- 1:35field tonight here, the young players
- 1:37who inspired us
- 1:42from ABC News World Headquarters in New
- 1:45York. This is World News Tonight with
- 1:49David Mure. Good evening tonight from
- 1:51ABC News election headquarters here in
- 1:53New York and it is great to have you
- 1:54with us here in a very busy Monday
- 1:56night. There is breaking news tonight
- 1:58involving President Trump and the
- 1:59midterm elections and these new polls on
- 2:01these very close Senate races where they
- 2:04stand on election eve. But we do begin
- 2:06tonight here with that horrific plane
- 2:07crash in South Florida. The video is
- 2:09disturbing. Tonight we're learning more
- 2:11about the chilling final moments. The
- 2:13video showing the Learjet in a
- 2:14high-speed nose dive, descending 32,000
- 2:17ft a minute, crashing onto a road,
- 2:19exploding into flames. Nine people were
- 2:22on board. They were all killed. The
- 2:23plane flying from Texas to the Bahamas
- 2:25when it reported heavy turbulence.
- 2:27You'll see the storm cells on the radar
- 2:29that that plane was flying through in
- 2:31just a moment. And tonight,
- 2:32investigators now believe a key part of
- 2:34that plane may have come off before it
- 2:36crashed. One of the pilots, 20 years
- 2:39old, she can be heard saying, "We're
- 2:40going to crash into the ground." ABC's
- 2:42Victor Aendo leading us off tonight on
- 2:44the scene in Florida.
- 2:46>> Tonight, chilling new details on the
- 2:49final seconds before that horrific jet
- 2:51crash in Florida
- 2:53that left nine people dead. Watch as
- 2:55that jet nose dives, plummeting 32,000
- 2:58ft per minute before smashing into the
- 3:01ground and exploding in a fireball.
- 3:03Tonight, federal investigators now say
- 3:05that plane may have broken apart midair
- 3:08before crashing. We do have some
- 3:10indication that the aircraft was
- 3:11breaking up before impact. We may find
- 3:15parts of the aircraft some distance away
- 3:17from the actual impact site.
- 3:18>> Officials say the Lear Jet 60 took off
- 3:21from Austin, Texas at 10:37 Sunday
- 3:23morning heading to the Bahamas. A family
- 3:26member telling ABC News 20-year-old
- 3:28Natalyia Gadellia Fidgas, seen here, was
- 3:31one of the two pilots at the controls.
- 3:33She reportedly obtained her pilot's
- 3:35license while in high school roughly 2
- 3:38hours after takeoff. That jet crossing
- 3:40over South Florida with severe storms
- 3:42lighting up the radar.
- 3:44>> The weather conditions are a major u
- 3:46focus of the investigation.
- 3:48>> At 12:47 p.m., one of the pilots telling
- 3:51air traffic control the plane is
- 3:53experiencing icy conditions and
- 3:55turbulence.
- 3:56>> We have light clear ice that is
- 3:59manageable and moderate turbulence. The
- 4:01pilots requesting to climb to 37,000 ft.
- 4:04But less than 30 seconds later, flight
- 4:07radar 24 data showing the plane
- 4:09appearing to fly into a strong storm
- 4:11cell before suddenly plummeting. The
- 4:14pilot declaring a mayday and was heard
- 4:16saying, "We are going to crash into the
- 4:18ground. Seconds later, the jet slamming
- 4:21into a residential street in Palm Beach
- 4:22County, leaving a massive crater. Debris
- 4:25flying as far as half a mile away,
- 4:27damaging homes and injuring at least one
- 4:29person on the ground.
- 4:31>> I honestly thought it was like a bomb or
- 4:32something.
- 4:33>> Tonight, experts pouring over video
- 4:35frame by frame. This image appearing to
- 4:37show part of the tail missing.
- 4:39>> That piece of the tail is what would
- 4:41have allowed the crew to pull out of the
- 4:43dive. Without it, there is no chance
- 4:45that they could recover.
