- 0:01at 26 on 26th april 2003 this
- 0:05experienced climber set on a solo hike
- 0:08deep in the canyonlands national park of
- 0:11utah in the us his goal
- 0:13was to climb all of colorado's 14 years
- 0:1759 peaks over 14 000 feet solo in winter
- 0:22an attempt that was never done before
- 0:25as he climbed over a loose border he
- 0:27tumbled into a deep crevasse and that
- 0:30360 kg boulder crushed his arms and
- 0:33pinned him against the canyon wall right
- 0:35there
- 0:37five and a half days into the canyon out
- 0:40of food
- 0:41out of water
- 0:43hallucinating and drinking his own urine
- 0:48only to survive
- 0:50and then he remembered he had a blunt
- 0:52camping knife
- 0:54what if he can use that knife
- 0:56to cut off his arms to escape
- 0:59but wait
- 1:00a clamping knife cannot cut his bones
- 1:03and so deliberately lyle still slammed
- 1:06his body against the canyon wall
- 1:08snap
- 1:10that horrifying painful noise
- 1:13but his bones
- 1:15had broken
- 1:17it took him one arm
- 1:19to cut that flesh of his arms
- 1:21and then he rapped all the 60 feet of
- 1:24that peak and hiked several miles before
- 1:28he was rescued by a helicopter
- 1:31by then
- 1:32he had lost 18 kgs of weight and 25
- 1:37of his blood volume today aaron ralston
