ARTIST REVIEWS GEN 5 TRAINERS (BLACK & WHITE) — Transcript

1. 0:00is when I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to
2. 0:02watch Pokémon because my mom thought it
3. 0:04was the devil. So, I actually ended up
4. 0:06playing the games when I was like
5. 0:07[music] in my 20ies and I fell in love
6. 0:09with them and I do a whole project with
7. 0:12them. The Pokemon, that's another thing.
8. 0:13And now that I'm doing character design
9. 0:15stuff, I realized very quickly that one
10. 0:18of my [music] favorite gaming franchises
11. 0:20that designs characters that almost
12. 0:21never miss is actually Pokémon. I've
13. 0:24made a few videos of these. I made the
14. 0:26Pokemon Legends DNA trainers very
15. 0:28recently and then I was like, I should
16. 0:31probably do Gen 5 because apparently
17. 0:32it's a wildly beloved region and
18. 0:34according to a lot of people it has some
19. 0:35of the best character designs in the
20. 0:36series. I want to see if that's true cuz
21. 0:40whenever chat tells me anything I think
22. 0:42they are lying. So without further ado,
23. 0:46let's [ __ ] go.
24. 0:58And we start with obviously the [music]
25. 0:59protagonist Hilbert. Hilbert. Oh,
26. 1:03disclaimer. I know that Gen 5 has two
27. 1:05games, but for convenience's sake, I
28. 1:08have split this thing into two bits. One
29. 1:10for the first game and another one for
30. 1:12the second game in case it ends up being
31. 1:14two videos cuz it might be two videos.
32. 1:16Hilbert. All right, this is our MC. And
33. 1:18as in usual Pokemon fashion, we got a
34. 1:20hat and it's very sporty and it's very
35. 1:22cute. Except Hilbert actually looks like
36. 1:24he's dressed appropriately to go out
37. 1:27gallivanting in the woods to catch
38. 1:29things. Red, white, blue. Very American
39. 1:32actually because Unova is the state.
40. 1:34These remind me of like the ZNA ones if
41. 1:36that makes sense. That they're like very
42. 1:38stylish but very cute and obviously not
43. 1:40a fetus in a disgusting school uniform.
44. 1:41Yes, Scarvio. Yes, I'm not over it. I
45. 1:44like him. He looks sweet. I think he's
46. 1:47supposed to be like 15. I actually
47. 1:49prefer the older trainers personally as
48. 1:51someone who's older and playing Pokémon
49. 1:53games. And like as a kid, there was
50. 1:55nothing cooler to you than the older
51. 1:57kids, right? So having the protagonist
52. 1:59look a little bit older makes a lot more
53. 2:01sense to me, which is funny because I
54. 2:03believe that Pokemon's demographic is
55. 2:05still aging. They're getting more adults
56. 2:07playing the games now than kids. But
57. 2:08yeah, Hilbert looks pretty American. I'm
58. 2:10not going to lie. He looks cute. He
59. 2:12looks very Pokemon protagonist. It's a
60. 2:14very nice silhouette. very unassuming
61. 2:16main character. Very cute. We did not
62. 2:18have customization yet at this point.
63. 2:20So, there was a lot of RZ in the
64. 2:24character designs for the MC's cuz you
65. 2:25could just do whatever you wanted.
66. 2:26Granted, the Legends DNA ones still have
67. 2:28a ton of RZ, but Scarvio, no. So, Gen 5,
68. 2:31wonderful job with Hilbert. Hilda, my
69. 2:34girl. My girl. Okay. Like
70. 2:38apex predator. Like I have seen this
71. 2:41woman taking every
72. 2:44imaginable mostly gross Pokemon ones.
