0:00Now, as you guys know, my first Pokémon
0:02game was Let's Go Eevee, but when Gen 7
0:05first came out, these [ __ ] were
0:07everywhere on social media. Everywhere.
0:10I didn't see everyone in the cast, but I
0:12saw a decent amount of people, and
0:13needless to say, I was very impressed.
0:16Very, very, very impressed. So, I think
0:18today we're going to have some fun
0:19looking at the Gen 7 design, cuz I feel
0:22like Gen 7 is when Pokémon finally
0:24solidified their character design in a
0:27way that just made it so charming, so
0:29fun to look at. Because now they all
0:32follow similar cues as to the Gen 7
0:34artwork. Let's get into it. Let's talk
0:35about Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon's
0:37character designs, and just go over the
0:38entirety of the cast. Let's go.
0:43Now, this is called the Alola region,
0:45which is Hawaii-inspired. We begin as
0:48usual with our main characters. Our
0:49first one being Elio, baby boy. As
0:51usual, we got hat hair, cuz it's
0:53Pokémon. We can't go without the hat
0:55hair. It's very casual. The look is very
0:58chill. It's very tropical, almost. We
1:00have like a nice nautical T-shirt, some
1:02shorts with like the sweatpants cuffs.
1:05Almost what looks like water shoes, no
1:08sneakers. These look like shoes that you
1:09wear on the beach. He actually has
1:11longer hair than other protagonists, I
1:13feel. But again, it's kind of giving
1:15surfer boy, a very, very relaxed vibe.
1:17It feels like a region that's kind of
1:19like designed for that, if that makes
1:20sense. This one isn't even like
1:22water-centric, like Winds and Waves was,
1:23cuz Alola is actually a decently varied
1:25region, but the vibe is tropical. He has
1:28great colors. Have you guys noticed that
1:30like the Pokémon protagonists tend to
1:32use like the glizzy color scheme for the
1:33most part? Like we use black, [music]
1:36white, red, and blue a lot in Pokémon. I
1:38wonder why. The vibe of Alola is just
1:40very calm. And like the day and night
1:43thing for Sun and Moon also generally
1:45adds to like that very much chill, don't
1:47think about the passage of time thing,
1:48which I like. Now, Sun and Moon also
1:51have the Ultra games. Like the design is
1:54cute, but why does he look so much
1:55younger? I don't know why Elio lost
1:57[ __ ] five years of his life. The
1:59design itself is fine. I think I prefer
2:02the OG though.
2:03Why do we have swim trunks with leggings
2:06underneath? I don't love that, but like
2:08I do like the idea of your swim trunks
2:10and your tank top and your backpack and
2:12your hat and that's it. Color scheme is
2:14about the same except his shirt is a
2:15little bit more of a turquoise blue as
2:17opposed to like a darker one. And he
2:19[music] has lost five years of his life.
2:20It's cuz they cut his hair. It's cuz
2:22they cut his hair. Like, let's go to the
2:24beach and build a sand castle. Like
2:26literally like
2:28The eyes are bigger. Oh yeah, they did
2:29change facial proportions just a little
2:31bit, not a ton, but just enough to make
2:32him look younger. I do think I like the
2:34shoes more on this one than in the other
2:36one cuz they look like the HIPPO POKéMON
2:38ALMOST.
2:39IT'S very kid coded. Yeah, it's very kid
2:42coded which is very funny because Elio
2:43in the original one was just older teen.
2:46Like take me seriously, I'm going to
2:47become a Pokémon champion as opposed to
2:49like the child that says that he's going
2:51to become a Pokémon champion but his
2:53team is like three Rattata's and a
2:54dream. They both fit the theme of
2:55tropical and like islander. So when it
2:58comes to design themselves, they're both
3:00on point. It's just really funny that in
3:01this one he feels so much younger.
3:03Selene, I have seen art of you that none
3:06of it should be in the Bible, but like
3:08but she's so cute. [laughter]
3:11She has the cute little baby hat with
3:14like that It's not meant to be a
3:15chicken. I'm pretty sure it's supposed
3:16to be something like a sea anemone, you
3:18[ __ ] degenerates. Like that looks
3:20like an anemone. She has like the really
3:21pretty black hair with the black eyes.
3:23Were these customizable? I think that
3:25they were. I like the really oversized
3:27t-shirt with like the flower prints and
3:29patterns and the little teal short
3:31shorts are adorable. Again, much like
3:33Elio, she looks stupid tropical. She
3:35does look like she's geared up for a day
3:37on the beach. The accessory, the
3:38bracelet, what what the [ __ ] was the
3:40gimmick in Alola? Were we still doing
3:41megas in Alola? Z-moves, what the [ __ ]
3:43is that?
3:45Oh, oh hubby just told me apparently you
3:46dance stupid and then the Pokémon did a
3:48mega attack. Okay.
3:50I do like the accessories, they're very
3:51very cute. She's like mostly leggy.
3:53Unlike Elio, she's wearing normal
3:55sneakers. So, if Elio is like the surfer
3:57boy vibe Wait, was this the gen with
3:59Incineroar? These are Incineroar
4:01sneakers. So, like Elio is like surfer
4:03boy and Selene is like we're going to go
4:04hiking in the jungle, which honestly
4:06with the heat woman, no. Also, she has
4:09like no blue in her color scheme. It's
4:10predominantly warm tones overall. Very
4:12very sweet, very cute. The hair is
4:13adorable. I would not touch that hair at
4:15all. It's just so adorable. I like the
4:18big bow on the front of the oversized
4:20t-shirt. I like that we get to see like
4:21a hint of [music] the undershirt that
4:23she's probably wearing. I like the sea
4:25anemone hat. I do. Just really good
4:27color balancing and shape play overall.
4:29It's a GREAT SILHOUETTE.
4:31WHAT HAPPENED? Are you guys sure this
4:33isn't a prequel? This is a completely
4:35different person. Why is she so widdle?
4:38Yeah, this is a completely different
4:40character. Like the skin tone is
4:41different. She has buck teeth. Her eyes
4:43are huge. Where did the sea anemone hat
4:46go? I like the hibiscus shirt and I
4:48really like the poofy shorts and the
4:49cute little sandals and the bag, too.
4:51Again, the design is baller, but this is
4:52not Selene. Same game, different
4:55reality. I hate that, though. In Ultra
4:57Sun and Moon, they feel younger. They
4:58feel like this is like an 11-year-old.
5:00And in the OG, they feel like 14 to 15.
5:03What do you mean there's no skip
5:04cutscene button? Okay, I did not know
5:05that your mom was hot in Sun and Moon.

