really grab me.
- 2:03:43Yeah. Uh, no.
- 2:03:46Look at something in the 20s.
- 2:03:48>> Oh, you're not going to get a Tesla in
- 2:03:50his 20s.
- 2:03:52>> You don't want a Tesla that's advertised
- 2:03:54for 20 grand coming? No.
- 2:03:56>> Um, 35 is probably the lowest you'll pay
- 2:04:00for a Model 3 that's, you know, a 2021.
- 2:04:05Um, yeah, if that just jump on car sales
- 2:04:08and have a look.
- 2:04:10>> Um,
- 2:04:10>> yeah.
- 2:04:11>> So, why are the insurers saying that? Um
- 2:04:15that's all mine's worth.
- 2:04:17>> Uh they're just that's what insurers do
- 2:04:18classically come and they charge you a a
- 2:04:21lot in premiums and and reduce down the
- 2:04:24so-called market price.
- 2:04:26>> Yeah. And and also the market price is
- 2:04:29like Jared was alluding to, it's it's
- 2:04:30based on red book,
- 2:04:32>> but that is old data because you've got
- 2:04:36a war on and you've got a fuel crisis
- 2:04:39and you've got
- 2:04:41a a a an exponentially increasing number
- 2:04:44of people that are interested in buying
- 2:04:46an EV are sick of petrol cars and in
- 2:04:49particular diesel vehicles and they're
- 2:04:52all jumping on to EVs because that was
- 2:04:55that last little line resistance they
- 2:04:57had to just overcome and they're all
- 2:04:59clamoring for them. So,
- 2:05:02uh there's an artificially higher price
- 2:05:04on EVs now, unfortunately. So, so now is
- 2:05:07the perfect time to sell your secondhand
- 2:05:08EV. It's certainly not the perfect time
- 2:05:11to buy one.
- 2:05:12>> Um the new price hasn't gone up,
- 2:05:14>> but unfortunately the secondhand price
- 2:05:18has gone through the roof.
- 2:05:19>> Yeah.
- 2:05:20>> Relatively. So, but I wanted um to have
- 2:05:24it insured for not market value, but for
- 2:05:28value, agreed value.
- 2:05:30>> They would they wouldn't.
- 2:05:32>> Yeah.
- 2:05:32>> Well, then change insurer car. So, most
- 2:05:35insurance companies that would be RAC I
- 2:05:37presume. No.
- 2:05:39>> Well, no. I went from the the one that
- 2:05:41Tesla used.
- 2:05:43Uh I first
- 2:05:45>> yeah I had I had um the online one uh
- 2:05:51budget direct and then I went to Zurich
- 2:05:54>> because budget direct increased
- 2:05:56exponentially and then Zurich was
- 2:05:58reasonable and then they said they
- 2:06:01didn't want to be in the market of in
- 2:06:04that market anymore for Teslas. So then
- 2:06:07I went to NRMA.
- 2:06:10Um,
- 2:06:12so that's the last one I'm with.
- 2:06:15>> So, Carmen, I just had a look on car
- 2:06:17sales and I stand corrected. Um, I
- 2:06:20found, you know, admittedly not in WA in
- 2:06:23Queensland, but I found a
- 2:06:25>> one of my kids is going to bond, so
- 2:06:28that's all right.
- 2:06:28>> Okay. So, that's a 2021 Model 3.
- 2:06:31>> Yep.
- 2:06:32>> 130,000 km on it for 26,500.
- 2:06:36>> Wow. There you go. And um well that I
- 2:06:39know they're cheaper in Queensland, but
- 2:06:42>> that's that's pretty much the cheapest.
- 2:06:45Sorry, there's one car for 26,400,
- 2:06:47but it's a 2019 with 153, but those are
- 2:06:51the two cheapest Teslas in Australia.
- 2:06:54>> Okay.
- 2:06:54>> And in WA, you've got this is from price
- 2:06:57low to high. So you got a 2020 Model 3
- 2:07:00for 31,
- 2:07:02>> another one for 33. Yeah.
- 2:07:04>> Uh you can see the the um kilometers,
- 2:07:07you know, 99 or 100,000 and you know, 83
- 2:07:11odd
- 2:07:12>> and then you go into 34s or 35 grand.
- 2:07:16>> So they're around I look I'd say the
- 2:07:19mid30s is probably more of a realistic
- 2:07:23>> price. And you probably don't want more
- 2:07:26than 100,000 KS, would you?
- 2:07:30Is that be honestly the case?
- 2:07:32>> Yeah,
- 2:07:33>> to be honest, not it doesn't matter,
- 2:07:35Carmen. It's It's less important. I try
- 2:07:37and get a young I prefer a younger car.
