- 0:00I'd say one of the strongest mental
- 0:01frames that has gotten me through my
- 0:03hardest times is thinking this will be
- 0:06the story that I will one day tell.
- 0:09And that means the harder it is, the
- 0:11bigger the dragon, the more epic the
- 0:13story, and by consequence, the more epic
- 0:16the hero.
- 0:18And if you think about the difference
- 0:20between winners and losers,
- 0:23winners define themselves by what they
- 0:25made happen.
- 0:27And losers define themselves by what
- 0:29happened to them.
- 0:31And the difficult part of the lonely
- 0:34chapter is
- 0:37that the Rocky cutscene lasts 90 seconds
- 0:39in the movie and lasts 5 years in
- 0:41reality with no promise of it ever
- 0:44ending.
- 0:45No guarantee of glory.
- 0:48What's interesting about and I don't
- 0:50again, I don't like using the word
- 0:51psychology, but I'll say it. What's
- 0:52interesting about humans is that our
- 0:54ability to endure is very robust if we
- 0:59know that we'll make it out. And so
- 1:02they've done my studies where they drop
- 1:04the mouse in and then they let it drown
- 1:06and it drowns really fast. And then they
- 1:09drop a a mouse in and then before it
- 1:11gets to the point where it drowns, they
- 1:12pick it up.
- 1:13And then they put it back in. And the
- 1:15second time they put it in, it can last
- 1:17like 20 times longer.
- 1:19>> the the stats is something around will
- 1:21drown in less than an hour. If it's
- 1:23taken out, dried off, and allowed to
- 1:24relax, it'll swim for a day.
- 1:27>> An absurd amount different. And so if I
- 1:30were to say, "Hey,
- 1:31I need you to hold your breath,
- 1:34but I don't tell you how long."
- 1:3620 seconds in, you might be thinking
- 1:39this is stupid. When is he going to
- 1:40stop? Is he going to wait for me to pass
- 1:41out? And all these stupid thoughts go
- 1:43into your mind. But if I say, "I need
- 1:45you to hold your breath for 3 minutes."
- 1:50Your lungs might burn, but you can see
- 1:52that there's this end that's coming.
- 1:54The difficulty with personal development
- 1:56and entrepreneurship is that you don't
- 1:58know when the end is coming, but you
- 2:00still need to fight like the second
- 2:01mouse who gets out, gets right off, and
- 2:04gets put back in.
- 2:05And the only certainty that I can give
- 2:07you is that it's the same thing that
- 2:09every other mouse, every other person
- 2:11who got through that period went
- 2:12through. And you won't die. And if you
- 2:15do die, you won't care.
- 2:17Because you'll be dead.
- 2:20And so
- 2:22best case, you win. Worst case, it won't
- 2:24matter.
- 2:25You know, a fun frame with that is when
- 2:27someone says, "Must be nice."
- 2:31You can just say, "Yeah, it is."
- 2:34Or someone says, "Man, you must have
- 2:37exceptional genetics to have the body
- 2:39you have, and it just happened so easily
- 2:40for you." And you're like, "Yeah.
- 2:43It's sweet."
- 2:45And the thing is is that if we think if
- 2:47we were to just say like if we lean into
- 2:48it, right?
- 2:50To some degree
- 2:51by leaning into it, you also eliminate a
- 2:53competitor, if you want to hear my my
- 2:54ugly side. Because if I just affirm the
- 2:57fact that they think it happened
- 2:58overnight or that it was genetic or
- 3:00whatever, makes it more out of reach.
- 3:02>> Right.
