- 0:13advanced f2l is this term that gets
- 0:15thrown around but i don't feel like a
- 0:16lot of people really know what this
- 0:18means there have been a lot of videos
- 0:19about advanced f2l and while i think
- 0:21these videos are all good they go over a
- 0:23lot of tricks for advanced f2l but they
- 0:25don't talk about exactly what advanced
- 0:27f2l means unfortunately i'm guilty of
- 0:29this too but today i'm going to be
- 0:30talking about exactly what advanced f2l
- 0:32means so this one i'll talk about very
- 0:34briefly but the first difference between
- 0:35advanced f2l and beginner f2l is cube
- 0:38rotations with beginner f2l once you
- 0:40find your pieces and then you would pair
- 0:42them up by using the slot here that they
- 0:44go into so that you don't break up any
- 0:46other slots you might have solved then
- 0:48once you
- 0:49pair them up like this you would insert
- 0:50it into the front like that with
- 0:52advanced f2l there are two differences
- 0:54here one is that you can use any
- 0:56unsolved slot in order to pair them up
- 0:57so i don't need to set them up like this
- 0:59i could set them up like this and
- 1:02do that which breaks up this lot so this
- 1:05only works if this slot was unsolved so
- 1:07by keeping track of which slots you've
- 1:08already solved you can avoid breaking up
- 1:10any ones that you've already done
- 1:12the next thing is once i pair these up
- 1:15i can insert it into the back without
- 1:16having to rotate like this so i don't
- 1:18always need the slot at the front if it
- 1:20requires a cube rotation i might as well
- 1:22not q rotate and instead just insert it
- 1:25into the back so these are some basic
- 1:27differences but they're super important
- 1:28if you want to reduce cube rotations and
- 1:31reduce the amount of unnecessary moves
- 1:32you do the next key difference between
- 1:34beginner f2l and advanced f2l is the
- 1:37process you use to pair up pieces with
- 1:39beginner f2l there's an extra step in
- 1:41the beginning so if you have a corner up
- 1:43here and an edge in here or vice versa
- 1:45if anything is in a slot then you have
- 1:47to take it out first so i would take it
- 1:49out like this
- 1:50and then i would just continue and solve
- 1:52this pair so then i'd follow this up by
- 1:54pairing them up like this and then as a
- 1:56third step i would then insert it so for
- 1:58beginner f2l in the worst case which is
- 2:00pretty common you'll have to do three
- 2:02steps top layer pair them up and then
- 2:05insert with advanced f12 you always keep
- 2:07the step where you insert it because you
- 2:08have to do that but you can join all the
- 2:11previous steps together so how it would
- 2:13work for this case specifically there
- 2:14are often multiple ways to do it but one
- 2:16way you could do this case specifically
- 2:18is by putting the corner over here
- 2:19before you take out the edge and if you
- 2:22do that then that causes them to already
- 2:24be paired together by the time the edge
- 2:26comes out so you have to know which ways
- 2:28you can take it out so that they pair up
- 2:29together now before i go into the
- 2:31details of how you should be doing that
- 2:33it's not totally memorization there is
- 2:34some logic to it but before i go into
- 2:36that i'm going to talk about the other
- 2:38difference the last difference between
- 2:39beginner and advanced f2l so with
- 2:41beginner f2l even if the pieces are both
- 2:43on top if they're touching each other
- 2:45like this then often you have to split
- 2:47them up first so that is an extra step
- 2:49splitting them up before you go into
- 2:51however you normally pair them followed
- 2:53by inserting
- 2:55so with advanced f2l again you do one
- 2:57thing instead of both of those steps so
- 2:59i'll briefly go over all the cases where
- 3:01they're touching and what to do because
- 3:02there aren't that many of them and then
- 3:03i'll get back to the other point i was
- 3:05talking about so for this case you move
- 3:07the corner over the edge and just do u
- 3:09prime and then that sets them up for
- 3:11this one what you do is you move the
- 3:13corner up and then you do u2 and then
- 3:16come back down and that results with
- 3:17them already being paired together then
- 3:19you just insert
- 3:20for this case it is a really bad case
- 3:22and it's a bit long but what you do is
- 3:23put it over here insert the corner into
- 3:25the slot like this move the edge over
- 3:27and then take the corner back out and
- 3:29then that makes them pair together
- 3:32and lastly for this case what you do is
- 3:34instead of hiding the corner this way
- 3:36like that because that hides the edge
- 3:37you just hide the corner this way
- 3:38instead and then move the edge away
- 3:41and then that pairs them up
- 3:44now going back to the previous point of
- 3:45when you take pieces out of a slot how
- 3:47do you make sure that it comes out
- 3:48paired with the other piece already so
- 3:50there are a lot of cases to go through
- 3:52here and i do have an advanced f2l pdf
- 3:54which you can find in the description of
- 3:56that video but the problem is if you
- 3:57don't know why the cases work that way
- 3:59and you don't have some sort of internal
- 4:00logic for it then it just looks like a
- 4:02list of algorithms and that's ridiculous
- 4:04to learn so i'm going to go over the
- 4:05logic of the cases here so starting off
- 4:07if white is on top and you find the edge
- 4:09here if you put the white sticker on top
- 4:11and they match like this then this one's
- 4:13a little bit obvious you can just take
- 4:15it out because they're already kind of