- 2:07:41>> The What's What's What's Tesla's um
- 2:07:44warranty on the um battery?
- 2:07:47>> 80,000.
- 2:07:48>> 8 years.
- 2:07:49>> No.
- 2:07:49>> Oh, in the 80. It's Oh, 192
- 2:07:54192 is on the NCAA. on the out sorry on
- 2:07:57the LFPS it's 160 something
- 2:08:01>> okay so
- 2:08:02>> so yeah so Carmen if you get I I would
- 2:08:04pref generally prefer a younger car
- 2:08:07that's done slightly more KS than an
- 2:08:09older one that's done
- 2:08:10>> less KS
- 2:08:12>> right
- 2:08:12>> it sort of depends really but if you can
- 2:08:15get anything that's not much more than
- 2:08:18100,000 KS you know you've got safely
- 2:08:21between another 60 or 90,000 KS of
- 2:08:24battery warranty
- 2:08:26And let's face it, a lot of people
- 2:08:28struggle to do 60,000 KS in
- 2:08:31>> in several years.
- 2:08:33>> Yeah. So,
- 2:08:35>> the the thing too is you shouldn't think
- 2:08:37of the car of of a secondhand Tesla as
- 2:08:39the final car you'll ever have.
- 2:08:41>> It's it's a consumable item
- 2:08:44>> and it's saving money every day in fuel
- 2:08:47cost and it's it's a very safe car. So
- 2:08:50even the oldest Model 3 is basically as
- 2:08:53safe as the as the youngest Model 3 and
- 2:08:56and really let's say the crappiest Tesla
- 2:09:00is safer than the best brand new car
- 2:09:01that you can buy that's not a Tesla. So
- 2:09:04>> but on the warranty I think isn't it 10
- 2:09:07years or 10 something whichever
- 2:09:10>> that's only on the new cars common car
- 2:09:12that's only as of January this year I
- 2:09:14think. Oh, okay.
- 2:09:16>> Yeah. But, um, Carmen, if you're looking
- 2:09:18at 21 Model 3s,
- 2:09:20>> yeah,
- 2:09:21>> there was a period of from about I think
- 2:09:25might have been September, October,
- 2:09:27November, December. So the last three or
- 2:09:30four months of the year uh when you
- 2:09:33could uh you can get what I called
- 2:09:35unicorns in because Tesla was
- 2:09:38transitioning from
- 2:09:41um
- 2:09:43a faster older motor to a newer slower
- 2:09:47motor and to a slightly larger battery.
- 2:09:52But ju during the last three months or
- 2:09:54so of 2021, the cars still had the older
- 2:09:59faster motor but the bigger uh battery.
- 2:10:02So you kind of got the best of both
- 2:10:04worlds during that transition.
- 2:10:06>> Mine was in December and that was the
- 2:10:08case that one.
- 2:10:09>> Yep.
- 2:10:09>> December 21.
- 2:10:11>> Yeah.
- 2:10:12>> Early December.
- 2:10:13>> I've got one of those as well and mine
- 2:10:15came Mine was delivered in December but
- 2:10:17I think it was manufactured I'd have to
- 2:10:20have a look. Can't remember now. might
- 2:10:21have been in September, October,
- 2:10:23something like that or November. Yeah.
- 2:10:26>> In any case, um you you don't want a car
- 2:10:29that's necessarily much greater than
- 2:10:30100,000 KS.
- 2:10:32>> No.
- 2:10:32>> Init Yeah. Initially, unless it's really
- 2:10:34cheap, but look, anything you get for
- 2:10:37grandies, it'll it's it's one of the
- 2:10:40world's safest cars,
- 2:10:41>> they'll be saving money from day one
- 2:10:43because there's no servicing.
- 2:10:46Not to say there's nothing ever has to
- 2:10:48be fixed, but you know, it's very very
- 2:10:50minor and um it's super safe.
- 2:10:53>> Yes. Now, one of them is doing medicine,
- 2:10:56so he's going to be poor for about 10
- 2:10:58years
- 2:11:00>> and uh um at uh and he he does have to
- 2:11:04do the Gold Coast Highway all the time.
- 2:11:07>> Yep.
- 2:11:07>> So, um it'd be a perfect car. Wouldn't
- 2:11:11be such a bad thing for him. And he's a
- 2:11:13very good uh good driver.
- 2:11:16um he's had license for a couple of
- 2:11:18years.
