- 0:00okay today we're going to tackle that
- 0:01age-old question that I get asked on a
- 0:04routine basis from friends and family
- 0:06and here on YouTube in the comments
- 0:08which one should you go for an Apple
- 0:10Watch or a Garmin this is going to be a
- 0:13deep dive let's talk about it this video
- 0:14is designed for the person just starting
- 0:16to explore the options when it comes to
- 0:19GPS multisport watches smart watches
- 0:22that sort of thing and one of the
- 0:23questions that you'll quickly realize
- 0:26when you're getting into this mess is
- 0:28that it's really hard to decide which
- 0:30way to go should you go for an Apple
- 0:31Watch with all the Smartwatch
- 0:33capabilities and cellular connectivity
- 0:35and apps or should you go for something
- 0:37like a Garmin which is a little bit more
- 0:39focused on being a fitness watch rather
- 0:42than a smartwatch now truth be told
- 0:44there are no bad options here all the
- 0:47watches I have on the table here are
- 0:49really nice the thing is when it comes
- 0:51to either a Garin or an Apple Watch
- 0:53there's always going to be a sacrifice
- 0:55there's going to be pros and cons to
- 0:57both and it's really going to boil down
- 0:58to your specific use case as to which
- 1:01one's right for you now my goal in this
- 1:03video today is to run through all the
- 1:06differences all the variables and try to
- 1:08help you decide which one is the right
- 1:10tool for the job and keep in mind as we
- 1:12go through this that I'm not going to be
- 1:14talking about specific models in general
- 1:17we're going to keep this pretty high
- 1:18level so we can actually get through
- 1:19this video so looking at my table here
- 1:21you can see there's a lot of garments on
- 1:23the left side of the screen here and
- 1:25that's because Garmin makes a lot of
- 1:26different watches at a lot of different
- 1:28different price points it's very
- 1:30confusing now if we look at the right
- 1:31side of the table here it's it's much
- 1:33simpler I've got two apple watches out
- 1:35of the three current models that are
- 1:36available from them they've got the base
- 1:39model which is the Apple watch SE coming
- 1:41in at
- 1:42$249 that's retail price then the middle
- 1:45of the road would be the Apple Watch
- 1:47series 9 which comes in at around
- 1:50$399 and then finally the most expensive
- 1:53option would be the Apple watch Ultra 2
- 1:55which comes in at $800 or $799 here in
- 1:58the USA keep keep in mind that's not
- 2:01sale pricing that's going to vary
- 2:02wherever you are in the world so Apple
- 2:04basically offers three different models
- 2:06at three different price points and
- 2:07within those three different models
- 2:08there's even more variables like a
- 2:10stainless steel version of the Apple
- 2:12Watch series 9 versus the aluminum and
- 2:14cellular versus versus non- cellular and
- 2:16all of that will change the pricing
- 2:18accordingly on the other hand if we go
- 2:20over to the Garmin side of things Garmin
- 2:22just makes a lot of different models for
- 2:24example they have watches starting at
- 2:27$249 like this Vivo active 5 I have here
- 2:30but on the same token they also have the
- 2:31Garmin Foreigner 165 which again is $249
- 2:36both watches are the same price they
- 2:38just vary in what features are offered
- 2:40so on the Vivo active 5 for example it's
- 2:43more of a wellness device while on the
- 2:45Gman forigner 165 it's more designed for
- 2:48runners the point I'm trying to get at
- 2:50here is you're going to notice in the
- 2:51Garmin camp that there's going to be
- 2:53silos there's going to be like Adventure
- 2:55oriented watches like this Garmin
- 2:57Instinct 2x here that's going to going
- 2:59to be lumped in with something like the
- 3:01Garmin epics Gen 2 or the Phoenix 7
- 3:04these are all like hiking outdoor style
- 3:06watches that can sort of do it all then
- 3:08there's the forer lineup which is the
- 3:10Garmin forigner 265 or the 965 I'm
- 3:13wearing here which are more in the
- 3:15running lineup and then there's Wellness