5:13sorry. Like the peasant skirt, the loose
5:15t-shirt, the sunglasses, and like the
5:17long flowing hair. She's like outside
5:19hanging laundry. Yeah, like she's nice
5:21and tan. You can tell she spends a lot
5:22of time in the sun. She's putting up the
5:24towels to dry after you go to the beach.
5:26You're going to come home and she's
5:26going to have snacks for you. It's going
5:28to be really sweet, you know? It's a
5:30milf material. She's really cute. The
5:31design is like super simple, but it's
5:33still really sweet. She's so pretty. She
5:36has such a like nice island mom vibe and
5:38just very casual, very cute. Gives less
5:40of a you whatever the [ __ ] you want. I'm
5:41not like a regular mom, I'm a cool mom,
5:43okay? Like gamer subs.

6:55very casual professor look to be very
6:57funny. Like the man bun, the hat with
6:59the rainbow on it. I think the hat with
7:01the rainbow on it might be a reference
7:03to the Hawaiian Somewhere Over the
7:05Rainbow song. He definitely looks chill
7:06as [ __ ] like he's going to just hop
7:08into the ocean at a moment's notice. I
7:09love his lab coat with no shirt on. I
7:12think it's really, really funny. The
7:13water shoes are a vibe. like Does
7:15anybody in Alola have normal shoes? I do
7:18like that we're showing off the wedding
7:19ring with no hesitation. That and this
7:21man being married.

8:42neck? I mean, yeah, if you're a diver,
8:44fun fact, the water pressure can make
8:46jewelry like [ __ ] squeeze you to
8:48filth. So putting it around her neck if
8:50she's a diver is a better choice. That's
8:52so [ __ ] cute though. And then I love
8:54the hairpiece. Her hair style's actually
8:56really really cute, too. I can't believe
8:58that Kukui bagged this baddie. Very
9:00similar color scheme to her husband,
9:02which I think is super cute actually.
9:04Like they both have like green and white
9:05and gray on their person except the main
9:08point of contrast is that her hair is
9:11white and his hair's black. It's super
9:13fun, great play on shades. You can very
9:14clearly tell that she's been like diving
9:17and learning more about like the
9:18ecosystem and [ __ ] I love her body.
9:20She's like super slender, very like
9:22weird, almost very tall. I feel like she
9:24would be taller than he is. Is she
9:25taller than Kukui? Nope, she's shorter.
9:27Oh, okay. Then again, let's talk about
9:31shape language cuz the very very skinny
9:33torso and long torso and very perky
9:36bubba dubas. Yeah, that give her a lot
9:38of height. Not to mention that she
9:39already has a lot of leggy. Even the
9:41hairstyle gives her a lot of height, but
9:43it's really fun to hear that she's
9:44actually shorter than he is. Adorable. I
9:46love both of them, honestly. They make a
9:47good pair, and they have individually
9:49very good designs as well. How? Okay,
9:51I'm guessing this is your rival or
9:54bestie.
9:55He looks like bestie. He looks like he
9:58wins Pokémon fights out of sheer vibes.

