  1. 0:01Pretty much every single time I send a
  2. 0:03proposal on Upwork, it gets viewed. Of
  3. 0:05the last four proposals that I sent, all
  4. 0:08four of them were viewed, three of them
  5. 0:09actually responded to me. And if you
  6. 0:11look at the last 100 proposals that I
  7. 0:13sent, somewhere between 70 and 80% of
  8. 0:16those people actually viewed the job
  9. 0:18post. And there's a real science to
  10. 0:20getting more views and getting more
  11. 0:22interviews on Upwork. And if you're not
  12. 0:24getting interviews and you're not
  13. 0:25getting views, it's not your fault. It's
  14. 0:27just that you probably don't understand
  15. 0:28the core three things that we're going
  16. 0:30to cover in this video. I'm going to
  17. 0:31show you exactly how I get 70 to 80% of
  18. 0:34all my proposals viewed. I'm going to
  19. 0:36show you a live example of a job that I
  20. 0:38applied to and what I wrote to them. And
  21. 0:41I'm going to walk you through how we
  22. 0:41close deals like what's on the screen
  23. 0:43right here. Uh average ticket for us is
  24. 0:45anywhere between $600 to $3,000 per
  25. 0:48month. Clients that we work with stay
  26. 0:49with us for multiple months, so this is
  27. 0:52a great high-ticket source of clients.
  28. 0:54Our best clients actually come from
  29. 0:56Upwork, and I've been able to build a
  30. 0:57whole career off of this platform just
  31. 0:59by understanding the things I'm going to
  32. 1:01break down for you in this video.
  33. 1:03Now, if you're sending proposals but
  34. 1:04they're not getting viewed and they're
  35. 1:05not getting interviewed, it's probably
  36. 1:07because you haven't mastered this
  37. 1:08framework right here.
  38. 1:10First of all, let me walk you through
  39. 1:12how people make hiring decisions. This
  40. 1:13is really important for you to know if
  41. 1:14you want to actually get hired, is you
  42. 1:16have to know what does your prospect,
  43. 1:18what does the person who's hiring you
  44. 1:20actually see?
  45. 1:21When they're hiring you, they don't see
  46. 1:23your portfolio. They don't click into
  47. 1:26your profile, and I know this because
  48. 1:27I've coached hundreds of people on
  49. 1:29Upwork. They don't do that. I've seen
  50. 1:31all the data. What people really do is
  51. 1:34they look at just the thumbnail of text
  52. 1:36that Upwork shows them of what you've
  53. 1:38written in your proposal. And this is
  54. 1:40the 225 characters. So, the only
  55. 1:42decision that someone has to decide if
  56. 1:44they're going to click into your
  57. 1:46proposal and actually read what you
  58. 1:47wrote is what you've typed them in the
  59. 1:50first 225 characters. It's almost like
  60. 1:52the thumbnail of your proposal. And
  61. 1:55because of that, it's very, very
  62. 1:56important that we optimize this. When I
  63. 1:58sit down to write my proposals,
  64. 2:00that is where I spend maybe 70, 80% of
  65. 2:04my time. And by the way, all of those
  66. 2:06deals that I showed you on the screen,
  67. 2:07they're all from proposals that I've
  68. 2:09sent. These aren't from people inviting
  69. 2:10me to jobs. I'm not winning more jobs
  70. 2:12because I've got a lot of money earned
  71. 2:13through the platform or I'm top rated or
  72. 2:15anything like that. All of the deals and
  73. 2:17all of the work that I get through
  74. 2:18Upwork comes from me sending proposals.
  75. 2:21And it's because I've mastered how to
  76. 2:22send a proposal that hooks them in with
  77. 2:25the first 225 characters.
  78. 2:28Now, there's three things that needs to
  79. 2:29be in every Upwork proposal. You need to
  80. 2:31repeat back to the person
  81. 2:34the desire that they have. What is their
  82. 2:35goal? You have to show them you
  83. 2:36understand the goal.
  84. 2:38You have to show them proof that you can
  85. 2:39actually help them accomplish whatever
  86. 2:41it is they want to accomplish. And you
  87. 2:43have to show them how. You have to show
  88. 2:45them the mechanism.
  89. 2:48Now, what I'm going to do is I'm going
  90. 2:49to show you a real job post that I
  91. 2:51applied to. This was a client who ended
  92. 2:53up paying me $3,300 to help them with
  93. 2:55their social media. What I do on Upwork
  94. 2:57is I make social media content for
  95. 2:58businesses. That's my whole service.
  96. 3:01I'm going to show you the actual job
  97. 3:02post and I'm going to show you what I
  98. 3:04wrote and applied to them. And I'm going
  99. 3:05to show you how I used my 225 framework,
  100. 3:08what's on the screen right here, to
  101. 3:09actually win this deal.
