0:01usually have really really strong
0:03character designs and I mentioned off
0:04hands a few streams ago that I would
0:06like to talk about darkstalkers now if
0:08you guys don't know dark stalkers is a
0:09fighting game that Capcom has declared
0:12dead pretty much been dead and buried
0:14for uh 20 years now and that makes me
0:17sad why does it make me sad because some
0:19of the most iconic uh fighting game
0:22characters come from darkstalkers so
0:24yeah since Capcom has declared this
0:25series you know dead and buried Lily is
0:27coming out of the Grave for spooky
0:29months to say no [ __ ] off you've been
0:33naughty as I mentioned earlier I have an
0:35amazing website that I use for whenever
0:37I need to draw anything from fighting
0:39games but it has every every piece of uh
0:42assets from the from any fighting game
0:45you want ever including Guilty Gear
0:47animations you [ __ ] name it it's all
0:49in here this dude has been updating this
0:51website for like 50 billion years I'm
0:53not joking uh little baby synopsis for
0:57the game if you've never played dark
0:58soccers I've never played dark so might
1:00know about it story Dimitri the lord of
1:02the night decides to hold a tournament
1:04to see which of the world's greatest
1:05monsters are worthy of the title lord of
1:07the night Pyon an alien being who
1:09believes he should rule the darkstalkers
1:10come to Earth to join the frey so it's a
1:13very typical fighting game the the
1:15gimmick with darkstalker similar to
1:16skull girls which I'm pretty sure was
1:18inspired by dark stuckers at least on
1:19some level is that they're all monsters
1:21right I as you guys know I a Primo
1:23papino monster [ __ ] so this is right
1:24up my alley so we're going to start with
1:27the man of the hour himself with Dimitri
1:29maxico the Bulge wave zoom and enhance
1:32man this dude is [ __ ] He's packing
1:35anyway so funny thing about fighting
1:37game characters they usually tend to
1:38have very exaggerated proportions right
1:40if have you seen Soul bad guy that guy
1:42is like a [ __ ] brick [ __ ] house with
1:44giant hands part of this is so
1:46stylistically they look cool the other
1:48part is I think it has something to do
1:50with the animations and the hit boxes
1:52themselves uh so you could just kind
1:53have unique places to land a hit don't
1:55quote me on this I don't play a lot of
1:56fighting games I should have gotten
1:57someone that plays fighting games to
1:59like [ __ ] do this with me but
2:00whatever he is giving vampire I think
2:02it's mainly because of the cape but the
2:04funny thing about this character design
2:05is that his coat is glued to his body
2:08vacuum sucked so are the pants cuz I can
2:10see that dick right there but it's
2:11really funny though right cuz even
2:13though the coat is glued to his body
2:15there's enough volume on it that I can
2:16tell that it's supposed to be a coat
2:18it's getting it's it's getting the
2:20superhero treatment the hair is
2:21atrocious though daddy Dimitri no Yahweh
2:24hands he looks a little bit not super
2:26pale he not really giving that sort of
2:28vampire but it's giving counts which you
2:30know what that's enough that's all you
2:31need count is enough oh my God that's
2:33better that's be the Bulge holy [ __ ]
2:36who's who who keeps drawing the dicks
2:38and dark St suckers holy [ __ ] it's
2:40giving miles
2:42Ed's gameplay and lore he has a
2:45feminization attack that turns guys into
2:47girls and girls into girlier girls um
2:50Capcom why I guess sucking blood from
2:53another dude is gay like he has a bimbo
2:57blast attack apparently this one had no

3:01roids your dick shrivels up and dies

4:33she's not sfist Morgan is actually super

4:41a part of herself uh we'll get to that
4:43later uh so sometimes she can be a
4:45little bit mean she's not usually a
4:47piece of [ __ ] though she has some human
4:48disguises she's besties with Spider-Man
4:51Morgan for me it's one of those
4:52character designs that it's so iconic
4:54that you know who she is at a glance
4:56right Morgan similar to tub is a
4:58character that I could probably draw
4:59from M just because the design is so
5:01unique like all the all the [ __ ]
5:04iterations of Morgan have been tippy top
5:06she is an incredibly sexy character this
5:07is a character that's pure sex appeal
5:09which has led the internet to like
5:11completely uh writing her in a way that
5:13might not exactly go being character oh
5:16thanks so much for this one of my fab
5:17bits about her is that she was the one
5:19to introduce the Japanese to the concept
5:21of succubi was she because the creators
5:24didn't want to make yet another vampire
5:26uh thanks so much for the sub that's
5:27actually a really neat tidbit so yeah
5:28yeah she's a su uh she will
5:32literally or not I don't know if she's a
5:34bon or not she should be the color
5:36combination is always goated as well
5:37green and purple always look good
5:39together they're they're colors that
5:40Clash they don't really work uh you
5:42would think they don't work well
5:43together but if you're using one of them
5:44as an accent the way that Morgan's hair
5:46is it tends to look really nice my
5:48favorite thing about Morgan though is
5:49just the amount of play on shapes they
5:51use a lot of really interesting shapes
5:53like the wings and you know the the how
5:54big her TI her [ __ ] tits and hips are
5:57the leotard the [ __ ] bat ties are
5:59adorable and I desperately desperately
6:01want them Morgan has a [ __ ] ton of art
6:02she's been in a lot a lot of stuff she's
6:04a very well-known character one of my
6:05favorites I would say like God I haven't
6:07drawn her in a hot minute uh but I do
6:09like her a lot Morgan is a succubus who
6:11feeds of any sort of stimulation so she
6:14feeds off of fighting and I assume
6:16platonically hanging out with Spider-Man
6:18oh yeah yeah Spider-Man gives her the
6:19hot goau and she feeds off that look at
6:22look at how gorgeous that is look at the
6:23play on shapes on Morgan right I talked
6:26before about composition in images and
6:29characters and like the composition for
6:30this picture is uh Flawless because the
6:33wings uh and everything points to her
6:35face you would think it points to the
6:37tits but no since the wings are on her
6:38head the that line from the tip of the
6:41wing on her head goes all the way down
6:43to her face to her hairline which is
6:45really cool uh it actually makes you
6:47look right where you're supposed to
6:48instead of at the hips which is where
6:50most people would look because the
6:50leotard is that high cut it's a very
6:53very good character design so iconic we
6:55love iconic Morgan is great goated look
6:57at her sish and G God she's serving so
7:01much it's not even funny I love her so
7:03much oh John uh John uh Concord no
7:07werewolf you know I like werewolves I've
