2:23this has been going on for over two
2:24months and we've done a lot of work I
2:28know yet and I've got some more
2:30questions on how many clarifications on
2:33the time
2:35so we'll just we'll start with that wait
2:37a minute
2:39um maybe um maybe I'm mistaken I felt I
2:43thought we were coming here so you can
2:45update him on what's going on
2:48and I intend to do that okay
2:51I love that first the update is I'm
2:53doing the investigation and I'd have
2:55some questions that I need I would like
2:58some answers to
3:01and I mean certainly if you know I asked

3:05if you don't answer you don't have to

3:10clarifications of the two interviews

5:27that I have that I needed explanations

8:02an appointment

8:25and I know when you were at the office
8:27you were working on motions and some of
8:29those emotions you've dealt with
8:31before Paul's the boat accident or the
8:35vote case
8:37I don't really
8:38I'm not really doing illegal work I
8:41understand I understand but you know

8:44Paul's dad your lawyer you're definitely
8:46gonna know what's going on yeah
8:49um I mean so what were those motions
8:53I mean did it deal with Parkers or was
8:55it an actual boat accident or it was the
8:57Civil it was the civil case
9:05what time did you leave
9:07and get home
9:09earlier than normal
9:12um I'd say 5 30. let's get up the office

9:17what time did Paul get home that night
9:20um me and Paul
9:24got there by the same time
9:30maybe he was a little bit later than me
9:33or maybe a little bit earlier than me
9:35but it was close to the same time
9:39and y'all rode around the farm
9:42I believe you said two different trucks
9:44or two different Vehicles instead what
9:47were those two different vehicles
9:50we wrote it in the white pickup truck
9:53and we rode in his bike to come true

9:59either one of those

11:40having trouble is feed it swelled up if
11:42we were worried about blood pressure and
11:44stress on him and I mean he handled all
11:48this stuff so amazingly but I mean we
11:51were just so worried about it
11:53but I mean we talked about that we
11:55talked about the song we just talked
11:57about
11:58everything
12:01has always seen a doctor for to speak
12:04necessary
12:11um yeah he had been resistant but
12:14um
12:15much less so after his feet swelled up
12:19I mean he'd been having all kinds of
12:21little problems but much less after his
12:24feet swelled up
12:26because his parents I'm sure you and
12:28Maggie State all have about going how I
12:30mean how did he respond to you to going
12:33out you know going to the doctor you
12:35know talked about it he's very resistant
12:39very very resistant I mean we talked to
12:41him about seeing a doctor
12:44about the stresses of everything with
12:47the boat rack
12:49um
12:49he didn't think he needed to do that
12:53um
12:54I mean we tried to watch him really
12:56closely
12:58um
13:01that he was resistant
13:07we're coming back to get back home
13:08tonight later
13:11um
13:15I'd say probably
13:17the best I can tell a couple hours after
13:21um
13:25after us after we got there
13:28there
13:32can't remember if Matthew came by the uh
13:37shed
13:38and Paul and I went up there or if we
13:41met her at the house but
13:43you know
13:46It's Not Unusual for her if we're
13:48messing around for her to swinging
13:50through up there
13:56and maybe it was supposed to be coming
13:59from I should have found out
14:02she was worried about me
14:04and
14:06me worrying about my dad except she came
14:10home
14:12so at that point in the interview she
14:13said
14:15did he tell you she came home because
14:17she was worried about his dad yes
14:22this is foreign

14:35to clarify that that's all

14:54the main weren't supposed to be coming
14:58I should have found out
15:01she was worried about me
15:03and
15:05me worrying about my dad except she came
15:08home
15:13which whoever she's going to stand up it

15:16we were having work done down there
15:19and that wasn't a hundred percent but
15:22it's pretty well she was going to stay
15:24ahead edit stuff
15:27it's not kind of surprised her that she
15:29came back
15:30and I did totally surprised me she'd let
15:32me know earlier that she was coming home
15:35but then I found out later why she came
15:37with him
15:39he was concerned for you

15:47what time did y'all sit down and eat

15:50not too long after that
15:52blanket made dinner

15:58so three of us ate dinner together
16:03I love this conversation around the
16:04dinner table it's normal