- 2:11:20>> So,
- 2:11:20>> look, anyone that anyone that buys a
- 2:11:23close relative a Tesla of any kind is
- 2:11:25doing him a big favor. So, um but yeah,
- 2:11:29definitely don't discount uh
- 2:11:33Eastern States cars because that market
- 2:11:35is a lot
- 2:11:37>> um a lot more competitive than than WA.
- 2:11:40WA is a smaller market really. I I had
- 2:11:43dealers bringing me from Sydney and and
- 2:11:45Melbourne, you know.
- 2:11:47>> So,
- 2:11:47>> yeah, me too. I
- 2:11:49>> I I put the price up for my car uh
- 2:11:52because I was annoyed with all these
- 2:11:53dealers going, I'll give you as many K
- 2:11:55dollars as kilometers you've done in
- 2:11:57your car cuz they've done 56,000 KS. And
- 2:11:59I went, "Where you live in um Wedonga? I
- 2:12:03will drive my car to Wonga and by the
- 2:12:05time I get there, it'll have 65,000 KS,
- 2:12:07which is how much how many dollars I
- 2:12:08want, you idiot." And um
- 2:12:12>> um I ended up selling it later that
- 2:12:14after that later that evening.
- 2:12:15>> No no um it doesn't matter where it is
- 2:12:17because this kids um you know like the
- 2:12:20holidays
- 2:12:21>> so they would drive they wouldn't worry
- 2:12:24about going from Queensland to Melbourne
- 2:12:27or Sydney and one of them their father
- 2:12:31does business in Sydney so he would meet
- 2:12:33him there anytime and
- 2:12:35>> exactly work it out
- 2:12:37>> just with the agreed value. Carman was
- 2:12:38saying she had a really low one. Was
- 2:12:40quite surprised. We just had our renewal
- 2:12:42with Shannon's come through and I was
- 2:12:43shocked on ours. They put the um agreed
- 2:12:46value down. I think it was 67,000 and
- 2:12:48the car is only worth 72 when it was
- 2:12:50new.
- 2:12:51>> So for a $200 increase to the premiums.
- 2:12:54I'll take that. And u
- 2:12:55>> Well, I paid 80 for mine.
- 2:12:58>> Yeah, but you paid it just just before
- 2:13:00they
- 2:13:01>> they put the price down. Carmen,
- 2:13:03>> yes. I'm very annoyed. But I called
- 2:13:05Shannon's originally and they they
- 2:13:08drilled me about um being a suitable
- 2:13:13client because they wanted to know if I
- 2:13:16was an aicionado and I was going to join
- 2:13:19their club and all this rubbish. And I
- 2:13:22said, "Well, what's that to you? Do you
- 2:13:25want a do you want the deal or not?" And
- 2:13:28he said, "Oh, well, we're not an
- 2:13:29ordinary insurer." No.
- 2:13:31>> And I said, "So,
- 2:13:33so they actually went into insure to me.
- 2:13:36I never met them. I only talked to
- 2:13:38someone on the phone."
- 2:13:39>> So, I don't know where they got that
- 2:13:41from.
- 2:13:41>> I think they're more of a motor
- 2:13:43enthusiastic company.
- 2:13:45>> Yeah. They said that
- 2:13:46>> they want
- 2:13:47>> Sounds like Shannon's a B's name. And
- 2:13:49Shannon's there in the back going, "Hey,
- 2:13:51you know, do we want to let Carmen into
- 2:13:52our exclusive club?"
- 2:13:54>> Yes. No, no, it was very much like that.
- 2:13:56And um they asked me where I was going
- 2:13:58to drive and how long and uh did I and I
- 2:14:03said
- 2:14:04>> you should have said you should have
- 2:14:05said I'm going to go and drive with Damo
- 2:14:07at the drag and they would have said
- 2:14:10you're in straight away.
- 2:14:11>> I say Harold because he drives more.
- 2:14:15>> No, you should have said I'm just going
- 2:14:16to go to the uh local drags and only do
- 2:14:18a quarter of a mile at a time just at
- 2:14:22full throttle.
- 2:14:23>> I said you know what let's not bother.
- 2:14:26I'll go elsewhere. Thank you.
- 2:14:28>> Oh, yes. Dear,
- 2:14:30>> they sort of thought I wasn't going to
- 2:14:32be suitable to represent them as an
- 2:14:35insurer.
- 2:14:37>> Oh, they only want esteemed customers to
- 2:14:40have pranks in cars to get them fixed
- 2:14:42and written off. Deary mate.
- 2:14:45>> Maybe maybe because you're not a male
- 2:14:47car. Maybe
- 2:14:50something to do.