7:09always liked werewolves I think that
7:11they're goated and you know I did I'm
7:13not just saying that because I drove on
7:14the con this week this is a pretty okay
7:16yeah no this is like my favorite type of
7:18werewolf chat first of all wood like
7:21this is a this is a [ __ ] Manimal
7:24that's what you want you want Manimal
7:25right no bulge on this one sad but I
7:27love the [ __ ] huge feet I like that
7:29they're using the actual werewolf legs
7:31if you're going to make something like a
7:32werewolf the more you lean into like the
7:34actual uh monster aspect the better you
7:37need this thing to be feal you need to
7:38[ __ ] look at this thing and be like
7:40okay that is not a normal dog that is
7:43not a normal wolf that is a man that is
7:45going to either uh destroy me under the
7:47full moon or destroy me under the full
7:49moon the color scheme is great this is
7:50more like a traditional werewolf uh
7:52color they draw them Brown a lot in like
7:54ooky spooky but wolves are normally gray
7:56so I think that going with like this
7:57blue gray tone and white works really
7:59well again easy to animate easy to
8:01remember look at that oh my God the
8:03giant hand I do this a lot with musu
8:06when I'm making like uh anything that's
8:08Mamon I did it with urer ring that I
8:09usually give them try and BR them big
8:11hands cuz they kind of resemble Paws
8:13right like those claws could rip you any
8:14one but at the same time they helped to
8:16kind of sell the fact that this is not a
8:18normal human person at all this isn't a
8:19dude in a mask this is an actual monster
8:21like BWB I love the feet the the [ __ ]
8:25legs are amazing what's how how tall is
8:28it tight 6ot one what short I was
8:31expecting a 7 foot monstrosity short but
8:33like they're so it's so he's so good
8:35it's a great design sassy wolf oh my God
8:38yeah yeah wood wood a billion per wood
8:4110 million years wood 10 million
8:45years it's the same design but like one
8:48little twe tweak and art style just
8:50makes it so much hotter is it the Dorito
8:51body it's probably the Dorito body He's
8:53fluffy I want him oh my God he's a twink
8:56why is that twink giving me like giving
8:58High gay though he's judging you for
9:00your fashion
9:01choices I love it love it love it love
9:04it when the devs make unhinged [ __ ] in
9:06the concept art I don't know why but it
9:08feeds my soul give him a [ __ ] bone he
9:11doesn't look intimidating at all in this
9:12art styles oh look at the action lines
9:14on these animations please cuz like when
9:16in his static image he's standing around
9:18but the action lines for the animations
9:20are very much
9:22animal this is like oh no this is a wolf
9:25this isn't actually a man it's a nice
9:27little contrast to how he looks when
9:29he's standing around because it it
9:30really sells the idea that this is a
9:32monster right cuz that's the kind of the
9:33point of darkstalker everything is a
9:35monster so he starts out as like Twinkie
9:37and then becomes a wolf how many games
9:39has this been dude been on he doesn't
9:40seem like he's been in that many but
9:42it's really cool to see a more monstery
9:44looking design as opposed to just you
9:46know I a dude with a wolf head I love
9:49Von lean I do but I think he should be a
9:51little more FAL sometimes I know why
9:53he's not cuz it's more marketable that
9:54way but it's nice to see the um the
9:58actual monster bait of the monster in
10:00the character closing thoughts I love
10:01wolf daddy love his color scheme love
10:03the warm tones on the claws love the
10:05silhouette uh 10 out of 10 wood oh
10:07Felicia my girl I've actually drawn
10:09Felicia before I believe she was raised
10:11by like nuns which is really funny
10:12because if you look at her it's like
10:14she's super naked I she has such a great
10:17design too like she's another one of
10:19those characters that if you see her you
10:20will know who she is immediately you
10:22might not know where she's from or you
10:24might not know her name but she you
10:25would be like oh I've seen her before
10:26because she's just that good I love
10:28Felicia yay
10:31I'm biased I like cat girls cat girls
10:32are kind of my thing so Felicia for me
10:34is like oh Mom Mommy the hair though can
10:37we talk about the
10:39hair oh the N are not oh my God that is
10:42unreal look at her face God she's so
10:45precious similar to Morgan Felicia has a
10:47really good play on shapes although
10:50Felicia's play on shape relies on what I
10:52like to call the disaya school of design
10:54which is making some really big elements
10:56exaggerating so her hands are huge her
10:58feet are huge her hair is gigantic right
11:01that's because those features draw the
11:03eye to them it's a character that is
11:05very much unintentionally sexy you say
11:08play with shapes what do you mean by
11:09that let me explain so when you're when
11:11in in it's an artsy term right when
11:12you're playing with shapes a way to make
11:14a character design interesting is to
11:15make it have a a lot of different PL uh
11:18shapes and Silhouettes when you're
11:19designing a character one of the first
11:21things that you need to keep in mind is
11:23uh what is their silhouette you need to
11:24be able to tell from silhouette alone
11:26what their personality or what their
11:27Vibe is it's it's a pretty common EX
11:29animators do it all the time in terms of
11:31uh Felicia you are playing a lot with
11:33ovals uh the hands are ovals the feet
11:35are ovals her hair is oval for example
11:37if you want to make something look
11:38friendly you make it very round if you
11:39want's evil you make it very pointy so
11:41on and so forth it's a very common thing
11:43with character design I think that dark
11:45stalkers excels at it uh Felicia's
11:47friend shaped so she's very round I
11:48don't think I see a single hard angle on
11:50this character except for the claws and
11:51even then those are rounded so Felicia
11:53is really great in terms of shapes the
11:55color scheme is also dope her skin is
11:57not as light as someone like Morgan it's
11:58a little bit darker ER but that's
11:59because she has high contrast with her
12:01fur being white on her legs and uh her
12:03arms the ears are also very funny cuz it
12:06looks like a headband it's not they are
12:07her actual ears but it does look like a
12:09headband I like that her hair is such a
12:11vibrant shade of blue though cuz that's
12:13also very eye-catching if you can't make
12:14something interesting through shapes
12:15make it through color if you can't make
12:16it through color make it through texture
12:18this is a fashion rule by the way not
12:19really character design she also has a
12:20lot of movement there's a lot of flow to
12:22this design the composition to this
12:23illustration itself is very flowy her
12:25tail is super long it's wrapping around