10:02>> Aggressively chill bean. Just swimsuit,
10:05backpack, the t-shirt, the little man
10:08bun, and does not know the meaning of
10:10the word stress. This guy has grown
10:13stress-free so far. He's never [ __ ]
10:16encountered a single thing that would
10:17make him upset. He will literally vibe
10:19the bad times away. Do we have a rival
10:22that's mean in this game? I enjoy your
10:24besties, but I like me a rival that
10:26might give me a little bit of [ __ ] But,
10:28I will say that Hau just looks like
10:30super sweet. It's a very simple design,
10:33too, but the shape language is pretty on
10:35point. It's very square. It's very
10:37reliable, fairly relaxed, still very
10:39friend-shaped. A triangular composition
10:42on the design itself. I get water shoes
10:44cuz yeah. I actually do like his color
10:46scheme a lot. It reminds me the yellow
10:49swim trunks and then like the green
10:51hair. This guy is a pineapple. It's a
10:53pineapple. Pineapple.
10:57Lillie is one of Pokémon's finest, one
11:01of the cutest designs ever. Fun fact,
11:03she carries the [ __ ] Nebby around in
11:04that bag, and Nebby weighs like 2 tons.
11:06So, for some reason,
11:08she can carry that [ __ ] thing through
11:10thick and thin. Where do I even start
11:12with Lillie's design that makes me like
11:14it so much? Like, she's aggressively
11:16like Ojosama coded. Very, very cute.
11:19Incredibly dainty clothes. The big sun
11:21hat, the dress that has like a little
11:24transparent bit on the bottom, the knee
11:26socks, the cute little baby shoes. Very
11:29[music] white, very clean, very pretty
11:31color scheme. A little red on her bag
11:33and a little bit of green on the eyes
11:35and everything else is just like super
11:37clean and crisp, almost like
11:40scientifically so. I do know for a fact
11:43that this outfit was actually something
11:45she did not pick out, Lusamine did, but
11:48it suits her so well. It makes her
11:50aggressively French shaped and just the
11:52silhouette work on this alone is just
11:54worth to be studied cuz she's distinctly
11:57jellyfish coded. Especially like the
11:59dress. The dress itself feels very much
12:01like a jellyfish, a moon jelly. If
12:03you've seen one of Lusamine's designs,
12:06you will know why, but Lily is just such
12:09a cutie. The bangs, the cute blonde
12:11hair, the little defiant expression, the
12:13fact that she has like that duffel bag
12:15that has a legendary Pokémon in it. Very
12:17soft colors. She does not give tropical.
12:20Lily gives you the distinct impression
12:22that she feels a little out of place in
12:23Alola. Like she's still dressed for the
12:25weather. She's dressed for heat. At the
12:27same time though, it's not a very
12:29practical outfit place like Alola, no.
12:30She's always frowning, she's very sulky,
12:33but I think she's an adorable character,
12:34one of my favorite designs that Pokémon
12:36HAS EVER MADE.
12:40I THINK THIS IS THE CLOTHES THAT SHE
12:41PICKS FOR HERSELF, but I've actually
12:44seen her wear this fit in the anime. She
12:47looks so much happier. She's just such a
12:49nicer vibe overall. Like she still has
12:51braids in her hair, but now she has a
12:52ponytail, which is going to be great for
12:54the heat. Love, love, love the sailor
12:55uniform debates. It's so [ __ ] cute.
12:57Except now we're wearing it with ankle
12:59socks and cute little baby Mary Janes.
13:01Her backpack is pink and she's holding
13:03it with like the confidence. It feels
13:05more like her, if that makes sense. I
13:08like both outfits. I think that like
13:10aesthetically the first outfit tickles
13:12my fancy more. However, when it comes to
13:16like accurately portraying her
13:18personality, this one is better. And
13:20you'll notice the shading in this Lily
13:22is actually done with warm tones. If you
13:25see the outfit from the OG game, the
13:28shading is done in cool tones entirely,
13:30which contributes it to feeling very
13:32sterile. Yeah, Moonlily versus Sunlily,
13:34essentially. Ilima.
13:36>> Oh, is this the creepy rival?
13:38>> Not rival. Like, he kind of looks like
13:41he's a bit snotty. It's [music] like he
13:43would scoff at you if you get something
13:44wrong at school, like, or a gym leader.
13:47Well, kind of. Okay, so apparently Alola
13:50doesn't have gym leaders, so we're doing
13:52their equivalents, right? Kind of hard
13:55to get his type. I would probably say
13:57normal, if there is one. I don't know. I
14:00don't know. But, like, his design is
14:01pretty slick. He looks very chill, while
14:04at the same time feeling [music] very
14:06like snobby. Tell me that isn't the face
14:09of [ __ ] money. Yep, normal. Okay,
14:11yeah. Cuz like, he looks normal, but he
14:13still looks way too much design to just
14:14be a normal NPC. Only in places like
14:17Alola could you wear white pants like
14:18that. And they would not make your ass
14:21look gigantic. It takes a lot of
14:22confidence to wear white [ __ ] like
14:25this. But like, he looks like he's going
14:27to [ __ ] beat me in a Pokémon fight
14:29and then kick me out of the country
14:30club. And again, notice the shading
14:33undertones in this, predominantly warm.
14:35Cuz everybody in this game kind of have
14:37to look like they're in the sun. It's
14:39super pretty. He's gorgeous. His face is
14:41amazing. I like the droopy eyes. I love
14:43the blue eyes with like the pink hair.
14:45Super simple silhouette. Does not feel
14:47like a gym leader, but guess what? He's
14:49not supposed to, cuz they don't have gym
14:50leaders. So, it makes sense. I like it.
14:52Lana. I've seen an un- godly amount. Not
14:57so much of Lana, although I'm pretty
14:58sure it exists, of her mother. Like,
15:01I know the mom was anime only. She's not
15:03in the game, but I've seen it. Obviously
15:05water type trial captain. Look how
15:07[ __ ] cute she is, though. I love the
15:10designs in this, because like, we have
15:12the fishing pole. She looks like there's
15:14a fishing net in her hair. She has like
15:17a sailor silhouette and like a school
15:19swimsuit almost underneath her normal
15:22outfit. The big like fishing shorts are
15:24such a vibe with the little wave
15:26pattern. The same accessory that Ilima
15:29had as an earring, she has it off her
15:31belt. Super simple color scheme, very
15:33cute. The hair looks like a crashing
15:36wave on the bottom. It has great color.
15:38She's one of those Pokémon characters
15:39that you don't really see the whites of
15:41her eyes, but that just makes her look
15:42even cuter if that makes sense. She's so
15:44sweet. She has such a great [ __ ] like
15:46silhouette in general. And this one you
15:48can tell it's water immediately
15:50because all the elements are there. I
15:52did not know that she was a trial
15:54captain though. I was under the
15:56assumption that she was one of the
15:57protagonist's friends. What What a cute
15:59design. What a great use of [ __ ]
16:00silhouette and theme cuz she just looks
16:03like a very chill like fisherman's
16:06daughter type of vibe. Oh my god.
16:10Yeah. Yeah, that's

