2:39uh it's an honor to be back here again
2:41it's been a long time since I had an
2:43opportunity to visit you I pray that uh
2:45this community remains healthy and safe
2:47and that Allah puts barakah in all of
2:50your risk and protect you and your
2:51families in today's
2:54what I want to connect are two things
2:56that seem at first not connected to each
2:59other and instead of telling you what
3:01this is about in the beginning I'll
3:03begin to unfold that for you as we
3:05continue and inshallah you'll see the
3:07point that is that I'm attempting to
3:10make
3:10so what I'm going to start with is
3:13something that Musa
3:14[Music]
3:16have in common
3:18in the story of Musa and in the story of
3:21Islam you see two visual elements two
3:23things that seem to be in common with
3:26each other one of them is the Sea and
3:30the other one is the mountain
3:32so in the story of Musa we know that
3:35when firaun was following him Allah
3:39he opened the sea for Musa and the
3:43Israelites and they went through and
3:45gets drowned inside of the sea we also
3:48know that in the story of new it's the
3:51only other story with flood or drowning
3:53is the punishment given to the
3:55disbelieving nation and so the people
3:57who disbelieved in were drowned in the
4:01beginning of the mission of Musa Allah
4:03azzawajal spoke to him on the mountain
4:05the Arabic word for a mountain is either
4:08jabal or tur those are two words in the
4:11Quran used for the mountain but
4:13regardless Musa Allah spoke to him on
4:16the mountain and at the end of the
4:18Journey of or the you know when Allah
4:20commanded
4:22to build his ship to build the ark After
4:26the flood was over was
4:28the ship landed on top of the mountain
4:32so the two visual elements that these
4:35two stories have in common are the Sea
4:38and the mountain
4:39now one more thing as we get closer to
4:42the point Allah has a very unique style
4:46of speaking in the Quran so when he
4:49speaks about different stories of the
4:51prophets he speaks in unique ways about
4:53each of them but sometimes he uses very
4:56similar language
4:57in one story and then you find the
5:00similar language again in a very
5:01different story and something like that
5:03happens between
5:07so I want to start with Musa when Musa
5:11went up to the mountain Allah tells us
5:13in Surah that when he went up to the
5:16mountain Allah told him
5:18not only is he about to give him the
5:21revelation
5:24we had already done favors to you many
5:27times before this
5:29we Allah has been doing favors to Musa
5:31for a long time
5:33and so he started reminding Musa
5:36alaihissalam when your mother put you in
5:38the basket when your sister was walking
5:41on the side of the river when you were
5:44raised in the house of Iran
5:46when you when we reunited you with your
5:49mother
5:51so her eyes could become cool so she
5:54could find Comfort again I did you the
5:57favor of reuniting you with your mother
5:59then you killed someone
6:01and you escaped and we tried you in many
6:03ways and so they're all of these
6:06different trials that he went through
6:08Allah makes a list of all of them and
6:11then at the end of all of them
6:13the part of the plan was he will get
6:15married in Madia and he will go in the
6:17desert and live there for a while and
6:19then one time he will get lost in the
6:21desert and he will see a fire on top of
6:23a mountain and he goes and tries to see
6:26what maybe he can get some directions
6:27there this is where Allah was having
6:29this conversation with him and he says
6:31to him some interesting things he says
6:33one of the things he says is
6:36you came here right on schedule
6:39you came here exactly according to plan
6:41so all the things you went through or
6:43part of my plan so you could be here at
6:46this moment but part of what Allah says
6:48to him also is you know
6:53I have chosen you for myself
6:56and another really beautiful thing the
6:58thing I want you to focus on now is he
7:00says
7:03so you can be crafted and I'll focus on
7:06the word in a second you can be crafted
7:09under my watch
7:11meaning crafting you know when somebody
7:13works with wood and they make a table
7:15and when somebody works with metal and
7:17they make a sword and in in different
7:19kinds of works you have to do
7:21craftsmanship you have to have art
7:23Artistry you know to cut the angles
7:25properly and to mold it properly people
7:28do a lot of Sunnah when they are making
7:30a pot or when they're making utensils
7:33right so Allah is describing someone
7:36being crafted or designed so Allah is
7:39telling Musa that all of those
7:41experiences you had were part of you
7:44being designed
7:46so you're you know how in engineering
7:48there are stages of product development
7:50and you have to go through one design
7:52phase then the next design phase then
7:53the next design phase it's like Musa Ali
7:56salaam's life was being engineered by