- 3:17devices like the Garmin venue series I
- 3:19have here or the Vivo active 5 I have
- 3:22here which are more designed to help
- 3:24with like day-to-day wellness and
- 3:25fitness and the moral of the story here
- 3:27is that both apple and Garmin offer
- 3:30devices ranging from $250 all the way up
- 3:33to like ,000 so it's really gonna depend
- 3:35on your budget and what you're looking
- 3:37for okay I hope that helps hey there
- 3:39quick Interruption if you're finding
- 3:41this video fun or helpful or
- 3:42entertaining or anything please consider
- 3:44going down and giving me a thumbs up and
- 3:46subscribing to my channel down below so
- 3:47you don't miss more videos for me in the
- 3:49future I'd really appreciate that also
- 3:51make sure to check out the links in the
- 3:52description to the products I'm showing
- 3:54in this video and over to my merch store
- 3:56where you can get a pretty sweet hat
- 3:58like that all right let's move on moving
- 4:00right along into the next topic let's
- 4:01talk about design and size options and
- 4:04the form factor so again between these
- 4:06two different brands there's going to be
- 4:08various sizes to choose from and that's
- 4:10going to be important depending on the
- 4:12size of your wrist for me for example I
- 4:14have 16.5 cm circumference wrist and
- 4:17this is the Garmin Foreigner 965 which
- 4:20comes in at 47 mm in diameter however if
- 4:23I was to take the Garmin Epix Pro 51 mm
- 4:25here you can see it's quite a bit bigger
- 4:27it's a much chunkier watch and on my
- 4:29wrist it's a little bit big and that's
- 4:31really going to boil down to your
- 4:32personal preference and how big your
- 4:34wrists are and the nice thing about
- 4:36Garmin is that they actually make small
- 4:37versions of most of their bigger watches
- 4:40for example there's a 265 and then a
- 4:43265s which is 42 mm in diameter when it
- 4:46comes to sizing when we jump over to the
- 4:48Apple side of things you do have some
- 4:49sizes to choose from there as well if
- 4:51you go with that Apple watch SE or an
- 4:54Apple Watch series 9 both of those
- 4:55models do have two different size op
- 4:57options to choose from now this one here
- 5:00is an Apple Watch 45 mm form factor and
- 5:03you can see on my 16.5 cm circumference
- 5:05wrists it fits me pretty well now
- 5:08jumping all the way up to the Apple
- 5:10watch Ultra 2 here this watch only comes
- 5:13in one size form factor and that is 49
- 5:16mm so it is quite a bit bigger than the
- 5:19smaller Apple watches but then again
- 5:21it's still not like crazy bulky for my
- 5:23size wrist so I can wear this day today
- 5:26without a problem the other thing to
- 5:27consider when it comes to size though is
- 5:29the form factor or the aspect ratio of
- 5:31the watch where Garmin are typically
- 5:33round for the most part they do have one
- 5:35square watch but generally all of their
- 5:38modern day watches are round this is the
- 5:40Epic Pro 51 mm on the left here while
- 5:43apple on the other hand makes
- 5:45rectangular watches there are some pros
- 5:47and cons to both for me I do like the
- 5:49look of a standard round watch however
- 5:52the Apple watch does provide a little
- 5:53bit more screen real estate because of
- 5:56that square shape design moving right
- 5:58along into the next top topic let's talk
- 6:00about the user interface between Garmin
- 6:02and Apple watch and how they differ the
- 6:04user user interface on the Garmin
- 6:06watches will vary depending on the model
- 6:09that you purchase you can see here I've
- 6:10got a 4Runner model and an epics model
- 6:12but if I scroll down between these two
- 6:14models the user interface like looks a
- 6:17little bit different it's very similar
- 6:18but like the animations are slightly
- 6:20different now on the Apple side of
- 6:21things the user interface across all
- 6:24Apple watches is the same you could have
- 6:25an Apple Watch series 5 or like a really
- 6:28old Apple watch it'll look nearly
- 6:30identical to how this Apple watch Ultra