73. 2:47Okay. Like I think that people Nazi for
74. 2:50artists saw this design and immediately
75. 2:51went oh turbos [ __ ] No, but like I can
76. 2:54see why they went turbos [ __ ] The
77. 2:56design is phenomenal. It's not just the
78. 2:58cut off booty shorts though. It's the
79. 3:00[ __ ] big ponytail tucked into the
80. 3:02hat. It's the combat boot. She is not
81. 3:05dressed for the proper region. She's
82. 3:06going to get bit by all the takes. her
83. 3:07like cute trendy little bag, the vest,
84. 3:09and the tied tank top. Like, this woman
85. 3:11is dumpy personified. Okay. Like, almost
86. 3:14all of the work I've seen of Hilda has
87. 3:16just genuinely been
88. 3:19I'm sorry. Like, I'm sorry, but like,
89. 3:22let me zoom in on the [ __ ] Daisy
90. 3:24Dukes for a little bit. These are very
91. 3:26short, actually. Like, the pockets are
92. 3:29sticking out the bottom. They're like
93. 3:31ripped. Half an ass cheek is hanging out
94. 3:33on the back. like and I think that like
95. 3:35they wanted her to be like a [ __ ]
96. 3:36allout American girl trendy and she is
97. 3:39very trendy and she is very cute but
98. 3:41they by mistake made her super sexy. My
99. 3:44favorite thing about this MC compared to
100. 3:47Hilbert is the use of silhouette.
101. 3:50Hilbert's silhouette is pretty
102. 3:52unassuming. Hilda's silhouette is super
103. 3:54like intense and spunky and high energy.
104. 3:56Like her hair is messy, the shorts have
105. 3:59pointy bits. There's a lot more uh chaos
106. 4:02in her silhouette in general. The way
107. 4:04she's standing is more at like an angle.
108. 4:06She seems like she's about to take off
109. 4:08running any second now. And I kind of
110. 4:10love it. Plus, I love the way that they
111. 4:12combined the colors. She still has the
112. 4:13colors of the American flag, mind you,
113. 4:15but they're a little bit more subdued
114. 4:17with the blue cuz it's jeans instead of
115. 4:19like a jacket. Also, she's wearing black
116. 4:21and white. Oh, so I think Hilda's like
117. 4:24one of the best pro tags Pokemon has
118. 4:25ever had.

141. 5:29the the black and white color scheme.
142. 5:31The haircut is pretty sweet. I like his
143. 5:33glasses. In general, I think that like
144. 5:36his uh outfit is pretty bombastic, even
145. 5:38though it's kind of nerdcoated cuz like
146. 5:40the labels of his blazer are raised.
147. 5:42There's a lot of really strong shapes
148. 5:44here. Very, very fun. Is that Wait,
149. 5:47that's a shirt. I thought it WAS A TIE.
150. 5:48THAT'S NOT a tie. What tie goes past
151. 5:50your collar bone? He's wearing a [ __ ]
152. 5:53V-neck but styled it completely wrong.
153. 5:55Wait, you thought he was a girl? He has
154. 5:57a pretty androgynous silhouette. Like he
155. 5:59doesn't have Dorito body, but he doesn't
156. 6:01have super wide hips either. His face is
157. 6:03kind of girlish, but not super. It's a
158. 6:06lesbian haircut. Yeah, it is. Cuz like
159. 6:09does he like chase you around whenever
160. 6:10you get into trouble with your other
161. 6:11rival who's probably [ __ ] cool to be
162. 6:13the straight man over the joke? Most of
163. 6:15his time spent wrangling the pure dumb
164. 6:16energy of the other rival. Oh no,
165. 6:18Bianca. Oh, she's cute. She seems like
166. 6:22super cute and unassuming and then you
167. 6:24turn around then she's a menace to
168. 6:26society. She also looks like she's from
169. 6:28a family that might be kind of rich.
170. 6:30Like whenever a Japanese character is
171. 6:31dressed like this conservatively they
172. 6:33tend to be from like the more welloff
173. 6:35families. I don't mind it personally. I
174. 6:38think it's pretty sweet looking. I like
175. 6:40the like sweater vest thing she has on
176. 6:42her shirt under like the dress. Also
177. 6:44also damn the ass on this woman. Damn.