16:12>> about what I expected for the fire trial
16:16captain. You know that penguin from
16:18Surf's Up, the one that [ __ ] makes
16:20that noise with his trophies?
16:21>> Yeah, it's a long story.
16:23>> Similar ballpark. Probably cuz his hair
16:25reminds me of like those like tropical
16:27penguins. If this is one of those dudes
16:29that like if you go to like the luau, he
16:31spits fire. I love this design though
16:33because A, he has like the ashy
16:35undertone that he has to his skin
16:37actually kind of makes him feel like he
16:38was on fire and he's cooled down. I
16:40really like the swim trunks though. I
16:43like the bright red with burgundy
16:46accents and [music] like the little like
16:48flared edges of the trunks that kind of
16:50look like smoke or like it's on fire.
16:53Great sandals too. And like he has like
16:55his little charm for like trial captain
16:58around his neck like his puka shell
16:59necklace. I don't know if he has tattoos
17:02or if those are just like scars or
17:04something, but they look really dope.
17:06The hair color is great. Dual-toned
17:08eyebrows. If you guys don't know this
17:10about Hawaii is that it's one of the
17:13zones that has like incredibly active
17:15volcanoes. So fire is as much a part of
17:18the island's culture as water is. So,
17:21it's kind of like nice to see that like
17:22they make the call to fire being a very
17:24important part of this dude's design.
17:26And not just cuz he's a fire type, cuz
17:27like the whole thing he has kind of
17:29reminds you about volcano. In fact, I
17:30would argue that his swim trunks almost
17:32look like a volcano, you know? He looks
17:34like he yells a lot. Again, it's a
17:37master class in simplicity because only
17:39thing my guy is wearing is swim trunks,
17:41sandals, and his necklace. I get fire
17:43type at an absolute glance. That's it. I
17:45can tell you exactly what his deal is.
17:47Very strong. Kind of like one of those
17:49dudes that like he looks like he's
17:50intimidating, but he's probably kind of
17:52goofy. He looks like a dumbass, but like
17:54affectionate, you know? Milo, ungodly?
17:58I'm out. There's so much But I love her
18:01design.

18:03>> It's so cute. Obviously, we have the
18:05grass type trial captain here. Very chef
18:07coded. I love that her overalls double
18:09as an apron. Very clearly wearing either
18:12a pink swimsuit underneath them or a
18:15bodysuit. How do you know she's grass,
18:17mama? Her hair is green and there's a
18:18big [ __ ] off flower on it. Also, her
18:20shoelaces look like leaves. This is such
18:22a like cutesy casual outfit. [music]
18:25Perfect color balance. The tan skin is
18:27absolutely beautiful. Very cheerful,
18:29very peppy. She really does feel like
18:31some form of tropical plant. That's the
18:32silhouette that I'm getting. Nice little
18:34balance and use of pink as an accent
18:36color on her swimsuit and on the
18:37headband. Otherwise, I think she would
18:39be way too cool toned, but I do like the
18:43gray overalls as well. They could have
18:44gone all green and made her overalls a
18:46lighter green, too, but I think gray
18:48fits really well. For some reason, Milo
18:51tickles everybody's fancy. I think it's
18:53like the kind of tomboyish playful vibe
18:56that she has. Press A to pound. Stop.
18:58Sophocles, electric type, obviously,
19:01lives in the air conditioning. Never
19:03leaves the house because you are not at
19:06all dressed for this weather. You are
19:08literally wearing like I should T-shirt
19:10tucked into your pants and big sneakers
19:13and a scarf. And in Alola, yeah, he
19:15never leaves the AC. iPad kid vibes for
19:18sure. I do really like though the typing
19:22on him is electric cuz it's not because
19:25of the colors or the Pikachu tail scarf,
19:26it's cuz of the Gameboy. And not to
19:28mention he has like the lightning bolt
19:30on his shoes. He has the Pikachu toy and
19:33the What is that? Elect- orm? You I like
19:37the gamer belt as well. He has a bit of
19:40a more vibrant color scheme which I
19:41really really like. Very expressive
19:43character. The hair looks like it's been
19:45electrified but he probably hasn't
19:46brushed it in like a week. The unibrow
19:48is actually super cool. It's not two
19:51eyebrows, it's one eyebrow. The little
19:52blush like the little like bleppy like
19:54it's a very cute character. Again, shape
19:57language-wise he's stupid friend-shaped.
19:59Incredibly round which is funny for like
20:02an electric type trainer / trial
20:04captain. The thing that has the
20:05intensity and the electricity scarf and
20:07the hair I think. He has the round
20:09Pikachu like Pokémon as his main. I love
20:11that. Molayne.
20:13Oh, flying. Or wait, no, I don't see a
20:15trial captain badge on you.
20:17Is it steel just because of his tie?
20:19Nerd. Like I love how Pokémon plays with
20:21shapes when they're designing characters
20:22cuz like you have like Sophocles which
20:25is like a [ __ ] round ball thing and
20:27then you have Molayne which is like a
20:28beanpole. Incredibly tall lanky ass
20:31character. Ridiculously fun proportions.

