  1. 0:00the Joe Rogan experience how you doing
  2. 0:03man you're all healed up the bruising
  3. 0:06and swelling has gone down as you can
  4. 0:08see but the more serious injury was to
  5. 0:10the brain you have a serious injury to
  6. 0:12your brain yeah
  7. 0:13brain hemorrhage what happened from what
  8. 0:15the mob beating so if I'm getting hit in
  9. 0:18the head you got a brain hemorrhage
  10. 0:20multiple times regions yes they were
  11. 0:23bashing me on the back of my head and to
  12. 0:26my eyes but so how do you know you had
  13. 0:29brain hemorrhaging and how are you able
  14. 0:31to just walk around well I was taken to
  15. 0:33I started losing my balance after the
  16. 0:36beating mm-hmm there was no police made
  17. 0:39it to the courthouse sat down on the
  18. 0:41ground ambulance was called I had to
  19. 0:44walk back to the ambulance because the
  20. 0:46streets were walked back to the police
  21. 0:48precinct in the direction of the mob the
  22. 0:50medics that were associated with the
  23. 0:52Portland Police let me know that they
  24. 0:54thought I needed to walk in that
  25. 0:55direction it was quite shocking because
  26. 0:57it was I just been a victim of the small
  27. 1:00beating and then now they telling me to
  28. 1:02walk back in their action of the Sunter
  29. 1:05precinct where the beating had happened
  30. 1:07did they not know that you had been
  31. 1:08beaten up well it's let's let's set this
  32. 1:11up for people who are new to this and
  33. 1:13don't understand what happened I've been
  34. 1:16aware of you because of you had written
  35. 1:19for Colette right and you had become one
  36. 1:24of these for whatever reason
  37. 1:26controversial online journalists and you
  38. 1:30covered aunt Eva quite a bit and you
  39. 1:32covered a lot of the radical left you
  40. 1:35were in Portland and what was the exact
  41. 1:40rally that was going on what was it
  42. 1:43called
  43. 1:43did it have a name it was something like
  44. 1:47protect Portland so it was organized by
  45. 1:50row city on tufa and its allies and by
  46. 1:54its allies I mean I'm referring to the
  47. 1:56local chapter of the Democratic
  48. 1:58Socialist America came out to support
  49. 2:00them in numbers and what are they
  50. 2:02protecting Portland from they allege
  51. 2:05fascist fascists but just in general I
  52. 2:09mean is there like a particular thing
  53. 2:11they're worried about there were two
  54. 2:13right-wing events happening that day
  55. 2:15that they were countered demonstrating
  56. 2:18against there was a on one part one part
  57. 2:21of downtown the proud boys were holding
  58. 2:23a flag waving event that was completely
  59. 2:27peaceful there was no actually flag
  60. 2:29waving American flag waving correct okay
  61. 2:31a lot of Portland has found that
  62. 2:34provocative and a manifestation of
  63. 2:37fascistic violence and in another part
  64. 2:40of downtown there was a men's rights
  65. 2:42activist who was holding a rally it was
  66. 2:48titled for victims of domestic terrorism
  67. 2:50it was an anti anti feh event hey so a
  68. 2:56men's rights activist yes that was doing
  69. 3:00an anti-fascist or anti anti feh Christ
  70. 3:04well what boy seems like a whole lot of
  71. 3:08do about nothing flag waving and anti
  72. 3:11ante foe okay yes can I set the context
  73. 3:14for please for the city of Portland it's
  74. 3:16a mess you have listeners and viewers
  75. 3:18all over the world so Portland Oregon is
  76. 3:21a extremely progressive city in the
  77. 3:24Pacific Northwest of the US and I call
  78. 3:28it a political monoculture because
  79. 3:30really it's not just you're more likely
  80. 3:35to find socialists open socialist there
  81. 3:38than you would find like a regular
  82. 3:40Republican or conservative and within
  83. 3:43the sort of echo chamber of just leftist
  84. 3:46politics there's it's become also a
  85. 3:49hotbed for far-left militancy so Rose
  86. 3:53City antifa is you could call it like
  87. 3:55the local chapter movement of anti feds
  88. 3:58one of the oldest in the country it's
  89. 4:00very large important and they hold what
  90. 4:05you could call protest but they're there
  91. 4:07their protests are always devolve into
  92. 4:08riots where they essentially take over
  93. 4:11parts of downtown and attack people
  94. 4:14attack their ideological opponents and
  95. 4:16do it frequently with impunity I mean I
  96. 4:19wasn't only one attack that day there
  97. 4:21were two other people who were bashed on
  98. 4:23the head very in
  99. 4:25and have very severe lacerations to the