12:26her she has those little like um loose
12:29bits from her hair that also frame her I
12:31also like that they use pink like bright
12:34bright pink on her claws and the toe
12:36beans because that also adds a lot of
12:38contrast to the character but yeah
12:39Felicia's design is pretty gooded I
12:41would say she's not dressed though
12:42that's the thing right this is this is
12:43what I like to call an example of a
12:45horny design that isn't super on the
12:48nose she's barely dressed sure but is
12:51that the first thing you notice when you
12:52look at her not really no you notice wow
12:55her hands are big or wow that's a lot of
12:57hair her being at least to me her being
13:00like basically naked is an afterthought
13:02because I'm mainly looking at the points
13:03of interest that the designer probably
13:05wanted me to look at she's a cat though
13:07she doesn't need to wear anything it
13:09kind of leads into the uh feal nature of
13:11the character which I think is sweet
13:13she's very muscular she has really large
13:15uh uh breasts but you can't really tell
13:17because her shoulders are pretty wide
13:18also look at her God she's so cute the
13:21big green eyes like her eyes are also
13:23very innocent despite the fact that
13:24she's like you know naked which is great
13:27very Kitty much cute this is about this
13:29is actually a really good way to make a
13:30character that's like a monster girl
13:32without going full furry she's so
13:35[ __ ] precious look at
13:38her oh my God Felicia she's so cute so
13:42so cute notice that in all of her
13:44movements they are all incredibly quick
13:46and fluid like there is uh this is a
13:49lightweight character for sure if she
13:51was in modern fighting games she would
13:52probably be classified as light uh
13:53lightweight skiy super playful super
13:56fluid a great character designed and a
13:58great use of sh
13:59and fluidity in a character good
14:04job okay this is a samurai I'm guessing
14:07it's like an undead zombie type of vibe
14:09though curs Warrior this he's a normal
14:11guy no it's like is it the armor that's
14:13cursed or is it him
14:15oh that oh my God no mouth teeth teeth
14:20on the armor give it to me I want that
14:23armor I oh my God I want it on my body
14:25right now would I die immediately yes
14:26maybe but like imagine imagine he can
14:28Chomp off some one's head I don't know
14:30if you guys noticed but there is spikes
14:32on the back of his shoulders where the
14:33armor connects that makes it look like
14:35he's just wearing a demon head that's so
14:38cool this is also the [ __ ] Samurai
14:40armor I've ever seen and I've made
14:41[ __ ] ones like there's no pants that
14:43dick is free and swinging on their there
14:44I can [ __ ] guarantee it though it
14:46might not be the most interesting
14:47character design out there but it has
14:49some interesting
14:50tidbits uh it's a good design I would
14:53say mainly because it has a really uh
14:56eye-catching point of interest that
14:57being the head on his torso the armor is
15:00haunted whoever wears it is a slave to
15:02it oh [ __ ] it's one of those like crazy
15:04Japanese items thanks so much for the
15:05follow that like if you put it on or
15:07interact with it it enslaves your soul
15:09also [ __ ] these are designs that you
15:10can't put a lot of stuff in them back in
15:12the day guys remember when video games
15:14used to be like what 10 megabytes or
15:16less and these were in arcade machines
15:18right like these weren't even in
15:20consoles these were in arcade machines
15:22so if you wanted to have an interesting
15:23cast you needed to make it super diverse
15:26these for me are the precursors to like
15:28got
15:29because they are characters that
15:31basically sell on design alone when
15:33you're playing a video game like this
15:35when you like go to an arcade with your
15:36friends you're like [ __ ] what 10
15:37years old M you see you don't play that
15:40you don't pick the character because of
15:41the move set cuz you don't know what it
15:42is you pick the character from what it
15:44looks like it's like oh [ __ ] a badass
15:47samurai looking ass [ __ ] with a
15:48face in his stomach give me I'm sorry
15:50but like little boys love that [ __ ] it's
15:52genius I wish that more video games did
15:54this I know that right now the current
15:56Trend with design is to make things busy
15:59but I do think that there is an art form
16:00to making designs that are simple but
16:02eye catching this one's definitely it I
16:04feel though you chat is correct in one
16:06sense if it was not for the face on his
16:07torso I would not think about this
16:09character twice it would just be like oh
16:11a samurai dude okay but it has a [ __ ]
16:13schn coming out from between his tipples
16:15[ __ ] that's very eye-catching it's very
16:18cool it's very oh she it's very very
16:20cool also the armor is [ __ ] he's like
16:22cheeks bear under that look at the
16:24conert r this is actually really really
16:25cool uh you can tell that this dude
16:27knows his [ __ ] [ __ ] because I can see
16:29the cubes I can see the cubes in the
16:31background to give that helmet volume
16:33because that [ __ ] is so hard to draw so
16:35like when you are drawing items for a
16:37character even clothing especially stuff
16:39that's bulky the best thing you can do
16:41is draw a cube around it and then draw
16:43from there cuz that's going to tell you
16:44where the volume should be this is this
16:46dude knows a [ __ ] the face laughs too
16:49that's so dope the fact that a lot of
16:51the attacks rely on the face on the
16:52armor is so clever too because that
16:54tells you that the one that's actually
16:55pulling the calling the shots is the is
16:57the armor not him it's off it's [ __ ]
16:59dope final thoughts on Samurai I love
17:02the [ __ ] face on his torso I like
17:04that it's basically an Oni this is
17:06[ __ ] [ __ ] Samurai armor and I might
17:07steal this Roku if I do [ __ ] need it
17:10a lord
17:11Raptor oh my God lizard person is it a
17:13lizard person or is it a zombie zomie me
17:16immediately oh my God I saw a raptor and
17:18I fought lizard person okay first of all
17:21why is he lowkey serving fif there's a
17:23lot of Pizzaz and a lot of movement to
17:26this character which is ironic because
17:28zombies are usually pretty stiff so
17:30giving so much fluidity to a character
17:32like this takes a takes a decent amount
17:34of thinking behind the design okay yeah
17:36he's definitely giving rockstar I see
17:38the British flag tips me off the fact
17:40that this is a rock fan okay again dis
17:42guia School of Design right his [ __ ]
17:45vertebrae are massive the the [ __ ]
17:47feet are gigantic the hands are gigantic
17:49this is the same type of anatomy that I
17:51feel like if they stylize it a little
17:52bit more Billy would have in Zen lless