20:55I've actually seen this character before
20:56not in believe it or not but like I've
20:58seen a lot of artwork of her with her
21:00Pokémon cuz ghost type is kind of like
21:02her vibe. I love this. I love the design
21:05language. I love the color. I love the
21:07aggressive ooh woo energy. The grippers,
21:11the super cute eyebrows, the fact she
21:14has the charm on her hair clip. Acerola
21:17is adorable. She's so pretty. Like the
21:19color scheme is also so gorgeous. It's
21:21completely cool tone, which is really
21:22rare for Alola, but I like it so so
21:25much. This is one of the ones that like
21:27you see it and you immediately
21:28immediately know what the type is, which
21:31is yeah, ghost. Like the torn up dress
21:34that's just put together with patches,
21:36the hair being like kind of unruly, but
21:38very very cute. It's oversized, so it
21:41makes her feel even younger. I like the
21:43really one big gold bracelet for like no
21:45good reason. It's a good way to add some
21:47warmth to the design. The shape language
21:49here is completely triangular, which
21:50beguiles some intensity, but it's also
21:52very sloped and not at all super
21:54angular, which gives her a lot of
21:56softness. Her eyes are like almost empty
21:59in a way, but still very very cute. Like
22:01character design master class on this
22:03one. Rich homeless child.
22:06Apparently royalty or descended from
22:07royalty. That would probably explain the
22:09bracelet. Mina. Oh, I've also seen an
22:12ungodly amount of Nazi porn of you.
22:13Yeah, yeah, Mina. Great design. Super
22:16[ __ ] fun. The weird artsy kid. I did
22:19not know that she was from Alola. I like
22:21it though because she's very much one of
22:23those like wandering artist types. Like
22:25she has like the giant t-shirt she used
22:27to paint with. Like why the [ __ ] would
22:29she wear clean clothes ever if she's
22:31going to [ __ ] whip out a sketchbook
22:32no matter what. Like she paints with
22:33[ __ ] like pastels and wipes her hands
22:35on her shirt, I can guarantee it. I love
22:37the ring. I will say based on your charm
22:40and your color scheme fairy type. I
22:41would say fairy type for her because of
22:43the colors and because of the vibe and
22:44because like she's very like artistic.
22:46And fey have traditionally been very
22:49drawn to the artsy types. I adore the
22:52absolutely annihilated sneakers.
22:54Destroyed. I think it's supposed to be
22:56like ruffles on the top, but it looks
22:58more like she's been wearing those
22:59sneakers so long that they're about to
23:00fall apart on her feet. The ripped jeans
23:02are actually a really nice touch as
23:03well. I like that she's probably wearing
23:05like a a pink sports bra or a tank top
23:07underneath the [ __ ] giant t-shirt
23:09that she uses to like [ __ ] paint
23:10with. I also really like that you can
23:12easily tell she's an artist cuz she's
23:13carrying around a sketchbook. [music]
23:14Sometimes visual storytelling and
23:16character design, it doesn't need to be
23:18something bombastic. You don't need like
23:19the beret or like oh, big paintbrush,
23:22but just the fact that like her shirt is
23:24paint stained,

23:26fact, the tips of her hair look like
23:28paintbrushes. And she's carrying on a
23:30sketchbook, that's all you need. That

23:33deal is. I also really like the way that

23:38droopier, a little bit weird. You can
23:40tell that Mina is one of the older trial
23:42captains or Elite Four cuz her shoulders
23:44are a little bit more broad. She's only
23:45a really big head, but still. It's such
23:47a simple design, but it gets the job
23:48DONE REALLY WELL. OBLIGATORY Pokémon old
23:50man. Insane beard or mustache time.
23:54Almost always wears yellow, right? Very
23:56much that vibe. I don't know what your
24:00typing is. I'm probably going to guess
24:01something along the lines of ground
24:02maybe. Oh, wait. No, you're right.
24:04Fighting cuz he has like a fighting
24:05pose. You look like you and the
24:07pineapple are related. I feel like you
24:09might be like his grandpa. I love his
24:11like knot belt that is not even in the
24:13right place. Love the rope flip-flops.
24:16They look very traditional. I like the
24:18haori that he's wearing, like bright
24:20yellow, super fun, super playful. With
24:22the blue shirt, it's really nice. And I
24:24like that he basically just just really
24:26resembles Hala. Yeah, it's Hala's
24:28grandpa. But I like that it has like the
24:30one accent color, right? Like the one
24:32red. So that means that like Hala has
24:34every primary color on his color scheme,
24:36which is a really nice touch as well.
24:38Again, like everyone else in Sun and
24:40Moon, super simple, but super cool. I
24:42like it. Sumo coated, very much will
24:44push you, but to teach you A LESSON,
24:46CHILD.
24:49WHY DOES YOUR RENDER LOOK SO CHOPPED?
24:51What is that face? Dark type? Dark type?
24:55Dark type? He looks like he hasn't slept
24:57in 20 years. Only in Alola. Only in

25:03this. Like, he very clearly looks like a

26:12Like, dude, she's so hot. The body type
26:14is insane. I love the teal nail polish.
26:17Like, the teal is an accent color. It
26:18works so good against that skin tone.
26:20But, I like the primary color scheme is
26:22like pink [music] in different shades.
26:23If there is ever a time of year to dress
26:26[ __ ] and justifiably so, it's when
26:28it's hot out. So, imagine a place like
26:31Alola where it's almost always hot out.
26:33Mama, you have to dress like a turbo
26:34[music] [ __ ] It's I'm sorry, that's the
26:36law. 10 out of 10 on Olivia, I would
26:38say. Apple. Add fetus.
26:41Add super fetus. Rock type or ground
26:43type. Could be either one of those. The
26:44thing I like about this design is the
26:47eyes. Dude, she is staring deep into
26:50your soul. Giant eyebrows. I like the
26:52combo between like the tan jumpsuit and
26:55the purple colors overall. Look at how
26:58well repeated the shapes are. Like super
27:00big oval eyes, almost oval eyebrows, the
27:03ovals in her hair. It's just very round,
27:05very playful, very fun, but the gaze is
27:08piercing. If you want to make a
27:09character look like they're staring into
27:11your soul, give them like white pupils.
27:13That almost always does the trick. Rich

27:23mini dress with that like fluted edge on
27:26the wings, the [ __ ] golf club that
27:28has like the same color scheme as a
27:30Toucan's beak, and like that little

27:33Orange accents, orange knee socks. I'm 4
27:35years old. I don't know what it is about
27:37golfing and tennis outfits that make
27:38them so sexy. And then like she has like
27:40that mole on the side and she looks like
27:42such a [ __ ] I'm guessing that the
27:44Toucan Pokémon is one of the ones that
27:46she has cuz she has like that color
27:48scheme. Again, it's such a cool color
27:50scheme cuz orange and blue go really
27:53well together. So, the fact that they
27:54made like the blue more desaturated and
27:56they made the orange like bright as [ __ ]
27:58really helps the character stand out.
28:00It's a phenomenal use of abstraction.

