- 0:10Psalm 118 the responsorial psalm for
- 0:13today's mass has the theme of The Great
- 0:16mercy of God towards his
- 0:19people we see the psalmist here is
- 0:21joyfully praising God again and again we
- 0:26hear in the refrain give thanks to the
- 0:28Lord for he is good good his Mercy
- 0:31endures
- 0:34forever in the year 2000 Pope John Paul
- 0:37II canonized a humble polish Nun by the
- 0:41name of sister FAA
- 0:44Kavala it was to her that the Lord
- 0:47himself appeared in a series of mystical
- 0:50Visions in the 1930s in which he asked
- 0:54sister fostina to promote the Devotion
- 0:57to his Divine
- 0:58Mercy at that mass of canonization Pope
- 1:02John Paul II instituted this day the
- 1:05Second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy
- 1:10Sunday and it's to be celebrated by The
- 1:13Universal Church in
- 1:16perpetuity it's a beautiful day to
- 1:19really think about what the Lord
- 1:21provides what he gives how he takes care
- 1:24of us through his
- 1:27Mercy if we stop to think about it
- 1:31we will quickly recognize the limits of
- 1:34our patience and mercy that we have
- 1:37towards others think about
- 1:40it when someone irritates us or harms us
- 1:45or harms our reputation or spoils our
- 1:48plans or
- 1:49gossips at times it is difficult to stay
- 1:53calm and to forgive that person from the
- 1:56heart but sometimes though the shoe can
- 1:59be on on the other
- 2:02foot how many times have we knowingly
- 2:05irritated someone else or harmed their
- 2:08reputation or spoiled their
- 2:11plans wor still we may be indifferent to
- 2:15the harm that we have cause I've always
- 2:17said that every single individual has a
- 2:20great capacity to do a lot of good and a
- 2:23great capacity to do a lot of
- 2:26harm even if we recognize our need for
- 2:30forgiveness we may be too proud or
- 2:33self-sufficient to recognize that we
- 2:35need to ask for
- 2:38forgiveness given the limits of our
- 2:40patience and mercy as well as our need
- 2:42for forgiveness what does divine mercy
- 2:45Sunday say to
- 2:47us what should this celebration of God's
- 2:50mercy mean in our daily lives as we're
- 2:54walking in the ways of the
- 2:56lord well I suggest two messages that
- 2:58you can take away
- 3:00this Sunday the first is this that we
- 3:03need to ReDiscover God's infinite Mercy
- 3:06in our lives ReDiscover
- 3:09it the depths of his love for us and the
- 3:13Readiness that he has to forgive us
- 3:17that's the first thing the second thing
- 3:21is responding to God's Mercy is
- 3:26challenging if we truly desire Mercy if
- 3:30we truly desire
- 3:34forgiveness Our Lives must
- 3:38change God's infinite Mercy the gospel
- 3:42tells us that Jesus went from place to
- 3:45place preaching the kingdom of God he
- 3:48was Healing The Sick raising the dead
- 3:51but before Jesus healed people
- 3:54physically he healed them
- 3:57spiritually in fact his physical cures
- 4:00were signs of spiritual healing the
- 4:03healing of the Soul if you remember in
- 4:06Matthew's gospel when Jesus healed the
- 4:09paralytic his first words were the first
- 4:12words were not rise and get up take your
- 4:16mat and walk those were not his first
- 4:19words but rather your sins are
- 4:23forgiven perhaps jesus' words dismayed
- 4:26the paralytic he's like okay that's nice
- 4:28you're forgiving me my my sins but I'd
- 4:30like to
- 4:32walk certainly his words angered the
- 4:35scribes and the Pharisees why because
- 4:37they thought Jesus was usurping God's
- 4:39prerogative of forgiving sins only God
- 4:43can forgive sins they tell them you're
- 4:45just this itinerant
- 4:48preacher but in Jesus we meet The God
- 4:51Who alone can forgive sins it is Christ
- 4:54who forgives sins his very name the name
- 4:58of Jesus what does the name ofes Jesus
- 5:00being God
- 5:03Saves and his Miracle of healing both
- 5:05physical and spiritual were but the
- 5:07runup of to the storm of mercies he
- 5:11would
- 5:12unleash on us by his death and
- 5:17Resurrection the Lord as you saw and you
- 5:20as you heard in the gospel today gave
- 5:23his church the power to forgive
- 5:27sins nothing less than the power of
- 5:30Divine
- 5:31Mercy the Risen Lord makes them Heralds
- 5:34ministers and agents of Mercy which he
- 5:37procured on the human race by his
- 5:39passion death and Resurrection what does
- 5:42he say he says who sins you shall
- 5:44forgive they are
- 5:46forgiven he says to them these words and
- 5:49these words reverberate every time a
- 5:52priest is in the confessional and says I
- 5:55absolve you from your sins do you see
- 5:58the connection
- 6:01Divine Mercy Sunday aims to immerse Us
- 6:03in this ocean of God's mercy to allow us
- 6:07to ReDiscover what does that
- 6:11mean if we abser absorb what we
- 6:14celebrate in this Holy Mass then Jesus's
- 6:16death and Resurrection will not remain
- 6:18somewhere so far
- 6:20off but something that's tangible
- 6:24something that we can attain something
- 6:26that is ready for us and
- 6:28available
- 6:32if
- 6:33we if we hit home if we allow this to
- 6:37sink into our minds our hearts we will
- 6:41discover that in the death and
- 6:42resurrection of Christ The Links of
- 6:45which the father of mercies went to
- 6:47rescue us from our sins and to make
