- 0:00In today's tutorial, we're learning how
- 0:01to make these animated tabs in
- 0:03PowerPoint in just a few minutes with
- 0:05your own custom created content. And as
- 0:08soon as you click, the next tab will
- 0:10open up and slide to the left. You can
- 0:12do this with however many tabs that you
- 0:13like, and any [music] content can be
- 0:15added. It's a very flexible way of
- 0:17adding content to your slide and showing
- 0:19it in a dynamic way. You can also click
- 0:22once more and have a full loop of the
- 0:24presentation. If you want to follow
- 0:26along in the tutorial, this is the color
- 0:28palette that I've used. So you can pause
- 0:30the video and add them to your slides.
- 0:32And in case you want to save some time
- 0:33or download the template, I have linked
- 0:35it in description below. This tutorial
- 0:37consists of multiple parts. First, I
- 0:40will create the individual tabs with the
- 0:41content. Then I will learn how to stack
- 0:44them on top of each other. Next, we will
- 0:46animate [music] them using the morph
- 0:47transition. And finally, there's also an
- 0:50alternative that if you don't have
- 0:51morph, you can also do it with older
- 0:53versions of PowerPoint. And we're
- 0:54starting from a blank slide. First thing
- 0:56you want to do is want to go to the
- 0:58design tab. Go to varants and here we
- 1:00choose the color palette that we like.
- 1:02In our case, it's the bright blue. Go to
- 1:05the home tab again. And now let's format
- 1:07the background. Right click, format
- 1:09background. And we want to go for a
- 1:11gradient fill. I'm choosing this radial
- 1:15gradient fill. So the bottom one where
- 1:16we have slightly lighter tint in the
- 1:18middle and gradually gets darker towards
- 1:20the outside, but it's very subtle. Next,
- 1:22we want to add a rectangle. So go to
- 1:24shapes, add a rectangle, and drag it
- 1:26from the top right corner about 3/4 of
- 1:29the way to the left. We're going to
- 1:31remove the outline and give this the
- 1:34darkest fill or the second darkest fill
- 1:37of blue. Next, we want to add a text
- 1:39box. So select text box and type in the
- 1:42number one. Select it and we're going
- 1:44for the font chunk five. You can choose
- 1:46whichever font you like, but I kind of
- 1:48like this font for this effect. Give it
- 1:50the same blue color. And for the font
- 1:52size, you can select the large numbers.
- 1:55So let's try 72, but I think it can be
- 1:58bigger. Here you can see that 96 is the
- 2:02largest number available. If you want to
- 2:03go higher, you can just click this font
- 2:06size increase button. Or you can type
- 2:08the number in manually. Let's say 120,
- 2:10and press enter to have that number. I'm
- 2:12going to position it in the middle of
- 2:13the slide, maybe slightly upwards, and
- 2:15then connect the letter to the tab. So,
- 2:19I'm going to place it right about here.
- 2:22Now, let's also do some formatting of
- 2:23the slides. Right click on the shape,
- 2:26format shape, and we're going to go for
- 2:28a shadow effect and click the standard
- 2:31presets where the shadow drops to the
- 2:33left. Now, select the number, go to text
- 2:36options, also add a shadow, and have the
- 2:39same angle on the text. This way, it
- 2:42kind of stands out a bit more against
- 2:43the background. And I think that looks
- 2:45really nice. So, this is the first tab
- 2:47that we have created. Now, let's add
- 2:48some content to the slide. Select the
- 2:50text box, drag it on the screen. Call it
- 2:5301 or type in 01. The font, we're going
- 2:56to use trunk 5 as well. And then we're
- 2:59going to use a white font. Center to the
- 3:02middle. And maybe let's go for font size
- 3:04150. I think that looks quite good. And
- 3:07we're going to position everything a bit
- 3:09to the left of the slides. So, not
- 3:11entirely in the middle because we're
- 3:12going to pull out the tabs and we need
- 3:14some space on each side. Add another
- 3:18text box. And here we're going to type
- 3:20in your subtitle or title. I'm just
- 3:22going to use dummy text. Lauram ipsum
- 3:25dollar. And for this font, I'm choosing
- 3:27Monserat. I think it looks nice. Go to
- 3:30sub fonts and let's use extra bold.
- 3:32Center it in the middle. And also make
- 3:34it white. Now, this is quite a harsh
- 3:36contrast. So, I'm going to select the
- 3:38large text, right click, format shape,
- 3:41text options, and then add some
- 3:43transparency to it. This way, it's way
- 3:45more subtle. Let's put it on 75 or let's
- 3:49do 80. And then this font, I think we
- 3:51can position it somewhere on top. And I
- 3:53think that gives a quite a nice effect.
- 3:56Let's add one more text box for the
- 3:57content. And then add some demi text.
