- 0:00It was the dead of night.
- 0:0227-year-old Allison Boa had just
- 0:05survived a brutal attack, watching her

- 0:10leaving her behind with 37 stab wounds
- 0:13to her abdomen and 17 to her neck.
- 0:17Allison thought she should just lie
- 0:19there and wait for death, but a fierce
- 0:22will to survive wouldn't let her
- 0:24surrender.
- 0:26Realizing her abdominal wound was gaping
- 0:28open, she tried to use her shirt as a
- 0:31makeshift bandage.
- 0:33Then, with extraordinary determination,
- 0:36she stood up to seek help. However, the
- 0:39moment she stood up, her head spun and
- 0:42her vision blurred. She reached up to
- 0:45her neck and realized something
- 0:47horrifying. Her head was severed from

- 1:26>> Port Elizabeth, a coastal city in the
- 1:29southeast of South Africa, is famous for
- 1:31its relaxed, pleasant atmosphere.
- 1:34It was here that Allison Boa was born on
- 1:37September 22nd, 1967
- 1:41into the loving arms of her parents,
- 1:43Clare and Brian Botha. When Allison was
- 1:4610, her parents separated.
- 1:50She lived with her mother and brother.
- 1:52An excellent student, she was always a
- 1:54high achiever and was even the headgirl
- 1:57at Collegiate High School for Girls in
- 1:59Port Elizabeth.
- 2:01After graduating, Allison spent a few
- 2:04years traveling before returning to
- 2:06South Africa to start a job as an
- 2:08insurance broker. Her life was filled
- 2:11with joy and hope, surrounded by family
- 2:14and friends.
- 2:16But then a cruel twist of fate pushed
- 2:18her into the path of France Duttois and
- 2:21Teun's Krueger.
- 2:23France Dutis, 24, carried a sinful past
- 2:27from a young age. He had burned down a
- 2:30school when he was just a teenager.
- 2:33Over time, his criminal behavior
- 2:35continued to escalate, specifically
- 2:38targeting women through violent
- 2:39assaults.
- 2:41Although he had been involved in
- 2:43multiple sexual assault cases, Duttoy
- 2:46often escaped with light sentences due
- 2:48to a lax justice system. In contrast,
- 2:52Theun's Krueger, 23, grew up in a
- 2:55violent home. His father wasn't a
- 2:57guardian of the law like Douit's father,
- 3:00but a career criminal who spent most of
- 3:02his life in prison.
- 3:05While Dwight was confident in his
- 3:07appearance and ability to attract women,
- 3:10Krueger always felt inferior about his
- 3:12looks and intellect.
- 3:15The rejection he felt from women fueled
- 3:17a deep hatred within him. Both Dtoit and
- 3:21Krueger felt rejected by society. Their
- 3:24psychological deviations and ruthless
- 3:26attitude toward others bonded them into
- 3:28a dangerous duo. where both were drawn
- 3:31to Satanism, which made them even more
- 3:33terrifying. And unfortunately for
- 3:36Allison Botha, she was about to face
- 3:39their cruelty. On December 18th, 1994,
- 3:44Allison Botha enjoyed a sunny day at the
- 3:46beach in Port Elizabeth with friends.
- 3:49Afterward, she invited everyone back to
- 3:52her apartment where they continued the
- 3:54fun evening with pizza and games.
- 3:58As night fell, her friends left one by
- 4:00one, leaving only a friend who didn't
- 4:02have a car.
- 4:04Worried for her friend's safety in the
- 4:06quiet neighborhood, Allison offered to
- 4:09drive her home. After dropping her
- 4:12friend off safely, she returned to her
- 4:14apartment.
- 4:16Around 3:00 a.m., her usual parking spot
- 4:18was taken, forcing Allison to park
- 4:21further away. Just as she parked and was
- 4:24reaching for her laundry on the
- 4:25passenger seat, Allison suddenly felt a
- 4:28warm breath on her as the driver's side
- 4:31door swung open. A man held a knife
- 4:34right up to her. The attacker called
- 4:36himself Clinton, but was later
- 4:39identified as France Dutat.
- 4:41He reassured Allison that he only wanted
- 4:44the car and wouldn't hurt her if she
- 4:45listened and cooperated.
- 4:48Trembling, Allison handed him the car
- 4:50keys. In sheer terror, she silently
- 4:53watched him get into the driver's seat.
- 4:56He then picked up another man, Thun's
- 4:59Krueger, and drove straight out to a
- 5:01desolate area on the outskirts of town.
- 5:04On the dark road, the cold stare of the
- 5:07second man sent shivers down Allison's
- 5:09spine. When they reached a remote
- 5:12location, the two men revealed their
- 5:14evil nature.