- 4:46>> And tonight, we're learning more about
- 4:47the victims in a joint statement from
- 4:49their families. Adam Robinson and his
- 4:51wife Helen Sharp and their two young
- 4:53children, Charlie and Emma, ages two and
- 4:55four, were on board. Their family saying
- 4:58they touched so many lives.
- 5:00David, storms in the area tonight,
- 5:02slowing investigators as they work
- 5:04through the scene. In this image, you
- 5:06can see the jet in a steep dive,
- 5:08plunging 32,000 ft per minute.
- 5:11Authorities investigating the weather on
- 5:13Sunday and if the plane broke apart
- 5:15midair before crashing. The debris field
- 5:17spans half a mile, but parts of the
- 5:19plane could be even further from the
- 5:21crash site. David, just horrific images.
- 5:24Victoria Kendo, our thanks to you. We're
- 5:25thinking about that family and of course
- 5:27those pilots tonight. We move on with
- 5:29the other news tonight. The high stakes
- 5:30midterm elections tomorrow night. Of
- 5:32course, we'll be on the air tomorrow
- 5:33night here all night long. Tonight,
- 5:35President Trump choosing to deliver his
- 5:37closing message in front of one of his
- 5:39renovation projects, the reflecting
- 5:40pool. The midterms will determine
- 5:42control of Congress. And tonight, the
- 5:44new poll right here on these
- 5:46allimportant Senate races and what it
- 5:48reveals. Here's Mary Bruce.
- 5:50>> Tonight, on the eve of the midterm
- 5:52elections, President Trump choosing to
- 5:54deliver his closing message in front of
- 5:56one of his projects, the reflecting
- 5:58pool.
- 5:59>> Today, I'm thrilled to announce the
- 6:01official opening of the Lincoln Memorial
- 6:05reflecting pool. Now we're giving
- 6:07serious thought to changing the name to
- 6:11the Trump
- 6:13reflecting pool.
- 6:15No, I'm only kidding.
- 6:16>> The pool renovations cost taxpayers more
- 6:19than $16 million.
- 6:21>> Uh, does somebody have those pictures
- 6:23for me?
- 6:23>> The president detailing the
- 6:25improvements.
- 6:26>> We're replacing all of the grass and all
- 6:28of the parks because like the human
- 6:31being, grass has a life. also
- 6:33>> speaking for more than 23 minutes before
- 6:35mentioning tomorrow's election. Trump
- 6:37has held 28 rallies largely in states he
- 6:40won before, but today he gave himself an
- 6:43out if Republicans have a bad night.
- 6:46>> For some reason, the sitting president
- 6:49doesn't win the midterms. But we gave
- 6:51this a very strong shot. Across the
- 6:55country, more than 57 million Americans
- 6:58have already voted, on track to outpace
- 7:00the early vote in the last midterms. In
- 7:03Michigan, one of the nation's most
- 7:05closely watched Senate races pits
- 7:07Republican Mike Rogers against Democrat
- 7:09Abdul Elsied. At the 11th hour, the
- 7:12Democrat Elsa defeated in the primary.
- 7:15Congresswoman Haley Stevens showed up at
- 7:17church with Rogers, declaring she was
- 7:20now endorsing him. Abdul said that I was
- 7:24no longer welcome in his campaign and
- 7:26that I should stay away and he's right
- 7:30and that's why I am endorsing Mike
- 7:33Rogers.
- 7:34>> Elsa calling it a distraction instead
- 7:37focusing on Michigan voters.
- 7:39>> They just want to talk about me and my
- 7:41name and my faith. My name and my faith
- 7:43are not the reason we can't afford our
- 7:45gas.
- 7:46>> My name and my faith are not the reason
- 7:48we can't afford our groceries. not the
- 7:49reason we can't see a doctor. It is
- 7:52their policies that are doing that.
- 7:53>> But Rogers is trying to capitalize on
- 7:55the moment.
- 7:56>> We've got elected officials in this
- 7:58state, Democrats, saying, "I can't vote
- 8:00for him. He's too extreme." My argument
- 8:02is listen to the people who are around
- 8:04him.
