  1. 0:00Will you please kill yourself?
  2. 0:01Adam Carolla says controversial things
  3. 0:04Please kill yourself!
  4. 0:05You’re infecting my life!
  5. 0:06[Applause]
  6. 0:09Lots of people like that.
  7. 0:10His podcasts, right from the start,
  8. 0:12were among America’s most popular.
  9. 0:15He's hosted TV shows that became hits,
  10. 0:17like Loveline and The Man Show
  11. 0:20that he did with Jimmy Kimmel.
  12. 0:22Girls jumping on trampolines.
  13. 0:25The Man Show was criticized for its sexism.
  14. 0:28Today, it’s Carolla’s opinions
  15. 0:30that make people mad.
  16. 0:31You said “If AOC were
  17. 0:34fat and in her sixties,
  18. 0:36no one would listen to her.”
  19. 0:37Well, that's true.
  20. 0:39That's 100% true.
  21. 0:41Who are you to judge political
  22. 0:43issues you don’t know
  23. 0:45anything.
  24. 0:46His comment about AOC
  25. 0:48drove leftists crazy.
  26. 0:50It's very predatory and creepy.
  27. 0:52He projects his sexism onto others.
  28. 0:55He thinks the only reason I would care
  29. 0:58is because she's hot.
  30. 0:59These talk show hosts saying,
  31. 1:00that's so sexist,
  32. 1:02but it's just true.
  33. 1:04Yes.
  34. 1:05If she was in her sixties and husky,
  35. 1:09nobody would listen to a word she ever said,
  36. 1:11because she sounds like an idiot.
  37. 1:13Most people don’t even know what socialism is.
  38. 1:16One thing he won’t say is
  39. 1:18“I’m sorry.”
  40. 1:19He makes that clear on the
  41. 1:20cover of his new book.
  42. 1:22No apologies.
  43. 1:23Why is that important?
  44. 1:25Apologizing just leads
  45. 1:27to more apologizing.
  46. 1:28When critics demand apologies, he says,
  47. 1:31they really want power.
  48. 1:33They want you to apologize
  49. 1:34because they want dominion over you.
  50. 1:36And once you apologize,
  51. 1:38they just keep coming back.
  52. 1:39And when they come after you,
  53. 1:41you say you don't care
  54. 1:44and you really don't care?
  55. 1:46No. I just happen to be
  56. 1:48wired not to care,
  57. 1:50as long as I'm right.
  58. 1:51He says he was right
  59. 1:52about COVID.
  60. 1:53He was skeptical about the government’s announcements.
  61. 1:56Turns out the people dying from Covid
  62. 1:58are old or sick or both.
  63. 2:01How many of you “bleeps” got played
  64. 2:03and who’s going to get played next time?”
  65. 2:06What exactly were you trying to say there?
  66. 2:08Exactly what I said.
  67. 2:10They didn't give the ages of the
  68. 2:11people who died at the very beginning.
  69. 2:14They never gave the ages.
  70. 2:15And I immediately got suspicious
  71. 2:17because it was a bunch of 90 year olds.
  72. 2:19And for saying this,
  73. 2:20you get trashed by people
  74. 2:22who've been your friends.
  75. 2:24He's making fun of people
  76. 2:25for taking COVID seriously.
  77. 2:26Adam doesn't believe in shampoo or soap.
  78. 2:29Yes, it's disturbing.
  79. 2:31Jimmy Kimmel and Howard Stern
  80. 2:32attack his views,
  81. 2:34but they are still his friends.
  82. 2:36Others have turned on him completely.
  83. 2:38Adam and I were quite close.
  84. 2:39Adam Carolla.
  85. 2:40Not anymore.
  86. 2:41What happened?
  87. 2:42Well, he's a right-wing troll now.
  88. 2:44Yeah. Well, David Allen Grier's nuts.
  89. 2:46I don't think people know that
  90. 2:48about David Allen Grier.