- 5:16They bluntly stated their intention to
- 5:18force themselves on Allison and asked if
- 5:20she planned to resist. Paralyzed by
- 5:23their threats and fear, Allison had no
- 5:26choice but to shake her head in silent
- 5:28resignation.
- 5:30She was shoved hard onto the ground,
- 5:32which was littered with broken glass,
- 5:34dirt, and trash.
- 5:37Fron dutis, the first attacker, began to
- 5:41torment Allison. Once he was finished,
- 5:44he pushed her over to Theon's Krueger to
- 5:46continue. After satisfying their sick
- 5:49desires, they came to a cold and brutal
- 5:52decision. They would kill Allison to
- 5:54silence her.
- 5:56As they carried this out, they strangled
- 5:59Allison, trying to suffocate her. This
- 6:03act caused Allison to lose control of
- 6:05her bowels and soil herself. This
- 6:08natural reaction, which seemed shameful,
- 6:11unexpectedly became a factor that saved
- 6:13her life. Even so, Allison passed out,
- 6:19but she was still breathing.
- 6:21Seeing this, the two criminals decided
- 6:24to use a more brutal method, attacking
- 6:26her with a knife. They stabbed Allison
- 6:2937 times in the stomach. Not stopping
- 6:33there, in a final effort to take the
- 6:35poor girl's life, they dealt another 17
- 6:38blows to her neck, tit in her days,
- 6:41through the fading mist of
- 6:43consciousness. Allison saw an arm
- 6:46vaguely swinging in front of her face.
- 6:49Accompanying it was a wet sound that she
- 6:51later realized was the sound of her own
- 6:53flesh being severed. She recalled, "All
- 6:57I could see was an arm moving across my
- 7:00face. His movement made a sound, a wet
- 7:03sound. He was slitting my throat. I
- 7:06didn't feel pain, but it wasn't a dream.
- 7:10"Is she dead yet?" one of them asked.
- 7:13The other replied, "No one could survive
- 7:16this." Believing Allison had taken her
- 7:19last breath, Fran Duttois and Theun's
- 7:22Krueger quickly got into her car. The
- 7:25two chatted as they drove back to the
- 7:27city, confident they had erased all
- 7:30traces. But using their real names and
- 7:33leaving Allison at the scene turned out
- 7:35to be their fatal mistake.
- 7:38Allison lay motionless on the ground,
- 7:40her body covered in wounds. But
- 7:42miraculously, she was still breathing.
- 7:46Certain she was on the brink of death,
- 7:49she decided to leave a final message.
- 7:52Using a trembling finger, she scrolled
- 7:54two names in the dirt. France and
- 7:57Theunes.
- 7:59Below the names of her killers, she
- 8:01wrote, "I love you, Mom." Desperate but
- 8:05not giving up, Allison noticed
- 8:07headlights flickering in the distance.
- 8:10If she could make it to that road, she
- 8:12might have a chance at survival.
- 8:15Fighting through excruciating pain,
- 8:17Allison summoned every ounce of strength
- 8:20she had left to move.
- 8:22In her days, she tried to hold her
- 8:24intestines inside her abdomen.
- 8:27Finding her denim shirt nearby, she
- 8:30wrapped it around herself to hold her
- 8:32insides in place. At first, Allison
- 8:35tried to crawl, but realizing it was too
- 8:38slow, she decided to stand up and walk.
- 8:42As soon as she stood, Allison felt her
- 8:45head fall backward and her vision
- 8:47blurred. The fatal slashes to her neck
- 8:51had caused severe damage. She had no
- 8:54choice but to stumble forward, one hand
- 8:56holding her organs, the other trying to
- 8:59keep her head from falling too far to
- 9:01the side.
- 9:03Allison later recalled.
- 9:05I pulled my head forward with my other
- 9:07hand, and my vision returned.
- 9:10Finally, luck smiled upon Allison.
- 9:14Exhausted after her long, painful
- 9:16journey, she was still lucid enough to
- 9:18choose a spot where she would be easily
- 9:20seen.
- 9:22She collapsed in the middle of the road,
- 9:25right on the white line.
- 9:27She vaguely remembered a car
- 9:29approaching, slowing down, and then
- 9:32driving away upon seeing her naked,
- 9:34bloodied body.
- 9:36Then another car appeared.
- 9:39Inside was a group of young friends from
- 9:41Johannesburg on vacation, including
- 9:44Tionard, a veterinary student.