  100. 4:26face on head you may recall the footage
  101. 4:29from October of last year
  102. 4:31when there was elderly driver who was
  103. 4:33attacked on the streets yeah they were
  104. 4:36directing traffic exactly in and somehow
  105. 4:39or another the mayor thought it was a
  106. 4:40good idea to let this take place is that
  107. 4:42the case and they told the police to
  108. 4:43stand down is that true
  109. 4:45so I mean the next part of this journey
  110. 4:50for me will be the legal aspect of it
  111. 4:53and it seems like something stinks in
  112. 4:55Portland the issue is really not with
  113. 4:58the rank-and-file officers they're
  114. 5:00following orders to not intervene so I I
  115. 5:03have been assaulted and criminally
  116. 5:07harassed early before the mob beating
  117. 5:09people throwing milkshakes at my face
  118. 5:11and head within eyesight of police who
  119. 5:14were watching in downtown and both of
  120. 5:17these were reported in the dancer that I
  121. 5:19heard that day as I've heard many times
  122. 5:21before when I've been assaulted by an
  123. 5:22tyfa is that we will not question
  124. 5:25approach or detain the suspect because
  125. 5:29this couldn't Slyke the crowd okay so
  126. 5:31this is why this has exacerbate or this
  127. 5:34is why this has become such a big deal
  128. 5:36in Portland because of this attitude
  129. 5:37because Portland seems to be the hotbed
  130. 5:40right now for this kind of stuff is that
  131. 5:42is that fair to say I think it is so is
  132. 5:45this the mayor I mean who is who's the
  133. 5:48one who's giving the orders to the
  134. 5:50police to tell them to allow this stuff
  135. 5:52to take place well I'm crowdfunding for
  136. 5:56the legal phone right now and we are
  137. 6:00willing we are going to hold accountable
  138. 6:02whoever is responsible for dereliction
  139. 6:05of duty where the evidence leads us so
  140. 6:08Portland has a odd governance system in
  141. 6:12that the mayor who is up for reelection
  142. 6:14by the way is also the police
  143. 6:18commissioner so oh wow yeah how does
  144. 6:23that work it is an old system that it
  145. 6:26inherited and it just and never changed
  146. 6:28from the Wild West like that sounds
  147. 6:30ridiculous yeah it is ridiculous you can
  148. 6:32see all the political conflicts and in
  149. 6:36conflicts of interest that that would
  150. 6:38arise right
  151. 6:38yeah yeah shitload how did you get
  152. 6:42involved in this like what why first of
  153. 6:44all why would they ingry you I I work as
  154. 6:49a journalist I'll name like places that
  155. 6:51I've been published before I write and I
  156. 6:53do video and I do podcasts so my written
  157. 6:55work has been published in The Wall
  158. 6:57Street Journal the National Review
  159. 6:58Spectator New York Post I'm also on the
  160. 7:01editorial team of Colette magazine and
  161. 7:05one of my beats amongst Averell is about
  162. 7:08far-left militancy particularly in
  163. 7:10Portland and to me what I was noticing
  164. 7:13was that the national and local media
  165. 7:16coverage had a particular blind spot
  166. 7:19when it came to their coverage on an
  167. 7:22tyfa there was all this sensitivity to
  168. 7:26the : unquote far-right and white
  169. 7:29nationalism or white identity extremism
  170. 7:33but they could not or would not
  171. 7:36recognize the militancy that was on the
  172. 7:39left in Portland seemed to be one of the
  173. 7:41places for Ground Zero particularly
  174. 7:43after 2016 we had very violent rioting
  175. 7:48in downtown the a segment of the
  176. 7:51population could not accept the election
  177. 7:53results in November and so they did a
  178. 7:56million dollars in damage setting fires
  179. 7:59and destroying properties and businesses
  180. 8:02and at that time I was a graduate
  181. 8:04student working at the Student Paper and
  182. 8:06I destroyed on that and I came out to
  183. 8:10witness in it it you know this was a
  184. 8:12major American city but it felt like I
  185. 8:16was in Afghanistan or Iraq just with all
  186. 8:19these fires and explosions and people
  187. 8:21running around with bats while massed up
  188. 8:23and that was first time I really became
  189. 8:24familiar with anti-fun I took an
  190. 8:26interest in it and I saw over and over
  191. 8:29look the media coverage was basically
  192. 8:31really sort of whitewashing then kind of
  193. 8:35like referring to them as anti-fascist
  194. 8:38giving them that propaganda victory and
  195. 8:42anti-fascism movement the Masters of