28:04without actually putting a bird on her

28:41The Ultra Recon Squad. Wait, how are you
28:44guys Pokémon characters? Your skin is
28:46blue. Super weird. I mean, it's the same
28:49designer, clearly. They're all wearing
28:50like the same uniform, but in like
28:52different styles. These must be from
28:54Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon cuz I've
28:55actually never heard of them before. I
28:57like the uniforms a lot, though.
28:58Predominantly cool tones, really cool
29:00helmets and visors. These have to be
29:01like legit aliens because Pokémon never
29:03does that. But you are dressed like
29:04clouds, so I'm guessing that you're bad
29:06guy. Really fun silhouettes, really cool
29:08color schemes, nice accent colors for
29:10everything. I would [ __ ] with this one,
29:12the blue one, yeah. Nice bags.
29:15This is another example, by the way, of
29:17what I like to call uh visual
29:18characterization, but this one is
29:19actually done with uniforms. It's
29:21Everybody has the same uniform, but it's
29:23tailor-made to their own personal taste.
29:25So, the Ultra Recon Squad, pretty cool.
29:27I like them. Duke O my lord.
29:32Bombastic, incredibly loud,
29:34rocker-coded, super fun. I love how
29:37spiky it is. I like how shiny it is.
29:40Aggressively bright red. Insane
29:43silhouette. Like, no chill, whatsoever.
29:46Nothing about this character is subtle.
29:47If the rest of the cast in Sun and Moon
29:49so far had been like pretty like
29:50subdued, Duke is like, "Eh, baby, I'm
29:53about to come in with like the most
29:55shiny latex you've ever seen, the
29:58spikiest stuff you've ever seen, and the
29:59craziest hair you've ever seen." It's a
30:00pretty fun vibe, I will say that much.
30:03The stand user could be anyone. More.
30:13Oh, Team Skull was like low-key kind of
30:15[ __ ] Team Skull was funny to me
30:17because they had really, really funky
30:19designs. They had like the big [ __ ]
30:22pendants. I like the girl grunts,
30:24though, cuz I love the short shorts.
30:26They don't look like bad guys, they look
30:27like they went to a skate park to
30:29[ __ ] paint some graffiti and then
30:30went back home. We're delinquents, but
30:32like not really, like I love the designs
30:34for them. I also really like that the
30:36entirety of the outfit is black and
30:38white, but then they have really bright
30:39hair, which is really fun to look at.
30:41And again, great play on shapes for both
30:43of them cuz they're both wearing very
30:44similar clothes, but they're executed
30:45super differently. They're just
30:46dumbasses. We love that about Pokémon
30:49though. The giant S medallion for Skull.
30:52Oh my god. It's actually so well made
30:54cuz it's an S, but it is also a skull.
30:57Like it's a skull kind of like tilted to
30:58the side, but I can see the S in it,
31:00too. Very nicely designed, honestly.
31:02Team Skull, they might be goofy as [ __ ]
31:04but they're very fun.

31:09This is Lillie's brother, a billion
31:11percent. Okay, so Lusamine, did you just
31:13[ __ ] raise two miscreants? How absent
31:16a mother were you? One of them is
31:18terrified of Pokémon and lives in an
31:20attic, and the other one just became a
31:22hoodrat.
31:23Unlike Lillie, who has a very sterile
31:25look, Gladion seems to have gone the
31:27opposite route of he desires
31:29individuality desperately, you know? I
31:31don't know if he's the younger or the
31:33older sibling, or if they're twins,
31:35can't really tell you. But, this is the
31:37dude that like went to Hot Topic and
31:39never came out. This guy was probably so
31:40used to being dressed up like a [ __ ]
31:42porcelain doll because I know this is
31:44what Lusamine is like, that as soon as
31:46he [ __ ] ran away, he was like, "I
31:48need my own sense of style." He's still
31:49figuring it out. He's still figuring it
31:51out, but like he doesn't want it to be
31:52clean or sterile or bright. He's like,
31:54"No, give me dark [ __ ] colors. I
31:56don't care that I live in a tropical
31:57island. Red accents, big sneakers,
31:59destroyed sweatpants and jacket, goofy
32:01collar." Like he wants intensity, but
32:03underneath the very like spiked jacket
32:06and all that jazz, it's still very
32:09clearly a soft character at heart, I can
32:11tell you. Like you can tell that he's
32:13not trying to be a hard-ass. He's just
32:15desperate to be his own person. And
32:17again, I haven't played the game, so
32:18this is just me [ __ ] ballparking at
32:20I'm guessing what their deal is, but
32:22that's the vibe I get from this dude.
32:23He's just a white boy, a little bit.