- 9:48Horrified by the gruesome sight. Tion
- 9:51and his friends immediately stopped to
- 9:53help the woman lying in the road, Tion
- 9:56jumped out, took Allison's trembling
- 9:58hand, and comforted her.
- 10:02In the chaos, using his veterinary
- 10:04knowledge, he administered first aid to
- 10:06her neck wound. using his own shirt as a
- 10:09bandage to staunch the bleeding. To keep
- 10:12Allison conscious, Tiaan kept asking her
- 10:15simple questions. Unable to speak,
- 10:19Allison could only communicate by
- 10:21squeezing his hand. Once for yes and
- 10:24twice for no.
- 10:26Tion later remembered, "God put me on
- 10:30that road that night for a reason."
- 10:33He spent 45 minutes by Allison's side
- 10:36talking to her and comforting her until
- 10:39the ambulance arrived. Even though the
- 10:41drive should have only taken 15 minutes,
- 10:44the shocked expressions on the
- 10:46paramedic's faces when they saw Allison
- 10:48said it all. No one thought she could
- 10:51survive. When she was loaded into the
- 10:54ambulance, Allison refused to let go of
- 10:57Tion's hand, so he rode with her to the
- 10:59hospital.
- 11:01The medical staff was astounded by the
- 11:03severity of Allison's wounds.
- 11:06Dr. Alexander Angelov, who treated her
- 11:09directly, later shared that he had never
- 11:12seen such a severe case in his 16 years
- 11:15of practice, although she had over 50
- 11:18wounds. Miraculously,
- 11:20none of them hit major organs or
- 11:22arteries.
- 11:24Because Allison's stomach had been empty
- 11:26beforehand, her abdominal cavity didn't
- 11:29develop sepsis, a dangerous complication
- 11:33common in similar cases.
- 11:35Furthermore, even though her open wounds
- 11:38were full of dirt, she didn't get an
- 11:40infection.
- 11:42Defying all odds, Allison survived a
- 11:45three-hour surgery. Due to the damage to
- 11:48her throat, she had to breathe through a
- 11:51tube.
- 11:52Although she couldn't speak, Allison was
- 11:55still able to identify her two attackers
- 11:58from photos provided by the police.
- 12:01She remembered every detail of the
- 12:03attack, which greatly aided in the
- 12:05capture of Douit and Krueger.
- 12:09With their thick criminal records,
- 12:11arresting Duit and Krueger wasn't
- 12:13difficult. Police caught them the very
- 12:16next day and brought them in for a live
- 12:18lineup. To ensure Allison's safety, the
- 12:22police used a one-way mirror, the first
- 12:25time this technology was applied in
- 12:27South Africa, to shield her from the
- 12:29view of the two attackers.
- 12:32Even though they had tried to change
- 12:33their appearance, Allison easily
- 12:36recognized them.
- 12:38Known for their savage crimes, the two
- 12:41attackers faced multiple serious
- 12:43charges, including kidnapping, rape, and
- 12:46attempted murder. When interrogated
- 12:48about the case involving Allison, Due to
- 12:52assumed the police were investigating
- 12:54her murder. So S when he was informed
- 12:57that Allison was still alive, he quickly
- 13:00confessed to the crime and handed over
- 13:02one of the victim's rings.
- 13:05Then Dit unexpectedly claimed he was
- 13:08possessed by demons and demanded an
- 13:11exorcism.
- 13:12Surprisingly, authorities granted this
- 13:15request and sent a clergyman to perform
- 13:17the ritual. However, even an exorcism
- 13:21couldn't help Dutat and Krueger escaped
- 13:23justice.
- 13:25On June 12th, 1995, the trial of Dutat
- 13:29and Krueger officially began. One
- 13:32defense attorney withdrew for ethical
- 13:34reasons after learning the details of
- 13:36the case.
- 13:38Allison bravely faced her two attackers
- 13:40and testified against them.
- 13:43Alongside her, other victims stood up to
- 13:46testify, including a female student whom
- 13:49Dut had sexually assaulted and a
- 13:52pregnant woman who had been subjected to
- 13:54similar acts by both men. Just days
- 13:57before the brutal attack on Allison, the
- 14:00two criminals had warned a victim not to
- 14:02call the police, but she did exactly
- 14:05that right after being released.
- 14:07This action may have made them
- 14:09determined not to leave any witnesses
- 14:11alive in the future.
- 14:14Tragically, after being arrested for the
- 14:16attack on the pregnant woman, Krueger
- 14:19had been quickly released.
- 14:21A third woman who testified had narrowly
- 14:24escaped a similar fate.
- 14:27Around the time of Allison's attack, she
- 14:30noticed two men following her while she
- 14:32was parking. Quickly locking her car
- 14:34doors, she avoided an attack.