  91. 2:49Fortunately, most celebrities on the left
  92. 2:51are not as intolerant as Grier.
  93. 2:53Carolla does shows with Sarah Silverman.
  94. 2:56Bill Maher and he debate.
  95. 2:58Absolutely not.
  96. 2:59I’m with you.
  97. 3:00Well I’m not with you.
  98. 3:01But conversations like that
  99. 3:03are rare these days.
  100. 3:05It is a new thing in the media,
  101. 3:07not to talk to the other side.
  102. 3:09I could not disagree with you more!
  103. 3:11All my career, we had arguments
  104. 3:14and we'd learn from that.
  105. 3:15When you're going to a bar,
  106. 3:18you wanna sit next to a guy
  107. 3:20who's a Steelers fan,
  108. 3:21if you're a Steelers fan.
  109. 3:23That's why they have Steelers bars
  110. 3:26and Patriots bars.
  111. 3:27But occasionally,
  112. 3:28and it's part of your job.
  113. 3:30You have to invite somebody over from the
  114. 3:33Patriots bar.
  115. 3:34And you can have a
  116. 3:36robust debate on who's the better team.
  117. 3:39Free speech is protected.
  118. 3:40Hate speech is not protected!
  119. 3:42But now the “don’t even let them speak”
  120. 3:44movement tries to silence “robust debate.”
  121. 3:47There’s no free speech for fascists.
  122. 3:50I first encountered it years ago,
  123. 3:52working for 20/20.
  124. 3:53I was assigned a story at
  125. 3:55Brown University where a kid had been
  126. 3:57suspended for sexual misconduct.
  127. 4:00He’d had sex with a woman
  128. 4:01who was drunk
  129. 4:02and weeks later,
  130. 4:03she accused him of rape.
  131. 4:05The protesters offered me their microphone to
  132. 4:08ask a question, so I asked,
  133. 4:10what’s the new definition of rape?
  134. 4:12Get off this campus,
  135. 4:13we don’t want you here.
  136. 4:14Rape is not TV hype!
  137. 4:17They were screaming,
  138. 4:19rape is not TV hype.
  139. 4:21Rape is not TV hype!
  140. 4:23And I couldn't even ask people
  141. 4:25over the noise.
  142. 4:26Can I ask you why you’re screaming that?
  143. 4:28Come on everybody, louder!
  144. 4:30And it was this new culture
  145. 4:32that the other side should not be
  146. 4:33allowed to speak.
  147. 4:35I believe
  148. 4:37that they would let the other side speak
  149. 4:40if they thought they could
  150. 4:42beat them in a debate.
  151. 4:44Um, they don't.
  152. 4:45Carolla wants to debate,
  153. 4:47partly because he’s confident about his ideas.
  154. 4:51And I think if you're intellectually honest
  155. 4:53or I gave you two beers,
  156. 4:54you would agree with me.
  157. 4:56Agreeing isn’t the point.
  158. 4:57If his ideas are bad, they’ll go away.
  159. 5:00But it’s important
  160. 5:02that people are free to speak.
  161. 5:04Performers feel pressure.
  162. 5:06There’s a creepy
  163. 5:08PC thing out there
  164. 5:09that really bothers me.
  165. 5:10So let’s celebrate those
  166. 5:12who push right back.
  167. 5:14The only way these people are
  168. 5:15gonna go away is if everyone
  169. 5:16just sort of collectively and universally
  170. 5:19tells them to f*** off.
  171. 5:20[Woo!]
  172. 5:21I don't really have
  173. 5:23a choice as to what I say.
  174. 5:26It has to be the truth all, all the time.
  175. 5:29I'm a comedian.
  176. 5:31It's a sacred oath I took.
  177. 5:33It's what I do.
  178. 5:34Thank you.
  179. 5:35You guys have been wonderful.
  180. 5:37Thank you so much.
  181. 5:39[Applause]
  182. 5:40[Swoosh]
