adrians stroke — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:03Well, hi. This is Elaine Glover and I'm
- 0:06the wife of Bishop Adrien of the Old
- 0:09Catholic Apostolic Church and I'm the
- 0:11bishop of the crossdenominational
- 0:13mission because
- 0:15I've helped many people on mission in
- 0:19difficult situations. Well, anyway,
- 0:22a week ago was Tuesday evening.
- 0:26Adrian had got to bed and then he got up
- 0:29to the toilet and I heard crush bang
- 0:32wallet bang bang bang bang bang
- 0:35and um
- 0:38I found that he was stuck between the
- 0:39bath and the toilet. I tried to get him
- 0:42up and I didn't really know what's wrong
- 0:44with him but I realized then that he'd
- 0:46actually had a stroke and I was going
- 0:49hysterical because I didn't know what to
- 0:51do and he kept point point. I didn't
- 0:54know what he was talking about. So
- 0:55anyway, run the 999 and they came
- 0:58pretty, you know, pretty quickly
- 1:02and um
- 1:04they tried to get him out the toilet,
- 1:07but they couldn't.
- 1:12So anyway, what happened then was
- 1:17the ambulance came. They put him in a
- 1:21funny fold up thing and put them on the
- 1:23stretcher and I asked if I could go and
- 1:25they said yes. So I went off with them
- 1:28and uh then they stopped at Turley Mall
- 1:30which is a bit of a not a very nice
- 1:33place. Let's put it like that. He used
- 1:35to be a drug addict's home with petrol
- 1:38bombs and things, but they the
- 1:40helicopter came and dropped off some
- 1:42more paramedics. So he went to
- 1:44Bournemouth Hospital, had a CC CT scan
- 1:49or whatever you call it, and they saw
- 1:51that he'd not only had one stroke, but
- 1:53they he'd had an old one six months ago,
- 1:57which actually I knew because he tried
- 1:59to get in my driver's seat when I was in
- 2:01the middle of a a busy road about to
- 2:04drive off waiting for Adrian, but sadly
- 2:06he's tried to sit on top of me, which is
- 2:09very out very out of his character.
- 2:13Adrien's very articulate. He's very
- 2:15clever man. I mean, he really is. He's
- 2:17very workaholic.
- 2:20And uh poor old Adrian. So anyway, off
- 2:23we went. And um
- 2:27uh you know, I heard that he got two
- 2:29strokes and he got a blood clot on the
- 2:31brain. So we had to go to Southampton.
- 2:37Anyway, I wanted to go there because I
- 2:39don't know how I was going to get home
- 2:41and I can't I didn't think I could drive
- 2:43that far.
- 2:45So, off we went and I said to the man
- 2:48who was a very chief con chief
- 2:50consultant of brain injury
- 2:54and um I said to him, "Are you a
- 2:56Christian?" And he said, "Why do you
- 2:57want to know that as if I was going to
- 2:58say you're Muslim?" I said, "Because I
- 3:01want to pray with you. They want to pray
- 3:02that God will use your hands to um heal
- 3:07Adrian and that there's no problem on
- 3:09the way, that he won't need a ventilator
- 3:12and that God will help you. And he was
- 3:14bit shocked. So anyway, I sat at the
- 3:17front and the driver was absolutely
- 3:19fantastic. He was very quick, knew what
- 3:21he was doing. There was no need for any
- 3:24ventilators, no need for anything. And
- 3:26when I got there, he gave me the biggest
- 3:28hug. And I was really chuffed because
- 3:31God is the God of the miraculous, isn't
- 3:34he? So anyway, he had the uh brain clock
- 3:37taken out, the whole clock. Thank God.
- 3:39I've been praying about this.
- 3:42Um and he eat a tomato cuz I'm really
- 3:45hungry. So anyway,
- 3:52they said he got three clocks in because
- 3:55he got the old one and then on the other
- 3:57side he got a middle one and a second
- 3:59one.
- 4:01But I believe that God is a healer. And
- 4:03I told him that my God is a healer and a
- 4:06restorer. Heal me from cereable malaria.
- 4:09I'm still alive. I should be dead
- 4:10actually, but I have got brain injury.
- 4:12And people don't recognize
- 4:15that I've got brain injury and I
- 4:17struggle with stress.
- 4:20So, um,
- 4:22he rang me up one night and he said
- 4:24about if the if he has a swollen brain,
- 4:27they're not going to cut the skull open
- 4:29and give him room
- 4:32for the um, swelling to go down because
- 4:35they said he's going to be a cabbage and
- 4:37disabled.
- 4:39And I was livid because I mean I live
- 4:41with him. He was in my my late husband
- 4:44Nigel
- 4:46was in a wheelchair.