16:13how was Maggie's appointment in
16:14Charleston that day
16:19and I think it had gone good we didn't
16:21really
16:22I mean we didn't really get the chance
16:24to talk about it in detail she's been
16:27having
16:29a couple of little medical issues I
16:32can't even remember which one it wasn't
16:33anything huge I can't remember exactly
16:35which one she went for

16:43and after dinner
16:48went to the kennels or you know I don't
16:51know exactly how that went
16:53um
16:57I stayed on the couch and
17:01I dozed off
17:09and then I got up
17:13did you watch TV that night
17:17I know the TV was I believe the TV was
17:20on
17:24tonight and I wasn't
17:26watching it you know I mean
17:31stop right there and I'm not going to
17:33repeat that but this next question
17:36um regarding a tree video had you
17:38confronted him with that before
17:41no sir I had not okay please go ahead
17:47there is a video on Paul's phone
17:50of Union Hills California tonight
17:54and he was in khaki pants and a dress
17:56shirt
17:58if the plant was a treat
18:03I don't remember playing with a treat
18:05though I guess there was a tree sapling
18:06or something that was
18:08had fallen over or bending over and you
18:10were trying to get it to stand back
18:12stand up but I mean the question in that
18:16is when I met you that Mike you were in
18:19shorts and a t-shirt at what point and
18:21that evening did you change clothes
18:27I'm not sure
18:29you know it would have been
18:32before dinner or after dinner that would
18:34have been
18:36what time of day was that I would have
18:38thought out already changed there's not
18:41a Time
18:43is he asking you now what time that

18:52about dusk
18:54so that would have been 7 30 8 o'clock

19:14nap
19:15and doing a check on your mother
19:18and he tried to call Maggie and he tried
19:20to call Paul
19:22and then you
19:24send them 10 percent magma attacks that
19:26you were going to check on the month
19:29you also told me that
19:31Maggie didn't normally go if you could
19:33check on your mother but that she might
19:35not might run that night
19:38did you go by and check on it nobody
19:41check on my mom before you left to go no

19:47was her not responding to you
19:50know and thinking that she might ride
19:51with you but I didn't
19:54I don't
19:56I don't uh remember having plans but
19:59Maggie was

20:03but maybe she had told me that she was

20:16and it wasn't she didn't normally go

20:27she was gonna ride with me

23:05your dad name
23:07she had been having a particularly you
23:10know she's got Alzheimer's really bad or
23:14pretty bad and she had been
23:17particularly agitated
23:19um
23:24you know him not being there and
23:32checked on her more
23:35in the
23:39days and
23:41weeks
23:44um my Dad's passing them
23:47you know otherwise but
23:50several times a week
23:53you know any any time
23:59how long would you say you rationalize
24:0345 minutes an hour
24:09had you talked to Shelley Smith at this
24:11point
24:15she had been interviewed yes I had not
24:17spoken with her by that time
24:20yes sir please go
24:25back home
24:28to make me stop somewhere
24:32but the way there all the way to your
24:35mom's work and return trip back home
24:38stops
24:42no I didn't go anywhere I went straight

24:51I mean earlier in the day when you were
24:53down at the shed and kennels with

24:59did y'all discuss any injuries to any
25:01dogs
25:05Brother Gibson told me
25:08about uh
25:12the dogs tail
25:14and somebody's saying his leg was broken

26:40he didn't indicate that he had a
26:42conversation with ball he said he had a
26:43conversation with Rogan
26:45Gibson then he'd heard that from Rogan

29:27dinner until the return trip from
29:29visiting your mother

32:49and she asked if you did you see anyone

32:55she asked about guns near them and you

32:59and then you kind of stutter and start
33:00moving around and you sit here
33:10I don't have any memory of saying that I
33:12guess I have to listen to it to uh you
33:16know but I don't recall a dog being out
33:19I'm certain that
33:22there was not a dog out
33:26um
33:31you know I mean there's other things
33:33people have told me about that 9-1-1
33:35call that I don't remember
33:38um
33:42I I don't know here like I was calling a
33:46dog
33:47call my dog talking to somebody else I
33:49don't know that's why I'm asking and
33:52obviously it was nobody else out there
33:54and
34:00I'm
34:01things on the internet that

34:15believe yourself
34:29and we also talk about us to talk about
34:31that this month that night he returned
34:34back to the house to get a shotgun
34:38so what door did you enter

