  1. 0:04what are you feeling is your your seeing
  2. 0:06the elevator here look a little
  3. 0:10squeamish like you want to step aside
  4. 0:11from the elevator okay what I wanted to
  5. 0:13show you was that
  6. 0:15elevators are something that you can get
  7. 0:19up close to they're not gonna come after
  8. 0:21you they're not gonna do anything right
  9. 0:22at this point let's look how close I'm
  10. 0:24standing this elevator right now I see
  11. 0:25where I am
  12. 0:26yes Beck down really right up here
  13. 0:28against it right now I know yes you are
  14. 0:29okay and Here I am I'm touching the
  15. 0:32number on the floor here and the
  16. 0:38elevators there you're gonna fall do you
  17. 0:40think that would happen they could okay
  18. 0:41what do you think the chances are that I
  19. 0:43would open in the elevator wouldn't be
  20. 0:44there there we've done those things
  21. 0:47before where there's how frequent the
  22. 0:49chances are the things would actually
  23. 0:50happen like that yeah okay so we did the
  24. 0:53thing in the in the cafeteria with the
  25. 0:55risk of your tray actually falling out
  26. 0:58of your hands right straight to think
  27. 1:00about what the risk would be of an
  28. 1:02elevator opening and there not being an
  29. 1:04elevator there the risk is pretty low
  30. 1:07but in my mind in your mind to turn very
  31. 1:09likely high yeah if I realize think
  32. 1:12about it what do you think the chances
  33. 1:13are that I would press this button the
  34. 1:15doors would open and there would be no
  35. 1:16elevator there just open before probably
  36. 1:20I wanna know you know many many more
  37. 1:22than that I've written a lot of
  38. 1:23elevators I certainly never seen it
  39. 1:24happen and then we can even go let's say
  40. 1:26if I'm standing here and it opens and
  41. 1:28there's no elevator there what are the
  42. 1:29chances are that I'm gonna fall into
  43. 1:31that hole I gotta jump in there looking
  44. 1:34you went to step off well I think I'm
  45. 1:36gonna look before I step in this okay
  46. 1:37okay so I think I'm gonna show you how
  47. 1:39this would work
  48. 1:39okay okay with you that you could
  49. 1:41actually be beside me as I press the
  50. 1:44button and call an elevator and at least
  51. 1:46go partly you know now
  52. 1:47sure so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna
  53. 1:48show you how to press the button I'm
  54. 1:50gonna go into the elevator and then I'm
  55. 1:51going to step back out again which is
  56. 1:54something you can practice you know
  57. 1:56yours go okay in fact uh let's see
  58. 2:00there's an elevator right there can we
  59. 2:02go over and check that out sir would you
  60. 2:03mind if we don't this elevator thank you
  61. 2:05very much
  62. 2:06you can just watch me I'm gonna go in
  63. 2:07here and I can just actually hold my
  64. 2:09hand on the side of the elevator and
  65. 2:10there's an electric eye here so it's not
  66. 2:12gonna open because I have my hand on
  67. 2:13that there's also a button in here which
  68. 2:15will open the elevator and if I press it
  69. 2:18it keeps the door open so I can stand
  70. 2:21here and talk with you okay
  71. 2:22now I'm seeing a number of buttons for
  72. 2:25the floors here no no when hear these
  73. 2:28sounds what does it feel like to you
  74. 2:29panic this is just telling me that
  75. 2:33someone's holding the button and they
  76. 2:35think it probably is a good idea if the
  77. 2:36elevator gets on a switch this gentleman
  78. 2:37is very nice and it's been listening to
  79. 2:39this so I'm gonna go ahead let him take
  80. 2:40the ride and I'm gonna step back out
  81. 2:41again okay okay yeah so here we go
  82. 2:43thank you very much sir okay so you've
  83. 2:47been very good at watching this I can
