- 0:00Morning, Da Ting!
- 0:01>> We’re going to share our experience
- 0:03with the Watch Ultra 4 and Apple Watch
- 0:05S12.
- 0:06>> Oh, it’s really noticeable.
- 0:08>> Alright, let’s go straight to the
- 0:10intro. Did you end up with a dud tech
- 0:13purchase? Afraid of getting lost in
- 0:15Japan? Don’t worry, I’m your tech
- 0:17and travel consultant. I test AI EVs

- 0:25any first-hand info. This time, when I
- 0:28switched from the S11 to the S12, one
- 0:31thing that really stood out was that
- 0:33transferring my watch usually takes a
- 0:36long time,
- 0:37>> but this time, the transfer took less
- 0:39than half the usual time.
- 0:41>> That’s impressive. Yeah, even though
- 0:43the apps download gradually after the
- 0:45transfer, everything else moved really
- 0:47quickly. Also, I think the battery life
- 0:50is actually quite good. Combined with
- 0:52its charging speed—people used to say
- 0:54this watch couldn’t last a full day,
- 0:57which was a real pain point.
- 1:00>> But for me, using the Wi-Fi version,
- 1:03after 24 hours of use, I still have 65%
- 1:07battery left. However, I have to
- 1:10mention, it might be because, first,
- 1:11I’m not constantly saying, "Oh, I'm
- 1:13starting a workout, time to run a
- 1:15marathon," or anything like that.
- 1:17>> Or listening to music all the time.
- 1:19>> Right, I’m not listening to music
- 1:21either, but I use it normally—
- 1:23checking messages, replying
- 1:25occasionally, tracking my walking, and
- 1:27recording my sleep. But there is a
- 1:29scenario where, if you use the LTE
- 1:31version—like a friend of ours whose
- 1:33kid uses it for school—it drains the
- 1:35battery very quickly because it’s
- 1:37constantly searching for a signal. I
- 1:39use the Ultra 4, which has a larger
- 1:41battery, and when the director and I
- 1:42went on a business trip, I only charged
- 1:44my Apple Watch once every three days.
- 1:45>> Oh, that’s because your battery is
- 1:47naturally much larger.
- 1:48>> But, consider another thing: there’s
- 1:50a major update where it checks your
- 1:52heart rate every five seconds. Since my
- 1:55heart rate is a bit faster because I'm
- 1:57getting older,
- 1:58>> I’m old now, so I check my heart rate
- 2:00every now and then. Look at it right
- 2:02now.
- 2:02>> Doesn't that make you anxious?
- 2:03>> It’s 111 right now.
- 2:05>> Mine is only 88. Right, your heart rate
- 2:07is healthy.
- 2:08>> Yeah, my resting heart rate when I just
- 2:09wake up is about 90.
- 2:11>> And then, whenever I start working or
- 2:12walking fast or something, my heart
- 2:14rate usually lands around 110 to 120.
- 2:16>> So you can actually monitor your own
- 2:18heart.
- 2:18>> Yeah, it’s actually very important
- 2:19for me, and I originally thought...
- 2:21>> Your heart rate is too high.
- 2:22>> Too high, really? No, I initially
- 2:25thought, would this also consume a lot
- 2:26of power? But actually, it doesn't. I
- 2:29only charge it once every three days,
- 2:30and I've noticed the charging speed is
- 2:32even faster this time. Yeah, before, I
- 2:36might go take a shower, and given my
- 2:38habits, I just charge it while I'm
- 2:39using the bathroom, and by the time I
- 2:42come out, it's charged, so I can wear
- 2:44it through the night until the next day
- 2:46when I shower again. But look, I just
- 2:50went in for a quick shower and came out
- 2:53, and it was already fully charged
- 2:55because I was at 65%before I started
- 2:57charging, so it filled up really
- 2:59quickly. So, the charging speed is
- 3:01genuinely fast, and another part that
- 3:03Tam-san should find quite impressive is
- 3:05a major update this time called the
- 3:07Readiness Score. Hey, why didn't you
- 3:08mention that Readiness Score when you
- 3:10were filming the unboxing? It's because
- 3:12it requires seven days of wear. Right,
- 3:14it's actually a bit like tracking a
- 3:16menstrual cycle; you have to wear it
- 3:18for a full seven days. It measures your
- 3:22body's vital signs, temperature, heart
- 3:24rate, and things like that, recording
- 3:27your long-term average status before it
- 3:29gives you the Readiness Score.
