Animal Lies That You Actually Believe - Part 1 — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00You may know that dogs are playful
- 0:01animals. And when a dog wags its tail,
- 0:04it's really happy. Well, that's a lie. A
- 0:08dog can wag its tail for many reasons.
- 0:10It can wag it when it's anxious, afraid,
- 0:12or even when it's angry. Yep. Don't fall
- 0:15for the trap. Even a tail wagging dog
- 0:18can bite you. We know that sugar is
- 0:20toxic to dogs, but what we don't know is
- 0:23that it's a lie. Too much sugar can be
- 0:25unhealthy for dogs, but it's not toxic.
- 0:28But these foods can be lethal for dogs.
- 0:31So don't feed these things to your dogs.
- 0:34People believe that dogs see black and
- 0:36white. That's a lie. They can see yellow
- 0:38and blue. But not being able to see
- 0:41green and red is kind of like black and
- 0:42white, though. The biggest lie about
- 0:44dogs is that they sweat through their
- 0:46tongues. Dogs do keep their tongues out,
- 0:48but it's to cool down their body. They
- 0:50actually sweat from their paws and nose.
- 0:54Though sweaty, those nose can smell
- 0:56their owners from a distance of over 10
- 0:58miles.
- 0:59Talking about smell, word around the
- 1:02town is that sharks can smell a drop of
- 1:04blood from miles away. Well, that's a
- 1:06lie. They can smell blood, but just
- 1:08within around 200 m, and even that's a
- 1:12super slow process. If a fish bleeds 100
- 1:15m away, the smell may take several
- 1:17minutes to reach the shark's nose.
- 1:19People also believe that if you get cut
- 1:21underwater, sharks will follow your
- 1:23blood scent and attack you. That's a
- 1:25lie, too. Sharks can identify if it's
- 1:28fish blood or others. Since they don't
- 1:30eat humans, they will just ignore that
- 1:32blood trail and move away. If you have
- 1:35heard that sharks don't get cancer,
- 1:36you've heard a lie. There's some rumor
- 1:39that shark cartilage is used to treat
- 1:41cancer. So, people believe they must be
- 1:43cancer proof. There's no record of shark
- 1:45cartilage curing human cancer, and
- 1:47sharks do get cancer. But these naked
- 1:50guys don't get cancer. Naked mole rats
- 1:53are almost cancer proof in their wild
- 1:55habitats. But some in captivity do get
- 1:58cancer, though. That may be due to a
- 2:00weakened immune system because of
- 2:01captivity. There's also a belief that
- 2:04naked mole rats don't feel any pain.
- 2:06Well, that's a lie. You can casually say
- 2:09they don't feel any pain in a fun way or
- 2:11as a joke. But the truth is, their
- 2:14nervous system neglects burning pain
- 2:16from acids and chili peppers. Since they
- 2:18don't eat chili peppers, that's a
- 2:20useless immunity, I guess. But they do
- 2:22feel pain from cuts, wounds, or any
- 2:25other physical pain. Just think, if an
- 2:28animal species doesn't feel any pain,
- 2:30it's sure to go extinct in no time. This
- 2:33guy is a lion. They have a majestic
- 2:35looking mane, so it seems fair to call
- 2:37them kings of the jungle. But the thing
- 2:39is, they don't actually live in the
- 2:42jungle. They live in grasslands of
- 2:44savannah with very few trees or in the
- 2:46deserts. You may know that lions are
- 2:48expert hunters and can easily take down
- 2:51a buffalo. Well, it's a lie. A single
- 2:54lion can't take down a mature buffalo.
- 2:56Also, most of the time, it's the group
- 2:58of lionesses that do the hunting. Lions
- 3:01usually chill at home and wait for the
- 3:04food. And they say a group of lions is
- 3:06called pride. What a shame. I would
- 3:09rather choose tigers as the kings of the
- 3:11jungle. And talking about tigers, if you
- 3:14remember this intro from MGM,
- 3:17yeah, that roar is a lie. This is
- 3:20actually the sound of a tiger.
- 3:24And talking about sound, if you remember
- 3:26this sound from movies,
- 3:28well, that sound is a lie. Bald eagle is
- 3:32the national bird of America. Those
- 3:34fierce eyes, majestic wings, and perfect
- 3:37dives. But when it opened its mouth,
- 3:41yeah, this that's not the sound of
- 3:44freedom and dominance. We Americans
- 3:46being Americans couldn't accept that
- 3:48pathetic squeak. So, Hollywood silently
- 3:51changed it to this sound.
- 3:54This is actually the sound of a
- 3:55redtailed hawk.
- 3:58If you have heard eagles carry small
- 3:59children, that's a lie. Eagles can't
- 4:02carry more than a few pounds. Bald
- 4:04eagles are not bald. They just have
- 4:06white hair. And if you have heard that
- 4:09eagles push their kids from the cliffs
- 4:11to force them to fly, that's a lie, too.