  84. 2:48tell you're just getting a little bit
  85. 2:49hands are sweaty sure
  86. 2:51remember our basic idea about how to
  87. 2:53handle anxiety disorders that one of the
  88. 2:55things is that we have a pattern of
  89. 2:57avoiding things because we have a
  90. 2:59built-up fear of how bad it's going to
  91. 3:01be every time we avoided that makes it
  92. 3:02feel worse yes
  93. 3:04so our strategy gears in other ways to
  94. 3:06break this pattern avoidance okay so
  95. 3:08what do you say we call another elevator
  96. 3:10you try to step in and out of the
  97. 3:11elevator with me just like I did okay
  98. 3:13okay okay the Steve will just press the
  99. 3:15button if you press the button I can
  100. 3:17push the button
  101. 3:18great great yes there we go let's see
  102. 3:22we'll take the first elevator that comes
  103. 3:24there I guess for them right here okay
  104. 3:26all right
  105. 3:27I don't know if I can get in it if it's
  106. 3:29crowded okay well if it's not then we'll
  107. 3:31catch the nurse then I feel like I'd be
  108. 3:32stuck yeah we'll talk with about that
  109. 3:35one once we finish this exercise happen
  110. 3:37I don't likelihood of being more stuck
  111. 3:39if they're more people okay let's see
  112. 3:41what happens here with now you see
  113. 3:45assignment it says in case of fire you
  114. 3:47stairs know of it yeah what do you think
  115. 3:48when you see that sign that the fire
  116. 3:50would just shoot right up the elevator
  117. 3:52shaft well they do have a fire sign
  118. 3:56right there don't they yes okay so
  119. 3:58probably it is a good caution that when
  120. 4:00there is a fire to take the stairs
  121. 4:02that's what is generally recommended
  122. 4:03okay now here's another elevator effect
  123. 4:07this is the one that I was in earlier so
  124. 4:09that's what I'm going to step inside and
  125. 4:12I'm going to help a little bit by
  126. 4:13holding this did you step inside with me
  127. 4:15Ramon okay I'm breathing okay remember
  128. 4:18your breathing your normal breathing
  129. 4:20that's actually it's funny how the
  130. 4:22button I'm holding it just like I did
  131. 4:23before
  132. 4:24see if we can wait until that buzzer
  133. 4:26goes off and then we'll step outside let
  134. 4:28my panic button when it goes off no it's
  135. 4:30not the panic what just tells us that
  136. 4:31someone's holding the button for a while
  137. 4:33so here we are can you open the elevator
  138. 4:35you can't no I want to look at the door
  139. 4:38we'll do that another day this should
  140. 4:40take a quick look up where here's this
  141. 4:41is nice glass panels on the top mm-hm
  142. 4:44here's the Lambert Iseman for the nurse
  143. 4:46of the week okay which is very nice yes
  144. 4:48okay in fact it's a very beautifully
  145. 4:50designed elevator here okay so now we
  146. 4:53said we'd step out so we're ready okay
  147. 4:55excellent
  148. 4:56great so that was our experience with
  149. 4:59actually stepping in and outside of
  150. 5:00knowledge I think it's probably been
  151. 5:01some time since you've done that yes it
  152. 5:03has
  153. 5:04maybe a year how do you feel well I was
  154. 5:08pretty anxious while we were doing it
  155. 5:10but I guess now there's a sense of
  156. 5:12accomplishment
  157. 5:13it didn't fall yeah I didn't fall it
  158. 5:16didn't I was actually an elevator floor
  159. 5:17there is a loafer David you did check it
  160. 5:20out
  161. 5:21okay well it's pretty good to look
  162. 5:22before you before you get into something
  163. 5:24like that
  164. 5:24all right well what we're gonna do today
  165. 5:27is stop for now because we've had a good
  166. 5:29experience with this and then we'll take
  167. 5:30another day and we'll come back okay and
  168. 5:32try to do some more things with
  169. 5:33elevators okay