  196. 8:45doublespeak and disinformation so it
  197. 8:48starts with the name anti father is
  198. 8:50short for anti
  199. 8:52but I never refer to them as that
  200. 8:54because that's seeding the ground - to
  201. 8:59them they when they say that they are
  202. 9:03defending a community self-defense it
  203. 9:06actually is referring to meat
  204. 9:08premeditated violence in offensive
  205. 9:10violence so I started going to covering
  206. 9:15this more and more you know after I left
  207. 9:17the student paper I started writing for
  208. 9:20some national international publications
  209. 9:23and the internationally there was a you
  210. 9:28know set of readers who interested in
  211. 9:29what the hell is going on in Portland
  212. 9:32why are there these continued scenes of
  213. 9:34street brawls and anarchy over and over
  214. 9:36what are the variables that are causing
  215. 9:39this and I thought that I could try to
  216. 9:43shine a light on it and by doing so an
  217. 9:46tyfa became enraged with my work and
  218. 9:51particularly things they hated me since
  219. 9:53last year but they started really
  220. 9:56escalating on on the 1st of May May Day
  221. 10:02so this year was when I was physically
  222. 10:07assaulted by them for the first time
  223. 10:09they were very upset that I wrote a
  224. 10:13story from the New York Post where there
  225. 10:16was a series of and this is one of the
  226. 10:18other beats that I work on his hate
  227. 10:21crime hoaxes and Portland earlier this
  228. 10:24year I had this huge panic over serious
  229. 10:28allegations of LGBT people claiming that
  230. 10:32they were marauding right-wing gangs
  231. 10:33driving around trying to kill people
  232. 10:36with bats with hammers trying to kidnap
  233. 10:39them and these were all rumors that were
  234. 10:42reported on social media caused a huge
  235. 10:44frenzy even the mayor had to come out
  236. 10:47and you know issue statement about how
  237. 10:50he was concerned there was an emergency
  238. 10:51Town Hall with the the local queer
  239. 10:55center and so I started looking into all
  240. 10:58these allegations there was 15 of them
  241. 11:00and I found that of the 15 only one was
  242. 11:04reported to police and what was your
  243. 11:05reported to police and documented in the
  244. 11:08report was entirely different from the
  245. 11:10GoFundMe we're over ten thousand dollars
  246. 11:12was raised for this trans activist she
  247. 11:15had alleged that one night walking home
  248. 11:18transphobic people had beat her with the
  249. 11:20bat and knocked her unconscious police
  250. 11:23report said that she was extremely
  251. 11:25intoxicated and likely fell and there
  252. 11:27was no evidence that anybody had
  253. 11:29assaulted her so when I the story came
  254. 11:32out because IMT file was really anti fun
  255. 11:35the Democratic Socialist America in
  256. 11:37Portland were really involved in
  257. 11:38peddling this hate crime fear in
  258. 11:40Portland and I just kind of you know
  259. 11:44threw water on this was panic that they
  260. 11:47have been flaming and so on the first of
  261. 11:52May there was a write that I was
  262. 11:55covering in one of the mast I don't see
  263. 11:57Fela people went up and sprayed me with
  264. 12:00I think it was bear mace some type of
  265. 12:01chemical that blinds you and burns you
  266. 12:04yeah I saw the video yeah so there was
  267. 12:08no police that that was there that I
  268. 12:10mean that anti fire that was publicly
  269. 12:13advertised on Facebook and all that so
  270. 12:15over and over like antifa is very
  271. 12:17transparent about their calls for people
  272. 12:20to come to the stuff in to engage in
  273. 12:22this physical confrontation that they
  274. 12:24call self-defense and the police either
  275. 12:27stay away or on purpose or are told to
  276. 12:31stay away so it's very confusing because
  277. 12:35when you watch the videos there's
  278. 12:36amazing people there amazing people who
  279. 12:38disagree with them like they're yelling
  280. 12:40at each other and then someone will come
  281. 12:41along and mace people and for the police
  282. 12:44to not step in and do something it's I
  283. 12:47don't I don't think there's another city
  284. 12:49in the country that would allow
  285. 12:51something like that it just doesn't it
  286. 12:52doesn't seem like it makes any sense at
  287. 12:54all because you're you're not talking
  288. 12:55about people that are being physically
  289. 12:56attacked and that are macing someone to