- 6:332 looks when you're using it and
- 6:34scrolling through the menus the next
- 6:35thing I want to talk about is actually
- 6:37interacting with these watches and how
- 6:39that differs between Apple and Garmin as
- 6:41well so for example on the Apple watch
- 6:44it basically leverages the touchcreen
- 6:45for everything you do not everything
- 6:47we'll talk about that in a minute but
- 6:49most things you do on the Apple watch
- 6:51you're going to need to use the
- 6:52touchscreen for example if I'm scrolling
- 6:54through the menu here and I want to
- 6:56select I don't know the sleep app for
- 6:58example there's no button here to select
- 7:00that particular thing I can't just like
- 7:02push a button on the side here to select
- 7:04sleep I have to physically tap on sleep
- 7:06and that will open the app not a huge
- 7:09deal but if you're out on a hike or a
- 7:12run for example and you've got wet
- 7:13sweaty hands using a touchcreen can be a
- 7:16little bit of a hassle on the other hand
- 7:18on the Apple watch Ultra 2 for example
- 7:20you do get an extra button on this watch
- 7:22and as you can see on the side here this
- 7:24orange button that they call the action
- 7:26button can be mapped to various things
- 7:28so for me I've actually map that to
- 7:30launch my my workout activities so I can
- 7:32click on that it'll open up the workout
- 7:35app now I can choose run for example
- 7:37again I can't just select run by using a
- 7:39button I have to physically tap on it
- 7:41but now that I'm in there I can actually
- 7:43use the the action button to start my
- 7:45workout as you can see there it just
- 7:47started I can Mark a segment with that
- 7:49button and I can even pinch two buttons
- 7:51at the same time to pause my workout
- 7:54however I can't end my workout with
- 7:56buttons I still have to swipe over and
- 7:58click the end button physically there to
- 7:59end the workout so as you can see it's
- 8:01kind of like a hybrid of using buttons
- 8:03and screens to get things done now if we
- 8:05go over to the Garment side of things
- 8:07that's where things are a little bit
- 8:08simpler so if you're looking to use more
- 8:10of a tactile button-based user interface
- 8:13that's where Garmin excels so as you can
- 8:16see here if I scroll through this epics
- 8:17Pro I can do everything with the buttons
- 8:20I can go into my last activity there
- 8:22click on that now I can scroll down and
- 8:25I can look into different activities I
- 8:27can open up the maps from that activity
- 8:28or look at my heart read zones
- 8:30everything on this watch can be done
- 8:31from the buttons and not only that I can
- 8:34actually disable the touchscreen
- 8:35entirely if I don't want to use it again
- 8:37though this is going to vary depending
- 8:39on what Garmin watch you choose for
- 8:40example the Garmin venue 3 here which is
- 8:43more of like a smartwatch Wellness watch
- 8:45kind of situation only has three buttons
- 8:47on the side so you can't do everything
- 8:49on this watch from the buttons on this
- 8:51Garmin occasionally you will need to use
- 8:53the touchcreen so it's going to boil
- 8:54down to what model you choose if it's an
- 8:57epics or a 4Runner it can be completely
- 8:59button based and touchcreen based if
- 9:02it's a venue 3 or a Vivo active then
- 9:05you're going to have to use the
- 9:06touchcreen for most things and if you
- 9:08have an instinct series that's where
- 9:10there's no touchcreen at all and you
- 9:12will be using the buttons for absolutely
- 9:14everything confused yet I am too let's
- 9:16move on now let's talk about the actual
- 9:18user interface between Apple and Garmin
- 9:21because they are very very different so
- 9:23on the Apple watch it could be an Ultra
- 9:252 a series 9 a series 8 series 7 they're
- 9:28all kind of the same their user
- 9:29interface is quite different it's
- 9:31basically like having an iPhone strapped
- 9:34to your wrist if I dive into my app menu
- 9:36here you can see that it's really
- 9:38reactive and there's lots of animations
- 9:40and colors and everything just looks