7:58Allah and every part of the design every
8:00one of those experiences was part of the
8:02design so you could be ready for your
8:05real mission
8:06and in this is a really beautiful lesson
8:08that the experiences that we go through
8:10they are part of Allah's design to to
8:13help engineer us because we are like the
8:16human beings are like like a babies like
8:19raw materials right it's like raw
8:21materials and as Allah puts us through
8:23these experiences actually each one of
8:26those experiences starts building our
8:28understanding builds our maturity builds
8:30our experience sometimes you develop
8:33strength by going through pain
8:35right like for this is just Allah's
8:37design you know athletes for example if
8:40they want to improve themselves they
8:42have to push harder than their previous
8:45stamina to improve right and that's how
8:48they're being engineered to perform even
8:49better and better and better so Allah
8:51says to him
8:53so you can be crafted engineered even
8:56under my watch and I want you to
8:58remember this phrase crafted under my
9:00watch
9:01now I told you the connection there's
9:04some sort of a connection between Musa
9:06Ali salaam and I told you about the
9:09mountain and the sea in the story of
9:11Musa and the mountain and the sea in the
9:14story of new halesana then I told you
9:16that Musa Allah says to him you will be
9:19craft you were you're so you could be
9:21crafted under my watch
9:22and then you find a similar phrase in
9:25the story of Islam
9:27when you look at the story of Islam and
9:30Allah told him to build this ship
9:33which was a strange instruction because
9:36there was no water anywhere nearby why
9:39am I building a ship and nobody even
9:41knows how to build a ship
9:42nobody because they don't they're not a
9:44people that live next to the Sea so they
9:46have no reason to know how to build a
9:48ship so Allah gives him and he says
9:54engineer the ship
9:57under our watch
9:59was told I engineered you under my watch
10:03and salaam is being told
10:06engineered this ship under my watch
10:09and so this phrase is similar between
10:11these two stories also
10:13now what let's focus on Islam for a
10:16couple of moments when he was being told
10:19to engineer the ship
10:21then everyone around him who already
10:23they already called him crazy
10:25they already insulted him for many
10:27generations in fact some of the things
10:29we learned in the Quran the hints that
10:30we get is that people used to disbelieve
10:33in and then they would get married young
10:36men disbelieved in him young men and
10:38women they got married they have
10:39children they bring their children and
10:41say don't listen to this crazy old man
10:43and then those children get older they
10:46get married they have children they
10:47bring their children and say my dad told
10:49me don't listen to this crazy old man so
10:52generations and generations used to
10:54insult
10:56but now after 950 years Allah is telling
11:01him build a ship
11:02and they're looking at him building a
11:04ship and this is the we told you he's
11:07crazy this is C this is the craziest
11:10thing he's ever done
11:11right so one of the the big allegations
11:15against is that he is insane by the way
11:19that same accusation was made against
11:21Musa also he was called insane also but
11:24anyway so he's building this this this
11:27Ark the ship under the watch of Allah
11:30but while he is building it the more he
11:33builds it the more people make fun of
11:35him
11:36every day he's working on it you cannot
11:38build the ship in one day you cannot
11:40engineer it in one day you're working on
11:42it working on it working on it and Allah
11:44is it's almost as if you know when you
11:46when you design something when you
11:48especially construction project
11:49engineering project and we know it's big
11:51enough that it's going to fit human
11:53beings it's also going to fit animals so
11:55it's a very large construction project
11:57right so you have to have Blueprints and
12:00you have to have a schematic so you can
12:03put the right pieces in the right place
12:05and you have to have Structural
12:07Engineering even all of this has to be
12:09taken care of Allah says
12:12in another place he says we made we
12:15boarded them boarded him onto something
12:18made up of boards of wood planks of wood
12:21and Nails it's as if every Board of wood
12:24and every nail was designed by Allah put
12:27this here put this here put this here so
12:30everybody else is calling him crazy but
12:32he's working according to the design
12:34Allah has revealed to him
12:36you know and he's designing this ship
12:38now why did I mention both of these
12:40things to you now I I slowly work
12:42towards the point that I wanted to share
12:44with you in this it's a really beautiful
12:46Surah in the Quran that I came here to
12:49uh to not only study but share some
12:52lessons from uh with a group of uh our
12:55students