  290. 12:58protect themselves or even a threat of
  291. 13:00being physically attacked they're just
  292. 13:02disagreeing with each other and yelling
  293. 13:04at each other and then someone will come
  294. 13:05along and start macing people and I've
  295. 13:08seen it many times and I think there's
  296. 13:10also a real problem with people wearing
  297. 13:12masks
  298. 13:13you know what whether there are ideology
  299. 13:15makes sense or not when you put people
  300. 13:17in masks
  301. 13:18and then you have a bunch of people
  302. 13:19yelling and escalating and then there's
  303. 13:20teams there's team antiva versus team
  304. 13:23you know anybody opposing them they feel
  305. 13:26is a white supremacist or a Nazi and
  306. 13:30this is just how they've chosen to frame
  307. 13:32it to dehumanize people and then you see
  308. 13:34them attack people I'm sure you're aware
  309. 13:35of the girl who got maced in the face
  310. 13:37because she had a hat on that said make
  311. 13:38Bitcoin great again but it was the same
  312. 13:41color hat as the make America great
  313. 13:43again hat and she got maced in the face
  314. 13:44and she got hit with something too right
  315. 13:46didn't she get hit in the face with
  316. 13:48something anyway this kind of [ __ ] is
  317. 13:51really weird it's really weird and
  318. 13:54disturbing to see these young people
  319. 13:56with these ideal idealistic versions of
  320. 13:58what they're doing I think a lot of the
  321. 14:00people that are involved in that really
  322. 14:01think they are fighting fascism they
  323. 14:04really do they really think that Donald
  324. 14:05Trump and the proud boys and white
  325. 14:07supremacists from Charlottesville
  326. 14:09carrying tiki torches that these people
  327. 14:11represent something horrible that's
  328. 14:13sweeping across the country and the
  329. 14:15young people today need to stand up and
  330. 14:18fight against this and they're putting
  331. 14:19on masks and they're carrying backpacks
  332. 14:20and whacking people in the head with
  333. 14:22crowbars is really [ __ ] weird to see
  334. 14:25and it's really weird that the city of
  335. 14:28Portland or all cities in fact haven't
  336. 14:31made some sort of a law where you can't
  337. 14:33walk around in public with a [ __ ]
  338. 14:35mask on because that is one of the
  339. 14:37things that helps these people it's the
  340. 14:39same thing that you see on social media
  341. 14:41when people are anonymous and they say
  342. 14:43the most horrible hateful [ __ ] they're
  343. 14:45saying that because they're not in front
  344. 14:46of you you can't recognize them they
  345. 14:48don't have to take responsibility for
  346. 14:49what they're saying this is a lot of the
  347. 14:52same characteristics that a person has
  348. 14:54when they're wearing a costume you're
  349. 14:56dressed in all black with gloves on and
  350. 14:58a face mask and you're hitting people
  351. 14:59with a bike lock like what what is that
  352. 15:01about
  353. 15:02well what that's about is you're getting
  354. 15:04away with being anonymous and you're
  355. 15:06getting support from all these other
  356. 15:07people around you there's this mob
  357. 15:09mentality that takes place it's well
  358. 15:11documented with humans where when you
  359. 15:14get a group of people together and
  360. 15:15there's another group and it's like it's
  361. 15:17a tribal warfare type situation and
  362. 15:19that's what you're seeing within teeth
  363. 15:21and the fact that the Portland Police
  364. 15:23have I don't know what's going on with
  365. 15:25them whether they've been told to not
  366. 15:27handle that but the fact they haven't
  367. 15:28done anything to mitigate this is
  368. 15:30[ __ ] it's it's embarrassing
  369. 15:32it's it's a shame it's it's terrible it
  370. 15:35really is it's a it's a travesty you
  371. 15:38asked about the mayor earlier and and if
  372. 15:41he issued any stand-down orders there's
  373. 15:43a statement that was put out after I was
  374. 15:46attacked by the paddle turner who's the
  375. 15:48president of the police union and he
  376. 15:49said very clearly he called from the
  377. 15:51mayor to remove the handcuffs handcuffs
  378. 15:54of law enforcement so they can enforce
  379. 15:56the law and he accuses the mayor of
  380. 15:59politicizing the police department is
  381. 16:02this mayor popular no he's not he's
  382. 16:06hated well by moderates because of the
  383. 16:11things that he allows to up in the city
  384. 16:12but the Father hate him as well they