- 9:41really nice the controls are super
- 9:44smooth there's no delay no lag no
- 9:47waiting for anything to happen this is a
- 9:49really Snappy user interface however in
- 9:51here you'll find things like you know
- 9:53Apple music or messages to check your
- 9:55text messages you can scroll down and
- 9:57you can open up the phone app to make a
- 9:59phone call right from the watch without
- 10:01even having your phone on you you can
- 10:02open up Apple photos and look at recent
- 10:04photos you took with your iPhone and it
- 10:07ties into the Apple ecosystem really
- 10:10tightly so if you get a text message on
- 10:12your phone it's going to pop up on here
- 10:14instantly you can reply to your text
- 10:15messages from your watch you can stream
- 10:17music to your watch using cellular data
- 10:19again just keeping this pretty high
- 10:20level to keep things moving I'll just
- 10:22summarize the Apple watch by saying it's
- 10:24a lot like your phone just really tiny
- 10:26and strapped to your wrist now jumping
- 10:28over the Garmin watches here here that's
- 10:29where the user interface is a little bit
- 10:31different because if you scroll down
- 10:33you'll notice that the Garmin watches
- 10:35prioritize your health and fitness over
- 10:37everything else so the first thing you
- 10:39see are things that will assist you in
- 10:41your health and fitness here we've got a
- 10:43weather widget then we've got the sunset
- 10:45and sunrise widget but if I scroll down
- 10:47you'll see my weekly mileage here this
- 10:49is my last activity which was running
- 10:51you'll see uh Health which will show me
- 10:53my body battery which is a metric used
- 10:55to try to help you identify how much
- 10:58energy you have left in your day you've
- 11:00got my sleep data there my heart rate
- 11:02throughout the day my HRV status that's
- 11:04heart rate variability that'll let you
- 11:06know how your HRV is doing from dayto
- 11:08day and whether or not it's declining or
- 11:10going up you've got your step count and
- 11:12your spo2 data there as well but it
- 11:14doesn't just end there with like
- 11:16wellness data if I scroll down you've
- 11:18also got things like your estimated V2
- 11:20Max here this is a good gauge on your
- 11:22Fitness level and how your training is
- 11:24helping your Fitness improve if I back
- 11:26out of there I've even got things like
- 11:27the hill score and then there's this
- 11:29metric here called training readiness
- 11:31which is one of my favorite metrics on
- 11:33Garmin watches if I dive into this you
- 11:35can see it says my training readiness is
- 11:37moderate and if I scroll down it shows
- 11:39all the factors that play a role into my
- 11:41training readiness so that's my sleep my
- 11:44recovery my HRV status my training load
- 11:47my sleep history my stress history and
- 11:50all those things roll up into that one
- 11:52score that is training readiness to help
- 11:54you identify how ready you are to take
- 11:56on more training on a given day and then
- 11:59on the the garments you do have tools
- 12:00like training status and training status
- 12:02will basically aggregate all of your
- 12:04recent activities and let you know if
- 12:06it's improving or productive to your
- 12:08Fitness or decreasing or you know
- 12:10straining your Fitness level because
- 12:12you're overtraining or you're not doing
- 12:13enough to be clear even though the Apple
- 12:15watch doesn't present all the same data
- 12:17that the Garmin do front and center
- 12:20right on the watch itself it still does
- 12:22collect all of that data including your
- 12:24sleep your daily Wellness your step
- 12:26count and even more advanced metrics
- 12:28like the V 2 max for example and that's
- 12:31all viewable within the Apple Health app
- 12:33however it's still missing features like
- 12:35body battery and training load but
- 12:37that's where third-party apps come in to
- 12:39sort of fill the gaps so even though the
- 12:41Apple watch prioritizes smart functions
- 12:43like phone calls and text messages and