- 8:04>> In Ruby Red, Texas, Democrat James
- 8:07Terico taking on Republican Ken Paxton.
- 8:10>> The left in this country keeps getting
- 8:12more and more radical.
- 8:14>> Terrio casting the race as David versus
- 8:17Goliath. David wasn't as big or as
- 8:22strong as Goliath. He didn't have as
- 8:23many weapons, but he had hope. He had
- 8:27faith. And he had a slingshot. The
- 8:31people of Texas are my slingshot.
- 8:35And on November 3rd, those Goliaths
- 8:38aren't going to know what hit them.
- 8:40>> And David, we have some breaking news to
- 8:42report. The Supreme Court has just
- 8:43rejected the Trump administration's push
- 8:45for California to set aside 20,000
- 8:48ballots that the administration claims
- 8:50could have been cast by people who are
- 8:52not citizens. It comes just one day
- 8:54after a federal judge in Alaska rejected
- 8:56the administration's effort to intervene
- 8:58in the Alaska Senate race. David.
- 9:00>> All right, Mary Bruce live at the White
- 9:01House tonight about to make the trip
- 9:03from DC right up to New York. Mary,
- 9:04can't wait to see you for election night
- 9:06right here. Thank you. And one more note
- 9:08tonight showing just how fascinating
- 9:09this night could be tomorrow night. It
- 9:11could be a real nailbiter. The new polls
- 9:13tonight on several key Senate races,
- 9:14many in normally deep red states. And
- 9:17what these polls show. So, let's bring
- 9:18in Rachel Scott. She's already over at
- 9:20the big board getting ready for the big
- 9:22night. And what do these polls show,
- 9:23Rachel?
- 9:24>> Well, David, these polls coming in the
- 9:2511th hour right ahead of election day. I
- 9:27want to take you right to it. Starting
- 9:28in Maine, it is the Democrat Troy
- 9:31Jackson 51% polling ahead of the
- 9:34Republican incumbent Senator Susan
- 9:36Collins who is at 45%. Let's take you to
- 9:38Michigan. Abdul Alaied, the Democrat,
- 9:4053%, several points ahead of the
- 9:43Republican, Mike Rogers, who's trailing
- 9:45behind at 42. Over to Ohio, the former
- 9:49Senator Sherid Brown ahead here, 49% of
- 9:52the incumbent Senator John Houston, a
- 9:54Republican who is at 44. And over to
- 9:56Iowa. I mean, take a look at this. This
- 9:58is a dead heat. The Democrat Josh Turk,
- 10:0148%. The Republican Ashley Henson, 47%.
- 10:05This race is neck andneck. Over to
- 10:07Texas, an unexpected battleground.
- 10:09Democrat James Tyler Rico at 50% pulling
- 10:12ahead right now. The Republican Texas
- 10:14Attorney General Ken Paxton, he's at
- 10:1643%. And then the red state of Texas, it
- 10:19is the Democrat Adam Hamilton sitting at
- 10:2249% heading into election day ahead of
- 10:24the incumbent Roger Marshall who is at
- 10:2745 44%. David, many of these states have
- 10:30not sent a Democrat to the Senate in
- 10:31decades.
- 10:32>> Yeah, a lot of these states are deep red
- 10:33states, at least normally speaking. A
- 10:35very different midterm election on tap
- 10:37here. We should point out that many of
- 10:38these races are within the margin of
- 10:40error. We've seen polling errors before,
- 10:42but what this does show is it going to
- 10:43be a very close night. So, we want
- 10:45everyone to tune in. In the meantime,
- 10:46you're tracking another key number
- 10:48because we know what voters have been
- 10:49telling us about the key issue this
- 10:50election.
- 10:51>> The economy. The economy. It's top of
- 10:53mind. I want to take you to one more
- 10:54number here. The average price for a
- 10:57gallon of gas, $414
- 10:59a gallon. The average price for diesel
- 11:02right now averaging $629
- 11:05a gallon. If these two numbers hold, it
- 11:07will be the highest gas and diesel
- 11:09prices on record ever on election day.
- 11:12David.
