- 0:02we're winding our way through north carolina home of the charlotte motor speedway and the
- 0:06nascar hall of fame all right it's coming up where better to find a hot rod builder
- 0:11and a nascar flagman than here we got a bit ah look at that car i see that the heck is that
- 0:19danielle wasn't kidding man he was making his own cars
- 0:27hello hey you brent yes sir how you doing doing well i'm mike talked danny on the phone
- 0:34sir good to see you thank you nice to meet you man pleasure what the heck is that thing over there
- 0:41that is a heinz that's cool it looks like it's coming and going exactly your dad built that
- 0:47yeah he's an engineer of some sort yeah my dad was very eccentric he just had these visions of
- 0:53stuff he mean he would sit around and draw stuff all the time you know an artist just
- 0:57sees something and it doesn't and that's what he did does it run no no it's a project it's
- 1:03still going it's interesting in it no sir right now it's a flintstone so you're walking around
- 1:08you're like look at the front end of that thing wow that's cool look at the back end that's wild
- 1:12and then you look inside there's nothing in it what frame is it sitting on it's some british
- 1:16right-hand drive it's very reminiscent of the old concept cars back in the 30s 40s and 50s
- 1:25this is concept art come to life he always won an auburn boat tail okay roger rabbit yeah yeah
- 1:35and he couldn't afford one so he's like oh good one all of his talents was self-taught he grew up
- 1:40poor didn't have much money if he wanted something he had to make it he built his own toys and so he
- 1:46learned to fabricate it at a young age it's a ford spitfire chevy it's got the ford edge windshield
- 1:54yeah what's this convertible it's pieces of uh spitfire body ford truck hood chevy fender
- 2:02the rear end is the front end of another car it's just a hodgepodge of different things
- 2:07one of his visions you know what this would be great for what's that like a like a promotional
- 2:13piece through that you know what i mean like you could paint a business on the side like we have a
- 2:17nash in the front of our building that just says antique archaeology on it you know this car is in
- 2:23its first phase he didn't get a chance to finish it so there's a lot of rough edges but at 20 feet
- 2:30away it grabs a hold of you this is a curb grabber people got to come by here all the time asking
- 2:35what the heck this is all the time all the time yeah they stopped by and asked about everything
- 2:39here and my mom's tired of having to deal with them my mom and dad were really close she had a
- 2:46hard time and it reminds her a lot of him there's so much of it we need to move some of you know
- 2:51it's time to move on let some other people enjoy it well what do you want for something like this
- 2:58i mean it's like no idea i don't even know it's a wonder how you'd put a number on it exactly
- 3:02i could put a price on a 65 corvette i can look up prices on what lincoln's
- 3:07go for but custom cars like this how do you put a price on a one of a kind
- 3:13what would you feel comfortable at three thousand yes sir
- 3:25um how much you think we can get that ship for
- 3:28frankie that's gonna be at least eight hundred dollars
- 3:34where are you going to find another one you know that's one that's a fact so it's like a big toy
- 3:40you know i've never bought anything like this it's a one of a kind it doesn't matter why you
- 3:45connect with something what matters is that you do connect with it all right that's what's the beauty
- 3:52of collecting let's see what it looks like with the top off grab that side of the top frankie
- 3:56it's talking to me it's making me smile and i just can't stop looking at the thing
- 4:03like i got i got to do this i got to do this i'd be honored own it
- 4:07it's got it's got to go somewhere it's got something's going to happen with this thing
- 4:11i mean anything that makes you smile this much you know and maybe that was what he was going
- 4:17for making people laugh and smile and have fun this is going to be cool to push this
- 4:21story forward so people can see what wayno was capable of even though we didn't finish the car
- 4:27it still has a very dramatic look to it you could easily shoot a color on it
- 4:32yeah you could put their old shots you throw in uh 14 cans of 14 cans of that green
- 4:42it's like a day-to-day treasure hunt i'm out there looking for rusty gold i'm looking for the unusual
- 4:48and impossible it's back roads it's dumpster diving it's flea markets it's people's homes