- 4:00Reduce the font size. And we're going to
- 4:02center it in the middle. I kind of like
- 4:04to align the text box roughly with the
- 4:07title. I think that gives a cool balance
- 4:10to the slide. So let's position it here
- 4:12in the middle. And for the font, I'm
- 4:14using Monzerat, but I think this looks a
- 4:16bit too heavy. It really depends on the
- 4:18screen that you're using. So, I'm going
- 4:19for extra light on this one. And
- 4:21increase it slightly. There we go. Now,
- 4:23as a finishing touch, you can go to
- 4:25insert, add some icons, and here, let's
- 4:28type in network. You can use your custom
- 4:30icons. I'm just going to select this
- 4:32one. Graphics will make it white. And
- 4:35then go back to the graphics format tab.
- 4:37And also give this a 75% transparency.
- 4:41and then position it at the bottom of
- 4:42your slide. If you hold the control key,
- 4:44you can scroll backwards to zoom out or
- 4:46you can use this toggle switch to play
- 4:48around with it. So, I'm going to make it
- 4:50slightly smaller and position it in the
- 4:53middle. You can select all the elements
- 4:55and play around with the positioning.
- 4:58I'll do something like this. We have
- 5:00equal space on the top and the bottom.
- 5:02And this gives a well balanced slide.
- 5:05Going to close these tabs. And this is
- 5:06the first tab with content that we have
- 5:09created. Now we're going to group
- 5:11everything together. So I'm going to
- 5:12group the text. Ctrl G to group it. And
- 5:16I'm also going to group the tab and the
- 5:18number. And then I'm going to select
- 5:20everything. So both the tab group and
- 5:23the text group. And group that one as
- 5:25well. You can do it in once, but I like
- 5:26to split it up. So if you have changes
- 5:28afterwards, it's easy to select the
- 5:31groups. Now we're going to duplicate the
- 5:34slide. You can right click duplicate or
- 5:36press Ctrl D a few times. Now we want to
- 5:39go to the second one. And here we just
- 5:41type in the number two and then position
- 5:43[music] it so that it sort of meets the
- 5:45border. Of course, that means we also
- 5:47need to change the content. And we're
- 5:49going to select the rectangle and also
- 5:51change the colors. I'm going one tint
- 5:54lighter for each one. And I'll do the
- 5:57same with the fonts so they nicely match
- 5:59up with each other and blend into one
- 6:01another. Go to number three. Change the
- 6:05number. You can also play around with
- 6:06the arrow key to just nudge it to the
- 6:09side. Change this number as well. And
- 6:12also make this one one tint lighter. Oh,
- 6:14that has to be two tints because we want
- 6:16number three already. And same for the
- 6:18text. And number four, we do the exact
- 6:21same thing. Change content. And here you
- 6:24will see if we choose that lightest
- 6:26color, it's going to be this one. Same
- 6:28for the text. We can see that the
- 6:30contrast is a bit too small. So, I'm
- 6:33going to select the text elements and
- 6:35I'm going to give it a dark fill. So,
- 6:38you can choose whichever one you like. I
- 6:39think the darkest one will look nicest.
- 6:41And then this one, of course, we want to
- 6:43give it transparency again. Let's try
- 6:4580%. And do the same with the color. So,
- 6:48give that the dark color as well with
- 6:50the icon. And this is a lot more
- 6:52readable. Now, you can see that we have
- 6:55one tab for each or one grouped item for
- 6:59each tab. And that is the result that we
- 7:00want for now. And now let's look at how
- 7:03we can stack them on top of each other.
- 7:05So for stacking them on top of each
- 7:06other, I like to duplicate the first
- 7:08slide so we always have a working file
- 7:11to work with. And then go to number two,
- 7:14the second tab. Ctrl C or Ctrl X and
- 7:18Ctrl + V on the previous one. And then
- 7:20just drag it to the side. This way we
- 7:23have two grouped items. One is at the
- 7:25bottom and two we're now overlaying on
- 7:27top. I'm not looking at the position on
- 7:30the slide. So you'll see this one
- 7:31overlaps the slight border. That doesn't
- 7:34matter. We're just going to position the
- 7:36tabs. So here we have some spacing
- 7:38between the first tab and the number.
- 7:40We're going to repeat it for the number
- 7:43three. Paste that on the slide. And
- 7:45we're going to position it at about the
- 7:47same distance. And then repeat it one
- 7:49more [music] time for number four. And
- 7:51then pull that group to the side. There
- 7:54we go. Now we hold the control key and
- 7:56scroll backwards or use that toggle
- 7:58shift key. Select the four grouped items
- 8:02and drag them slightly downwards. This
- 8:04way we can see the border of the slide.
- 8:06Hold the shift key to move them in a
- 8:07straight line to the right side. And
- 8:10then you give it about the same distance
- 8:12as the taps. So you want this lightest
- 8:15tab to be about the same distance as
- 8:16this one. So let's put it here. And then
- 8:19we shift it back to the top. And this
- 8:22way if we increase this preview here, we
- 8:24can see that they nicely align at the
- 8:26right of the slide. Now let's add some
- 8:28content. So, I'm going to add a title
- 8:30here. Let's type in tabs. Going to use
- 8:33the font Monzerat. Use a sub font black.
- 8:36Make it white. Increase the size. Let's
- 8:39try 100. Maybe a bit more. There we go.
- 8:43Also, for this one, I'm going to format
- 8:45shape and add some shadow to the text.