12:58number 52 in the Quran and I'd like you
13:00to go after the this weekend just read
13:03through on your own
13:05in the beginning of Allah takes a number
13:08of Oaths he swears by a number of things
13:12the first thing he swears by is the
13:15mountain
13:16and the last thing he swears by is the
13:18sea
13:19so what's your
13:31so the first thing was the mountain and
13:32the last thing was the sea
13:34and it's very subtle and delicate that
13:37at the end of this Surah
13:39Allah talked to his prophet
13:46and he said to him
13:54keep moving forward with patience stay
13:57strong on your mission
13:59because you are commanded by the by your
14:01rub
14:02because of the hukum of your rub stay
14:05keep working forward because you are
14:08definitely under our eyes
14:11the same phrase that I told you was used
14:14in the story of Musa the same phrase
14:17that was used in the story of Islam is a
14:20similar phrase that now Allah is using
14:22for Muhammad rasulullah and he's using
14:26it in the beginning of which he made a
14:29hint towards the mountain and he made a
14:30hint towards the sea but what does it
14:33mean for our Prophet Allah
14:36it actually it's kind of a combination
14:38of both of those stories and then even
14:41more
14:42in the sense that rasulullah
14:45is going to go through many many
14:48experiences while he is in Makkah
14:51and every one of those experiences is
14:54part of what Allah wants him to go
14:56through not just for him but actually
14:58the the the the lessons for all of the
15:01ummah until Judgment Day are being
15:03designed by the experiences that our
15:05Prophet is going through
15:07if we contemplate that for a little bit
15:09that's a very powerful lesson what is
15:12that lesson every Surah of the Quran
15:14that we recite so beautifully our Quran
15:17memorize them and we enjoy them reciting
15:20them in the prayer when those surahs
15:21were given to the prophet sallallahu
15:23alaihi wasallam when he would recite
15:25them people would call him crazy
15:28people would insult him
15:30and he had to go through those
15:32experiences so that a thousand and a
15:35half years later you and I can recite
15:37those same surahs you understand so he
15:40Allah put him through that because
15:42actually he had to go through that so
15:44one day we can value what we're reciting
15:46so one of the things that every Muslim
15:48myself and yourself should be aware of
15:50is the words of Allah that we get to
15:53recite they're not cheap
15:54it was a big sacrifice that had to be
15:57made and then was being crafted and his
16:00mission was being designed by Allah
16:03with a lot of pain so that one day we
16:06can have the convenience of having
16:08access to the word of Allah because it
16:10did not come to us in an easy way it
16:12came through us to the sacrament through
16:14the sacrifices of our Messengers
16:16and those that believed in him the other
16:19thing is that in both of those stories
16:22especially in the story of Islam told to
16:27build this ship but why was he telling
16:29him to build the ship because the adab
16:31of Allah is very close
16:33the adab of Allah is very close so two
16:35things are getting closer so two things
16:38are increasing one the the the the the
16:40time they have left and the state of
16:44emergency is increasing two the way they
16:46make fun of him is also increasing and
16:49as the prophet sallallahu alaihi
16:51wasallam was making his dharwah and he
16:53was sharing the Quran with the people of
16:55Makkah their aggressiveness towards him
16:58was also increasing
17:00and the more their aggressiveness was
17:02increasing the time for Hijra was also
17:05coming closer and closer
17:06the time to leave Makkah was coming
17:08closer and closer when he has to leave
17:10Makkah the moment he will leave Makkah
17:13the the new chapter will begin and that
17:16new chapter is not just the life in
17:18Medina it's the chapter of adab
17:20punishment for the people of Makkah and
17:23the first episode of that punishment was
17:25badar the second episode was and so on
17:28and so forth right so punishment will
17:31the the face of dawah is over now
17:33Allah's punishments will begin for them
17:36has to build the ark and soon after that
17:38the punishment of Allah will come
17:41is being told you stay on your mission
17:44we're watching
17:46we're watching
17:49but there's a subtle difference
17:52there's a really interesting small
17:54difference
17:55and there's a beautiful connection also
17:57between the building of the Ark and what
17:59the prophet saws was given when Allah
18:01says
18:04was told to build the ark was
18:08it also suggested that we will watch
18:10over every single nail
18:13every single piece of wood we will
18:16control every part of this design
18:18and rasulullah is being told
18:22was
18:26stay committed to your mission no matter
18:28what people are saying to you no matter
18:30how much they call you crazy whatever