- 11:12>> All right, Rachel Scott. This time
- 11:13tomorrow, you have some company. Rick
- 11:14Klein will be at the big board with you,
- 11:15and of course, John, Mary, Lindsay, and
- 11:18Martha will be up here at the desk.
- 11:19Thanks so much for being here at night
- 11:21early. The entire powerhouse political
- 11:22team will be here. And our
- 11:23correspondents from Alaska, Texas,
- 11:25Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Maine,
- 11:27so many other states, too, all across
- 11:29this country. Our coverage begins
- 11:31tomorrow night on World News Tonight and
- 11:33then right at 7 PM Eastern. We come on
- 11:35the air right through the wee hours of
- 11:36the morning this time tomorrow night.
- 11:38Thank you. There is concern over the
- 11:40weather on election day. Storms and
- 11:41already tonight the dramatic images
- 11:43coming in. The flash flood emergency in
- 11:44Florida. Nearly 2 feet of rain in some
- 11:47areas already and then the dramatic
- 11:48water rescues in the southwest tonight.
- 11:51Chief Meteorologist Ginger Z with the
- 11:52forecast and the images already coming
- 11:54in tonight. Tonight, devastating flash
- 11:57floods in Florida
- 11:59and harrowing rescues playing out in the
- 12:01desert southwest as separate systems
- 12:04inundate both sides of the country.
- 12:06Parts of Florida hit with nearly 2 ft of
- 12:08rain in less than 24 hours. Cars
- 12:10submerged, yards and neighborhoods
- 12:12turned to lakes. Flash flood emergencies
- 12:14declared for multiple cities on
- 12:16Florida's east coast. This car bobbing
- 12:19hood first. Damen Ivankovich shot this
- 12:22video as he rescued his grandmother and
- 12:24her cat from their flooded home in
- 12:26Melbourne. All this water threatening to
- 12:28break an all-time state record for the
- 12:30most rain in 24 hours. And in the desert
- 12:33southwest, several months worth of rain
- 12:35falling in a matter of days. Northeast
- 12:38of Phoenix in Lakeside, Arizona, a
- 12:40natural gas line popping and hissing as
- 12:42it washed away with this bridge. Outside
- 12:45Sedona, a terrifying scene playing out
- 12:47in this RV park as a family tries to
- 12:49save one of their dogs, ultimately
- 12:51carrying it on their shoulders. Further
- 12:53downstream, multiple campers flipped,
- 12:55others smashed into trees.
- 12:58Not far from there, multiple helicopter
- 13:00rescues. Sheriff's deputies swimming
- 13:02through rising flood waters to rescue
- 13:04stranded people in Yavapai County. And
- 13:07overnight near Prescuit, firefighters
- 13:09and two residents teaming up to save two
- 13:11people from their vehicle. One rescuer
- 13:13swept a half mile downstream during the
- 13:15effort. Fortunately, they're okay.
- 13:18>> Just incredible pictures tonight. Let's
- 13:19get right to Ginger Z because Jinger, a
- 13:21lot of people are watching this election
- 13:22day weather very closely.
- 13:24>> David, there will unfortunately be rain
- 13:26and storms getting in the way of some
- 13:28voting tomorrow. But let's talk about
- 13:29what's happening tonight. We still have
- 13:31flash flood warnings in Florida from
- 13:32Vero Beach to Port St. Lucy, West Palm,
- 13:34too. That means you don't want to go out
- 13:36and drive if you can avoid at all cost.
- 13:38The next couple of hours, we're going to
- 13:40keep seeing these slowmoving
- 13:41thunderstorms drop an additional three
- 13:43plus inches of rain on places that have
- 13:45had 10 to 20. Not good. But they will
- 13:47dry out tomorrow and certainly going
- 13:49into the weekend. Also tonight, tornado
- 13:52watch from Witchah to Oklahoma City to
- 13:54Witchah Falls. That same front that
- 13:55drops so much rain in the southwest that
- 13:58is moving across the nation now
- 13:59Cleveland to Atlanta on Wednesday. And
- 14:01finally here from the Mid-Atlantic to
- 14:03Northeast where we've had this epic long
- 14:05stretch of dry weather, glorious autumn
- 14:07weather. It will come to an end with
- 14:09rain on Thursday and Friday, David.