  102. 3:11All right. So, on the screen here,
  103. 3:12you're going to see the job that I
  104. 3:13applied to. Now, there's a couple things
  105. 3:16that I did really well to make sure that
  106. 3:17this person actually got back to me. The
  107. 3:19first thing is I applied to the job
  108. 3:21quickly.
  109. 3:22A lot of freelancers, what they do is
  110. 3:24they'll apply to jobs that are posted
  111. 3:25hours and hours or maybe even days ago.
  112. 3:28For me, my personal standard is I'm
  113. 3:29never going to apply to a job if it's
  114. 3:31been posted longer than 8 hours or 3
  115. 3:34hours ago, excuse me.
  116. 3:36Anything older than 3 hours, what
  117. 3:37happens is people they go to sleep, they
  118. 3:39go to work, they get distracted, uh they
  119. 3:41stop getting notifications in their
  120. 3:42email. When you first post a job on
  121. 3:44Upwork, it's going to send them lots of
  122. 3:46emails as new applicants come in. So,
  123. 3:48the best time to actually get someone's
  124. 3:50attention and get hired is within 3
  125. 3:51hours of someone posting a job post. And
  126. 3:53that's a non-negotiable. If you're not
  127. 3:55doing that and you start doing that,
  128. 3:56that I bet will double your seen rate.
  129. 3:59Just that. Not even writing better
  130. 4:01proposals, not even focusing your 225,
  131. 4:03just responding to jobs faster will
  132. 4:05completely change your view and your
  133. 4:07interview rate.
  134. 4:08I chose to apply to this job for a
  135. 4:09couple core reasons. One is that it was
  136. 4:11recent. It was posted when I found it
  137. 4:13maybe an hour or two ago.
  138. 4:15Two is that it was personalized. You can
  139. 4:18see in here that they wrote a little bit
  140. 4:19about themselves. Um they mentioned that
  141. 4:22they had been a photographer for
  142. 4:24I think they said 13 years, something
  143. 4:26like that. They gave me a little bit of
  144. 4:27detail as to who they were. This wasn't
  145. 4:29just some AI generated job post. And
  146. 4:31this is one of the things that you have
  147. 4:32to learn how to spot. Is you have to
  148. 4:33learn how to spot AI generated job
  149. 4:35posts, um which is most of them. Upwork
  150. 4:37uses a lot of AI to help people write
  151. 4:39their jobs. So what I'm looking for is
  152. 4:41I'm looking for personal details. I'm
  153. 4:42looking for the desire so I can mention
  154. 4:45to them my 225 that I understand your
  155. 4:47goal. I know exactly what you're looking
  156. 4:48for.
  157. 4:49Another thing that made this prospect a
  158. 4:50great prospect was the hourly range. For
  159. 4:52my services, I'm never going to apply to
  160. 4:54anything that is below the low end of
  161. 4:57the suggested hourly range. So on Upwork
  162. 5:00for social media management services,
  163. 5:02for example, Upwork automatically
  164. 5:03suggests an hourly rate for people when
  165. 5:05they're posting the job between 8 and 25
  166. 5:08per hour.
  167. 5:09So if I see someone who's posting a job
  168. 5:11at $8 per hour, I'm not going to assume
  169. 5:13that's what they want to pay. I'm going
  170. 5:15to assume that they've just used the
  171. 5:16default settings. So I'm looking for a
  172. 5:18job that at minimum pays $8. That
  173. 5:21doesn't mean that's what I'm going to
  174. 5:22charge them. Doesn't mean that's what
  175. 5:24they're going to pay me, but that just
  176. 5:25means that they probably didn't know
  177. 5:27what to pay. At minimum, $8 an hour. In
  178. 5:30this case, they went up to $50 an hour,
  179. 5:32so I knew this was a client that would
  180. 5:33be able to afford my prices. This is
  181. 5:35really important to qualify them based
  182. 5:36on what's here, looking for something
  183. 5:38that has a little bit of
  184. 5:39personalization, and applying to a job
  185. 5:41that's relatively recent. Now let me
  186. 5:43walk you through what I wrote to them
  187. 5:44and why this worked.
  188. 5:46I was able to close a $3,300 deal
  189. 5:48because of these lines here below.
  190. 5:51First off, I always start with hi.
  191. 5:54The reason I always start with hi is
  192. 5:56because it's the shortest number of
  193. 5:57characters. It's less than hey, it's
  194. 6:00less than hello, it's less than my name
  195. 6:02is it's just two letters and I want to
  196. 6:04maximize that 225 characters to the
  197. 6:07point where I'll write and rewrite
  198. 6:08things to try to get them to fit into my
  199. 6:10little thumbnail.