- 4:49Adrian, not Adrian, Nigel had muscular
- 4:52destroy. He could walk. He had to have a
- 4:55knee to eat for his arm to move up and
- 4:57go across so that he can eat. But he did
- 5:00amazing things. He went into Glen Park
- 5:03youth offenders and ministered to young
- 5:06people with a criminal record.
- 5:09He went street preaching. We had street
- 5:11parties
- 5:13with um wonderful testimonies of, you
- 5:17know, being in prison, drug addiction,
- 5:19and all the things, you know,
- 5:24I was not happy with him at all. I
- 5:26called him an antichrist.
- 5:29So anyway, um I said, "Lord, can you
- 5:32open his eyes the following day?" And
- 5:34his eyes opened.
- 5:38And um it was wonderful really cuz he
- 5:41was writing him off already. He'd only
- 5:43had a stroke for a couple of days, but I
- 5:45know that people are healed from
- 5:47illnesses and people become better after
- 5:50strokes.
- 5:53So people were praying for him all over
- 5:55the place, all around the world from his
- 5:58church OCAC.
- 6:00One lady came to see him and we had
- 6:02communion and it was getting really
- 6:05better. Then his daughter Emily came.
- 6:06He'd not seen her for a long time cuz he
- 6:09got divorced from Karen, his ex-wife.
- 6:11But I mean, has nothing to do with me.
- 6:12It's not my fault.
- 6:16And um
- 6:21so
- 6:24he was so pleased, but I could see he
- 6:27was working it out because I could be a
- 6:28bit jealous when I want to be, but I
- 6:31wasn't jealous of her at all. I was so
- 6:33glad she came because I knew that her
- 6:36presence would really pick him up.
- 6:41And then the next thing I knew, Adrian
- 6:43went to Bournemouth without nobody told
- 6:45me, without ringing me up or telling me.
- 6:47And I ended up going to Southampton.
- 6:50Complete waste of journey and a complete
- 6:52waste of a hotel for two nights so that
- 6:54I could have a rest. And I had to drive
- 6:57back to Bournemouth.
- 6:59But the thing is
- 7:02God gave me strength. God gave me
- 7:04strength because sometimes I fell asleep
- 7:06at the wheel because I have got brain
- 7:08injury.
- 7:10Um
- 7:11but I know that God gave me a scripture
- 7:14about him saying I will live. I will not
- 7:17die. I want to testify for the Lord
- 7:20and about delivering him. I know that he
- 7:23will get better.
- 7:26But anyway, being in Bournemouth
- 7:27Hospital is a different matter because
- 7:31the nurses are quite bossy. They they
- 7:34treat him a bit like a baby and Adrian's
- 7:37not a baby. He fed himself when I gave
- 7:40him his yogurt and I got told off, but I
- 7:43could see that actually he was doing it
- 7:45himself.
- 7:48But yesterday had a bit of a setback
- 7:50because he was fighting with his glove.
- 7:52He was trying to get out of the bed and
- 7:54he takes the nose thing out which can be
- 7:56very painful for him.
- 7:58Well, he hates his boxing glove
- 8:02and uh he kept doing this to me for two
- 8:05hours. He was driving me bonkers.
- 8:08But I've been praying today and the Lord
- 8:10helped him to calm down. wasn't kept
- 8:13poking the glove at me
- 8:17because I think in a couple of days that
- 8:19he will
- 8:23have the nose tube out and have his hand
- 8:25thing took off but you know he's getting
- 8:28better I think and he's getting
- 8:30frustrated
- 8:31but we need to pray that one his brain
- 8:33doesn't swell up two
- 8:37that he can have the nose thing out and
- 8:39that silly thing on his hand took off
- 8:42and that um he would begin to speak.
- 8:45Now, my friend Liz prayed that he would
- 8:48speak and then all of a sudden he went
- 8:53like this and I didn't know what he was
- 8:55talking about. But he had a speech. He
- 8:57had a language.
- 9:00So, I'm praying that he'll learn to
- 9:02speak properly. Then I can understand
- 9:03what he's saying. But it's a big thing
- 9:06for me. I'm shattered.
- 9:11and thank my friends for giving me two
- 9:13nights and the other friend for a hotel
- 9:16because without that I don't know what
- 9:17I'd do and it was a nice hotel. It
- 9:19wasn't a crappy one
- 9:22and I needed really time to rest for me
- 9:25because being at home you want to do
- 9:26housework, clean it up and trying to get
- 9:29the house so it's relatively clean and I
- 9:31don't need to bother with it.
- 9:35But it really is a nightmare, honestly.
- 9:37And I'm left in a position where
- 9:41he's got six months pay, full pay, but I
- 9:45can't get into it. I've got to get a
- 9:46power of attorney, and that'll take a
- 9:49few months.
- 9:51Um, I've managed to found, praise the
- 9:53Lord, his um, national insurance number
- 9:56so I can claim PIP. But it's just
- 9:59terrible because I'm left in a terrible
- 10:01position.