178. 6:48Like I thought Hilda had a fat dumpy but
179. 6:51like Bianca Bianca us like [ __ ] look at
180. 6:55that pear shape and that's not the
181. 6:57outfit chat that is all her. There's
182. 7:00nothing behind those eyes. Is there are
183. 7:02they empty? Let me see. She looks like
184. 7:04Foko. If Foko was a person they would
185. 7:08have this face like adorably derpy. Has
186. 7:11no idea what's happening. She doesn't
187. 7:12know where she is but she's having a
188. 7:14great [ __ ] time. You guys know that
189. 7:16orange is not my color, but it's used as
190. 7:18an accent along with the green. It's
191. 7:20very nicely balanced. The first third of
192. 7:22the design, which is head to shoulders,
193. 7:24is is like green. The second third is
194. 7:26balanced equally between orange and
195. 7:28green. And the last third is just
196. 7:30orange. So like it's a very nice
197. 7:31distribution of the accent colors
198. 7:33overall with the dress being white and
199. 7:34very very sweet. Matches her blonde hair
200. 7:36fairly well as well. Juniper.

202. 7:42THE START of the [ __ ] hot mom
203. 7:44professor. And this one is probably not
204. 7:46dead. First female professor. Oh, was
205. 7:47this the first one? Oh, [ __ ] yeah. The
206. 7:51actual design is pretty simple as far as
207. 7:53designs for Pokemon characters though.
208. 7:55But I don't mind that because she does
209. 7:57have the iconic coat except we've made
210. 7:59it a little bit girier. We flipped the
211. 8:01collar. We made it a little bit wider on
212. 8:02the bottom. Sleeves are still pretty
213. 8:04standard. She has really big pockets on
214. 8:05the side. We really highlighted the hips
215. 8:07with this one. Outfit underneath is just
216. 8:09a white shirt, a pencil skirt, and some
217. 8:11sneakers. does not need to be anything
218. 8:13more complicated than that. I like her
219. 8:15hair. It's very swooshy. And her
220. 8:17earrings are pretty cute, too. She has
221. 8:19Christmas color palette, though. She has
222. 8:21like white coat, green skirt, green
223. 8:24eyes, and red accents. Looks pretty nice
224. 8:26as usual. Very, very well balanced. It's
225. 8:28a design that's kind of unassuming, but
226. 8:30it works in a really nice way because
227. 8:32she's a scientist. [music] So, the coat
228. 8:34needs to be the standout here. I believe
229. 8:36it's a really decent one. Cedric
230. 8:38Juniper. Oh, and she's married.
231. 8:43Is that's Wait, no, hold on. He looks
232. 8:45way too old to be her husband. Dad,
233. 8:46father, grandpa, grandpa, dad. Let me
234. 8:49guess. Retired professor. He looks like
235. 8:51a scholar that's no longer working,
236. 8:53[music] if that makes sense. Oh, he has
237. 8:55old man pants. This is like the most old
238. 8:57man outfit I've ever seen. Pokemon, good
239. 8:59job. Like the wide-legged grandpa pants
240. 9:02with the belt and the shirt. Super
241. 9:04[ __ ] old coated. He looks kind of
242. 9:06handsy. No, this has silver fox energy.
243. 9:09The only bad thing is is that like I
244. 9:10didn't notice his beard at first and it
245. 9:12blended into his neck and I was like,
246. 9:13"What the [ __ ] is that protrusion on his
247. 9:15neck? Is he deformed?" But no, no, it's
248. 9:17just the beard. And they just drew the
249. 9:19beard funny.
250. 9:22Oh, she's cute. I like that she's
251. 9:24actually wearing her lab coat properly.
252. 9:26And I also like that we get a second
253. 9:28female professor. Oh, her hair is
254. 9:30beautiful. She reminds me of like Jade
255. 9:32Harley from Homestuck, but without super
256. 9:34messy hair. I love the coat to bits. And
257. 9:36I love the pink and I like the fact that
258. 9:38her hair is like the biggest chunk of
259. 9:40her design. It's super cute. Juniper's
260. 9:42cute college body. Oh, is she also
261. 9:44milaged? She gets shipped with Juniper.
262. 9:47Women cannot exist next to each other in
263. 9:48fiction. I've decreed this. Women cannot
264. 9:50exist next to each other in fiction.