32:45I also really like her twin tails. Skull
32:48like the hair's coming out of the eyes
32:49on the skull. Like she is going to not
32:52be nice to you, but you'll probably
32:55appreciate that. She has a lot of sex
32:56appeal, but like it's alternative sex
32:59appeal. It's very alluring. Also,
33:01you could interpret this look in two
33:02ways. Either she caked on darker
33:04foundation than her skin tone, or she
33:07put sunblock around her eyelids and let
33:10her other skin tan.
33:12It's a very ghetto look, actually,
33:13believe it or not. I also like that she
33:15barely has eyebrows. A super fun design,
33:18to be sure, and obviously a very like
33:20more important part of Team Skull

33:33This is probably the leader of Team
33:35Skull. Um
33:36idiot. I see this man. I see this gaunt

33:42gold bling. This is like the most white
33:44boy tries rapping thing I've ever seen.
33:46I love him, though. The [ __ ] smug ass
33:50cocky grin, the big chains, with more
33:53broccoli hair. Like this is like every
33:55teenager. I like that he dyes his hair
33:57very obviously, cuz like his roots are
33:59black, mama, cuz like and the outfit,
34:01too. Like the sweatpants, like baggy
34:04sweats sweats with like clean white
34:06sneakers. He has a white on the top and
34:09then black on the bottom closer to his
34:10skull. The
34:12He has black brows. Lord send me, I love
34:14this man. I'm sorry. This is one of
34:16Pokémon's best character designs, cuz it
34:18just has so much attitude. It's just
34:20like aggressively like dorky dad coded,
34:24but he owns that [ __ ] He wears that

34:49gen, which is anything and everything to
34:51do with the Aether Foundation. First of
34:53all, both of these uniforms

35:00designs for the Aether Foundation is
35:01never not going to make me happy. Clean
35:03white and pure gold, hyper sterile, but
35:06with so much flair.
35:09I love the hats. I love the big sleeves.
35:12I love the big pouches. Giant sneakers.
35:14I am of the a school of bigger is better
35:17when it comes to character design, so
35:19seeing elements that are like huge, like
35:21they always make me really happy cuz you
35:22play with silhouette a lot when you do
35:24that [ __ ] Like these do look like
35:26researchers, field researchers, the
35:28people who probably run up to you to
35:30fight you if you're trying to [ __ ]
35:31get into the foundation. I like that
35:33girly pop is wearing tights underneath
35:35like the romper and the guy just has
35:37like a bodysuit and that's it. No belt,
35:38no nothing. It's super clean. I love the
35:42warm tones of gold accents as well. The
35:44hairstyles are super pretty. This is
35:46Pokémon quote unquote bad guy, I think
35:49these are actually the the bad guys in
35:50this game, designs at their finest.
35:53They're not dark or edgy or brooding,
35:55but something about them is unsettling
35:57all the same. It's probably cuz they're
35:59so clean, they're hyper sterile, their
36:01gazes are kind of empty. They look
36:03friendly, but fake friendly.

36:20with that like capelet that squishes the
36:24phenomenally large bags, chat. Look at

36:35there's so much hairspray in there. And
36:37much like everyone else in the Aether
36:39Foundation, she's a very cool toned
36:41undertone to the shading on the
36:42character. Very sterile, very clean. The
36:44boots are so
36:46The shoes are so good. I'm so sorry.
36:48Like I could probably go at length about
36:50how good Wicke's outfit is cuz it's got
36:52great silhouette. And again, a chaotic
36:54one as well cuz her hair has a lot of
36:56twists and turns to it. There's
36:57intensity in the design, believe it or
36:59not. I don't know if Wicke is entirely
37:00good or entirely evil, but considering
37:02the fact that she's in the Aether
37:03Foundation, she's at least morally gray.
37:06You can't see her eyebrows and there is
37:07something slightly like off-putting
37:09about her smile, but Mom other to it's
37:12If I was going to say something about
37:13Wicke, it's probably that like she's
37:14kind of breaking rank in terms of how
37:17she wears her uniform cuz most of the
37:19Aether Foundation is dressed in really
37:20light colors. Wicke having some pink in
37:22there, having some color makes her at
37:24least a little bit more approachable
37:25than other members of the Aether
37:27Foundation. So, if she is nice, that's
37:30probably why you can tell. Bye-bye. Oh,
37:33Faba. These are my favorite designs in
37:36Sun and Moon. I love the Aether
37:38Foundation cuz look at that [ __ ]
37:40silhouette. Look at those big bombastic
37:42shapes. Evil. Lanky. Angular. Kind of
37:46mean. Every shapes he makes makes a
37:48triangle. The nose being super sharp and
37:50everything. Like yeah, like unlike Wicke
37:52which has very like warm colors, his
37:54accent color is a very very kind of
37:57poisonous green. He does not look nice.
38:00He actually looks like he made Lily and
38:03her brother run for the hills. Super
38:05sterile, super off-putting. Like I love
38:07the outfit so much though. IT'S SO GOOD,
38:09CHAT. The giant collar, the [ __ ]
38:12pants tucked into like the shoes, the
38:14green accented sleeves, like oh. He
38:17looks like a Scooby-Doo villain a little
38:18bit. Is this a Hypnolely? Oh.