- 3:34>> Oh, so we actually recorded our screen
- 3:36at home yesterday, let's take a look.
- 3:38Okay, let's look at Tam's Readiness
- 3:41Score. He's pressing it now.
- 3:43>> Press it, and then...
- 3:44>> It's right there on the side, just here
- 3:46.
- 3:46>> Okay, tap it. Hey, it's an 8, do you
- 3:48know what that means?
- 3:50>> Yeah, on a scale of one to ten, you're
- 3:51an eight. So, what does eight mean?
- 3:53Look at the stuff underneath.
- 3:54>> The three indicators below, they're all
- 3:56checked off. Okay, let's take a look.
- 3:58>> If you swipe up a bit on the side, it
- 4:00says, hey, you slept really well last
- 4:02night, you've met the indicator for
- 4:03being well-rested, and look, it tells
- 4:05you your fitness readiness and sleep
- 4:07score are very high, so have you
- 4:09realized how important it is to sleep
- 4:11well? Yes, it can also...
- 4:13>> Cause inflammation.
- 4:14>> Did you take sleep powder?
- 4:15>> I didn't yesterday, and I already slept
- 4:17well.
- 4:17>> You slept that well without taking
- 4:18anything yesterday, OK.
- 4:19>> If I usually take it, I'd get 100
- 4:21points. Why does it have a cycle
- 4:22tracking feature here? What does that
- 4:24mean?
- 4:24>> Because I wear it every day, it tracks
- 4:26things like your body temperature, and
- 4:28records when your period starts each
- 4:30month, so it can estimate when your
- 4:32next cycle is coming. Since I started
- 4:34wearing this watch on day one, I've had
- 4:36it on every day, so it detects it
- 4:38automatically.
- 4:39>> Oh, and it also says you can view more
- 4:41on your iPhone.
- 4:42>> Yes, you can see more in the Health app
- 4:44.
- 4:44>> I want to see your sleep data.
- 4:46>> Here comes the sleep master.
- 4:47>> Wow, that's really high. Look, it's
- 4:50telling you
- 4:51>> REM sleep.
- 4:52>> Yeah, and look, my time awake is quite
- 4:55low. If you're awake more often, it
- 4:57means you aren't sleeping well, so I
- 4:59think the Apple Watch helps you
- 5:01understand your usual sleep quality.
- 5:03Some people think having many dreams
- 5:05means poor sleep, but that's not true.
- 5:07I tell you, I have at least five dreams
- 5:09a day.
- 5:09>> Also, we can see the heart rate updates
- 5:11every five seconds. It was 92 just now,
- 5:13and now it's 91; it's really changing
- 5:15constantly.
- 5:16>> It's detecting again. It's detecting
- 5:18again. It updates every five seconds,
- 5:20which I think is very important.
- 5:21>> For readiness scores, it's actually
- 5:23recommended to wear it almost 24 hours
- 5:25a day, except when charging. For
- 5:27example, we have a friend who wanted to
- 5:28slack off on the weekend, so he didn't
- 5:30want to wear his watch and just left it
- 5:32aside, but then he thought he might as
- 5:34well wear it before bed.
- 5:35>> To check his readiness score.
- 5:37>> Eh, nope. Even though it tracked while
- 5:39he was sleeping, there was no readiness
- 5:41score after he woke up. Why is that?