265. 9:52Someone will try and make lesbian out of
266. 9:54it. It's a very simple design though is
267. 9:56one of the ones that like I would say
268. 9:57there's not a ton going on here, but
269. 9:59there doesn't need to be because
270. 10:00professors usually shine with the lab
271. 10:02coat more than anything else. I do like
272. 10:05that her color scheme is more pink
273. 10:07adjacent as opposed to being green like
274. 10:08Juniper. And also the hair is a really
275. 10:11neat touch. I like the vibe. I like the
276. 10:14waiter vibe. Oh, that's so [ __ ] cute.
277. 10:16Oh, why is the chat slinging Venom
278. 10:18immediately? It's like the anime Brock.
279. 10:20Oh, is he a ladies man? He looks like a
280. 10:22ladies man. He looks like a flirt. Uh,

284. 10:33I adore the waiter fit in general. I've
285. 10:36always thought it was very stylish. Like
286. 10:37the little vest, the pants, like it's
287. 10:41it's kind of formal, especially with the
288. 10:42bow tie, but then you add the big apron
289. 10:44and that immediately tells me waiter.
290. 10:46That's like the most classic waiter
291. 10:47outfit ever. I also really like the fact
292. 10:49that like the sleeves have really big
293. 10:51labels on the uh bottom. Like the cuffs
294. 10:54are huge, which is a really nice [music]
295. 10:55uh touch of design. It's a very simple
296. 10:58outfit, but he gives it a lot of
297. 11:01personality with how he's wearing it and
298. 11:02how he's like presenting himself. He
299. 11:04seems really laid-back, a little bit of
300. 11:06a flirt. The slick back hair tells me
301. 11:08that like he wants to impress people. He
302. 11:10wants to look nice. His shoes are also
303. 11:12very like commonly waiter shoes. They're
304. 11:15not quite sneakers, but definitely not
305. 11:16formal shoes. Someone who's on his feet
306. 11:18a lot, [music] most likely. So, it makes
307. 11:20a lot of sense why they styled this the
308. 11:22way that they did. He looks cool though.
309. 11:23He looks fun. Beginning with the gym
310. 11:25leaders, Salon was one of Ash's new
311. 11:28companions and a connoisseur of
312. 11:29everything. Also, he doesn't flirt like
313. 11:32what Brock did. Well, Brock didn't
314. 11:34flirt. Brock shot his shot every [ __ ]
315. 11:37chance he got. OH, [screaming]
316. 11:40CHILE. OH, I love Oh, I love What I do
317. 11:44not like though is that the shirt is so
318. 11:47[ __ ] tight that it looks like it's
319. 11:49painted on. If you're going to have
320. 11:50cuffs that big, maybe give the bottom of
321. 11:53the shirt a little bit more volume. Just
322. 11:56minor nitpick because I like the pants
323. 11:59cuz these don't fit him as well. I like
324. 12:00the vest. I like the color scheme. And I
325. 12:02like the fire shaped hair. I think that
326. 12:04looks very, very fun. Spicy Fortnite
327. 12:06skin. Stop. Wait, are these the guys
328. 12:07with like the [ __ ] elemental monkeys?
329. 12:09Oh, do they have the monkeys? Wait, are
330. 12:11those the ones that have like nuke
331. 12:13clouds on their heads that evolve into
332. 12:15terrible hairstyles? Oh my god. Like
333. 12:18they paired them perfectly though. I can
334. 12:20see the red monkey with this bot fog.
335. 12:22Like it's a good design though, even if
336. 12:24it's super simple. And now I get why
337. 12:26it's a uniform cuz there's three of
338. 12:27them. [music] Uniforms work really well
339. 12:29if you're doing like a whole gaggle of
340. 12:31NPCs or you're like working with a theme
341. 12:33that requires a lot more cohesion,
342. 12:35especially if they have different
343. 12:36elements. So there's still fire here
344. 12:39while keeping the waiter uniform as a
345. 12:42base. CREST. OH, I love them. Water
346. 12:46types [ __ ] stay winning. Okay, Crest
347. 12:48is so cute. Too bad the monkey looks
348. 12:50like [ __ ] Crest is so cute though. They
349. 12:53look so sweet and their hair is so
350. 12:56pretty and like swoosh. And the [ __ ]
351. 12:59waiter outfit is phenomenal. And that
352. 13:01one they added a bit more wrinkle to the
353. 13:03sleeves so it no longer looks super skin
354. 13:05tight. And his pants are way better
355. 13:08fitted. Again, same uniform but with
356. 13:11some different touches of styling and
357. 13:13color. You can make an entirely new
358. 13:15character. It's actually really, really
359. 13:17easy to do. Don't think that your
360. 13:19character design options are limited if
361. 13:20you have to put characters in a uniform.