- 12:45streaming and all that stuff it can do a
- 12:48whole lot more because the Apple App
- 12:50Store has thousands of apps that you can
- 12:52download to your Apple watch there's
- 12:54just about an app for everything
- 12:55imaginable I have an app on mine to like
- 12:57open up my garage doors so like I said
- 13:00the appw watch doesn't prioritize the
- 13:01health and wellness data like right off
- 13:03the bat but if you download an app like
- 13:05athletic or Elite HRV they can get the
- 13:07job done too in a very similar way to
- 13:10Garmin watches they're just doing it
- 13:12with a third-party app and that's kind
- 13:14of what Apple does with everything Apple
- 13:16basically gives you the foundation which
- 13:18is the Apple watch itself with a really
- 13:20slick looking user interface and then
- 13:22they rely on thirdparty developers and
- 13:24apps to kind of fill in the gaps for
- 13:26what you want to do jumping back over to
- 13:28the Garmin watches here there is an app
- 13:29store for Garmin as well it's called
- 13:31connect IQ or Garmin Connect IQ the
- 13:34difference here is that on Garmin
- 13:35Connect IQ first of all there's a lot
- 13:37less offerings there there's not a lot
- 13:39of thirdparty Developers for Garmin but
- 13:42if you are looking for a watch face
- 13:44there are thousand thousands of them you
- 13:45can download to your watch another thing
- 13:47you can download is data fields and data
- 13:49fields are little Snippets of
- 13:50information that can show up during an
- 13:53activities so if you're out on a run and
- 13:55you want a data field to show your
- 13:56elevation data on a little graph you'll
- 13:58probably find that on the connect IQ
- 14:00store and that just allows you to
- 14:02customize your activity data Pages what
- 14:04you actually see when you're out on a
- 14:06run so to summarize the Apple App Store
- 14:08with the Apple watch there's a ton of
- 14:10apps out there thousands of them to do
- 14:12just about everything you can imagine
- 14:14where on the Garmin Connect app store
- 14:16it's really focused on watch faces and
- 14:19some simple apps along with data fields
- 14:21moving along to the next topic let's
- 14:23talk about activity profiles and
- 14:25recording activities with the Apple
- 14:27watch and the garments so again this
- 14:29ation will tie into Apps a little bit as
- 14:31well because you know for the most part
- 14:33I like to use the built-in default app
- 14:35for working out from Apple which does
- 14:37have a lot of activity profiles from
- 14:39indoor running outdoor running and
- 14:41everything in between you can even go
- 14:42down and click add workout and you'll
- 14:44see things like badminton bar basketball
- 14:47soccer dancing American football archery
- 14:50you name it apples probably got it
- 14:52there's a lot of activity profiles here
- 14:54for just about everything now the nice
- 14:56thing about Apple is that if it's
- 14:58missing an activity profile you can
- 15:00probably find an app for that so if
- 15:02you're somebody who's like playing
- 15:04pickle ball or something and you
- 15:05couldn't find that in this list you'll
- 15:07probably be able to find a pickle ball
- 15:09app on the App Store to fill that Gap
- 15:11and another nice thing about the Apple
- 15:12App Store is that there's thirdparty
- 15:14apps for recording activities like
- 15:17workout doors which is one of my
- 15:18favorites for example it costs like five
- 15:21bucks and it's a way better workout
- 15:23experience compared to the native
- 15:25built-in workout app on the Apple watch
- 15:27in my opinion at least because it does
- 15:29have built-in mapping and navigation
- 15:31when you're out on your trail run or
- 15:33hike which I find really valuable again
- 15:35there's just a lot of flexibility when
- 15:37it comes to the Apple watch and the App
- 15:38Store there's a lot more you can do
- 15:40there now on the Garment side of things
- 15:42again there are a ton of activity
- 15:43profiles to choose from within the
- 15:45workout app here so if I scroll down