17:54tall lanky kind of really wide shoulders
17:57super skinny cuz like I mean he's dead
17:58right right I've noticed a lot with
18:00darkstalkers the color palette seems to
18:02lean either very heavy cold or very
18:05heavy warm with an accent from the
18:06opposing side so like this is a very
18:08cold character uh color scheme with some
18:12warm accents mainly like the gloves and
18:16the feet and also the Union Jack on his
18:19uh on his thigh there a lot also a lot
18:22of these characters I don't I don't know
18:23if I'm right here people who are fans of
18:25fighting games please tell me I think
18:26the reason why they had such limited
18:27color palettes was also because of the
18:29pixel Arch they couldn't do anything
18:30that was like super complicated so they
18:32had to really watch it with the colors
18:35uh but for the actual designs though I
18:37feel like this works I've always said
18:38that when it comes to color work uh less
18:40is more so I think for me the perfect uh
18:44amount of colors to put on a character
18:46is four you don't need more color
18:48because when the more colors you start
18:50adding the more places your eyes are
18:51going to look to and it's going to be
18:53distracting it's a lanky [ __ ] like
18:55it's a zombie it's so [ __ ] dead but
18:57at the same time it has a playfulness to
18:59it that tells you that this is a silly
19:01dude it's a great I've mentioned this
19:03before right how creat how limitation
19:05breeds creativity they had a limitation
19:07of not that much memory not that much
19:09pixel space to work with and needing
19:10really precise animations uh so they
19:13overcame that limitation by making
19:15designs that were very wacky and
19:17eye-catching with just a few things
19:20amazing amazing work really good I like
19:22I would pick this character on looks
19:23alone he looks so silly I love him so
19:25much a addition holy [ __ ] it's like a
19:28[ __ ] the head on top of the guitar
19:29that's so [ __ ] funny look at that God
19:32the artist that did the [ __ ] is like oh
19:34my
19:35God no ass well no it's a SK it's a
19:38zombie he's dead what do you mean ass
19:40where do you want that cake to be I love
19:42these type of streams currently in
19:44Nostalgia mode I miss this series I
19:47never played this and I miss this series
19:48and I'm glad you do thank you because I
19:50feel like going back and talking about
19:52old design work is important cuz this
19:55[ __ ] Inspire is for me it's good
19:56inspiration for work but it's also fun
19:58to go back and look at this stuff and
19:59see how design has evolved Through The
20:01Years tell me that this doesn't look
20:02like a Sprite ey YouTuber would use to
20:04speak Lord Raptor here today's video is
20:06about how erotic justice has woke
20:08garbage wave Sho you leave erotic
20:11Justice alone oh that's so silly yeah
20:14this dude is very slapstick I love that
20:16and like fighting games specifically
20:17need to have really fast animations so
20:19they don't have really big frame counts
20:20for example I have a lot of the skull
20:22girls animations because I like to go
20:23through them it might seem like they
20:25have a lot of frames they don't they
20:26just run at really really high frame
20:28rates and that's because they need to
20:30balance animations uh with every
20:32character against every character making
20:34a fighting game takes for [ __ ] ever
20:36because with every unit that you add you
20:37have to do balancing and that's part of
20:38that is in the animation work Raptor
20:41freaking balling oh yeah final thoughts
20:43this character is Goofy as [ __ ] I love
20:45his Vibe I could tell what his
20:46personality was and just by looking at
20:47him this is masterful character design
20:49good job Dark Star look next oh my God
20:51what is this Yummy Mummy a that is not a
20:55mummy that's a Golem that's like a whole
20:56sarcophagus came to life and grew
21:00arms so if you know like this is this is
21:02definitely like like a sillier take on a
21:04mummy I know a lot about mummification
21:06because I was one of those Egypt nerds
21:08growing up I was like I was that kid a
21:10mummy by design should be desiccated
21:12should be super skinny cuz it has no
21:14moisture to mummify a corpse you kind of
21:17need to suck all the water out of it
21:18otherwise the bacteria in your body will
21:20make it decompose so the fact that this
21:22dude is so buff tells me two things one
21:25they didn't give a [ __ ] they just wanted
21:26to make a musly men mummy two that's all
21:29bandages in there it's it's it's like a
21:31stuffed bra of bandage he's just been
21:33wrapped over 50,000 times and he has

22:32not very easy to see and they would
22:34probably not be very easy to see in the
22:35Sprite either but you can tell what it
22:37is from the Egyptian mask from the fact
22:39that it's like white and the the accents
22:43on it like Egypt has a lot of very
22:46specific shapes they used in ancient
22:48Egypt uh to decorate themselves and they
22:50use a lot of angles they use a lot of
22:52straight lines a lot of rectangles a lot
22:54of prisms and a lot of triangles so this
22:56dude is incredibly recognizable as a
22:58made just from the headpiece alone and
23:01the armbands are also great I have to
23:03imagine that this is a heavy hitter this
23:05is the dude that he he literally if he
23:07doesn't [ __ ] face plant on you I
23:08don't I want my money back dark suers oh

27:51designs relies on the fins and they did
27:52great because they frame his body they
27:54help the action line that already tells
27:57me everything I need to know know it's
27:58an attractive fish man super webbed
28:00fingers really long claws you can tell
28:02how he fights just like out of glance I
28:05really like that they used a warm shade
28:07of green so green is normally a cool
28:09tone color it always is but if you add
28:12yellow to Green you get like lime green
28:15which is a warmer green that means that
28:17his color palette is a little bit on the
28:18warmer side in general but then they
28:20actually slapped a very warm tone on
28:22there with the orange on the fins which
28:23is good cuz it means that your eye
28:25immediately goes up to the action line
28:27from the fins right tied up to his face
28:29which is like a cream color it's not a
28:30cool toned white it's a warm toned white
28:32it works so well it's a very simple
28:35design but as most of these have been
28:37incredibly eye-catching he has a wife
28:39and a ugly child like I like the design
28:43for this but the CH that child o is that

31:13all the characters in dark stalkers
31:15animate really well because the
31:17designers really knew how to play with
31:18shapes I've said this 50 times in this
31:20video and I'm going to keep repeating it
31:22it's such a good use of it and such a
31:24good use of silhouette that I'm genely