38:47this gen. I'm really sorry. Again, they
38:49excelled with the Aether Foundation's
38:51designs. Look at that hair. The swoops,
38:53the purple highlights, the silhouette of
38:56the character being like super slender
38:58and skinny, but she still has a darkness
39:00to her design, like the black racing
39:02stripes on her thigh, the green and
39:04black pendant, the gold being a little
39:07bit colder in tone, the teal accents. A
39:10billion percent, are we sure that like
39:12Lillie and her brother didn't happen via
39:14mitosis? Cuz like there's none of the
39:16dad in there. I love how lanky she is.
39:19She has so much confidence.
39:21This is the type of like, okay, I'm
39:22going to call it, narcissistic mother.
39:24Again, I've never played the games, but
39:26this is the one character that would
39:28probably follow the narcissist's prayer
39:31to the letter. Like, nothing is her
39:33fault, ever. And if it is, I'm sorry you
39:36feel that way. A younger mother,
39:38obviously, but she does not look
39:41approachable or friendly at all. Unlike
39:43Wicke, who's incredibly soft and
39:45squishy, Lusamine is like angular as
39:48[ __ ] I don't feel like she would be fun
39:51to hug. There's no softness there. Even
39:54her eyes feel really empty. Wait, she's
39:5640? How the [ __ ] is she 40? Of anime.
39:59But still very much a character whose
40:01design is phenomenal, but whose story is
40:03not nice at all. And I do like that. I
40:05love morally gray women. Now, this is
40:08actually my favorite [music] design in
40:11Sun and Moon. The Ultra Beast is
40:13basically what happens to someone when
40:16they fuse with a Pokémon. In this case,
40:19it's Nihilego and it's um it's
40:21beautiful. It's a gorgeous gorgeous
40:23design. I don't know how we get here. I
40:25will probably play the game at some
40:26point. I just know that this happens.
40:27Notice how the color scheme inverted
40:29completely. There is no white, no
40:32sterile, no clean. It almost looks inky.
40:34There is eyes everywhere. I think this
40:37is actually kind of referencing a box
40:39jellyfish because those are the only
40:41jellyfish known in nature that actually
40:42have eyes, fun fact, and they have four
40:45protruding places where their tentacles
40:47come from. I genuinely like that we
40:49can't see Lusamine's arms in this. They
40:51seem almost fused with the Pokémon
40:52entirely. Her hair completely [ __ ]
40:54changes color. She no longer has the
40:57shoes or like purple black tights. It's
40:59such a goated design that I know that
41:01it's probably a spoiler, but A, game is
41:03old and I'm going to play it eventually
41:04and B, it's just such phenomenal
41:06character design that I feel like it
41:07deserved a merit. In the silhouette and
41:09its scheming, big evil jellyfish, like
41:12mother must have all control. That's
41:14like the vibe that I'm getting. It's so
41:16off-putting in the best way. I genuinely
41:19enjoy looking at it. This definitely
41:21feels like a corrupting influence in a
41:23way. Like it feels like the Pokémon is
41:25actually taking [music] her over almost.
41:27Like she's being swallowed, chat. And I
41:29also really like that her hair kind of
41:30looks like inkier. It's a gorgeous
41:32gorgeous gorgeous design. Love the use
41:33of color. Love the use of shapes. Love
41:35how distinctly Pokémon it is despite
41:37being a little bit more on the Pokémon
41:39body horror side of things. I don't
41:41think that they've done anything like
41:42this since, at least not from what I
41:44remember, and I really wish they would.
41:46This does not feel like a trainer that
41:48would throw a Pokémon at you and that's
41:50it. This feels like a Pokémon that would
41:52dead ass attack you. This feels like an
41:53actual last boss, which I love.

42:39really fun. Simple design overall. Tank
42:41top, jeans, that's about it. Yeah, I
42:43don't even know who this is.

42:50the vibe though, very tropical. She has
42:52like the bracelet for the Z-moves also.

43:46They're both very much dressed for the

43:52I haven't done Gen 1 or 2 yet, so I get
43:55confused between these two idiots. Red
43:57is the guy in the hat. It's like, "Why
43:58do I feel like Red just put on a t-shirt
43:59and called it a day?" Blue feels more
44:01like he was like, "Yep, I'm [ __ ]
44:02taking a few days off. Leave me alone."
44:04And Red just looks like he climbed up
44:05the mountain. Woman in a suit, it's
44:06great purple hair, done. He's from GEN
44:083, ACTUALLY. OH, THAT PROBABLY EXPLAINS
44:10why I don't remember. Gorgeous face,
44:12very like Bishojo coded.
44:14It's a simple design. The hair is really
44:16the standout for me and the earrings as
44:18well, very cool.
44:19Uh, just lady in suit though, simple.
44:22Oh, god, like the image quality. Ugh.
44:26Why are you ratty? The smile is huge
44:28though.
44:29Yeah, this is very much giving vacation
44:31rat man. His hands are huge, Jesus
44:32Christ. Cuz he is a rat man. He is a bit
44:34of ratty. I like the dual cone hair a
44:36lot. Uh, and I like how like sharp his
44:38[ __ ] scarf is. He very much looks
44:40like he's on vacation. He's wearing like
44:42the onsen yukata almost. A clean design,
44:44black and white, pretty much monotone.
44:46It's pretty simple as far as designs go
44:48and definitely more relaxed than what he
44:50looked like before.
44:52But I like it. I like it. Also, why are
44:53we still wearing the [ __ ] dress
44:56shoes? Like if there's one person who
44:58should be in sandals, it's this [ __ ]
44:59sucker. Why not? Dark and classy. I like
45:01his vibe, I do.
45:03And with that, I believe that is
45:04everybody in Gen 7. Genuinely one of my
45:07favorite Gens that Pokémon has ever
45:10done, Sun and Moon.
45:11It's just so cool, chat. Like everyone
45:14is amazing. Everybody looks super great.
45:16Even the more simple designs have a ton
45:18of personality and overall, it's a
45:20standout to me. The character
45:22silhouettes, the shape language, [music]
45:24the use of color, the art style is
45:26solid, solidified. And from Gen 7
45:29onwards, we kind of like maintain that
45:31uniformity but in a really, really cool
