  1. 0:00In 2023, I made this trans voice
  2. 0:02tutorial which fundamentally changed my
  3. 0:04life forever. However, I was kind of
  4. 0:06inexperienced when I made that video.
  5. 0:08But thanks to that video, I've had the
  6. 0:09blessed opportunity to work with all
  7. 0:11sorts of trans students and learn more
  8. 0:13about trans voice. So, I wanted to redo
  9. 0:16the first video that started it all. So,
  10. 0:18I hope you join me and let's learn about
  11. 0:20what a larynx actually is. Let's do it.
  12. 0:23Are you tired of transvoice tutorials
  13. 0:25that require either a linguistics degree
  14. 0:27or a sound engineering degree to even
  15. 0:29understand it? Do you want a trans voice
  16. 0:31tutorial that can be comprehended by
  17. 0:33literal 5-year-olds? Here it is. Change
  18. 0:36the voice from this to this. How to
  19. 0:39transvoice part one. Again, the larynx.
  20. 0:42Let's do this. Okay, let's make this
  21. 0:44concise and simple. Let's dive right in.
  22. 0:48The larynx is a super important muscle
  23. 0:50in the human body and runs up the
  24. 0:52throat. It's sometimes called the vocal
  25. 0:54tract. Outside of a transvoice context,
  26. 0:57it's used to protect your body when
  27. 0:58swallowing foods and liquids. This
  28. 1:00muscle is connected to the little ball
  29. 1:02that pokes outside the throat. The ball
  30. 1:05isn't the larynx, but if the larynx
  31. 1:07moves, the ball moves. They're
  32. 1:09connected. Keep this in mind throughout
  33. 1:11the lesson. We will cover a technique
  34. 1:13that will help us use this muscle to
  35. 1:15move it in such a way that we will
  36. 1:17achieve a more feminine sound. So how is
  37. 1:20this muscle going to help us anyway? To
  38. 1:22explain that, I got to explain
  39. 1:24testosterone based puberty. If you don't
  40. 1:27experience a testosterone based puberty,
  41. 1:30this technique will likely not do much
  42. 1:32for you. Sis girls wanting to sound more
  43. 1:34feminine, for example, may have more
  44. 1:36luck with different techniques such as
  45. 1:38resin and soft palette and stuff. But
  46. 1:40for trans girls or fem boys or
  47. 1:42crossdressers or sis men that have
  48. 1:43experienced a testosterone base puing
  49. 1:46this technique is going to undo a lot of
  50. 1:48what puberty did to our voice. Basically
  51. 1:52testosterone
  52. 1:55base. However, remember that the
  53. 1:57technique I'm going to teach you today
  54. 1:59raising the larynx is different from
  55. 2:01raising your pitch. They're separate
  56. 2:03things that when puberty occurs, you
  57. 2:06might notice the voice becoming more
  58. 2:07crackled, becoming deeper, more
  59. 2:09gravel-like. This is because of the
  60. 2:12lower vocal folds. They get thicker
  61. 2:15through testosterone. So, as sound
  62. 2:17travels through them, it gets a bit more
  63. 2:19gravel-like, a bit thicker. If we raise
  64. 2:22the larynx, we're able to avoid these
  65. 2:25thickened vocal folds and not be
  66. 2:26affected by them. Simply put, if we can
  67. 2:28make the little bowl in our throat go
  68. 2:30up, then the larynx will go up with it.
  69. 2:32They're like friends. They stay
  70. 2:33together. But if the larynx can be
  71. 2:36comfortably raised, then our voice
  72. 2:38becomes more bright and feminine cuz
  73. 2:40we're avoiding the little grally vocal
  74. 2:42folds underneath. So essentially, this
  75. 2:44helps us avoid and circumvent the
  76. 2:46thicken vocal folds. So we can just go
  77. 2:48around it, jump over the fence, BLG,
  78. 2:49jump up the stairs, so to speak. We're
  79. 2:51going to make whisper sounds. So this
  80. 2:53exercise is closet friendly. If you've
  81. 2:56seen tutorials with the small dog, big
  82. 2:58dog thing, just know that this technique
  83. 3:00does the same thing, except I don't have
  84. 3:02to convince you to make dog sounds. So,
  85. 3:04it's a bit of an easier icebreaker.
  86. 3:06We're going to be whispering two
  87. 3:09sounds. And we're going to use these two
  88. 3:12sounds to compare our larynx's position
  89. 3:15so that we can get a feel for what it
  90. 3:16feels like to raise a larynx. So then
  91. 3:19after this video, you can just raise it
  92. 3:20on its own. Basically, when we make the
  93. 3:22breffy sound, it should be really
  94. 3:24breathy, like you're unfoging a car
  95. 3:26window on a super cold day. And the
  96. 3:29breffy sounds like when you are a
  97. 3:3110-year-old screaming quietly so your
  98. 3:33parents don't wake up when you're about
  99. 3:34to clutch an epic victory royale in Sky
  100. 3:36Block Survival. Wait,
  101. 3:39what? I really can't hear you. Should I
  102. 3:42like come over there? Or As you can see,
  103. 3:44we're not making that loud of a sound.
  104. 3:45It's more of a whisper if anything. So,
  105. 3:48how far are these drops anyway? Enough
  106. 3:50time for us to practice this technique.