31:25not surprised at all that the characters
31:27in dark soccers animated as well as they
31:28did I think if a woman made Victor yeah
31:30she would have made something like this
31:32dude I love this that's [ __ ] dope
31:35another thing the big hands right like
31:37you can tell where the attacks land from
31:38if they don't have a weapon in fighting
31:40games they don't tend to fighting games
31:42don't usually have weapons it usually
31:43like [ __ ] fist so I don't know if you
31:45guys noticed uh I think I did notice
31:47this while I was playing Street Fighter
31:486 characters in Street Fighter 6 have
31:51slightly bigger hands and feet than
31:53normal humans do and that's because they
31:56want to draw attention to that because
31:57those are your weapons right it's these
32:00fists and these feet and Frankenstein
32:02having really big hands and feet makes
32:04sense like this is a dude that was
32:05stitched together ironically enough
32:07mainly warm color palette is that a nod
32:09to the OG Frankenstein being green who
32:12knows but I think it works though like
32:15his skin is a very cool tone but I think
32:17they wanted mainly to uh breathe a
32:20little bit more life into this character
32:21cuz they we already have a lot of cool
32:22tone characters in this cast and
32:24Frankenstein was originally green I also
32:26really like the gloves and I like that
32:28he's missing a sleeve that kind of ties
32:31back to the whole uh stitch together
32:33concept because it looks like his
32:34shoulder blade his entire delt and Hell
32:38part of his PCS was stitched on that
32:40just kind of reminds you what his deal
32:41is without you having to show 50,000
32:44Stitch marks all over his body because
32:45again you can't add details like that
32:47back in the day his bolts are actually
32:49pretty high up on his head the O the OG
32:51uh Frankenstein had his bolts on his
32:54neck they put these on the actual sides
32:56of his Temple and that's why his his
32:57hair kind of looks like a banana uh but
33:00I think that works though cuz it tells
33:01you it's Frankenstein without you need
33:02to look too closely oh man oh gigantic
33:04brick [ __ ] house again good use of Cubes
33:06very blocky there's a lot of block in
33:09these character designs again easier to
33:11animate if you have simple
33:13shapes nothing nothing [ __ ] ruins an
33:17animation Victor doesn't have cake it's
33:20not even a bakery he has a bread factory
33:22in his back pocket hell yeah so like
33:25nothing ruins animation more than
33:27inconsistent see uh if you're doing
33:29handdrawn animations with all of these
33:30were by the way all these were frame by
33:32frame pixel art you need to keep your
33:34shapes consistent or things are going to
33:36jump around frame by frames the way that
33:38uh animations work if you have a team
33:40you have someone that says key frames
33:42and then you have someone that in
33:43between for you with fighting games as I
33:45said before you can't use a lot of
33:47frames so consistency is so so important
33:50if you simplify the shapes it's much
33:52easier to animate this [ __ ] much much
33:53easier the bolts on the neck I think is
33:55under copyright what really it's giving
33:57uh Ro Rog in a little bit it's like
34:00Undead Tim why am I starting to be
34:02attack to this Frankenstein cuz he
34:04[ __ ] pulls I do like that that's so
34:06cool I said before the size of his hands
34:09and feet are a play probably on the way
34:11that he fights and I was right almost
34:13all the characters that have exaggerated
34:14features you set exaggerated features in
34:16their move set and you'll notice the
34:18[ __ ] pixel art for this it's pretty
34:20straightforward animation his move set
34:22isn't super complicated but at the same
34:24time he is pretty animated like he's not
34:27stiff the idol for the character it just
34:29kind of plays on the fact that he's huge
34:31which is great again fighting game
34:33characters normally don't have weapons
34:35so they will use their body drawing
34:37attention to a part of his body that is
34:39actually doing the attack when you have
34:41a limited number of frames limited
34:42number of memory and limited number of
34:44colors you can use in details is a great
34:46way to animate the character and over
34:48animate the character just enough so
34:50that the input for the attack works I
34:53want to motorboat him no booty cheeks I
34:57want to get out of the lab but the sound
34:59of my butt cheeks clapping keeps giving
35:00me away there it
35:02is that's how that's how I want to
35:04suffocate my enemies chat this feels
35:07something burple would do booty booty

35:15Factory yeah I heard he was designed by
35:18a woman who was into ass oh I love that
35:20this dude is packing so much masculinity
35:22that the woman version was is pretty
35:24androgynous the tits are out dude if he
35:26slaps you he you go to Jupiter and if he
35:28claps you with those cheeks you're
35:30[ __ ] getting buried the next day and
35:32that was Victor um really really good
35:33silhouette very very easy to Anime in a
35:36good way very much appreciate the
35:38details on the stitching being a
35:40different color so it's easier to
35:47see like there's always a robot in these
35:49games I don't know if you guys remember
35:51like the that stereotype from like the
35:53Indiana Jones types characters that
35:55there's like a golden idol they did in
35:57aot
35:58I feel like that is that Idol come to
35:59take revenge on all the stupid dumb [ __ ]
36:03adventurers that tried to pick it out of
36:04its tomb stop picking me up you're
36:06ruining my house I'm going to kick you
36:08in the nuts again this one it's pretty
36:10clearcut for a robot it's fairly simple
36:12in design so robotic stuff is tricky
36:15right I can't draw machine stuffs or
36:17[ __ ] but I can tell you this much if you
36:19want to make something look mechanical
36:20the best thing you can do is sigment it
36:22so this has very clear segments it has a
36:24segment for its forearms it has a
36:27segment for shoulder big shoulder it has
36:29segments for the hands the thighs the
36:33the uh feet usually what you should do
36:35is you leave space for the joints
36:37because that's the part of the body that
36:39has the most movements like your legs
36:41Bend at the knee and bend at the hip so
36:43you need to have a segment there to
36:45allow the character movement if you add
36:47mechanical details in the in those parts
36:49like those little like it looks like
36:51they're like almost uh Springs in a way
36:54that sells robot already without you
36:55having to do a ton of detail work for it
36:57and keep it a very simple face this
36:59looks like a robot kind of looks like
37:00the face for the machine where you could
37:02trade in for ancient [ __ ] at breath of
37:04the wild if I'm not mistaken this is
37:05what makes me mad says it's from Mexico