- 6:50ready the availability of his Limitless
- 6:53mercies now is in the ministry of the
- 6:56church especially in the sacrament of
- 6:59Recon
- 7:00ilation so the question this Sunday is
- 7:03how then shall we respond to God's mercy
- 7:06we ReDiscover it but then how do we
- 7:09respond to God's
- 7:11mercy what does it mean truly to accept
- 7:14God's mercy into our hearts well the
- 7:16answer to that question we need to look
- 7:18at what our ordinary experiences teach
- 7:24us let's just say that you have hurt
- 7:29someone
- 7:30you've hurt someone that you love
- 7:33perhaps a spouse or a
- 7:37parent coldness of heart replaces
- 7:42warmth a warmth of
- 7:44love tension enters into a relationship
- 7:49that should be tranquil and
- 7:51peaceful distance begins to triumph over
- 7:55intimacy and closeness in the
- 7:57relationship think about everything that
- 8:00happens when there is a conflict or a
- 8:02problem between you a spouse a parent a
- 8:06child someone in your
- 8:08family unless you are made of stone if
- 8:12this Lov per this loved one reaches out
- 8:16and makes the
- 8:18initiative to forgive
- 8:21you you will be
- 8:23relieved
- 8:25grateful
- 8:27renewed joyful that this person that I
- 8:30love who I hurtt now is reaching out to
- 8:33me to forgive
- 8:35me because your loved one has given you
- 8:38a great gift the gift of selfless love
- 8:40and
- 8:41mercy now does it mean that it's okay to
- 8:44go back to business as
- 8:46usual or does accepting another's
- 8:48forgiveness not mean that you and I have
- 8:51to change that something has to give not
- 8:54only our outward Behavior but also what
- 8:56is in the depths of our hearts because
- 8:59you you see forgiveness is not a get out
- 9:01of jail free
- 9:04card what it does is it g allows for a
- 9:07new
- 9:09beginning it's not too much different
- 9:11when we respond to the gift of God's
- 9:13mercy and this is what we need to
- 9:16understand all of us love God but often
- 9:19we find that our sins have alienated us
- 9:23from God our relationship with God cools
- 9:27our tranquil hearts become our
- 9:30Tranquility in our hearts
- 9:32ceases God seems
- 9:35distant but we got to understand yet it
- 9:38is God who always takes the initiative
- 9:41to heal the breach it is God who
- 9:44approaches us again and again and again
- 9:49he the father of mercies whose crucified
- 9:51and risen son touches the deepest wounds
- 9:55of our
- 9:57existence when we hear of God's
- 9:59forgiveness in the scripture when God
- 10:01confines his desire to forgive us in the
- 10:03moments of private prayer when our own
- 10:06heart aches with the with a separation
- 10:08from God because of what our sins have
- 10:11caused then let us joyfully open our
- 10:14hearts to this selfless gift of
- 10:16mercy and we do so by making a good unb
- 10:20burning confession in the sacrament of
- 10:25reconciliation only a humble and
- 10:27contrite heart can receive receive God's
- 10:31mercy and once the Peace of Christ
- 10:34enters our hearts and our lives begin to
- 10:37change or should begin to change we may
- 10:41stumble and fall even repeatedly but
- 10:43God's Grace will be at work in us if we
- 10:46patiently work with God's mercy to begin
- 10:49to mend our hearts to replace Vice with
- 10:53virtue making us luminous with
- 10:56love as the work of Divine Mercy
- 10:59progresses our capacity to love and
- 11:01forgive others will be purified and
- 11:05expand and will and our will for
- 11:08eagerness to engage in The Works of
- 11:10Mercy compassion such as caring for the
- 11:12poor welcoming The Stranger consoling
- 11:15those who are
- 11:18sorrowful because when we begin to work
- 11:20with Mercy we ourselves become
- 11:23instruments of God's grace in others PE
- 11:25in other people's lives let me close
- 11:28with a quote from Sister faa's diary in
- 11:31which she recorded these words words
- 11:34that the Lord spoke to her listen
- 11:38carefully let the greatest Sinners Place
- 11:41their trust in my
- 11:43Mercy they have the right before all
- 11:46others to trust in the abyss of my
- 11:49Mercy my daughter write about my Mercy
- 11:52towards tormented
- 11:55Souls Souls that make an appeal to my
- 11:58Mercy Delight
- 11:59me to such Souls I grant even more
- 12:03Graces than what they ask I cannot
- 12:06punish the greatest sinner if he makes
- 12:08an appeal to my compassion but on the
- 12:12contrary I justify him in my
- 12:14unfathomable and inscrutable
- 12:17Mercy before I come as a just judge I
- 12:21first open wide the door of my Mercy how
- 12:26beautiful thank you Lord thank you for
- 12:29your mercy and your
- 12:31forgiveness as we bring as we bring a
- 12:34close to the Octave of Easter today it
- 12:37is fitting to recall with gratitude what
- 12:39God has done for us the entire event of
- 12:43Jesus from his Incarnation and birth his
- 12:46teaching and preaching of the Gospel to
- 12:49his passion death and Resurrection
- 12:51absolutely
- 12:53everything is a gift of God's
- 12:56mercy that we must give thanks for for
- 13:00and that's exactly what we echo in the
- 13:02responsorial psalm today Psalm 118 give
- 13:05thanks to the Lord for he good his Mercy
- 13:09endures forever
- 13:28amen
- 13:36I believe in one God Father Almighty