- 15:47you're even going to see things like
- 15:48soccer and football American football
- 15:50basketball baseball team sports but more
- 15:53simple things like running and cycling
- 15:55as well and then on top of that you will
- 15:56find you know crazy things like X
- 15:58edition if you're climing climbing Mount
- 16:00Everest this particular activity profile
- 16:02will only ping a GPS satellite every few
- 16:05hours to conserve battery life so you
- 16:07can go on a super long hike without
- 16:09killing your battery so there's more
- 16:11like Niche activities I think on the
- 16:13Garmin side of things where the Apple
- 16:16watch is a little bit more basic when it
- 16:18comes to activity recording and on the
- 16:19activity tracking side of things let's
- 16:21talk about navigation and mapping if you
- 16:24are a hiker a trail Runner somebody who
- 16:26goes off the beaten path and you want to
- 16:28navigate around by using your watch
- 16:29instead of getting your phone out every
- 16:312 seconds that's where it's sort of a
- 16:33landslide victory for Garmin because
- 16:35they have built-in offline maps that are
- 16:37for your entire region so if you need to
- 16:40find a waypoint you can look it up right
- 16:42on your watch tap on it click go and
- 16:44it'll actually give you turn BYT
- 16:45directions without a cellular connection
- 16:47to wherever you're trying to get to and
- 16:50the mapping and navigation on Garmin is
- 16:52really Advanced on the Apple side of
- 16:54things it does have mapping and
- 16:55navigation in fact a little while ago
- 16:57they introduced offline mapping and
- 16:59navigation to the Apple Watch series
- 17:01however the offline mapping relied on
- 17:03your phone I don't know why they did
- 17:05this but instead of having the maps
- 17:07downloaded right to the watch you still
- 17:09needed your phone on you even if you're
- 17:11like in the back country looking up a
- 17:13map on your watch that being said if you
- 17:15are used to something like Google Maps
- 17:16or Apple Maps for example the mapping
- 17:19experience on the Garmin watches can be
- 17:21a little bit frustrating because as you
- 17:23can see it's not like crazy fast
- 17:25responsive it's a little bit laggy and
- 17:27that's just the case because these
- 17:29watches have a slower computer inside
- 17:31slower Graphics handling and because of
- 17:34that it's a little harder to navigate
- 17:35through the mapping totally usable once
- 17:37you get used to it but it is something
- 17:38to consider if you're used to like an
- 17:40Apple Watch or navigating on your phone
- 17:42for example and finally on the topic of
- 17:44navigation and mapping one more thing I
- 17:46should mention is that it gets a lot
- 17:48more confusing on the Garmin watches as
- 17:50to which ones have mapping and which one
- 17:52don't for example if you buy the Garmin
- 17:55Vivo active 5 here this watch has no
- 17:57mapping or navigation despite being a
- 17:59Garmin watch but if you buy something
- 18:02like the Garmin Foreigner 265 here this
- 18:04has bra basic breadcrumb navigation
- 18:07which means you'll be able to see a
- 18:08little squiggly line of where you've
- 18:09gone so far you'll be able to use that
- 18:11line to get back to the beginning of
- 18:12your activity but you won't have any
- 18:14context around you you want to have a
- 18:16base map that will show you like other
- 18:18Trails or waterways or roads or anything
- 18:20like that and then finally you do have
- 18:22the Garmin Phoenix the epics the Garmin
- 18:24forer 965 here and all these watches do
- 18:27have that full-blown color mapping
- 18:29capabilities so again it's important to
- 18:32focus in on what product you're actually
- 18:34looking at from Garmin and what features
- 18:36you need and now that we've talked about
- 18:38the activity tracking apps let's talk
- 18:40about accuracy how accurate are the GPS
- 18:43antennas on these watches and what kind
- 18:45of tracks can you get from any of these
- 18:47watches including all these other
- 18:49garments I have here so instead of going