  200. 6:12First of all, I'm going to just show
  201. 6:13them the job title. I am this person.
  202. 6:15This is a little bit of the desire cuz
  203. 6:17in the desire they're telling me they
  204. 6:18want a social media manager.
  205. 6:20Uh and when I read this, I realized they
  206. 6:22really want someone who's more like a
  207. 6:23partner. So in this case when I'm
  208. 6:24writing the 225, I wrote hi, I'm a
  209. 6:27social media marketing partner
  210. 6:29with experience helping at least a dozen
  211. 6:31photographers grow and get more bookings
  212. 6:33via Instagram. That's my proof. I've got
  213. 6:35experience doing this.
  214. 6:38I also mention last year my clients
  215. 6:40generated over 400 million views on
  216. 6:42Instagram alone. Again, more proof. So I
  217. 6:45started off with your desire is to have
  218. 6:47a social media marketing partner and to
  219. 6:49get more bookings on Instagram. I
  220. 6:50repeated that to them subtly in that
  221. 6:52first line. I'm going to stop moving
  222. 6:54this around. I feel like I'm
  223. 6:55taking you guys on a roller coaster
  224. 6:56here. Let me make this a little smaller.
  225. 7:00Then I follow that up with the proof.
  226. 7:02I've worked with a lot of photographers.
  227. 7:03I have got for my clients 400 million
  228. 7:05views on Instagram last year.
  229. 7:07And then I leave this little note to let
  230. 7:09them know that this is personalized. I
  231. 7:10saw you have 13 years of experience.
  232. 7:12That's really important because these
  233. 7:13people are getting hit with AI generated
  234. 7:15job post, copy and paste, whatever it
  235. 7:17is. I handwrite and personalize 100% of
  236. 7:20my 225 characters. This is all going to
  237. 7:22be personalized.
  238. 7:24And then I mention to them, I can help
  239. 7:25you capture your experience and
  240. 7:26translate that into social media success
  241. 7:28using the same systems and strategies
  242. 7:30that are working for my photography
  243. 7:32clients right now. That's the mechanism.
  244. 7:34That's the how. How do I know that I can
  245. 7:36get you results? Because I can help you
  246. 7:39use the the systems and strategies that
  247. 7:41are currently working for my existing
  248. 7:42clients.
  249. 7:43So, we have
  250. 7:45the desire, which is in this case social
  251. 7:47media marketing partner, that's who they
  252. 7:48want to hire.
  253. 7:50They want to grow and get more bookings
  254. 7:51on Instagram. That's the desire again.
  255. 7:53The proof is I've helped at least a
  256. 7:55dozen photographers. My clients gained
  257. 7:58400 million views.
  258. 8:00And then a little bit down here. And the
  259. 8:01mechanism is I can help you capture your
  260. 8:04experience and translate that to social
  261. 8:05media success using these systems and
  262. 8:07strategies. That's the how-to. I'm
  263. 8:09actually hinting a little bit as to how
  264. 8:11I'll be able to help them get results.
  265. 8:13It seems really simple, but I'll take 10
  266. 8:1615 minutes sometimes to write and
  267. 8:18rewrite these 225 characters. This is
  268. 8:21something that I hyper fixate on. I 100%
  269. 8:23personalize and I try to respond to
  270. 8:25these jobs really really quickly. So, if
  271. 8:27you're trying to write proposals,
  272. 8:28winning proposals on Upwork that help
  273. 8:30you close high-ticket recurring clients,
  274. 8:32what you have to do is you have to focus
  275. 8:34on your 225.
  276. 8:36You have to
  277. 8:37have the desire, the proof, the
  278. 8:39mechanism, and then
  279. 8:40you need to apply to jobs that are
  280. 8:42posted within the last 3 hours.
  281. 8:44And you need to handwrite personalize
  282. 8:47all your 225. No copy and paste, no AI,
  283. 8:50no nothing. And you also have to look
  284. 8:52and make sure you're applying to the
  285. 8:52right jobs. It doesn't make sense to
  286. 8:54write a really good proposal for a
  287. 8:55really bad job. So, I spend a lot of
  288. 8:57time scrolling through jobs. Often times
  289. 8:59I'll scroll through a hundred or so jobs
  290. 9:01just to find the top 1% and apply to
  291. 9:04that one.
  292. 9:05I hope this video was helpful for you to
  293. 9:06understand a little bit to how I think
  294. 9:08about this. Send me a message on
  295. 9:10Instagram. My Instagram is in the
  296. 9:11description below if you need help with
  297. 9:12this stuff. And I'll see you in the next
  298. 9:13one.