37:07but it's based on Dogo clay figures from
37:09Japan yeah this isn't very Mexican if
37:11you wanted
37:12Mexican one of the most recognizable
37:14bits in Mexican archaeology other than
37:17you
37:17know is
37:20UHA Thea heads which were I think mck in
37:24origin I don't know if you guys remember
37:26uh Legends of the Lost Temple that that
37:28Nickelodeon show that had a masket
37:30calleda that was like a head they should
37:33have made it that if you're going to
37:33give it a Mexican name CU that name is
37:35Mexican give it a Mexican Vibe as well
37:38it gives robot without doing too much
37:40extra work like this kind of reminds me
37:42of samus's power suit in a way big
37:44shoulders uh but it's much more uh
37:47mechanical in nature mainly because it
37:49doesn't really feel like a person in a
37:50suit and also things of note this is a
37:53monotone color scheme for the most part
37:55uh this a Char this design relies on
37:58contrast uh when it comes to its color
38:01from the gold on its body and then
38:03having contrasting aets in the joints in
38:06the black uh lines of the joints I think
38:08that you can make characters that are
38:10monotone but if you're going to make
38:12characters that are monotone rely on
38:13contrast to draw the eye uh it's going
38:15to be much easier for people to
38:18understand what your color scheme for
38:19your character is and what the vibe is
38:20if you're using contrast look at tub tub
38:23has like two colors that looks so dope
38:25though this character almost looks like
38:27it's in 3D but again it's very simple
38:30shapes this is very easy to animate
38:32right like it's circles and uh circles
38:35with some few straight lines it's stuff
38:38that if you sit down and try and animate
38:39this you're not going to have too much
38:40trouble because it's stuff that you can
38:41almost pop it yeah he looks 3D also cuz
38:44he's segmented it's very clever so if
38:46you're going to have a robot character
38:47like this I'm actually really glad
38:48looking at these character animations
38:49that his he actually has weapons when it
38:51comes to fighting game characters I
38:52think the only ones that can pull out
38:53crazy weapons are the robot ones this
38:55guy has like the chainsaw saw the L
38:58stuff that comes out of his feet stuff
39:00that comes out of his hands that's the
39:02thing that gives robot to me if it's
39:04moving and it's usually like if you'll
39:06notice the character himself barely
39:08moves when he's attacking unlike Felicia
39:10that had very fluid animations cuz cat
39:12this is a robot this is stiff so all of
39:14his attacks kind of rely on him eating
39:17something at you and if he uses Mobility
39:19it's going to be mobility in a way
39:20that's very static like that like the
39:22floating it's very very clever but yeah
39:25final thoughts um it's a really cool
39:27character I wish it had a Japanese name
39:29instead of a Mexican one cuz that is not
39:30a Mexican uh statue other than that
39:33though it's such clean character work it
39:35only has two colors I am my designer
39:37brain is happy with this the pelvis hook
39:39be on I know it's Pyon leave me alone so
39:42we can't have a monster or anything
39:44without having an elemental character
39:46and fire tends to be the most uh used
39:52element when it comes to making
39:53Elemental designs probably because fire
39:55is really a it's fun to watch and it's
39:57also a fun to sit it's fun to sit it's
39:58fun to light fires I'm sorry like
40:00there's a pyom Myck child in all of us
40:01so it has a lot of motion fire moves a
40:04lot you could use water as well but
40:05water I feel would not hit as hard
40:07there's nothing quite as painful as a
40:09burn I would say and I feel like making
40:11for a fighting game character fire good
40:14uh also poor Victor Frankenstein hates
40:16fire so o it's really cool though it's
40:19really really cool because this is
40:21basically just a giant hulking Man made
40:22out of fire it's it's pretty
40:24straightforward it's about as
40:25straightforward as it gets there's not
40:27time much much to say about the design
40:28but I do like how they played with the
40:29fire saave they look like solar flares
40:31the surface of the sun isn't solid it's
40:33kind of like magma it's like gas is
40:34burning and combusting and [ __ ] it makes
40:36a lot of energy that's where solar
40:37flares come from I think it's cool
40:39because it kind of gives the if you know
40:41anything about uh solar flares in
40:42physics it gives the idea that he's
40:45storing up energy it's about to [ __ ]
40:47snap it's going to collapse on your ass
40:50he is going to make [ __ ] lose it and
40:52it's going to be everyone's problem I
40:54love that I really love that and fire is
40:56also very fun to draw there's a lot of
40:57really cool shapes you can do this this
41:00is a primarily warm tone character but
41:02also a fun fact when Fire Burns really
41:04hot it turns blue so they do add some
41:06cool colors here and there to offset
41:08that which I think works really well
41:10it's plasma yeah it's plasma Final
41:12Fantasy horns oh no what did they do to
41:14my boy I feel like the older
41:16illustrations have a lot more charm uh
41:19mainly because the sketchy lines add a
41:21lot uh of fluidity to these types of
41:24illustrations when you're making
41:25something like an elemental you should
41:27not use really blocky shapes cuz has a
41:30Pyon skin in Street Fighter 5 it's
41:32banned from tournament play why also fun
41:35fact this character must have been a
41:36[ __ ] to animate if you've ever animated
41:38fire I have it's a pain in the ass right
41:40cuz it's very unpredictable you have to
41:42make it it has a logic to it but it's a
41:45logic that's not very easy to make sense
41:46so whoever animated this dude probably
41:47did a really good job it's banned
41:49because the opponent can't see the
41:50character's limbs ah let's look at the
41:52animations uh cuz I feel like this one
41:53might have been a pain in the ass to yep
41:55my condolences to the poor animator that
41:57had to tackle this character so making
41:59those pixel effects they're really fun
42:01to make but they have a science behind
42:03them I feel like this might have burnt
42:05off a few eyeballs oh my God that's it's
42:07very pretty it's absolutely beautiful
42:09but like holy [ __ ] the animator is bous
42:11I can guarantee you this was the hardest
42:12thing to animate in the entire game it's
42:14a very simple design it relies a lot on
42:16fluidity oh that punch is beautiful also
42:18it relies a lot on action lines for the
42:20animations it looks great it looks
42:22really really good oh my animator
42:24[ __ ] brain hurts just looking at this
42:26like I good animation exercise would be
42:28to break down one of these Sprites and
42:29redo it but um Su if you're going to do
