3. 0:14like a reckless
4. 0:17Desperado I'd given up the normal thing
5. 0:20security
6. 0:22career to be a desert Wanderer and a
7. 0:25solo
8. 0:27mountainer I've purposefully coted death
9. 0:30it was part of my
10. 0:32plan the goal is not the mountain peak
11. 0:36but to improve the man pursuing Thrills
12. 0:41and challenges after many a brush with
13. 0:45death yes there have been many times I
14. 0:48thought I might be taking my last
15. 0:52breath I've lived through storms and
16. 0:54avalanches often times
17. 0:57alone I'd enjoyed the luck of Irishman
18. 1:00no major broken
19. 1:03bones and when the crisis passed away I
20. 1:06went back to what I
21. 1:08do I've learned many and many lessons
22. 1:12but perhaps I've missed a
23. 1:14few in April of 2003 I was canyoning
24. 1:19alone in blue John Canyon
25. 1:22Utah a Slot Canyon of
26. 1:26sandstone nobody else knew where I was
27. 1:29just somewhere in
28. 1:32Utah my self-reliant
29. 1:35arrogance almost a fatal

31. 1:45flaw I was descending casually then to
32. 1:48my shock and
33. 1:50alarm I knocked a giant chockstone
34. 1:53loosen it pinned my right
35. 1:55arm the rocket weighed 800 lb it was
36. 1:58wedged against the
37. 2:00wall my right hand smashed between the
38. 2:03two my chances they look
39. 2:05small I had but a pint of water left and
40. 2:09very little
41. 2:11food a couple of
42. 2:14burritos and my own
43. 2:17fortitude the boulder wouldn't budge an
44. 2:19inch though I tried and tried and
45. 2:22tried if only I'd been
46. 2:24sisifus and could roll it up the side

48. 2:34I knew I had but days to live if I could
49. 2:37not get
50. 2:38free hypothermia was possible but my
51. 2:41chief
52. 2:43enemies were thirst and dehydration they
53. 2:46would probably do me
54. 2:48in I'd fight my fate up to my death but

56. 2:53begin I tried to Chip The Rock away with
57. 2:56my cheap
58. 2:58multi-tool it only made the knife blade
59. 3:01dull which later would prove
60. 3:04cruel I finally realized my last chance
61. 3:07was to amputate my
62. 3:09arm but my knife could never cut the
63. 3:12bone I realized with

65. 3:22alarm on the fifth day I had no food
66. 3:25likewise my water
67. 3:27gone I knew that I would perish soon but
68. 3:30my will to live was
69. 3:33strong desperate I decided to drink my
70. 3:36own liquid
71. 3:37waste I did manage to gag it down but it
72. 3:41was a bitter
73. 3:43taste I knew I must cut off my arm no
74. 3:46other choice was
75. 3:48left desperation has a cruel
76. 3:51logic when you're faced with
77. 3:54death I knew that I might bleed to death
78. 3:57in fact the odds were high
79. 4:00I carved my own
80. 4:02epit on the Rock while standing

82. 4:10night I fashioned a rough tourniquet

84. 4:15carabiners conditions were quite
85. 4:17primitive in my surgical
86. 4:20Arena I cut away the Flesh and tendons

89. 4:28using strength and
90. 4:30torque I was borderline delirious but
91. 4:34there Rose in
92. 4:35me a violent
93. 4:38exultation for I was finally
94. 4:41free I crawled out of the canyon goodbye
95. 4:45my would be
96. 4:47tone repelling down along sheer