- 4:14In fact, parents encourage kids to fly,
- 4:17and the mother stays close to catch the
- 4:19kid if it starts to fall.
- 4:21This guy is a snake, and people believe
- 4:23these legless animals are smooth and
- 4:25slippery. Well, that's a lie. Snake's
- 4:29skin has a very dry texture and usually
- 4:31is rough to the touch. People believe
- 4:33that small snakes are more dangerous
- 4:35than adult ones. Since they can't
- 4:37control the amount of venom, they will
- 4:39deliver a high dose. That's also a lie.
- 4:42Small ones have a very low amount of
- 4:44venom and they can actually control the
- 4:46venom flow. So, adults are more
- 4:48dangerous. Many people believe that the
- 4:51rattlesnake's tail is like a moraca.
- 4:53Well, it has nothing inside and it looks
- 4:55like this. These loosely stacked parts
- 4:58make that sound.
- 5:00If you think a snake is aggressive and
- 5:02will chase you and bite you, that's not
- 5:04true. Snakes are shy by nature and try
- 5:07to flee away from humans. Why would a
- 5:09few pound snake want to fight a 150lb
- 5:12human? The biting is the last resort if
- 5:15it sees no other option. If it chases
- 5:17you, it's likely confused. It's just
- 5:20running away from you without realizing
- 5:22that you're actually running in the
- 5:23front. Snakes don't have hypnotizing
- 5:26eyes. Cartoons created that myth. Snakes
- 5:30don't drink milk. In fact, they can't
- 5:32even digest it. This is a bat and they
- 5:35rest hanging upside down. But if you
- 5:38believe that all bats hang upside down,
- 5:40that's a lie. There are six known bat
- 5:42species that actually rest in upright
- 5:44position. Yep, they have suctiontype
- 5:47cups and rest inside funnel type leaves.
- 5:51You can see the real footage here.
- 5:53Many people believe that bats are blind
- 5:56since they have super echolocations and
- 5:58usually fly at night. People believe
- 6:01that they must be blind. Some bats do
- 6:03have poor vision, but most of them have
- 6:05excellent eyesight. And many can even
- 6:08see UV light. So the idiom as blind as
- 6:12bat is a lie. I've already told you much
- 6:15about camels. Most of the people believe
- 6:18that camels are found only in desert or
- 6:20hot places and that's a lie. Bactrian
- 6:23camels are found in snowy areas. Many
- 6:26people believe that camels store water
- 6:28in their humps. I was even told that if
- 6:30people get thirsty, they will cut the
- 6:32hump of the camel and drink that water.
- 6:35Well, that's a lie. Camels actually
- 6:37store fat in their humps. That fat can
- 6:40be used as energy later. But they do
- 6:42store water in their bloodstream within
- 6:44blood plasma and RBC. That's the reason
- 6:46they don't get dehydrated easily. If you
- 6:49have heard that cows have four stomachs,
- 6:51well, that's a lie. Animals like cows or
- 6:54goats have four compartments inside one
- 6:57stomach. So, some people argue that if
- 6:59there are four compartments, how is it
- 7:01wrong to say cows have four stomachs?
- 7:04Well, our heart has four compartments,
- 7:06too. That doesn't mean we have four
- 7:08hearts. Talking about cows, we all have
- 7:11seen bull fights where bulls charge at
- 7:13red cloth.
- 7:14So people believe bulls hate red color.
- 7:17Well, I already told you in fact video
- 7:19that cows are red and green colorblind.
- 7:21So they don't see the red color. Bulls
- 7:24attack the cloth because it waves. They
- 7:27see moving cloth as a threat. They would
- 7:29attack green, blue, white, or black
- 7:31color cloth if it's waving. If the
- 7:34matador doesn't wave it, the bulls won't
- 7:36attack. Red color is used because it
- 7:38hides blood stains and looks more
- 7:40attractive than other colors. Talking
- 7:42about attractive spiders make attractive
- 7:45webs to trap their prey. But if you
- 7:47think all the spiders make webs, you are
- 7:49falling for a lie. Spider species like
- 7:52jumping spiders, wolf spiders, and
- 7:54tarantulas don't make webs. They just
- 7:57charge directly and kill insects.
- 8:00Talking about insects, many people think
- 8:02that spiders are insects. Well, it's a
- 8:04lie. Spiders are arachnids, not insects.
- 8:08And there's a difference. People also
- 8:10believe that daddy longlegs are the most
- 8:13venomous spiders. Well, that's a lie.
- 8:16First, they are not spiders. They are
- 8:18closer to scorpions than spiders. And
- 8:21the second, they don't have venom gland.
- 8:24But if you think this guy is daddy long
- 8:26legs, then yeah, this is a spider, but
- 8:29its venom is harmless to humans. There
- 8:31are a lot of lies floating around us and
- 8:34you shouldn't trust everything you hear.
- 8:36But what you can really trust is, as
- 8:38always, I love you guys.