- 14:11>> All right, Ginger, thanks so much. We'll
- 14:12see you first thing in the morning on
- 14:13GMA. In the meantime, we turn to the
- 14:14alarming injury on the football field.
- 14:16Detroit Lions star Jack Campbell
- 14:18suffering a neck injury, motionless for
- 14:21more than 10 minutes. What they're now
- 14:23saying about his condition tonight. And
- 14:24here's Will Reev. Tonight, Detroit Lions
- 14:27star linebacker Jack Campbell remains
- 14:29hospitalized more than 24 hours after
- 14:32suffering a neck injury on this tackle
- 14:34against the Minnesota Vikings, leaving
- 14:36him face down and motionless on the
- 14:38turf. Medical staff and the whole Lions
- 14:40team rushing to his side before he was
- 14:43placed on a backboard and carded off the
- 14:45field and taken to the hospital.
- 14:46>> Obviously, you see he's immobilized and
- 14:49all the Lions players over there.
- 14:51There's
- 14:53this is tough. Just minutes after their
- 14:55victory over the Vikings, Lions head
- 14:57coach Dan Campbell addressing the team
- 14:59in the locker room.
- 15:00>> We don't know anything else at this
- 15:02point. So, here's what I want to do,
- 15:03man. We're going to take a knee, man. I
- 15:06want to pray for Jack.
- 15:07>> Star quarterback Jared Goff shaken.
- 15:10>> It just brings you back to reality for a
- 15:11moment of, you know, that he's a husband
- 15:13and a father and it's scary. Late today,
- 15:15the team sharing no details about his
- 15:17injury, but saying Jack Campbell
- 15:19continues to rest and recover at a local
- 15:21hospital and preliminary indications are
- 15:24positive.
- 15:24>> Got to see his parents, talk to his
- 15:27wife. Everybody's in good spirits and
- 15:30it's about the recovery and it's it's a
- 15:32small setback.
- 15:34>> And David, coach Campbell says when he
- 15:35went to visit his player in the
- 15:37hospital, they were running some tests,
- 15:39adding that everyone is pulling for Jack
- 15:41Campbell. David,
- 15:43>> no question about that. will read
- 15:44tonight. Thanks so much. Tonight,
- 15:46outside Boston, Lindseay Clancy back in
- 15:48court two months after the jury
- 15:49deadlocked in her murder trial.
- 15:51Prosecutors said today that they plan to
- 15:53try her again for killing her three
- 15:55young children. They still haven't
- 15:56indicated what the charges will be. The
- 15:58defense pushing for an investigation
- 16:00into the lone hold out juror, sparking a
- 16:02heated exchange with the judge. Clancy
- 16:04could be retrieded as early as March.
- 16:06The judge says he'll decide in a couple
- 16:08of weeks. When we come back on the
- 16:09broadcast tonight, customers at a
- 16:11Chili's suffering chemical burns after
- 16:13drinking their margaritas. The margarita
- 16:15mixup and what was on that glass. Also
- 16:17ahead, the chilling attack in New York
- 16:19City. Police at this hour searching for
- 16:21a suspect who stabbed a young woman in
- 16:22the neck while she was jogging. We'll
- 16:24have more in a moment. And tonight,
- 16:25Martha Stewart apologizing after posting
- 16:28herself in this Halloween costume right
- 16:29here, sparking outrage. And what she's
- 16:32now saying about this tonight in a
- 16:33moment here.
- 16:37No, no,
- 16:39no.
- 16:41Oh,
- 16:44I
- 16:46didn't
- 16:49get my life.
- 17:10Here in New York City tonight, police
- 17:11are searching for a suspect in the
- 17:12attack on a jogger in Bath Beach,
- 17:14Brooklyn. Katie Suarez is on life
- 17:16support tonight. Authorities say she was
- 17:17stabbed in the neck along the Shore