- 4:16paired up then you just insert it
- 4:19now if you put the piece on top and it
- 4:21does not match now keep in mind it
- 4:22doesn't really matter where the edges it
- 4:24could be anywhere but if it does not
- 4:25match then there are two ways you can
- 4:27pair it up and you can kind of think
- 4:29about which one's easier to use
- 4:30depending on the situation you're in so
- 4:32first move the edge away from it so that
- 4:34they're both still on the front and then
- 4:35you can do one of two options just
- 4:37depending on which one ends up working
- 4:38out better one way is to insert the
- 4:40corner here like that move the edge back
- 4:43over here to the side and then do that
- 4:44again
- 4:46and then that pairs them up the other
- 4:48option you have is doing what's called a
- 4:49sledgehammer and if you don't know what
- 4:51that is it's a short trigger that goes
- 4:52like this r prime f
- 4:54r f prime so make sure in either case
- 4:57you use the hand that's holding the edge
- 4:58here so i did everything right handed
- 5:00but if i was facing this way so they
- 5:02don't pair up and then i move the corner
- 5:03this way then the edges on the left side
- 5:05this time so i would do either of them
- 5:07left-handed so either like this
- 5:10to pair it up
- 5:12or like this
- 5:15now instead of the white corner stickers
- 5:16on the side then again put it on top
- 5:19here to see what the relationship is and
- 5:20you'll either find that some stickers
- 5:22match or no stickers will match so
- 5:24starting with the case where the
- 5:25stickers do match what you want to do is
- 5:27like if you were facing this you turn
- 5:29the sticker so you can still see it so
- 5:31like not that way because it's gone but
- 5:33like this way instead and then push the
- 5:35edge behind the corner like this
- 5:38and then that gets them to pair together
- 5:40now if you had to push it the other way
- 5:42instead there is a way to pair them up
- 5:43as well and that is by pushing the edge
- 5:46behind the corner as well except go a
- 5:48little further
- 5:50like that and then that also pairs them
- 5:52up to insert
- 5:53and lastly the case where if you put the
- 5:55corner on top of the edge and the colors
- 5:57here don't match then this is the last
- 5:59case and there are again a few ways you
- 6:02can do this one way is by putting the
- 6:04corner over here behind it just like
- 6:06same as before except you move the
- 6:07corner the other way instead so onto
- 6:09this spot
- 6:10and then that pairs them up
- 6:13and again if they don't match there's
- 6:14one more way you can do it and that's
- 6:16just by moving the corner instead of
- 6:17just here you move it all the way over
- 6:19there this also works and then do the
- 6:21same thing just move the edge over here
- 6:24and that pairs them together now what if
- 6:25you have a corner in a slot and the edge
- 6:27is on top so what we're going to do is
- 6:28compare the front color of the corner
- 6:30here with the top color of the edge now
- 6:32if they match then what you do is you
- 6:34want to face the white sticker and then
- 6:35put the edge on the side so like on the
- 6:37side that the corners on then take out
- 6:39the corner while pushing it towards the
- 6:41edge so take it out push it towards the
- 6:43edge and come back down now if instead
- 6:45the color on the corner does not match
- 6:46the top here then you want to do it the
- 6:48other way so instead of putting it over
- 6:49here where you face white you put it
- 6:51over here where you don't face white and
- 6:53then this time you take out the corner
- 6:55the other way so you move it up then
- 6:56instead of moving towards the edge you
- 6:58move away from the edge
- 7:00and then now they're paired together
- 7:02lastly if white faces the bottom here
- 7:04then just find the side color of the
- 7:06edge instead and match it to
- 7:08the side color here so these two match
- 7:11then what you do is move the edge away
- 7:12from the corner and then bring the
- 7:13corner up like this
- 7:16and then now if they didn't match then
- 7:17you would put it on the other side so
- 7:18that they do match and then do the same
- 7:20thing so move the edge away and then
- 7:22move the corner up like this
- 7:24one thing that i didn't talk about in
- 7:26this video is finger tricks because that
- 7:27doesn't really apply to what moves
- 7:29you're doing is just kind of how you do
- 7:30the moves and also i didn't want to load
- 7:32this video up with too many things but
- 7:33if you want to learn about advanced
- 7:35finger tricks to make sure that you're
- 7:36not taking up too much time turning then
- 7:38you can watch this video that i'll link
- 7:39up here so just a quick recap of what we
- 7:41talked about when you find both pieces
- 7:42and you have to pair them up you can use
- 7:44any unsolved slot in order to pair them
- 7:47up like that
- 7:48and then you can insert them into front
- 7:50or back depending on which one's more
- 7:51convenient so instead of rotating you
- 7:53can just insert this into the back like
- 7:55that
- 7:56next if the pieces are both on top and
- 7:58touching in a way that you can't use
- 7:59like your regular beginner f2l then you
- 8:01should memorize exactly how to pair
- 8:02those up really quickly there aren't
- 8:04that many cases so memorization should
- 8:05be fine and lastly if you have a piece
- 8:07on top and a piece in a slot then make
- 8:09sure that you can compare them in some
- 8:11way that you know instantly how to pair
- 8:13them up as you take it out let me know
- 8:15if you have any questions thanks for
- 8:16watching as always and i'll see you guys
- 8:18next time
- 8:34you