18:32insults they give you
18:34keep moving forward don't back down
18:36because every step you take is being
18:39designed by us
18:41every single step you take is being
18:43designed by us
18:45so don't think these people have control
18:48don't think these people can cause any
18:51failure they cannot cause anything you
18:52just keep doing what you're doing your
18:55mission is this and it doesn't matter
18:57what anybody else says so it's almost
18:59like when is thinking about the work
19:02that he's doing he can't help but make
19:04the connection between
19:06was doing
19:08as he was building the ark but the
19:10problem with that was the more you build
19:13the ark the closer you get towards the
19:15punishment
19:16the closer you the people of Noah are
19:19getting towards punishment and the more
19:21rasulullah is giving the closer his
19:24people are getting towards the
19:26punishment things are about to change
19:29things are about to change and so
19:31beautifully what Allah does in this in
19:33in this Surah he tells the prophet Allah
19:36to make this be
19:39he he tells them it seems like it's
19:41unrelated
19:51as you get to the end of the Surah the
19:54prophet saws is being told keep doing
19:56this be of Allah until it
20:01meaning duties we have Allah in the
20:03night time also
20:04until the stars begin to disappear
20:08meaning Fajr time yeah
20:10and this is a very important image
20:12because the image of doing this be of
20:15Allah in the night
20:17is actually like his mission he is
20:20calling to Allah describing the
20:22Perfection of Allah sharing the word of
20:24Allah and around him is the darkness of
20:27kuffer Darkness of shirk like the
20:29darkness of the night
20:31and soon that situation is about to
20:33change there's going to be a new morning
20:35that's coming a new light is going to
20:38emerge out of Medina a new situation is
20:41going to arise and to prepare for that
20:43mentally the prophet saws is being told
20:49declare Allah's Perfection until the
20:53coming of the morning
20:54until The Disappearance of the Stars
20:57meaning there's new light that's coming
20:59right so in it there's a subtle hint
21:01that things are about to change until
21:03the hukum of Allah comes until then you
21:06keep doing this
21:08until then you keep working but soon I
21:11will give you a new how come a new rule
21:14and that rule will be to make Hijra and
21:16you'll have to go so in the last part of
21:18this I wanted to share with you what
21:20this means for you and me these are just
21:22some connections that I wanted to show
21:23you how beautifully and very delicately
21:25there are connections made in the Quran
21:27between things but what does that mean
21:30for you and me
21:31you see the prophet Allah is being told
21:34that sometimes when you and through him
21:37we're learning when you do the right
21:38thing
21:40when you follow the command of Allah
21:43when you stand by the truth when you
21:46stand by what is just
21:48when you don't allow corruption to
21:50happen under your watch
21:52when you call it out
21:54whenever you do that it requires
21:57because whenever you say the truth
21:59somebody gets angry
22:02if you say the truth to your mother
22:04she'll get angry if you say the truth to
22:06your wife don't try this at home she'll
22:08get angry if you tell the truth to your
22:11brother he'll might get angry there's a
22:12truth inside you there's something wrong
22:15has happened if you speak the truth in
22:16the family sometimes if you speak the
22:19truth in your department the manager
22:21might get angry if you speak the truth
22:23in court some politician might get angry
22:26you know they whenever people stand by
22:30the right thing
22:31then people get offended you're afraid
22:33to get attacked when you do the right
22:36thing
22:36and so what did the prophet saws get
22:38told wasability this is summer actually
22:41is I'm Gonna Stand by the right thing no
22:44matter what happens
22:46no matter what no matter what people say
22:48no matter how much they attack me in
22:50fact in the Surah right before this
22:54are they planning are they scheming are
22:56they making a plan to hurt the prophet
22:58in some way is that what they're
23:00planning let them plan
23:02you just do what your rub told you
23:04you keep doing that
23:06but when you do that it's scary
23:09it's scary and so what Allah tells his
23:11Prophet saws is that yes they will
23:13attack they will insult they will even
23:16by the way they did try to kill the
23:17prophet didn't they
23:19before he could leave Makkah they tried
23:21to kill him
23:22so it will get more and more serious but
23:25just know even when they're trying to
23:27kill you you are under our eye Allah is
23:29watching
23:31and this being under the eye of Allah is
23:33actually a very loving phrase It's a
23:36phrase of it's not just oh we're
23:37watching you like you know like a