- 18:50through every single model and telling
- 18:52you how accurate or inaccurate it is I'm
- 18:54just going to generalize this and say
- 18:56that if you're a beginner looking to get
- 18:58into a Garmin or an Apple Watch I
- 19:00wouldn't even worry about GPS accuracy
- 19:02at this point most of the watches on the
- 19:04table here have something called dual
- 19:07band multi-band multi signal
- 19:09multifrequency it's a nice way of saying
- 19:12that they're some of the most accurate
- 19:13on the market and yes some are better
- 19:16than others for example I've had really
- 19:17good luck with the Apple watch Ultra 2
- 19:19the Garmin forer 965 here the Epic Pro
- 19:22are all really good when it comes to GPS
- 19:24accuracy but largely all the watches I
- 19:26have here are pretty good and if you buy
- 19:28a recent generation Garmin or Apple
- 19:31watch I would not worry about GPS
- 19:33accuracy again there's going to be some
- 19:35Nuance there like some are better than
- 19:37others but if you're just getting into
- 19:39this it's not something that's going to
- 19:40really matter to you with GPS accuracy
- 19:42out of the way let a good segue into
- 19:44Optical heart rate sensor accuracy
- 19:46because of course all these watches do
- 19:48have a heart rate sensor on the back of
- 19:50them however they're not all created
- 19:52equal and that's where things again get
- 19:54a little bit confusing on the Garment
- 19:55side of things because they've had so
- 19:57many different heart rate sensors
- 19:58throughout the years now for the purpose
- 20:00of this video we're just going to focus
- 20:01on their latest generation of heart rate
- 20:03sensors and here I have the Gen 5 sensor
- 20:05on the left on this epics Pro and on the
- 20:07right we have the Gen 4 heart rate
- 20:09sensor there are some differences
- 20:10between the two on the New Gen 5 sensor
- 20:13there's a couple of new features for
- 20:15example the Gen 5 sensor can pick up
- 20:17your skin temperature while you're
- 20:18sleeping throughout the night and that
- 20:20can determine whether or not you're
- 20:22coming down with something and getting
- 20:23sick or even if you're overtraining the
- 20:25Gen 5 heart rate sensor also has ECG or
- 20:27electrocardio built-in while the Gen 4
- 20:30heart rate sensor does not now in my
- 20:32testing so far both of these sensors
- 20:34have performed really well but again
- 20:36there are a lot of variables that play
- 20:38into accuracy with Optical heart rate
- 20:40sensors from having tattoos to the color
- 20:42of your skin to how dense the hair is on
- 20:44your skin there's a lot that plays a
- 20:46role in it so something that works well
- 20:47for me might not work well for you all I
- 20:50can do here is share my opinion and what
- 20:51I've seen in my testing so far jumping
- 20:53over to the Apple watch side of things
- 20:55of course they do have Optical heart
- 20:56rate sensors as well and if you buy an
- 20:58Apple watch Ultra 2 or the Apple Watch
- 21:00series 9 these will come equipped with
- 21:02ECG or electroc cardiogram built in just
- 21:05like on the Garmin gen5 sensor another
- 21:07weird thing that happened on Apple watch
- 21:09is that they were actually sued by a
- 21:11company called Massimo a little while
- 21:13ago they kind of blew up and they ended
- 21:15up having to remove the feature of their
- 21:17spo2 sensor or blood oxygen saturation
- 21:20sensor from the back of the watch and
- 21:21they did that from a software level if
- 21:23you had a watch prior to this it would
- 21:25still work and if you buy a used watch
- 21:27with it enabled it'll still work for you
- 21:29but if you go out to like Apple store or
- 21:31Best Buy or whatever you're not going to
- 21:32have that feature so again just keep
- 21:34that in mind is it useful for everybody
- 21:37some people yes but for me I never
- 21:39really use the spo2 feature so I'm not
- 21:41really worried about it and when it
- 21:42comes to heart rate sensor accuracy from
- 21:44both Garmin and Apple watch which one is
