  1. 0:00hey people welcome to the Run testers
  2. 0:01and our review of the Altra via Olympus
  3. 0:032 now according to ultra this Max
  4. 0:06stacked zero drop running shoe shoots
  5. 0:07for plush cushioning and exceptional
  6. 0:09performance in an easy Road running
  7. 0:11experience changes from the past gen
  8. 0:13include a few tweaks to improve the fit
  9. 0:15but the headline here is a new midsole
  10. 0:17foam that's now with ego max ultra's top
  11. 0:19end midsole foam of which alra says we
  12. 0:22went softer so you can go harder but is
  13. 0:24a softer Olympus an improvement well
  14. 0:25watch on to find
  15. 0:28out
  16. 0:31now the stack height stays the same as
  17. 0:33the original VR Olympus with 33 Ms in
  18. 0:35the forer and obviously 33 Ms in the
  19. 0:37heel for alra trademark zero drop when
  20. 0:40it comes to weight the outra vi Olympus
  21. 0:41tips scales at 305 G or 10.75 o in my UK
  22. 0:468 A2 test size price-wise they're also
  23. 0:48staying the same at £45 in the UK or
  24. 0:50$165 in the
  25. 0:56US now let's have a quick look at what's
  26. 0:58new with the shoe then start starting
  27. 1:00with the midsole you've got an updated
  28. 1:01midsole that still uses altra's ego Max
  29. 1:04phone but alra says this version has
  30. 1:05been engineered to deliver a softer
  31. 1:07underfoot feel that cushioning is
  32. 1:09enhanced by a soft cradling ortholite
  33. 1:12x55 footed there's also a rocker to
  34. 1:15encourage propulsion and a more
  35. 1:16efficient toe off and the 4ft platform
  36. 1:19here as you can see is quite wide and
  37. 1:21you get that trademark alra toe box here
  38. 1:24and altra's original foot shaped fit up
  39. 1:27top the uppers are quite dense and mesh
  40. 1:30here there are medium padded heel
  41. 1:31collars and a medium padded tongue
  42. 1:33that's not gusseted the heel security
  43. 1:35has been looked at too with a refined
  44. 1:37molded heel collar here to improve the
  45. 1:39hold flip them over and there's a
  46. 1:41generous covering of out soole Rubber
  47. 1:43and you've got the flex Groove design
  48. 1:45that follows your metat tassels for
  49. 1:46what's supposed to be a more natural
  50. 1:48ride as you kind of land and Tow
  51. 1:54off now when it comes to fit I ran in my
  52. 1:56regular outra running shoe size which is
  53. 1:58uk8 and a half and the fit was B hang on
  54. 2:00true to size for me you've obviously got
  55. 2:01that nice roomy toe box from Altra but
  56. 2:03what I really like is that the whole
  57. 2:05midfoot is really nice and secure and
  58. 2:07the plush colors I think hold the heels
  59. 2:09really well there's plenty of wiggle
  60. 2:11room in the toe box as well across the
  61. 2:12top and towards the end of the shoe so
  62. 2:15for me I would recommend going true to
  63. 2:16sizing
  64. 2:21these so then in testing I've covered
  65. 2:24well north of 50 kmers in the outra v
  66. 2:26Olympus 2 all the usual test conditions
  67. 2:27some long some slow miles mixed in with
  68. 2:30some faster uptempo efforts to test the
  69. 2:31versatility of the shoe most of that has
  70. 2:33been on road some of it was on light
  71. 2:35off-road and overall stepping Comfort is
  72. 2:37good here you got balanced padding with
  73. 2:39a decent roomy fit that help a lot if
  74. 2:42you're coming from big cushion shoes
  75. 2:43from other brands the sensation
  76. 2:44underfoot might initially feel a bit
  77. 2:46stiff and firm but once you get moving I
  78. 2:49think that softens up it's a long way
  79. 2:51off the pillowy kind of um soft rides
  80. 2:54that you might get from some other big
  81. 2:55sort of daily trainers but there's
  82. 2:56enough softness here to take the edge
  83. 2:58off the road and none of the the squid
  84. 3:00that I think can plague some of those
  85. 3:02over cushion daily trainers now the
  86. 3:04rocker in really helps make for a smooth
  87. 3:06natural transition it's also helped by
