3. 0:03today, restating in his words everything
4. 0:06that happened the night of the murder.
5. 0:08Some of his focuses included the blood
6. 0:11on him, his change in clothing, and his
7. 0:14alibis. News 19's Rachel Ripp continues
8. 0:17our team coverage now with more.
9. 0:19Alex Murdaugh, the defendant himself,
10. 0:22took the stand earlier this morning
11. 0:24after brief testimony from a close
12. 0:26family friend, Nolan Tooten. Now,
13. 0:28Murdaugh testified that he did, in fact,
14. 0:31have blood on his fingertips the night
15. 0:33of the murders. Murdaugh went on to say
16. 0:36that if blood found on his 2021 Chevy
17. 0:39Suburban was fresh, that he put it
18. 0:41there, including that the blood found on
19. 0:43his gun he was holding when law
20. 0:44enforcement came to the scene the night
21. 0:46of the murders was blood he put there
22. 0:48from touching Maggie's body. Murdaugh
23. 0:50testified there was no way he had
24. 0:52high-velocity blood spatter on him, and
25. 0:55that he was nowhere near Maggie and Paul
26. 0:57when they were shot.
27. 0:59I'm well aware that my clothes never
28. 1:02became an issue in this case until my
29. 1:05lawyers
30. 1:10proved
31. 1:11that this blood spatter that they said I
32. 1:13had on my shirt from my wife and my son
33. 1:18was a lie.
34. 1:20And that there was no blood on my shirt.
35. 1:23And once they filed the documents and
36. 1:25they proved that that was a lie,
37. 1:28all of a sudden the clothes I was
38. 1:30wearing back on that day became an
39. 1:32issue.
40. 1:40And that's in the weeks
41. 1:42leading up to this trial.
42. 1:44Murdaugh testified that SLED did not ask
43. 1:46him on August 11th, 2021, to produce
44. 1:50clothes he was seen wearing the morning
45. 1:51of the murders, and that SLED never has.
46. 1:55Alex Murdaugh testified that he knew
47. 1:57phone and his wife's phone never crossed
48. 2:00paths the night of the murders. He also
49. 2:02testified that he spoke to SLED agent
50. 2:05David Owen about this several times.