- 21:46better well again this is kind of go
- 21:48going to go back to the conversation I
- 21:50had with GPS accuracy if you're just
- 21:52getting into this and you're not
- 21:53somebody who's going to be looking at
- 21:55every little nitty-gritty detail you
- 21:57know looking at every run or ride in
- 21:59analyzing that heart rate track the
- 22:01accuracy is not going to be something
- 22:02you're even going to notice and the
- 22:04final Topic in this video that we have
- 22:06to talk about is going to be battery
- 22:08life that's where Garmin is basically a
- 22:10landslide Victory when it comes to
- 22:12battery life because most of these
- 22:14watches I have here will last you on a
- 22:16single charge you know 5 days up to 30
- 22:19days without even batting an eye they
- 22:21they're really good in terms of battery
- 22:23life now if we go over to the Apple side
- 22:25of things that's where things get a
- 22:26little less impressive because something
- 22:29like the Apple Watch series 9 the series
- 22:318 the series 7 that'll last about a day
- 22:33on a single charge so with these watches
- 22:35you will need to charge them up every
- 22:37single day to keep using them and on the
- 22:39Apple watch Ultra 2 here you can get two
- 22:42to three days out of it it has a much
- 22:43bigger battery but again not super
- 22:45impressive when you compare it to
- 22:47something like the epics Pro 51 here
- 22:49which can go about a month on a single
- 22:51charge that's using it regularly for
- 22:53runs as well okay with all that being
- 22:55said with all those topics out of the
- 22:56way which one is right for you and like
- 22:59I said at the beginning of this video I
- 23:01can't really answer that for you however
- 23:03I can summarize in my opinion who these
- 23:06two watches are designed for so on the
- 23:08Garmin side of things Garmin are really
- 23:10designed for Fitness and Wellness
- 23:12focused people at their Forefront if
- 23:14you're somebody who's an avid Runner
- 23:16cyclist climber Trail Runner whatever
- 23:18the Garmin watch is probably going to
- 23:20suit you a little bit better than the
- 23:22Apple watch on the other hand if you are
- 23:24somebody who's very active maybe you are
- 23:26a runner you're running a few times a
- 23:29week but you also want a really useful
- 23:31Smartwatch you don't want have to bring
- 23:32your phone with you everywhere you want
- 23:34to play back music to your earbuds phone
- 23:36free and take and make phone calls
- 23:37without having your phone on you that's
- 23:39where the Apple watch is a really
- 23:41compelling option because it does a lot
- 23:43more as a smartwatch compared to a
- 23:45Garmin but it's not quite as Fitness
- 23:47focused first compared to a Garmin with
- 23:49that said though that's not to say one
- 23:51is better than the other or one can do
- 23:53things that the other one can't because
- 23:54again with the Apple App Store you can
- 23:56download an app for just about
- 23:58everything there's so many apps out
- 23:59there to fill the gaps and with enough
- 24:02apps on the Apple watch Ultra 2 you can
- 24:03basically have the same functionality
- 24:05between both watches and at the end of
- 24:07the day it's really going to boil down
- 24:09to your personal preference and which
- 24:11one's right for you all I'm trying to do
- 24:13here is lay out the facts and share my
- 24:15opinions on who is right for these two
- 24:17watches and hopefully hopefully that
- 24:19helped you in some way okay that was a
- 24:21lot that was a long- winded video and
- 24:23I'm sorry for the dense nature of this
- 24:25video but it had to be done I tried to
- 24:27answer all the questions I'm sure I
- 24:29missed some out there but hopefully you
- 24:30found it helpful and if you did find it
- 24:32helpful please consider going down and
- 24:34giving me a thumbs up and subscribing to
- 24:36my channel down below so you don't miss
- 24:37more videos from me in the future I
- 24:38would really appreciate that and while

- 24:59helpful and uh I'll see you in the next