42:32that yeah final thoughts on pyron though
42:35a tricky character to animate for sure I
42:36love the concept I like the solar flares
42:38a lot I I genuinely like that it's one
42:41color but you can tell what his deal is
42:43from a glance which is basically what
42:45you all you need to know thanks so much
42:46for the follow and what you need to know
42:47is fire hot fire the burn hell yeah okay
42:51so with these other games I'm not going
42:52to go to the characters that uh this is
42:54this is dark sters 2 uh we're going to
42:57go with characters that are new right if
42:58we've already seen the character I'm not
43:00revisiting it we're going to go with new
43:01though Dono bamban oh Fabio dude the
43:06hair oh that's so cute who is this child
43:09that he's protecting I want to protect
43:10her oh he's a d okay that's like uh if
43:13I'm not mistaken if my monster [ __ ]
43:15lore is correct that's a half vampire
43:17yes he's so cool okay so this is a game
43:19that's a little bit more modern I don't
43:21know how many years passed between the
43:22first dark suers and this one but
43:24they're sticking to their roots of
43:26making really eye-catching with simple
43:28designs this dude has three design
43:30elements four if you count the fetus and
43:32they're making really good use of them
43:34they're really big
43:35beads the [ __ ] pants and the braid
43:39right like it's it's a very simple
43:41design as have most of the darkstalkers
43:42ones beenin but it works really well
43:44because this is giving like what monk he
43:47looks like a JoJo character he does
43:48again the [ __ ] disgu school of
43:50character design right which is Big
43:52elements stuff that's really
43:53eye-catching stuff that's really simple
43:55this guy kind of sells that right right
43:57the child is really sweet he's trying to
43:59protect her I can tell out a glance I
44:01love his weapon this is one of the few
44:02characters that I've seen in dark soers
44:04that actually has a weapon no pants just
44:06skirt B oh it's a skirt okay it's just
44:09that tight okay okay yeah so far this is
44:11the most human looking one besides uh
44:13Dimitri and well Morgan is pretty
44:14monstery he kills monsters like he's a
44:16monster hunter okay I didn't really get
44:18that Vibe looking at him I he does give
44:19the vibe of protector though strong
44:21Warrior and whatnot that does that does
44:23read in the character look some of this
44:25stuff um
44:27when it comes to designing characters
44:28might not translate well At a Glance you
44:31should do your best to try and make a
44:33character uh and make a character's
44:36personality known at a glance but
44:37sometimes you can't do it the amount of
44:39fluidity a character has usually you can
44:40tell it by the illustration if a
44:42character is really stiff or it's going
44:43to be like a really heavy hitter you can
44:45tell because they're Illustrated in a
44:46way that's really stiff this dude looks
44:48like he has a lot of flexibility he
44:50looks like he can move the sword is also
44:52amazing uh I like that the child is
44:54featured prominently in every single one
44:55of these like she's really cute too and
44:57I don't know if you guys will notice the
44:57kit has an opposing color scheme to his
44:59he has a warm color scheme she has a
45:01cold color scheme she has warm toned
45:03hair but the main thing that your eyes
45:05go to is the skirt which is blue so
45:07having them having opposing color
45:08schemes works very well mainly because
45:11you need contrast and that's like the
45:13thing he's trying to protect you will
45:14end up looking at the kid just from the
45:16color contrast alone very clever very
45:18clever JoJo pose oh yeah since the kid
45:21is part of his character design in a way
45:23they had to keep the same consistent
45:25rules for coloring but you just in verse
45:27the palette that's allowed and that's
45:28actually a really really good way to
45:30make character designs that complement
45:32each other for example I'm watching uh
45:34rezo right I've met the maides I've met
45:37uh REM and RAM they're so cute and they
45:40have opposing color schemes they have
45:41pink and blue each one of them has their
45:44hair hair color in accessories in their
45:45outfit particularly their headband so
45:47Dre has pink in her headband dram has
45:50blue in her headband it's little stuff
45:52like that that kind of ties characters
45:53together as a cohesive unit just by
45:56color you don't need to do this with
45:57silhouette exactly you can do it with
45:59the color just to show that a character
46:00is part of a unit there's a lot of
46:02fluidity to the character in general
46:04like the hair helps so does like the
46:06beads and the skirt pretty uh pretty
46:08good character design overall love the
46:10color scheme love the shapes especially
46:12the beads God that's so cool love how
46:14fluid it looks and I really like the
46:15animations and I like that he has a
46:16weapon it's fun to see weapons in the in
46:18these fighting games that's another
46:19thing I love about this website this
46:21this an older version this website is
46:23really [ __ ] cool because it tells you
46:25everything about all the lore so this is
46:26the the companion unit to the last one
46:28that we saw this an older version I
46:30think a mainly called uh color scheme

47:41I love her because there's a real
47:43playfulness to this character similar to
47:45Felicia but it's a playfulness that's a
47:47little bit more uh more threatening cuz
47:50her dude those claws be packing some
47:52damage I'm sorry she could swipe at you
47:54and destroy your entire life she has a
47:56similar thing to bikin from GG where she
47:58has Gadgets in her sleeve including
47:59giant claws she just has normal hands
48:02okay okay also I look at the colors like
48:04Z Dead zombie primarily cool toned but
48:07they added a lot of warmth with the
48:08yellow and the plum of her outfit to
48:11kind of contrast how cold the character
48:12is uh otherwise I think that she would
48:15have been a little bit too monotony for
48:16my taste but I really like the plum the
48:19shades of pink that makes her seem a
48:20little bit more alive but just enough so
48:23that the character is not boring to look
48:25at okay yeah you guys are right uh she
48:27can move those at will but she does seem
48:28to have normal hands underneath this is
48:30a character that she's very cute it's
48:31sexy but cute at the same time I don't
48:33quite know how they did it with this one

55:32expecting but I like the wings are
55:34really cute and the back of the thing is
55:35really cute the hair is great when uh
55:38it's I think that short hair for this
55:39character was a great choice uh mainly
55:41because you want the attention to focus
55:43on the rest of her body because of the
55:44bug features this is a bodysuit which