- 10:03And at the hospital, I can't do right
- 10:05for doing wrong. And it really is very
- 10:07difficult completely. But I just keep
- 10:09trusting in God and then have a bath
- 10:11when I come home and go to bed, tidy up,
- 10:13and then get up in the morning and start
- 10:15again.
- 10:18I should be doing my plants, but the
- 10:21problem is in my plants.
- 10:24Um, there's so much to do and I I'm so
- 10:27tired. And I've just been having to sort
- 10:30out Adrian's stuff because I needed to I
- 10:34found it actually. Praise the Lord. And
- 10:36I found the sheets which I had that I
- 10:38knew that we had filled in and signed
- 10:40for the um
- 10:44what you call it
- 10:48the
- 10:50or I can get money out of Adrian's bank
- 10:52and pay bills because he pays all the
- 10:55bills. I don't know how much he's got. I
- 10:57don't know anything and it's just awful.
- 11:02I would appreciate it if his son Ben
- 11:05went because that'd be a big pickup for
- 11:07him
- 11:09and it would be a help for me.
- 11:13I got a bit cross with his daughter, the
- 11:15other one, because I think well they
- 11:18told me that they' told her that he was
- 11:20going to Bournemouth and nobody told me
- 11:22and I just say I spent some money on a
- 11:25hotel and I don't know whether I've lost
- 11:26the money
- 11:28because he wasn't at that anyway. So
- 11:32yes, it's very difficult. Then you start
- 11:34thinking about they said he might have
- 11:37to be in hospital for a long time.
- 11:41Then they said that um he might be badly
- 11:44disabled. So then they've got to get the
- 11:47house adapted and people say you don't
- 11:49need to worry about it now.
- 11:53Really? Of course you do. You got to
- 11:55plan. Got to plan for it.
- 11:59But I can't keep up with this. I'm going
- 12:00to have to have some time for myself and
- 12:02I can't afford it. I'd have liked to
- 12:04gone to the hotel off the
- 12:10off from the hospital for Saturday and
- 12:12Sunday so I could just walk across the
- 12:14road and I can have time for me in a
- 12:16breakfast and rest.
- 12:19But I can't afford £300 and something
- 12:22pounds. I have got money from my mom,
- 12:24but I can't spend that because that's
- 12:26for me to live till I die. And you know,
- 12:30I need money. I need to be able to I
- 12:32don't want to spend all Adrian's money.
- 12:33I just want to pay the bills.
- 12:36So, it's not easy. And I'm really
- 12:37stressed about all that's going on. And,
- 12:40you know, I don't like to see him upset
- 12:43about this looks like a boxing glove
- 12:46thing.
- 12:51And I feel alone.
- 12:53I know Andy, his brother's brilliant. I
- 12:56just feel alone. You know, you've been
- 12:58you've been you've slept next to
- 12:59somebody for nearly 10 years and then
- 13:03you have an empty bed and it's horrible
- 13:04waking up without Adrian.
- 13:07And I love him. You know, we have
- 13:09terrible RS cuz I'm a big gobby and he
- 13:12can be vicious,
- 13:15but I still love him.
- 13:20People say, "Well, you know, we'll do
- 13:22anything for you." But they don't even
- 13:24offer to go and see Adrian
- 13:26or give me a little bit of money here
- 13:28and there so that I can
- 13:31um one person I know very well from
- 13:33Northern Ireland, he's helped me. I
- 13:35haven't got the money out cuz I don't
- 13:36know how to do it.
- 13:39Oh, and you know, if only people that
- 13:43have got a little bit of money could
- 13:44help me a little bit, that'd be great.
- 13:46But they don't. They say they'll help
- 13:48me, but if you ask for money, then
- 13:51you know, but it I'm not wealthy. I
- 13:54haven't got any money. But the point is,
- 13:56I can't get Adrian's money out either.
- 13:58And I don't even know how to pay the
- 14:00bills cuz he pays for everything.
- 14:03And you know, I'm just finding it a real
- 14:06struggle. And Adrian, I said to Adrian,
- 14:08but he's not in the land of the living
- 14:10really, is he's a bit all over the
- 14:11place.
- 14:13Um, so yes, it's very difficult. and uh
- 14:17take over an in OCAC. I don't like that.
- 14:21You know, I shouldn't be having all of
- 14:23this. I shouldn't be having these
- 14:24conversations. I shouldn't be worried
- 14:26what they're doing. I shouldn't be any
- 14:28of that. But no, it's been an absolute
- 14:31nightmare.
- 14:32But I pray that Ben comes to see Adrian.
- 14:37and I pray that
- 14:41well
- 14:42they don't go
- 14:45and I feel very alone and I feel that
- 14:48everything's on top of me and I'm being
- 14:50swallowed up by all these problems.
- 14:53Anyway, I'm going to go now. God bless
- 14:55you. God keeping. I hope that's an
- 14:57update. Bye.