  107. 3:52How convenient. So, let's make a hot
  108. 3:56sound. Now you
  109. 3:58try. Yeah. Okay. So, gently with the
  110. 4:01side of your finger, feel the little
  111. 4:03ball. It'll either stay the same or go
  112. 4:05down. Okay. Now, let's see what happens
  113. 4:09when we do a H
  114. 4:10sound like that. Try
  115. 4:13it. If all went to plan, you should feel
  116. 4:16the ball move this much.
  117. 4:18Wait, what happens if it goes
  118. 4:24higher? Oh, well, if we do that, we
  119. 4:27can't breathe
  120. 4:28properly. The larynx shouldn't be forced
  121. 4:30too high up. The larynx is used when we
  122. 4:33swallow food, after all, and our throats
  123. 4:36are protecting the body from
  124. 4:38choking. But as a result, the body can't
  125. 4:42properly breathe at that kind of height
  126. 4:44when speaking.
  127. 4:47All right, let's do the next step, shall
  128. 4:49we? In the same breath where we make
  129. 4:53a sound, we're going to go from a
  130. 4:56whisper to a regular voice. Okay? So,
  131. 5:00what this will sound like is
  132. 5:06this, like that. Ideally, you'll have a
  133. 5:09sound that's a bit brighter than your
  134. 5:11usual voice. Here's some examples of
  135. 5:13some students I've had in the past do
  136. 5:15this technique, so you know what people
  137. 5:17sound like when they're first learning
  138. 5:19this as opposed to
  139. 5:27me. It won't sound crazy different like
  140. 5:30I mentioned, but it'll sound a bit more
  141. 5:32clear and lacking that grally effect
  142. 5:35essentially. but random voice coach on
  143. 5:37the internet with a Patreon linked in
  144. 5:39the description. How do I turn this into
  145. 5:41a real person voice? I'm glad you asked
  146. 5:44random VR model that looks suspiciously
  147. 5:46like mine. What we're going to do is
  148. 5:48we're going to attach this H sound to
  149. 5:51sentences. Let's look at the phrase
  150. 5:54happy birthday. If it is your birthday,
  151. 5:56let me know. But anyway, we're going to
  152. 5:58do a long h sound like we just did, but
  153. 6:01slap it into a sentence. This is how
  154. 6:03like most trans voice techniques kind of
  155. 6:05work. The idea is once we get used to
  156. 6:08doing this, you'll be able to use your
  157. 6:09larynx with voice without this
  158. 6:12technique. You'll just be able to speak,
  159. 6:15right? Happy birthday. Like that. All
  160. 6:18right. Now you
  161. 6:23try. Epic. If the sentence sounds
  162. 6:26comparatively more clear than before.
  163. 6:28So, as opposed to like it sounding a bit
  164. 6:30more grally like this and like making it
  165. 6:32clearer, that's good. Basically, avoid
  166. 6:35the grally
  167. 6:38sound. If you want to check if there is
  168. 6:40even a difference being made, try saying
  169. 6:43happy birthday normally as you would
  170. 6:44with your standard speaking voice. Then
  171. 6:46try the technique again and see if it
  172. 6:48sounds different. I recommend using
  173. 6:50recording stuff to track your progress.
  174. 6:52The reason we draw it out so much is
  175. 6:55just to get a feel and exaggerate the
  176. 6:57sound so we know what we're looking for.
  177. 6:59Then once we're in position, we're going
  178. 7:01to say it again, but with a regular
  179. 7:03speaking rhythm. This will sound like
  180. 7:07this. Happy birthday. Happy birthday.
  181. 7:11Important note, when you're not
  182. 7:13speaking, the ball will naturally go
  183. 7:15back down. This is normal. I repeat,
  184. 7:18this is normal. Leaving your larynx up
  185. 7:21when you aren't speaking is not safe. I
  186. 7:24repeat, certified not
  187. 7:27safe once you spend time practicing. If
  188. 7:30you want more methods to practice, I
  189. 7:32recommend trying to read passages with
  190. 7:34the larynx raised or even playing spot
  191. 7:37the difference out loud with your larynx
  192. 7:39raised or even try chatting to a friend
  193. 7:41with your larynx raised. Doing so will
  194. 7:44build up a muscle memory so that you
  195. 7:46know what it feels like when you're in
  196. 7:47the right position. If you want extra
  197. 7:50help with your trans voice journey, feel
  198. 7:51free to check out the private lessons
  199. 7:53here and the group lessons linked in the
  200. 7:56description. These lessons help me help
  201. 7:58you directly, gives me more teaching
  202. 8:01experience, and allows this channel to
  203. 8:02make videos about too much fear of the
  204. 8:04algorithm. If you want to see more trans
  205. 8:06content from both the VR me and the IRL
  206. 8:09me, feel free to hit the funny subscribe
  207. 8:11button and let me know what you think in
  208. 8:12the comments. It helps the channel a lot
  209. 8:14to remain as authentic to itself as it
  210. 8:17is. It was really nerve-wracking for me
  211. 8:19to make this video cuz my previous
  212. 8:21larynx tutorial is my biggest video.
  213. 8:23Okay, it blasted into a a height that I
  214. 8:26could never anticipate. It's the main
  215. 8:28video people find me through, right? So,
  216. 8:30it's very nervous trying to follow it
  217. 8:32up, but I did my best. I hope I did it
  218. 8:34justice. Well, that's all from me. I
  219. 8:38need to get out of VR cuz it's 30° and
  220. 8:40I'm kind of dying. All right, stay
  221. 8:42hydrated and know that you are valid.