  88. 3:08that ego Max phone that compresses
  89. 3:10nicely with a timely return this is
  90. 3:12definitely an easy day shoe I think and
  91. 3:14one to reach for when you're targeting a
  92. 3:17consistent slower Pace good for when you
  93. 3:19just want to roll through the miles it's
  94. 3:20not an entirely effortless ride you're
  95. 3:22still having to work here but I
  96. 3:24personally quite like that I want my
  97. 3:25legs to do a bit as well and I did 90
  98. 3:28minutes on feet in the v Olympus 2
  99. 3:29without any trouble at all sort happy
  100. 3:31clip along what's also good here is the
  101. 3:33stability towards the end of that 90
  102. 3:34minutes on pretty tired legs with
  103. 3:36increasingly ragged sloppy lazy form
  104. 3:39yeah you heard right I found these
  105. 3:41helped a lot they're not a stability
  106. 3:43shoe but they are nice and stable you've
  107. 3:45got a nice wide platform to run off into
  108. 3:47the heels and from the forefoot there
  109. 3:49that makes for Reliable Landings overall
  110. 3:51speaking of which I know some might be
  111. 3:53put off by zero drop but I think the
  112. 3:54Rocket Ride almost nullifies that for me
  113. 3:57and I didn't really notice it even
  114. 3:58coming from much higher drop shoes that
  115. 4:01I've been testing prior to these shoes
  116. 4:02or sort of in combination with it now
  117. 4:04when it comes to the grip of that out
  118. 4:06sole I put it through some more testing
  119. 4:07slippy Cobble sections along the river
  120. 4:09temps where I run and I found the
  121. 4:11traction was pretty reliable it did
  122. 4:13quite well on that I also think the
  123. 4:14durability is looking pretty solid here
  124. 4:16there's no worrying signs for me at the
  125. 4:17moment uh worrying signs of tear from
  126. 4:20the miles I've put into them and I think
  127. 4:21the ego Max foam should also retain its
  128. 4:23resilience
  129. 4:28nicely ver then well if the V Olympus
  130. 4:30were too firm this second gen now offers
  131. 4:32a much more cushion dried but one that
  132. 4:34retains a bit of stiffness and firmness
  133. 4:36so if you like that you're going to like
  134. 4:37these what you get here now is a good
  135. 4:40easy long run shoe that's smooth and
  136. 4:42good for the slower end of things
  137. 4:43there's a lot of what I tend to look for
  138. 4:44in an easy mile shoe that includes a
  139. 4:46good roomy toe box with plenty of volume
  140. 4:48up front balanced cushioning that's soft
  141. 4:50but not soggy with a touch of Bounce and
  142. 4:52gives the shoe a lighter feel than their
  143. 4:54weight would suggest you're not getting
  144. 4:56a ride that's as soft as and cushioned
  145. 4:58as the likes of like a nimbus or a new
  146. 5:00balance 1080 those kind of shoes and
  147. 5:01it's maybe not as agile with something
  148. 5:02like the sakon ride 17 or an oncloud
  149. 5:05eclipse but as an easy day option with
  150. 5:07bags of stability and a predective
  151. 5:09rolling ride I would say it sort of
  152. 5:11ticks all of the boxes and there also
  153. 5:12aren't many Max cushioned zero drop
  154. 5:15shoes on the market so if that's what we
  155. 5:17after then this is a very competent
  156. 5:19offering that's going to give you that
  157. 5:20there are definitely more versatile
  158. 5:21shoes out there so if you're after a
  159. 5:23more doit all shoe I'd look at things
  160. 5:25like the ride 17 maybe even the Triumph
  161. 5:2721 from saky as well of the Hoka Bondi
  162. 5:30style shoe who've considered going zero
  163. 5:31drop might like what they see here as
  164. 5:33well and if you've never gone zero drop
  165. 5:36I think this shoe could be a good first
  166. 5:37step if I had to sum them up in a few
  167. 5:39words I'd basically just describe them
  168. 5:41as kind of plush cruisy comfort so there
  169. 5:44you have it that's been our look at the
  170. 5:45new Altra Olympus 2 hope you found it
