1. 0:00I came to the police station in 2003
2. 0:03until the officers I was innocent
3. 0:06they didn't believe me
4. 0:10I came to the Crown Court in Manchester
5. 0:12in 2004. until the jury I was innocent
6. 0:16they didn't believe me
7. 0:19I came to this appeal court in 2006 and
8. 0:23told him I was innocent
9. 0:25they didn't believe me
10. 0:28I applied to the criminal cases review
11. 0:30Commission
12. 0:32which is supposed to investigate
13. 0:34miscarriages of Justice
14. 0:36and tell them I was innocent
15. 0:39they didn't investigate
16. 0:41and they didn't believe me
17. 0:43not not once but twice
18. 0:50today we told this court I was innocent
19. 0:52and finally they listened
20. 0:56when a jury finds you guilty when you
21. 0:58are innocent
22. 1:00reality does not change
23. 1:03you know you did not commit to the crime
24. 1:07but all the people around you start
25. 1:09living in a false fantasy universe
26. 1:12and treat you as if you are guilty
27. 1:15on the 2nd of August 2003 I was
28. 1:18kidnapped
29. 1:19by the state
30. 1:22it has taken nearly 20 years to persuade
31. 1:24my kidnappers to let me go
32. 1:27since my release I have had the
33. 1:29privilege of being introduced to an
34. 1:30American woman
35. 1:33called Jennifer Thompson
36. 1:35a rape Survivor
37. 1:37who was caught up in a wrongful
38. 1:39conviction
39. 1:40and she has helped me at least begin
40. 1:43to try and understand what you went
41. 1:46through that night and what it has been
42. 1:48like for you since
43. 1:52I am so sorry that you were attacked and
44. 1:54brutalized that night by that man
45. 1:57I am not the person who attacked you
46. 2:00but what happened to me is not your
47. 2:02fault
48. 2:04I'm so sorry if my fight for the truth
49. 2:07as I knew it to be has caused you extra
50. 2:09trauma
51. 2:12I am so sorry that the system has let
52. 2:14you down
53. 2:17it lets us both down
54. 2:20there are no winners in a wrongful
55. 2:21conviction case with the exception of
56. 2:23the real perpetrator
57. 2:27everyone gets failed from the original
58. 2:29victim to the wrongfully convicted
59. 2:31person
60. 2:33I sincerely hope that you are receiving
61. 2:34the support
62. 2:36you need on the apology from the police
63. 2:38that you deserve