- 14:38Later, through news reports about
- 14:39Allison's case, she realized those two
- 14:42men were the very ones who had stalked
- 14:44her that night. With undeniable evidence
- 14:48and powerful testimony from the victims
- 14:50on August 7th, 1995,
- 14:53the final verdict was delivered. Fron
- 14:56Dutat and Theon Krueger were found
- 14:58guilty on all horrific charges. Appalled
- 15:02by the brutality of the case, Judge
- 15:04Chris Jansen sentenced Duty to life in
- 15:07prison while Krueger received a life
- 15:10sentence plus 25 years.
- 15:13Judge Jansen emphasized, "I need to
- 15:16state clearly, they are a threat to
- 15:18society and should never be released."
- 15:22However, under South African law, all
- 15:25prisoners convicted before October 2004
- 15:28are eligible for parole.
- 15:31After the trial, Allison Boa fell into
- 15:34depression, which was understandable
- 15:36after what she had endured. But a ray of
- 15:39hope arrived when she reconnected with
- 15:41an old friend, someone who had also
- 15:44experienced psychological trauma.
- 15:47Their bond grew, leading to marriage in
- 15:50February 1997.
- 15:53They had two sons together.
- 15:55The fateful meeting with Allison Boa
- 15:57also had a profound impact on Tion.
- 16:01The young man who saved her life
- 16:03realized his true calling lay in saving
- 16:06people. Tion decided to change his
- 16:09career path, leaving veterinary medicine
- 16:11to pursue human medicine.
- 16:14He and Allison stayed in touch and
- 16:16became close friends. Tion was even
- 16:19present to support her during the birth
- 16:21of one of Allison's sons.
- 16:24The horrific experience of yestery year
- 16:26became the motivation for Allison to
- 16:28rise up and inspire others.
- 16:32In 1998, she published her memoir, I
- 16:35have life, recounting her extraordinary
- 16:38survival story.
- 16:40The book quickly became a global
- 16:42phenomenon, translated into seven
- 16:45languages and becoming a best-seller.
- 16:48Since then, Allison has become a
- 16:51renowned motivational speaker, traveling
- 16:54everywhere to share her story and
- 16:56empower other victims.
- 16:58Following the resounding success of the
- 17:00book, Allison was approached by a
- 17:03production company to adapt her story
- 17:05for the big screen. She agreed to
- 17:08collaborate with director and
- 17:09screenwriter Ugga Carlini, who was
- 17:12captivated by Allison's story after
- 17:14hearing one of her inspiring speeches.
- 17:17During filming, France contacted Carini
- 17:20via a warden's cell phone. Despite
- 17:23having caused excruciating pain to
- 17:25Allison and many other women, he
- 17:28brazenly requested an interview in
- 17:30exchange for a letter of forgiveness
- 17:32signed by Allison along with a share of
- 17:35the profits from her book and speeches.
- 17:38He justified this by claiming that
- 17:40without him, she wouldn't have a story
- 17:43to tell. This outrageous proposal was
- 17:46immediately rejected. The film was
- 17:48completed and released in 2016, becoming
- 17:52the first film in South African
- 17:53cinematic history to be selected for the
- 17:56Dances with Films Festival in Los
- 17:58Angeles. In 2016, Nelson Mandela
- 18:02Metropolitan University awarded Allison
- 18:04Botha a prestigious council award in
- 18:07recognizing her contributions to
- 18:10empowering the community.
- 18:12As for the perpetrators, France Dutis
- 18:16served time at a maximum security prison
- 18:18in the Free State while Theons Krueger
- 18:21was held at Cmax Prison in Ptoria,
- 18:24one of the most heavily guarded prisons
- 18:26for dangerous criminals.
- 18:29However, a shocking update has shaken
- 18:32the public. In July 2023,
- 18:35both France Dutis and Tun Krueger were
- 18:39officially granted parole and released
- 18:41after 28 years in prison despite
- 18:44societal concerns.
- 18:47The case of Allison Botha is a testament
- 18:49to the extraordinary power of the will
- 18:52to survive and the human ability to
- 18:54overcome adversity. Her story is not
- 18:58just a reminder of the horrific cruelty
- 19:00humans can inflict on one another, but
- 19:03also a lesson in courage, resilience,
- 19:06and the ability to find light in the
- 19:08darkness. From a terrifying tragedy,
- 19:12Allison rose to become an inspiration
- 19:14for millions around the world. Her story
- 19:17urges us to cherish life, fight for
- 19:20justice, and never give up hope, even in
- 19:24the most difficult circumstances.