362. 13:22It's all about how you style it. And in
363. 13:24this one, the water oozes off the
364. 13:26character, mainly because of the hair,
365. 13:28but also has a very laid-back and open
366. 13:31posture. Too bad he has a [ __ ] monk.
367. 13:34LENORA. OH, [screaming]
368. 13:36OKAY. WE did pay attention to the
369. 13:38Americans. If they were going to make an
370. 13:40American region without a single black
371. 13:42person in it, I would have been like,
372. 13:43"Dude, Miki Hoyo, Jesus." Thank God they
373. 13:47actually paid attention. And she looks
374. 13:50lovely. I love the [ __ ] body type. I
375. 13:52like that she's thicker, much thicker,
376. 13:54not just in body itself, but in
377. 13:56character silhouette. Really bottom
378. 13:59heavy because the hair is huge. It's so
379. 14:02well balanced. Like the pants are
380. 14:04gigantic on the bottom and the hair is
381. 14:06really big on the top. And that actually
382. 14:08makes up for the character body shape
383. 14:10being like an A. And it also [music]
384. 14:12lets you have really big hair without it
385. 14:15feeling like it's super topheavy. Does
386. 14:16that make sense? Color scheme is also
387. 14:18fairly neat. Uh we have a really nice
388. 14:21teal. Looks lovely against that dark
389. 14:23skin tone. By the way, the tan is a
390. 14:25really nice neutral color that ties it
391. 14:27all together. And the orange is nice and
392. 14:29like a nice burnt orange. Nothing super
393. 14:31aggressive because guess what? The bulk
394. 14:34of the thing that makes this design
395. 14:36interesting is the blue contrasting with
396. 14:38that darker skin tone. I like the red
397. 14:40lipstick. I think it looks really neat.
398. 14:42But in general, the thing that makes
399. 14:43this design very very good is how they
400. 14:45played with the shapes. Can you guess
401. 14:47her gym type? She has an apron um slung
402. 14:51over her shoulder. If it was a jacket,
403. 14:54but I'm not seeing any theming, so I'm
404. 14:55going to guess that she's she's probably
405. 14:56a normal type. Normal. Yeah. Okay. I was
406. 14:59right. Good. Berg, that's exactly what I
407. 15:02feel when I look at you. Like, is the
408. 15:04design bad? No, not even a little bit.
409. 15:06But you look like a dirty hippie. I knew
410. 15:08HE WAS THE BUG TYPE CUZ ONLY a bug type
411. 15:11gym leader or a very very openly uh gay
412. 15:14person would wear a belt with a
413. 15:15butterfly on it like that. But the thing
414. 15:17that tells me that this dude is
415. 15:19definitely like gay gay high gay is the
416. 15:22scarf with like this super low V-neck
417. 15:24and that very very like clearcut like
418. 15:27you know that tank top that you see
419. 15:29sometimes parody guys wear that is like
420. 15:32that tank top that's like super super
421. 15:34low on the chest. It's that tank top
422. 15:37with like the scarf on top of it. Gay
423. 15:39shaggy. Chad is terrible. Chad is
424. 15:43terrible. Can I just say that he's a
425. 15:46pretty fashionable dirty hippie, though.
426. 15:48I like his pants and his shoes match
427. 15:50perfect. I don't like the scarf and the
428. 15:53fact that I can see your entire nipple,
429. 15:55my guy. Like, you could breastfeed
430. 15:57someone in that. Look at his sprite.