- 5:43>> It probably needs to confirm your vital
- 5:45signs throughout the whole day,
- 5:46including your heart rate and other
- 5:48indicators, to synthesize the data. But
- 5:50I've encountered a situation where, for
- 5:51instance, I slept quite well, and after
- 5:53waking up, I immediately give myself a
- 5:55score. I check, "Oh, my readiness score
- 5:57is eight," but do you know what? As
- 5:59soon as I get to the office, it
- 6:01immediately drops to seven.
- 6:02>> So it's possible for it to change at
- 6:04any moment, right?
- 6:05>> And if you get lazy and don't wear it,
- 6:06the readiness score won't show up.
- 6:07>> Right, right. Then it'll be easy for me
- 6:10to check, because you won't have a
- 6:11readiness score.
- 6:12>> Then you'll find yourself saying, "Boss
- 6:13, my readiness score for today is just
- 6:15'I don't want to work'."
- 6:16>> Actually, this time they've updated to
- 6:18a brand-new dynamic app grid interface.
- 6:21This means that when you press the
- 6:23Digital Crown, the biggest difference
- 6:25in this dynamic grid compared to before
- 6:27is that it puts the apps you use most
- 6:29often or most recently right at the
- 6:31front. Right, it's laid out more like a
- 6:33plum blossom pattern.
- 6:34>> Yes, exactly. So you don't have to
- 6:37search through that dense, cluttered
- 6:38mess like before, right? You can turn
- 6:40the Digital Crown to browse other apps,
- 6:42and just tap the icon to open them. But
- 6:44let me ask, do you know why I'm
- 6:46bringing this up?
- 6:47>> Some people just still prefer the list
- 6:49view. Yeah, they still want to go back
- 6:51to how it was before. Can you go back
- 6:53to the past?
- 6:53>> You can. You go to Settings, then App
- 6:56View, and there's a toggle for List
- 6:58View to switch it back. But my advice
- 7:00is to try out the dynamic grid
- 7:02interface for a few days, because the
- 7:05system learns.
- 7:06>> Right.
- 7:07>> Once it learns and you feel it's okay,
- 7:09you can just leave it. If you don't
- 7:10like it, it's simple to switch back to
- 7:12the list.
- 7:12>> Because, in fact, look, even though it
- 7:14displays your most used ones on the
- 7:16surface,
- 7:17>> if you swipe up, it immediately changes
- 7:19back to your original view. It's just a
- 7:21matter of habit, right? And isn't there
- 7:23another habit that seems to have
- 7:24changed, too? Like chatting? For
- 7:27example—though I think this might be
- 7:29compatibility between the watch and the
- 7:32apps—like LINE.
- 7:33>> Take me, for instance, I use WeChat and
- 7:36LINE a lot. And the biggest thing I
- 7:41noticed before was that if I were
- 7:43chatting with you on my computer for a
- 7:45long time, and I wanted to go back and
- 7:47check on my watch while doing something
- 7:49else, it usually took a while to sync
- 7:52up to the latest messages. Oh.
- 7:56>> But now it’s become super fast, it
- 7:58syncs pretty much in real-time, and
- 8:00that goes for LINE too. But I think
- 8:02LINE has a bit of a drawback—you know
- 8:04how we usually have pinned messages in
- 8:06LINE, right?
- 8:07>> But they might not show up as pinned on
- 8:09the watch. The LINE login this time is
- 8:11a bit laggy at first, but there are
- 8:12improvements after the update. Before,
- 8:14if you didn't check LINE on your watch
- 8:16for a while, it would auto-logout, and
- 8:18you’d have to scan a QR code to get
- 8:19back in, but now you don't have to. Now
- 8:21you just tap it, and it'll say "No
- 8:23activity, time's up, you need to log
- 8:25back in," right? You just hit confirm,
- 8:26and it logs you back in. But it seems
- 8:28like you noticed something is missing,
- 8:29is that right?
- 8:30>> Oh, people have been talking about it
- 8:32recently. I don't use it myself, but
- 8:33some say it's a bit of a shame that
- 8:35it's gone, which is...