36:44looking at the shotgun that we took for
36:47potential comparison
36:49it was also loaded with the first shot
36:51and a buckshot so I have all of these
36:54consistent lubes

36:58in the feed room I call it the feed room
37:00and the candles is that what you call it
37:01that's something
37:03good enough okay I just wonder if I say

37:07I'm talking about tonight I grab the
37:10shells that I could get my hands on I

37:37missing from your collection

37:51there's
37:52three guns
37:55that I think are missing okay
37:58what kind of guns are this it would be a
38:00finale
38:01shotgun a Browning shotgun and a poke
38:06shotgun
38:09the vanilliant Browning the Contour
38:12autos
38:14the finale in the Browning are automatic
38:18and pump shotgun but friends I believe
38:21it's a remix but I'm not positive
38:23well they'll probably like standard
38:25brown black all black or camel
38:29um
38:33is black the Browning is camo and the
38:40pope is Caleb
38:44would you have those serial numbers
38:46record anywhere
38:48I don't have them recorded but I'm sure
38:52um I don't know where to talk
38:56shotgun exactly came from but
38:59I should be able to have the finale

39:09um because we don't know if they're
39:11stolen or where they are

39:27at least back to the gun in person that
39:30may have had it absolutely so if we can
39:33work on that to get those as soon as

39:39black balance camo and the pump is

40:18long time ago that I'm telling you now I
40:21am certain that we've replaced that gun
40:24all right actually John knows that he
40:28sold Maggie a third gun okay okay
40:33and the story was that she was supposed
40:36to let you know that she paid for it for
40:37you to go sign the paperwork
40:39um and that never occurred okay so
40:42that's why it wasn't her number okay
40:44well he has he has the number
40:47he just doesn't have a final sale on the
40:49ATF paperwork
40:51that was replacing the one that uh Paul
40:55lost yes that's correct and both both of
40:58those
40:59um 300s the serial numbers are with the
41:01Atia and flagton system
41:05so when they pop up
41:07I'm going to get me to those okay
41:10and and that's you know we talked about
41:13the shot sales so the cartridge casings
41:16were 300 Blackout qualifications that
41:18were found by Mac
41:21there were also cartridge casings found
41:23by your house
41:25on the side door to the Gun Room
41:28and at the shop shooting range

42:28and 300 Blackout that match like one
42:32thousand year program so you now believe

42:46and I understand somebody had seen that
42:48gun recently but you know and I'd ask
42:51Buster about it

42:54I I believe that that gun has been gone
42:58since back before Christmas

43:02Nolan too no one recalls
43:07Paul's first 300 going missing
43:11around Halloween
43:14at a party at Hampton Halloween of 2020
43:18when did y'all know that because that no
43:21no what years yeah it was
43:24whatever Christmas he got it so it was
43:2617 Christmas is 17.
43:29so it was the the Halloween after in 18
43:32is when Nolan believes it was taken out
43:35of Paul's truck
43:36it was um I don't it would take me a
43:40while to sign these notes but uh
43:41Mark Williams or Matt Williams
43:45he's a family friend
43:48I may have anything wrong but there was
43:50hundreds of people at this Halloween
43:51party no one says the adults were there
43:54kids were there
43:56um and he knows no one knows that the
43:59gun was impulse truck
44:01when they got to the party and when they
44:03went to leave the party it was dark
44:08so the that's the time when I don't know
44:11when that goes missing