431. 15:58When you battle in the gym, it gives
432. 15:59more gay. Like, are the idol animations
433. 16:01anywhere? Hold on. Tangent. Whoever in
434. 16:04chat said gay Shaggy, you kind of nailed
435. 16:06it. Yes. Queen slay Buggy Bug. I've seen
436. 16:11so much this character. I've seen so
437. 16:15much of this woman cuz like honestly
438. 16:22she ate like it's such a good design.
439. 16:26Honestly, she does look like a model.
440. 16:28She has the build to be a model. She's
441. 16:30very skinny, looks really tall. She has
442. 16:33like that very like slim athletic figure
443. 16:35that you see a lot on catwalks. Her
444. 16:37dress is incredibly sexy. It's all
445. 16:40cutouts, mama. But it's cutouts done in
446. 16:42such a stylish way that you could
447. 16:44probably think that that's just a normal
448. 16:46like skin color pattern. Also, she has
449. 16:49the Pikachu knockoff of this Jen. I
450. 16:52adore the fact that her hair is tied
451. 16:54with like giant earphone jacks. It's
452. 16:57such a neat touch. The icicle blue eyes
453. 16:59are a great touch. Great contrast to the
454. 17:00yellow. We're still using the plus and
455. 17:02minus colors with the yellow. I like
456. 17:04that the electric gym uh leaders usually
457. 17:06have a similar color scheme. There's
458. 17:08always yellow in it, but like nowadays
459. 17:10it's pivoted more to yellow with teal
460. 17:13and pink or just teal. But back in the
461. 17:16day, it was like red and green. Red and
462. 17:18blue and yellow and black as well.
463. 17:20Definitely fits the model stereotype.
464. 17:22Very elegant, very stylish, very cool.
465. 17:25Clay, oh, I know who your kid is. Your
466. 17:27kid is [ __ ] adorable. I have drawn
467. 17:29your child naked. I'm sorry. That's a
468. 17:30[ __ ] wild out of pocket statement.
469. 17:31And this is the most stereotypical Texan
470. 17:34I've ever seen in my life. Where is his
471. 17:36gun, though? Where is his gun? I made
472. 17:39artwork of Lacy before because I love
473. 17:40the design. But don't worry, I did not
474. 17:42draw her like a [ __ ] child at all. I
475. 17:44don't do that. But I did draw Lacy cuz I
476. 17:46think the design was baller. I had no
477. 17:48idea that this was her dad. I'd never
478. 17:51seen Clay before. And you know what? I
479. 17:54can kind of see it. I see the brows. But
480. 17:56like honestly, 90% of that has got to be
481. 17:59the mother. He must he have gotten with
482. 18:01a nurse joy. Oh my god, you're right. Oh
483. 18:05my god, you're right.
484. 18:07And that's why her name is like Lacy.
485. 18:10Design-wise, I adore what they did with
486. 18:12the silhouette here. I think that they
487. 18:14allowed themselves one one severe
488. 18:17American stereotype for this entire game
489. 18:20and they were like, "Okay, go get it out
490. 18:21of your system." And then Clay happened.
491. 18:22He's like a businessman cowboy. He has a
492. 18:26Rolex and a cell phone and like his
493. 18:28[ __ ] hat is like bedazzled with like
494. 18:31emeralds. He has like the assless chaps
495. 18:33under over a suit and like the suit
496. 18:36still has like the fringes and he still
497. 18:37has like the cowboy shirt on top of it.
498. 18:39It's a really really good fit. It's a
499. 18:41really really weird mashup of themes,
500. 18:42but I'm kind of obsessed about it. Like
501. 18:45it's I'm I'm kind of obsessed with it.
502. 18:47It's great. He's so [ __ ] funny. I
503. 18:50can't quite guess what his type is
504. 18:52though. Is it gun round? OH. [screaming]
505. 18:56OH, AND HIS NAME IS CLAY. YEAH. YEAH.