- 8:49That way, it just stands out a bit more
- 8:51against the background. And it's also in
- 8:54line with the tabs that we have. Copy.
- 8:57Make it a few sticks smaller. Center it
- 8:59in the middle. And we go for the sign
- 9:01painter font. And let's call it
- 9:05animated. You can use a high contrast
- 9:07color like the orange. And then place it
- 9:09on top. You can overlap them if you
- 9:12want, but then I would suggest that you
- 9:14also change the angle of the shadow and
- 9:17play around with the size. So the
- 9:18distance we're going to increase it so
- 9:19it falls on [music] the text below. I
- 9:22always like that effect. Increase
- 9:23transparency and the blur. I think this
- 9:26gives quite a cool effect. You can play
- 9:28around with the settings and position it
- 9:31however you like. So, this gives us
- 9:32quite a cool slide. I'm just going to
- 9:34put it on full screen. And we see that
- 9:36we have a title and the numbers on the
- 9:38side. What I'm going to do is I'm going
- 9:40to right click and send those to back.
- 9:43Send to back. That way they are behind
- 9:45all the layers or they should be. So,
- 9:47let's do that again. Send to back. And
- 9:50this way they are behind all the
- 9:51different layers. And now we're going to
- 9:53look at the animation part of the slide
- 9:55first with the morph transition. And for
- 9:58that, we're going to duplicate the
- 9:59slide. Let me get rid of those. And now
- 10:02on the first step, I'm going to shift
- 10:04the text to the right so it disappears
- 10:07behind everything. And I'm going to
- 10:09select the first step and pull that one
- 10:11out. I'm going to pull it out until it's
- 10:14about the same size to the right, the
- 10:16distance as to the left of the content,
- 10:18so it's nicely balanced. I'm going to
- 10:20duplicate once more and repeat for the
- 10:23second step until you have the distance
- 10:25that is equal here as well as here. So I
- 10:28think that looks good. Copy once more,
- 10:31repeat for number three and a final time
- 10:34where you repeat it for the number four.
- 10:37And what I often like to do is I copy
- 10:38the initial one and drag it to the
- 10:41bottom. Now, if we select all of the
- 10:43slice and go to animations or
- 10:45transitions and select morph, this will
- 10:48give a quite a nice effect. Now, I'm
- 10:50going to increase the duration to about
- 10:542.75.
- 10:56And let's preview what we have. And this
- 10:58is how you make this cool animated tabs
- 11:00presentation in PowerPoint where if you
- 11:02click the text disappears and the first
- 11:04tab pulls out and if you click again,
- 11:06number two will pull out. Click once
- 11:09more for the content of number three.
- 11:12And then click a final time for the
- 11:14content of number four.
- 11:17And if you click once again, you will
- 11:20loop it back to the beginning and you
- 11:21have that same starting position. Now,
- 11:24this works really well if you have the
- 11:25morph transition. Now, some of you don't
- 11:27have the latest version of PowerPoint,
- 11:29so you can also do it with older
- 11:30versions. So, now we're going to look at
- 11:32the animation part for older versions of
- 11:34PowerPoint without the morph transition.
- 11:38And for that I'm going to start with a
- 11:41clean page. I'm just going to remove
- 11:44this for now. And I'm just going to show
- 11:46you the animation part. So we have the
- 11:48four tabs. Let's remove morph. What
- 11:51we're going to do is we're going to
- 11:52select tab number one. Go to animations
- 11:55and choose path animation. We're going
- 11:58to choose for lines. And this will
- 12:00animate it. But you see it goes
- 12:02downwards. Now, this green dot is a
- 12:05starting point and the red dot is the
- 12:07ending point of the animation. So, we
- 12:08want to drag the red point until we
- 12:11position it at the end position. So, you
- 12:14can see it's sort of faded out half
- 12:16transparent, but you see the edges on
- 12:18the left are now equally to the edges on
- 12:20the right. So that you know, so that way
- 12:22you know it's perfectly positioned.
- 12:24Release it once you're happy and click
- 12:27away from the slide or from the tab. We
- 12:30select the tab number one again. And now
- 12:32we click on animation painter. This will
- 12:35copy the same the exact animation. And
- 12:38you see if we hover over one it will
- 12:39give us a different cursor. But if we
- 12:41hover over two we can click and it will
- 12:43paint the animation. We repeat this
- 12:46step. So just animation painter click on
- 12:48number three. The preview here it only
- 12:51shows one animation but you'll see in a
- 12:53second that they will line up nicely and
- 12:55repeat it a final time for number four.
- 12:58This way. If we now select the slide and
- 13:00go to preview, we can see that we have
- 13:02the same effect. So, as soon as we click
- 13:04once, we stay on the same slide, but we
- 13:07pull out the tap. Click once more and
- 13:09the second tap will animate.
- 13:12Third time, and the final [music] click,
- 13:15a fourth time, the tap will animate as
- 13:17well. For the title, if you want to keep
- 13:19that, you can give it a fade animation
- 13:20or a fly in. You can really play around
- 13:22with that. But this is how it works for
- 13:24the older versions of PowerPoint. if you
- 13:26only have the animation and not the
- 13:28morph. Thanks a lot for watching.