- 2:14:50>> They thought well they thought I must
- 2:14:52wreck their rallies. They wanted to know
- 2:14:55if I wanted to go on what sort of trips
- 2:14:58and I said none. I just want to drive
- 2:15:01around the city.
- 2:15:04>> They actually do they actually do do a
- 2:15:06great job for people with old cars.
- 2:15:10>> Uh you can get really good insurance.
- 2:15:13>> Uh and and of course the old cars, most
- 2:15:17people don't do very many KS a year. Uh
- 2:15:20and that's where that comes in. How many
- 2:15:22cars a year do you think you'll be
- 2:15:23doing?
- 2:15:24>> So, uh, but they do give really good
- 2:15:27insurance. I mean, we had three old cars
- 2:15:30>> for a while there. And, um,
- 2:15:34I can't remember now, but, you know, the
- 2:15:36the premium was just neither here nor
- 2:15:39there. And the good thing is if the car
- 2:15:42had an accident, you were always able to
- 2:15:44keep the car. Even if it was written
- 2:15:47off, you could keep it and rebuild it.
- 2:15:49So they they do provide a great service.
- 2:15:52>> Okay.
- 2:15:52>> And if you have got an old car that
- 2:15:55you're insuring with them and then you
- 2:15:57want to insure your new car, then it's
- 2:15:59usually no problem.
- 2:16:01>> Okay.
- 2:16:01>> Uh so you need So Jackie, you're saying
- 2:16:03it's you you need the stalking horse of
- 2:16:05having an old car
- 2:16:06>> with them
- 2:16:07>> and then they'll say, "Oh, we'll do your
- 2:16:09new car as well as part of the combin."
- 2:16:11Yeah. Cool.
- 2:16:12>> Yeah. We at one stage we had all our out
- 2:16:14we had about five cars and we had them
- 2:16:16all insured with Shannons including two
- 2:16:19standard road car type vehicles.
- 2:16:22>> Yeah.
- 2:16:22>> So you know
- 2:16:24>> um and so they do they do actually do a
- 2:16:26pretty good job in that respect. So
- 2:16:28>> yes, but just not with a brand new
- 2:16:30customer with just only a new car or
- 2:16:33newish.
- 2:16:34>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'll give them a
- 2:16:37chance uh when mine comes up for renewal
- 2:16:39and see what they say. And maybe I'll
- 2:16:41just get a script down about to be how
- 2:16:45to be right into it.
- 2:16:47>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I want to I want to
- 2:16:49have um I want to join the middle-aged
- 2:16:52Tesla owners club or something for
- 2:16:54ladies on and we we do drives around
- 2:16:57Langley Park.
- 2:16:58>> You can't lie. You can't lie, Harold.
- 2:17:00You have to give them your age.
- 2:17:02>> It is the truth. No. No. We Well,
- 2:17:04middle-aged. Yeah. No, we we'll all live
- 2:17:07we'll all live to 120. It's okay. Um
- 2:17:10>> it won't be long before there'll be
- 2:17:12classic Teslas. So the the moment they
- 2:17:15get classified as a classic car, then
- 2:17:18Shannons will love you.
- 2:17:20>> Yes.
- 2:17:21>> So if you hang on to your old car,
- 2:17:23>> you know,
- 2:17:24>> it'll it'll become a classic. Yeah,
- 2:17:26>> indeed.
- 2:17:27>> Well, mine is California. Okay.
- 2:17:30>> That's right. It's a California That's
- 2:17:32right. It's a It's a high quality um
- 2:17:35panel gaps that you can you can stick
- 2:17:38your arm through. Quality made in
- 2:17:40America car. Um on that note, it is well
- 2:17:44past our bedtime, so I should try and
- 2:17:46keep the show to as close to 2 hours as
- 2:17:48we can.
- 2:17:49>> So, um is there any very last minute any
- 2:17:52question or comments before we go? I
- 2:17:54think we're all pretty good unless
- 2:17:55there's something pressing. I'd like to
- 2:17:57think that the insurance companies will
- 2:17:59get better when there's more EVs on the
- 2:18:02road. Like, you know, compared to when
- 2:18:04we first had to, you know, put insurance
- 2:18:06with our cars back in the day and they
- 2:18:08didn't want to know us, but I like to
- 2:18:10think they're going to get better now.
- 2:18:11That's for sure.
- 2:18:12>> Yeah, indeed. Yeah, hopefully. Um, all
- 2:18:16righty, Pete.
- 2:18:18How would you round out an awesome show
- 2:18:20like this? As if I didn't already know.
- 2:18:23As always, stay safe, stay sustainable,