23:39security camera watching it's not like
23:41that it's it's much more loving than
23:43that like a mother who takes her child
23:46out
23:47and she's a little baby two three years
23:49old he's walking a little bit and the
23:51mother every two three seconds she's
23:52checking if he's still there
23:54or if he if he lets go over a hand for a
23:57quick second she immediately gets it
23:58again because she keeps she needs to
24:00keep an eye on the baby every second
24:02this is
24:03under her eyes
24:06under her eyes and so when the prophet
24:09saws is being told Allah is watching
24:11Allah is telling him you're never alone
24:14when you think they have there are so
24:16many of them and there's a few of the
24:17followers they have so much power I have
24:20nothing no you have Allah with you so
24:22you Hospital
24:25what that means for you and me again is
24:27we've gotta be strong
24:29and we've gotta we've gotta keep doing
24:32the right thing until it becomes
24:34impossible to do the right thing
24:36until the very moment it becomes
24:38impossible and when it becomes
24:40impossible Allah will open a new door
24:43because Allah that's his promise in
24:45other places in the Quran too
24:48of Allah Allah will make a new way out
24:51for them
24:52a new exit a new possibility this is
24:55like similar to the Dua the prophet saws
24:57was told to make
25:03you know when you when you bring me into
25:06a situation bring me with truth and if
25:08you get me out of a situation get me out
25:10because of Truth
25:12you know and it's a loaded phrase but
25:14the fundamental idea is the same the
25:17idea is you and I cannot just say we
25:20stand up for justice without going
25:21through pain you have to go through pain
25:23Allah love this Prophet saws so much
25:26and he allowed him to go through a lot
25:28of pain
25:29and that's an important lesson means you
25:32have to go through pain
25:34and when we are ready to go through that
25:35pain then like
25:38Musa and finally like even rasulullah
25:42we are going to be under the eye of
25:44Allah Allah is going to be watching and
25:47he is going to and how will you find
25:49this when will Allah give a new way for
25:51you how will Allah make a new you know
25:54opening for you well the secret is given
25:56in the Surah isn't it
26:03every time you get up
26:06just remember Allah in every activity
26:08means basically any activity everything
26:11you're about to do remember Allah first
26:14Ya Allah I know you're watching Ya Allah
26:16I know you're perfect do that first and
26:19then do whatever job you're about to do
26:20and then even at night time when all
26:23your activities are done then get up in
26:25the middle of the night and then declare
26:27Allah's Perfection again until the Stars
26:29disappear we connect ourselves to Allah
26:32and Allah guarantees he will bring a new
26:34situation
26:36but it's not just Dua to Allah it's
26:38standing up for the truth and Dua to
26:41Allah and so this is what I want to
26:43conclude with some people they have this
26:46wrong idea yosada made so much Dua to
26:49Allah Allah is not changing anything
26:51I keep making Dua I keep making Dua but
26:53nothing is changing
26:55right but the only problem with that is
26:57you're making Dua but you don't have any
26:58Sabbath and Saba doesn't mean that you
27:01sit there and let the situation happen
27:03then I ask sometimes what is not
27:05changing well my father he gets really
27:07angry and I make so much Dua that Allah
27:09makes him a happy person and he stops
27:12being an angry person but that's not
27:13happening well Dua the purpose of Dua is
27:16not to change another human being but
27:18maybe you should have some which also
27:20means you should talk to your dad about
27:22his anger problem
27:24oh no no I can't do that well then don't
27:26stop making Dora then
27:28because you don't have the suburb that
27:30because Subway requires you have to
27:32speak the truth
27:33someone requires you have to confront
27:35the situation and then with that is this
27:38beer with that is Dua those two things
27:40go hand in hand you can't just not do
27:42anything and then just okay I'm making

27:47powerful lesson is being given to the
27:49prophet saws he wasn't just told do this
27:52be Allah will get rid of your enemies no

27:58have suffered against the things they're
28:00saying still face them still share the
28:02truth with them be insulted by them even
28:05deal with their attacks all of that will
28:08happen but at the same time keep doing
28:10this be this is the mentality I have to
28:12develop this is the thought process I
28:14have to develop this is the thought
28:16process was given this is the thought
28:18the mentality was given and it was
28:21finally in its perfected form given to
28:23rasulullah may Allah guide our actions
28:27and our thoughts and our emotions
28:28through his beautiful words may Allah
28:31bring the blessings of the Quran into my
28:33life and yours is