- 8:36>> This is actually something the director
- 8:37and I both use, although the director
- 8:38...
- 8:38>> Walkie-Talkie.
- 8:40>> Yes.
- 8:41>> The Walkie-Talkie feature is actually
- 8:42gone!
- 8:43>> They removed it, didn't they? Has
- 8:44everyone noticed? Well, there's another
- 8:47update this time, which is a new "Find"
- 8:49app that integrates everything—
- 8:51finding items, finding people, finding
- 8:53devices—it’s all combined. No, so
- 8:55if moms or wives want to keep tabs on
- 8:57their sneaky kids or husbands, they can
- 9:00use the "Find" app, right?
- 9:02>> Yes, and you can go right here to find
- 9:04people. In the top left corner, if you
- 9:06want to find your devices or items,
- 9:08just tap it and you can switch between
- 9:10them. It’s integrated into the watch
- 9:12now. Also, you mentioned something
- 9:13special about it, let’s go in and
- 9:15take a look. Hey, you said you found a
- 9:17little secret this time that guys don't
- 9:18understand?
- 9:19>> Guys don't get it. It's for women, so
- 9:21if guys see a woman's watch, they
- 9:22should pay a little attention. It has
- 9:24cycle tracking, which it's always had,
- 9:26>> Tracking, right.
- 9:27>> And before, it was mostly just, oh,
- 9:29green or red, showing your...
- 9:30>> Right, right, right.
- 9:32>> And I'll show you, look at how it
- 9:34changes, oh.
- 9:35>> When your mood is at its peak, like, is
- 9:38it very...
- 9:38>> When it's at its peak and there's a lot
- 9:40of, it's still red, everyone be careful
- 9:42, it's very red.
- 9:42>> And then, oh, great, your life is safe
- 9:44again, right?
- 9:45>> Oh, this is so cool. You have to be
- 9:48extra careful, and I just find it
- 9:50hilarious. You can really feel those
- 9:52little changes telling you when your
- 9:54mood is a bit more intense.
- 9:56>> Hey, I think that surprise detection is
- 9:58just a minor update, I feel like...
- 10:00>> That’s very important for men, you
- 10:02know.
- 10:02>> Because if I see that red indicator,
- 10:04I’ll know to be careful about what I
- 10:05say today.
- 10:06>> Yeah.
- 10:07>> But I feel like the bigger change is
- 10:09the music detection. We tested it for
- 10:12everyone this weekend; not only can it
- 10:14detect music at any time, but it also
- 10:16plays it directly on the watch after
- 10:19identification.
- 10:20>> In the past, if we wanted to identify a
- 10:22song, we had to tap it first, right?
- 10:24But this time, it identifies the music
- 10:26directly in the background.
- 10:27>> It emphasizes being very fast, look, I
- 10:30...Look, instantly.
- 10:33>> It just pops up.
- 10:35>> It appeared immediately.
- 10:36>> Wow, that's fast.
- 10:38>> Because when you hear music, you no
- 10:39longer have to scramble to pull out
- 10:40your phone or tap around slowly; it’s
- 10:42constantly listening.
- 10:43>> For example, when we go to stores like
- 10:44A&F, it can identify it right away,
- 10:46right? In watchOS 11, there’s also a
- 10:48system that judges battery life. If
- 10:50you’re low, it will proactively
- 10:52suggest ways to extend your battery,
- 10:54like temporarily disabling the
- 10:55double-tap gesture. Do you know how to
- 10:57use the double-tap gesture?
- 10:59>> It’s like this. Yes, you unlock it,
- 11:01double tap to enter, and double tap
- 11:03again to stack, where you can switch
- 11:05things. It will temporarily turn off
- 11:07the double-tap gesture and enable those
- 11:09fitness training reminders, you know?
- 11:12Like when we’re halfway through a
- 11:13walk. Are you currently doing some...