1:29:17I mean we're we're all in the talks

1:29:29I'm I know nothing about the
1:29:31um any of that stuff

1:29:37he's he's represented by lawyers in that
1:29:39case
1:29:40I don't think he I I personally believe
1:29:43he shouldn't be talking about that
1:29:45unless the lawyers he's represented by
1:29:47our participate
1:29:49I don't think it's I mean I'm sure that
1:29:51they're happy to do that
1:29:53but
1:29:55I don't think that um I don't think the
1:29:58the person should be talking about
1:30:00pending action like that without their
1:30:02lawyers knowing about it
1:30:03and what
1:30:05um
1:30:07because I just don't I know nothing
1:30:08about it I was completely separated from
1:30:10it I don't mind
1:30:14you know I have uh insurance companies
1:30:18hired lawyers
1:30:20um and
1:30:22and and then you know some of our
1:30:25partners are
1:30:27helping with that also but
1:30:31um you know it's
1:30:38some progress it's uh you know it's
1:30:42still
1:30:43unresolved but it's not in its initial
1:30:46stages by any means
1:30:50and what I'm
1:30:54what I'm getting at with this
1:30:56you know it's in progress I just want to
1:30:58make sure that it's
1:31:00not make sure that that's where they're
1:31:03um
1:31:05you know did one party
1:31:07say this and y'all countered or
1:31:09something like that that where
1:31:11the other people are pissed off and
1:31:14now we have somebody out there with more
1:31:16motive because now they're thinking
1:31:19you know Paul's going to get away with
1:31:20this and
1:31:23I mean I'm not aware of any of those
1:31:26discussions the only thing that I am
1:31:28aware of is that I I've learned that
1:31:34um
1:31:35one of the daddies
1:31:37of
1:31:39one of the kids in the boat wreck
1:31:45went to Lynx to
1:31:49or maybe it was a son I don't know but I
1:31:51was told that that there are people out
1:31:54there that were being told you can't be
1:31:56friends with Paul and murders
1:32:00and with us you gotta choose
1:32:03and that was a dad going out telling him
1:32:06I don't know
1:32:07it was that bad of that kid
1:32:10going out saying this stuff I don't know
1:32:12that I I was told by a person who had
1:32:15been told that that guy it's Nate Nate
1:32:18tooting his boy's name so
1:32:21is that we'll find out
1:32:23an old younger brother
1:32:26so

1:36:11this incident

1:36:17or them saying anything in the community
1:36:19about the lawsuit or the pending charges
1:36:22anything that would kind of lead me
1:36:27I mean David I told you about the um
1:36:31you know the
1:36:33all right
1:36:36um Kenya treehorn
1:36:38um
1:36:43a month or so
1:36:45maybe six weeks before this happened
1:36:49called me you know just
1:36:51all out of sorts it told me I told you
1:36:55about this
1:36:57so I mean
1:37:00he said
1:37:01she'd heard it from two different places
1:37:04that family from the boat wreck
1:37:07it was you know it was it just you know
1:37:11it was
1:37:12over the top that I really didn't
1:37:17paid a bunch of attention
1:37:26you know
1:37:28um
1:37:29and I asked her about it she said she
1:37:31didn't know who the people were but
1:37:35um she said she it was with a friend at
1:37:39a friend's party
1:37:42she knew who the friend was and would
1:37:46take y'all to the friend
1:37:52to you know
1:37:55has she helped you about that
1:37:58she's giving us very little
1:38:00do you feel like she's being uh evasive
1:38:05let me tell you what I tried not to do I
1:38:07know y'all have to look at me I tried to
1:38:09have as little just discussions with the
1:38:13people that y'all interviewing
1:38:16you know with all this talk about how I
1:38:18fixed this and fix that with the boat
1:38:20rack which is totally untrue you know
1:38:23I've tried to not have a lot of
1:38:25conversation
1:38:27with people that you know I know y'all
1:38:30need to talk to
1:38:32well the the problem that I encounter
1:38:35and I think everybody in law enforcement
1:38:36Encounters in any investigation
1:38:39people on the street talk and they run
1:38:42their mouth and they'll talk to friends
1:38:44and they'll talk to families and they'll
1:38:45talk to victims but when the police show
1:38:48up
1:38:48you keep your mouth shut so she's not
1:38:51talking she has given us some
1:38:53information
1:38:54okay some information so is there a
1:38:56problem with me going to her and
1:38:59you know
1:39:01I'm not going to answer that
1:39:07so you're not telling me not to do it
1:39:08I'm not going to answer that okay either
1:39:11way
1:39:14I'll get somebody to talk to her
1:39:17all right we try to get to cooperate

1:42:43was the case transferred from a
1:42:45solicitor Duffy Stone to attorney
1:42:46general Alan Wilson with the South
1:42:48Carolina attorney general's office yes
1:42:49it was
1:42:53whoa
1:42:58I just want to go back right before we
1:43:01ended up them
1:43:02not trying to get you to elicit repeat
1:43:05this but do you remember when you asked
1:43:07or do you remember when he told you
1:43:09I know y'all got to look at me
1:43:12and I've tried to have as little
1:43:13discussions with people that y'all are
1:43:15interviewing you know
1:43:16with all this talk about that you
1:43:18remember that yes I do