55:46for a fighting game is great but the
55:48details of the bodysuit in the uh
55:50patterns and the and the fur really
55:53really sells bead this is really giving
55:54beads for me it's so C cute I'm going to
55:57[ __ ] cry honey bee lovely would love
56:00this person which is really funny right
56:02you would expect a be character to have
56:03a very heavy yellow color scheme but
56:05they decided to go against that and lean
56:07more to flower colors specifically lilac
56:10which is great because bees as you guys
56:12know are pollinators and they often are
56:14drawn to flowers giving her very like
56:16soft flower colors while making the
56:18yellow and accent ofstead is a great
56:20spin on B without going full piss yellow
56:22in your eyeball for fighting game it's a
56:24great touch it really is I really like
56:26this oh bonky I really like her I really
56:29really do like I'd never seen this
56:31character before this I think I have
56:32probably important knowing me but the
56:34eyes are the cutest thing about this
56:35character the eyes are the thing that oh
56:37bony attacks the eyes are the thing that
56:39tell me you can tell that her attack
56:40method is with the ass or the kneecaps
56:42cuz that's like the sharp bits
56:46friends the eyes are fake oh my God are
56:48her actual eyes the ones on top of her
56:50head I love that her entire face is fake

57:44if a beast stings you it dies it Stinger
57:47is barbed so when they pull their
57:49stinger out when they pull away from the
57:51person that they stung it rips out their
57:54organs so the fact that she stung this
57:55dude and died immediately and just was
57:57just reborn as another bee is the
57:58funniest thing ever final thoughts on
58:00this one though I love her I've
58:01definitely I'm so sure I've seen por of
58:03this lth okay so I'm surprised that
58:07Lilith wasn't in the first game Lilith
58:09if I recall correctly she's a part of
58:11Morgan she's a part of Morgan's soul
58:13that was like split up into another
58:14person so she and Morgan have an
58:16identical design except for a few key
58:19features the color scheme is nearly
58:22inverted and uh she is not nearly as
58:26overtly sexy as Morgan is so Lilith is
58:29cuter Lilith has a very cute uh body
58:31type also this is a great way to show a
58:33character that has uh adult Anatomy but
58:37is still very cute this is how you draw
58:39a petite woman she has giant hips look
58:40at the hips but she's almost flat right
58:43other than that her design is identical
58:44to Morgan's right down to the outfit
58:46being very similar Morgan has a heart in
58:48her bodysuit but like Lilith does not
58:50have the cleavage for that Lilith no
58:52Lilith has no Bubba duas she's a very
58:54attractive character but it's a more
58:56Dole sexuality it's not baba boom in
58:57your face it's just soft this is like a
58:59perfect example of flat is Justice her
59:02wings I feel are a little bit on the
59:04sharper side especially on the ends they
59:06both have the same wings that come out
59:08of their heads and hips I really like
59:10the use of red in this it makes her look
59:12more monstery than Morgan almost because
59:15Lilith if you guys know your Bible lore
59:17she was like the first woman ever
59:19created before Eve and uh she became a
59:23demon sucubus almost uh because she
59:26did not want to be subservient to Adam
59:28so she was like no [ __ ] you and then she
59:30went to Bow the devil I feel like they
59:31could have gone very impish with this
59:33character and would have also worked but
59:35her being more innocent serves just as
59:37well she might she might be the reason
59:39as to why Morgan somehow feels like she
59:41lacks some confidence because Lilith is
59:44missing she's more playful though yeah
59:45she seems a little bit more uh chill a
59:48little bit more like haha she's
59:50completely flat though there's like no
59:51tits there the thighs are amazing yeah

59:54just oh that's such a cute art style for

1:06:48drip I really like the shape of his head
1:06:50it's really cool especially the hands
1:06:52yeah the fact that he cuts parts of
1:06:54himself off to attack is really
1:06:55offputting but in a good way I feel he
1:06:57definitely has last boss energy for sure
1:06:59and D not a girl we start with a bulge
1:07:02we end with a bulge wait isn't this the
1:07:04same dude it's Donovan but evil what oh
1:07:08Evo ban you can tell he's evil because
1:07:10now he has a bulge thov van who accepted
1:07:11his vampire oh [ __ ] so I talked a little
1:07:14bit about his OG design this is kind of
1:07:16like mimicking uh Dimitri daddy his
1:07:19[ __ ] outfit is glued on it's Donovan
1:07:21if he turned he turned it out [ __ ] look
1:07:24at the Bulge okay so the are really
1:07:26really simple D doesn't have a lot going
1:07:27on for him I talked about the OG design
1:07:29a little bit this is more like uh yeah
1:07:31holy [ __ ] dark stalker has a
1:07:32surprisingly big cast yeah that's it we
1:07:36start with a bulge we end with a bulge
1:07:37closing thoughts I think dark stalkers
1:07:39is a masterpiece in design the
1:07:41limitations of the time that we had were
1:07:43basically that you couldn't make designs
1:07:45that were super busy you had to make
1:07:47stuff that was easy to animate and that
1:07:50was also very eye-catching my favorite
1:07:52is probably the bee Oregan and uh Ceno
1:07:55super [ __ ] cute uh so many of these
1:07:58characters were so good even the dudes
1:08:00were also so eye-catching I think that
1:08:02we need to you forgot Paul lumbees no
1:08:04wait [ __ ] you sometimes I wish we could
1:08:07go back to this school of design of
1:08:08simple but eye-catching because right
1:08:11now I feel like the goal of Designing a
1:08:14character right chat should be to show
1:08:15off the character's personality without
1:08:17saying a word I think that nowadays
1:08:19we've kind of lost a little bit of that
1:08:21in the current trend of making things
1:08:23really really busy it's not a bad Trend
1:08:26but it does lose some of the Simplicity
1:08:30and the straightforwardness that
1:08:31character design used to have I really
1:08:33like dark stalkers I might do more um
1:08:37video game character fting game
1:08:38character ratings in the F rankings in
1:08:40the future just reacting to talking
1:08:41about them because this was really fun I
1:08:44definitely appreciate fighting games uh
1:08:46for their Simplicity and for how I
1:08:48catching everything else without even
1:08:49really trying right Capcom please stop
1:08:51sitting on this
1:08:53property pick it up it's so good the
1:08:56character designs are so iconic it's
1:08:57such a fun premise come on like dear God
1:09:00use it it's so [ __ ] good it's so
1:09:02adorable I really like the be but yeah
1:09:05dark stalker good [ __ ] I think for me uh
1:09:07for the YouTube part of this video This