- 11:16>> Doing an outdoor walk, yes, yes,
- 11:17that’s right, or when you raise your
- 11:19wrist to call Siri. So when the
- 11:21power-saving suggestion notification
- 11:22appears, you can check which features
- 11:24are about to be turned off, then decide
- 11:26whether to apply them. You can also
- 11:28normally press the side button to open
- 11:30the Control Center, tap the battery
- 11:32percentage, and then turn on low power
- 11:34mode. I’ll say this, if you turn it
- 11:36on, Always-On display, some background
- 11:37measurements, and gesture features will
- 11:39be restricted. No kidding, because that
- 11:42really...
- 11:43>> Well, this is to save power. And
- 11:46there’s another one I think you’ll
- 11:48really notice, if you’re someone who
- 11:50loves wearing headphones at home, or if
- 11:52your hearing is a bit weaker.
- 11:54>> Take my mother-in-law, for example,
- 11:56she’s a little hard of hearing, or if
- 11:58someone’s hearing is a bit weak, they
- 12:00often miss what people are saying or
- 12:02can't hear the doorbell. Doesn't that
- 12:04happen to people often, or sometimes
- 12:06you might even miss a baby crying,
- 12:08right? Actually, this is a feature
- 12:10exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 10
- 12:12and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
- 12:14>> Yeah, it uses your watch to detect
- 12:16things, for instance, if it hears a
- 12:18doorbell, it alerts you, or if there's
- 12:20a baby crying, it lets you know. Oh,
- 12:22yes, that's it right here. However, to
- 12:25set this up, you need to open your
- 12:27iPhone, go to Settings, then
- 12:28Accessibility, go to Sound Recognition,
- 12:30and select Sound Recognition. Once
- 12:32enabled, the system will first download
- 12:35the sound recognition data. Then you
- 12:37tap on "Sounds," and you can toggle on
- 12:39the items you want the Apple Watch to
- 12:41help you detect, and once you enable
- 12:43them, you're all set. For example, if
- 12:45you're wearing headphones and a baby
- 12:47starts crying, your watch will...
- 12:49>> Or if someone rings the doorbell and
- 12:51you haven't noticed. Exactly, that's
- 12:53right. But Apple reminds us that Sound
- 12:55Recognition doesn't replace formal
- 12:57alarms or emergency safety equipment,
- 12:59so don't treat it as a tool to rely on
- 13:01entirely, but it does offer this
- 13:02helpful function. There's another
- 13:04feature you'll use often when traveling
- 13:07, especially in Japan.
- 13:08>> It’s the transit card feature. We
- 13:10used to carry things like Suica or
- 13:12PASMO cards, and if your hands were
- 13:14full, you'd still have to take them out
- 13:17to tap, but now you can just tap with
- 13:19your watch and go.
- 13:20>> Credit cards work too.
- 13:22>> Credit cards work too, and even when
- 13:24the exchange rate is low, you can top
- 13:25up directly through your watch.
- 13:27>> Oh, this is truly super useful.
- 13:30>> Also, personally, I usually use a
- 13:33Modular face.
- 13:34>> With a modular watch face, you can
- 13:36place several of your most frequently
- 13:38used apps right on the screen.
- 13:40>> I see the one at the very top is
- 13:42labeled for recording. Yes, and do you
- 13:44know why? Previously, there was a
- 13:46flooding incident at our company, and
- 13:48to avoid any misunderstandings, I would
- 13:49just press this record button. If you
- 13:51really need to gather evidence, or if
- 13:53you need to record something on the
- 13:54spot immediately and feel awkward about
- 13:56holding up a phone, you can just tap
- 13:57the watch to record.
- 13:58>> The recording feature is really handy.
- 14:00>> Now, I want to mention one more feature
- 14:02,
- 14:02>> Hmm,
- 14:03>> After that, we'll wrap things up.
- 14:04>> Is it seriesAI?
- 14:05>> Alright, it's not out yet, so that's
- 14:07all, bye-bye.
- 14:08>> Bye. Bye.