670. 25:05accents. Excellent use of shapes. The
671. 25:08shape language is not at all
672. 25:09threatening, but there is some slight
673. 25:10intensity even though it's curved in the
674. 25:12skirt and the bow that she's wearing on
675. 25:14the back and on her collar. I would love
676. 25:16to see the back of this outfit. It's
677. 25:18absolutely gorgeous. The gloves are
678. 25:19super cute. This is like goth girlfriend
679. 25:23times a bajillion, you know? It's a
680. 25:25gorgeous, gorgeous [ __ ] character.

693. 25:52though? Like, jokes aside, the suit is
694. 25:55phenomenal. He looks like a human
695. 25:57Greninja. Did they make Greninja based
696. 25:59off this bot flock? Because like this
697. 26:01silhouette is uncanny on the top.

710. 26:33little bit, but the red also does a
711. 26:35really good job. The personality is He's
712. 26:38sitting down, mama. He cannot be [ __ ]
713. 26:40bothered. It's a great design. Too bad
714. 26:43that the elite four for curse hits these
715. 26:46[ __ ] like nobody's business. [music]
716. 26:47These are phenomenal. And I never seen
717. 26:49this before. I have seen the gym leaders
718. 26:53getting butt [ __ ] from here to
719. 26:55Tuesday, but I have never seen these
720. 26:57before. [ __ ] Marshall. Oh, fighting
721. 26:59type, dude. No. What a solid color
722. 27:02scheme. Holy [ __ ] The eyebrows are
723. 27:04powerful. THIS CHARACTER RADIATES POWER.
724. 27:08And it's in the stance. It is in the
725. 27:10shape language. It is in the clothing.
726. 27:12It is in the fact that this dude is
727. 27:14[ __ ] more jacked than a pitle on
728. 27:16steroids. This dude can [ __ ] get it.
729. 27:20He's strong. A punch would send you out
730. 27:22the wall Mr. Incredible style. All
731. 27:24right. It's great. I am obsessed.
732. 27:28Obsessed with the eyebrows. Obsessed
733. 27:30with the [ __ ] hair. The fade is
734. 27:32amazing. I'm sorry. The armbands are
735. 27:35lovely. If he flexes, those are coming
736. 27:37off. Grippers out feet. I really like
737. 27:40the baggy pants, though, because they
738. 27:42really use the square shapes to their
739. 27:44advantage. I've talked about shape
740. 27:45language, and square usually means
741. 27:47strong, sturdy, stubborn as [ __ ] and
742. 27:50also can mean dependable and reliable.
743. 27:54This is the type of thing that like if
744. 27:55you want to make a character that's like
745. 27:58a brick wall emotionally or someone
746. 28:01that's like a bodyguard or a hired goon,
747. 28:04you usually use squares. The best
748. 28:06example I can think of is the bodyguard
749. 28:08for Darla in Cats Don't Dance. That guy
750. 28:12is just a wall. It's a big [ __ ]
751. 28:14square. The accents in these is
752. 28:17phenomenal use of color. Chef kiss. The
753. 28:19skin tones highlights that teal
754. 28:21beautifully. I also really like that his
755. 28:24hoodie zips look like little hammers.
756. 28:26I'm really sad that the [ __ ] Elite 4
757. 28:29gets shelved [music] so hard. They get
758. 28:30no attention and this design is amazing.
759. 28:33Wait, I've seen you before. Wasn't she
760. 28:35in Gen 4? Yeah, she was. So, like they
761. 28:39evolved people like they evolved Pokémon
762. 28:41in these games, don't they? She has
763. 28:43glowed up considerably and I think that
764. 28:45her silhouette is even stronger now than
765. 28:47it was back then. Let's see. Fairy types
766. 28:50are not a thing here. What the [ __ ] are
767. 28:52you? It's such a pretty design though.
768. 28:55Regardless, psychic. Oh, of course it's
769. 28:57psychic. Her hair ribbons are floating.
770. 28:59I love the giant hat. I like that the
771. 29:01hair is framing her body. She still
772. 29:03looks really frail. And I think that
773. 29:05like her posing, being kind of shy,
774. 29:07drawn into herself. The fact that she's
775. 29:09wearing a cape, she's hiding in her hair
776. 29:12does show very like delicate nature.
777. 29:14This is high fee as [ __ ] by the way.
778. 29:16Like this is one of the most feminine
779. 29:18designs I've seen in Pokemon. This is
780. 29:19incredibly girly. It's a very pretty
781. 29:22silhouette. It's wavy. It flows really
782. 29:25nicely, but it's also a little bit
783. 29:26erratic on the bottom because with
784. 29:28psychic types, they can be a little bit
785. 29:29unpredictable. Very nice colors, very
786. 29:32soft, easy to look at, calming, right?
787. 29:35This is a color scheme that I would
788. 29:36describe as very calming, very chill.
789. 29:39It's nothing too saturated, nothing too
790. 29:41bright. Pastels are great for like
791. 29:44making the eye rest a little bit. So if
792. 29:47you want to like make a character design
793. 29:49that's very dainty, very delicate, you
794. 29:51can oftent times use pastel colors in
795. 29:53their outfit or pair even if you want to
796. 29:55to kind of like convey a sense of peace.
797. 29:58She looks very chill, but I'm pretty
798. 29:59sure her team is going to be pretty
799. 30:00difficult to deal with. It's really fun
800. 30:02when they do like characters after a few
801. 30:05years in Pokemon cuz they do change the
802. 30:07design significantly while still
803. 30:09maintaining the original flare. So, I
804. 30:11think she looks absolutely stunning. I'm
805. 30:13obsessed with the fact that she's hiding
806. 30:15not just behind her hair, but behind
807. 30:16another cape, and that her pose is
808. 30:19really like demure, [music]
809. 30:20very graceful, very much I don't know if
810. 30:23I if you should be outside because it
811. 30:25looks like a strong wind is going to
812. 30:26blow you over. Elder Durgen maybe fire

900. 33:33the green color scheme suits him really
901. 33:35well. Especially cuz like most of his
902. 33:37outfit is actually neutrals. He has like
903. 33:39one little blue accent on around his
904. 33:41neck. Uh, and that's it. And the rest of
905. 33:43him is like just dark black, white,
906. 33:45light green. But yeah, good character
907. 33:47design. A lot of intensity in that hair.

1047. 38:54a neat touch as well. His facial
1048. 38:56expression is hella silly. Giant hat
1049. 38:58though. Also very very good big doofy
1050. 39:01shoes. They really played with the
1051. 39:02shapes with this one. It's lovely. Fun
1052. 39:04fact, the battle subway map is based on
1053. 39:06real subway maps. Wait, hold on. Battle
1054. 39:09subway wasn't just a cool slang thing
1055. 39:10you guys were saying. There's an actual
1056. 39:12battle subway. [ __ ] yeah. [laughter]
1057. 39:15But yeah, it's a really, really, really
1058. 39:17baller design. Very strong. DAMN IT. OH,

1077. 39:56Pokemon Gen 5. For Black and White one,
1078. 39:59there's two of these. All right, so
1079. 40:00expect two videos for these. I actually
1080. 40:02really loved it. The Pokemon team really
1081. 40:04shows their strengths when it comes to
1082. 40:05designing characters. Gen 5 was, I
1083. 40:07think, one of their strongest gens by
1084. 40:09[music] far. They have such great
1085. 40:10characters, such fun protagonists, such
1086. 40:12great gym leaders, iconic characters all
1087. 40:15throughout. The [ __ ] villain is
1088. 40:17probably my favorite in terms of how
1089. 40:19[ __ ] goofy he looks. 10 out of 10.
1090. 40:22And it's just been a very enjoyable time
1091. 40:23overall. It was good in Gen 4, but this
1092. 40:26is the gen where I think they really
1093. 40:28started cooking us gourmet meals when it
1094. 40:30came to character designs. The themes
1095. 40:31were all on point. There was one miss in
1096. 40:33the entire gen. And even then, the
1097. 40:35design was good regardless. Everything
1098. 40:37was just really meticulously planned.
1099. 40:39Everyone had really strong silhouette or
1100. 40:40really, really strong theme. Even like
1101. 40:42the few NPCs we saw had really, really,
1102. 40:45really good design. So, I would say Gen
1103. 40:465 is one of the strongest ones we have.
